Okay so I'm probably fixating TOO much on a children's show from 2012, but I'm coming on here to defend Donald and Douglas because the hate towards them is WILD and overstated.
So, let me start by saying that I totally agree that both of them had issues, specifically with responsibility and ego. However, I would like to bring up a theory I have as to why they're both like that. Which, totally wouldn't excuse their behavior if they truly WERE abusive, but they weren't.
In short, based off the fact that they BOTH are egotistic and more possessive of money, I think it makes sense that they weren't raised as rich as Adam, Bree, and Chase. It would make sense that they grew up with little money. Perhaps their parents were very possessive of what they had, or even were irresponsible with it. Now, I'm not saying that that should be an excuse for how they value money. However, it makes sense.
I'll start with Donald, because he's the one I see the most unwarranted hate for. First of all, because it's a Disney show, I think a lot of his personality was sculpted purely for the comedic aspect. I'm only about halfway through on my re watch, but other than him just not always being conscious of how to BE a dad, I see no actual abuse from him. The most common criticism I see from him is that he locked Adam, Bree, and Chase away in the basement for years, not even celebrating their birthdays. But you have to remember that in no way was Donald expecting to be, or even WANTING to be a dad so young. He was 38 in season 1, which puts him at, like, 20, when he took Adam Bree and Chase (roughly lol). He was not in any way expecting to be a father of three kids so young, ESPECIALLY in presumably the first few years of Davenport Industries existing. He was (presumably) single, now having to carry the weight of a giant company on his own that was intended for him AND his brother to carry, and on TOP of that having to keep his guard up on his own brother.
Let's actually talk about that for a minute, because that's over looked too. Judging by the fact that they opened a company together, we can assume that they must've been VERY close growing up, and up until Douglas betrayed him. Having your own brother, whom you were very close with and trusted so deeply do something like that would be heartbreaking, and also terrifying, knowing what Douglas wanted to do and coming to the realization that he was evil. And NOW having to protect three babies from a deranged maniac? That's a lot.
Even though Douglas was presumed dead early on, I can imagine Donald had major trust issues, which is why he kept them in the basement. He knows Douglas is smart, and crafty, and could've had people working with him to take back the kids that could attack at any time. The circumstances in which they grew up SUCK, but they were in no was abusive or malicious. Donald clearly loved and loves his kids, and did what a single dad in his 20's at the time believed was right to protect them from danger or evil. Plus, as another person pointed out, he likely had to hide them asap from the government after Douglas went awol.
I'm not saying his arrogant tendencies are okay, but the kids never seem to care or think he's abusive or doesn't love them from that. They clearly hold little resentment towards him, and it's shown many times how much they care about and love him, and how much he feels the same for them (and LEO!! He treated him like a mentee and shaped him into who he became).
If ANYTHING, Douglas was a worse father, and what he did and planned to do got brushed off. But I still love him and want to defend him to the best of my ability. I'll just do a part two since this is so long.
Anyway, in short, y'all villainize Donald too much and ignore that half the things you're calling him out for were not things he seriously meant/had malicious intentions for. It's a Disney show y'all not a law show😭

Unstoppable villain, meet immovable agent of friendship!
I was wondering in what circumstances Charlie would just OFFER her soul to Al.
And he would short circuit as all his manipulation plans become unnecessary.
Cause Charlie cares about her friends and if they need help she won’t hesitate.

"hur hur gabe wasn't as abusive as he was in the books" people can all shut up. percy's jaw TREMBLED when ares yelled at him, which had nothing at all to do with his god status - percy backtalks gods just fine. he had trauma response to ares yelling. ares didn't so much as lift a finger. that goes to speak volumes about what percy was experiencing at home

Listen, you should never film strangers in public without their consent, but I swear there need to be fines or something for people who do that shit in some spaces. For example: I had to go to the ER last night, and some jerk filmed a woman who just came in and was clearly having an asthma attack. She immediately got to go back, and he was unhappy about that. Believe me, I get that it sucks having to wait when you're in pain, but you don't get to pick who deserves care when. The medical system in the US is a nightmare, and the ER could be the worst moment of someone's life. No one deserves to be recorded because some jack ass believes someone doesn't look like they need care.
This is fine to reblog. People who film strangers should be shamed if nothing else.

Thinking again about how Suzanne esentially subverted the "beloved famous man that is actually a horrible person in real life" with Finnick, who is the complete opposite of that.
Finnick has this whole image costructed around him by the people that abused him for years: the Capitol's darling, their golden boy, the sex symbol of Panem, the man that has countless lovers but leaves them constantly and doesn't look back etc. And you would expect, initially, to meet a man that retains at least a part of that persona in his day to day life. But Finnick doesn't, not even one bit.
You see instead a man that is deeply in love and completely devoted to the one woman he quite literally adores, a man that protects Mags, his old mentor and his mother figure, as much as he can, a man that wouldn't leave Johanna behind, a man that gathers whatever strenght he has left to speak publicly about the abuse inflicted upon him at the government's hands; the opposite of what the Capitol's media and reputation made him out to be.

None of our hands are clean

#poorly drawn mdzs#mdzs#jin guangshan#mianmian#The secret meaning behind one of the jin members scuttling off is:#I couldn't make three people work out in the remaining panels and per my rule of '3 attempts and take a different approach' he had to go.#Sometimes there are meaningful reasons why something happens in the background. And sometimes it is like this.#Let's just say he saw what was about to happen and got out of there before mianmian started throwing hands.#Okay no more delay. The sheer boldness to call WWX a killer in a room full of people who wear their war body count as a badge...#It's about hypocrisy yes - but it is also about how the narrative shifts on the same action depending on the frame.#Because at the end of the day...the blood on our hands is still blood on our hands.#Both the deaths on the battlefield and the deaths of the Jin's abusing the Wen remnants are still deaths caused by another.#They are also deaths that - depending who holds the frame - are noble acts to protect others.#But it isn't supposed to be about who was right and who was wrong.#It is about the need to be seen as the victim to avoid culpability.#Because if you aren't responsible you don't have to be held accountable. You don't have to grow or change.#If someone takes all the blame then there is no need to reflect on your own faults.#We have to protect our fragile ego from the mirror lest it shatter and we have to remake it anew.#Horrifically enough...even if WWX spared the Jin guards or even never ran into Wen Qing#He wouldn't have been able to escape being the scapegoat. He downfall was set into motion a long time ago.#My goodness...What a deliciously tragic story Wei Wuxian's first life was.

human.
early access + nsfw on patreon
more backstory that i wrote up for patreon heh:
Simon and Tommy had a complicated relationship as brothers.
At a young age, Simon basically wrote himself off as a lost cause, and did the best he could to make sure at least Tommy had a chance to be a functioning human being. After all, Tommy was the gentler brother, the dreamer, the one who looked like their mother (who'd walked out on them years ago to escape their father). But Tommy got bitter, got sick of the one always being protected, being babied. He lost respect for Simon, for the way he wouldn't fight back, and in a twisted way, grew closer to his father as a way to learn how to be powerful, strong. It backfired, and Tommy got wrapped up in some bad business.
Simon's kid brother died while he was deployed. He got the news in the letter, and it broke him in a big way. In the story timeline, it was years and years ago but it still hurts like hell whenever Simon thinks about him.

Amity Park hates the Justice League but loves Red Hood and sometimes other heroes
A/n: I got this random idea so here it is. Oh, and this is good reveal AU ok?
-------
Due to the Justice League mocking them and ignoring their villain problems that were also publicly interdimensional problems, everyone hates the JL. It got worst with the GIW coming in, who blatantly went against the meta-laws (which included aliens, demons and so much more that weren't human from the beginning). They started to think the Justice League supported them.
In the Infinite Realms, however, there's a revenant that many adored and others respected. He did not hold back against criminals. Criminals that would rape, kill, traffic, sell drugs, and more to people. He especially didn't like when they brought kids into this. He'd avenge people the way they should've been: by promising that their abuser/killer/whatever wouldn't be able to do it again. And in the place they lived in, the only way for that to be possible was by major injury, heavy social outcasting, and/or death. Most prefer the 3rd.
And after how long the Amitians dealt with the attacks which eventually came to a slow once or twice a week type thing, they started opening their minds to the idea of coexistence. Well, further than they had. So when people started to cross over and start making their small haunts in their side of the veil, the Amitian's began to become aware of the popular hero Red Hood. He was part of the undead community, which was trustworthy in everyone's books.
So Amity Park started making merch. Most of it was for Team Phantom, but there was plenty for Red Hood as well. There were other heroes on the side, like for Superboy 1 (who they renamed to Supernova due to their hatred for Superman for 2 reasons, the obvious and that he rejected a mirror-born), and Raven (the half demon).
And with this coexistence, Team Phantom had noticed the positive feedback about killing in the name of vengeance. So they went on the offensive, and after a good year of that, the GIW lost funding for producing no results and just taking up resources. The acts were still there, but nobody enacted them in Amity, and nobody actually knew or believed them outside of the haunted city.
Then the Justice League find out about the hero group there due to tracking merchandise after they started to sell outside of the city. Superman was the guy everyone liked, so he was sent over. He immediately got thrown out and was now questioning who the heck Supernova was and when he rejected him.
Flash? Outcast. Everyone ignored and walked away from him. they had the police, who never did anything or even had to anymore, kick him out.
Green Lanter? Oh the poor guy. He had his ring taken away and thrown out of the city somehow. It took hours to find it.
Wonder Woman, they had to be ok with her. Not at first, but once Phantom had a talk with her and people learned that they were cousins through Clockwork (Kronos) and Pandora, they were ok. ish. Tolerated was the best word and she got the info back to the league.
The batfamily took a trip there, dragging Red Hood along somehow. And right when Red Hood was noticed, a crowd began to form as everyone practically worshipped him. There were many victims he had avenged and an Ancient (Lady Gotham) came and gave him the gifts she couldn't without scaring the guy.
At one point, the poor guy even cried.

I think Alfred needs his own prompt 👻(dp x dc)
Alfred had died.
(It was a bit of a waste of time— he'd been scheduled to get the boys to and from their suit fitting at this time. Now here he was; languishing. Murdered. Sulking, even.)
(How frivolous.)
As a busy man with children (an adult child) to care for, a house to maintain, and a budget to supervise, Alfred's main goal was to return to Earth, obviously. If he left Master Bruce in charge of the dusting, the man would absolutely let the unused parts of the house go into disrepair. Too impatient, his ex-ward was.
The only problem was that in this green, nebulous, and gravity-free afterlife, there seemed to be only one way out— navigating through the individual worlds that the denizens of this world have molded around themselves, until he finds a being willing to grant his wish to return.
Alfred sighed, checked for the pistol at his hip and the rifle on his back, and marched straight upwards. Or. Well. Downwards. Actually... Never mind.

I feel like many people have a fundamental misconception of what unreliable narrator means. It's simply a narrative vehicle not a character flaw or a sign that the character is a bad person. There are also many different types of unreliable narrators in fiction. Being an unreliable narrator doesn't necessarily mean that the character is 'wrong', it definitely doesn't mean that they're wrong about everything even if some aspects in their story are inaccurate, and only some unreliable narrators actively and consciously lie. Stories that have unreliable narrators also tend to deal with perception and memory and they often don't even have one objective truth, just different versions. It reflects real life where we know human memory is highly unreliable and vague and people can interpret same events very differently

Brad Pitt's new movie released it's first poster!!!!Wow! So cool!!! Anyway reminder that Brad Pitt physically assaulted Angelina Jolie and his kids on a plane (deliberately so that they had nowhere to run) he choked multiple of his children when they tried to defend their mother and spent the next few hours emptying the planes bottles of beer and red wine on their fucking heads. His kids are literally filing to have his last name dropped before they even turn 18.
Also reminder that Brad Pitt, who both stars in and is producing the film, is banking on YOU as a motorsport fan to be a built-in audience for this project. Don't do it. Seeing a cameo of the drivers for a few seconds is not worth the moral forfeit of giving this literal monster your money and support.
