Hi! I'm Calem; yes, that guy. After my short stint as sitting champion, I decided to surrender my title and work under Professor Sycamore.

So now I'm here to talk about research and stuff, I guess. Though I feel people will be much more interested in my trainer escapades. Or the bird... haha...

this takes place a couple years after the games- id say calem is about 18-20, and he was 16 during the game events. he sat as champion for about half a year before realizing it wasnt what he actually wanted to do, with diantha choosing to take back the spot. go ahead, ask him about yveltal. i know you want to. he will be vaugely aware of the events of the other games, except bw/b2w2, which he has a much deeper knolwedge of due to living in unova for most of his life

sapient pokemon are welcome, though calem will be confused and a bit doubtful. legendady pokemon likely wont be interacted with, sorry, :(. calem is aware of the multiverse but not knowledgeable on it

The true Calem run is coming along great, I only have one spot to fill in my team and I just got through the power plant!

Now regarding actually writing the Kalos vs amour story, I want to, I’d LOVE TO. It’s something younger me wanted so badly to do- however I am not exactly confident in my writing.

I’ve dabbled under a few sites with a lot of different “pen names” if you will, and I’ve never been too fond of my own work. I struggle with coming off as redundant when I use one word too much without realizing till after the fact, but in my defense! I’m entirely self taught with reading and writing so It’s surprising I’m even a little bit literate.

I can’t say I have the confidence to get a beta reader either as that would mean letting someone read my messy work which- yeah that kinda makes my skin crawl. So it could be a great exercise for me! But it would be a big step. I haven’t publicly written anything since 2019 and it was all small fandom stuff.

But I do have a rough list of story beats? Kinda? Ideas really.

Serena leaves for her journey on a whim to see ash, but in the process she neglected to tell anyone other than her mother. Which means Calem would have no clue where she went until he went to Grace. The dialogue “I was starting to worry until I saw you on pokevision” definitely dings around my skull a bit.

He was a member of the summer camp team with Shauna Trevor and Tierno, he was just too shy to talk to Serena again after she up and left without warning, especially seeing her proximity to a guy who is wearing HIS EXACT JACKET

Yeah no I’m making that a thing, the fact him and Ash dress nearly identically is going to freak him out in some way.

When I envision this as animated scenes, I can see him as a faceless character watching from the sidelines. Obscured but noticeable, coming to a head at the end of the episode where there’s a scene between him a Shauna. In a cabin kitchen at camp, It reveals him and Shauna specifically are traveling together. His face still unseen she’d pry at him for information on why he was so distant and why he hid from Serena. He’d dodge the question with an ever brooding “I don’t know” and the silence would linger as whatever midnight snack is being prepared. A camera angle change and turning to face Shauna for the first time during the conversation it ends with a single line. “Who was that guy she was with anyways?”

We would then see him again officially in a later episode with the appearance of Shauna, he and Serena finally reconnect over an awkward apology for her sudden absence. He’s familiar with Serena, his behavior is starkly different around her to anyone else- even Shauna. And while it might not peek anyone else’s concern it would get Bonnie’s gears turning, the kid is perceptive and comes to the conclusion Calem likes Serena, but that also turns into distrust thanks to Calem’s inherent standoffish nature. She would recognize him as “no good”

Also insert plot of Ash being super hyped like “oh yeah! New rival! Let’s go!” And Calem being violently uncomfortable around this hyper short stack who is dressed just like him and traveling with his run away neighbor-

If you couldn’t tell, I’d have no clue how to pov this. A third person pov makes the most sense but with a shift in focus from our main cast to Calem and Shauna- idk-

I’ve put more thought into this as actual anime episodes rather than written pages, so it’s all art stuff in my head and might translate weird to a fanfic

Listen, I hate to cringepost on main, but I really want to talk about the XY rivals because they have SO much potential and I love them and I will not rest until I spread my obsessive thoughts with others so I'm gonna talk about how I would change this stupid friend group.

Just to set a standard, I'm gonna write this with the female protag in mind because I always pick her but also so I don't have to constantly bounce between saying Calem (or Serena if you pick the male protag) because that would gonna get annoying real quick. So assume whenever I say Calem you could switch in Serena.

SO. Starting off, I think the core of the rivalship should be between the protag, Calem, and Shaunna, reminiscent of the BW rivals. Calem, in general, is fine. He's the rival who wants to become the champion and is the strongest in the group, other then the protag. Personally, I would probably change his team comp a bit to reflect this, but that would be for a separate post. I do think he could use a bit more pizazz, though, because as is he's a little bland. Also, give him his hat back. He looks so naked and cursed without it.

Then there's Shaunna, aka the original gay bitch. Shaunna doesn't care about becoming champion or fighting gym leaders, instead opting to get stronger at her own pace while focusing on the cute little side activities, and it's all good and fun for awhile, but she starts to get more insecure as things start getting real with Team Flare. She starts feeling like she's fallen far behind everyone else in terms of strength and like she can't really do anything to help in a dire situation, despite actually being helpful in her own way (getting the grunt blocking the entrance of the pokeball factory to move, bringing in a machine from Clemont to get further in Team Flare's base, etc). This isn't really any different from how she already is, but I think there could be a heavier emphasis on her feeling insecure about this, but also give her the change to gradually overcome that insecurity. Also, bring back contests, because she's clearly made for them and it could be, like, her main thing she gets really good at.

Then there's Trevor and Tierno, and I think they should be more like friends rather then rivals. Have them be assistants for Sycamore or something (since Trevor really cares about the pokedex and Tierno brings you your starter). Let them be rivals towards each other rather than rivals with the protag. Let them kiss, I don't fucking care. This is the gay friend group featuring Calem as the one straight friend, and it's perfect.

I really like the idea of Trevor, since he cares about completing the pokedex, which makes him a stand out from other rivals in the series. I'm pretty sure whenever you compare dexs in game he always loses, though, which I think is lame. Let him have a certain amount of pokemon he's caught instead and make it an actual comparison. You could do some fun stuff with him, too, like have him tell the player about rare pokemon in an area or strange evolution methods to help fill in their pokedex, since he has pokemon like that on his team (orange Florges which only has a 1% encounter rate in flowers and Goodra who needs to evolve in the rain).

Tierno is another example of why contests should be brought back, because he's, like, a performer. Again, let him be more of a friend then a rival, who's just here to hang out and have fun. Actually, I think he could be kind of like a foil to Shaunna, in that he cares about the cute little side actives while getting stronger at his own pace rather then collecting gym badges, but have him embrace that. Have him be the one to help Shaunna overcome her own insecurities, and then THEY can become contest rivals. And if the player did high ranking contests, they could face off against them. It would be cute damnit, let me have this.

hi hello internet!! i feel like ranting so here. A pokemon au :) or, well, this one is probably more so "alternate timeline" if you're familiar with the more intricacies of fandom language. (then again this IS tumblr) ANYWHO. the main jist is "hmm. what if the whole shit with the ultimate weapon actually did make the protag (calem in this case) immortal" but with some body horror twists because i can :) more specific details under the cut as i do not wish to bombard someone's dash with my autistic ramblings

So the AU is dubbed "The Curse of Fate". originally wished to go with "the curse of life" but that. i feel like that could get misinterpreted into something else so the curse of fate it is!! As mentioned before, the big major change is that Calem gets fuckin' BEAMED:tm: by the Ultimate Weapon underneath Geosenge Town because dude didn't get out fast enough. He wasn't in the vicinity, no. directly under it. (i will note that calem is 14-ish at the time in this AU, for future reference) After a few years of "everything is totally back to normal yup yup" he kind of realizes "oh shit i am not aging like a normal human boy this is fucked up man" and not wanting to watch his friends and family die around him, ( as well as not wanting the government to find out about his predicament) he decides that he will consciously go missing. a slow and vigorous process so it isn't too shocking. staying out later, contacting people less, the stuff. eventually he does do it, and leaves his hometown for good. he travels around for a bit, specifically to Paldea early on to purchase one of those portable box things so he doesn't have to go into pokemon centers. He is just. a forest goblin, basically. living off whatever he can find. trying his best not to be seen, especially in the earlier times. he gets a bit more cocky about going out in public as the years go on. always wearing a shit ton of layers because people don't pay much attention to you that way. and as it turns out, he really likes just observing things. he does eventually encounter AZ, and things are tense between them. calem feels like he's being lectured all the time about everything since it didn't take much for AZ to realize Calem's predicament AZ on the other hand is just trying to make sure Calem doesn't fuck things up for himself and is giving advice in. his. own kind of "how the fuck do i talk to people again" way. now one may wonder "hey where's the body horror" and that, my friend, comes in with this whole headcanonned string of logic. said logic being that the energy calem was zapped by was pure life energy. and any living being can only handle so much of this. so this energy needs to find a way to "escape" to bring one's body back to equilibrium. this being in the form of crystalized half-elipsoid formations appearing on calem. unfortunately, no idea quite yet on how it will develop past that. but a main "drive" for calem is to try and fix this before it causes irreversible damage. and that's the jist!!! there are. a lot more details but this post is already super long so if anybody wants another giant rant post uh. idk, tell me lmao. finally, here's calem's design!!!

"No, I--" Serena tried shaking her head, but was subsumed in a hug anyway. She allowed it.

"It'll be alright, Serena." Hilda patted Serena's back. "I know that you're just having the worst of luck when it comes to doing interstellar stuff with Leaf, but there's no need for despair, bud."

"I know, but--" Serena sighed. She hugged Hilda a lot more tightly this time. "How do you expect me to feel when I keep seeing either dead versions of me or living versions of Calem? Leaf and I even managed to find him in a damn Cerulean Cave of all places like --- like what was he doing there? Just there to haunt me?"

"It--it's just like my past wishes to haunt me. Like it wishes that I were dead instead of him--"

"Serena.... Don't be like that." Hilda matched Serena's firmness. "Fate and destiny is but a load of horse shit. You're alive because of your perseverance. Calem may be gone, but he died befriending a Legendary Pokémon and spending time with it. Without him, neither you nor Lilian would be how you two are today."

"...."

"Serena. Look at me." Hilda let go of the hug and had the two see eye to eye. "I know that it's tough -- being constantly reminded of him... but even if it's some sign from the cosmos... it doesn't matter. Our Calem may be gone, but you know how he is.... He wouldn't want to see you break over him, right? You were his rival and his girlfriend at the time. He always was there to try to see that you got better, right?"

"...Right...." Serena was sniffling."

"So, do better! Improve! Even if the cosmos wants you dead, tell them to fuck off and make your own fate! Do it for him... for your friends... for yourself... and when you see another Calem, stand your ground and use that as an anchor for your improvement."

Serena nodded along. She needed time to process, but she could already tell that Hilda was right. Maybe she needed to focus on improvement and framing -- that way, she can make her own destiny.

i pretty much have husbands all over the world of pokemon. i have played these games since i was literally 5 years old, since literally gen 1. i had a crush on Brock. i wanted him to love me like he loves officer jenny and nurse joy.

Given the Champion event in Masters today, I wanted to talk a bit about Gen 6 themes and stuff I find really interesting about it now, and what made me enjoy the direction they took this for Calem.

I’m going to be speaking from the perspective of “player character is Serena,” given that seems to be Masters’ selection of who the protagonist is.

XY is known as a pretty easy game, and this was largely considered a negative point.  This includes from me.  But I think that, to some extent, many of the challenges being easier can be interpreted as meshing thematically, even if it was unintentional.  Serena is better than her peers are virtually everything they’re out to do.  She’s by far the superior trainer, and even dunks on Trevor constantly by having more of the dex completed than he does.  Your friend group, by and large, does nothing for you.  In some situations, they were honestly more annoying to me than anything, and I imagine others felt the same.

Your main villain, Lysandre, is descended from the ancient kings, and is kind of up his own ass about it.  He’s rather full of himself, making grand statements about the state of the world based on his own perspective.  The world is ugly, and something needs to be done to fix it, because that’s how he views it.  It is his perspective, but more significantly, it is his choice.  Choice is a big thing Masters has played up with Lysandre, and I think it makes sense to do so, given the most significant event of XY.

It’s actually just before your direct confrontation with him, when you meet Xerosic.  You know what the weapon is, what it does, and what the threat level is.  And you, only you, are presented with a choice.  Press one of the buttons.  One will deactivate the machine forever.  One will fire it.  I think it’s important to note that, if you choose right, Xerosic activates it anyway, but Lysandre disagrees with this action, stating that he was supposed to let it go and let you win.  Which is weird, right?  Lysandre was willing to let this all go.  His entire plan could be foiled based on a coin flip.  What’s the reason for that?

Because the importance wasn’t in the outcome of your choice, it was that you made a choice at all.  This could always have gone wrong.  Your choice could’ve killed people.  Killed everyone.  While it’s presented as a binary choice, there were other solutions.  You didn’t need to go it alone and make that choice, if you could just...prevent Xerosic from activating it yourself.  I think that’s the really significant thing, is that you were willing to gamble everyone’s lives on this choice.

That feels like Lysandre’s MO.  The problems of the world require great leaders to make difficult choices for everyone’s sake.  It doesn’t really matter what others might think of the situation; you alone have knowledge of the problem, and you alone can fix it.  You are burdened with finding this solution.  You are burdened with your own greatness.

I feel like this mentality is something the protagonist would be easily susceptible to.  After all, you are pretty exceptional.  You’re dominating these challenges across the region like they’re nothing.  Of course you’d feel like you’re hot shit.  You were top dog in your insular friend group, and it turns out you’re still top dog everywhere else.  I think Lysandre’s aim was, in part, to get you coming around to his way of thinking, by playing into that sense of grandiose importance.

But that’s honestly way to severe a direction for a protagonist in a Pokemon game, and never what they’d go for.  So instead, I think Masters focused on the next best thing: what’s it like being someone who really enjoys something that your best friend is better than you at?  What’s it like not being the genius child?

Calem has, effectively, never beaten Serena.  Like all rivals, his life is a string of failures toward his main goal.  And despite being designated as her rival, you’ve...never really kept up.  Not in any meaningful way.  We played that game, we know how easy it is to beat him and everyone else.  So they take that and expand on it.  What if you’re not good enough to really be the rival to this prodigy?  What if you’re just some dude punching outside your weight class?  This person is your friend, they’re important to you, and battling is important to you, but it’s never really felt like you’re on the same level.

I think the best approach is as they handled it.  Dive into the idea of what’s really significant about the battles.  Is it winning?  Self-improvement?  Funsies?  What is it you get out of this, and what significance does the act hold for you and the person you’re battling with?  I really like how they handle it, and frankly I love that Alder’s the one discussing it.  This is exactly the kind of circumstance that’s right up his alley, and it was nice to see Mentor Alder back in action.

And I think that having Calem ultimately beat Serena is great.  I don’t think it was strictly necessary, but it’s the kind of thing where hard work and engagement with something you enjoy, even if it’s not something you excel at, can still lead to great things.  I think that’s really the role of the friend group: to keep the protagonist humble.  Despite being this seeming prodigy, your best friends are a bunch of dorks, and it’s with them that you have the best time.  You probably could go off and do greater things, but these are the people you’ve connected with, and who mean the most to you.  And having them be presented not just as insecure about not being as cool, but being able to work to surpass you and succeed over you?  I think that’s great.

Anyway, Masters Kalos continues to rule.  Can’t wait for the villain arc.

Trevor: Oh not at all, Rena.

Calem: You two are so embarrassing.

Serena: We don’t know the meaning of that word. But Tierno- your choreo was- Oh he’s asleep.

Calem: Let’s let him rest. He was overworking himself over this show and another one. We told him to take it easy but…Guess he didn’t listen. 

Serena: I’ll order his favorites for when he wakes up. 

Trevor: We’ll be honest though…Rena and I have an ulterior motive to this dinner. We still really do wanna treat you guys- buuut…

Serena: Me and Trevs got some word from my friend in Unova and his cousin in Galar- There’s this historical association in the works right now- and they’re sending out invitations for potential members- notable people in past events and professors. These three are for you two and Tierno. Trev and I already sent ours saying we’ll attend the event.

Calem: Trev…You know how much work I have back at the lab. Since Augustine came back, a lot of employees have been slacking off, and I have to pick it back up. I can’t afford a side project like this. 

Shauna: Aaaand…you guys do know I’m an idol for a living? I’m not sure they’d have much use for me.

Trevor: Cal- You’re miserable at the lab. You’ve always talked about branching out with this kinda stuff- but you’ve been limiting yourself. What about everyone else in the lab? You’re not the only one working there- it shouldn’t fall solely on you to fix it all. Augustine could help disperse the pressure of this project- you two can build a trustworthy team for this. Either way- you should be able to study and participate in what you;re interested in- not limit yourself to whatever the lab is doing. If that means taking some personal projects like this one…I just think it would be worth it for you to check it out with us. 

Serena: And Shaunee- that doesn’t mean that they want you any less than us- they’ve already sent us the invites anyways! I know one reason they’re interested in us is because of the legend and myth pokemon we have, but it isn’t the only reason. 

Trevor: There’s a lot you and Teach can do that we can’t do. 

Serena: At least join us to the summit? It’s in Unova, and if anything goes not to our liking..Hey it’s a free vacation.

Tierno: Oop. Well count me in.

Tierno: Because, my dear Cal, it sounds like fun! And really- Do we need more of a reason than that?

Legendverse Rivals Professions as of now:

Blue: Gym Leader, Battle Legend ( runs the battle tree) and " Part Time Professor"

Silver: Pokemon trainer and runs Johto's Battle Tower.

Wally: Takes Anabel's place as head of the tower tycoon.

Barry: Eventually becomes a tower tycoon like his father. Also kinda a professor's aid????? He found himself actually being invested in myths and such, and occasionally helps out Kiran and Cynthia with their research. Genuinely knows his stuff!

Cheren: Canonically a gym leader

Bianca: Ends up being a full fledged pokemon professor.

Hugh: Unovan champion and pokemon rehabilitator

N: Tbh? Not entirely sure? I generally imagine him living a #cottegecore life style with Kamari. That being said, I can see him doing some things. For one, working at a pokemon daycare fits him really well, or like Hugh, a pokemon rehabilitator. He also has the potential to be a pokemon professor- not entirely sure how he would feel about that, but I think he's qualified for it? Pokemon battles are still a thing for him, but not the main focus.

Shauna: Either a pokemon coordinator or showcase star- which ever is allowed in Kalos ( both have a very toxic space, so it's best that only one exists in Kalos), as well as a photographer.

Trevor: A professor's assistant! I do think he took the gym challenge at one point though, given how he mentioned he would do it if he wasn't focused on the Pokedex. I don't think he's particularly interested in being champion though.

Tierno: Like Shauna, possible a coordinator or showcase star. Again, there's some Legendverse lore on how I perceive contests and showcases but this seems like a really good fit for him. He probably even opened his own dance studio too!

No Calem/Serena cause they got replaced with ocs lol.

Hau: Either a kahuna or the champion. I haven't exactly decided on one. I can see a case for each of them, though.

Gladion: Alola Elite 4 member and potential aether foundation president. I say potential because in my au, Gladion isn't thrown into ownership of the Aether Foundation. I want him to be a kid and not handle such responsibility. That, and the fact that Gladion has some trauma of the place, and it wouldn't do him good to just go back there. He might in the future ( he's 22 by SV in my au, so it might be around the time he's considering taking up the mantle)

Lillie: I know she's not an actual rival, but I just wanted to add her lol. Like Gladion, she doesn't involve herself with the Aether Foundation for a long while. But I do see her potentially being a researcher there, as well as a pokemon trainer ( we know that one can be a pokemon trainer professionally).

Hop: Hopscotch <3. A pokemon professor, and works with the ranger guild in Galar. Occasionally goes out on the field for ranger work, but being a professor is his main occupation.

Marnie: A gym leader and fashion designer. She also does music, and would occasionally appear on her brothers band.

Bede: A gym leader and a stage actor, much like Opal( she's alive btw). He, too, dances, mostly ballet( he wears ballet shoes as a part of his gym uniform).

While the three aren't exactly rangers per say ( though Hop is like a professor for the rangers, I guess), but ever since they were established, they do work closely with them, especially Marnie and Bede, given how the routes to their respective towns can be....intense.

Nemona: Definitely becomes top champion. I mean. Come on.

Arven: A chef! Was pretty much stated in the games.

Penny: I can see her working in the leagues i.t department. I think that was said in the game? I don't remember lol.

This is very much a Kalosshipping (Calem x Serena) blog! Mostly fluff and maybe some angst, nothing crazy ("crazy" meaning stuff that shouldn't be happening between two canonical minors)

Assigning the XY Rival Cast Elsword Mains.

This is based on a multitude of factors, from gameplay lore and most importantly; vibes. Going in order of who I think plays the most/longest.

Calem | Chevalier Ciel

I almost gave him Ain (Bluhen) or Rena (Daybreaker) because even I will admit this is very self indulgent as I have been a die hard Lu/Ciel main since day 1 and Calem is a literally me type of character, but then I realized this would give me a future excuse to draw Calem in Royal Guard’s outfit. So we are running with it.

Casual player for the most part, but he’s been playing for nearly a decade so he knows what he’s doing and is (partly) the reason for introducing the game to everyone else.

While Lu/Ciel is a two person character, one being Lu, the other being Ciel, he has a Ciel lean in combat. Preferring the Gunblades over Lu’s claws.

Played solo and mainly did PvE for years until Tierno ruined that fact.

Tierno | Furious Blade Raven

There isn’t another character out there I could see tierno picking up, raven is the obviously cool looking pick and he would want to play the obviously cool character.

Pried the information out of Calem that he played this game and then joined him against Calem’s will.

Then proceeded to spread the information about Calem’s mmo habits to everyone else, quickly forming a long term party.

Is objectively bad at most end game dungeons and PvP, but he is having the time of his life so it’s fine.

Enjoys the elstar mini games more than anything else.

Shauna | Metamorphy Aisha

She would pick up laby as an alt when she released, but she is a magical girl through and through. This is a clear cut pick.

Despite having no experience with a sidescrolling MMO, Shauna is a natural in dungeons. As long as Calem handles the equipment stuff, she can be a handy team carry without even noticing.

Most of her EP goes to making outfits.

Serena | Prime Operator Rose

She would pick up Rose because Rose looks the most like her and that’s Serena’s priority in video games. Making an accurate persona.

She comes in swinging, often playing solo in her downtime.

Pew pew pew, guns, robots, pew pew pew.

Heavy in PvP.

While a lot of her EP goes to costume stuff, she is putting more care into being strong than pretty. But she will do both.

Might splurge a little if a cute collection releases in the item mall, she’s only human.

Might even get an ice burner…probably has a nice house too.

Definitely buys most of her stuff off the board, she is the ultimate farming girl here.

Trevor | Pale Pilgrim Noah

He had a hard time getting into the game up till Noah released.

A little afraid of online games, especially if he’s in a party with random people and messes up.

He still doesn’t play much, still stuck before his final job path.

Overly cautious with item usage.

Panic gameplay.

Everyone enjoys hearing him try his best, it’s very amusing.

Hssjjsnsn I love drawing the sillies, I love the duo, if I knew how to draw Danny I’d draw him too because god damn I want chaotic teen shenanigans between these two, Sam, Tucker, and some other friends mayhaps.

Also I tried to give the eyes a sort of glow idk 🤸

But really even if Calem might seem like the more calm soft one he will without hesitance fuck you up completely, so like, he’s not too against violence at times like this. He will fuck you up and his flexibility both in ghost form and out of it, just helps on his ability to fuck shit up. Stuff like dance classes he had to take as a kid sorta help with keeping him upright lmao

This was extremely lazy, yet for some reason I really wanted to do it. I really just have a lot of fun with the lighting though, that’s what takes the majority of time in my drawings. Both when I make backgrounds, and then when I decide to work way too hard on the shitty lighting

for those of you who write or do OC lore and stuff, do you ever have a moment of clarity where you realize where a specific motif you use comes from? like, psychologically?

Razimyr's story is that his absent dad got into some fucked up evil magic right before he was conceived, and he ended up born with it. when it surfaces, his mom effectively exiles him. decades later, he comes back to his hometown by chance and finds out that he has two siblings who have no idea he even exists, and his mother says he's not her son.

Calem's story is that his parents couldn't handle that he's trans, and after he got Magic Forever HRT from the fey he left town for good. and i was thinking to myself today, wouldn't it be so fucked up if he had to go home for whatever reason and found out that his parents had had another child? a son that they actually wanted and got along with just fine? haha.

and i sat there like... why do i keep doing this one. and i remembered my whole life i'd felt so wrong and so fucked up, that my family would have been much better off without me around. and then my dad got remarried, and they had another kid, and sometimes i would look at them interacting when they didn't know i was up yet and think they looked so normal and see, i was right. and after i ran away from home--sure it was a whole thing and everyone was upset about it--i came back years later as an adult and they were finally a "normal" family now that i was gone.

i can't help but feel like i've been carrying that feeling with me my whole life.
