do you ever wonder, even with how fucked up it already is, if milligan sanitized his story for the kids
#on one hand show curtain seems a lot more....#less the type to straight up torture? like his reaction to the straitjackets and all#he's the more type to convince himself he's doing them a kindness#even as what he's doing is actually arguably worse#but its like. you know. mental manipulation/brainwashing.#ANYWAY but like on the other hand#a) whatever the case unless milligan is lying/exaggerating which seems very unlikely to me#milligan WAS tied up and interrogated--could be like hildegarde billingsley not too alarming right?--BUT#he was also hit/beaten#and 'what do you remember? what do you remember?' while being hit is pretty different than the interrogation of hildegarde who was all#loopy. and plus their techniques have probably developed and smoothed out over the past decade#b) i have this little idea in my head that i havent properly developed into a fully rounded thing#maybe once curtain DID have more vicious henchmen#like mccracken. and maybe it went too far and he learned his lesson#or maybe it just made him a little uncomfortable and he ended up phasing them out (or making them helpers which. actually constitutes some#worrying issues now that all the helpers have been freed/remember everything)#and now he has people like jeepers#ANYWAYwhatever the case#milligan describes something already pretty horrifying#waking up with a metal contraption on his head. strapped in#being hit and interrogated and chained and jailed#escaping . running. falling off a cliff into the ocean#barely getting to shore alive#living off moss and nature#being treated like garbage on the streets--shunned and unbelieved#do you ever think it might have gotten worse than he said? things he wouldn't have told a group of kids?#he still told them most of it didnt sanitize it entirely bc he wanted them to understand the danger & not treat them like idiots#but like. what if. what if#milligan wetherall#the mysterious benedict society

#@ comment directed to me in a tag. i have not talked abt them anywhere publicly but if u were deep enough in the paint in 2020ish theyre#like not super surprising. i think i wanna get back around to the trolls in my reread (so itll b a while) before i say anthing solid#just so i can go in w intent to pay closer attention again but like#overall have a low opinion on most the troll boys insofar as i see that the narrative seems to also not care for them. they seem to exist#to serve narrative purposes & end up discarded when no longer relevant. ie they dont end up very interesting and thus i view#many fans with suspicion when they have 'boys disease' ie having an outsized focus on the boys of the story despite hs being by the end#an extremely female dominated text with a lot to say about masculinity as an opressive force#tavros and gamzee are the biggest bugbears here (only really beaten out in eyebrow raising by cronus and the male dancestors)#on account of fans of them often downplaying gamzee's misogyny that is core to his role as a charismatic cult leader (or worse#sending trans women death threats when they made the factual assesment that gamzee was written to be a weird misogynist calling it#character assassination etc. man 2020 was wild.) tavros mostly just ends up being an accessory to this crime tbh. though his genuinely#complicated relationship w vriska oft being flattened to villify vriska + an inability to actually read what tavros Says...#like. if you get rid of tavros' quirk. stammering and all. and read his lines. he's kind of fucking rude? and yeah its alternia they all ar#but i have my hesitancies wrt how people seem to infantilise him (a disabled character) to the point of ignoring his dialogue and flaws#when one of tavros' core conceits (u can argue if this is . like. something hussie should have stayed out of. like its not their lane) is#that shitty ppl online will be assholes but will be allowed to get away with it due to unrelated disability. which like. it was 2010 ig#but this is hit upon again with mituna being distinctly a 4 channer with real brain damage and speech issues & all his friends letting him#get away with shit he still clearly has the cognitive capacity to know is wrong. its very messily handled but. i dont rlly like tavros ig.#will b amazed if tumblr doesnt eat these tags i went on wayy too long. but im not putting this in plaintext for obvi reasons#lucabytereads

I just. Love how delighted Toriel is that Kris has a friend, and doesn't really care who said friend is. In Chapter 1, the second Kris says that they're hanging out with a friend, Toriel's tune changes immediately and she says Kris can continue hanging out with said friend as long as they please. In Chapter 2, when she meets Susie, she doesn't get judgmental in any way, and all their interactions are just really cute. Baking together, punning together, letting her stay over...
Like, with how Toriel is characterized in Deltarune compared to Undertale, I feel like a lot of people make her...meaner, I guess. They take how she acts around Asgore, and use that to inform how she'd act in other situations. But she doesn't think Susie is a bad influence on Kris at all, she's really happy to welcome Susie into the house and meet her! It's adorable! So I don't think she's quite as strict and judgmental as some assume, or if she is, her desire for Kris to be happy overrides her 'knows what's best for you' tendencies. She's clearly not fully aware of Kris' situation, but is aware enough to be concerned, and to let some things (like waking them up, letting them wander Hometown after school, or devouring an entire pie) slide if it means they're safe and happy.
...On the flip side. It's also kinda sad. Kris isn't really hated by anyone in Hometown, but between being the only human, the situation their parents are in, Asriel(who they're closest with) moving away, the emptiness of their room and how they sometimes lock themself in the bathroom for lengths of time, the way Berdly, MK, and Snowdrake talk about them at various points...it's not so hard to understand why Toriel's so happy and relieved that there's someone outside herself and Asriel Kris has a positive relationship with. They used to be friends with Noelle, and they seem on pretty good terms with Catti, but I don't think they're quite friends right now. So it's also somewhat sad. Susie is probably Kris' first friend in a very long time. But maybe Noelle and Berdly can also become genuine friends, too.

Porsche jokes about hitting Vegas one time during a meeting. He doesn't realize he fucked up right away, not until Vegas gathers himself, smiles and says "Yeah, you'd like that, wouldn't you?", all while his skin is buzzing underneath the calm demeanor he's presenting. The reason Porsche even understands he said the wrong thing is because Vegas glances at Kinn as he says those words, who's sitting on the opposite side of the table, silent. Pete is also there, and he's the person Porsche checks first before he clears his throat and apologizes to Vegas. Pete is too busy staring at Vegas' tense back to notice Porsche's attention.

While the whole city of Naples was asleep, Michele was sitting at the pier under the crescent moon and cloudless sky. The night was unusually quiet, and all that could be heard was the sound of the waves lazily going back and forth against the shore.
“How does it feel, Vincé?” Asked Michele in monotone, after Vincenzo sat down next to him.
“What do you mean?”
“Your wedding with Arianna. Have you already forgotten?”
“No, I haven't.” Vincenzo looked up to the sky, spotting a few stars. “But I'm not really enthusiastic about it, you know? I barely know her.” He added, shrugging, turning towards Michele, staring at his icy blues.
The other man turned around and sighed.
“I think she feels the same, too.” Continued Vincenzo, gazing at the sea. “We're getting married just to please our parents, after all.”
Michele stayed in silence.
“What's wrong, Miché?”
“Nothing, it's just...” Michele exhaled. “I don't know what I'm going to do after you get married and move there. Maybe I should just... Get it over with already.” He suddenly got up, but Vincenzo stopped him, seizing his arm.
“Don't even try to think about it!” The blond raised his voice.
Michele stared at him, saying nothing, the corners of his eyes filling with tears.
Vincenzo moved his hand to Michele's. “Ti amo, Miché. I always will.”
The raven-haired man brought his fingers to Vincenzo's cheek, before the blond got closer and pressed his lips against Michele's.
---One week before the wedding---
“Ciao.” Said a boyish familiar voice.
“Ciao...” Michele sighed, without diverting his gaze from the sea. “How's the nose, Vincé?”
“Not as bad as the other day, I think it's healing.” Informed Vincenzo, sitting down next to Michele.
“It's all my fault.” Murmured Michele. “I'm sorry.” He turned towards the blond, whose hazel eyes were glistening under the moonlight.
Vincenzo frowned. “No way! Why would this be your fault?”
“You got beaten up by your father because he saw you hanging out with me! The real question is, how is this not my fault?” Michele's blue eyes began to become watery. “I should just... We should just stop seeing each other, before one of us ends up dead!”
Vincenzo exhaled. “Miché, don't say that...” He rested his hand on Michele's shoulder. Michele took Vincenzo's hand on his and squeezed it.
A gunshot was heard in the distance.
“We should go home. Now.” The dark haired man said, looking at the blond boy in the eyes.
---Two nights before the wedding---
Michele was feeling restless: it was three in the morning and Vincenzo still had to show up. He was shivering, despite it being a summer's night in Naples. He felt like something bad had happened to his lover.
He shot a glance back at the coast: he never felt so happy to be proven wrong, as he realized that Vincenzo was running towards him.
Michele got up and pulled the blond boy in his arms, hugging him and kissing his face all over. Vincenzo squeezed him just as tight. “Sorry for being late. I was worried someone was following me and I took the longer way.”
“Grazie a Dio you're here, Vincé.” The other whispered.
“Listen,” Vincenzo detached himself from Michele, “I am so tired of living like this.”
Michele blinked, a worried expression painted on his face.
“I don't want to get married to Arianna, I can't take being a criminal anymore...” Continued the blond, “and more importantly, I can't stand being away from you for just one more minute.”
“Vincé, where are you going with this?”
“I want to run away with you, Miché!” Vince took Michele's hands in his.
“But where?! You know they're gonna find us no matter where we go!”
“Not if we take the cargo ship to America.”
Michele widened his eyes.
Vincenzo grinned.
“You're crazy, you hear me?” Michele threw his arms up in the air. “Pazzo!”
“So, are you in?”
Michele hesitated. “If I had to choose between staying here without you and the possibility of dying at sea with you…” He said in the end, smiling. “I still would choose you.”
---One night before the wedding---
The first sun rays of the morning had still to come out as Vincenzo and Michele embarked on the first cargo ship to the United States of the day, hoping for a new chance at life.

The french government literally got denounced by the UN for its use of weapons and ultra-violence against protesters#just a couple days ago there was a huge protest against an installation that would ruin us ecologically#in a continuation to the pension protests#the cops fired 4000 grenades in two hours.#several of those aimed directly at protestors. which is illegal and very dangerous and can KILL#40 heavily wounded. two people are between life and death.#someone lost an eye. a journalist got hit by a grenade in the leg and is gonna be out of work for 2 months.#one is still in a coma. it's been five days. he might die.#it took two hours for the ambulance to get there for him cuz it got blocked by the cops. which is extremely illegal. but they're cops.#and this is one protest but it's like that all the time#last week a woman got her thumb torn off by a grenade shot directly at her#there literally is a recurring joke among cops about 'losing hands' cuz of the sheer amount of ppl who got theirs torn off like this#i sympathize with americans your cops are fucking nightmares.#but so are ours. we get beaten up and mangled and killed. but we're still out there#stop pretending we only riot the way we do cuz we have it easy. i'm legit going to kick your ass#i didn't distribute eye drops to my fellow teargassed protestors last week in my tiny ass city to be told we play on easy mode#anyway. grabbing my medic kit and going out to protest again in an hour. what will You do?

#being a kid and watching your friends get beaten by their folks is horrifying but also clinically interesting#like. my friend sasha's dad didn't seem to know we were there. he'd just casually backhand him whenever he was annoyed#my uncle would hit my cousins with whatever was at hand—a shoe‚ a belt‚ a notebook#a few kids were taken into the other room to get their licks (out of either mercy or tact)#but there was always a sense of theatrics#i knew a girl whose parents owned a dance studio and when she'd fuck up a move they'd smack her around in front of the class together#i'm sure it was to demonstrate their tough love strategy to the other parents watching the practice—the girl did end up in a famous troupe#so i'm sure there were plenty of parents who came away feeling like it was a good disciplinary tactic#adventures in c-ptsd#david milch

You know, I didn't recognize that the "dead oc" was her until I saw her actual name, because in my mind she's still alive and running around as a vital part of the ten commandments. I haven't done anything but gently put her in the background of the daydreams with a cookie of her choice yet, because knowing she was Zeldris's only friend on top of being her own lovable self and now learning that she was a like sister to them both- my HEART 😭
i cannot touch that yet. it is holy. but one day, if I have your approval, I swear I'll make her a happy ending. bc that's what I've been doing since I was little for tragic narratives (Cough, cough, Darkstalker Legends, if you know you know) and now's as good a time as any to step up my game. just the prospect gives my heart the zoomies
