Fighting Them During The Chunin Exam
A/N: half of this was written with writers blocks the other half was written when I was high, so don’t judge the quality okay 😊

Naruto
- One by one you both watched as everyone was drawn. When it was just down to four of you, Naruto prayed he would get Kiba
- You both gave a side eye when you were the last opponents
- Oh fucking shit
- He was actually a bit (really) mad, protesting that he could not fight you because you were a friend but when the only response was fight or surrender he bit the inside of his cheek
- “Friend”… yuh uh, he means totally smitten to the point he feels like a dog
- But he couldn’t surrender, not when he was this close to getting his chunin but he didn’t know where you guys would stand after it
- When you reassured him this is just how it was supposed to be and said you’d be honoured to fight him, he only frowned and scratched his head.
There he stood, across from you on this dirty cement floor and he was mesmerized on how you could just smile.
“This gotta be a joke, can you just redraw?” He asked the , displeased evident.
“There’s nobody to draw from, you both are the last opponents,” he irked, finding Naruto’s stupidly uncharming.
“Naruto it’s fine, let’s just do this, I’m hungry,” You slumpt, anxious to get this over with.
- he went easy at the start, only throwing kunais and he played defence
- When he realized you weren’t going easy, he was caught off guard as you punched him right in the face
- He stumbled, looking at you with somehow even more admiration
- Then he got serious and the fight really started
- You lost, but some part of you kind of anticipated it
- You were sprawled out on the floor, head pounding from the attack and you were honestly just so tired from the forest
- When you surrendered he felt relieved, he didn’t know how much longer he could take fighting you
- He ran over to you, he wasn’t happy with the win
- He apologized over and over, helping you up and taking you to the infirmary
- He was so glad you guys were still friends, you meant so much to him
- Totally just friends
- He takes you out for ramen after
- He still is on edge for quite some time, he makes excuses why he can’t train with you and he definitely won’t rough house like you guys use too

- He’s literally panicking internally and in private probably bites his nails from anxiety

- He’ll avoid you for the month of training and when you come to confront him about it he’s eerily upset
“We’re not friends, I am getting my chunen license even if it means hurting you,” he says, stopped inside his door frame as he watches you fold your arms over your chest.
“So that’s it, friendship over because of a silly competition?” You respond, you knew sasuke was aloof and stubborn, but really?
“We never were friends,” he replied, as casual as one could and he hated the way your eyes got glossy. He watched you leave, regretting it but he won’t take it back.

- He wanted to check on you, instead lurking outside your door and kinda of just shuffling around
- He’ll ask the nurses if you’re okay, but he won’t dare go in already knowing he’s fucked up your guys friendship

- low key you were shitting your pants cause WHATT???
- You saw what that boy did to Rock Lee, and now you have to fight him?
- He on the other hand doesn’t care, but the more it gets closer to the fight he starts feeling uneasy

“You…” his cold voice came, you were walking home in the dusk from the ramen shop after hanging out with Naruto.
“Uh.. yeah? Hey?” You responded, confused and a bit anxious as you stuffed your hands in your pockets. He came closer, a blank look on his face.
“Forfeit,”
“Huh?”
“Forfeit the fight, I will kill you,” He explained, blinking so casually as he watched your complexed reaction.

- When you were paired with him for the semi finals he had frowned
- He apologized to Neji and his sensei
- Both were very confused
- He had that cute little ‘hmpf’ look on his face with an even cuter pout as he walked down the steps
- When he came face to face to you you saw this look in his eyes
- Both of you didn’t say anything when the ref asked if anyone wanted to forfeit before he called fight
You braced, drawing your Kunai when the fight began. Rock Lee raised his hand, looking like his traditional taijustu pose.
“I cannot fight you (y/n)! Please forgive me I forfeit,” he yelled, clasping his hands together and falling to his knees before you in a bow.
“…wha…?” You deadpanned, uneased by how loud he had just shouted that. He looked up, seriousness written all over him.
- You guys didn’t talk until after everyone had battled, finding him hiding from you behind the tree outside
- He slumped as you yelled at him
- He let you rant before he started his own ramble, explaining how he couldn’t fight you
- He would never lay a hand on you, it was against his ninja way
- His eyes started to water and his top lip twitched, clearly upset
- You rolled your eyes and went to go get ice cream with him

Neji
- you guys were paired to fight for the finals
- He was stubborn and if you’re a girl.. low key sexist about it
- He thinks he’s being a gentlemen but absolutely obliterating you with ‘facts’
- King of backhanded compliments
- But what he doesn’t know is you started to train with a really powerful sensei who was travelling through the village and offered to help you
- Throughout the whole month training time he was focusing on his fighting, but you were on the back of his mind
- He knew he wanted to win, but he also knew he didn’t want to hurt you either nor ruin your relationship
- So he spent a lot of late nights trying to figure out ways he could knock you out as quick and painless as possible
- This was all internally and completely private to him, he never expressed any weakness on the outside
- He was pretty confident in himself
- When the fight began and he realized.. you were actually catching him off guard he was perplexed
“I don’t-… how?” He coughed up blood, knees weak as he swayed to try and stay up right. You frowned, he hated that.
“I’m not weak Neji, don’t underestimate your opponent. You don’t know me,” Those words were said in order to hurt him, he had ruined your patience with his opinion of you.
“I.. thought I did,” he pondered, eyes lost.

- When he awoke he stared up at the ceiling for a long time after, feeling his wounds and thinking he deserved the pain for how much he took your abilities unseriously

Kakashi’s lame, sloppy and unreliable persona in adulthood is so special to me. It’s really the most radical thing he does to reject the expectations on him and to make up for his past.
This guy is inherently such a serious person. He’s sharp, incredibly intelligent and with years of experience under his belt. He’s a venerated legend and known to basically every ninja in the world. He’s a war vet. The list goes on.
Yet he chooses to present himself as non-threatening. He slouches, is chronically late, lets other people bully him into situations, reads Icha Icha in public and doesn’t fight too hard when his genin team drag him into antics.
After he drops the whole tough guy act with Team 7 early on in the series, he’s surprisingly patient and gentle with them. He answers their questions, calmly corrects them and rarely ever gets mad.
He’s a thousand percent a shambolic mess when he’s first introduced and yet he tries to get it together enough to support team 7. He tries to be there for them.
Without the context of his backstory, Kakashi is still a really compelling character. But when you put it all together, it really does feel quite miraculous that he can be such a loser adult. He didn’t let himself get hardened when it would’ve been so easy to do so. He remains gentle. And I really standby the fact that he is gentle and kind. Those are traits that really shine through to me.
I find myself wondering how he would’ve shown up for team 7 if the Chuunin exams didn’t happen so early in the series. He didn’t really get that much time with them without one major crisis after another. In a way, all the other Jounin senseis got to ease into their role, some even had years but I don’t think Kakashi ever got that.

Sasuke Uchiha has made many mistakes in his life. Fact.
The biggest one, however, had to be you.
From the moment he met you during one of his travels after the war, he could feel it deep inside his chest - a growing feeling of irritation, one that he has not felt since his early genin days. He has seen women like you before - ones that rely heavily on their beauty to get what they want. One coy smile or a seductive glance was enough to tilt the odds in your favour in every situation and - God! - did Sasuke hate it. How was it fair that someone like you could always achieve anything they put their mind to with such an ease, while others had to spend years in hard work while patiently waiting for their moment to shine?
But it wasn't just your looks that captivated people. Your wit, sharper and faster than his sword, had to be your biggest weapon - and you wielded it masterfully, he had to admit. You spared no man or a woman, as you let charming lies and sugarcoated compliments tease the egos of those around you, quickly turning them in nothing more than powerless puppets in your hands.
What angered him the most, however, is how aware you were of your power. You used it unapologetically, without even a single ounce of guilt or shame, as if it was your birthright to make everyone else around you bow to your will. So when he found himself in your bed just a few days after your first meeting, the tip of his cock kissing your cervix with each harsh thrust while his fingers squeezed your throat so hard, you could swear you were seeing stars, he convinced himself that you deserve no mercy.

He knew that as the last surviving member of his clan there was certain pressure for him to settle down, but he didn't expect that everyone would ‘demand’ it from him so soon after the war. He still had to atone to his sins, piece together the shattered fragments of his identity and find his place in this broken world. A relationship - let alone a wife and kids - was the last thing on his mind.
Yet it seemed that everywhere he went, the whispers of the 'last eligible Uchiha bachelor' were faster - by the time he entered a village, he was eagerly welcomed by elders who would parade young women before him, as if they were animals for sale.
It was sickening, really. And no matter how bluntly he expressed he is not interested, the people just didn't take the hint.
So if he could kill two rabbits with only one shot, then…
"We are getting married," he informed you on his last night at your village, while getting dressed. It was not a proposal, or even a question - just a simple, straightforward declaration.
He didn't even spare a glance in your direction as he adjusted his clothes, almost as if he didn't pump you full of his seed multiple times through the night. Unlike any other man you've met (and fucked) before, he was always eager to leave after you two were done. He never held you close or whispered sweet nothings into your ear - no, he hated you too much to put all that effort for a single fuck.
"I don't usually go for men with missing limbs," you snickered with that signature infuriating smirk on your face that drove Sasuke wild, "But I guess the good sex and your last name are worth for me to make an exception."
Sasuke only grunted in response, before leaving you alone in your bedroom. How did you manage to get under his skin so effortlessly, he'd never understand.
He was no fool, he knew that if it was any other man - even that short, fat loser who was your village leader (and lover) - you would've turned him down straight away. But he had something he knew you wanted badly and that was the name Uchiha. You were a smart woman and had calculated all the privileges - the power, the influence, the fame - that a union like that could give you. He knew you were not really interested in him, at least not in the way other women were.
You never fawned over him or actively sought his attention. Instead you were treating him with a level of indifference, gracing him your full attentiveness only when you were intimate. And even then you liked to show your bratty side, refusing to submit and leaving him with no other option than manhandling you till you admit surrender. But you never made it easy, that's for sure.
When he brought you back to Konoha, officially as his wife, everyone thought he had lost the last bit of sanity in his head for good.
"This has to be joke..." Sakura muttered as she watched you walk next to Sasuke into the Uchiha compound, the clan symbol proudly decorating the back of your kimono. She didn't want to sound jealous or envious, but you just looked so... not his type. She had always envisioned him with a strong woman - ninja, for sure - who could balance his cold and distant nature by providing him with all the love and warmth he has been deprived for all these years.
But you? You looked nothing like that. Sure, you were pretty, but you were a civilian who couldn't relate to the shinobi's lifestyle. How Sasuke chose you, a foreigner nonetheless, from all of the available women in Konoha was beyond her comprehension.
"I don't think it is, Sakura-chan," Naruto replied from his spot next to her, his eyes unable to move away from the way you swayed your hips while walking next to his best friend. He knew it was wrong, that he shouldn't look at someone else's woman like that, but how could he control himself? He knew he was too weak to resist you the moment Sasuke introduced you to him and Sakura, and your eyes lingered just a second longer on his, before you turned away, a small smirk grazing your lips.
To say that you had quickly became the favourite woman of every person in the village would be an understatement. All of the men, even geniuses like Neji and Shikamaru, seemed to fall under your spell without much effort. Your confidence, combined with your sharp mind and beauty, seemed to draw in everyone like flies to honey much to Sasuke's dismay. Of course, he expected from you to continue to try playing your little games even after bringing you back to the Leaf, but he thought better of his old teammates.
And it wasn't just the men in the village, either. Even the reluctant women who initially questioned your motivations, like Sakura and Ino, soon found themselves drawn to your company, seduced by the idea of not having to shy away from their femininity around you. All their life they have been taught that they have to train and work hard to be considered as something even close to a man's equal - yet, here you were, without any skills or fighting abilities, managing to wrap every single man around your finger and make them inferior to yourself. You were strong in a way that they hadn't considered before - through your confidence, charm, and most importantly, intelligence.
Sasuke was feeling torn by the whole thing. On one hand, he felt like he had failed in his goal to tame you and keep you in control. A year after he made you his wife, he found himself not only unsuccessful, but completely outsmarted and outplayed by you.
On the other hand, for less than half a decade, you managed to achieve what he thought he may not achieve in his whole lifetime. Not only you had carried his twin boys - a result of him bullying all his frustration and annoyance he held toward you into your tight little pussy every chance he got - but you somehow managed to restore the reputation of the Uchiha clan all by yourself. What was once a name connected only to criminals and bloodshed, was now associated with respect, political influence, and a sense of honor. You had restored the pride that Sasuke thought he never may regain again, let alone be given by someone like you.
When you asked him for a divorce one peaceful night during dinner, he thought he has heard you wrong. His mismatched eyes narrowed, as he studied your calm expression. After six years of using his name to climb to the village's higher circles and giving him sons to continue the legacy of the Uchiha clan, you suddenly wanted to leave?
"I think we had this dance for long enough, don't you, husband?"
Your marriage was far from perfect or even socially acceptable, you both knew that. From the very beginning, it was built on mutual benefits rather than love. Sasuke never grew to be a loving husband, at least in the traditional sense of the word, and neither you learned how to play the role of the typical 'caring wife' at home. Yet, after six years together, you somehow managed to fall into a twisted cycle of love desperation and need for each other.
It wasn't the type of relationship that inspired poetry or flowery fairytales. It was raw, obsessive, and painful. There was darkness in both of you, one which you greedily embraced, feeding off each other's flaws, insecurities and unhappiness. Your fights were loud and destructive, as venomous words were aimed at each other's weakest spots. He never missed a chance to remind you of how unlovable you were - a shiny and pretty empty shell that men saw for its beauty, not for its substance. You never held back in holding his past sins over his head, bringing even his own brother as an argument when you found yourself cornered.
"Kinslayer playing house," you would hiss, the edge of your lips turning slightly upward as you notice his eyes darkening, "I wonder what your dear brother would think if he saw you right now."
Furniture would break, plates would fly, and just like every time, you would find yourselves in your shared bed, tangled in the passion and chaos on which you both thrived.
It was toxic, but it was also consuming. Neither of you knew how to break free from these chains, and neither of you really wanted to. It was addicting, it was broken and it was yours.
Till it suddenly wasn't.
When you brought up the divorce, he knew you have calculated the whole thing - the twins were in the room next door and you never fought when your kids were around. If there was one genuine thing that came out from this marriage, it was your two boys Isao and Jiro. They were born a year after you wed and for better or worse, were a perfect mix of both of your personalities.
Isao was the older son - a confident and focused kid, who despite his young age, has already shown impressive skills with ninjutsu and taijutsu. He always looked up to his father, seeking his approval as he pushed himself harder and harder every day. In a lot of ways, he reminded Sasuke of himself - his black eyes were full of determination, as he refused to settle for anything but being the best in everything he did. Yet, unlike his gloomy younger self, Isao possessed a level of charisma that he surely inherited from you.
Everyone loved Isao - and he knew how to use it to his advantage to get what he wanted, even from you.
Jiro on the other hand, preferred to stay in the background and observe, rather than to be in the centre of the attention. He had Sasuke's calm and reserved nature and unlike his brother, he didn't seek anyone's approval or attention. Quite the opposite - he preferred to hold back his true strength, patiently waiting and strategizing for the right moment to unleash it.
"I'm not letting you take my kids away from me," Sasuke promised you that night, his eyes boring into yours as he sat at the other end of the table.
His voice was cold and firm, so different from his usual venomous hiss he uses during arguments with you. But in his mind this wasn't an argument - it was just one of your many silly tantrums, a move inspired by nothing else than the desire to get under his skin.
"I am their mother and their place is with me," you stated seriously without even a hint of the usual mockery which could always be heard when you were speaking to your husband, "You can still see them during weekends - if you are in Konoha and not chasing shadows of threats across the villages, that's it."
Sasuke's jaw tightened, as he slammed his glass down louder than necessary. You didn't even flinch, as you held his gaze which was slowly becoming darker.
"What are you getting at?"
"You know very well I am getting at," you scoffed, the calm and collected composure finally cracking under the heaviness of all unspoken feelings you carried inside your chest, "When was the last time you spend more than a few days with your kids? You're constantly on the road, doing God knows what, while I am left here-"
"Stop bringing the children into this!" he snapped, interrupting you mid-sentence. His voice was low but with a note of irritation, proving to you that he was holding back for the sake of your children next door. Your lips pressed into a thin line, your teeth gritting together while you pressed your back against the chair. There may have been a fire of defiance burning inside of you, but even you knew when to draw the line, especially when he used that voice.
"This is about you, isn't it?" he clicked his tongue, his head shaking from side to side, "About your greediness and unsatisfiable need to suck the life out of everyone around you, before you move on to your next victim. What, did you already exhaust all the benefits you got from carrying the last name Uchiha?"
The room suddenly grew colder, as you stared at each other, his words still lingering in the tense air between you. He was never one to shy from the opportunity to hit you where he knew it hurt the most and in typical Sasuke's style, it was not his final blow either.
"You talk about my failures as a father all the time, but what kind of mother uses her own sons as pawns in her silly power game?"
Your breath hitched in your throat and before you can even think about it, you grabbed the dinner knife on your right and hurled it in his direction, aiming for his head. He dodged it effortlessly, his eyes narrowing as he saw you reaching for your fork next.
"If you are trying to get my head, dear wife," he said almost mockingly, catching the next flaying utensil with his hand before slamming it down on the table next to him, "Have the decency not to do it while the children are next door."
Gripping the edge of the table to stop yourself from throwing your plate next, all you could see in front of your eyes was red. Blinding, raging red, which was threatening to consume you whole.
God, you hated him! You hated him, you despised him and if it was up to you, he would burn in hell for at least a few eternities!
"You are the last person who gets to lecture me on decency," you chuckled dryly, before reaching for your wine glass and swallowing a large gulp, "Did you also talk to your brother about it when he slaughtered your whole family? Or when you killed him?"
Sasuke's expression immediately hardened and his hand clenched into a fist. He has met many infuriating women in his lifetime, but you... you were a monster! A beautiful nightmare that had her claws deep into his soul, chewing and digging into his very core.
"I've told you not to bring up Itachi-"
"Or what?" you leaned forward, one elegant brow raising as you placed your chin on top of your crossed fingers, "What will you do, Sasuke? Divorce me?"
It was clear you were pushing his limits, Sasuke knew you well enough by now to see through your attempts to rile him up. Despite his realisation, however, it was too late - you had already buried your stinger under his skin, poking at his past wounds that never closed. He closed his eyes, taking a deep breath while trying to control his nerves.
"I am not giving you a divorce," he said finally, his tone cold, "So stop throwing your tantrum and find other ways to pass your free time, which you seem to have in excess. Perhaps finding a job will do you good."
Sasuke got up from his seat, pushing his plate to the side before exiting the dinner room without casting even a single glance in your direction. You pressed your lips together as you watched him leave, the door closing with a quiet thud behind him. There was a brief silence, before you heard Isao and Jiro's laughter from their room at the end of the corridor. With a sigh, you got up and you started to clear the table.

Whatever you wanted, you got. Sasuke had seen you going great lengths to achieve what you wanted. Yet, he didn't think you would actually go this far.
As a Shadow Hokage, he was used to spending months away from home, investigating threats made toward Konoha and if necessary, taking all the measures to get rid of them before they can become actual problems. Most of them were coming from rebel groups in neighbouring countries, who were trying to stir another armed conflict between the nations, but sometimes there were unexpected surprises.
One of these surprises was the letter he received one sunny morning by Koyuki, the leader of the Land of Snow. She had warned Konoha about rumours of unnamed groups, who were actively recruiting members to start a new cult against the Land of Fire. Their motivation seemed unclear, but she had provided enough evidence to give both Naruto and Sasuke a reason to worry.
Leaving the same day, he spend three months travelling across the small country, interviewing civilians, chasing trials and collecting evidence before he found out that his whole thing was orchestrated by no one else other than his own wife.
It wasn't the first time he had found himself tangled in one of your schemes. You had not only the influence, but also the connections long before you became an Uchiha. After you got his last name they only intensified and a single word from you was enough to set a whole series of events and tangle dozen of innocent people in them.
The letter from Koyuki should've been the first sign something was going on. After all, he knew that you two did know each other and that she often described herself as "girl's girl", whatever that nonsense meant. And then all the evidence that kept pointing to no one in particular, before he finally realised this was all one carefully crafted deception.
There was no cult, there were no threats and there was certainly no one in the whole country that even cared about Land of Fire, let alone bother to threaten it.
At first, he couldn't understand what was your motivation. Were you doing it to spite him? To make him look like a fool? Obviously you didn't think about about the potential damage on the alliance between the two countries, and even if you did, you simply didn't care.
"I am sorry it came to this," Koyuki said as she was bidding him farewell at the village's gates, "It’s nothing personal. It’s just a favor to an old friend."
A favor.
The word ringed in his mind the whole way back home and Sasuke didn't completely connect the dots till he came back home, only to find the compound empty, a signed divorce pack laying on the table. "She was alone for months and was probably worried sick if her husband will come back at all," he continued, conveniently missing the fact that it was all you who created this whole situation in the first place, "She was acting under the influence of her distress and worry. You, on the other hand, should've known better."
Naruto sighed, before rubbing one of his hands up and down his face. What was exactly going on between you and Sasuke, he would never understand.

It's so funny how Kakashi simultaneously had so much trust in Sakura as a person able to decide the best course of action for Team 7 when he's not around and yet it reads like he didn't want Sakura to get involved at all on the whole fighting part.

This is my current prompt list. Some are more developed than others and there's a few things I'm working on that aren't on here because, well, I just don't wanna share them lol. Feel free to use these as you will but please tag me! I appreciate the credit and I genuinely just wanna see what yall do with these.
MHA
Class 1A thinks Aizawa is lonely, so they steal his phone and download a dating app. Little do they know he's been married for almost a decade.
You and Bakugou reveal you're having a baby! You decide to surprise your friends before making it public, but it's turns out they didn't know you were even dating.
You'll be assisting Midnight and Thirteen in overseeing the female students at the UA Dorms. Upon meeting, Aizawa immediately dismisses you due to your less-than-professional style choices. Little does he know that your big smiles, frilly skirts, and cutesy heels are a stark contrast to your firm and assertive mindset.
Aizawa is picking Eri up from school when he runs into you- a classmates parent wanting to invite Eri to your daughter's birthday slumber party. For obvious reasons, Aizawa has reservations, but you offer to host them before hand to ease his worries. The whole thing seems terribly bothersome, but the pleading look in Eris eyes forces him to agree. Turns out, you're not so bad after all.
FTM Bakugou who is accidently outed by Inko Midoriya courtesy of baby pictures. Deku saves him in that moment, but he knows it's time to actually tell his friends. He starts with Kirishima.

The village elders have been bothering Sasuke about reviving the Uchiha clan, going so far as offering to find a suitable candidate on his behalf. He initially declines, but as time goes on and he has yet to find a decent woman, he begrudgingly accepts.
Kakashi tasks his genin with watching over a civilian woman while he's away on a mission. Its simple enough, right? When he returns to the village and finds out they completely fumbled the mission, he's pissed. I mean how hard is it to keep his pregnant wife safe for three days?!
Kakashi has always seen his students as young, but has never thought of himself as old. Well, not until he's picking his kid up from school, where he runs into his former students, who are also picking their kids up. It doesn't help that Naruto and Sakura encourage their kids to call Kakashi 'Grandpa'.
Sasukes only friend is Naruto. That was fine when they were kids and practically only had each other, but now the blonde was a somebody, and that meant his time would have to be divided. Luckily you're around pester him in all the right ways.

Tenzo is leading team seven back to the village, but he needs to make a stop first. It's a quick errand, one that will surely aid Narutos training, but might be a little difficult. Then helps build them. And also takes you up on your offer for dinner.
Someone is messing with team seven, distracting them from their training. After spending all day trying to figure out who's behind the pranks, they come face to face with a little girl, hiding behind an oddly complex genjutsu in the trees. When captured and brought to their sensei, he taunts his students for getting bested by his six year old daughter.
ATLA
Zuko is tired of palace life, but as the Fire Lord, he can't exactly walk into town for a normal outting. He waits for the Autumn Mask Festival to sneak out, where he runs into you- a stranger willing to help him have as much fun as possible. Turns out you're the palace gardener, who immediately recognized him and decided to take matters into your own hands.
You're the decendant of an air nomad who was away from the temples to gather supplies during the raid 100 years ago. Your lineage is a well kept secret hidden smack dab in the middle of the fire nation and your parents have been diligent on passing down the knowledge of the air benders. When you hear of the avatars revival, you make your way to them and offer your teachings.

Nanami lives across the hall from you. He's older, has a great job, and is a total buzzkill- but that only makes him all the hotter. Youre young, still in college, and incredibly annoying. He swears you speak another language- one chocked full of obscure references and inflated by flamboyant body language. You pester him in the halls and knock on his door to offer pastries at ungodly hours, so why did he hand over his phone so easily when you adk for his number? [Bonus!] Its been two months since your neighborly antics have turned into a full-blown friendship! You've spammed his phone with cacophony of memes and lore that he doesn't understand. You call him between classes and let yourself into his apartment to leave treats on his counter. He wants to be bothered, really, but can't find it in himself to be. You've just handed him an invitation to your masters ceremony- wait, what? His ditzy neighbor is getting her masters in aerospace engineering?!
Nosey teenage Yuuji is peering over his older brother, Sukuna's, shoulder and sees him texting a girl. He tells anyone and everyone who will listen, making them curious as to who this mystery woman could possibly be. Backed into a corner, he finally introduces you to, well, everyone, and they're shocked to find out youre a total ray of sunshine! Kind, bubbly, and a kindergarten teacher to top it off.
Sukuna, the King of Curses, is not a patient or forgiving man, but for some unknown reason, he allowed you to do as you pleased with him. You spoke freely and touched without permission, a gift youve never come close to abusing. One day he comes home from God knows what, in an obviously sour mood, and while you proceed with what you think is a good attempt to quell his anger, you're met with a slice to your cheek. It's minor, likely to not even scar, but the act is enough to cause a rift in your relationship and he has to find a way to mend it.
(NSFW) You're the best physics tutor at Yuuji's university and he's in desperate need of help. With more students than private rooms in the library, you settle on sessions at his unlces house. It's Saturday morning, you're gearing up to write an essay, only to discover you've left your laptop at his place- but that's no problem, because his uncle is home and can eat you in. Too bad he left out the part about how hot Sukuna is.

A few bites of ice cream out of the freezer or something you grabbed from the konbini on the way home. Youve never used the restroom in the middle of the night before, but it's been a pattern the past two weeks. The final straw was your increased drowsiness. Youve always been an early riser, often beating the sun, but your internal clock has shifted forward. The addition of naps to your days does not go unnoticed by the blonde. You don't think much about any of these things until your husband is placing a box of pregnancy tests in your hand and asking you to trust him.
Suguru isn't sure why he agreed to a blind date set up by Satoru of all people. He's busy thinking of ways to politely escape whatever the blonde could have possibly sent his way, when he notices you taking the seat in front of his. He'd been expecting a loud, ditzy, party girl- not too unlike the ones his friend brings home on the regular- not this. No, youre obviously of higher class, someone closer to Satoru's status, if the quality of your clothing is anything to go by. You offer your name as well as your relation to Gojo, and its no surprise that your father's are long time business partners. By the end of dinner hes asking for your number, damn near vibrating in place as you type it into his contacts and send a little heart emoji to yourself so you have his too.
Your friends are complaining about men. You're happily listening, not having much to add since you're in a happy relationship, but one thing catches you're attention. "Isn't six inches kind of small?" Well, no, it's not. Apparently your boyfriend is very gifted, something you were unaware of since he's the only man you've ever been with. (Heavy Toji coded)
You don't know how you ended up here, sitting on the edge of Shoko's bed, bodies awkwardly contorted so your knees are touching hers. Her hand is in your hair, pulling you deeper into the kiss. She tastes like smoke, something so undeniably her.

It's easy to piece together that this intruder is like your husband, so you do as instructed and run into your room, hide under the bed, and call him. He's rushes home, nearly causing an accident in the process, and is pissed to find out the threat is only his annoying coworker. He coaxes you out of the room, open arms ready and waiting for the adrenaline drop youre sure to experience. When all is settled, Gojo's only defense is that he didn't know Nanami was married.
Toji has never felt old until he met you. You bartend at the club he frequents and after shooting his shot for what had to be the hundredth time, you finally agreed to a date. Then another. And another. And suddenly he was completely immersed in the world of his twenty four year old girlfriend. It was fun at first the drinking and dancing and partying- but he's not as young as he used to be and the liquor is catching up to him. At his wits end, he finally confesses that he can't keep up. Luckily for him, youre more than happy to stay in wit your old man boyfriend.
Baby daddy Sukuna who only recently got his shit together. You'd had enough of the in and out- the inconsistency, the empty promises, the lack of support- it was all affecting your daughter. He either needed to sober up and stay out of jail or you'd move forward with terminating his rights to your daughter.

Gojo thinks you've been dating for the past year while you've been pining in secret, having no idea that this man was in wayyy deeper than you.
Gojo couldn't possibly be married, right? Then who was he on the phone with that could've had such an intimate contact name? That he was calling dear and love? Yuuji and Nobara are on the case! Too bad they could've just asked Megumi, who would've told them that his pseudo father is not just married, but a father as well.

Kakashi doesn’t know what to make of Naruto.
When Kushina and had first announced her pregnancy, he’d been prepared to be shoehorned into the role of big brother, no matter how unqualified he felt for it. Sensei was the only family he had left, so of course his kids would be family too.
Then he’d been betrothed to her and Kakashi did everything he could to stay as far away from her as possible. Because if he was going to marry her, he sure as shit wasn’t interested in being her big brother. Any marriage between them was going to complicated and awkward and terrible already, there’s no reason to make it worse by adding the complication of a pseudo-sibling relationship.
By the time their engagement had been broken and he’d been replaced by Sasuke, avoiding her had just become a habit. He didn’t know her, really, and it was on purpose. He figured he could get to know her later, when she was older, and they could both pretend it was a relationship they had any choice in.
But now he doesn’t know her at all, except that he knows she’s hiding something – lots of somethings, by the way she’s sneaking around and the people she’s talking to. He wonders if Minato knows about any of it and comes to the conclusion he doesn’t, which seems like it should be impossible, but.
He’s not the only one that’s been avoiding Naruto.
Minato can’t look at her without seeing his failure as a father, husband, even hokage. Kushina fusses over her like a doll on the mantle, always so worried over her heath and her chakra and what the demon is doing to her, but Kakashi wonders if Kushina knows anything more about Naruto than he does.
It’s occurring to him for the first time that in a lot of ways, Naruto grew up lonely.
It’s not what any of them wanted for her.
He drops down next to Tsume, not bothering to try and sneak because it probably wouldn’t work. “Hey.”
She doesn’t look up from her scroll. “Nice stunt you pulled there. I’m surprised Minato hasn’t skinned you alive.”
“I don’t know what you’re talking about,” he says. Luckily Minato just thinks he didn’t prevent it from happening, rather than actively setting it up, so he’d gotten out of it with just some bruises. “Do you know what’s going on?”
That gets him her attention. Considering how derisive it is, he sort of wishes he didn’t have it. “You don’t? And you still arranged it?”
“She asked,” he says, wincing beneath the mask when it comes out more defensively than he’d intended. “Last time she asked me for something she’d uncovered an almost coup and found Madara.”
Tsume’s a clan head. She’s one of the few people that know the truth of exactly what happened back then.
“Makes you wonder what could possibly get her this worked up, doesn’t it?” Tsume asks mildly.
His heart sinks. “So you don’t know.”
She shrugs. “Naruto doesn’t tell me things. Sasuke or Itachi might know, but good luck getting any Uchiha to flip on her. You could probably torture something useful out of Sakura.”
“I’m not really at the point of torturing civilian born genin,” he says testily.
Yet, anyhow.
“Guess we’ll just have to trust her,” Tsume says, going back to her scroll.

Puppetry requires a level of fine chakra control on par with medical ninjutsu, in addition to a deep understanding of chakra flow manipulation, chakra networks, and an understanding of human anatomy and physiology to make poisons. This is why many accomplished puppeteers can double as medical nin (like Chiyo). Therefore, it’s an incredible difficult art to learn and most do not advance beyond the mastery of one puppet.
Kankurou, as a genin, could use two puppets in tandem and as a jounin, could use three. By the time the 4th War rolls around, he had five puppets in his arsenal. It’s unknown whether he can use more but it’s an indicator of immense skill to be able to use more than one puppet (e.g Chiyo’s 10 puppets and Sasori with 100+). But Kankurous has incredible control over human chakra networks as well as he is seen to connect his threads to people, which only Chiyo has been shown to do. Sasori even praised Kankurou’s control when he connected his threads to Sasori’s and yanked him into the pit.
Shinki is a very talented young shinobi with strong chakra, but like Gaara, his power lies more in might and less in fine control. Gaara does have extremely fine control, but Shinki’s is not as good (at least not yet). So learning to use chakra threads is a challenge for him. Eventually, Kankurou makes a puppet that allows Shinki to manipulate it with his Iron Sand

Gingerly taking the bento being offered to him, something flickered within Sasuke’s lone visible eye which disappeared almost as soon as it appeared. Even without opening it, he was already sure of its contents.

“Please give her my thanks when you get home. I’ll drop this off myself once I’ve cleaned it,” the Uchiha makes sure to use his left hand as he receives the lunch box, a small shiver running down his spine as a brief image of you happily preparing this meal for him appears in his mind’s eye.
“Will do, Oji-san! And thank you again for today’s training session. Please come visit us at home whenever you can. Kaa-san always looks forward to your visits. She always says you don’t visit enough,” Shinachiku’s soft laughter reminds Sasuke of how much he takes after you than Naruto.
From the shade of green in his eyes, to the way his smiles aren’t as blinding as Naruto’s and yet exudes the same strength and softness yours does. Shinachiku Uzumaki is his father’s son, but no one can ever deny that he is also his mother’s child.
He could’ve been your child.
All of them could have been yours.

When both he and the young genin separate for the night, him to his lively home filled with the happiness and laughter of family, Sasuke on the other hand retreats to the lonely Uchiha compound. He is all too used to the dreary atmosphere of the place he once called home, his steps never faltering as he entered the main house’s kitchen and sat himself at the dining table.
Inside the 3-layer bento were several onigiri with various fillings, namely umeboshi, salmon, and bonito flakes. A tomato salad that definitely was one of your own homegrown ones (because he has never seen, smelled, and tasted any tomatoes more delicious than yours). The tomato soup was still warm and felt even warmer as he ate it as slowly as he could, savoring the myriad of flavors contained in such a seemingly simple dish.
Though he wasn’t fond of sweets, the avenger couldn’t ignore the slice of strawberry shortcake you packed for him. The first bite of cake reminded him of the sweetness of the youth he spent with you despite his hyperfixation on killing his own brother at the time.
If he’d known the truth that early on then perhaps he wouldn’t have wasted all his time chasing after Itachi.
Naruto wouldn’t have had the chance to take you for himself if Sasuke understood that you were worth much more than his misguided revenge.
Even though Naruto left for training with Jiraiya, the blonde was more than happy to regale him with tales of how the two of you would do your best to send each other letters despite how they constantly went from place to place. Somehow, you always found yourself to him, and he to you.
It made Sasuke sick.
Don’t even get him started on all the flies that buzzed around you while he and Naruto were gone.
Despite most of the original rookies having settled down, the Uchiha was very much aware of how these same men gravitate towards you before Naruto went and made his formal claim.
That know-it-all Nara, the arrogant Hyuga, even Gaara of the Sand were almost always seen around you.
Hell, even that damned swordsman from Kiri who’s now currently its Mizukage was too close to you. Don’t even get him started on Haku who’d more or less become your guard dog ever since you saved both him and Zabuza all those years ago during that mission in Wave.
As much as he despised their attentions on you, he knew deep inside of him that all of them saw the very same thing in you that drew them all in like moths to a flame.
And he HATED it.
Hated that they all coveted you when none of them deserved to have you.
Sasuke’s last thought as he closed his eyes was that of you.
Always YOU.
The Sakura blooms you gifted him smelled so nice…It was a good thing he placed them on his bedside table, because he could close his eyes and pretend that it is the scent of your hair.

In his first life, Sasuke simply scoffed at your attempts of kindness towards him. Batting you off at every opportunity as he believed himself above such camaraderie when his only goal in life was to enact his revenge.
Not anymore.
Without saying anything, the raven-haired preteen grabbed the Okaka rice ball just before Naruto could take it.

The four things I notice and hate the most in Gai's (bad) characterization:
Intelligence: In some fics they make him completely stupid, with no ability to conform to social labels or understand what they say to him without rethinking it, and that makes my blood boil because this guy is anything but stupid; He is an avid learner and always seeks improvement (genin at 7, chuunin at 11. He may not be Kakashi but he is still quite a lot, right?), able to predict, if I remember correctly, up to a hundred movements of his enemy before to be executed, someone who thinks quickly in battle and very adaptable.
My God, he drives NUNCHAKUS and you think he's incapable of concentrating? I understand that it is one thing to sit down and study and another to train, but I don't think GAI, of all people, wouldn't take on such a challenge. Appearing empty-minded is his facade, his mask. The only way I can accept that he's pretty stupid is if it's because of the trauma of losing his father, he clings to the attitude of a child as a way to feel like he's back in his childhood. AND YET-
Okay, next point.
Darkness: This man was literally beaten by chuunin because when he was a child just for being the son of a outcast of Konoha, they made fun of him and probably isolated him from the rest as a child, and he has also been under a strict exercise regimen since he was 5 years old. An exercise that made him fall from fatigue and pain, and he, despite everything, continued to get up, continued to force himself to overcome the pain. Gai's darkness is not easily detected because he is not visibly cruel to anyone but himself; The only way he is easily seen is with his relationship with Lee, his dedication to put him through everything he put Lee through even though he is the person Gai loves the most (possibly after his father). The way he pushed his (Lee's) limits to the point of telling Lee that he should face death to hold onto some hope for a better future (to be a shinobi again) is very dark. The relationship he has with Rock Lee ironically brings out the worst parts of Gai, and there we enter the next point.
Cruelty: Gai is a character who has been shown to have an extremely strong code of values, in which benevolence always comes first; He is empathetic in a world where that is condemning, he is kind to people who at best only make fun of him for how he looks. In short, a great person. But that does not mean that he is not cruel, that he hesitates when killing; he is still a soldier, a child soldier who participated in a war based more on ego than anything else. His moral code does not prevent him from killing, but rather makes him limit himself, to limit himself to what is absolutely necessary. If he has defeated his opponents and thus achieved his mission, then he will not kill, because the rest are shinobi like him and also had a mission.
We've only seen traces of Gai's cruelty throughout Naruto, small flashes of what he truly is in battle. Do you seriously think that the title of Beast is achieved only by defeating enemies? It is not even a specific animal, but literally: Konoha's Beast of Prey.
And what is a beast but an animal that kills cruelly? One kick of his was capable of breaking rocks when he was just a child. What prevents him from punching through his opponent's chest? Breaking skulls using just his fingers? You're not going to tell me that someone like him, with his strength, is not capable of ripping off your arm in a single movement.
Gai is capable of great, great cruelty cultivated by years of being humiliated by the village he now protects with his life, by the Village for which he destroys his body day by day. Still, his morals prevail, but it does not mean that cruelty is inappropriate for him.
And possibly the root of all his problems...
Death Wish: Dying for the Village is something that is as ingrained in how Gai thinks as any Konoha child, but this takes a drastic turn when his father sacrifices himself to save him. His father was, despite being ashamed of him, his World. The only person who loved him with everything, who showed him sweetness and tenderness in everything, he who took care of him as the most precious thing he had. In a place where everyone hated him and slowly began to change because Gai was useful to them, only his father loved him unconditionally, no matter what.
It is not specified how old Gai was when his father dies, but he can be placed after 11 and before 14, and that is possibly the source of what he is like; totally adhered to what his father was in an attempt to demonstrate that Maito Dai was a great man and shinobi through his legacy of the Eight Gates, his greatest and only technique. It is known that before he was 20 he had already acquired his title of the Blue Beast of Konoha, so it is accurate to say that he already knew how to open the Seventh Gate, at LESS THAN TWENTY YEARS OLD, the time it took his father to master the technique.
Gai's desire for death and his perspective of it is shown by his speech about Lee's highly risky surgery; If he can't live fully as a ninja, then he doesn't want to live. For him, Death is a price, the most precious coin that he is able to throw to prove something, to prove that he is worth something in a world where Death is common, where he was expected not to survive, much less prosper.
He lives life to the fullest, being his best person, enduring whatever it takes because he knows that his end, his death, when it happens, will show everyone that he was never weak, that he was incredibly powerful, and for someone who grew up being treated as the lowest scum except by his father, who ended up dying in a blaze of glory as an outcast, a death like that is the highest he can aspire to. For him, the only destiny is death, and the only way to prove his worth. And that's not fucked?
(And if you want to add another tragedy, possibly the Eighth Gate was a relief during the war because Gai's death cannot go unnoticed, hidden. Being someone who had so many limitations, being at a significant disadvantage, and being sent to war so young, where the majority are children or other young people who die anonymously, the Eight Gates were his way of establishing that no, he would not be killed, because he would kill himself first. Oh, now i know why he respected Kisame so much at the end.)

I had this idea on a whim for a Generation Swap AU where our team 7 were the legendary Sanin training Tsunade Jiraiya and Orochimaru— here’s Sakura and Tsunade done. I really love and am proud of these designs so I hope you do as well…
Furthermore here’s a bit of lore:
Sakura would be the second of the Sanin to be introduced. She’d come into the story after the Chuunin exam preliminary’s to find Tsunade, who has qualified for the final round, training relentlessly. However, due to unforeseen circumstances in the second round, Orochimaru is the one getting the most attention from Hiruzen so Tsunade gets left to train on her own— to little avail. That’s when Sakura comes around and stumbles upon Tsunade training in the woods and eventually decides to train her in at first Taijutsu, preparing her for the Chuunin exams. Tsunade wins her first round before Konoha is attacked by Sasuke and the hidden sand (and I’ll build on that later possibly). In this attack Kakashi Hatake, the 4th Hokage is killed by Sasuke.
Not long after the attack Sakura is the one they initially ask to take on the title of Hokage. However, she ultimately declines and instead recommends Naruto, who she would then head off to go search for, as he is off searching for Sasuke. Tsunade ultimately decides to stay behind because not only is she decently injured from the Chuunin exams and the attack on the village, but Orochimaru and Dan Katō are both in the hospital and she didn’t want to leave them behind. As Sakura is preparing to head out Jiraiya, who has seen a plethora of failures recently and has been frequently pushed to the side, convinces Sakura to let him tag along. The two find Naruto pretty late at night. He’s decently drunk and is eating ramen while flirting with a group of girls. Jiraiya is left in the room for this interaction (I’ll build on this in the Naruto and Jiraiya post) Sakura talks with him and eventually gives him the proposal—
“Kakashi sensei is dead Naruto. The village needs you to take over and become the fifth Hokage” Sakura demands, straightening herself upwards
“Hokage? Absolutely not,” Naruto laughed, placing his saki down and kicking his feet up onto the table, “that’s out of the question, y’know-“
Sakura cut him off, “What about your dream? That optimistic loud mouthed knucklehead who swore he was going to be Hokage? Now that dream is finally about to come true and you’re going to refuse? Let it all go?”
“Yeah” Naruto said bluntly, “I just can’t do it. I’m sure you’re much more qualified than me.”
Sakura sighed, “Is this about Sasuke?” She didn’t want to face it, but she knew eventually she’d have to. She didn’t want to give up on him, didn’t want to admit that he was too far gone, but now? Kakashi Hatake was dead, all because of Sasuke. Naruto was going to have to accept that eventually.
“How am I supposed to be Hokage, if I can’t even save one friend?” Naruto’s expression went cold. His words were followed by a long silence, as Sakura felt a tear fall down her face.
“I get it,” she grunted, “I’m sure you know perfectly well that I feel the same way. Because somehow, after all of this time, after everything…I still love Sasuke Naruto. But he killed Kakashi Sensei, he attacked the leaf. You’re the village hero, the nine tails jincuriki, the toad sage, one of the legendary Sanin. But most importantly, you’re Naruto Uzumaki…and you’re the only one who can do this.” There was another short, yet sad, silence, “give up on-“
Naruto snapped himself up from the table, gave Sakura a sad look, before storming off.
That night Naruto meets Jiraiya. One thing leads to another, they encounter Sasuke, and Jiraiya ends up convincing Naruto to agree to become Hokage.
….
In the results of the previous Chuunin exams, Tsunade and Dan are both made Chuunin.
Not long after Orochimaru would flee the village. Naruto dispatches Tsunade, Jiraiya, and a team of two other genin to attempt to stop him. Due to the small size of the group Orochimaru would flee with (of just Suigetsu and himself), as well as Suigetsu’s skills as a shinobi, they slip away very easily. Tsunade and Jiraiya would keep Orochimaru in the back of their minds, but in the end decide to focus on their own goals and ambitions.
Despite her words to Naruto, Sakura can’t allow herself to simply abandon her quest to find Sasuke. However, it’s different now. Rather than “save him” her new goal is more-so to monitor him. Sakura would work out in the field, traveling the land of fire in order to observe Sasuke in an effort to protect the village. Not only that, but she also works to observe a group of rogue ninja known as the Akatsuki, who seem to intend to eventually target Naruto and all the other tailed beasts.
Tsunade convinces Sakura to let her travel with her, in which Sakura would spend this time teaching her medical ninjutsu. They travel for three years and then return to Konoha and ta-da that’s all I got for the girls. Thanks for reading if you made it all this way, more probably in the future.

One for the Ages - a Kakashi x fem!Reader fic
Chapter 2/5

Author's note: Thank you for showing interest in this fic guys! Already writing Chapter 3, as this one ends on a bit of a vague note. As previously, this is a reader self-insert, slowburn fic, but the reader has a pre-established past, which reveals itself along with the story. Any feedback is greatly appreciated!!

Summary (from part 1): A new shinobi joins the Konoha ranks and Kakashi finds himself inexplicably drawn to her.
Warnings: This chapter is a bit gorier than the previous, as there is a fight scene, including blood and wounding.

A couple of weeks had passed since her nightly encounter with Kakashi, but Y/N was too busy to allow herself to dwell on it. Training team 8 had begun, she was getting to know her new students; Shino's natural talent and odd, but principled nature; Kiba's wildness and strength; Hinata's willingness. Y/N was quickly growing fond of her bunch.
They'd just come back from another D-rank mission, fetching some rare birds for a wealthy lady in the suburbs. The mission had posed no threat to her team, nonetheless, she felt exhausted from having to shepherd her energetic genin, especially keeping the eager Kiba and Akamaru at bay. It was evening by the time she'd dropped the report off at the Hokage's office, and she looked forward to her bed.
Fresh out of the shower, she threw her head on the pillow, weary boned and peaceful minded. Yes, tonight she'd sleep well.
A few hours passed, she'd tossed and turned, tried reading, tried meditating, but sleep just wouldn't come. Exhausted, Y/N finally gave up and decided to take one of her midnight strolls. She couldn't help but think back to her interaction with the grey-haired jōnin, secretly hoping she might bump into him again.
She deviated from her usual path, instead opting for a walk through one of the parks, dimly lit by street lamps. She passed the gate and froze in place. As if reading her mind, there he was, lying on one of the benches, book in hand, grey locks of hair spilling off the edge.
Taking a deep breath, she walked towards him. If he'd heard her footsteps he made no show of it.
"Hello. It seems we meet again under the cover of night." She smiled a little wider than she intended to.
Kakashi looked up, his eye scrunching a little in what she hoped was a smile back.
"Another sleepless night?" He asked, shifting his position to make space for her.
"Maybe I was hoping to bump into you again."
Kakashi turned to her, his surprise too sudden to be concealed.
"I was only joking! Yes, the night seemed pleasant enough to clear my head." She leaned back on the bench, looking up towards the sky.
"And you? Surely, your bed would be more comfortable to read in?"
He cleared his throat and followed her movement, leaning back to look at anything else but her face.
"My room feels too crowded with ghosts at night." His voice - just above a whisper.
Her silence seemed to acknowledge a mutual understanding.
"Well, would you mind some company for awhile? She finally asked.
"Not at all."
So they talked. Starting with the safe topics first, how their teams of genin were getting on, the silly missions they had done, giggling like school kids at Naruto and Kiba's antics. Eventually, conversation stirred towards more personal questions, each treading carefully around the full truth of their pasts, but opening up that much more with every subject. Time passed unnoticed, but they began to feel more comfortable around each other. Kakashi slouched on the bench, his body relaxing; Y/N gathered the courage to look at him while talking; when either of them shifted in their place, they moved an inch closer to each other.
The first birds of the morning began their songs, waking both shinobi from their mutual reverie. The sun hadn't quite started rising yet, but it wouldn't be long now.
"I'm afraid neither of us has gotten any sleep tonight, after all." She let out a sigh.
"Can I tell you something, Y/N?" Kakashi shifted his whole body towards her. "I'd rather a night like this, than any good night's sleep."
The bench suddenly felt hot, or maybe it was her body that was on fire. She prayed her cheeks hadn't betrayed the stir she felt in her stomach, as she looked into his dark visible eye.
"May I..." She hesitated for a moment. "May I see your other eye?" It wasn't curiosity that made her ask. She'd heard the stories, she knew what hid under the mask. It was an unrealised desire to know his features, to be more intimately acquainted with him, that forced the question out of her. Seeing the slight surprise in his face, she regretted it, he must've thought her rude for asking.
"You don't have to, of course!" She tried to backtrack. "It's only... well, I consider us friends...and..." Blurting out words that didn't quite make sense.
"It's okay. It's not a secret. The sharingan just drains my chakra, so I keep it covered." Kakashi lifted his headband to reveal his scarred eye, giving off the reddish glow of the sharingan.
Without thinking, Y/N reached her hand, gently placing it on his cheek.
"Kakashi... it's beautiful."
He almost flinched at the gesture, but managed to keep his body still. Feeling the cool of her hand on his hot cheek, he couldn't help but slightly lean into it. They remained like that, transfixed, staring into each other's eyes, neither of them sure what any of it meant.
There was a faint russle of leaves and the gate opened, as a woman and her dog came into the park. The first civilians were waking up.
Y/N pulled her hand back, as if caught doing something inappropriate. She felt dizzy, excited, saddened.
"I should go back. Early start and everything..." She trailed off, hoping he'd argue for her to stay. But why? Meeting no resistance, she got up, dusting herself off just for something to do.
"Thank you for the company, perhaps we'll bump into each other again." She tried putting a casual smile on.
"Perhaps." He echoed after her, his expression unreadable. He pulled his headband over his eye again. "Goodnight, Y/N."
"Good morning, Kakashi." She said, walking away from him.
He remained still, watching her until she disappeared out of view, his mind and stomach both in knots. Kakashi couldn't even begin to find the thread that would unravel them.
Several days later:
Y/N was called into the Hokage's office, where she was handed a folder with her first S-rank mission for the Leaf Village.
"You will be accompanying Kakashi Hatake on this mission to deliver valuable documents to our allies in the Village Hidden in the Sand." The jōnin on duty said, passing her the brief. "You leave first thing in the morning."
"I don't need to tell you, Y/N, that the information you will be carrying is of the utmost importance." The Hokage added in a serious tone. "If it were to fall in the wrong hands, we could have another war at our doorstep. So guard these documents with your life."
"Understood, Lord Hokage." Y/N nodded, but lingered for a moment. "May I just ask... why was I selected for his mission?
"You were requested by Kakashi." The jōnin replied.
"Thank you." Y/N bowed and left the office. Sure, she had recently become friendlier with the gray-haired ninja, but why choose her for such a dangerous mission. She supposed she would find out.
Early next morning she stood at the village gates, packed up and ready to go. She knew from her briefing, that Kakashi was collecting the documents they were meant to safeguard, so he would arrive any moment.
"Good morning." She heard his familiar voice behind her. He was dressed in his usual jōnin outfit, with a bag strapped to his chest.
They started at a leisurly pace. The journey would take about three days and they didn't need to be on their guard until they stepped further away from the village. They walked in silence for some time, her head spinning with questions. She'd seen the copycat ninja a few times since their sleepless night together, engaging in brief but friendly conversations. She hadn't dared to seek him out on her nightly strolls though, taking unusual paths around the village, afraid of the feelings that were growing in her. Mostly, she was afraid that the withdrawn and mysterious Kakashi would never return them.
Finally, she built up the courage to ask him:
"Why did you request me as backup, Kakashi?"
He didn't respond immediately, as if mulling her question over.
"It surprises you that I think you're qualified?"
"There's plenty of qualified ninja in the village. So why me?"
"Well, I thought your herbal knowledge could come in handy if either of us were to be injured."
"I see." Y/N didn't disguise the disappointment in her voice as well as she thought. But what was she hoping to hear?
"Why did you think I asked for you?" Kakashi turned to her with a smirk, just visible under his mask.
"No other reason!" She quickly added, bowing her head to cover her hot cheeks.
"Plus..." he nonchalantly added "I enjoy our conversations."
She smiled to herself. She didn't dare hope there was any deeper meaning behind his words, but at least she'd gained a friend in him. Perhaps that could be enough. She eased into the walk more, talking about her latest mission with team 8, making Kakashi laugh, which was always a welcome sight.
When they had reached far enough away from the village, they switched their pace, jumping through trees to minimise the potential of getting caught. They were both on edge at this point, trying to make sure they weren't being followed. They decided it wasn't safe to rest overnight, so after a brief respite, they went back on the move under the cover of night. They spoke seldom and when they did, their voices were hushed. But they made small gestures of care towards each other, like passing water to the other without being asked or pulling the straps of the other's bag when it hung loose. It was both teamwork, and something else. They both felt like they could trust the other to look out for them.
On the second night they reached a deep plane with a small forest on the edge of it.
"We'll have to rest tonight, we can make camp here, in the safety of the trees, and take turns keeping watch." Kakashi decided.
"I'll take the first shift." Y/N offered, too wired to sleep yet.
No fire was to be lit, to avoid drawing unwanted attention. They didn't even bother raising a tent, as the season was warm and they wouldn't stay the whole night. Kakashi rolled out his mat and closed his eye into a light sleep.
He didn't know how much time had passed when he heard Y/N whisper his name and nudge his shoulder. She put a finger to her lips when she noticed his stare, her kunai at the ready. Clearly, she'd heard something. It was still dark, the trees casting shadows under the pale moon. Kakashi got up silently, drawing his own weapon.
There was a rustle in the trees, as shuriken flew out towards them, both ninjas stepping away unscathed. Y/N threw her kunai in the direction of the attack, but there was no contact. More weapons flew at them from different directions, the jonin dodging expertly, blocking some of them away with their own. Suddenly, a ninja dressed in black from head to toe, jumped out of the trees with a kick towards Y/N. His movement was so silent that it caught her off guard and sent her flying into a tree. The ninja stood between her and Kakashi now.
"I believe you have something I want." He spoke in an unknown voice. "I suppose, I'll have to kill you both to find out which one has it."
"He must've used shadow clones to attack from so many directions. He could summon them again." Y/N spoke, pulling herself off the ground.
Kakashi drew back his headband to reveal his sharingan. "Then I will know it before he does."
"You don't scare me, Kakashi of the Leaf Village. I know exactly what I'm up against."
The Leaf shinobi went in for a joint attack from both sides, but the black clothed ninja was fast, dodging and jumping away just in time. Y/N tried to pull him back with her wind jitsu, but was blocked by some sort of shield jitsu the ninja wrapped himself in. The force of the the attack bounced off of the ninja, hitting Y/N, as she rolled back bruising all over.
The ninja refused to attack Kakashi outright, so he couldn't predict his movements even with his sharingan. Kakashi wasn't one for the direct approach, but a carefully calculated attack might just land. He made a move towards the ninja, but just as he was about to crush him with his fist, he felt his whole body tense up and a shooting pain went through it. When he opened his eyes again, he was surrounded by some sort of forcefield, like an electric cage. A second ninja, dressed the same had appeared, holding what looked like an electric rope, linking him to the cage.
Y/N, who'd managed to get up again, threw a kunai towards the cage, but it just bounced right back.
"Don't bother." The second ninja sneered. "I designed this trap myself. It's tethered to my life force, so there's no way in our out as long as I'm alive."
"First we'll get rid of you, and then we'll take care of your friend here." The other spoke out, looking towards Y/N. "One of you is bound to have the papers on them."
"We'll fetch a good price for them." They both laughed at this. So they were mercenaries. And they had done their research well. Without Kakashi's help, Y/N wasn't able to take both of them on and survive. To free him, she'd have to kill the one controlling the trap. But to reach him, she'd have to get through the other guy first, and he'd already proven to be an impossible opponent. Neither could she make a run for it, even if she succeeded in evading them, it was Kakashi who held the valuable documents, and she couldn't leave those behind, not to mention leaving him behind.
"Perhaps we'll spare your life if you tell us where they are." The first ninja spoke again.
"No chance." She shot back at him.
"Maybe you need some motivation." Said the other, pulling on the thread of his cage. Kakashi screamed as the forcefield tightened around him, sending shooting pains throughout his body.
"Stop! You're killing him!" She screamed, her heart pounding so hard it could burst.
The ninja loosened the link. "Then give us the papers and we'll be on our way." An obvious lie.
She had no choice it seemed.
"Forgive me for what I'm about to do." She said, looking towards the agonised Kakashi.
Y/N drew her kunai and sliced open her wrist, warm blood pouring out.
"What the hell is she doing?!" One of the ninjas exclaimed.
With a wave of her hand, she drew the blood out, forming it into several daggers. With another quick movement, she shot them towards the two mercenaries, who were too stunned to dodge fully.
"Whatever that was, you missed any vital organs!" One of them shouted, looking over at his bloodstained arm.
"I wasn't aiming for your vital organs." She said, her voice grave.
Her hands moved quickly, forming several comlex signs. "Blood style, bending jitsu." She screamed, snapping her fists closed and pulling them down, as if controlling strings.
"What! What the hell." The two ninjas exclaimed, clutching at their throats, feeling a heat rise from deep within.
"What's happening to me!?"
"I feel like my body's melting!"
Blood started dripping from their eyes like tears, as they fell to their knees, screeching in agony. Finally, they both fell over, dead, in a pool of their own blood.
The cage collapsed, freeing Kakashi, who stood motionless and stunned, starring at Y/N. Her body swayed, she looked up, locking eyes with him, hers filled with sorrow and shame. Next moment, she collapsed on the ground, losing consciousness.

Omg I just finished reading svsss!!! And now you have a naruto au about it!!!
I think either way Houhua Uchiha is hilarious, but especially in that way of *what do you mean he's actually competent/dangerous?* from elite ninja. He's absolutely a sneaky coward.
If he gets noticed by Orochimaru I think Houhua entire.... *everything* will entice Orochimaru in a way that's like. Put it in a jar. I want to put my blorbo in situations! Especially with his .... lack? Weird relation with moral (I mean both of them).
I want to know more about his genin team. Especially his sensei. Like. I know he unplayed his skills, but also he alway somehow has exactly what the situation calls for on a mission. His mission reports would be weird as hell. "Successfully solved village dispute by realizing nearby village was messing for farmer Xs crops because of family dispute about prized cow, solved with better fence and different trade route."
Just. I love this au. <3

YEAHHH YOU GET IT! No matter how strong he gets or may be, Houhua continues to project the aura of a very scared genin. He has whatever the opposite of killing intent is, and it throws all of his opponents off
I think that Orochimaru and Houhua would be fucking amazing to watch interact w eachother actually— Houhua is so fucking scared of him, which is typical of people to act around Oro, but like. Orochimaru seeing past the layers (both real and carefully cultivated) of a coward to see the alarmingly smart little rat underneath.

You know that one scene where Asuma like, tricks Shikamaru into playing some sort of strategy game? And realizes he's really smart? Or smthn like that? Ok so something similar to that for Orochimaru and Houhua could be fun.
Orochimaru somehow sniffed out that there's a LOT more to Houhua than there seems and he's got a bit of an eye on him now, just for funzies. Just as a little side project
(And then Houhua maybe says something incriminating about immortality bc he was an immortal cultivator, and Orochimaru is instantly right behind him breathing heavily over his shoulder)
I think that if Houhua ever tells anyone ab his past life, not that the system would let him, (tho considering the reincarnation in naruto, there might be a loop hole to exploit there?) I'd want it to be Orochimaru who he tells, just bc I think he'd be the most interesting character to get involved in that.
Like, other characters you might get the usual "omg no way" song and dance, maybe some hurt/comfort or whatever, and like that's fun! But Orochimaru you'd get him trying to fucking dissect the system. He's putting his plots on hold to try and figure out how to get this "system" to manifest. And if he can kill it. Or better yet: harness it's power

I am suddenly struggling to think of any naruto characters who are Itachi and Houhua's age that I can throw into a team for him actually. Am I going to have to make some ocs for this? I hope not tbh, I like stuffing as many canon characters as I can everywhere

I can't use Itachi for the team bc he graduated early, do we even know if he was on a genin team or did he just go straight to ANBU? No but he'd have to take the chunin trials no matter what, so hmm

hear me out: Houhua was actually on the very first team Sarutobi tried to saddle Kakashi with. And at first, he's like "omg,,, isn't this Kakashi? did I stumble on a secret plot route???? Is this finally my chance to gain more character relevance points????"
But no. It's not. And Kakashi fails him and his team just like he would have anyways.
Possibly with even more ruthlessness, depending on if Houhua has interacted w him before that.
Hmmm ok so timeline.
Houhua and Itachi are both 13 during the massacre, Houhua was about to graduate, but the massacre and then taking care of Sasuke in the year that followed delayed his graduation, which also meant he got dropped from the team he was supposed to be on (whichever team it was)
So then he graduates fr a year or maybe more later, right around the time Sarutobi is starting to try and peer pressure Kakashi into taking a team.
Kakashi is given Houhua's team, makes eye contact w Houhua like once, then immediatley turns around and leaves without comment.
(This also adds tension between them later on when Kakashi eventually does take Sasuke on as a student. Plus tension between Kakashi and Sasuke, who would remember him as the sensei who failed Houhua + whatever else Houhua let slip, possibly about knowing Kakashi trained itachi)
No fucking clue who he gets saddled with in the end, but it'd be funny if his team gained some sort of reputation of being cursed bc they keep being passed around by sensei's who inevitably drop them for various reasons.
Who do u guys think would be fun to see on his team tho, I really can't think of anyone who's the right age so I'm struggling over here
LOVEEE THE IDEA OF HIM SOLVING CONFLICTS IN REALLY OUT OF NOWHERE WAYS THAT RESULT IN NO BLOODSHED AND 9 TIMES OUT OF 10 BETTER TRADE DEALS AND ROADS THATS SO FUNNY
Its not even that he he doesn't want to kill, he just thinks it's messy and will only lead to MORE problems they'd be called in to fix later down the line. This is actually the easy way, you know!!
(Somewhere far away but still watching through his crows, Itachi goes through several emotions as he watches Houhua peacefully solve more than one dispute when he was brought there specifically for murder. He's kind of going through a lot. Actually.)
(I like to think that if Houhua had been made aware of the root of the Uchiha Massacre, he could have fr helped think up a plot to get them all out of it. Unfortunatley everyone was under the impression he was a silly little untalented 13 year old. So that never happened.)
Houhua gets the nickname of "the beaurocrat nin" or smthn silly like that bc hes always resolving conflicts via the power of paperwork. The silly title only helps to make him seem more harmless, which gives him even more of an advantage in a fight when it comes to taking the enemy by surprise

ABOUT THE POLITICAL IMPLICATIONS OF THE LAND OF THE WAVES ARC, THE ACTIONS OF TEAM 7 AND WHY ITS ONE OF THE BEST ARCS OF THE ENTIRE FRANCHISE:

I'll never shut up about the Land of the Waves arc.
Here are the facts:
A corrupted man —who was believed to be the richest man in the world due his shipping and transportation business— decided he wanted to make his a small land made out of islands, better known as the Land of the Waves.
In Tazuna's words: "Nami No Kuni (the Land of the Waves) isn't a real prosperous land. Even our local lords are poor..."
The name of the corrupted man is Gato. He was affiliated with drug trafficking and contraband, as well as being a criminal who employed gangs and teams of shinobis to help him (through violence) to take over companies and countries alike. That's what he did to the Land of the Waves, taking hold of all the marine transportation and their shipping industry. Since the Land is made of a number of islands, Gato successfully isolated them. He was now the owner of the local economy and had the power to decide how people lived there.
Tazuna is an old man with no money at all who had been tasked to be the architect and overseer of the new bridge. If completed, it would mean that Gato no longer had absolute control over the Land of the Waves. It'd free them all, bring more movement to their economy and stop the crazy violence promoted by Gato's gangs.
To make sure we all understand the severity of the mission and the power of Gato, let's remember that he employed Zabuza Momochi.
Zabuza is one of the Seven Ninja Swordmen of the Hidden Mist. Kirigakure was known for one of the cruelest traditions regarding shinobis: they'd have to fight each other to death and only the survivors would be promoted. Zabuza put an end to it himself, killing an entire year of graduates. He was not even a student yet.
Zabuza also plotted a coup against the Mizukage, but he was betrayed. He became a rogue nin after that, taking money from men like Gato in order to keep living.

That's the first Team 7 mission.
Sakura, Naruto and Sasuke are staked to help Kakashi free a land of a corrupted businessman and in the process have to fight one of the most legendary shinobis they can encounter out there. We're talking about an entire small nation!!! We're talking about the insane irony of Zabuza being a rogue because he fought against the corruption of his own Hidden Village, and he lost and now he has to work for a man doing the same to others.
The first Team 7 lesson was not only to work as one, to value their teammates, but to question the world around them. Kakashi told them to not follow orders blindly and the narrative throws the Team on a mission to test it.
Kakashi accepted to continue the mission without telling the Hokage anything. He knew he had the jinchuriki and the last Uchiha with him, that it was a great risk, but he accepted because he wanted to help Tazuna and the Land of the Waves and he knew Tazuna had not enough money to pay for a class B mission. Hell, he was lucky Kakashi got a genin team. One of the best jonins of the Hidden Leaf could give his service under the disguise of a rank C. Kakashi was using a loophole to disobey orders and he complains the whole time in his head because he knows it's gonna be a mess of a mission, but he does it anyway.

Do you want to know why is my favorite arc?
The reality of the Land of the Waves is a perfect scenario to force Team 7 to wake up. Naruto and Sasuke sure know loneliness and misery, but they were also part of a very rich land and a powerful Hidden Village. Sakura didn't go through anything like Sasuke or Naruto, which is worse in the sense that she was more naive than them.
Their world falls apart when they meet Haku and Zabuza, when they realize this is not s fairytale of good heroes and bad villains, but people who had to become violent to survive.
Like Kakashi said, the only reason he and Zabuza are trying to kill each other is because they were paid to do so. Zabuza works for Gato, Kakashi for Konoha, that's it. Kakashi didn't want to kill Haku and Haku didn't want to kill any of them, but the Naruto world is old and messy, the customs and the means to survive are others.
Shinobis are no heroes. They're mercenaries, they act as the military force for the strongest nations. They are tools and weapons. It's not advanced in any sense, so many years after the Warrant Era and the world was just as cruel and wild. People with kekkei genkais were forced to practice that violence to protect themselves, like Haku, Sasuke and Neji. People with bad luck like Naruto and all the jinchurikis were the same. People like Sakura, who loved and cared for those others, devoted their lives to joining the fight, to try and protect the ones dear to them.
That's why the final conversation of Team 7 —the one after the events of the bridge that ended with Zabuza and Haku dead— went the way it did. The members of Team 7 weren't happy with the reality of the shinobi life. Naruto even ended up saying that he would make his own ninja way, basically denying such reality and promising to break the traditional ways that kept all shinobis chained to violence, fated to kill each other.
Just look at it:

Sakura: ... But still... Master Kakashi...
Kakashi: Hmm~~?
Sakura: ... I can't help wondering. Were those two right about what a ninja should be?
Kakashi: A Shinobi shouldn't be concerned with a reason for her own existence... It is important merely that we exist as a tool for our homeland to use in whatever way they need. That's as true for us in Konohagakure as it for any ninja anywhere else.
Naruto: Is that really what becoming a full-fledged ninja's gonna be about? I don't like the sound of it!

Sasuke: Do you really feel that way, master Kakashi?
Kakashi: Well... No. And that's why all we ninja live our lives with that ideal always bubbling beneath the surface of our minds, disturbing us. ... Like it did Zabuza ... And the boy.

Naruto: That's it. I've made up my mind! I am going to create my own nindo— my own ninja path. My own destiny!
This arc plants the seeds of what should be the rest of Naruto and Naruto Shippuden. Team 7 is frustrated and they don't agree with the tradition. None of them, not even Kakashi. Naruto promises to be the change, to make his own destiny.
Sadly, it doesn't happen. The manga changes its tone halfway through. Naruto ends up becoming part of such tradition and he ends up being the fated reincarnation, the chosen one. His destiny is not his exactly and his own ninja path gets lost in the way, replaced by a hollower desire to become Hokage. Naruto doesn't evolve to deeply question the order of his world or his society.
Instead, Sasuke occupies his place and the story turns him into an antagonist (someone who wants the direct opposite of the protagonist, someone who is on the way of the protagonist to reach his goal). The story radicalizes the dream that was so innocently spoken in this chapter. It also ends up chaining Kakashi to the same system, uses him as someone to fill the Hokage role until Naruto is old enough and then gives Naruto the hat, forgetting the themes set on the Land of the Waves arc.
What started as Team 7 fighting corruption and people sick with power while trying to help the victims of the system, understanding that their world is made of greys and not moral absolutes, ends up becoming a kids tale of ninjas = heroes and aliens = villains. All the complexities of politics get softened by Black Zetsu's manipulations and Kaguya's existence.
It wouldn't be a reach to say that the Land of the Waves belongs to a very different type of manga, one that never got its continuation.

Kakashi Hatake
You hated how full of himself he was. He was always talking down to people, to his teammates and so-called friends. He goes out of his way to show people up no matter how inappropriate the situation may be.
He hated that you always stuck up for people he considered weak. He hated how much time and energy you put into helping others instead of focusing on your own training. He hated that you had so much potential, yet seemed to waste it at every opportunity.
As time went on and you were forced into each other's inner circles, your occasional arguments became a constant bicker. It got even worse when you were assigned to his ANBU team. You questioned his every move and fought every decision he made.
In return, he always gave you the least desirable night shifts. He'd make you write all the reports, saying something about needing to learn to respect your elders (he's only a few months older than you).
Once you were put in charge of your own team, things quieted down. Not because either of you had mellowed out, but because you didn't cross paths as often anymore.
Because of how rarely you saw him, you always made sure to make your brief encounters worth it. You had practically written a list of insults to throw his way. He returned the same energy with out hesitation.
Eventually, after his genin team had gone their separate ways and you had finally retired from ANBU, you had a seemingly infinite amount of time to rekindle your rivalry with him.
He always seemed to be heading in the same direction as you were. It didn't matter if you were on your way to the Hokage's office, the shops, or meeting up with someone- he was always there.
You tried to fight with him like the good old days, but it was different now that you were grown adults. Maybe the ungodly amount of trauma combined with the wedge distance had created in your odd relationship had finally put an end to your petty war.
Thinking back, maybe this is what it had been all along, and your stupid kid brain was too proud to admit what was really going on.
Your arguing had turned into kissing the moment he stepped through your apartment door. Things moved quickly, expert hands doing away with endless layers of Jonin uniforms in a rushed attempt to feel more of each other.
It felt right. Like the decades of tension had finally come to a head and you were being forced to deal with it in the most animalistic way possible.
"I hate you."
Your mumbling between desperate kisses. He doesn't acknowledge you immediately, opting to instead lift you by your ass so your legs could wrap around him. He pushes you against the wall, pressing his clothed election right against your womanhood.
"I hate you, too."
Neither of you acknowledges the elephant in the room, that the word you're looking for isn't actually hate. But that's beyond your cloudy minds right now.
Shikamaru Nara
Shikamaru has never really bothered with social pleasantries or subjected himself to cater to what people like and dislike. In fact, he often chastised people for caring what others think.
He always commented about what you wore, how well groomed you were, and the overall effort you put into your appearance each day.
You hated listening to it, which is why you always did your best to avoid him.
It wasn't even about you specifically. You hated hearing how rudely he'd shut down Ino when she would ramble on about anything. You hated when he complained about how loud Naruto and Kiba were despite knowing that they're just excitable people. You hated hearing the damn near sexist remarks he'd make about how stupid people were for giving any shots about how they looked.
It was annoying. It didn't seem to phase anyone else anymore, but that almost made it worse.
You were at your breaking point. Just one comment away from losing your composure and you prayed to God you'd be able to refrain from saying anything too harsh.
But alas, Kakashi had assigned you to yet another mission with him- the sixth one just this month.
At least he waited until you were at the Inn before he started up with you. You honestly don't know why he let you shower first if it was going to be such an issue.
"Finally. I thought you'd be in there forever."
"What the Hell is your problem with me?"
He paused in his tracks. He wasn't expecting you to say anything to his usual grumbling, and especially didn't expect it to be so hostile.
"You always take forever in the bathroom."
"It was twenty minutes. You'll live."
"It wouldn't be that long if you didn't bother with all the extra shit you use."
"Why is it such a problem that I care about what I look like? I don't ever involve you in it and yet you're always talking about it."
He rolled his eyes, about to blow off whatever you were saying, but you started up again before he could.
"All you ever do is bitch and whine and moan about dumb shit that doesn't concern you. I like to look nice. I like wearing clothes that compliment my figure and putting time into the health of my hair and skin. It's not the end of the world, so shut the fuck up about it already."
You walked past him and lay in one of the twin beds, tired from the journey and pissed about your teammate's usual poor behavior.
He didn't say anything. He continued with what he was going to do before the argument and carried on like nothing had happened.
He kept any conversations strictly professional for the duration of the mission, something you were ecstatic about.
It wasn't until a few days after you returned home that you heard from him. He showed up at your apartment unprompted, looking irritated and slightly flustered.
"After talking with my team, it may have come to my attention that I might be kind of an ass."
You invited him in, curious as to what he had to say. He admitted that he had never been called out on it. Most people don't take him too seriously and he may have gotten a bit too comfortable voicing every thought that crossed his mind.
Although he had mostly soothed any nerves you had, you still decided he owed you.
You dragged him into your room, sat him at your vanity, and laughed when he groaned. You pulled out all the stops for him. You took him through your entire routine start to finish and when you were done, you asked him hiw it felt.
He hated that it felt nice. He hated that he suddenly realized how dry his skin usually was and how clean he suddenly felt. He would never fully admit that to you, though.
Him showing up at your apartment the next day, conveniently around the time you usually started these things, was all the confirmation you needed that he no longer deemed it a waste of time.
Sasuke Uchiha
He hated going to the Hokage's office, not because he was still in the thick of earning his freedom after the war, but because he hated Kakashi’s assistant.
You annoy him. He hates that you so confidently push his buttons. He hates that you're just a civilian, but you've been given so much authority over him. It was an unfit existence for the last Uchiha.
You enjoyed messing with him. He would grumble when given his assignment and you made sure to mock him with a playful pout. You'd check in with the ANBU watching over him to make sure he was behaving. You always used that word- behaving. As if he were a child.
Unfortunately for Sasuke, Kakashi isn't in the village right now, meaning he's stuck taking orders from you. He swears Kakashi picked you to oversee him intentionally, knowing how much it would bother him.
He's sitting next to you, helping you go through seemingly endless piles of paperwork. He wasn't sure if this was better than all the D-rank missions he'd been assigned lately, but he begrudgingly accepted the change of pace.
He glances at you through his peripherals. The sun is just going down, the orange light illuminating your soft features. Your usual bratty expression was replaced with a more peaceful one.
This was most likely just as much a break for you as it was for him. He wasn't oblivious to the way you had to reel Kakashi in every day, damn near having to tie him to his chair to get anything done.
"You can go home. I'll finish up here and we can resume tomorrow."
He didn't argue, thankful for relief from the horrifically tedious task. As he was leaving the building, he suddenly got this feeling in his gut that he should stay.
Of course, not wanting to do more paperwork than he was required to, he ignored the feeling and carried on.
He should've stayed. Just an hour after he left, while you were packing up for the night, the tower was raided by rogue nin.
The alarm sounded in the village, immediately calling all available shinobi. Bee, the ANBU assigned to him, gave him permission to lend a hand, and off they went to the tower.
He teleported himself to Kakashi’s office, knowing you would most likely be in there or at least somewhere near. What he wasn't expecting, however, was you standing over a body, kunai in hand and blood splattered across your body.
"Y/N?"
You didn't move, couldn't move. He reached forward, tugged the blade out of your shaky grip, and let it fall to the floor. You let him, not really in the mood to fight any more than you had to right now.
"Is he dead?"
Your question caught him off guard.
"I've never killed anyone before."
Ah. Civilian. Right. Sure, you belonged to a Shinobu village and even worked under the Kage, but that was vastly different than being on the front lines.
He thought for a second. Was he in any sort of position to be responsible for you at the moment? Should he hand you off to one of the other nin and return home?
"Cover your eyes."
It took a minute for his words to register in your hazy mind, but once they did you obeyed. If there was one thing you knew would benefit you, it would be allowing him to take the lead for now.
He put his hand between your shoulder blades and guided you through the hallways, down the stairs, and away from the tower completely. He glanced around, but couldn't find Bee, so he opted to take you back to his apartment. It would cause a lot less trouble if he was where he was supposed to be after all.
At home, he sat you down in the tub and turned on the water. He left you there, letting all the blood loosen from your skin. He returned a moment later, setting a stack of clothes down on the counter and grabbing a rag from the cabinet.
Neither of you spoke as he gently scrubbed your face. When he was done, he got a little bit of shampoo and worked all the red out of your hair.
You were slowly coming out of your daze. It was nice being brought out by something kind and comforting. It was almost enough to distract you from the night's events. Almost.
When he was done, he handed you the cloth, telling you to finish up and see him when you're done. You nodded, standing up and undressing when the door closed. You noticed how clean the water ran, most likely due to how thoroughly the Uchiha had taken care of you.
When you stepped out of the tub, you noticed the clothes on the counter. Upon closer inspection, they were similar to the ones he was wearing now- a t-shirt and sweats.
You joined him in the adjacent bedroom where he waited patiently. He all but forced you into his bed, shutting down all of your protests. When he went to leave the room, you quickly grabbed the fabric of his shirt to stop him.
"Please stay."
He didn't fight you. He walked around to the other side of the bed and sat down, leaning against the headboard and staring blanky in front of him.
You were thankful for the comfort of simply not being alone. Not after tonight, when so much had happened and the trauma was still fresh in your mind.
He tried telling himself that this was not a personal act, but instead one that would aid his village. But who was he kidding? He was realizing you weren't all that terrible and he had just allowed his angst brain to manipulate him into thinking so.
