What food should we eat to be fit and healthy?
To stay fit and healthy, eat a well-balanced diet that contains a range of nutritional foods.
Here are some important food groups to consider:
Fruits and veggies: Try to incorporate a variety of fruits and vegetables into your diet. They are high in vitamins, minerals, fiber, and antioxidants, all of which benefit general health. Choose colorful foods that fit your taste preferences, such as berries, leafy greens, citrus fruits, cruciferous veggies, and others.
Whole grains: Include whole grains like brown rice, whole wheat bread, oats, quinoa, and whole grain pasta in your meals. Whole grains include important minerals and fiber, which promote digestion and make you feel full.
Lean proteins: Include skinless poultry, fish, eggs, legumes (beans and lentils), tofu, and low-fat dairy items in your diet. Protein is required for tissue development and repair, as well as muscle mass maintenance.
Healthy fats: Avocados, almonds, seeds, olive oil, and fatty fish (such as salmon and sardines) are all good sources of healthful fats. These fats offer energy, promote brain health, and aid in the absorption of fat-soluble vitamins.
Dairy or dairy substitutes: If you must consume dairy products, consider low-fat or fat-free varieties such as milk, yogurt, and cheese. If you're lactose intolerant or follow a plant-based diet, fortified dairy alternatives like soy or almond milk are a good choice.
Hydration: Drink plenty of water throughout the day to stay hydrated. Water is required for several body activities, such as digestion, food absorption, temperature regulation, and joint lubrication. Limit your intake of sugary drinks and make water your primary beverage.
Portion control and attentive eating: Use portion control and be mindful of your eating habits. Take note of your body's hunger and fullness signs. Processed foods, sugary snacks, sugary beverages, and foods high in harmful fats and added sugars should be avoided in excess. Individual nutritional demands may differ depending on factors such as age, gender, exercise level, and underlying health issues. A certified dietician or healthcare expert can provide specialized advice to match your individual nutritional needs.

I saw another post comparing regular sunscreen use (eg reapplying every two hours when outdoors) to sleeping on your back “so your face will be symmetrical” or trying to erase your skin texture with expensive creams. so I feel this bears repeating:
sunscreen is a health tool. and you have to use it as directed for it to work properly.
yes, it also has anti-aging benefits, and beauty influencer types seem to only mention that when they talk about it. but like. it’s FOR preventing skin cancer
and how miraculous is that? that we can- to some degree, albeit not perfectly -prevent a form of cancer? something that’s been a scourge of humanity for centuries, even when we didn’t really understand it? it’s incredible!
your sunscreen doesn’t even have to be whatever $100 French or Korean sunscreen aforesaid influencers are shilling, either. as long as it’s been approved by a reputable regulatory body, it can be the cheapo Banana Boat Sport stuff you get at the drugstore. and you don’t have to go to the insane lengths some people do either, like reapplying regularly indoors (unless you work in a glass box building with windows everywhere, I suppose) or wearing it at night
but by spending a mininal amount of money and expending the tiniest bit of effort, you can SIGNIFICANTLY REDUCE YOUR CANCER RISK. how is that the same as trying to not have pores, or the “preventative Botox” trend?
if not smoking had been touted only for its aesthetic benefits, would we still all be puffing away like it’s 1955 and dismissing nonsmokers as Just Wannabe Lifestyle Influencers?

btw while I’m still being annoying, my favorite example to bring up in the “hygiene products that you can just pick up off the shelf at the store can have KNOWN carcinogens in them” conversation is coal tar. This one’s still crazy to me. It’s used in anti-dandruff products for its “anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial properties" but it’s also LIKE. a hazardous substance... but it can still go in your shampoo bc “aww but it’s only SOME poison, it’s not like, a LOT of poison, so we can still sell it and it’s ok”

What is the best way to stay healthy?
Staying healthy involves many elements of your life, including your physical, mental, and emotional well-being. While there is no one-size-fits-all solution, here are some general guidelines for staying healthy:
A well-balanced diet: includes a range of nutrient-dense foods such as fruits, vegetables, whole grains, lean meats, and healthy fats. Limit your intake of processed foods, sugary snacks, and salt. Keep yourself hydrated by drinking plenty of water.
2. Regular Physical Activity: Exercise on a regular basis to improve cardiovascular fitness, strength, and flexibility. In addition to muscle-strengthening activities, aim for at least 150 minutes of moderate-intensity aerobic exercise or 75 minutes of strenuous exercise per week.
3. Sleep Enough: Aim for 7-9 hours of quality sleep per night. Set a consistent sleep schedule, develop a calming nighttime routine, and make sure your sleeping environment is favorable to peaceful sleep.
4. Stress Management: Chronic stress can be harmful to your health. Practice stress-management techniques such as meditation, deep breathing exercises, yoga, or relaxing hobbies. Find healthy ways to relieve stress and seek help from loved ones or professionals when necessary.
5. Regular Check-ups: Make an appointment with your healthcare provider on a regular basis for preventive screenings, vaccines, and to discuss any health issues. Keep up with prescribed immunizations.
6. Maintain a Healthy Weight: Aim for a healthy weight by balancing calorie consumption and physical activity. This may entail practicing portion management, mindful eating, and frequent exercise.
7. Avoid smoking, excessive alcohol usage, and the use of illegal drugs. Seek aid from healthcare professionals or support organizations if you need it.
8. Mental Health: Take care of your mental health by cultivating positive connections, practicing self-care, making realistic objectives, and seeking professional treatment if you are experiencing mental health concerns.
9 .Hygiene and Preventive Measures: Practice appropriate hygiene practices such as handwashing, correct food handling, and safe sex. Maintain current vaccines and follow prescribed preventive measures during illness outbreaks.
10. Positive Lifestyle Choices: Avoid risky behaviors, prioritize safety (e.g., wearing seatbelts, utilizing protective equipment when participating in physical activities), and adopt positive lifestyle choices that are consistent with your overall well-being.
If you want to Live Healthy you should follow good health habits..

Okay, I know we joke about our Thai BL boys being fragile but like, wet season is Flu Season for a reason, y'all:
I got these articles by searching "why does rain in Thailand make you sick." Obviously it isn't just getting wet, but waterborne diseases and others that are transmittable through contact with contaminated/stagnant water tend to thrive. So to anyone seeking to make a trip or move there (me!), plan accordingly! Be safe, and follow and respect the advice of doctors and locals.

It's scented powder day!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Now that I have more of my favorite perfume, I can use some of my dwindling former supply (look at the difference in levels between these two pictures. 😅) to make violet-scented body powder for springtime! I did this a few years ago and it was LOVELY, so I'm so excited to have some again!

In the quest of becoming more healthy and consuming less processed foods...I've noticed that within the realm of certain fad diets in which the participants, who don't medically need the diet, love to tout the healthiness and the simplicity of their diet by fear mongering us by showing us long lists of ingredients of "un- pronounceable" words from processed foods.
But have you actually stopped to look at how complex some of these keto, paleo, gluten free, dairy free etc ingredient lists and recipes are?! Some of them are longer with twice the amount of ingredients than the traditional method and require more time to process or prep or more gas mileage to find an ingredient that most people still can't pronounce or are very unfamiliar and there for uncomfortable with trying. Not to mention the scientific name of certain plants and herbs are used instead of their common name!
So in the end: Long lists and ingredients- you- can't - pronounce" is not the problem and should NOT be the an indicator if a food item is healthy or not. What needs to happen are for people to expand their knowledge of food, and their ingredients, enzymes and reagents and their purpose in the production of their food as well as alternative names.
Because the ingredients "Sodium Chloride" or species  "Capsicum annuum" and "ascorbic acid" should not scare a person into thinking this food as poison and bad for them. These are just the scientific names for "salt" , "chili pepper" and "vitamin C aka the sour stuff on sour candy". These three could easily be part of a fajita seasoning mix, organic or not.
Stop fear mongering people.
Long ingredient lists and hard to pronounce ingredients DO NOT mean they are unhealthy.
Have you ever seen the list for something like curry or mole? Its long, its got words I cannot pronounce and I have to Google but it does not mean its poison or unhealthy. Its culture, heritage, passed down recipes.
There are already so many eating disorders and food avoidance that are affecting people and their health. Folks don't need more reasons to eliminate the food they have left.
Yeah sometimes there are some ingredients that don't sound like they serve a purpose but that's for you to decide if you want a short or longer shelf life or taste or texture consistency of a food item. Because remember...lots of food don't taste good if you let it sit. Things start to loss texture, flavor, it might spoil within 2 days....preservatives have been used for centuries. Some more traditional than others. But if your beef is with these preservatives like sulfites...then talk about the preservatives and leave things like "protein enzymes" and "tannins" out of it. Because those ingredients could very well be the thing that makes your food item that food. Milk doesn't turn into yogurt/cheese without help or grape juice into wine. They need bacteria and enzymes to exist.
