Listen, I hate to cringepost on main, but I really want to talk about the XY rivals because they have SO much potential and I love them and I will not rest until I spread my obsessive thoughts with others so I'm gonna talk about how I would change this stupid friend group.

Just to set a standard, I'm gonna write this with the female protag in mind because I always pick her but also so I don't have to constantly bounce between saying Calem (or Serena if you pick the male protag) because that would gonna get annoying real quick. So assume whenever I say Calem you could switch in Serena.

SO. Starting off, I think the core of the rivalship should be between the protag, Calem, and Shaunna, reminiscent of the BW rivals. Calem, in general, is fine. He's the rival who wants to become the champion and is the strongest in the group, other then the protag. Personally, I would probably change his team comp a bit to reflect this, but that would be for a separate post. I do think he could use a bit more pizazz, though, because as is he's a little bland. Also, give him his hat back. He looks so naked and cursed without it.

Then there's Shaunna, aka the original gay bitch. Shaunna doesn't care about becoming champion or fighting gym leaders, instead opting to get stronger at her own pace while focusing on the cute little side activities, and it's all good and fun for awhile, but she starts to get more insecure as things start getting real with Team Flare. She starts feeling like she's fallen far behind everyone else in terms of strength and like she can't really do anything to help in a dire situation, despite actually being helpful in her own way (getting the grunt blocking the entrance of the pokeball factory to move, bringing in a machine from Clemont to get further in Team Flare's base, etc). This isn't really any different from how she already is, but I think there could be a heavier emphasis on her feeling insecure about this, but also give her the change to gradually overcome that insecurity. Also, bring back contests, because she's clearly made for them and it could be, like, her main thing she gets really good at.

Then there's Trevor and Tierno, and I think they should be more like friends rather then rivals. Have them be assistants for Sycamore or something (since Trevor really cares about the pokedex and Tierno brings you your starter). Let them be rivals towards each other rather than rivals with the protag. Let them kiss, I don't fucking care. This is the gay friend group featuring Calem as the one straight friend, and it's perfect.

I really like the idea of Trevor, since he cares about completing the pokedex, which makes him a stand out from other rivals in the series. I'm pretty sure whenever you compare dexs in game he always loses, though, which I think is lame. Let him have a certain amount of pokemon he's caught instead and make it an actual comparison. You could do some fun stuff with him, too, like have him tell the player about rare pokemon in an area or strange evolution methods to help fill in their pokedex, since he has pokemon like that on his team (orange Florges which only has a 1% encounter rate in flowers and Goodra who needs to evolve in the rain).

Tierno is another example of why contests should be brought back, because he's, like, a performer. Again, let him be more of a friend then a rival, who's just here to hang out and have fun. Actually, I think he could be kind of like a foil to Shaunna, in that he cares about the cute little side actives while getting stronger at his own pace rather then collecting gym badges, but have him embrace that. Have him be the one to help Shaunna overcome her own insecurities, and then THEY can become contest rivals. And if the player did high ranking contests, they could face off against them. It would be cute damnit, let me have this.

I'm venting, it also stresses me out how some people use 'Serena lesbian' in Headcanon, and what they practically mean is "she's a lesbian so give up on Amourshipping" practically.

Furthermore, the arguments do not take into account that many people dedicate themselves to them for a long time, grew up with this ship, NO HC should be used as an excuse to use this a bad way

I never affected my pearlshipper friends with my Lesbian Dawn Headcanon, they never tagged me or said anything offensive to me (even many of my friends are in favor of the LGBT+ community)

I've seen people mistreating Serena's character for years, I was simply horrified when I was 14 years old to hear for the first time that Serena was obsessed with Ash and bitch, from what I see this behavior HAS NOT CHANGED ANYTHING IN YEARS since 2013(?) DAMN FUCK

I will never forget the disgusting comments about her appearance, about her being a waifu to people who are not minors, I will never forget the disgusting comments from haters or fans about a Journeys outfit or the fact that she wants to be attractive for ASH THE GUY SAME AGE FOR HER (about her Fennekin outfit)

I'm tired of pretending I'm ok with all this, ignoring it and blocking it doesn't take the bad taste out of your mouth.

I hate people who wrote Serena homophobe disgusting me a lot, the people who made her homophobic due to the behavior of haters on other ships made me sick reading it.

You guys act like she's YOUR LITTLE ANGEL NOW THAT SHE IS WHAT "YOU WANT FROM HER" but you never understood a comma, a period, you don't understand her relationship with her Pokemon, with her friends in XYZ or the real nature of her relationship with Ash (ignoring ships and ship scenes) they never understood or saw her as someone who really matters to him, who really cares about him who is open to leaving Ash with whoever he wants (SEE ALL THE TIMES Miette went out with Ash or agreed to go out or stay by someone's side) Don't see how she teaches Ash during his gym battles, don't see how Ash cares for her same way about her Showcases, they didn't even accept their friendship before this controversial issues

Also SERENA X ELLE, SERENA X SHAUNNA, SERENA X MIETTE THERE WAS LONG BEFORE Chloe x Serena or May x Serena I saw this ships forming for the love of God

None of them irritated me as much as current fandom behavior.

Characters

Marco: A young kid who just moved to Kalos from Unova she misses home dearly and isn’t too thrilled to make friends with her two new neighbors or anything really.

Minerva: Marco’s mother She moved the family to Kalos after the events of black and white 1 and 2. She’s hoping that Kalos will maybe be safer.

Shaunna:  one of Marco's new neighbors, cheerful and bubbly. She doesn't know what she wants to do yet and she's hoping her pokemon journey will help her with that decision.

Tierno:  Marco's other neighbor whose talents lie in music his goal is to throw together a band full of pokemon and make it in the music industry. His parents disapprove of his dream, however.

Alain: A mysterious kid and Marco’s rival. His goal is to gather mega stones by any means necessary. He might have a connection to the region's evil team.

Professor Sycamore: The Kalos region’s professor who is studying mega evolution and has asked for 3 trainers to aid him in his research. He seems sad and a bit lonely at times but still keeps an air of hope and encourages his students to follow their dreams. Misses his son.

Lysandre: Lysandre is a CEO and trusted public figure he’s responsible for many of the technology in Kalos and other innovations in the region Lysandre’s goal is to destroy the world and remake it in his image.

Team flare: A group led by Lysandre who remains largely undetected by the authorities. They’re mostly disguised as normal day-to-day people as they carry out team flare’s goal.

Diantha: The Kalos region’s champion she has her hands full with the job on top of her acting career

Blaziken Mask: A superhero whose goal is to uncover what team flare is doing and protect Kalos

You think you know, but you don’t

There are a lot of things you think you know about, perhaps your friends, your family, or even yourself. But the truth is, you don’t actually do. No matter how much you know about someone or something, there’s always a ton of surprises. 

That’s how my story today will begin. 

It was a Friday morning, Diy was flying back to Singapore at 9am that morning, so at 1:30am, Shaunna, Calvin, Diy and I drove to GC to spend the morning there chilling. We were playing a casual game of heads up and the topic was ‘Pokemon’. Calvin was the one guessing. Shaunna hates Pokemon and Diy and I were so confident about this topic. HAHAHAH omg so when the game started, the first Pokemon was

First thing I said was “TEAM ROCKET”. Diy went on with “THE COBRA!”, “SOUNDS LIKE A SPELL!” I was sooooo confused about it, I went “WAIT IS IT?” Guess what! We realised we were describing this lil shit

HAHAHAHAHAHA!

So next Pokemon came out. And we went on with “THE PURPLE SLUG”, “NO, THE PURPLE BALL WITH THE BLACK STUFF COMING OUT!” “WAIT IS IT?????!!!!! NO?! THAT’S KOFFING?!” HAHAHA We had to describe THIS lil shit.... 

But we kept going on about Koffing

Which Pokemon character would most likely read Homestuck?

Penny is the first one that comes to mind. I'm conflicted between her being really into it or reading it ironically, but she's read at least some of it nonetheless.

But that's also kind of a boring answer, so outside of her I'd say...maybe Shaunna? I could see her blabbing all about it to her friends excitedly, leaving them confused bc she may as well be speaking gibberish.

I also think that Bianca and Rui (the companion from Colosseum) would stumble upon it, but wouldn't really understand anything.

Trying again with character descriptions

The story follows Marco Tierno and Shauna as they traverse Kalos and gather mega-evolution stones for professor sycamore’s research and uncover a sinister evil that lies in Kalos

but more than that this story should show how they strive for their personal goals and grow as people whether it’s Tierno wanting to achieve his dream of making a band full of pokemon or Marco learning to love Kalos and being less of an ass

Marco: Marco should be this kid who thinks she’s hot shit but can’t even reach Tierno’s shoulders she has an ego and when that ego is threatened in any way it’s what drives her.

The best example is it driving her to stand up to Alain (not the fact that he just stole from Shauna) she’s not mean however once Alain is gone and the dust settles she sees Shauna is still sad so she throws her a bone and grumpily points out that there should be more stones in the forest even offering to stick around when she earlier wanted to ditch the forest along with the two and go back home she also has a tendency to hold onto things like her first encounter with Alain and how he ticked her off ultimately she still has some growing to do

Tierno: between Shauna’s enthusiasm and Marco’s jackassery Tierno is the most level-headed of the group he prefers to go with the flow but he’s also not afraid to say dude or give Marco or anybody a not-cool look when he thinks they’re going too far he’s musically inclined and can turn anything into a sick beat or melody from a pokemon cry to the drips of a leaky faucet he wants to start up a band full of pokemon and make it big in the music scene but his parents don’t support him however he’s determined to push through in spite of this

Shaunna: Shaunna is cheerful and bubbly when excited her voice turns sing-songy. However, she is very perceptive to her surroundings easily being able to find things others may miss and she has the easiest time thinking out of the box out of the three suggesting ideas and solutions Marco and Tierno might not have even thought of She enjoys cute pokemon as well.

Alain: Alain is best described as blunt when he first meets the main heroes he’s not exactly trying to be mean to them in fact he’s indifferent but he does say how he feels along with what he thinks and what he thinks is they have no use for the mega stone and that he needs it more. So therefore it doesn’t matter that they found it first. He also does not enjoy Marco’s ego in the slightest it irritates him. Alain should give off the air of looking down on others (and in Marco’s case he probably does) but how he is on the inside mostly does not align with that vibe he gives off.
