I also think that Bianca and Rui (the companion from Colosseum) would stumble upon it, but wouldn't really understand anything.

like a lot of people my age/generation/whatever, pokemon is Pretty Important To Me in terms of its influence on my life, creativity, interests, etc. pokémon ruby is one of the first games i remember really losing myself in, and probably the main reason i ended up growing up into A Gamer. a friend of mine in primary school showed me pokémon romhacks and the tools used for them, and some of the earliest times i poked at anything gamedev related was using those tools.

i'm a fan of when pokémon related stories get into the travelling, the adventure. the fantasy of this world to have the freedom to go out and explore and take risks but know you'll always have something to fall back on. at it's best, pokémon really is about the childlike wonder of discovering just how big the world is and how that innocence and hope is what propels people forward into the future.

not quite a positive statement, but i wish there was more pokémon stuff that went into weirder variants of the setting's core concepts. legends arceus' isekai story is a good example - same with the PMD series, the orre games, hell even pokémon conquest. the pokémon themselves have a broad appeal, with so many different mons that there's something for everyone, and that means there's a lot of space to play in how you use them, where you put them, how the player relates to them, etc.

i have this whole pokémon fan setting in my head for a ttrpg campaign i wanna run someday, about a medieval fantasy war story with pokémon as a major setting element. yeah, i could just come up with my own monsters to catch and use in the setting, but pokémon work as a "common language" so to speak in getting certain ideas and concepts across. that shared language of experience and nostalgia is a good foundation to expand upon.

also i can't make a post about what i like about pokémon without a) recommending the fangame Pokémon Tectonic - it's one of my fave pokémon games i've ever played, and i think if you enjoy the competitive-style teambuilding aspects of the main series or have ever wished the main games were just a bit more challenging you'll enjoy it too. and b) saying Fuck Nintendo. absolute scumbag company. make pokémon public domain Now

Red/Blue/Yellow - honestly... I just liked that Pikachu can follow us on Yellow, wish they kept that feature all throughout each games, it only came back on HGSS, SwSh, BDSP, and ScVi. Also the fact I can get all three starters hahah

Crystal - Kris supremacy, the highlight of it really, also really dope we can visit another region post game

TCG for the GBC - it's fun, made me understand the card game a bit better back then hahah

Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald - HOENN SUPREMACY ough this is home in game form fr, this and BW/BW2, but more on this really hahaha it's cool the contests are cool actually, love the starters, they're the first starter trio where I liked all of them, love the characters, I love my son Wally so much, May/Brendan too, Wallace the true Hoenn Champion in my heart (Emerald bias), the best roster of mons, I could go on really

FireRed/LeafGreen - I mean.. idk. It's an improved version of gen one I'll tell you that but yeah

Platinum - Torterra, Garchomp, Riolu, and the contests (yes I liked the contests here too, the contests here low-key better than in gen 3 ngl)

HeartGold - love the pkmn following feature for real, it's so cute, it's dope, wish they added that in gen five hcnxnx

PMD Red/Blue Rescue Team - Red Rescue Team was my intro to pmd, fucked me up so much I had to use the HP cheat lmfaoooo but it's fun tho hahaha

PMD Explorers of Sky - changed me as a person, really dope, the characters are cool, I just hated Chatot at the start lmfao, but dude this game is so fuckin dope pls cndmdn the way Hero and Partner are so soft and I love how they're still together even post game they mean so much to me your honour🥹

White - my absolute beloved omfsssss everything's so cool okay everything abt it is so cool, love the characters man and the story too, dyou know how cool it was seeing all the Gym Leaders interact and fight Team Plasma, dude that blew my mind back then lmfaooo also c'mon the Tao Trio? You mean the greatest Legendary trio? Hahaha

Black 2 - same w White, it's so cool, everything's so fucking dope, plus PWT

Conquest - I like the art style lmfao

X - Diantha my beloved, also the pokemon petting thing I'm just sad it's a bit lag on my emulator but still I really love this feature hahaha

Ultra Sun - the starters, and the pokemon petting thing again hahah

Omega Ruby - look you already know how much I love Hoenn, plus this has mega evolution and it has the dexnav! Also the pokemon petting thing ofc lmfao also also love how they improved Magma and Aqua really idk I just cnmdnd god ORAS Team Magma and Aqua my beloveds jcdmdn

PMD Gates to Infinity - look I just know that Hydreigon isn't really the big bad guy okay and I'm so happy abt that bc it's usually the Dark/Ghost types that are villains in these games so it's a nice change that Hydreigon isn't a villain

Super Mystery Dungeon - man the scene from the start w Nuzleaf looking at the hero and the hero was giving him puppy eyes killed me okay it lives in my head rent free and I wanna draw smth abt it

Unite - ah yes, the moba game, anyways it's dope if you're winning lmfaooo also it's dope Gengar's there they should buff him actually, I think Hex and Sludge Bomb deserve buffs

TCG online/live - the online one was dope, I still miss my Zamazenta deck to this day

Masters EX - the lore chdmdnd they should add more Diantha lore please I am begging😭

Red/Blue/Yellow - it's boring as hell. I don't like the fans of this one too, most just couldn't accept that people like the newer gens and they always shit on people if they don't like gen one

Crystal - other than not being able to get Mareep, nothing much, they do have a point w the level scaling tho

TCG for GBC - I mean tbf I understand why it's not mentioned much there's not much to it but it's still fun for killing time

Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald - how back breaking it was finding Feebas I honestly gave up, also what the fuck was that Regis mission man💀

FireRed/LeafGreen - same w RBY

Platinum - it wasn't a fun experience for me, it's slow as shit, and I'm pretty fucking sure majority of the people who like this game only likes Cynthia. Fr, no hate on Cynthia, she's a dope character, but she's like the Charizard of the pkmn characs really, she gets everything and is everywhere, how abt giving a chance to other Champions

HeartGold - a bit slow, but not DPPt slow at least, also again w the level scaling

PMD Red/Blue Rescue Team - this would've been so so dope if it weren't for the fact that after the story, Hero and Partner became nothing but normal recruits. Like all that buildup of Hero wanting to stay for Partner, and suddenly they're just like normal recruits, it sucks

PMD Explorers of Sky - Aegis Cave

White - idk but for me it's hard to level up in this game, also the fact the E4 didn't do much on screen, like I wanna know what they did during Plasma's attack

Black 2 - it's,, well it's how the previous characters interacted really, I wish there was more of it, I wanted to see the Gym Leaders interact w each other during the games, pls I wanted to see Bianca and Iris meeting at Castelia bc I know they met up there again please I just know it

Conquest - I think it's a skill issue on my bit but the gameplay was just so confusing for this one, and no I don't mean the battle gameplay, that I got, more on the,, recruiting bit and using of items and everything else—

X - I can't say it's easy just yet bc I really haven't made much progress so hey, for now I'm gonna say at how fucking long it takes when you get an item like dude why does it take so fucking long💀 also the lack of Diantha scenes, she deserves more, honestly she deserves so much better

Ultra Sun - have not finished this so no solid judgement but for now Imma say it's how tedious it is levelling up your mons and idk if it's a skill issue on my bit but like,,, do they really give off such a small amount of exp?? Idk, granted, my pkmn was a bit over levelled hahah

Unite - the abysmal matchmaking, the fact that ftp players don't have a way to get gems even if it's through events or missions, the devs thinking gem locking pkmn was a grand fucking idea, the way they can't balance their mons some are just too squishy and some are still strong despite the nerfs, also have I mentioned the matchmaking? Dude fr standard is either full of bots or I get matched w players who don't even know the objectives even if I'm telling them where to gather chxmxn

TCG online/live - live was honestly so so shit and a lot of players agree like even the cards aren't balanced Jesus Christ also it's lag as shit you can't even do anything most of the time and suddenly you lose also fun fact this game almost broke my fucking phone I almost couldn't exit the game and I had to forcefully reset my phone to save it lmfao

Masters EX - I haven't played this much yet for a solid judgement too but damn is the download time for this is slow as shit and fucking crashed on my tab. Also the lack of Diantha lore, pls they should add more abt Diantha she deserves it

2) the mystery dungeon games are really good up until the 3ds era ones ... super mystery dungeon is just. insanely hard and the plot is just meh when compared to the others. the explorers of sky/time/darkness will always be the absolute BEST

That’s cool that you’re getting a 3ds! Especially now since you can find a lot of them for a good deal. I’m not really a fan of platformers so I don’t know any good ones, buuuut

Since you’re also getting Pokemon I’d recommend Yo-Kai Watch, Monster Hunter Stories, and Moco Moco Friends. Each of these games are very different from Pokemon but they all share the “battling with monsters” mechanic. I haven’t played much of Moco Moco Friends but it was fun and I want to get back in it.

For something with the same feel as New Leaf I’ll say Fantasy Life, Ever Oasis, Rune Factory 4, Story of Season 2 (as SoS 1 is kind of boring imo), Style Savvy 2 and 3, Happy Home Designer if you’re into  the house decorating of New Leaf.

Some other fun games I’ve tried out were these 2 Disney Magical World games as they’re more like an easier Fantasy Life while also running a Cafe. The fact that you can run a cafe is the only reason I wanted it bc I’m not a fan of Disney. Final Fantasy Explorers is an ok ARPG game but it has a really slow start to it. Miitopia is a fun and lovely game! It’s almost like a full version of that rpg mini game in Tomodachi Life. I really enjoyed Fire Emblem Fates: Conquest if you’re into tactical rpgs I’d say check out that one.

I know that Miitopia, Ever Oasis, Yo-Kai Watch, Style Savvy 3, and Monster Hunter Stories haves demos you can try out. Yo-Kai’s demo did turn me away from the game, though and I’m not sure why. I’m happy that my brother got it and after playing the full game I really did fall in love with Yo-Kai Watch.

I’ve decided to switch focus for a moment from RWDE to this, a sort of hyperbolic series of videos criticizing Video Games. I will might also cover his Twilight Princess/Skyward Sword too but I wanna hit this because I am very well versed in Pokemon and I have been a fan of the series since I picked up an old Red Version back in the early 2000′s so yeah, I have been a long term fan having played the games from Red to X and the only reason I don’t play Sun or Moon is because I haven’t gotten the games. I have done quite a bit of research on them though so I feel confident that I can debate this. So let’s begin:

Actually yes, they have. A lot. Like the Steel Type which WASN’T a part of Generation 1, Berries, alternate Pokeballs with differing catch rates based on conditions, Natures, Physical/Special Split, Double Battles, Held items, Evs and Ivs, Abilities, Breeding, EV training, Poke-amie, Mega Evolution which completely changed the game, Roaming Legendaries, the Fairy Type and re typing of previous Pokemon, the Alolan forms, Poekpolaga, Z-Moves and many others because I don’t do competitive battles. And this is all coming without delving into how THESE aspects are changed and built upon, such as the Triple battle, Rotation battle and Inverse Battle being built off of the Double Battles along with the various new Pokeballs, The change with the Physical Special Spilit, the sheer variety of the held items and the Abilities that are rare like Hidden Abilities or Mega Abilities. And then we have spin off games, such as the Mystery Dungeon Series, the Ranger series, the Rumble series, Pokemon COnquest, Pokemon Snap, Poke Collseum, Pokemon XD, Pokken and such. This is simply not true.

This Mario analogy really bites him in the ass because if Pokemon is nothing but these turn based battles, then Mario would be, by his logic, nothing but jumping around. And once again, this only applies to the Pokemon main series, not the spin offs which have dungeon crawling, adventure games, beat em ups, stradegy games, photo shooting and fighting games. So this compliant still doesn’t hold up and with  the Mario analogy kind of gives an air of willful ignorance.

“Copy and Paste”? Really? So the fact that there are new characters, new locations, new cities, new types of battles, new items and so are completely disregarded? If so, then no wonder you have a problem: you aren’t taking things into account. And then there’s the fact that not every Pokemon fan watches trailers so that flaw doesn’t apply to them and is thus not a universal criticism.

That doesn’t even make sense considering wild Pokemon cannot stall the game like that, they would have no concept of such a thing being WILD Pokemon, another Pokemon means more experience points without having to look for more Pokemon, grinding is inherently slow so “quickly” doesn’t even make sense, you are pretty much guaranteed to be stronger than any none Legendary Wild pokemon in the game so a second pokemon would pose no threat and this could have just been avoided if you mentioned how in generation 5 when you are faced by two wild pokemon you could send out two. I know this is a joke but the joke is so poorly written and so badly enacted that there’s no humor for me to suspend my disbelief for him.

Gee, i dunno. Because that’s over 800 POKEMON that you would need to program into the game which is located on a hand held console meaning it has less space and less processing power than a console. Also, Pokemon following you around is your suggestion? Dude, that is the definition of a novelty: as cheap throwaway gimmick that in fact would be just like that “new coat of paint” you were complaining about. All the stuff I mentioned but you refuse to acknowledge actually impacts the gameplay.

...Would you believe it if I said that this exact analogy is why I decided to do all of this? Yeah, this is a TERRIBLE analogy. First off, you’d HAVE to order the Cheesecake, just like how you’d BUY a pokemon game. If you complain about getting the same basic formula as before, it’s no one’s fault but your own.

Secondly, stuff like Abilities, Fairy Types and Mega Evolution would change the game entirely so it would be exactly the same as before. But you know what IS essentially chocolate shaving? Having your Pokemon follow you around. The one specific compliant so far and it spits in the face of everything else.

Third: The part about not putting chocolate shaving on strawberry would be disgusting if it actually happened, just like how adding in Pokemon following you everywhere would clash with the gimmicks of some of the gyms.

Fourth: The part about being more expensive is just blatantly false: Teh starting price of Pokémon games, at least since Diamond and Pearl, has always been 50 dollars. Are older games cheaper now? Yes but that’s how prices go: The newest games are more expensive because they expanded more than the older games.

Fifth: You can stop ordering cheesecake at many time and look for another dessert, just like you can stop playing the main series of games and look at the spin-offs or just different games. Nobody is forcing you but yourself.

1. If you could travel any where in the world, where would you go?

Either Greece or Alcatraz. I’m a huge nerd when it comes to Greek mythology, and I find the 1920′s gangster culture to be rather interesting.

2. If you could be any mythical creature or being, what and why?

Dragon. I wanna fly around, breath fire, and collect shiny objects.

3. What is one thing you cannot live without?

My cat. Her name is Pandora and I love her.

4. Favorite type of food on a rainy day?

White Chili. That stuff is so good.

5. What is your favorite memory that you have?

I dunno... I don’t really think about the past all that much... I guess when I went to Washington (the state) for a month, hanging out with my cousins was fun. We played Mario Kart, it was pretty cool.

6. Which mystery of the world would you want to know the answer to?

Why do people constantly blame Helen of Troy for the Trojan War? It’s like they forget that she was given to Paris as a prize without any consent.

7. What is your favorite flavor of cake?

My mom’s so good at cake I don’t think I can have a true answer. I like banana and red velvet. Maybe one of those?

8. What pairing goes together best in your opinion?

Corrin and Izana. Izana can help Corrin cope with all of the stuff that’s going on during Birthright and Conquest, while Corrin can help Izana mature a little. Also, Izana makes puns out of his child’s name, which makes him the best possible husband Corrin could have.

Or Frey/Clorica from Rune Factory 4. No reason in particular. I just love my sleepy wife.

9. Which superpower would you want if you could only have one?

As an Animorphs fan, naturally I have to go with the ability to morph. Morphing is cool, and I wanna ride the thermals.

10. Which fictional character would be the most boring to meet in real life?

Mmm... maybe Arthur from Rune Factory 4. He’s kinda boring, and I think the only real trait he has is that he has some sort of glasses fetish.

11. What is the dumbest way you’ve been injured?

In middle school I got so dehydrated that I fell and hurt my ankle when I was walking from gym class to the nurse’s. I walked with a limp for awhile. That’s all I can think of, I don’t have the best memory. This question is better for my sister anyway.

Mass effect andromeda is sooo cheap right now but i have nothing to play it on lolol

Fe Fates Conquest and Revelation are getting pretty cheap too~ just need to keep waiting for them to go down in proce cause the one thing i do have is a 3ds! ((And i only own one game and thats cause someone didnt want it, surprisingly its pokemon moon))

Tho I wanna try out Animal Crossing cause it looks really cute
