Hualian Yuri On Ice AU.

Xie Lian is at the top of the world of figure skating and little Hong-er grows up watching him and idolising him. His walls are plastered with Xie Lian’s posters, all he talks about is skating when he is not in the rink and He Xuan is sick of it but he lets his best friend rave about it all the time. Mostly about Xie Lian though. Hua Cheng just can’t have enough of him.

That is, until, Xie Lian suffers a crushing defeat and then slowly fades out of the world of figure skating. Hua Cheng then joins competitive figure skating and becomes the new icon. His name is everywhere. He is the moment, he is the star. There is freshness to his program and danger in his moves. No one can replicate it. No is as good.

Until Xie Lian, who had gone completely off grid, feels inspired by Hua Cheng and skates his program flawlessly after years out of practice. It gets secretly recorded by Shi Qingxuan and then he goes viral. Again.

And Hua Cheng is a mess because his idol!!! Skated his program!!!

He brings back Xie Lian to the world of figure skating and this time, they skate side by side, competing and yet training together

Okay now that we saw Qi Rong animated I am having More Thoughts about his whole Thing.

Each of the Actual Ghost Kings has something that’s special about them. Something that sets them apart, and makes them scary. Beside the Overwhelming Power, of course.

Bai Wuxiang has the mask. He’s unknowable and faceless and that’s something terrifying.

Hua Cheng has his blood rain. It’s iconic, it’s menacing, it’s terrifying, and it’s uniquely his. When the sky starts dripping blood, you know who is coming for you.

(Never forget that he got the Crimson Rain Sought Flower moniker by messing up Qi Rong and his whole layer)

He Xuan has ravenous hunger. He never stops eating, and he constantly consumes other spirits. Now, that isn’t an entirely unique feature (neither is being masked), but it’s something that both makes him stronger, and makes him terrifying.

What does Qi Rong have?

Nothing, except cheap imitations.

He wears a mask, but it’s nothing so distinctive as Bai Wuxiang. People would know it’s him. He doesn’t try to actually hide who he is.

He hangs the corpses, trying to mimic the blood rain effect that Hua Cheng creates, never actually bothering to understand how he does it or why.

He consumes human flesh, and while that’s scary to people… he doesn’t understand the reasoning. He doesn’t know that He Xuan’s endless hunger was born of being jailed and starved. He doesn’t know that feeling. He doesn’t know what purpose the consumption of spirits and subsumption of them into himself serves.

He just thinks he looks scary.

Qi Rong tries so hard to be a Calamity. A Ghost King. He tries to be notorious and overwhelmingly powerful, but he just ends up looking pathetic and tasteless.

And it’s not even something that started when he was a ghost. Even when he was alive he kept using borrowed authority and prestige, either from being a nephew to the king and queen or from his godly cousin, to assert his own dominance, without true understanding of what actual authority and power entail.

This is a theme in Qi Rong’s life and this just seemed interesting to me.
