I think a severely underrated part of Tamlins character is that he is compelled to do genuinely kind and good things because its the right thing to do. He had no real reason to protect Lucien and let him live at the spring court (that we are fully aware of), but he did it anyway. He didn't have to set up feyres family like that, but it was the right thing to do. He could have taken the easy way out when he became HL and kept things like his father did, but he didn't! He is a character driven by his moral compass and is shockingly kind despite everything.
