OC × Canon Week Writing Drabble

I have no idea if I'm going to do anything else for this event. However I figured I already had something drafted related to the topic, so I might as well post it!

Featured Pairing: Wayward Hamilton Davis (OC) × Wilson Percival Higgsbury (Don't Starve)

Rating: PG13 (Minor mentions of violence and the possibility of death, minor depictions of discomfort due to pain, mentions suggestive content most of which occured offscreen)

Tropes: Strangers to Frienemies to Lovers, Age Difference (Way is 28 years old and Wilson's believed to be in his 40's by the fandom), Only One Bed (if you squint)

Background: Wayward and Wilson have been surviving in the Constant together (since day 1 for Way and day 3 for Wilson). They've been working together for months by this point. Their story begins during the events of the Don't Starve game, and eventually continue on into the story of Don't Starve Together. Though that's not super relevant for this oneshot.

Warm morning light slipped through the entrance of the tent, settling on Wayward's face and rousing him from his slumber. As he moved to sit in an upright position, something stirred beside him. Way glanced over to see the sleeping form of his companion turning over in the makeshift bed, snuggling back down once set in a more comfortable position. Way let out a quiet chuckle, carefully slipping away from Wilson's side out into the cold air, away from the warmth his body and the blanket had provided. Way used the light that seeped in to navigate in the tiny space and locate his clothes, dressing once he found each garment in turn. Only when he was fully dressed did he dare leave the safety of the tent. 

The sun shone brightly above his head, the day welcoming him as he made his way towards the fire-pit. The last embers of the night's fire still sparked in the charred remains of the logs and pine cones nestled within the stones. The flames had loyally kept themselves lit through the darkness, even while nobody stood to guard them. It would seem Wayward and Wilson had gotten lucky last night, in more ways than one. A proud smile spread across Way's face as he recalled the main event of the evening. The time they had spent together seemed to have put the young man back into a good mindset, and left him feeling more refreshed than he had since before entering The Constant.

While still under the influence of his euphoria, Way decided to be generous this morning and make something to eat for both himself and Wilson. He made his way over to the ice box which sat only a few more feet away, digging through its contents to find the ingredients for the meal. They were beginning to run low on their food store; today the two of them would have to go out and scavenge for more. Way made a mental note to run the plan by Wilson once he awoke. With items in hand, Way walked over to the crock pot, placing his supply inside. He replaced the lid on top, bending down to set a fire beneath the metal container in the leftover kindling from the afternoon prior. With everything set, the only thing left to do was wait. Shouldn't be too long, he told himself, lifting his arms into the air for a stretch. 

Wayward leaned back and forth on his heels in a motion of boredom, glancing around the campsite in search of something to hold his attention. He grinned with excitement as he noticed the mouth of the tent being pulled back. A moment later Wilson came limping out, hunched over slightly as he made his way to stand beside Way. He turned his head to look at the younger man, a tired smile tugging at the corners of his lips. A warm expression was set on his face, though his eyes revealed him to be suffering some discomfort. This only made Wayward grin more as he watched his partner hobble over to a log by the fire-pit and seat himself upon it awkwardly. His behind hung off the edge partially and legs spread to help keep balance. A small hiss escaped his lips as he adjusted himself to be seated more comfortably. Way tried to hold himself back from teasing Wilson for his posture, taking a few paces towards him with arms folded over his chest. He paused a moment to take in the features of his partner, his composure quickly lost. 

“Sleep well, Wilson?” He asked, amusement laced in his tone.“You seem to be walking a bit crooked this morning. Wonder why that is?”

A light blush spread across the older man's face. “You know very well why that is,” he mumbled. 

“Do I?” Way wondered, tapping a finger against his chin. He had to hold back the chuckle that threatened to rise from his throat; though he couldn't resist the urge to adjust his groin so that he was more comfortable. Wilson watched, becoming more flustered in the process. Way burst out laughing. 

“Hush!” Wilson snapped, turning his face away with embarrassment. “You're doing that on purpose, aren’t you!?”

“Aw, why are you looking away, Wilson? You could hardly resist last night,” Way teased. “If it weren't for you I don't think I'd have to adjust myself so much. So honestly this is your fault.”

“I- well...nothing would have happened if you hadn't ki..kissed me the way you did….” Wilson trailed off, failing to properly defend himself. He covered his face with his hands, letting out a soft groan. Wayward shook his head, grinning as he turned to scoop up the meatballs he had been cooking with a ladle, putting them in a set of bowls. He carried each over with him to the log, taking a seat. He gave Wilson a nudge to get his attention, handing him his share once he finally lowered his hands from his face. Wilson avoided Way's gaze as he ate his breakfast, head lowered, and brow furrowed. The man looked to be in deep thought, and Way wondered if he was thinking over the night's events, or about something else entirely. Curious, he decided to inspect. 

“Wilsooon,” he whined. “What's got your thoughts so focused, hm?” 

Wilson shot Way a slight glance before averting his gaze once more. 

“Stuff.” He answered curtly, taking another bite from from his meal. “Personal things.” 

“Such as...?”

Wilson rolled his eyes. “The situation we're in. What the future may hold….Us.”

Us, Wayward's mind echoed. He always enjoyed the sound of that. But what about them was Wilson thinking about? Their relationship? Was this even considered a relationship now? They had only slept together once after all, not confessed feelings or anything of the sort. Way felt his cheeks warm at the thought. He turned his head away, not wanting the other to catch a glimpse of his red, flustered face. Perhaps it was time he started thinking more about the way he saw Wilson. He was certainly more than a friend at this point. They had been through a lot together since Way had entered The Constant. Yet the status of their relationship seemed shaky. At times, Wilson could hardly stand Way. Others, he awkwardly fumbled his way into getting closer to him. Maybe I should ask? Wayward thought, peeking at the other man out of the corner of his eye. Seeing the expression on Wilson's face, however, turned him off to the idea. Instead, when the moment was right, Way scooted himself closer on the log. Wilson placed his bowl on the ground, giving his attention, reluctantly, to the younger man. His face for a few moments was unreadable, as Wayward turned to meet his gaze fully. He looks uncomfortable, Way noticed, wondering if it was because of the awkward silence that'd settled between them, or the ache that Wilson clearly felt in his rear. After a few more moments of unspoken words, Wilson turned away again, if only long enough to finish eating. Wayward waited and watched as Wilson consumed the last of his meatballs before deciding finally to pester him.

“So,” he started, “I couldn't help but notice how uncomfortable you are.” 

“Marvelous observation as always, author,” Wilson deadpanned back. 

Wayward grinned, mischief dancing in his tone as he quipped; “I guess you could say I'm more of a pain in your ass than usual.”

Wilson flinched at the vulgar remark. Then he hid his face away behind his trembling, flustered hands again. Wayward in turn leaned himself up against Wilson's shoulder. He nudged a little, trying to gain some response from the other man. Instead, all he got was tense silence. Way leaned harder against Wilson's shoulder, resting the side of his head against his. After another moment he lifted his head slightly, lips hovering close to Wilson's ear.

“If you want, I could kiss it better,” he offered seductively, voice hardly above a whisper. This gained an immediate reaction from the other man. Wilson whipped his head around to meet Wayward's lustful gaze. The two locked eyes for a moment, faces drawing nearer until meeting at long last with lips pressing tenderly again one another's. The two pulled each other into a passionate embrace as they kissed, only parting when the need for air became overwhelming. A bead of saliva hung between them as they pulled back. Way felt Wilson's hot breath against his face as he panted softly, making him want to pull the other in for another round. Wilson slowly lowered his gaze from the young man's face, showing that he had other thoughts in mind. Way flashed a playful smirk, bringing a hand up to rest on Wilson's cheek. Wilson's eyes returned to meet Wayward's once more. As the pair leaned in to begin another hot make out session, a sharp howl pierced through the air. Their heads whipped in the direction of the sound simultaneously. 

“Hounds.” Wilson gritted his teeth as he jumped to his feet. 

“Of-fucking-course,” Way growled, following his partner into the tent to fetch their weapons. “Just when things were about to get good.”

“I'll try and make it up to you later…” Wilson promised, handing Way an axe as he picked up his spear. “If we survive. The hounds sound as if they're heading right for our base.”

“We need to lead them away.”

“There may not be any time."

“Even just a few feet would suffice,” Wayward assured. “Enough to keep them from wrecking the place. Once we've got the hound's attention we can flee somewhere further off. Then we'll take them down.”

“It sounds risky,” Wilson fretted with furrowed brows. Then, with a frustrated groan, his expression shifted to one of determination. “Alright, let's give it a try–”

“And try not to get killed in the process,” Wayward finished for him.

what is the theory that ivan manipulated the event where till and mizi met the wagyein?

It's not a theory, actually! It's confirmed that Ivan orchestrated the whole event. The true reason as to why however is still unknown. The information provides more context to this scene, though:

During the earlier times of ALNST the most rational explanation for this scene was that Till ran after a flower crown (presumably Mizi's) and Ivan followed him in out of curiosity. Now we know that Ivan was conveniently just standing there because he was waiting.

Side note, I find it heartbreaking (and maybe a little funny, sorry) that Till most likely didn't notice Ivan in this scene. That's just like him, isn't it. Always too busy running after Mizi while Ivan trails behind, an ever-present shadow.

I'm not sure how Ivan manipulated the circumstances for both of them to end up there, but it is confirmed that everything was intentional. What strikes me most is how they describe this particular scene:

I can't copy down what they said word-for-word (Patreon info), but they described Ivan watching "creepily" as Till and Mizi are faced with danger. We know that Ivan was familiar with the Cerberus wagyein beforehand, enough to touch its teeth and even to rest himself inside its maw. To Ivan, the wagyein is not dangerous, but to Till and Mizi, it could be. Ivan prepared the wagyein, led them there, and watched "creepily" from afar as Till fell on his knees, seemingly injured.

The closest I can get to making sense of Ivan's "scheme" is that he wanted to see how other children would react in a dangerous situation. Ivan's always been an observer, after all, and he's learned to survive by copying the more "normal" behaviors of his peers. This situation occured when Ivan was still young and had not yet developed his more charming mask, so perhaps he staged this encounter to study a situational response, to learn and mimic the emotion of fear. And what better subjects for the experiment than two of the most expressive and reactive humans of their batch? It helps that he was already fixated on Till beforehand, too. I think Ivan became irreversibly obssessed after this incident, especially since it's framed as a turning point in Ivan's life, comparing Till to the stars.

This is just my attempt at an interpretation, though. It could very well be for another reason. He most likely chose Till and Mizi specifically for personal reasons, not just for reaction. I'm still not sure on the purpose behind the whole thing.

The team wanted to capture Ivan's "dark emotions" through the shot of his stalking, which could relate to his more sinister intentions. His gaze can be read in a few different ways, though. Curiosity, interest, fear, etc. Maybe that's why they decided to redraw the shot in ROUND 6.

I think this better sells the feeling they were trying to convey.

(Sorry I took so long to answer this I wanted to finish a lil comic I’ve been working on that basically contains what would have been the first meeting of madara and gai in the fic but that is going to take a fair bit longer so I hope you don’t mind me just answering with some doodles)

first up the dynamic between the founders, gai and kakashi is as follows:

The black haired guy at the top middle is kakashi he actually is in disguise most of the story because he’s trying to be really careful and not alter the timeline too much.

This causes its own set of problems when gai after being told by kakashi to stay put and not interact with anyone (gai was not meant to join kakashi in the past and they weren’t meant to go back so far so kakashi is a bit disoriented) mistakes madara for his eternal rival and interferes with an ambush to help him escape unscathed. Madara witnesses here the 6th gate for the first time and decides to kidnap gai and keep him as a prisoner until he’s figured out what the heck gai did to spontaneously get stronger.

Gai tries to figure out the lest future changey way of escaping and finding the real kakashi while madara tries to figure out gais deal generally. Eventually gai agrees to spar with madara on the condition that madara sends people to search for his rival.

Their sparing matches are actually really interesting! Gai is exceptional at countering the sharingan but madara is a far more experienced fighter both of them are a fan of a good fight so they actually end up growing closer through these fights (this relationship development would actually have been a large part of the story)it doesn’t help that they both remind each other of their respective rivals, so they sort of fall into a closer relationship than they would naturally because they both miss them so much.

Their would likely be dashes of madagai in this story but ultimately they’re not each other’s endgame so it would only really manifest in like madaras musings about what a world where they got together might look like. As well as the occasional crisis of faith from gai where he weirdly feels like he’s cheating on kakashi despite them not actually being together till the end of the story.

So yeah hopefully that illuminates the dynamic a bit more :]

ohhhhhhhohohoho taash half-accusingly telling rook 'what would you know? you act like you haven't lost anyone' is soooo good and hits so perfectly for rye in particular (who incidentally was showing his true credentials as varric's spiritual son in giving good advice he has never, ever, not once in his life, actually followed himself. and probably never will! (also the only option at that point in the convo that doesn't give you approval interestingly. taash rightfully doesn't quite buy what rook's selling there lol.) of course it's okay for you to be sad and feel abandoned because your parent figure is gone even though she never meant to leave you. not me though. obviously. that's just going to have to be an untended open grave of a wound in my heart forever there's nothing for it). it's such a good hint as to how odd rook's reaction to varric's death must seem to the rest of the team even as they eggshell tiptoe walk around it. of course no one wants to be the first person to broach the subject with rook. would YOU want to be the first person to break through that weird serene lack of reaction and find out what's hiding beneath it??? because none of the potential answers to that have the outlook of being entirely comfortable. (the real answer being, of course, 'oh shit blood magic empowered denial stage!!!'. which is also not great but would have been good to know sooner probably lol)

in general I LOVE the relationship I've been able to set up and keep developing between these two. there's such a solid throughline that there is so much affection in this relationship... but taash consistently picks up on rye's bullshit (as much about what he tells himself and thinks about himself as anything else, I don't think he means to be deceptive necessarily he's just out of touch with a lot internally), on the lack of complete authenticity that's there however well-meaning. and (probably wisely) keeps that last little bit of distrust and distance because of it. no one in the world could want to help them more earnestly than rook, and his protectiveness and tenderness for them is genuine and from the core. but beneath it all rye is not in a place with himself to be what they really need because at the end of the day and in many ways they're probably already further along in the quest to be true to themselves without apology or obfuscation than he is. and also he's going to get their gf killed inadvertently in a hot second so like. layers. layers of stuff and resentments and broken promises never quite made and reflections never quite faced going on here despite everyone's best intentions every step of the way lmao (which could be the subtitle of this game in many ways so that works out excellently thematically). 'I feel like I'm always letting you down and I'm so sorry' cycle keeps grinding on.

at the same time taash is working through ways to reconcile with and find ways to live with their mother and the memory of her in all her shortcomings because they love her and she means so much to them that they don't want to let it go completely, 'I just have to find a way to hold you that doesn't hurt me so much even if that means I can't clutch you as closely as I might have wanted once'... they're having to do some of the same process with rook. forgiving someone for what they couldn't be for you and finding other ways to get what you need -- not because this person ever meant to let you down, but because they simply don't have the capacity for whatever reason not to, a bit. there's going to be an oh how the turntables moment at some point down the line where taash rounds on rook to bark 'hey asshole forgive yourself already. you can't be everything to everyone and no one's asking you to be but you. and if anyone is asking you to be that they're dicks because that's unfair. stop beating yourself up I don't like having to watch my friends be bullied.' and rye will have to lie awake staring at the ceiling for a couple of nights after that probably. but maybe there's some hope he'll finally listen.

(I think the only person who gets rye completely unfiltered is lucanis by the end. which is not at all reflecting on the rest of the crew -- RYE rarely gets rye completely unfiltered all of those relationships are still very important no matter what lol. but I think lucanis has both the eyes to see through to and understand the truth and the unflinching 'I said all in and I meant all in' nature to accept what he sees without hesitation or quibble when he does, which makes rye finally let the walls come down after the fade jail when everything is in shambles inside. the full mutual People think that intimacy is about sex. But intimacy is about truth. When you realize you can tell someone your truth, when you can show yourself to them, when you stand in front of them bare and their response is 'You're safe with me'—that's intimacy and so on and so forth deal. which basically is what that big romance scene is about and why it's. everything.)

Albatross: I've lived under the thumb of my sister my entire life. I've been abused by her mentally and verbally, constantly being mocked and threatened by her. The one time I acted out was from me being severely emotionally distressed by them, where I used my cursed powers to harm my own kin. Since then, I've been blackmailed and force to submit. You CANNOT tell me Mephistopheles didn't lose his shit the moment he saw Lucifer's new haircut (my headcanon is that his hair was longer as an angel, but got partially burned off during the war).

He joins Diavolo for some afternoon tea and whatnot, is having the time of his life, and then - and THEN! Lucifer enters the room, unaware of the heinous crime he's committed. He and Mephisto have nearly the exact same haircut. Even the damn part is placed in the same spot!

Well, Mephisto can't just accuse him of something so ridiculous in front of his Lord. Ridiculous because who does he think he is?! But again, Lord Diavolo should not have to worry about such miniscule matters. This is something between him and Lucifer. This is personal. This is foul.

Yes, Mephisto considers placing a curse on him so that he becomes incapable of sporting the same haircut (something that makes his hair grow much faster, perhaps?). However, Lord Diavolo might catch wind of this, and as Mephisto has bitterly noticed, he tends to take Lucifer's side. Poor, fallen Luci-wuci. Fucker.

Anyways, seeing as he has no other choice left, Mephisto has to change his own hairstyle a little bit. Not too much, because an undercut is literally HIS shit, but enough to differentiate him from that damn ex-angel now-weirdo. Thus, the fashionable curl that oh-so gracefully falls into his face, tickling his nose, emphasizing the vibrant green of his eyes, is born. It's chic, it's fresh, it's new.

Anyways, don't you dare claim they have nearly identical-looking haircuts, because he will tell you to get those subpar human eyes of yours checked for a deadly illness because how could you NOT see the difference? Also, not that he cares, because fuck you, but if you HAD to be honest and if he HAD to listen to it... whose haircut do you like most? 👉👈 Like, only RHETORICALLY speaking, because the answer is obvious, but still... tell him. Be honest. But, like, honest to yourself, because obviously it's him who wears it better. Duh.

Okay, someone tell me if I’m the only person who thinks this, but I think if things had gone differently, Vi and Sevika would actually get along kinda well? Like, their biggest aspects to them is loyalty, even though it looks a little different between them. Sevika is more to the Undercity while Vi is loyal to the people she loves, but my POINT STANDS. And they’re both fighters, they have that in common, AND they’ve already beaten the snot out of each other twice now. That’s how you get to know someone.

Idk, I just feel like if things had gone differently and they hadn’t wound up on opposite sides, like if Sevika stayed with Vander instead of Silco, things would have been better between them and they might have actually gotten along

Okay so I'm still at the start of s7 and so far I have to say I'm pleasantly surprised at how much I like this season so far!

Like after the end of season 6 I was really fucking pissed because of how they treated Danny and how nonchalant Steve seemed to be about it all, but let me tell you -

nothing healed my cold dead soul like that little "I love you" talk Danny and steve have in ep 1 of s7 and how happy Danny looks when Steve finally FINALLY listens to him and doesn't get himself killed as a result! And after that Steve genuinely does try to take care of himself for once?? even if it's just a tiny bit- that's real character-growth right there, my guy! I'm so proud of him!

Also the mcdanno banter is suddenly fun and lighthearted again? Even kind and sweet at times? What happened there?

Don't get me wrong I absolutely love it!

It feels like there is finally some maturity and actual progress to their carguments again like they are actually working through their issues instead of just being bitter?

And I'm so here for that!

After almost two season of them just throwing venom at each other it's just so nice to hear them say stuff again like "I don't want you to be sad :(" "well that's why you're there, you make me happy" ??? <3. URGH MY HEART

Hell yes give me more of that please!

I don't even care about all the Catherine and God awful Doris stuff as long as these dorks finally get to be good for each other again!

Also really love chin and kono getting some much deserved screentime and adventures away from the team and the return of Adam and max! I missed those guys!

Another thing I really love is how - even if I hate the return of Doris with a passion- the team went immediately after Steve to Marokko this time! because they ARE a family!

Also love the detail that Steve kept his promise and informed Danny what was going on and of course Danny spilled it to the rest of the team and it's just so wholesome how much they care <3

Just love the atmosphere so far, it reminds me so much of the earlier seasons in the best way

I didn't even know I was starving for nice sweet mcdanno banter and Jerry being the uncle everyone wishes for, and Lou looking after grace while Danny is away, and chin discovering that yes he'd actually really love to be a dad, and kono and Adam getting to be happy, and kono being allowed to have a female friend for once who is not five 0, and just everyone feeling like a happy supportive family without to much seriousness in the way

Just in general the overall vibe within the team seems to be so much lighter compared to last season? Like you can really feel how Steve's almost death really brought them closer together?

It's good stuff!

Now I'm glad I kept watching,
