#medicalapartheid warned us years ago, but we don’t read.🥲
"This is why our elders never wanted to go to the hospital. They feared for their lives"
"Thank You too often we are ignored and treated as if we don’t deserve quality care 🖤🖤🖤"
"Have a law that requires a hospital to allow Doulas and birth assistants who are trained is required!"

A group of disorders that cause red blood cells to become misshapen and break down.
With sickle cell disease, an inherited group of disorders, red blood cells contort into a sickle shape. The cells die early, leaving a shortage of healthy red blood cells (sickle cell anemia), and can block blood flow causing pain (sickle cell crisis).
Infections, pain, and fatigue are symptoms of sickle cell disease.
Treatments include medications, blood transfusions, and rarely a bone-marrow transplant.

"omg universal healthcare would require us to have to wait to receive medical care!"
Yeah as opposed to waiting for when we have the money or waiting for our insurance to work. I love calling every fucking doctors office in my area asking if they take my specific insurance. Also it fucking costs us more anyways. What a brilliant idea.

Letter to the Canadian Government Asking them to Increase Support for Gavi
My name is ______ and I am a ______ in ______. I am writing to you today to ask that you increase funding for Gavi, the organization which provides lifesaving vaccines to children in the Global South. I am very proud of how much Canada has financially supported Gavi, but we can and must do more.
There are over 14 million children worldwide who have not had a single one of the vaccines that they should’ve gotten by their age. That is horrific. Most of these children live in communities that do not have access to the vaccines they need. And many of these children will die due to preventable infections. Many other children will die due to preventable infections as well, because there are so many infectious diseases that the world’s children don’t have vaccine access against. Even if a child has had some vaccines, that does not mean they have had all the vaccines they desperately need. For example, only 45% of newborns got the Hepatitis B vaccine they needed after birth.
It is our responsibility as a member of this world and as a wealthy nation to help our fellow human beings, especially the children whose very survival is at risk. We all have a duty as human beings to make sure our all of our fellow human beings everywhere have everything they need to lead happy, healthy, long and dignified lives.
These children are young, sweet, beautiful human beings who have the rest of their lives in front of them. They deserve to be taken care of, to be given justice and compassion. These children are full of inherent worth and infinite sacredness. They have human rights to life, health, equity, equality, and safety. All children need and deserve to be vaccinated.
And we can do more to help make this happen. We can do more to help make sure more children get more of the vaccines that they need. We need to invest more money into Gavi, so that more vaccines get into the lives of more children, giving them lifelong protection from so many diseases.
Thank you for reading my letter and please take my concerns to heart.
Sincerely,

THIS!! Please do research into privatized healthcare. Yes, you can still be denied certain claims and there are longer waitlists when it’s public, however you STILL have to deal with that when it’s private AND you go into a life time worth of debt, especially if you’re chronically ill or have recurring medical issues, or your job just doesn’t offer health coverage. Or god forbid you need something your plan doesn’t take care of. Or you go to an out of network hospital.
Sometimes I see people from countries with public healthcare systems post videos that are like “This is the reality of socialized medicine. I had to wait in the ER with my sick baby for 4 hours.” “I had to wait 8 months to see a specialist. That’s egregious.” or “They didn’t have a bed for my loved one in mental health treatment.” and it’s like. Come to America babygirl. You can experience all of this and have your insurance deny it and pay thousands and thousands of dollars for it. Like I know healthcare systems in countries with public health can be bad but when I see someone imply they’re bad because the healthcare is universal, I want to jump through the screen and put my elbow on their throat. “The NHS is deeply flawed, therefore we should abolish it and go back to private healthcare. That will definitely make healthcare in this country better!” I am going to Kill You.

UnitedHealth uses AI model with 90% error rate to deny care, lawsuit alleges. For the largest health insurer in the US, AI's error rate is like a feature, not a bug.
UnitedHealthcare, the largest health insurance company in the US, is allegedly using a deeply flawed AI algorithm to override doctors' judgments and wrongfully deny critical health coverage to elderly patients. This has resulted in patients being kicked out of rehabilitation programs and care facilities far too early, forcing them to drain their life savings to obtain needed care that should be covered under their government-funded Medicare Advantage Plan.
EDIT: I'm posting this article on the heels of the murder of Brian Thompson, CEO at United Healthcare, who served in that position for 3 years. Because I knew UHC had a bad reputation, I looked up articles on UHC denial of claims and that search was beyond fruitful. So I wanted to take an opportunity to highlight how immoral their system is and how they are rightfully being sued.
I understand that the there's so much pent up rage towards healthcare insurers. And the comments sections on all posts currently about this murder are sad - but unsurprisingly dark. This is the reality of the state of healthcare in this country.
At the same time, I will never support or cheer on a person that shoots another human in the back, in cold blood.
