Noah Czerny propaganda:

"Noah has been dead for 7 years by the time the story starts, and no one knows it. Not even the two friends he literally lives with. They just assume he doesn't eat in front of people and doesn't share classes with them. He was a failed sacrifice to a magic forest and the forest keeps him alive cause his body was left to rot in the forest, and since the forest experiences time differently so does he. He knows a whole bunch of stuff like secrets that haven't been shared and events that haven't happened yet because for him everything happens at once/in a circle. He died as a teenager, so he's kinda stuck in the teenager phase, and he still does dumb stuff like building ramps to drive cars off of. He's described as "less" now that he's dead. It's talked about by people who knew him when he was alive that Noah was cheerful and full of life and joyful and a jokester, but Noah as a ghost is quiet and shy and almost a completely different person because he lost so much of himself when he died.

This next part is confusing, but I'm going to try and explain it as best as possible.

ALSO - MAJOR SPOILERS FOR THE BOOKS BELOW - I'M SERIOUS

Basically, 7 years ago, when Noah died, this other guy Gansey, who is one of the main characters also died. Gansey however, was brought back to life by what he thought was a magic king who was buried underground. Gansey spent the next 7 years searching for this king. He was obsessed and he thought it was his duty and his destiny to find the king. Long story short, it turns out the king was actually dead underground and had been dead for a while.

It wasn't the king who brought Gansey back to life - it was noah.

Noah as a ghost went back in time to the moment he died - aka the moment Gansey died - and sacrificed his spirit so that Gansey could live, whispering to Gansey that he was the dead king and therefore setting Gansey on his path to find the king. Because of this, Noah's ghost technically never existed, and Gansey and the others technically never met him, meaning they don't remember him. NOAH GAVE HIS LIFE SO GANSEY COULD LIVE AND I'M NEVER GONNA BE OVER THAT."

- Most characters are unaware that Noah is a ghost, and when he disappears, they assume that's just a Noah thing

- Noah uses this to his advantage and just fucks off whenever it's uncomfortable or people need him, though sometimes he can't control this

Literally in the end he gets goes back to kickstart the whole story by setting Gansey on the path to Henrietta I love him."

When I first heard the album I remember thinking there aren’t enough sad songs on here and then I entered a depressive spiral and HA I WAS WRONG (Sidenote i hate tumblr formatting)

Also relating to Elvis song (“last train on the Northern line”) always moving through London, experiences anchored in London geography. Also love the ramping up of the music here

Thanks for asking this Mars! It's a bit long, covers a lot of their history. (But it could have been longer!! I've edited it down perfectly of course.)

Gabriel and Felipe have a tricky past of being in a bit of a Will They Won't They situation. They've actually known each other for a while. (They met like 5 years before "current timeline" so thats probably 6 years before they are like actively Dating™)

Gabriel: 20, (not even he should have been at the club age. Wow.) Works at a laundromat, usually at odd hours. Not much confidence in himself, even if he seems put together don't trust him he's only 20 and faking it. I think his narcolepsy is making him fall asleep inconveniently pretty frequently at this era. (<- and that embarrasses him even though he can't help it) Coping badly with that. Felipe: 22. Works for his dad's pool business cleaning pools in the summer, but has the sidegig of being an unemployed sk8r boi. A simple man, please, no need to make relationships complicated! (<-doesn't know he knocked someone up a year ago.)

Felipe is actually the first of the core General Menace friend group that Gabe meets. They never really hung out or spent much time together directly. Felipe would loiter around Gabe's work sometimes and they liked seeing each other! (<- this is when Felipe thinks they could and should have A Thing™ together. Wishful thinking... Unfortunately due to circumstances of Gabriel's narcolepsy and his easy-to-embarrass attitude, they don't hook up, because he fell asleep instead and then was, embarrassed. It's like, fine, no biggie? BUt he's in a weird headspace and he kinda brushes away the thought of potentially hooking up again. He's been goin through a lot lately, maybe this isn't the right time, etc etc. They both think "okay, so that's not happening..." Next time they get close to having A Thing™ together, is at the start "current" canon timeline. General Menace, the band that Gabriel is in has just formed. He's gained a bit of confidence over the years, so he invites Felipe to one of their shows. They can hang out after! ("hang out"? 👀 thinks Felipe) Yeah hang out. With the band. Unfortunately due to circumstances: Gabriel spending all his energy drumming, Sammy getting introduced to Felipe and hitting it off, and Gabe spending a little too much time with his roommate and ex Eve, they both think "this probably isn't happening, again". Sammy is very affectionate, like Felipe is. And Felipe likes things to be simple, no fuss. So since Gabe is not as direct with feelings, and Sammy literally Sat in His Lap. After JUST Meeting. There was an easy answer to where his attention was going tonight. WHOOPS~! Gabe immediately knows he should have been more direct he messed that up didn't he... But doesn't wanna cause drama with the band or his friends, if Sammy and Felipe like each other, hey mannnn that's great! Awesome! 😬 (<- This is his realization that they could have had A Thing™ going. But they don't so he's being brave with his feelings.) (He saw that they had chemistry together and feels like it would be Bad and Selfish of him to bring up his Own desires. But literally if he said something right away, Felipe woulda been right there with him, Sammy wouldn't have gotten so attached, etc. It would've been great! But! Don't tell him that, he didn't knowwww!!!)

On Sammy and Felipe's side of things, Sammy is super eager, clingy and in the happy honeymoon phase, and while Felipe is having lots of fun with this, he also thinks, hey we were just hooking up right, we weren't Dating™ right? so he does still keep his flirty attitude towards Gabriel. WHich is FINe says Sammy, who said that they aren't dating so of course he can still flirt with other people (<- didn't realize it would be within his own friend group)

Gabriel and Felipe hookup a few months after Sammy and Felipe started hooking up. (In a hotel room, with Sammy sleeping in the next bed over shh shh its fine.) It's fun, and Gabriel's finally like, opening up about his wants and desires! (FINALLY.) Felipe's directness and his own openness with wanting Gabe makes Gabe comfortable to get into that discussion. They start out casual too, just like with Sammy, no need to put much pressure on what this relationship is yet, just having fun with it!

They start getting more serious slowly over time, just hanging out more and getting comfier together. Felipe introduces Gabriel to his other friend group, and invites him to that groups Big Annual Camping Get Together, which is probably a pretty big turning point in the relationship. (His friends are surprised: "You're still into Laundromat Boy?!? WHOA!") At the same time, Sammy and Felipe have been weaning off their hookups together, they're on good terms and they really don't want it to get messy with complicated emotions. Sammy's happy for Gabe n Felipe, honest! (No matter how he phrases this he never sounds genuine, sometimes on purpose for comedic value because he knows he's clingy... but, really, he loves his friends, I promise. 🥺)

Over some time, the friend groups dynamic changes a bit. Sammy and Felipe become roommates together, Eve and Steph start dating and are talking about moving in together too. It gets Gabe thinking. "Hey... Why am I still living with my ex, and not my boyfriend now. Whoag. My boyfriend... 💞💖💘" And this starts the era of them like, ACTUALLY Dating, Living Together, etc etc.

It took idk six long years for them to explore some things, figure themselves out and mature, and finally get to this point. But they're finally getting things where they want!!! And I think that's awesome! 👍

Andy Richardson- Doesn’t have a preference on what’s actually on the clothes. He just wants stuff that relatively fits. He doesn’t want anything that’s too tight. He’s worn clothes that were too small and he got even more of those looks. The pity in people’s eyes when they see just how small he is. He prefers clothes that are too big, but will wear anything that isn’t skin tight.

Matthew Duckett- Wants to look tough desperately. He and Albert have matching sk8r boy outfits. I’m talking the long-sleeved striped undershirts with either a plain or graphic tee overshirt. Mismatching socks, and ratty, torn up sneakers. He has a collection of stolen goods from Albert as well, except his is pins, which he wears proudly on his bags. Which he turns into a weapon when the need arises.

this is very specific but i tend to imagine the actor-specific modern characters in the specific era of when their portrayal took place. so, like, akb’s crutchie is in like 2011/2012. and i always picture their fashion (and details like hobbies and technology) to match - it truly feels anachronistic for akb’s crutchie to have anything more modern than anything andrew himself had in any of that behind the scenes content. like, that boy cannot have anything more current than a beat-up iphone 4. matthew duckett’s the only one who gets to be Current.

i definitely see akb crutchie in a lot of knit and crochet, big knitted jumpers under dungarees, jackets borrowed from the others that don’t fit at all (especially, like, letterman style jackets from race and albert). his converse are drawn all over with sharpie and biro by everyone including him along with jack’s lil paintings, the laces are filthy and frayed and don’t match, and the shoes themselves are an inch from death, near as old as he is. he likes fun socks, especially very bright ones, and usually mismatches them because he just does not care - and that includes long socks, though they tend to frustrate him because they never stay up on his legs. catch him leaning against his crutch and making frustrated noises as he wrenches his socks back up, though at a point he’ll just let them be half-scrunched down his shins.

zach crutchie has never worn trousers in his life and will not start. it’s shorts all the way, baby. he also really likes the practicality of skirts. anything but trousers is just way easier to get dressed in without the motility of his leg, and more fun to make outfits out of. he loves fun button-down shirts. he likes beanies, and he has unquestionably worn a flower crown (it was the style at the time!). he also totally tries to get fun shoes to make up for the lack of platforms - although, if he was in a wheelchair, he would be able to wear platforms. that is a big chunk of his desire to get a wheelchair. mobility? sure, cool, whatever, but getting to have more fun with how he dresses? let’s go.

andy crutchie’s clothes reflect insecurity. he dresses very soft and non-threatening, and very plainly, like he’s trying to blend in. collared shirts under oversized jumpers to try and bulk him up a bit, always trousers - with a belt around the waist cinched in tight to keep them in place, because he wants them big but then they never fit, and plenty of layers. he tends to wear shoes without laces because having to manually lift his paralysed leg to tie his laces frustrates him, so he likes imitations of those slip-on vans. he also likes hats, beanies pulled low on his head that he can sort of hide in, and they help keep him warm - he’s always cold. he likes borrowing people’s jackets.

matthew crutchie loves graphics. he has so many stupid t-shirts he got from thrift stores, as do race and jack - they go hunting for them together, and compete to see who can find the dumbest ones, with a strict rule that whoever sees the shirt first has dibs on buying it (but they then give the shirts to each other anyway, if it’s something they know one of the others would love. race has a “best grandma ever” shirt that crutchie gave him that he thinks is hilarious). he loves pins and embroidery and patches, anything to customise stuff as his, especially since it’s all secondhand and he makes it last as long as it physically can. that being said, he still rarely gets around to fixing stuff (his dungarees in uksies are broken) so most of his clothes and shoes have holes in them or the sole coming away or other little “quirks”. he always brings a hat out with him but it usually ends up shoved in one of his pockets, and he’s the type to triple-knot his laces and then stub them so they just always stay tied and he can toe his shoes on and off.

also, bonus: owen stringer crutchie is the one who’s especially desperate to look tough. he’s the definition of the skater boy style, lots of layers, bulking himself up. baggy trousers that are so long he has to cuff them rather than it just being a stylistic choice. lots of hoodies, all of which are miles too big, many of which are stolen from other boys (especially albert). the edges of his sleeves are always frayed, he’s cut thumb holes in some sleeves. and he wears a lot of jewellery, cheap rings and necklaces, in another imitation of tough guy styles.

You know, I have to reflect on this because I also preform some of these songs for money but there is a distinct catch 22 a man puts himself in when he decides to cover an internalized misogyny anthem (MizBiz, Sk8r Boi, Girlfriend, You Belong With Me, Jolene when Beyonce sings it, etc). Like obviously those songs are not for men they're about women being in their feelings about their competition over men with other women. The men are incidental. But the songs do occasionally fuck (at least Misery Business does and there's ones that fuck that I didn't list) and songs fucking invites cover artists. And frankly I'd rather men take inspiration from female artists than not. But it's difficult to pull off because he could go the MGK/For All Those Sleeping route where he just swaps the pronouns and a couple of other gender markers and one would think it would take the misogyny out (as long as you don't say the word whore, Colson) because two guys fighting over pussy reads different than two girls fighting over dick. You can say any damn thing you want about that guy and unless you're calling him fruity there's not really a gendered thing going on there. But telling a girl she's wrong about who she's dating and she should be with you instead reads different also, as exemplified when For All Those Sleeping changed the lyrics to "You Belong To Me" instead of "You Belong With Me" during the bridge of their you belong with me cover. Now you could just not change the lyrics and fight with a woman over dick for the duration of the song, but frankly, those songs are "not like other girls" songs by their nature and they degrade the other woman for being feminine, which when you're a man saying you're better because she's girly, no matter now much you're chasing dick, still, uh, kinda sounds like you're saying men are better than women.

Therefore, I think the only possible way to cover one of these songs as a man is to, if possible, change the pronouns such that you are fighting with a guy over another guy. A gay flavor to the love triangle in these songs both beats the misogyny allegations and adds in a layer of internalized homophobia which maintains the flavor of the original. Not always possible, but objectively correct.

The theatricality of Olivia Rodrigo's music sometimes works against her, but put it in a song that isn't a slow ballad and you can generate some real sparks. And maybe performativity is underrated in 2023: it's been part of punk's DNA since its inception, just as it's part of the DNA of every kind of popular music. Rodrigo snarls and chews the scenery (klaxon guitars and a too-polite drum machine, in this case), she plops a fuck into the middle of the chorus. Everything is a performance and listening to "love is embarrassing" I'm never quite able to forget that, but I'm equally unable to knock the song for it. Like yes, it takes a particular kind of theater-kid energy to sing "emBARassing" that way, but also? I've mellowed on theater kids from the days when I used to regularly see them at house parties and karaoke bars. "love is embarrassing" is charming and direct and packed with its share of hooks - and short enough that its particular kind of energy doesn't risk getting old. And that dramatic instinct leads Rodrigo to one of the year's greatest and simplest truths: even if you're not having your heart broken, love is embarrassing. Love means vulnerability and vulnerability is extremely cringe. And if I'm being honest, there's a thinner line between the theater and the concert venue than a lot of musicians - and I - might like to admit.

I think this is why so many women my age – Rodrigolds, if you will – are reliving vicariously through SOUR and GUTS. “love is embarrassing” scrupulously omits identifiers like “he was a punk” and “she did ballet,” (or “she’s cheer captain and I’m on the bleachers”) instead focusing on how runaway infatuation feels and how stinging the fresh slap of its dissipation feels. And she casts herself as the fool, a fool of her own design – that’s a universal experience, we are all the fool at least once. In this way, it’s impossible to dispute the veracity of her lyrics. In this way, she’s not theatrical at all.

happy to share my thoughts on Denki Kaminari(the loml)!!! I just don't tag my bnha stuff as anything other than bnha, because then they will never <3 find me <3 hah <3

anyways. Denki Kaminari:

Pop punk all the way. Sk8r boi see you later boy all the way. He's got a sense of style that's unrivaled. Ripped jeans, band tees, necklaces, earrings, Paramore, Fall Out Boy, Avril Lavigne, Panic! At the Disco. He wears converse and plays his music on the highest possible setting through his earbuds. He's black and white and pink and yellow, pastel blue and neon green, and of course, bright, bright, bright yellow.

Skateboards are the only thing he's coordinated with. Whenever he's got free time on weekends, he heads to the park near his house and skateboards. He's actually got a ton of non-school friends who go to the skate park regularly and they all just generally have a great time. If he wasn't going to be a pro-hero, he'd be a pro-skateboarder instead. His phone is full of shaky videos of him and his skater friends doing tricks. In the background, there's always half-ecstatic shrieking whenever one of them lands a trick.

He chews bubblegum and sticks it to the bottom of desks. Also, if a class doesn't have assigned seating, he's the kid who constantly moves around and disrupts the self-assigned seating of everyone else in the class. People get so annoyed about it, but Kaminari is never going to change.

The lightning bolt in his hair is natural. It just matches his entire aesthetic perfectly.

Super high pain tolerance naturally. Once, when Mina demanded that all her friends try that period pain simulator(because Mina's like that), Kaminari made it all the way to the second-worst pain level before having to stop. Bakugo, however, was out in two levels.

It gets worse after a ton of quirk usage. All that zapping really frazzles his nerves to the point where someone could punch him in the arm and he wouldn't feel it. It's a dangerous side effect to have brought on in battle, but it's just something he's gotta deal with.

That being said, he could get shot and not notice until after the battle's over and the adrenaline starts to wear off. He could keep a hand pressed over the wound because he still doesn't feel it. He could slowly start to feel it again, get woozy from pain and blood loss, and stagger forwards, only to collapse and have his friends crowd around him worriedly. Just a thought.

ADHD, Dyslexia, and Dysgraphia. Diagnosed. However, he thinks a pro-hero should be able to pass without accommodations. So my dude is struggling in class, and absolutely sucking, because of his pride and his internalized idea that he is somehow less diligent, less smart, and less worthy of his place in the class if he actually gets help with his diagnosed medical issues.

His parents really trust him to know how to take care of himself. They're good people, and they pretty much let him deal with his own life. They're always there if he needs them, but he's so determined to not need them, that he simply won't go to them. He's independent enough, the sixteen year old said to himself, who needs parents? Gotta have that "self-reliant to a fault" complex that all the 1-A kids have, right? Why get an adult if you can get trauma and pain and do it yourself!

He silently hates short-circuiting. That's it. He loathes it. He hates how he reacts. He hates how much of an idiot he seems. He hates how he can't think. It's like the numbness from earlier takes over his whole brain. It's nasty, and he hates it. But he laughs it off. Humor is an excellent coping mechanism, because if he can't laugh, he'll cry, and then everyone will know he's got feelings about it deep down, and nope! Pro-heroes can't have those! He's just gotta get better and stop short-circuiting.

Aizawa loves the kid. Aizawa loves all his kids. But Aizawa really appreciates what Kaminari can do, and appreciates the vibe he brings. Especially his positivity. Reminds Aizawa of Present Mic. The world definitely needs more Present Mics in it. Bubbly, confident, on-fire people, willing to speak their minds and brighten the lives of others? Aizawa loves to see it.

omg okok so the gist of the taening fic (greenland is the title lOL) is that hyuka is from a long line of mushers (sledding dog sport) and he's a late bloomer because unlike his siblings, he grew up in hawaii, so he didn't really have time to adjust to the cold weather + has a soft spot for dogs like this mfer feels bad for keeping them on a leash LMAO. taehyun's family are polar explorers so he's used to traveling back and forth between the city and the arctic. absolutely hates it. meets hyuka as a kid and helps out the huening family take care of their huskies cos he's bored and his parents are busy doing science stuff. it's a slow burn f2l tale with soft bean hyuka who cries when taehyun yells at the dogs and taehyun having to remind hyuka that it's literally their job to be sled dogs LOL.
