Judge: I will now hear the divorce arguments of Li vs. Mo.
He Tian: Hey, what's going on here? I thought this was, like, a no-fault divorce proceeding.
Judge: I'm sorry. You are?
He Tian: I'm his husband.
She Li: Actually, it is I, who are his husband.
He Tian: Yeah, it takes a little more than a legal document to call yourself a husband, pal.
Judge: Actually, that is the literal definition of a husband.
She Li’s lawyer: Exactly, Your Honor. And I intend to prove, beyond a reasonable doubt, that this lying, cheating... Can I say "whore" in here?
Judge: No.
She Li’s lawyer: Lying, cheating hooker of a man owes my client a boatload of damages.
Mo Guan Shan: *Rolling his eyes*
Zhan Zheng Xi: What the hell is going on here?
Brother Qiu: Red just got served.
Jian Yi: Served? I haven't even ordered yet.
Judge: *Gavel Bangs* Order!
Jian Yi: Uh, cheeseburger, please!

Hi! I've been trying to find an answer but my english is not good. Could you explain how names work in China/19 days? Do they really say their names completely everytime? Please!
Hi there, I understand your confusion. Here's the thing: in the Chinese culture it's mandatory to call people with their entire name (Family name + proper name, like He Tian, where "He" is the last name and "Tian" his name), unless you are a very, very close relative (husband and wife, or kids) or you are a couple. In that case you can dare to use just the name, which is considered to be very intimate.
Consequently, what for the Occidental world is common routine like a teacher calling pupils' names or friends calling each other using the names, in China would be weird, embarrassing or even offensive.
That's why the 19 days boys calling their beloved one still use the last name: Mo-zi (莫子), Zhan Xixi (展希希) ;)
There's also another reason, which is phonetical: In Chinese the harmony of language is due to double syllables: when a monosyllabic word is "single", it generally gets doubled to make it sound correct and harmonic to Chinese ears. Like 谢谢 (thanks), as an example. Even for kids, whose name become double adding some adjective. Like instead of 贺天 (He Tian), when he was lost in the woods as a kid, he was called by the nurse 小天 (Xiao Tian = little Tian).
Hope this helps, ciao

Hey ganen~there are some ppl on Weibo who speculate He tian & mo have started dating.. especially the sentence He said before hugging momo “我們都不准反悔” it’s like they made a huge promise on sth.. He tian keeps saying he’s Momo’s husband, and momo let He spoon him makes the whole situation more suspicious🤔 anyways, hope u are having a good day!
😇😇😇
That’s amazing!!! We can indeed see Momo being more pliant on He Tian since the incident 🥺❤️ I want to see behind the scenes of what took place when he took Momo home, and after he pulled him in to say he hoped Momo just liked him back.
***
He Tian has his eyes set on Momo, and Momo might be unsure where his future will take him, not having any high hopes for himself personally and just living day by day… but He Tian has set his mind that it’s only Momo… and that he wants to make him happy and safe more than anything else.
Momo has been shouldering everything by himself since he was young. He acts like a leader to his “gang”, trying to be a pillar like his dad and support his mom, putting on a tough face and hiding his vulnerabilities, problems and insecurities.
He Tian has proven, he’ll never leave Momo alone, despite Momo trying so hard to isolate himself again. Somehow he still showed up and was looking for him despite their fight. Despite Momo’s words to him. Allowed Momo a moment to rest and be vulnerable while he took care of him. He took Momo’s secrets and hid him and took care of him safely.
Momo was able to sleep and rely on He Tian, even if it’s just this moment, Momo was able to rest. Even if He Tian might think that he wasn’t there when Momo needed him most with She Li, I’m sure it means a lot to Momo that He Tian is actually there now, even if he doesn’t realize it. He Tian has become a big part of Momo’s life, an important part.
They might have to separate in the future to grow up, but we know they’ll find a way back towards one another and be able to love each other more properly the way they want to.
Even if there are no 100% confirmations about dating, they are indeed the most special person to one another 😭 and their bond has deepened more and more throughout all this time. I also like to think, even if there are no confessions or a “real” starting point of where they transform from friends to lovers, it just becomes like that naturally for them because that was the natural flow. There is just simply no one else and little by little they become closer and closer and it just becomes normal, like the spooning 👀❤️ Even if Momo doesn’t explicitly say things, he allows He Tian to do some things which is 😭
He Tian is someone Momo can rely on… even if he didn’t ask for it… even if Momo is a person who finds it hard to be vulnerable to others, to explicitly admit a “weakness” (in his POV). He Tian is someone who will not wait for Momo’s words. He wants to be there for him, even if some might call that being selfish, of He Tian just doing what he wants, that’s part of He Tian’s strong feelings for Momo. He doesn’t care if he’s being selfish or whatever, he wants to be with Momo. If that Momo is suffering of course he wants to help him. He wants to be the one to make him happy. I love that He Tian’s love is selfless and selfish at the same time ❤️ He’s not perfect, but his feelings for Momo are true.
I’m sorry Anon for going on an essay. Your Ask made me think again of reasons I love them. I hope they’ll be together stronger and better ❤️ and they will make each other better and stronger ❤️ They can be officially dating in our minds 👀👀❤️❤️ They already have the love, just no written confirmation 👀❤️❤️❤️

Mo: I’m going to go ask the host if he can give us a to-go box.
Tian:*sucking/chewing on a rib* Okie Dokies. I’ll be here.
[Mo gets up and approaches the host by the podium]
Mo: Hello.
Host: Hi. What can I get ya,handsome?
Tian:*eyes widen,stops chewing,turns towards them*
Mo:*doesn’t think anything of it* A to-go box please. And the check.
Host:*writes something on the back of the receipt, hands it to him* There you go.
Mo:*opens the brown booklet, reads it to himself* “Give me a call sometime cutie (: I’ll take you out for a good time”
Tian: *standing behind him reading over his shoulder, grabs the booklet from Mo* I got this. *approaches the podium* Excuse me,sir. I think there’s something wrong with our bill.
Host: I’m pretty sure there isn’t anything wrong with it.
Tian: Yes see..it clearly says right here *pointing to the check* That you charged us a basket of breadsticks that we didn’t order. It ALSO says that you need to stay in your lane and no flirt on MY clueless husband or I’ll have to quite literally kick your ass.
Host:Oh really?!
Tian:*opens jacket to reveal the gun he’s carrying* Really.

Pairing: Mobei-jun/Shang Qinghua
Rating: T
Tags: Fluff, Ming Reading, Mild Sexual Content
Word Count: 1.9k
Snippet:
“Ah, my king! Watch out for that–”
Mobei-jun hardly blinks as a giant cloud of pollen hits him square in the face. His arm is still up from where he’d casually swatted aside a branch covered in glowing purple blossoms; the flowers must not have appreciated his desire for them to get out of his way. Ridiculous.
Shang Qinghua grimaces in that exaggerated way he’s prone to and squeaks out the—now irrelevant—remainder of his warning, “...pollen.”
Mobei-jun puffs an exhale, spitting out whatever bits of it had gotten into his mouth.
“Pff. So cute!”
Cute? Him?! If anyone’s cute it’s Shang Qinghua. Mobei-jun glares at his husband, shoving away the part of himself that feels a little flattered. “Do you want to die?”
“Eh?” Shang Qinghua has the gall to look surprised. He puts up his hands placatingly. “Why is my king blaming me? I did try to warn you. It’s not this husband’s fault that you’re too tall to simply walk around it.”
“Ah, but it sort of is though…” Shang Qinghua somehow says without moving his mouth.
One of Mobei-jun’s eyebrows lifts infinitesimally.

Relationships: Zhuzhi-lang & Tianlang-jun, Shen Qingqiu/Luo Binghe, Tianlang-jun/Su Xiyan, Luo Binghe & Zhuzhi-lang, Mobei-jun/Shang Qinghua
Rating: T
Tags: Age Regression/De-Aging, Post-Canon, Emotional Hurt/Comfort, Non-Sexual Intimacy, Tianlang-jun Has Chronic Pain, Dreamscapes, Memories, Trans Male Character
Current Word Count: 26.6k
Chapters 1-13 are up!
“In my defense,” Tianlang-jun says as he elegantly lowers himself to sit cross-legged on the floor of the Holy Mausoleum, “I’ve never brought anyone back from the dead before. As far as complications go…this is relatively manageable, wouldn’t you agree?”
The question is directed towards a young child swimming in black robes far too elaborate and spacious for his minuscule size. The child simply blinks his big, dark eyes in response. It’s an incredibly familiar mannerism, and one that has only gotten cuter amidst accidental age regression.
“Is Zhuzhi-lang angry with me?” Tianlang-jun leans his elbow on his knee, casually resting his cheek in his palm. “Or does your current age prevent speech? I admit to my ignorance regarding children and when their mouths start making intelligible sounds.”
Zhuzhi-lang tilts his head, remaining silent. And Tianlang-jun has a sudden…well, perhaps not fear but an emotion just shy of worry.
He prompts, “You remember your favorite uncle, don’t you? Stunningly handsome, brilliant wit…” He trails off in the face of Zhuzhi-lang’s blank stare. Then he swallows down whatever intangible thing has gotten caught in his throat and smiles. “Okay! That’s fine, that’s perfectly all right. The only thing you need to know is that you call me jiujiu. Always have. Keep that in mind, will you?”

tianlang-jun travels around post-canon, once the deterioration of his body has slowed and the monks have set him free to do as he wishes.
he wishes to travel. that's it. that's all he's ever wanted.
so he does.
he wanders from place to place, seeing new plays and reading new books.
"and would you look at this zhuzhi-lang!" he says, casually glancing back. the space behind him is empty. his expression only dulls a little when he remembers there's no one following at his heels anymore
it happens so often these days, he's grown almost numb to it.
almost.
he shakes his head slowly, a rueful smile on his lips. he used to travel alone all the time before meeting his nephew but now...
it really isn't the same.
he should be used to loss at this point, he thinks. but his sister, and xiyan, and zhuzhi-lang just pile on top of one another, making the space in his chest dense and heavy.
it isn't that he wants to travel. it's that there were people he wanted to travel with.
so he returns, one careful step at a time, to the holy mausoleum. to the first place he went after regaining his freedom, to the place where his nephew's bones rest.
he places a hand against the chilled side of zhuzhi-lang's coffin.
it isn't in his power to return life to the cold body within.
yet.
he pats the coffin. once, twice.
don't worry nephew, he thinks, i'll be back

My #1 post of 2022
do you ever think about post canon tianlang-jun finally being able to recognize the extent of his grief, to truly just let himself feel it
he was trapped under a mountain for decades and then he was on a half-hearted mission of revenge. and of course he felt pain and grief during those years, how could he not?
but now he knows su xiyan never betrayed him. he knows that it was all a big, tragic misunderstanding. and he knows that his actions in the wake of it are the reason his nephew is no longer by his side.
and as he sits alone, with only his slowly healing body, he can finally just grieve. he can let the horrible guilt and pain wash through him and not push it aside as he's done for years.
and it's awful. it's an terrible ache like nothing he's felt before. but he knows that he has to let himself feel it, he has to acknowledge the hurt or it will eat him alive. and neither xiyan nor zhuzhi-lang would want that.
anyway. i think about this a lot

Tag Game
10 Characters, Ten Fandoms, Ten Tags
Tagged by @oddishblossom ! Thank you for the tag! 💜
Sorry for the late response! I was unexpectedly busy today!
The list was meant to be in no particular order actually but then it became a reversed list of all the media I have hyperfixated on this year and the year before that
1. Qiyan Agula/Qi Yan/Qi Yuanjun (Jing Wei Qing Shang)
No thoughts head full of Qi Yan
Qi Yan my evil little meow meow 🥺💖 Yeah she is an immoral vengeful arsonist lesbian but I love her very much so it's okay <3 (I still haven't finished reading jwqs there's still more than 30 chapters left and I'm still very scared of what comes next.)
2. Wei Wuxian (Mo Dao Zu Shi)
Aahhh my precious little necromancer he is very precious to me I love him to the moon and back. And he is such an absolute baddie oof! It fills me immense unspeakable joy that he is living his best life with his loving husband.
3. Xie Lian (Tian Guan Ci Fu)
The only God I believe in. The only religion I would advocate for. Hua Cheng was so right for simping non stop and I get it!! And I would do the same too <33 I am so so happy that Xie Lian is taking a break from being good and indulging himself and Hua Cheng. They know they deserve it <3
It physically pains me to not put Luo Binghe here because i haven’t read svsss yet but just know that if i did he would definitely be on this list
4. Nanami Touko (Yagete Kimi Ni Naru)
The layers upon layers that she has are all so interesting and intriguing. She is an amazing character I really enjoy her. "I hate myself. How could I love someone who loves something I hate. I want to stay in love with you." never fails to give me the chills.
5. Alucard (Castlevania)
Did I mention that I love vampires (and dhampirs even more than vampires???) Well now you do. There was no way I would go through Castlevania and not fall in love with this beautiful bisexual boy ❤
6. Nakahara Chuuya (Bungo Stray Dogs)
He’s cool as fuck. He can manipulate gravity and use it in many creative ways. He is partially a God. He’s the only one who can keep up with Dazai. What’s there not to like??? (Also his screaming is extremely therapeutic)
7. Kageyama Tobio (Haikyu!!)
My lovely little round volleyball blueberry <333 He deserves all the best things in the world. He reached the top of world with the man and he loves and I cry happily everytime I think about it because I am so happy for him!! Never have I ever seen a character crafted with so much love like Tobio was.
8. Zuko (Avatar the Last Airbender)
His entire journey of self discovery and self acceptance along with recognizing and learning to utilize his plus points and starting to heal is so touching and I love him so much and I'm so proud of him ❤
9. Neil Josten (All for the Game)
This bastard bitch boy!! Has been living in my brain for so long it isn't funny at all. My english teacher calls me up to the front of the classroom to talk about my experience of reading any book? I panic and talk about Neil fucking Josten even tho I hadn't re-read the book in more than a year?? Anyway I'm very happy that my demisexual king is living happily with the love of his life. Good for him he made it and I'm very proud of him too.
10. Inej Ghafa (Six of Crows)
Where do I start? Everything about her. She is brilliant and amazing. Still loving and kind after what she went through. No one can kick ass like her. Her range. "But I'll die on my feet with a knife in my hand." Yeah.
Putting Mercedes Thompson from the Mercedes Thompson series as an honorable mention because I was definitely obsessed with her (who wouldn't be? Stephen and Adam agree with me) and Urban fantasy is actually a really good genre and deserves more appreciation.
This got much longer than I had expected it to be damn I don't know how to shut up do I?
Okay so anyone and everyone I interact with on here has already been tagged in this and I have no idea what to do. So skshzjjs I'm not tagging anyone? But if you see this and wanna do this then please do <3

Future tianshan
Mo Guan Shan: *Waking up from surgery*
He Tian: *Holding his hand* Hey how are you feeling?
Mo Guan Shan: I’m fine, but who are you? You can’t hold my hand, or my boyfriend will get mad.
He Tian: Little Mo——
Mo Guan Shan: ——Don’t call me that. Only my boyfriend can call me that.
He Tian: But it’s me He Tian.
Mo Guan Shan: *Extremely happy* He Tian!
He Tian: Yes it’s me. But don’t you remember, we’re not boyfriends anymore.
Mo Guan Shan: We’re not dating? You’re not my boyfriend? *Starts to tear up*
He Tian: No no no. I’m your husband. Don’t cry.
Mo Guan Shan: *Cries even more* But your not my boyfriend. *Yanks his hand away* Let go of me. You’re not my boyfriend.

this drabble is a gift to one of my dearest and biggest supporters, @geoviki, who requested a bonus ‘second kiss’ continuation scene between he tian and guan shan in the ‘sweet tooth’ universe (a crazy rich asians-inspired fic), and i sincerely hope you enjoy it, viki! all my love, xxx
Guan Shan hasn’t set foot in God’s house since he was a kid. His mother goes every weekend when she doesn’t have a double shift, but he can’t bring himself to go with her. Too busy, too cynical. He knows he can’t struggle with his faith when he’s lost it; he doesn’t know if he ever found it. He knows without a doubt that he sins.
As it is, he isn’t burnt in the service, isn’t poisoned by the communion. He thinks that if anyone were to be dealt retribution then he wouldn’t be first in line. Singapore’s elite have bigger, dustier skeletons in their closets than Guan Shan, half-disintegrated with age.
He tells himself this through the readings and prayers and hymns he’s forgotten the words to, glances routinely through the stained-glass windows for a glimpse of an outside reality he can’t see. He can hear it: the rush of mid-morning traffic beyond the grassy verges of the church, neatly protected from the central business district by iron fencing and a half-acre of flower beds and rain trees.
Beneath the lip of the pew, where copies of the testaments, old and new, have been neatly placed and the firm, embroidered hassocks hang off metal hooks, He Tian squeezes Guan Shan’s hand.
‘Nearly done,’ he murmurs, while Father Joshua delivers his sermon on godliness in children and parental obedience.
Guan Shan's gaze slides to his. It’s one of the only things He Tian’s said the whole service.
‘You believe all this?’ he asks, whispering.
‘They do,’ He Tian replies, his lips barely moving.
Fans move lazily above them from the high steepled ceiling, their chains rattling over the din of the priest’s solemn tone. They don’t offer much: the inside of the church is still sticky with heat, and members of the congregation attempt to cool themselves with the service pamphlets or paperback copies of the Bible with broken spines and annotations in the margins.
From the seat in front of them, Guan Shan watches a bead of sweat slide down a woman’s neck, dampness collecting at the high laced collar of her Chanel dress. She has her own bamboo fan, painted with pretty avian sketches.
Guan Shan pulls his gaze away. ‘Which godly child are you?’ he asks He Tian quietly. ‘Absolom or Samuel?’
He Tian tries to hide a grin. ‘Destroyer of kingdoms or a monk?’ he questions, angling his head as if looking behind him. His breath is cool at Guan Shan’s ear. Guan Shan lets him lean close, breathing in sandalwood and khus oil. ‘Are those my only choices?’
Guan Shan sets his eyes forward. ‘Nothin’ else seems to be acceptable.’
‘Yes—they’re a stern lot.’
‘They should put their money where their mouth is.’
He Tian snorts quietly. He releases Guan Shan’s hand, and Guan Shan says nothing when his hand moves instead to rest innocently atop Guan Shan’s thigh.
‘He Tian…’ he starts to warn.
He Tian keeps his expression plain. ‘I told you if you came I’d make it worth your while.’
‘That’s not—’ Guan Shan bats his hand away. The gesture elicits a harsh smacking sound, and a few heads turn. Guan Shan presses his lips into a hard line. When eventually their attention shifts away again, Guan Shan hisses, ‘I’m not doin’ that.’
‘I thought you didn’t care much for His wrath,’ He Tian says, pointing discreetly upwards.
‘That’s got nothin’ to do with…’ Guan Shan breaks off. He Tian’s eyes are glittering. He’s joking with him. Guan Shan clenches his jaw. Murmuring, he says: ‘You shouldn’t mess with people like that.’
‘But you make it so much fun,’ He Tian whispers.
Guan Shan glares at him. He endures the rest of the sermon in stoic silence. Absolom, he thinks. He Tian, the destroyer of kingdoms—and young men’s hearts.
///
They linger outside after the sermon. The air is thick and charged with the aftermath of a morning thunderstorm, the ground wet with rain and the smell of petrichor. Guan Shan breathes in deeply, stepping back while He Tian greets strangers and allows middle-aged women to offer both cheeks for him to kiss, their husbands noticeably absent. They run their eyes over Guan Shan and the suit he’s going to make He Tian return by the end of the day, and He Tian politely evades their desire for introductions.
He knows everyone, Guan Shan realises, but it doesn’t surprise him. He’s seen the He family work a crowd at a party or a charity function. The lingering congregation of a Sunday mass is only another opportunity to schmooze and gossip.
‘Just another five minutes,’ He Tian murmurs at Guan Shan’s ear. ‘My father will have my hide if I don’t show my face for a decent length of time.’
‘How long’s that? By his standards?’
‘He’d have me go to brunch with someone’s mother and their daughter if he had his way.’
Guan Shan fingernails bite into his palms. The thought of He Tian being palmed off to some socialite’s offspring makes him bitter with jealousy. He’s seen He Tian only a few times since the charity function at the She estate, communicated with him mostly in veiled text messages and late night calls.
It’s been weeks since they’d shared the feeling of each other’s lips in a quiet room at the She mansion, weeks since they’d shared kueh with their legs dangling over the edge of a jetty across from Sentosa island. Most nights, Guan Shan still tastes both on his lips.
He’s got little stake to claim over the young heir of the He fortune, but he can’t help himself. He goes where He Tian asks him to, wears the suits He Tian buys him. Fuck, he’s started smoking his brand of cigarettes, too. And if He Tian wants to take him to church one Sunday morning so he has better company than a band of middle-aged women wanting him for themselves more than their daughters… Who is Guan Shan to say no after the first three times?
‘What are you thinking?’
Guan Shan blinks. Another church-goer has come and gone, and they’re alone. He Tian is watching him closely.
‘I want a cigarette,’ Guan Shan says. Technically, it’s not a lie.
He Tian snorts. ‘In the courtyard of our Lady of the Veil? Blasphemy, Mo Guan Shan.’
Guan Shan shrugs. He remembers their exchange at the threshold of the church, where two children no more than ten stood with a coin bowl held out, covered in pool-table green cloth and more cash than Guan Shan earns from a month’s tips.
‘I’m not a Catholic,’ he’d told He Tian, feeling strangely compelled to tell him with an even stranger degree of anxiety about the fact, as if it were a make-or-break moment for something they had that could neither be made nor broken.
He Tian had snorted then, too. ‘Don’t worry,’ he’d said, stepping through the doors, palming the children a few bills to line their pockets. ‘Neither am I.’
Now, Guan Shan watches as He Tian reaches into the lining of his suit jacket and pulls out a carton of cigarettes from the pocket. It’s too warm to stand outside in their Sunday best for long, and He Tian tugs Guan Shan over beneath the shade of an Indian-almond tree, its boughs offering some cool relief to a small section of the church courtyard.
Guan Shan watches He Tian light a cigarette between his lips, the flame close to his fingers. It catches; there’s a cherry red glow. Smoke blooms between them, and then He Tian plucks the cigarette from his lips and holds it out as if it’s a newly picked flower.
‘Here,’ he says. A moment passes, where Guan Shan doesn’t take it. ‘I thought you wanted it.’
‘I do, I just—’ Guan Shan can feel his cheeks starting to redden. He swallows. His throat has gone dry. He can hear the voices of men and women standing before the church. He knows some of them are watching, wondering, eager to know who his family is and where he’s come from and how he has captured He Tian’s attention with such painful, singular attentiveness.
‘You’re not—’ He Tian breaks off with a laugh. ‘You’re not worried that I’ve touched it, are you?’
Guan Shan looks away, and He Tian’s eyes widen.
‘Oh,’ he says. His smile grows wider. ‘Mo Guan Shan,’ he croons. ‘I didn’t know you were such a puritan. How proud He’d be.’
‘Shut up,’ Guan Shan mutters.
He Tian’s stance shifts, intrigued. ‘If I’d known it took an indirect kiss to make you blush, Man Upstairs be damned, I’d have put my mouth elsewhere a long time ago.’
‘Shut up.’
He Tian’s laughter is deep as he takes a drag of his cigarette. Some of the women are frowning at him. The hot breeze carries the smoke in their direction, and they waft it away with their fans and paper service pamphlets, rouged mouths pursing tightly. He smiles at them, all affable apologies, and they can’t begrudge him long.
‘They want you to fuck them,’ Guan Shan mutters.
He Tian’s eyes flick to his, and his smile grows indulgent. ‘I know,’ he says.
‘You’re not gonna do anythin’ about it?’
‘Like what?’
Guan Shan grits his teeth. ‘Like—tell them to fuck off?’
He Tian snorts. ‘They’re old friends of the family. And you forget they haven’t made me an offer, sweetheart.’
‘And if they did?’
He Tian considers him carefully. His playfulness begins to fade. ‘You’re jealous,’ he says. ‘Of them?’
‘They’d divorce their investment husbands if they knew they had a chance with you.’
He Tian taps cigarette ash to the ground. He looks away, squinting at the skyline, considering something, before taking a step forward.
‘Firstly,’ says He Tian, his voice low, ‘if they had a chance with me they’d know it. Secondly, there’d be no divorce or marriage to a man twenty years their junior because their reputations wouldn’t survive the scandal. And thirdly: what the fuck would I want with them when I have the prospect of a whole indirect kiss with you?’
Guan Shan glares at him. ‘Gimme that,’ he says, snatching the cigarette from He Tian’s fingers before putting it to his lips. He nearly chokes on the inhale, eyes watering, and smoke seeps from the corners of his mouth before he can control it the way he wants it to. There’s nothing attractive about it, but he catches He Tian watching him with an indulgent smile.
‘It’s been five minutes,’ He Tian says, taking a glance at his watch. ‘We can go now. I promised to buy you brunch. You’re still happy with Orchard Road?’
‘I’m not finished,’ Guan Shan says.
He Tian’s brows lift. ‘You can’t smoke and walk?’
‘I didn’t mean that.’
He Tian tilts his head. ‘Oh?’
‘I meant—it’s not really fair, is it? It’s always—always you kissin’ me, and shit.’
‘Always?’
‘Yeah, with the—distractin’ the guards at She Li’s house and with—’ He makes a vague gesture. ‘—the cigarette and—’
‘Guan Shan—’
‘—it’s only fair that I get to prove my own fuckin’ point too—’
‘Mo Guan Shan—’
‘So will you just shut up and let me kiss you?’
He Tian stares at him.
Then he swallows.
‘If you really want to,’ he starts, ‘I suppose I’m in no position to—mmphh!’
It isn’t tender or soft, and Guan Shan is vaguely aware of the cigarette burning to ash between his fingers. He lets it fall, hopes he’s ground it out beneath his foot properly and remembers to pick it up after or risk a fine, but first: this. His fingers tightly locked in the dark strands of He Tian’s hair; He Tian’s lips bruising against his own, the sharp gasps of the women loitering by the church doors.
It’s exactly as he remembers from last time. A crushing pressure, the sense of being caught unawares. No finesse. Guan Shan knows it could be slower, that they could take their time, a pilgrimage of vulnerability and one body learning another, but something possessive in him has taken over—this is a crusade.
He Tian’s answering kiss twists into a grin against Guan Shan’s mouth. Guan Shan swallows He Tian’s amusement down, finds the feel of He Tian’s smile against his lips unfairly alluring. He does his best to try and rid He Tian of it, crowding close until He Tian’s back hits the trunk of the almond tree and He Tian is groaning beneath the pressure of his lips. He tastes the acrid smoke of their shared cigarette and He Tian’s breath mints, feels the humid beat of the mid-morning sun—and He Tian’s hand pressing gently at his chest.
He pulls away, staggering and breathing hard. With satisfaction, he notes that He Tian is, too.
‘I think we’re even now,’ says He Tian, a slight rasp to his voice. His eyes are bright and he runs his thumbnail over his lower lip, which has gone swollen and red. ‘You’ve suitably convinced your audience.’
Guan Shan looks away. ‘Dunno what you’re talkin’ about.’
‘Oh?’ He Tian asks, amused. ‘That wasn’t you staking your claim?’
Guan Shan hesitates. Part of him can’t bear to look behind him. ‘Are you gonna be excommunicated?’
He Tian chuckles. ‘I’m sure I can find my way back in. Father Joshua is particularly fond of He Cheng’s hideously curvaceous Bugatti.’
‘Guess that’s somethin’,’ Guan Shan mutters.
In answer, He Tian sweeps a hand through the loose strands of Guan Shan’s red hair that have slipped down across his forehead. The touch is fond and familiar and makes Guan Shan swallow hard.
‘You know,’ says He Tian. ‘You can do that any time you want. Not just to prove a point.’
‘You haven’t,’ says Guan Shan, an accusation.
‘I didn’t want to scare you off. I realise last time I was a bit—’
‘Forceful?’
‘Abrupt,’ He Tian corrects delicately. ‘But still—I don’t want you to think you’re any less mine.’
Guan Shan looks at him. ‘Thought you couldn’t have anythin’ you wanted.’
‘Ah…’ He Tian drops his hand, leans back on the heels of his Louis Vitto’s. Almost boyishly, he says, ‘I thought it was a done deal. You and me.’
Guan Shan neither confirms or denies. Instead he asks, ‘Who’d you trade with to get that impression?’
He Tian nods his head upwards. ‘Did it work? I sold my soul for it. ’
‘And they still let you in?’
He Tian’s look is sinful. ‘They let the worst of us through.’
Guan Shan rolls his eyes. He wets his lips. ‘Well,’ he says. ‘I think you’re on a decent road to redemption.’
‘Is that your way of saying it was a worthwhile bargain?’ Tell me it worked.
‘Is that your way of askin’ if I’m yours?’ Guan Shan asks. All these riddles and metaphors—sometimes he has to bring them back to the ground, make sure they’re on the same page.
‘I—Yes.’
Guan Shan nods, then jerks his chin in a challenge. ‘Make me believe it and I might be.’
He Tian’s eyes flicker towards the church just for a moment, but then he smirks, reaffirming their closeness with one step. ‘Mo Guan Shan,’ he murmurs, angling his head down, ‘I thought you’d never ask.’

Episode 31 of Word of Honor, and in many ways OH MY GOD YES, but also, no, show, wtf?
As in, wt actual f is going on? Literally, what is happening?
(Spoilers, so scroll away and come back later, if you need to.)
So, first thing’s first: I feel like this one may end up a bit short, because a lot of it is likely to be just a bunch of keysmash flailing? (EDIT: No, I just came back up here to the top from the bottom, because this is NOT AT ALL any shorter than usual.) I’ll attempt a bit more than exclamation points and worry over whether my poor heart is able to take this, but we’ll see how it goes, because the first thing I’m going to do is say I knew it! and I told you so! I knew you weren’t planning to die, Zhou Zishu. I did call you a liar after Ep 30, and I was right. I mean, what’s the point of having the terrifying master of the Ghost Valley as your boyfriend husband if he’s not going to rescue you after you’ve been kidnapped for attempted ravishment by the evil prince? And get you the best wedding present ever, i.e., a bunch of new disciples? Omg, Zhou Zishu’s face when Wen Kexing finally calls himself a disciple of Four Seasons Manor! (I think he’s so overwhelmed, he doesn’t even realize when WKX calls him “shixiong” a minute before that!) Wen Kexing’s tiny pained smile that he just can’t seem to help when ZZS lays his hand on WKX’s head! That long shuddering breath ZZS lets out, and the way his shoulders just drop, like he’s finally let go of a huge weight! (The worry this brings me, because there are five and a half episodes left, my dude, and your husband is a troublemaker, and I would not be getting complacent, if I was you.) The fact that WKX has knelt to ZZS and called him zongzhu in front of the Ghost Valley contingent – there’s gotta be some political implications to that. Horseback riding! The way WKX keeps holding (up) ZZS! Lol at WKX being all, you all can leave now, we can take our honeymoon alone from here! ZZS knew he would come (I told you so)! Their smiles! Their soft little faces! (Merciless killers! How so fucking adorable?) The hairpin! MARRIED, Y’ALL. Censorship? I don’t know her. ANYWAY, that’s all just a bunch of flailing reaction to the first almost 20 minutes of emoporn. Also, Zhang Zhehan, you should not do suffering so pretty. It makes me feel like a bad person for still enjoying your face so much when your character is in so much physical and emotional distress.
Secondly, show. We need to talk. You should not be this opaque. I’m trying to piece together everything that’s happened in (vaguely) chronological order:
Sometime before dying (before breaking his heart meridians?), Han Ying tells Wen Kexing about the Four Seasons Remnants back with Prince Jin. All of Ep 30 happens, with Zhou Zishu and Xie Wang both making a mess of Awful Prince’s/Yifu’s plans. Xie Wang, the rest of the Scorpions, and the Ghost Valley team retreat back to a lair. Which lair? Who knows, at this point. Cao Weining talks to Fan Shishu. (He explicitly tells this to A-Xiang.) But does he also confront Mo Huaiyang? Because I feel like it must be significant that we get the same turn of phrase to describe Zhao Jing’s relationship with Xie Wang – asking a tiger for its skin – from Mo Huaiyang to Fan Shishu, and then attributed to Cao Weining when A-Xiang quotes it to WKX in the same ep. The show even emphasizes this for us to catch by drawing attention to A-Xiang’s use of it via her struggle to remember the idiom properly. (A. This episode’s convo between Mo Huaiyang and Fan Shishu, which is when we see Mo Huaiyang actually use the idiom, happens AFTER Cao Weining and Gu Xiang leave Gentle Wind Sword Sect. I went back and checked, and it is Mo Huaiyang who uses it, not Fan Shishu. B. In this same convo, Fan Shishu says he still needs to explain all this to the disciples somehow, so C. Was there a prior, unseen convo between just Cao Weining and Mo Huaiyang in which Mo Huaiyang practiced his excuses on poor, hapless Cao Weining first?)
Anyway, Cao Weining then goes to A-Xiang, who’s lit. and fig. in the dark at this point, in her rustic cabin outside the gated community. I notice Cinnamon Roll already has his bag packed. He is done. He lays out the current political web, and A-Xiang seems pretty sure of Liu Qianqiao’s ultimate loyalty to WKX. This is probably important in what happens next. Gu Xiang and Cao Weining decide to run away and elope but then … get captured and taken to the lair. On purpose? A-Xiang did see Liu Qianqiao with Xie Wang in the Secret Cave, standing shoulder to shoulder with Du Pusa as an apparent top-tier henchwoman, and she probably expects to be protected, but this seems like a pretty big gamble. I suppose you don’t survive the Ghost Valley without learning to take some risks. A-Xiang then leads Xie Wang and the Ghost Valley contingent to WKX (at burned-down Four Seasons Manor?) to, she says, let WKX take down Xie Wang. She notes Xie Wang’s use of some potion to control everyone – I assume the Drug Man potion, and I assume the monthly antidote is what’s keeping everyone in the Ghost Valley from going full Drug Man?
WKX and Xie Wang confer in secret. Probably about how much they both hate Awful Yifu. I mean, I assume Xie’er still hates Awful Yifu at this point, but who knows what tomorrow will bring? Probably a key point here: WKX is hiding whatever this was about from his husband. My dude, why are you still like this? I guess that explains the pained cast to that tiny little smile earlier. WKX then takes some of the Ghost Valley contingent and coordinates with the Four Seasons Remnants back in Prince Jin’s territory to rescue ZZS. Husband safely rescued, WKX now heads back to Ghost Valley, to … abdicate? He promises A-Xiang he’s going to come back safely, and my dude, I’m trying to believe you. I really am. I’m trying to have as much faith in you planning to be back all along as I had in ZZS not planning to die in Jin Palace all along, but here’s a key difference: HE LET YOU IN ON HIS PLAN. Which you were a key part of. I find your secrecy, by contrast, concerning.
Other things:
Love the little moment between Gu Xiang and Liu Qianqiao and Luo Fumeng when Beauty Ghost and Tragicomic Ghost turn to Xie Wang in righteous indignation and want to know what the fuck he thinks he’s doing to their little girl. Compare the reaction of these two moms to Happy Ghost being all, “Nope, this is a complete and total in with Wen Kexing right here in a pretty pink dress.” The show continues to draw a fairly bright line between the characterization of the women in the Department of the Unfaithful - who are terrorizing certain people, true, but also watching out for each other after ending up down on their luck – and the general run of men in Ghost Valley, who are basically rotten sociopaths straight out of Batman’s rogues gallery and will sell you out in a minute for their own gain. Yes, this has been made fairly explicit in Wen Kexing’s and A-Xiang’s commentary in past eps and later in this ep about trying to get the Department of the Unfaithful out of the line of fire while not caring if the jianghu burns down the rest of Ghost Valley, but this isn’t just favoritism or a whim, just some fond memories of Luo Fumeng being kind to them a couple of times in the past. I think there’s some commentary here on the kind of men who are so far gone they find themselves outside the bounds of “civilized” society and the kind of women who do – how much easier and quicker it is for a woman, that it could be any woman in the wrong circumstances, and how much further gone a man has to be than a woman to be considered a “devil.” We’ve seen these supportive interpersonal relationships among the women since Gu Xiang “adopted” her two girls in the first handful of episodes and told off Lovelace with the threat of Tragicomic Ghost – and the show is continuing to show it, not just tell it. It’s one of the things I’ve found frustrating about Wen Kexing a couple of times in past eps, when he’s trying to get A-Xiang’s two girls, or other women from the Department, to just leave and go do something else – I feel like even though WKX realizes their circumstances and their personalities are different from the rest of his Top Ten Devils, he’s not fully comprehending that they literally have nowhere else to go, that if they had any other options, they wouldn’t have ended up there in the first place. He called the two girls “puppies” when he talked about A-Xiang having to take care of them, but as Ghost Valley master, who’s enforced the independence of and protections for the Department of the Unfaithful, he’s walking away from his own basketful of puppies. Not to mention, this is one of the vanishingly small places in this particular version of the jianghu that we’ve seen women have any autonomy and power. I … think there may have been a few young female cultivators in Yueyang Sect, but while I’d have to go back and watch to be sure, I remember the Hero’s Conference being a whole bunch of men throwing their … weight around. Anyway, I also love that it looks like A-Xiang tries to kick Happy Ghost in the shin, because of course she does.
Visually, they had a cool thing going on there with the Tian Chuang behind WKX falling in concert with WKX lowering his fan, but they didn’t quite coordinate it enough, and then they cut away too soon. Bah. It was set up to be a very cool visual, if only they had committed to it. Meanwhile Duan Pengju, this asshole, omg. He’s trying to pull off the Collar of Evil and is not succeeding. Srsly, his Collar of Evil is droopy. It doesn’t stop him from monologuing like he’s the actual villain and not some sad-sack lackey. You showed the correct amount of amused disdain during your interaction, but I can’t believe you left him alive at the end of it, Wen Kexing.
I wasn’t really feeling Jing Beiyuan and Wu Xi up until this ep when Jing Beiyuan was teasing A-Xiang about her lack of shame over running away with her lover. OK, fine, you can stay, Qi Ye. Also, wow. Speaking of lack of shame, I can’t believe you just accused your husband of bride kidnapping right in front of everyone’s salads, because that is totally what just happened there.
So the band is (almost all) back together, minus Chengling, who has definitely found out in the worst possible way that one of his dads is the terrifying master of the Ghost Valley that massacred his family and sect. So, this should go well.
Lol at Xie’er lounging in Wen Kexing’s Ghost Valley master seat like some kind of consort. He’s already got a husband, Xie’er. One that would not be happy with a concubine running around, I think. I do wonder what the full scope of their plan/understanding is, bubbling away under this stare-down.
A note – WKX’s hair is styled differently in this ep in the Ghost Valley master scenes than it has been before. Previously, those side bangs were further forward and a little bit chunkier, which, I think, narrowed his face and also helped emphasize the wild-eyed look. They’re wispier and back further, now, which I think softens his face, even when he’s trying to look imposing. Makes him look more, dare I say, human.
And now, I’m going to go have a few Han Ying/Bi Xingming thoughts, actually. God, those months after ZZS left, can you imagine what that was like for them? Han Ying having watched those nails placed in Bi Xingming’s shifu in the first ep, and then having to turn around and go to Bi Xingming and tell him that ZZS was gone, with the seven nails in him? Both of them trying to hold the Four Seasons Remnants together – and then Ying-ge comes back one day and says he’s found ZZS? Mutual aid and comfort, my dudes. Also some projection. I’m just sayin’. Meet me, I guess - this kind of sideline action and extremely rare pair thing is how I tend to roll.
