Bro, I get defending your ship and "debating" about who you believe is the real couple but literally why is Jimin & Jk's bond always accused of being fake. I'm tired of this fanservice term. Can people not believe Jimin & Jk are with other members without thinking they play shit up for the camera? Is this really what the fandom has come to?

Unfortunately anon, it is what the fandom has come to. They do it for reasons only they know of. But the obvious thing here is- this is Jimin and Jungkook we're talking about. And that on it's own is enough for them to be crucified.

It has become a norm to hate on anyone who is a part of BTS, or related to BTS in any way...wether as a fan or a coworker, or a family member. So it doesn't help that Jikook, of the famous BTS, and the two biggest soloists of the group are close. Anyone would hate them, and sometimes it be your own people! As much as Armys like to say you aren't an Army if you hate any of the members, but it's true. Sometimes it be the same Armys hating on these two.

I don't know about you Anon, but from what I've seen since I joined the fandom, jikook's biggest haters aren't the kpoppies, or locals.. whatever people prefer to call them.

6.It's the hyung line stans. I think you would know why I'm even saying this. For some reason, the hyungs don't have as much support as the maknaes, and who gets affected at the end of the day? Jikook. Why? Coz they're Jimin, and Jungkook. “ That is how they keep themselves relevant, atleast my fave doesn't have to resolve to fan service to sell, unlike Pigmin and Payolakook 🤢”

5. VMINers... These two are the soulmates of BTS,as we know. And Jungkook, “ separated” them. He “ played” besties. And this came directly from a girl on TikTok, legit..💀

4. KTHs... These are the V lovers. As the most followed on IG, I observed that a lot of people expected him to be the biggest soloist. And also because of his acting career, his model like figure- I mean he's perfect in all ways. And it is a lot of the subgroup that never ever expected Jimin to thrive alone. As time went on, they threw tantrums that V was being mistreated by Armys, BTS and HYBE. And we all know who got the most hate; Jungkook. The one man who was supposed to take care of V,his boyfriend! Did you know, that 99.9 % of taekookers are V biases? Now we all know 😀 and he's blamed for not supporting Taehyung, for not rebelling against HYBE that treated V unfairly.

3. JJKs...these are well known Y/Ns of the fandom; Jungkook stans. Mostly where the homophobia comes from, within the fandom. If I'm not wrong, there's a famous Wattpad story called motorsport..? And the biggest JK story ...I forgot what they call it. Oh yeah, mutual help!! And this is not a hate for the authors in any way. The JJKs love this type of thing, they j*rk of to these things. They write “ Jungkook's the type of boyfriend to-” . And what happens when they see Jimin jumping on JK's back and inhaling him?? “Jungkook is straight, Jimin is just an attention seeker, he loves queerbaiting so bad!” And if you haven't yet noticed, most JJKs love Jungkook as a soloist. They don't give a sh*t about any other member. BTS would be nothing without Jungkook, and the JK validation goes crazy, so Jimin is using him. Jimin is fake, and whatever he does with JK is only to help himself. Poor Jungkook...

2. I don't even know what to call these ones. But there's a certain subgroup within this fandom that believes it is jungkook's duty to end all the delusions in this fandom. They're the gossipers of the fandom. The drama lovers. They think BTS is Hollywood in some way. If Jimin laughs with Jimin today, they run to shipper accounts to find out what their opinion is. Tomorrow he laughs with Jin, they go to the senseless shippers accounts to hear the tea. They get confused in between, feel bad for the poor members whom apparently jungkook's switches like his underwear. They want Jungkook to have a stand. Now they ask themselves, and irritate others on the media,“ why doesn't Jungkook hug V when he knew Jimin was watching?? Why didn't he laugh at Jhope's joke? Why doesn't he just be decisive and love one member?” All because they decided to entertain the shipping drama...Now Jungkook is the enemy

1. I know a lot of people would disagree with this one. I mean no one wants their faves to be treated unfairly, and there is a softness towards one's own bias. But this is a truth that people deny still, to this day. No one gets hate like Jungkook in this fandom. Not outside, WITHIN the fandom... Yes, the hyung line is overlooked, Jimin is hated by KTHs, and V too is hated. But when one person out there finally decides to talk about Jungkook and the hate he's getting, it's all “ it happens to other members too” . It's suddenly, “ he's famous, he should have known” when sasaengs invade his privacy. “ Jungkook shouldn't get anything this time, let's vote for RM, JK will be happy that his hyung won!”

I absolutely agree that all members get hate, and this isn't a competition where one member's pain should be compared with another. But you also know what's not fair? Refusing to acknowledge that Jungkook is at the centre of almost everything here, centre of the BTS ships, centre of his own group, and the maknae. People refuse to just take their eyes off their bias just once, and see that Jungkook is getting hate from all sides of the fandom. He's always the one to throw under the bus, the one who will be “okay” at the end of the day. And I know it's taking forever to say this one thing, but people have resentment towards Jungkook in this fandom, and some don't even know it. It only took one album for people to expose themselves. And no one hates Jungkook in this fandom like a PJM!

“Look at how Jimin invested in his album, nothing was handed to him. He even sang in Korean, and got to the top! He worked so hard. Why should he be no.2 ? Especially to that Jungkook whom the entire fandom got his back, and scooter also? His songs weren't even all that!”

And in case no one here knows, Jikookers are 99.9% PJMs 😹😹. People can say whatever they want, but PJMs be acting like they graduated from Harvard. Like they're the ones who birthed Jimin. Just like KTHs and VMINers, they think their biases are suffering while everyone's got jungkook's back. They don't see that they have Jungkook as a servant who has to kiss the ground Jimin walks on, kiss his feet, compliment him, just be whipped for him. They see themselves as Jimin Park's twin flame. I don't even have to say anything more...just go and see what people are saying about Are You Sure , and recently if you're a Twitter person, a Jikookers GC was exposed... Go and see what all they say about JK (and V)💀💀

Anyways anon, I don't know if you'll agree with me, but I just pointed out what I see everyday. Not everyone in these subgroups is like that, but majority here is overshadowing the good ones🤷. And these are the people who degrade the relationship that Jimin and Jungkook have. They cannot deny that they're an energy, a force, and they're tight like this 🤞. So what will they say?? Fan service. They cannot unsee the cuddles in AYS, so they'll say it's scripted. They cannot comprehend that Jungkook and Jimin are men, and they play rough, so they'll call Jungkook abusive for the same thing their fragile Mimi just did to Jungkook a few minutes ago.

I mean you can't say you don't know what happens when two famous people, with an insane chemistry, and a large following are also close, can you? 🤷 And coming to your real ask..( I'm so sorry for straying 😭)... There are people who genuinely believe Jikook are dating other members, and they'll do anything to prove it, even if it means calling jikook a script. And some of these Yoonmin shippers are taekookers who want to keep their accessory Jungkook. Some are PJMs who hate Jungkook coz KTHs hate Jimin.

Jaehyun performed 10+1 of his songs and 3 covers. Some songs had many lipsyncing parts. Before starting real concerts Jaehyun should work on his vocal endurance to not need to rely on backtrack so much. A full concert is 20+ songs, and he will dance for sure, so... He tried to play it off, make fun of himself for being out of breath, but it won't fly with non-core fans.

Of course, Jae had a heck of a October schedule (he should be very tired physically and mentally) and didn't have enough time to prepare, still...

Everyone wants concerts for their faves, but the reality is that not all neos are Doyoung or Taeyong (who almost always raps during all difficult choreos). Jaehyunie is not ready yet. Hopefully, the army band experience will help him.

Ah, but Jae's voice really suits songs like Try again...

Kokoreva was quite lovely in her Aurora debut! I could definitely sense her nerves in the beginning, and there were a couple bobbles, noticeably at the hellish start of the Wedding PPD. My only quibble, and I think this will come with time, is that she came across a bit too eager to please (read semi-frozen smile) rather than moving with an inherent regal elegance. Hopefully, as she grows into the role, I think we’ll see her approach it with more calm and bravado.

Overchenko was fine as Prince Desire, not particularly expressive, but this is not a psychologically complex character. Polished technique and elegance carry the day. Semyon Chudin is my fave at the Bolshoi.

Alena Kovaleva is technically perfect as the Lilac Fairy, but she also had a frozen smile when I hoped she would express a bit more gravitas. It felt a bit off-tune.

One dancer that really caught my eye is Uliana Moksheva as the Silver Fairy. She had such lovely port de bras and lightness that I thought she must be a Vaganova girl, but I read up and learned that she graduated a couple years ago from Perm and was just promoted to soloist. I think she has star qualities and I’m eager to see more of her.

Seeing Margarita Schrainer as the Diamond Fairy really made me want to see her as Aurora. I think she would be wonderful.

One downer was Princess Florine & Bluebird. Their costumes were….mint green. Just wretched and unflattering. It made Anastasia Staskyevich look like quite old. Klim Efimov just looked tired by the end of the PDD, like he was hanging on for dear life.

And….I recorded my screen only to discover that I didn’t grab sound! 🤦🏽‍♀️So in lieu of what I hoped to share, I’ll leave you with Olga Smirnova, who (other than Obratzsova) is my favorite Bolshoi Aurora.

TdV Hamburg review!!

I saw two shows with the same cast (of note: Vincent van Gorp as Alfred, Kristin Backes as Sarah, Simon Loughton as Krolock) and hence feel like I have a pretty well-rounded view of this production (at least w this cast). I'm glad I went twice because things that bothered me in the matinee had less of an impact on the evening show!

TL;DR - Liked it a surprising amount though not sure how much of that is due to wishful thinking XD In any case, it's leagues better than Stuttgart 2021.

Spoilers/details:

- Sarah and Alfred both hear the "sei bereit" in nie gesehn and Krolock sings gott ist tot to both of them!!! The overall impression is that both are being tempted, Alfred just resists and hesitates more. Which I enjoy hehehe

- I like Simon's Krolock overall, he is a bisexual dirty old man with some Flair akdklsls. The more time goes on the less I like tenor/high voiced Krolocks but he had some great classical singing deep notes so he seems like a good mix, I'll take it. I couldn't altogether sense any Deep Depths Of Pain in Gier but it's ok, not my main fave number in the show anyway.

- Paolo Valenti as Nightmare Alfred is a highlight, and so were the other dance soloists (Ian Vrolijk & Kezia Coulson) tbh hehe. I love Carpe Noctem and they delivered. The choreography seems lots less straightwashed than in covid safety measure times (I guess I can excuse it in hindsight then, since it's proven temporary). Also I always love white vamp's slutty little black lace stockings hehehe

- Vincent van Gorp's Alfred was much better in the evening than in the matinee. I liked him from Sie irren onwards in both shows, but I really need Alfred to have enough of an "edge" to him, some level of seriousness in his devotion to Sarah, and in the matinee he just seemed cutesy and too naive. But his overall demeanor was a lot more to my liking in the evening (save for a few choices which must come from the direction, ie. he sulks and pouts after Sarah tricks the bath from him... I never fail to mourn the deleted verse where Alfred basically says he's into the teasing lol). Bonus points for what I read as lots and lots of repressed bisexuality in vor dem schloss hehehe

- TANZSAAL!!!! We get the best of everything: Alfred tries to run to Sarah at multiple points (most touchingly when she falls to the floor), only stopped by the prof - AND he faints during the bite >:))) and literally fans himself 😌 We also get a reluctant/disillusioned Sarah, which is my preference

- Kristin Backes as Sarah is great, she reminds me a lot of Sarah Brightman (in the poto music video which is all I've seen of her). Amazing vocals (even in roten stiefel which gets pitchy with so many Sarahs), convincing arc, no notes 😌

- Oooh another fun thing: Nightmare Solo 1 was covered by Herbert in the show I saw (Jonas Steppe was off so I had Andres Vercoutere, he did great), and Nightmare Solo 2 is a woman!!! (Anne Hoth). Very enjoyable, their voices mix so nicely >:)

- I had the pleasure of seeing Anja Backus as Magda once again (she was one of the big solid wins of Stuttgart 2021 for me, even if some other things in that prod were quite lacking). And idk I think everyone who sees her unanimously agrees that she slays 😌😂

- ANYWAY to return to individual scenes...... What sold this prod for me the most was the combo of draussen 2 (mostly in terms of Sarah and Alfred) and the electric finale (which you can't really fail at if everyone gives their all, which they did). In draussen2 Sarah was soooo fun (the switch seemed natural and hmm shall we just say that everything she did after that was pretty hot) AND ALFRED. Omg alfred... I really like how it went for him hehe, very bloodthirsty, lunges for the professor three times before Sarah stops him... The thing about this prod is that he kind of pulls Sarah close and they kiss super romantically (thats what I think I saw) before agreeing to maul the audience - which they go to do hand in hand. And like mmmmmmm this is why I watch this show!!!! It's about the Central Dark Romance (😂😎 sorry i'm annoying about my ship on purpose but omg I feel so vindicated) and the level of loss of morals and depravity it took to finally get there... ahhhhh

So are jk stans finally realizing that their fave is mediocre af and isn't shit without the 🛴/hybe push. This man just doesn't live up to the hype that the company created for him, especially when you compare his work to the other 6 members who are clearly miles ahead of him artistically. The main purpose of chapter 2 was for all 7 of them to grow individually to help the group continue to grow as well, and jk is the only member who didn't grow. Jk literally had an album of justin bieber rejects handed to him and called it a day. Idk what jk plans on bringing to the table for chapter 3 artistically.

Well to be fair (and this is my unbiased opinion no matter how much it seems like it isn’t lol) I don’t think any of BTS have really grown outside of Jimin and maybe Joon 🤷🏾‍♀️ (Joon because of what he said in that mínimoni special imo I’d have to see what he’d do on his next project to really confirm it)

TH also had an album handed to him. Granted it still had his “brand” stamp on it, but what kind of growth can happen when other people are basically doing all the work for you? Yoongi stuck on the same sound as a soloist but when it comes to producing I’d say there’s more growth there. There was experimentation by some of them, but that’s not really “growth”. And I’m sure they’ve all gained experience from chapter two that they could apply going forward but other than that everything was still expected. Nothing any of the other members outside of Jimin have done has me excited about the direction chapter 3 could take cause I just haven’t been thrilled with any of their releases.

I can’t see JK straying from the picked song path Scooter has given him. Especially since his first real venture into being hands on in his music since SWY with NLG was a bust he might feel apprehensive. (If him apologizing for that song could be any indication) But even with that, he said he gets a list of songs to listen to and picks the ones he thinks are the best so… 💀

But he needs to keep at it though. Even if it was through some tracks on SC like BTS used to do. He needs to get back into the process again. With JJKS, I don’t think they ever really expected like any real *artsy* output from him. They basically wanted the same Korean Justin Bieber that Scooter is trying to portray him as but with actual good music. And it’s not that they think he is mediocre just his music, cause in truth and superficially, JK does have the seeds of a pop soloist. And they also know JK’s numbers are inflated they just don’t care. It helps with the brand image so why would they lmao.

Hey, friends! I’m struggling with writing the recap for episode one of Build Up on MNET because I want to stop and give you the background on everyone, which makes the recap really hard to follow. So I figure I’ll spend some time giving you their backgrounds in four separate posts, to help you get to know the guys. I mention things like where else you may have seen them, if they're in an idol group, who knows who, etc, as well as my opinion of their voice based on their teaser performance. I think it’ll make the recaps easier, both to read and to write. In this first post of four, I’ll be talking about the twelve contestants who chose to join the “Allround” category, as opposed to “Soul”, “Power”, or “Unique.” Let’s go!

Before we go on, I just want to let you know that I’ll sharing my informed opinion on their singing voices. I am going to be a little bit harder on them than I am on singers on Boys Planet, with the understanding that these are all great vocalists. We’re looking for the S+ tier guys amongst a group that is A tier at worst. So if I say anything a bit negative about a fave of yours, understand that I’m not saying that he’s a bad singer! Every guy here is an excellent singer. Cool? Cool! 

I also have to apologize, but most of my screenshots are going to be pretty awkward. The video I'm watching makes it really hard to use because every time you pause it, it opens all sorts of porny popups. When it's paused, it has a huge pause symbol in the middle of the picture. So I have to try to take screen shots while it's in motion. It's not easy! Hope you understand.

Choi Suhwan

Suhwan is currently a soloist. He’s released a few digital singles, none of which have really taken off, unfortunately. You might remember him from ProduceX 101, where he made it to episode 11, so the final cut before the finale, finishing in 28th place. Pretty good!

He was V17, doing a cover of Energetic by Wanna One. I wasn’t blown away by that performance -- it sounded a little processed, and I wasn’t completely sure it was live --  so I sought out another one. Here’s a live performance of his song Losing Sleep. Unfortunately, in this performance, I found his voice a little too nasal and affected to be to my taste, and he had serious issues with his upper mix. He’s not a terrible singer, but there are a lot of stronger singers on this show. Or maybe I’m wrong and he’ll do better next time. Fighting! 

Bitsaeon

Bitsaeon is 28, and is the main vocalist from M.O.N.T. He seems to have a predilection for soft fuzzy sweaters. He was V36, singing Rose Blossom by H1-Key, and all I wrote down in my notes was “this is just a really nice voice.” I just really liked it. Clean, smooth, easy to listen to.

I think this performance of Creep by Radiohead shows both what I like and what I don’t like as much about his performances. He does a lot of this soft whisper singing in his covers, which seems like a waste of what he can do. I love his full belts -- they’re so good. I want to hear him sing full-on more often in songs, like he did with Rose Blossom.  

M.O.N.T. has a whole complicated dealie that I just don’t have the energy to figure out -- the wikipedia page explains some of it. They’re mainly a three member group, with a leader, a rapper, and a main vocal. They haven’t put out any singles in a while, so I’m not sure what’s going on with them. 

Incidentally, Bitsaeon almost certain knows Jay reasonably well. Jay was involved in this thing called MONT Arena that was supposed to collect more members for MONT, so along the way I’m sure they met. In fact, Jay is still signed to the same agency as them (along with a few other agencies).

Seunghun

Seunghun is 24 and a member of CIX. His teaser song was V01, Rain by Paul Kim, and his performance was kind of… not my favorite. He sounded at times almost like he had a cold, and at other times I’m pretty sure he went off key -- I don’t know the song so I can’t be sure but it sounded off. He showed a lack of agility on one of his vocal runs, which means that as he tried to sing a lot of different notes all in a row, he had trouble transitioning from note to note quickly and hitting them all neatly. He had to switch awkwardly to falsetto to hit a single high note in the middle of a line, which is kind of not the goal. I think he may just have been nervous or having an off day. 

Seunghun also competed on YG Treasure Box, which I didn’t watch, but maybe you did. 

Let’s talk about CIX, baby! (Ok, that joke relies on you pronouncing it “six” but it’s really pronounced “see-eye-ex,” if you read the hangul). 

CIX is a five-member group under C9 entertainment, which is also the home to Cignature and Epex. CIX features Wanna One’s Bae Jinyoung, who is the center and face of the group. As sometimes happens in cases like this, the member who was in the big Produce group is famous and attracts stans, while sometimes the rest of the group just doesn’t get as much love, and the group as a whole suffers. See also: Gugudan, Weki Meki. However, CIX does ok. Per genius.com, “The group has released several Top 10 albums in South Korea, including Hello Chapter Ø: Hello, Strange Dream which gave them their first chart-topper in the country. The group’s singles have also consistently landed in the Circle Music chart.” So CIX is a little bit closer to say, IVE than it is to, say, Weki Meki. 

Personally, I like CIX -- I think the members are talented --  but I don’t love all their songs. However, their song Cinema is so smooth and lovely, it’s like a glass of orange-peach juice for your soul, and that’s in great measure because of their smooth vocals. (Seunghun is the one with the blue hair in that clip, if you want to watch it.) In fact, this is the song I wanted to listen to in the car on the way to the hospital to have surgery a year or two ago when I was feeling pretty scared. My fella said, “This is nice. I like this.” So if you never heard it, give it a chance. I’m looking forward to getting to know Seunghun a bit better and seeing him on a better day.  

Yeo One

Yeo One is 28, and is a lead vocalist for Pentagon. I don’t have to tell you about Pentagon, right? Another excellent group who lost a member and whose popularity has ebbed and flowed. If you watched Boys Planet, you know about Hui, and you know that I like Pentagon a lot! 

Yeo One left Cube Entertainment just a few months ago, in October of 2023, along with several other members of Pentagon, so though Pentagon hasn’t disbanded, their further activities will be a bit tricky. He had a sold-out solo concert recently, and was profiled in Rolling Stone Korea, so he’s doing ok for a recently solo artist. Yeo One is a lead vocalist of Pentagon, not one of their two main vocalist, and on kprofiles, he actually ranks in last place in the popularity poll. He often would be given pretty brief lines in most Pentagon songs. But we will get to know him and get to love him on this show, right, team? 

He performed a ballad for his teaser (V40) and all I wrote in my note to myself is “I hate songs like this so much I almost can’t think straight.” So, instead, I found this little song that apparently he wrote and performed himself -- it’s light and charming. It sounds like a guy sitting by the fire making up a song on guitar and singing it to himself. He’s not a super skilled vocalist from what I’ve heard thus far, not a powerhouse like Hui, but he has a charming vocal color and is just sort of a generally a lovable dude.  

Hwang Inhyuk

Inhyeock / Inhyuk (I’ve seen it transliterated both ways -- both would be 인혁 in Hangul) is 26 and is apparently both a soloist and a member of a vocal group called Unison. Unfortunately, I can’t find anything about them since there’s also a Japanese group called “Unison Square Garden” and when you search “Korean vocal group unison” all you get is information about K-pop songs sung in unison, so…. Yeah. Inhyuk is also a composer and lyricist, and has competed on I Can See Your Voice (I’m not sure which season) and Sing for Gold. 

He was V29 and performed a song called The First Day. Again, my perspective is skewed because it’s another feckin’ ballad and no thank you. The opening section when he’s singing in a soft, almost gruff voice is really charming, though. It’s so different from what you’d expect from his appearance and general demeanor. He has a really distinct vocal color, and I think he should have chosen “unique” rather than “allround.” Once he heads into the chorus, which requires belting some higher notes, his voice falters a bit. I just get that feeling that maybe he can do better than what he showed in this teaser. Maybe he wasn’t warmed up properly, or maybe he had a bit of a cold, something like that. The potential is there and I sense training was involved. I’m going to keep an open mind about him. 

Geonu

Geonu is from Just B and is 22. In addition to going on I-land, he also went on a show called Dancing High, which also featured Seo Won who you may remember from Boys Planet. God, there are so many of these shows. I kind of remember Geonu from I-land, where he did pretty well, making it close to the end. It’s kind of a shame that he didn’t make it into Enhypen since Enhypen is definitely short on vocalists. 

If you want to check out one of Geonu’s previous performances, here he is doing a duet performance of BTS’s Butterfly on I-land with Heesung (who did go on to debut in Enhypen). 

Geonu has gotten a bit better since then; here is his audition for this show, where he was V10. 

His upper mixed register has gotten stronger and a lot less breathy compared to when he was on I-land, but he seems to have developed an unpleasant nasality. Maybe being on this show will spur him to adjust his methodology. He has a really pleasant vocal color and a lot of potential.

Jang Intae

Per my online sleuthing, Intae, age 27, is a singer-songwriter and is one half of the duo 415. (Their group is named for the fact that both members were born on April 15th, 1997.) 415 has put out seven digital singles and performed a few OSTs, but their MVs generally get fewer than 10,000 views. I think his general style and vibe isn’t what I personally look for in a musician -- it’s a bit too “acoustic lite” -- but I bet a lot of people would like what he and his duo partner do, if people gave them a chance. 

His teaser performance, V37, was Missing You by BTOB (a song performed on Girls Planet 999, if it sounds familiar to you -- a member of BTOB is on this show's judging panel). It started off really nasal, but got a bit better as it went along. He strained a bit on the high notes, unfortunately. It wasn’t the best performance, but I’m not going to condemn him for 90 seconds of imperfect singing. I hope that as I see more from him, he gets to show more of what he can do.

Jeong Yoonseo

Jeong Yoonseo is a trainee, and little info is available about him. He’s V32, performing Starlight by Taeil. There are a lot of background vocals -- I think there’s a guide track behind him the whole time! -- so it’s hard to pick out his pure voice. It sounds nice from what I can hear.  That’s kind of all I got! (Side note -- I’ve seen his name listed as Jang, not Jeong, but if you read the hangul, it’s Jeong, so IDK.) 

Hong Seongjun

Seongjun is 24 and is (was?) a member of a group called BDC, a three member group under Brandnew Music that debuted in the latter end of the pandemic, in September 2020. All three members had been on ProduceX 101. Seongun himself was eliminated in 51st place. They put out several comebacks but never really caught on.

On their kprofiles page, it says “On August 18, 2023, BRANDNEW MUSIC officially announced that BDC will end all official promotions as artists under the company on August 26, 2023, after they mutually decided to end their contracts. Thereafter, the group have been active in Japan and have a fan meeting planned in Korea on December 3, 2023.” I’m not sure what to make of that, but it doesn’t sound great obviously. 

I went to check out their M/Vs and remembered that I had actually listened to Moon Rider for a few months there at some point. Pretty decent song, but it got only 3.6 million views. I think it’s just kind of tough for three member groups. 

He was V27 and sang a chipper acoustic little song by 10cm. For me, him having such heavy backup vocals for so much of the song kind of makes me wonder, why would you do that?  It’s the same thing as the situation with Yoonseo. Isn’t the point to show their vocals? That said, this was a pleasant enough performance -- clean and sweet, with decent agility in some of the runs -- but not something I’m dying to listen to over and over. I think he didn’t really understand the assignment and chose something that would be nice to perform with people watching you, instead of something to sing in the dark.

Jeong Inseong

Inseong is 29 and is main vocal of a group called KNK. 

He was V06, performing a song called Letting Go by Day6. I looked it up and this song came out on March 28, 2016 -- just a few weeks after Lim Junhyeok had to leave that group. It being called “Letting Go” is a bit… pointed. Kind of like when f(x) did a song called Four Walls as their first comeback (and last) as a four-member group. Anyway… I really liked this. I just wrote in my notes, “ooh, likey.” This is just so good, I don’t even know how to pick it apart. It’s just a combination of stellar technique and smooth natural vocal color. He does have to go into falsetto to hit a super high note, but he transitions almost instantly. This is good stuff. 

KNK debuted in 2016 as a 5 member group. They left their first agency in 2018 but continued as a group at a new agency, losing one member and gaining a new one. Over the last few years, two more members have quit and one more joined, leaving four in the group as of now. 

Their most recent single, Ride, came out in September 2020 and currently has about 1.7 million views on Youtube. It’s so easy to tell when Inseong is singing -- it’s like when Kihyun sings in MonstaX and you’re just like YES, come THROUGH. I threw Ride on my playlist just so I can hear more Inseong. 

Inseong has been in a bunch of music shows, and also participated in Mixnine, so he may know the other Mixnine contestants, Ma Jaekhyung from Romeo and Donghun from A.C.E. However, he had to withdraw early from the show, so maybe not.

Taehwan

Taehwan, 30, is the leader and main vocalist of Vanner, and was V13, singing Goodbye by Park Hyo Shin. You probably know by now that I’m not much of a ballad girl, but at least this is sung simply, with a really warm, textured voice. He does sound really pinched on the higher notes, like his throat is closing, and he gets a bit nasal at times, as well. In my opinion, he lacks technique, but has a lot of natural talent. He also has a great smile. 

Vanner is a five member group that debuted in 2019. They had a lot of support as they debuted, and even got significant crowdfunding. They went on Peaktime, as did many other lesser known groups -- and they won! Good for Vanner. Their most recent EP charted very well overseas. Their song Performer, released five months ago, has 8.7 million views on Youtube, and their song Jackpot, released on Jan 30, 2024, already had almost 4 million views at the time of writing, an incredible performance for less than a week. So it looks like Vanner is really starting to take off.

Taehwan may have met Ma Jaekyung, Bitsaeon, and Hong Seongjun when they competed on Peak Time.

Ji Yeonwoo

Yeonwoo is another trainee I just don’t know much about. Apparently he went on a show called Wild Idol, which I haven’t seen. But I do know that his teaser song, V24, Suffer by Charlie Puth, was great. A great combination of a song I actually liked and a voice I really liked. He has great agility, leaping up into falsetto and back down again. He does get a bit pinched sometimes on higher notes, but for whatever reason, it doesn’t bother me. Maybe it’s just I’m so glad it’s not a ballad!

my issue(s) with the kpop community

ok, i KNOW i'm a kpop stan myself but can we pretty please use our noggins for their intended purpose?? obvs not targeted towards ALL stans, but some of y'all jump the the wildest of conclusions very quickly.

one of the things that truly baffled me at first sight was that some internet dwellers decided to sit on zb1's gunwook for eating strawberries. literal fruits. i get it, it was nawt bro's cake but cut my homie some slack!! if the other members felt shit that he devoured eleven strawberries then they probably would've expressed that by now. i don't think zb1 wants some little internet pussies to convey their emotions for them.

another thing that got me bewildered was the whole eruption after the taeil from nct announcement. like, this paragraph is not defending that man by the slightest... however why are some of these people coming on here being like "i feel so bad for taeil stans..." and "omg ppl that spent money on taeil must be in pain :(("... girl... what about the victims??? what about the people that were actually violated??? you're saying you're sorry for someone that spent a flabbergasting amount of money on a male idol instead of firstly expressing condolences for the victims?? like, yeah, i DO feel bad for people that have spent money on taeil's merchandise... but girl there are worse things happening right now. the world isn't going to collapse because you didn't burn your taeil photocards. instead, you should try validate the real victims by not discussing such unnecessary things.

the whole seunghan thing genuinely made my jaw unhinge and drop several feet below because GIRL... people dancing casually after sending hundreds of FUNERAL WREATHS (with death threats on them) is actually batshit crazy. no, because.... mans came back just to instantly be pushed away. what? because you k-netizens couldn't handle the fact he had a life before debut and that he, i dunno, is a human??? parasocial ahh because GIRRRRRRRRRLLLLLL. yk i want to be an idol (my ass has NOT auditioned yet) but it's things like this that stop me from wanting to become one. if my twitter, instagram, tiktok, all that jazz resurfaced as an idol and especially during debut... i'd sob because people will over-analyse it all. like, just because seunghan did this does not make him horrible now!!! i know the smoking was slightly more controversial because it's unhealthy, but dating?? DATING??? i was genuinely baffled beyond my utmost belief at the sheer SHOCK. the photos.... people on weverse setting the photos as their pfps, people on twitter posting 'reminders' with the photos... why dod they have those saved??? it's not only obsessive, but kind of parasocial that you're acting like you got wrongingly cheated on by a guy who doesn't even know who you are. i really hope our GOAT seunghan comes back as a soloist or something (hopefully under good management too) because he, everything aside, spent a lot of time training to be an idol just for this to happen.

also not directly a certain idol but why do we, as kpop stans, care about an idols weight and appearance so much?? i know majority of stans are normal and not weird af but there's a minority that actually put their little nerd glasses on and their fingers up that complain like "omg (insert female idol) lowkey lookin big back these days) LIKE HUHHH??? girl please weigh yourself and tell us the result before calling someone fat. especially a random celebrity of all people. all jokes aside, i'm sure the person criticizing an idols weight would feel quite stink if someone did the same to them. so just, uh, dont??? also people that complain when idols dye their hair something different because they like a certain color on that idol are genuinely crazy. like, take a step back and relax. because.... wdym you're having cardiac arrest just because your fave left their blonde era...... i think we as fans shouldn't be so focused on the little things and just enjoy the art!! the music!! the dance!! yes, appearance comes along with it, but it isn't like their stylist is going to make them look like that ratatouille rat....

the outfits are so cute, the choreography is amazing, the bubbles are a nice touch rather than confetti and i like that they’re foggy when they pop!! i know it’s bc of rv that i like it so much but i genuinely would think this was nice if anybody else did it bc it’s so funnnn 😣 i just luv my girls… i can’t believe they didn’t win for this one!

if not reve though since i’m a bit biased ofc… nightwalker by ten! his choreo is really good and fits the song well, plus he has a really angelic voice esp considering hes in the same group that made baggy jeans… hes so amazing i’m in awe of his creative direction tbh (well idk if it was him but hes a soloist for this so…?) and how well it translated to a competition stage haha if u have time watch the nightwalker mv! the choreo that filled in the mv scene blanks are actually so cool??

SO TRUE revali is out here making gif sets of link and dissecting all of his lyrics but he would absolutely deny this to like.. urbosa and his other irls

im apparently incapable of coming up with my own plot ideas so im gonna take inspiration from a personal favorite of mine 🤭 im getting blueberry eyes vibes from this prompt, like what if revali posted like, kpop dance covers or smth and he streamed himself learning dances, and link, during a break from one of his schedules, comes across revali's channel and watches his streams, and he's really impressed! because it's a super hard dance, like guerrilla or something. so link subscribes (with his anonymous personal account sjdbsjf, so it's not obvious that he's a famous idol) and keeps coming back whenever revali goes live. and revali recognizes this anonymous username as a regular viewer of his, and so occasionally they'll have a conversation through the chat box. and revali learns that link dances too! (he doesn't realize that link is the original artist for several of the songs revali has covered) and so they talk about dances and kpop for a bit which is fun goodbye my ideas are so bland

ANYWAYS yes revali is also running a stan account for link. tbh I'm not super familiar with a lot of soloists so I don't have a great example of what kind of an artist link would be. even though I've talked about him being a hip hop dancer here and here, I think if he were a soloist I'm getting jimin vibes from him? like esp face era, the more contemporary vibes of like crazy along with the powerful vocals of set me free pt2, I rlly feel like link would have that all-rounder vibe with an emphasis on angsty contemporary yk? but occasionally he'll do a fun song like pop or gogo just to vibe, which is honestly so slay of him

when link has a comeback, first revali streams the fuck outta the mv, like it has 2M views in the first 12 hours and revali is definitely responsible for half of those views. haters are talking about how much the song sucks or whatever and revali is in the comments on ALL those posts defending his fave to the max 😭 after he's done doing that, he starts making gif sets and reblogging fanart ppl made. then he writes an entire essay on how this song changed the industry and how link is more talented that anyone else's faves. meanwhile urbosa is like girl stop fangirling in your room come outside and touch some grass 🤨

then after that, revali goes live to start learning the choreo for the title track (which is actually insane because the song just came out a day ago and he's learning it based on one fancam from the comeback stage). and link sees him learning his dance and is like literally so impressed bc?? it's a very hard dance and he has to admit that revali is talented by learning it just from one video

Controversial opinion time! I see a lot of people saying Kurt didn’t get this solo for sectionals or whatever. But he did get a lot more than others - like a fully developed characterization and relationship. He also got a relationship with a developed parent and family which others didn’t. So his fans are lucky in that respect.

okayyy obviously i dont disagree with you about all that bc its true. i really think kurt was THE most developed character on the show. plus he really seemed to be (one of) the only characters that actually kept growing forward instead of having a dozen redundant backslides like everyone else seemed to

okay so. kurt did get a ton of good solos. aaand i think almost every one of them was amazing. like maybe some aren't my personal faves but i think they're all good (except i'll remember, my worst enemy </3 [and even then its just the context thats stinky])

it wasnt like with rachel or blaine or yes i'm sorry even mercedes who had like a dozen throwaway solos that all sound the same and it's like obviously you sound good but we've heard this a million times before and im boreddd. obviously personal music taste is going to factor in but i think kurt's range of solos were like the least repetitive and boring lmao (out of those listed above. i think other characters had a good variety)

plus like a good chunk of the "solos" listed on kurt's wiki page are like "album version only" bc it was a duet in the show. defying gravity, dcfma, bring him home, and a house is not a home are all listed under his solos (and out of those, i still count ahinah as a solo cause finn had like one dusty line and its easy to ignore) but he only had 13 real true solos throughout the show

he was the only original club member not to get even one last solo in s6 (while rachel had 4, mercedes had 3, and even sam and santana got their own)

also there were plenty of instances of him having a solo line in a group song that was also album only and got cut in the show version :|

Also they weirdly limited his number of duet partners?? like he had a million duets with blaine and rachel, and outside of that, two with mercedes, two with elliott, and two with maggie (that chris had to write in himself) and 5/6 of those were in s5 alone... where were his duets with the rest of the glee club?? where's my kurtana duet, my hevans duet, my kurtina duet, my kartie duet, i could literally go on all day for every club member

ALSO it's like they purposefully wrote in moments for him to sing just to have him not sing. he organizes a whole wedding for his dad and gets the glee club to perform but he doesnt actually get to sing. he organizes a vday party at breadstix but doesnt sing. literally every other major soloist in the club is gone and his big competition moment is like 2 lines. he forms his own goddamn band just to not sing a single word in the first song that they perform. and when his band does perform its 1) in a fantasy sequence and then 2) happens off screen

so idk like i think if you just look at everything he did, it's all pretty good. but once you look deeper and really start to examine it you're like ...wait a minute. like even if he got a lot (especially compared to like quinn or tina) the show still manages to make it feel like he got cheated lmao and i just think they were playing dirty at times

but idk he's my fave so im always gonna want more for him but i am happy with what we do have. and happy he's the best character ever no questions asked uwu

Because I just randomly started thinking about it, here's what I think the Wolf 359 character's favourite kpop girl groups/idols are (sorry bg stans. also very varying levels of thought went into these lol):

Eiffel - he's such a second gen snob. his faves are f(x) and wonder girls, so he never found out they disbanded. post-finale eiffel is less of a snob (though he still prefers second gen) and he adores iz*one, following all of those girls post-iz*one.

Minkowski - soloists > groups. her fave is iu and when she gets back to earth she becomes obsessed with taeyeon.

Hera - nugu stan queen, secretly runs nugu promoter. favourites are purple kiss, ily:1 and lightsum, but secretly her ult is weeekly.

Hilbert - this is the one time i'm not going to adhere to the timeline bc i just know hilbert would be into loona and i can't explain why. he's particularly a 1/3 stan and thinks plastic candy is super underrated. generally tho, he's all about christian horse girl music.

Lovelace - she adores boa more than anything. also f(x), snsd, wonder girls and hyuna (she and eiffel have a big bonding moment over this). when she gets back to earth, she discovers twice and they immediately become her new ult.

Kepler - i know deep in my bones that kepler listens to brown eyed girls religiously. rip kepler, you would have loved warm hole.

Maxwell - the only group she really cared about was red velvet, and she was a ride or die. rip alana maxwell, you would have loved chill kill and 28 reasons.

Jacobi - maxwell got him into red velvet and then it was all downhill for him from there. he stans like fifty groups/idols across all gens but he rides hard for 2ne1, mamamoo, red velvet and brown eyed girls (he and kepler don't know that the other is obsessed with them). when he gets back to earth, he becomes obsessed with clc and doesn't realise they've disbanded until he's in too deep.
