This month’s Animage article was quite loaded with 6 pages of content. It consisted of an illustration with Kohaku and Hisui (2 pages), an interview with Kimura Ryōhei and Urao Takehiro (2 pages), and an interview with Uru (2 pages). That being said, this translation has been split into two parts.
Part 1: Interview with Kimura Ryōhei and Urao Takehiro Part 2: Interview with Uru

The Demon Slayers Have Arrived!
While butting heads with each other, the strength of unity between Towa, Setsuna, and Moroha slowly increases. Watching over and supporting those three girls are the uncle and nephew demon slayer combo.
Towa, Setsuna, and Moroha return to the feudal era from the modern Reiwa era. Lately, they have been slaying more demons together. In episode 5, they defeated one of the “Four Perils”, Tōkotsu; in episode 6, they subdued the demon cats nesting in the old temple. Each has a different goal: Towa’s is to break the spell of the “Dream Butterfly” cast upon Setsuna, Setsuna’s is to fulfill her duties as a demon slayer, and Moroha’s is to defeat demon bounties in order to pay off her debt. However, from spending time together, their teamwork seems to be slowly improving.
Supporting the girls’ efforts are demon slayers Kohaku and Hisui. The two of them show concern for Towa and the others by doing things like taking care of Towa who came from the modern era or providing hints to Setsuna on demon subjugation. Especially Kohaku who has relations with their parents in that he joined forces with them to defeat Naraku. Given that, that could be more reason why he pays attention to the girls. Starting from the reason why the Tree of Ages requested the three girls to “Defeat Kirinmaru and Sesshōmaru” to the existence of Rin sleeping within the Tree of Ages, the circumstances surrounding the three girls is full of mystery. Surely Kohaku and Hisui’s existence will become of help to the girls as they overcome trials.
(Character Bios)
Kohaku When he was a boy, it was said that he “Wasn’t suited to be demon slayer” but now he serves as the head of the clan. He was the one who accepted Setsuna as a demon slayer.
Hisui Miroku and Sango’s child and a demon slayer who fights with Hiraikotsu as his weapon. He did not know Setsuna was a half-demon until he was told by Kaede in episode 3.
Higurashi Towa In order to free her younger sister, Setsuna, from the spell of the Dream Butterfly, she returns to the feudal era. Due to having lived in the modern era for so long, she is somewhat hesitant about fighting demons.
Setsuna A demon slayer who had her sleep and childhood memories stolen by the Dream Butterfly. While she pushes away her elder sister, Towa, who for some reason involves herself with her, she also seems to be concerned for her (Towa).
Moroha In order to repay her debt, she bounty hunts. When she puts on rouge, she becomes “The Country Destroying Beniyasha” and displays unparalleled strength but she falls asleep less than a minute later.
Miroku A monk who previously traveled with Inuyasha. Defeating Naraku, the Wind Tunnel in his right hand disappeared. After the battle, he married Sango and became the father to three children which includes Hisui.
Sango Kohaku’s older demon slayer sister. She previously traveled with Inuyasha and her weapon at the time was Hiraikotsu. She had three children with Miroku: Kin’u, Gyokuto, and Hisui.
That Kohaku Became a Dignified Adult
The Role of Kohaku: Kimura Ryōhei “Kohaku is a character that also appeared in “Inuyasha” but he matured well. When one’s impression of him changes this much, I don’t have to keep Akko-san (Yajima Akiko who voiced Kohaku in his boyhood) in mind so he’s easier to play which is nice. As of now, he has the impression of an adult who doesn’t get into a tight spot or loses composure. They handle him with dignity so I think I can play him without worry.“ (translator’s note: Not sure if I translated that last sentence correctly…)
Kohaku During His Boyhood
Sango’s younger brother. He lost his life to Naraku’s trap but was revived with the power of the Shikon Jewel shard. At first, he was being controlled by Naraku but he regained his memories later on.
Kohaku and Sesshōmaru’s relationship
In the story of “Inuyasha”, Kohaku was always in danger of demons targeting the Shikon Jewel shard. At one point, Sesshōmaru saves Kohaku who had been captured by Byakuya of the Mirage and afterwards, Kohaku accompanies Sesshōmaru on his travels. Normally Sesshōmaru does not get close to others but he did not object to Kohaku travelling with him. It could be that to Sesshōmaru, Kohaku was someone that he could allow to stay near him.
What Did He Inherit from His Father, Miroku?
The Role of Hisui: Urao Takehiro “While Hisui is a little older than Setsuna and the others, he has quite a calm impression. It’s just that he is still young, so he has an unknowing and inexperienced side to him. His uncle is teaching him in that regard. I think Hisui’s strong personality resembles his mother, Sango. The lecherous side of his father, Miroku, hasn’t appeared in Hisui yet so I wonder what I’ll do if he has that kind of a side to him (laughs).”
The Reliable Uncle and the Inexperienced Nephew
— From the start, what sort of impression did you have of the work, “Inuyasha”?
Urao: I’m definitely part of the “Inuyasha” generation. I think I was in upper elementary school when “Inuyasha” started broadcasting. I really liked it and I would watch it every week while eating dinner. The first CD I ever bought with my own allowance was V6’s “CHANGE THE WORLD, Inuyasha first opening song” too.
Kimura: I think I was in high school at the time, so I was right on the cusp of the age for watching anime on a daily basis. I felt it was about time I moved on. It’s just that in regard to “Inuyasha”, it left the impression that it was a work that could be enjoyed not just by kids but also by high schoolers and older. In addition to it being the work of Takahashi Rumiko-san, the creator of my absolute favorite “Ranma ½”, I was working in the industry at the time but I enjoyed it as a viewer.
— Which character left an impression on you?
Urao: My favorite was Shippō. In any case, he’s cute. At the time, I was a real scaredy cat so whenever the demon battles began, I would always look away from the screen (laughs). Within that, Shippō was a comforting existence. I also liked the romantic comedy, so I enjoyed watching the exchanges between Miroku and Sango.
Kimura: The one who left an impression on me was Naraku. At a glance, he didn’t really feel like a final boss. When you look at Sesshōmaru, you know “This guy is strong”. But with Naraku, it’s like “Is this guy strong? What?!”. He could probably win in a fist fight but that air that he has of not allowing you to punch him is something I actually found creepy.
— The current work continues the world of “Inuyasha” but apparently, you were offered the role rather than auditioning for it.
Urao: I was extremely happy. I knew the work, “Hanyō no Yashahime” was being created before it was discussed with me so I was looking forward to it as a regular viewer. It was then that I was asked to play Hisui and I was really surprised and honored.
Kimura: I didn’t know that they were moving forward with this work so I was all the more surprised (laughs). It’s not often that you get to be involved in an anime that you watched as an average viewer during your childhood, so I was happy. I had a connection with Rumiko-san from a previous work called “Kyōkai no RINNE” so I’m thankful that I get to have another connection via this work of completely different nature. If I had to say, though they’re the same in that they’re works by Rumiko-san, “Ranma ½” and “Kyōkai no RINNE” left a strong comedic impression. However, I was very excited to take part in the fantasy adventure world that is “Inuyasha”.
— How did you feel about the concept of “Continuing the world of “Inuyasha”, drawing the story of the next generation”
Kimura: Continuing a great work is exceedingly difficult so I don’t think it’s something that should be done at a moment’s notice. It’s just that “Inuyasha” was a big hit work that was drawn by the famous artist, Takahashi Rumiko. It was watched by many and loved for a long time. If the staff who created a work of that level decided to do a continuation, there’s no way they could create something half-hearted. Upon receiving talks, I just reminded myself to that level on my own and thought “It will definitely be okay!”
Urao: The generation that watched “Inuyasha” in real time are now adults and there are some that have children. That’s why I think “Hanyō no Yashahime” is a work that can be enjoyed by two generations. Adults can watch a new story together with the kids while explaining to them “”Inuyasha” was this kind of story”. I’m hoping I will be able to assist that kind of work. Actually when episode 1 aired, my high school senpai contacted me saying “I’m about to watch it with my son”.
— That’s a wonderful story. When playing the roles of Kohaku and Hisui, do you keep in mind Kohaku’s boyhood days in “Inuyasha” or Miroku and Sango who are Hisui’s parents?
Kimura: Actually, I don’t keep that in mind one bit.
— I see.
Kimura: For example, even if I were to keep Akko-san (Yajima Akiko who voiced Kohaku in his boyhood) in mind, if asked if I could come near that, the answer would be no (translator’s note: not too sure I got the translation of this sentence right). It’s just that when I was told that Akko-san said “Oh my~ he’s become a fine man”, I was relieved. I’m glad she didn’t think “Tsk!” (laughs).
Urao: I completely mindful of that! Especially in episode 2 when shouting while throwing Hirakotsu; I recorded the voice of Kuwashima Hōko-san (the role of Sango) saying “Hiraikotsu” and the whole time I was riding the train, I listened to it and did image training.
Kimura: I see. It certainly is something like a signature move.
Urao: First, I thought I needed viewers to acknowledge “Hirakotsu!”. Also, since the image of Miroku being able to calmly assess and explain the situation was strong, I’m really conscious of that in explanation scenes. I rewatched the anime and researched the way he spoke.
Kimura: There’s a lot of scenes where Kohaku and Hisui give explanations on demons while splitting lines (amongst themselves).
Urao: Indeed.
Kimura: Kohaku and Hisui probably meet up beforehand. Something like “I’ll explain up to here” (laughs).
Urao: Responding “Then I’ll explain the next (part)” is something they might be doing (laughs).
— How do you view each other’s characters?
Urao: Kohaku has always been a person who’s known that he was being manipulated and yet still moved in secret; but I also got the impression that he had a strong heart. It means that Ryōhei-san is playing someone like him and it’s really reassuring. As an average viewer of “Inuyasha”, I’m deeply moved that “He’s become a reliable man!” and as Hisui, I feel that “He’s a reliable uncle.” Calling him “Uncle Kohaku” felt kind of fresh (laughs).
Kimura: The impression I got from Hisui was “He’s a good young man.” Although I can say the same for the main three and not just Hisui. At the beginning, I wondered how Kohaku and Hisui would balance out but thanks to the scenario, lines, and Urao’s acting, it became “While he’s gaining experience as a demon slayer, there’s still a part of him that’s inexperienced.” That’s why I was able to grasp the balance between the two naturally instead of being strangely conscious of it. I became convinced of this in episode 2 in their first appearance scene.
He Can’t Use Any Other Weapon? Hisui Is Still in the Midst of Growing (as a demon slayer).
— Next, please tell us your impressions of Towa, Setsuna, and Moroha.
Urao: Even though they were raised in the feudal era, all of them have some “modern era girl” touch to them. Like the chattering ambiance (laughs). Also, I think each of them has an aspect that they inherited from their parents. Setsuna is the daughter of Sesshōmaru; you can feel that Moroha is Inuyasha’s daughter; Towa’s easygoing aspect gives you the sense that she was raised by Sōta.
Kimura: In a sense, Towa is the hardest to grasp. I think that gives her that protagonist feel.
— You feel she is hard to grasp?
Kimura: She’s full of energy and has an overflowing sense of justice but she has moments where you don’t know what she’s thinking. There, other characters and the readers get tied up… I think you see that a lot in protagonists of thrilling shōnen manga. I think Towa has that sort of precarious aspect. Heck, a modern middle schooler going back to the feudal era; that’s when you think something’s wrong with them (laughs). However, the story won’t progress if you don’t have that and it’s because they’re like that that they can remain the protagonist. Setsuna is cool and of few words but it’s easy to see what she’s thinking. I think the energetic Moroha is the easiest to understand.
Urao: My favorite of the three is Moroha. I can really feel that she inherited Inuyasha’s blood. Like how she’s a little hasty and the way she talks.
Kimura: The way Moroha’s voice actress, Tadokoro-san (Azusa), skillfully plays her is nice. Listening to her talk at a nice tempo feels good. Also, the voice actress for Setsuna, Komatsu-san (Mikako) is able to properly incorporate a sense of inexperience to a character that is prone to appearing boorish; I thought that’s her for yah. With this work, this is my first time working with Matsumoto-san (Sara) who plays the role of Towa and she’s good at acting! During today’s test recording when she said the line “Setsuna!” she got directed once, but the “Setsuna” in the actual recording came out sounding good like bam! I feel something like a synergy effect as the three work each other up which I think is splendid. It seems that the three cast members get along really well too.
Urao: The three of them act wonderfully don’t they. Just, I wonder why Setsuna is somewhat cold towards Hisui (laughs). As of now, Hisui calls Setsuna’s name the most but she looks away from him a lot… I hope they can close the distance between them moving forward!
— Kohaku and Hisui’s role is sort of like a guardian to Towa, Setsuna, and Moroha right.
Kimura: That’s right. It’s like the two of us are watching over the three girls.
Urao: We are sending them to slay demons after all. Hisui should’ve gone with them (laughs).
— In episode 5, due to Hiraikotsu not being effective on the demon they were taking on, Hisui had to stay behind.
Kimura: You know, Hisui is a pro so make him be able to use other weapons! What is he going to do when he doesn’t have Hiraikotsu on hand! (laughs)
Urao: You’re right (laughs). He might get more from here on. He is in the middle of growing (as a demon slayer)!
— Hisui’s development from here on is something to look forward to (laughs). Today (at time of the interview) is right after the televising of episode 1 but Urao-san was posting live on social media. You reacted to the line “Don’t cry Hisui~”
Urao: That’s the line that Hisui’s older twin sisters (Kin’u and Gyokuto) said. Hisui was still a cute baby!
Kimura: They seem strong if they fight as twins. I wonder when the grown-up sisters will show up. Could it be that they’re part of the demon slayer team?
Urao: I’m sure they will make an appearance. The content within episode 1 made “Inuyasha” fans very happy. You could feel the “Inuyasha”-ism everywhere. For example, the program sponsor background image, heads mercilessly flying off, and the background music that makes you go “When this music plays, the demon can be defeated”; everything was nostalgic.
— Yasumura Makoto’s role as Miroku was a topic of discussion as well.
Urao: I was moved. He played the role he inherited from Tsujitani Kōji-san (played the role of Miroku in “Inuyasha”) with great respect. He made me think it was actually Miroku and as his son, I got fired up even more.
— Lastly, please give us your thoughts on the illustration of Kohaku and Hisui published in this month’s issue.
Kimura: Both of them look so reliable!
Urao: Yeah, they look cool. When I see them like this, they really look alike. Uncle Kohaku has a big scar on his nose but I wonder if the one who gave him that scar will make an appearance in the future? The freckles he had as a kid are gone too which is impressionable.
— In the future, is there a situation you would like to see in a copyright image?
Kimura: This is a staple but Kohaku and Hisui in swimsuits?
Urao: (laughs) For me, I want to see the whole family lined up. Like a family photo with the parents, Hisui, the older sisters, and Uncle Kohaku.
Kimura: I like that! The family getting together doesn’t seem like something we’ll get to see much in the actual show. Also, I might want to see the two’s desperate expression. As of now, Kohaku and the others have an air of composure about them; it would be nice to see their forms in action. I’m sure something like a strong enemy will appear and the figures of them fighting valiantly will be drawn in the show. However, there are three protagonists, so our turn probably won’t be for a while (laughs).
Which scene up to episode 6 left an impression on you?
Kimura: Mistress Three Eyes that Nabatame-san (Hitomi) played was scary. She was a formidable foe. She looked just like the demon that first appeared in “Inuyasha”; it was amusing that they continued that.
Urao: Apparently, she’s the grandchild of Mistress Centipede.
Kimura: That confirms a second and third generation. The part where “That thing also had children!” is surprising too though (laughs).
Urao: For me, it had to be the scene where Hisui and Kohaku make their first appearance that left an impression. To think the day would come where I could ride Kirara and throw Hiraikotsu… I was deeply moved like we’ve crossed over eras.
Kimura: Even if you encounter a wonderful new work, it’s not often that you get to experience the same things the people playing the characters in the wonderful preexisting work felt.
Which character are you curious about?
Urao: Kirinmaru who has that mastermind aura. How is he going to move from here on?... There’s a person named Kirin Osamu-sensei in the modern era too so I’m curious as to the relationship between that.
Kimura: There’s no way that that’s the only screen time Hosoya-san (Yoshimasa who plays Kirinmaru) is getting. There’s this feeling of expectation that he will appear again.
Urao: Yeah
Kimura: Not only is there a chance that his existence is connected to the feudal era, but maybe there’s a possibility that he’s actually someone’s descendant? Well, we know absolutely nothing about the scenario ahead so we can just say whatever about the (plot) progression from here on (laughs).

Hit me with some Dadgil angst pls, number 47 angst
I warned you, Toschi...you have no one to blame but yourself...
“You deserve so much better.” Note: this is a continuation of what I lovingly refer to as the ‘Angst Train Series’, of which you can find Part 1 HERE, and Part 2 HERE
Vergil has always had trouble sleeping, ever since the night of the fire. For years later, he would wake up, tears in his eyes, from whatever poor excuse of a bed he had chosen to slumber on. Trying to protect his mother, and failing, being trapped, impaled by demons while his mother hurriedly shepherded only Dante to safety, or worse, the ones where she smiled while doing so.
But over time, he had learned to, if not get rid of the nightmares, at least suppress their effects on him.
But now, as he wakes up, a strangled scream in his throat, he’s back to his terrified eight year old self. Because the demon attack that destroyed his childhood has nothing in comparison to the over ten year period of enslavement he has just broken free of… If it wasn’t for both his brother and son, (how did he grow so much in such a short time?) pleading that he needed to sleep in order to heal (he had barked out a dispirited laugh at the thought of slumber ‘healing’ him), he’d force himself to just stay awake, until his body just gave out.
The nightmares now were so much more vivid, realistic, and cruel. If he was lucky, he would just relive his enslavement, his submission, kneeling at the feet of the one he hated most while pain wracked his limbs. But usually, it was something far worse. Sometimes it was Dante taking his place, unwillingly, (or worse) willingly. Even more terrifying was when his son, still eight years old, barely older than he was when his life changed forever, offering himself in his father’s place. He heard their screams of agony as they were morphed into something unrecognizable, and without fail, with his vision blurred by unshed tears, he’d put them down.
And then, if his mind was particularly sadistic, his reality, being freed by his son, learning that Nero had by some miracle, found his uncle, and was raised as well as his little brother could manage, was all a lie, an illusion, a dream. Mundus would be there, reading to snatch him back, and in punishment for daring to dream happiness, he was subjugated even further...first by killing the young man before him, who called him by a long forgotten title, who didn’t even defend himself as Nelo plunged the blade into his heart.
His head swings around, trying to anchor himself to this reality. Or is it yet another layer to his never-ending nightmare?
“Dad!” Nero’s voice, (so much more deep than he remembered, how much has he missed?) calls out, and Vergil sees him in the chair beside the bed, his blanket tossed aside. So Nero had taken it upon himself to sleep beside his father, for the third night this week. Vergil feels a wave of shame. He shouldn’t need his son there, as a makeshift night light, to help him steady himself every time he has yet another nightmare.
“It’s alright dad, whatever it was...it’s not real...it can’t hurt you. I won’t let it hurt you.” Vergil searches his son’s face, his bleary tired eyes, yet filled with determination, and the scar on his cheek, where that ever present reminder that in one horrible moment, he hurt his son. What a failure of a father he has been, abandoning and attacking his own flesh and blood, and now, needing him at his side like a glorified teddy bear! At this point, Dante has a better right to be called ‘father’
“I’m sorry,” he says, his hoarse voice still healing from the scars Mundus inflicted on him, “I must be such a burden on you…”
“You deserve so much better.”
Instantly, Nero’s eyes harden. “I spent ten years getting strong enough to get you out of there, dad. You don’t get to tell me what I deserve.” That strength, that conviction, is almost overwhelming. “I deserve to have my father back, safe, and happy. And nothing is going to stop me from that, not even if it takes a million years” His gaze softens, and he looks down as he picks up something beside his chair.
“You remember this?” he shows him a familiar brown leather bound book, with a golden V etched into the cover, “Remember when I’d have bad dreams, nightmares that you’d take me back to the orphanage because I was bad?” He opens up to a page, “Remember what you would do? You’d read me to sleep from one of these poems. And slowly but surely, the bad dreams would go away I don’t know if it will work...but I’m willing to try this with you.”
Vergil looks at his son, his beautiful, thoughtful caring boy, who could have used his trauma to forge himself into a cold, hard, uncaring man, but has instead become empathetic and loving. And slowly, Vergil nods, allowing both his son, and himself to relax. Taking a deep breath to steady himself, Nero intones.
The little boy lost in the lonely fen,
Led by the wandering light,
Began to cry, but God, ever nigh,
Appeared like his father, in white.
He kissed the child, and by the hand led,
And to his mother brought,
Who in sorrow pale, through the lonely dale,
Her little boy weeping sought.
And for the first time in what seems to be an eternity...Vergil slips into a dreamless slumber.

100 days of writing
I'm super late for this but I'd like to take a shot at a couple of questions provided by @the-wip-project (check it out, it's awesome!) and blabber about my Avvar headcanons and worldbuilding ideas. I want to flesh out their culture as much as possible in my fics.
Day 14
Do you have figures/creatures of folklore in your WIP? If not, can you think of something that would fit?
Day 15
Does your WIP have fairytales? Do your characters tell mythical stories to each other?
I'll tackle both of these prompts at the same time since they cover related topics. I think that coming up with fairytales, legends, mythical creatures, etc., is vital for a work of fiction that focuses on worldbuilding. From the dawn of times, people have tried to explain the world around them through tales - the laws of nature, the migration of tribes, the behaviour of animals, everything was given meaning.
These stories were exchanged between cultures, transforming as they passed from mouth to mouth, but the common elements can still be recognized. I believe that this human need for making sense of the world through stories is worth exploring, either in original fiction or fanfiction. One of my favourite parts of learning about a new fictional universe is discovering what kind of stories formed among its cultures. Do they prefer one style over another? What are the common themes? And so on, and so on.
In the case of Dragon Age, I already have the groundwork laid before me, but there's always so much more that can be done. The Avvar lore contains some beautiful examples of fictional mythology, and I want to build upon that.
Now let's move to the actual headcanons.
An idea I took further is the existence of a Great Serpent. According to one Avvar legend, when the serpent Nathramar engaged in a battle with Korth, they destroyed Mount Belenas, living only a vast crater behind, which the Lady of the Skies filled with her tears, creating a lake that eventually became known as Lake Calenhad. I wondered: "Why not include more of these gigantic serpents in Avvar legends?" So I went ahead and thought up a few more of them. They are large, snake-like creatures whose powers relate to water, storm, and lightning. I took some inspirations from the Slavic żmij/zmey.
"When the world was in its infancy, the Great Serpents still roamed the vast skies and deep waters. Hreggamar, the most boisterous of all creatures, decided to challenge a mighty dragon-mother to a duel. He was certain he would win, for he had learned her weakness while he was wandering through the clouds one day. Hidden by mist and rain, he entered the Mother's territory and sneaked upon the dragon-lair to eavesdrop on her plans…”
(The rest is under the cut because I have a lot of HCs.)
I find it compelling to imagine that the Avvar would tell stories in which the Great Serpents are responsible (in one way or another) for the creation of lake and seas.
It happened countless moons ago, before any human tribe wandered into the south. The time had come for Sundramar, one of the Great Serpents, to shed his skin. He rested his head at the coast of the ocean and stretched his long body across the earth. The end of his tail reached the land of many rivers, far away from the salt waters. Sundramar was eager to leave his old skin behind and emerge even greater than he already was. The sun would rise and set many times before his labour was over.
These Great Serpents are also supposed to hint at elven lore, which mentions some curious "giants of the sea" and Mythal transforming into a serpent to fight Andruil (the latter is probably an intentional parallel to Nathramar).
Another aspect of Avvar mythology I'd like to explore is the astronomical myths. The Astrariums presented a couple of brilliant stories, like the legend of Sindri Sky-Breaker, but I need more. Sun, moon, and star constellations are popular subjects of tales, and there's a very good reason for it. Their movements in the sky used to be the main way of tracking time and location, so they would often be anthropomorphized.
Were you ever disappointed that the two moons of Thedas receive so little spotlight? None, to be precise. There's just one offhand comment in The World of Thedas, stating that the holiday of Satinalia gets its name from the second moon, and that's it. Thedas could as well have only one moon because it's never shown again, neither in graphics nor in text. Well, I'm convinced that having two moons in the sky would have a huge impact on cultures forming in such a setting, so I decided to address it. In my headcanon, the second, smaller Thedosian moon is only visible for a part of the year. It appears in the sky at the beginning of the 11th month and vanishes a month later.
The Avvar myth that I came up with explains this phenomenon in the following way: the two moons are siblings, Hjuki and Bil. Hjuki is the older brother, and he provides illuminations for the world throughout the entire year. His younger sister, Bil, is just a child, so she needs more rest, but she joins her sibling in the sky each year, just before the winter settles in for good. Their joined effort helps make final preparations for the season of ice, such as protecting one's shelter from cold. In exchange for more light, every creature gains an additional shadow, which is associated with several superstitions.
(Side note: Yes, I borrowed the names for Hjuki and Bil from Norse mythology, but the legend is brand new, made to fit the two moons situation.)
I'm planning to invent some new constellation patterns, putting the stars from astrariums into different shapes. The constellations are arbitrary after all, and I'm pretty sure the Avvar came up with their own patterns before they were subjugated by the Tevinter Imperium.
Speaking of astronomy and time-tracking, there's another crucial aspect I aim to explore in my writing - the celebrations of solstices and equinoxes. For each of these events, I'd like to come up with a legend explaining why it occurs and what makes this time of the year unique. For example, the summer solstice is the day when the Lady of the Skies becomes the closest to the Mountains. Her light almost touches the ground. It's a moment of great joy, honouring life, warmth, and love. During the celebrations of Summer Solstice, it's customary to perform a dance telling the tale of how the first two creatures met - a beast of the sky and a beast of the earth - as it could've happened only when the Sky and the Land were close to each other.
I also used this opportunity and included yet another element of Slavic folklore - a parallel to the fern-flower, a magic flower which blooms only one night in the year, on the summer solstice. For the Avvar setting, I reimagined it as a fire-bloom, a plant connected to the goddess of fertility, Rilla of the Fireside.
An ancient legend said that Rilla of the Fireside cherished red foxes, for they reminded her of a burning hearth. One day, another god, Ahren Eagle-Eyed, wished to catch Rilla’s attention, but the goddess refused to abandon the woman who requested her help as she had wished to become pregnant. The patron of fertility turned a deaf ear to Ahren’s pestering and remained inside. She had promised she wouldn’t leave the fireside until her purpose had been fulfilled. After many unsuccessful attempts, Ahren thought of another approach. He decided to lure Rilla away with trickstery. He took the shape of a fox and arrived at the doorstep of the household that Rilla was protecting. Despite her fondness for red foxes, the goddess wouldn’t be fooled. She didn’t let the Eagle-Eyed hunter inside the house. She said that she would only open the door for him if he offered his aid to the mortal woman she took under her wings.
In the Avvar culture, there are skalds, professional keepers of stories who make sure that oral tradition is preserved, but of course, they're not the only ones sharing stories. On a long winter night, what better way to pass the time than exchange a tale or two?

Mugen: The Embodiment of Shintoism’s Redemptive Delinquent, Susanoo-no-Mikoto
Before I get into this Samurai Champloo analysis, I first want to make this clear that this is all interpretations I have made. There’s no actual direct information about the Shinto stuff (that I’ve seen), but I found a lot of parallels. There’s also a lot of variations in Shinto myth! So you may find some different but similar details.
To begin, one would at first think Mugen would be a representation of Amaterasu, Kami of the Sun, because of his association with red, fire, the sun, and the rooster in his title image. (Rooster’s represent the dawn and they were used to lure out Amaterasu from a cave). And in contrast, Jin would be associated with Susanoo, God of the Ocean and Storms, because of his association with water, and the aquatic fish in his title image. However, based on everything I am about to list, it is the exact opposite. Mugen and Jin are supposed to be like Yin and Yang, their elements canceling each other out. However, the two do possess traits of one another. For Mugen, it’s Jin’s samurai honor and morality. For Jin, he has Mugen’s stubbornness to not follow those he considers unworthy.
Mugen and Susanoo’s Personalities
Susanoo in his earliest myths, is seen in an extremely negative light. He is violent, rude, wild, arrogant, and loathed by the other Kami for his impulsive actions. In particular, his older sibling Amaterasu despises him. She by comparison, is benevolent and calm. He is the embodiment of chaos in stark contrast to his sister who represents “the balance of the universe”. Susanoo’s appearance is also supposed to be disheveled.
Susanoo, along with his two siblings, were born after his father Izanagi cleansed his face, after visiting the polluted underworld known as Yomi.
But...while Amaterasu and Tsukuyomi were born from Izanagi’s eyes, Susanoo was born from Izanagi’s nose last. The Kami believe that Susanoo had already absorbed some of the impurities of the underworld, and was tainted at birth.
This idea of being “lesser” fits very much in how Mugen is treated by society. The Ryukyuan people were heavily subjugated and experienced severe discrimination by the Japanese.
Ocean And Storms Symbolism
Susanoo is most notably the Kami of the Ocean, Storms (particularly rainfall) and Harvest (also because of rainfall). Later though, he ends up becoming the Kami associated with Love and Marriage. This will be explained further later.
Mugen has a heavy affiliation with the ocean, because of his previous occupation as a pirate and being born and raised in the penal colony island known as Taramashima which is near Miyakoshima in the Ryukyus. It’s the circular island on the bottom left, below.
We know Mugen is from here because the black figures that try to send him to the afterlife are known as Paantu. Paantu are deities from a Miyako Island festival that cast out evil spirits by throwing sacred mud on houses and people. In addition, Taramashima was used as a penal colony for Ryukyuan criminals during this time period, and is affiliated with Miyakoshima since it is so close by.
Also, in one of his most defining moments, he swims and emerges from the ocean in episode 25 to save Fuu.
More interestingly, Mugen is definitely associated with storms and typhoons (heavy tropic storm).
The Ryukyuan Islands have a long association with typhoons, because they were so common there throughout history, causing much damage and famine. In World War II, the Battle of Okinawa, known as the bloodiest Pacific battle, was called “The Typhoon of Steel”. In 1972, Okinawa made the flower of the coral tree or the “deigo”, their prefectural flower.
These flowers can be seen in episode 14, during Mugen’s flashback.
What is interesting...is deigo flowers are a symbol of disaster or catastrophe, namely typhoons. There is an Okinawan belief that the more deigo flowers bloom, the more typhoons there will be. In this episode, which is all about Mugen’s past, we are given double symbolism of the ocean and storms, when he nearly drowns during a severe rainstorm.
In addition, while Mugen’s sword is never named in the anime or manga, his blade is called “Typhoon Swell” in the Samurai Champloo: Sidetracked PS2 video game.
Fall From Grace and Rivalry with Amaterasu
Because of Susanoo’s bad attitude, chaotic personality, and destructive nature, Izanagi, chief of the Gods deemed Susanoo unworthy to live in the Heavens. So he was banished.
Accepting his fate, Susanoo decided to visit his sister Amaterasu before his departure, who had long been his rival that he fought with often. This is largely because Amaterasu as Izanagi’s first child, had divine right to rule, while Susanoo was the youngest and was believed to have impurities. Their rivalry is a symbolism of sunshine versus rain. Both are needed for the harvest, but too much of either causes famine.
This sounds a lot like Mugen and Jin, who cancel each other out.
When Susanoo went to see Amaterasu, the lands shook, and Amaterasu grew suspicious he was causing trouble, so she met him dressed in men’s clothing and in armor. To prove he had good intentions in saying farewell, Susanoo challenged her to a contest of who could create the most gods, in order to prove his sincerity.
Amaterasu took his sword, and broke it, forming three male kami. Susano took her necklace and broke it, forming 5 female kami from the magatama beads. There’s some variations to who exactly won. One says that Susano raged happily since he made more. Another says Amaterasu used trickery, and told him that the 5 female goddesses belonged to her, since they were made from her necklace and the 3 male gods were his since they came from his broken sword. This then infuriated him.
This is similar to how Mugen and Jin broke each other’s swords in episode 26, and neither really won.
Either way, Susanoo went wild, either from rage or pride and committed several heinous deeds, namely destroying Amaterasu’s rice fields and defecating in her palace. He also flayed and killed a holy horse and threw it at Amaterasu’s holy loom, which killed one of her servants.
The holy horse seems to be important to me.
Mugen’s last antagonist of the series are the three Satsuma brothers. In particular, Umanousuke is his biggest enemy who had kidnapped Fuu, tied her to a cross, and brutally tortured Mugen after he gave up his sword to free her. I am no expert, but from what I can gather, “nousuke” in a name, means second in command beneath a lord. And “Uma” means “horse”.
After his belligerent acts, Susanoo was then thrown from the Heavens to inhabit the earthly plane, which is considered to be Japan. Similarly, after Mugen’s pirating in Satsuma, that negatively impacted Umanousuke and his brothers, Mugen finally made it to Japan.
Susanoo and Mugen’s Redemption: Saving a Woman
Despite having been seen as a wild and evil God, there is one story that redeems him, showing him as heroic, and also allows him to reconcile with his sibling.
After Susanoo was cast out of the Heavens, he walked the lands of Japan. This is similar to Mugen being shunned by society for his astigmatism of his prison tattoos, as well as being an illegal alien in Japan, since he hails from the Ryukyuan Kingdom, which at this time period, is in a very complicated relationship between China and Japan.
It is while Susanoo is in the land of man, that he for the first time, is shown actually caring for another person: a young girl.
In his travels, he meets a sorrowful, elderly man and woman who are weeping over their daughter. Susanoo curiously asks why they are crying.
They tell him that they have lost seven of their daughters to a sea serpent named Yamata-no-Orochi (8 forked serpent) who has devoured them year after year. Now, it is time for the sea serpent to devour their last and youngest daughter: Kushinadahime.
In an uncharacteristic act of sympathy, Susanoo offers to help them. He tells the old couple to give him their daughter so he can protect her.
Upon entering the teahouse of episode 1, which was owned by an elderly couple...Mugen meets Fuu for the first time and saves her.
Susanoo transforms Kushinadahime into a small comb and hides her in his hair so that the serpent can not find her. Then, he goes off to kill the giant snake. He gets the serpent drunk off of very strong sake, and slays it.
From the serpent’s tail, Susanoo acquires the Ame-no-Murakumo-no-Tsurugi (the sword of gathering clouds). This sword has come to represent virtue.
After saving the girl, Susanoo asks her father for the girl’s hand in marriage. And then, after this, it would seem his new wife had tamed his tumultuous heart. She becomes venerated as the Kami of Rice and bears his 5 children. Many temples and festivals honor them together to this very day!
It is after this point, that Susanoo is no longer seen merely as the violent, antagonistic god of storms. He also becomes venerated as the God of Love and Marriage because of his heroism and love for the girl he saved.
A violent, belligerent sinful killer who falls from grace...who is redeemed by protecting a woman and becoming a hero...
You probably see where I’m going with this. Mugen and Fuu are heavily implied to have a subtle romance in the series. But if you’re confused by this and need sufficient evidence, please let me know and I’ll provide my many posts that explain it in detail. I will merely bring up one scene here, in order to tie Mugen’s connection with Susanoo, who has become the God of Love.
In episode 21, Sara tells Mugen “Powerful hatred and rage swirl within you. I cannot tell if it is sadness. It is as if you have never once been loved.”
When Mugen falls to the ground, and Sara readies her blade to kill him, Fuu jumps across his body to shield him from Sara, and begs her not to kill him. In this moment, Sara gasps, and spares Mugen’s life. In this moment, she realizes she was wrong. There is one person who does love him, enough to put her own life at risk.
This is very similar to Susanoo. Up until the point of saving Kushinadahime, he was hated by all the Gods, including his own family. But when he saved her life, she married him, implying her appreciation and love for him.
“In Search of New Lands, I Build a New House”
Immediately after marrying Kushidahime, the lovers travel around Izumi before they can find a suitable place to live. Upon arriving in Suga, Susanoo happily states "Coming to this place, my heart is refreshed.” and then built a lovely palace for him and his wife. Upon its completion, Susanoo composed a song.
The many-fenced palace of IDUMO:
“Of the many clouds rising— To dwell there with my spouse Do I build a many-fenced palace
Ah, that many-fenced palace!”
In Episode 14, during Mugen’s flashbacks, a folk song called “Obokeuri Eeumi” plays. Because it is possibly Ryukyuan (or from Kyushu) , and also deals heavily with poverty, and being unable to sustain one’s family, it is safe to say the perspective could be Mugen’s. It is especially important that the very last image he sees when the last lyric of the song plays is Fuu’s face. This last lyric is about the narrator’s lover.
Obokeuri Eeumi (Obtain Our Bearings):
In search of new lands, I build a new house I thatch the house with reed stalks, gathered neatly in bundles. I thatch the house with reed stalks, gathered neatly in bundles. At the stone wall, let us celebrate the golden house, that was built by a hundred carpenters. At the stone wall, let us celebrate the golden house, that was built by a hundred carpenters. Let us celebrate the golden house, that was built by a hundred carpenters. August is fast approaching, and yet I have nothing to wear I want to dress up, so brother, will you lend me just one sleeve? I wish to dress my children and loved ones… in the one kimono that I own. As for me, I will wear vines… that I plucked deep in the mountains. The light of the harvest moon shines down, illuminating the world with its divine light. When my lover sneaks in to visit me, I wish that the clouds would hide that light just a little.
Both songs are about building a house to live in with one’s loved ones, with a mention of encroaching clouds. Because Susanoo composed his song, and Obokeuri Eeumi specifically plays for Mugen’s near death experience, these songs are reflections of their characters.
Making Amends With the Rival
At some point, before or after building his home, he visits Amaterasu, his long time rival, and offers his sister the sword he acquired from killing the snake, so that the two may finally reconcile. This sword makes up the three Imperial Regalia, along with the Yata no Kagami mirror and the jewel Yasakani no Magatama. After this moment, Amaterasu and Susanoo are no longer bitter enemies, and finally accept one another as siblings.
On the same journey of redemption that Mugen took, in which he saved Fuu time and time again, by the end, Mugen was able to reconcile with his longtime rival, Jin.
More Minor Amaterasu and Jin Symbolisms
It is from Amaterasu that all Japanese emperors claim descent. For that reason, she is the embodiment of the Japanese people. I think this is very similar to Jin, who is a representation of the ideal Japanese samurai with all of its virtues.
When Amaterasu fled from the heavens because of Susanoo’s many insults, the world became a dark and stormy place, because there was no longer any sun. Amaterasu did not want to leave the cave as she grieved for the servant Susanoo had killed. Though it might be reaching, I saw this very comparable to episode 11 of Samurai Champloo, where the trio were stranded in Hamamatsu with perpetual rain. Here, Jin states “I hope that the rain will never stop. Then, I can stay here forever.” when in reference to staying with Shino.
Amaterasu was also insulted by her husband Tsukuyomi for killing her friend, the Kami of Food, and thus never saw him again. This is a representation of the Day and Night cycle, since Tsukuyomi is the Kami of the Moon. I found this similar to Jin having to part from Shino for three years because of her stay at the Divorce Temple. In addition to that, he met with her at night when he purchased her at the brothel. But when the morning came, she told him it was “time for the fairytale to come to an end.”
When Jin parts ways with Shino, the bridge they met on is shown one last time. Except this time, there is no more rain. There is only sunlight.
This is a representation that he must continue on his own journey for the samurai who smells of SUNflowers, for it is his duty, just as Amaterasu reluctantly left her cave at the behest of the other Gods...because it was her responsibility to have the sun rise in the sky again.
In conclusion
Mugen and Susanoo were both hated and considered evil. Both were outcasts. But their chivalrous actions in saving a young girl they cared about redeemed them.
Mugen and Susanoo both had a rival that was their polar opposite, but in the end, the two were able to reconcile and value one another.
(And I found another excuse to ship Fuugen.)

(Third film. After “ready as I’ll ever be”. In the woods of Auradon)
Lonnie (on her cellphone to Elsa): thank you your majesty. See you soon. (She hangs up). Ok. So we got Agrabah, Arendelle and New Orleans on our side.
Dizzy: what about Auroria and Cinderellasburg?
Jane: you know it just occurred to me how stupid some of these names sound
Lonnie (shrugging): we didn’t name em. Auroria. Possibly. Cinderellasburg. I dunno. Remember it’s her son who’s the homicidal maniac.
Dizzy: true
(In Ben’s office the three villains are looking at smoking hole in the carpet where the king once was)
Maleficent: is he dead
Chad: I dunno. Never done this before. Just thought of what would hurt him and did that. Dunno where that ball came from
Adam: what exactly would hurt him.
Chad: I think it was something to do with you sir
Adam: well he did destroy my portrait. And you had better hope he’s not dead. If he is then he’ll be used as a martyr and the bastards will be even harder to subjugate.
Maleficent: oh don’t worry. The bodies scattered throughout the kingdom? They’re merely asleep. The wand won’t allow otherwise. And a rookie did perform it after al
Adam: so what next?
Maleficent: I need to hunt down the ember and hopefully capture my daughter. You two make sure that the boy isn’t found by his allies.
Chad: Roger
Adam: we are not on a walkie-talkie
Chad (hopefully): but we could be?
Adam: no. You still have your cell
Maleficent: and you have a telapthic link with me. Adieu gentleman
(She disappears into purple smoke)
Chad: ooh I almost forgot. Where’s Audrey
Adam: don’t know don’t care. She’s not important. And she’s thrown in her lot with the villain spawn. She’s not worth saving son
Chad: I did this for her. I need to tell her. She can finally be my queen
Adam: and if she doesn’t want to? Because your skin is peeling off on your cheek
Chad: then I’ll make her. I have the wand. A little trance and then we dance.
Adam: whatever you think is best. Prince Chad of Auradon
Chad: I like that name
(On the island Facillier Celia and the boys have just sat down for lunch)
Carlos: god I forgot how good your cooking was
Facillier: well I’m glad I can still do something for you children. Even if it isn’t much
Gil: this is more then enough sir
Jay: to be honest I kinda missed this. Running away from Jafar. Coming here. Playing arcade games. Having proper good and not glass lined stew. Thank you
Facillier: your very welcome Jay. I have two extra slices for the girls when they come back from their fathers. Would they be interested
Gil: Evie would
Carlos: mom won’t. Vegetarian. But dad probably wil. If not then more for me🎶.
Jay: I’m done. I’ll put them on the bikes. You go play some games.
Carlos: ahaha I don’t think so. Not after yesterday. I’m coming with you. Don’t even try to stop me
Jay: and miss out on quality time with you? What am I? And idiot? Don’t answer that, just assume the position
(Carlos happily jumps in Jay’s back and they leave the arcade. The silence doesn’t last long)
Jay (from outside): HOLY MOTHER OF FUCK!!!!
(Carlos scurries back in slightly out of breath)
Carlos: the Hook’s stole our bikes. Jay’s chasing them. How long do you think mom and Evie will be at their dads?
Facillier: I don’t know. Why do they want there bikes
Carlos: the blonde said something about revenge redemption and repentance
Facillier: shit
Carlos: what
Celia: Harry’s alive. And they know.
(Outside the sisters Hook are on the bikes and Jay is chasing them. The give him the slip and he takes a shortcut which ends with him crashing through the apartment of someone he knows)
Jay: good thing I can’t get hurt
Cassim: Jay?
Jay: Cassim? You moved?
Cassim: I’m squatting.
Jay: of course. When this is all over I’m coming back for you personally. I need my grandpa after all
Cassim: Aladdin adopted you?
Jay: yup.
Cassim: I’m glad. Now what the hell are you doing
Jay: the Hook bitches stole two of our bikes. Trying to get them back.
Cassim: then go son, go
(Jay teleports away from the apartment straight into the girls path. They crash into him, flip over and land in a pile of crates against the wall)
Jay: you know. I have it on good authority that this is where your brother landed last year. After my friend stabbed him in the dick
Cj: don’t speak his NAME!
(She screams and aims a knife at his throat. He holds her wrist stopping her in the process. There’s a cracking sound)
Jay: do you really think you can hurt me. (Harriet tries to att ack him but he sweeps her legs from under her, she land on her back and he puts a foot on her throat) both of you are just as pathetic as your brother. Now. Tell me (his eyes glow bright gold) why did you steal the bikes?
Harriet (slowly suffocating): Harry. He’s, he’s
Jay: he’s what?
(In hades lair mother and son have just finished their talk)
Harry (still in disbelief): he though she was a mermaid. Oh god the injuicetus of it all
Hades: the what
Harry: it’s not fair. I can’t be related to those. Hold on. Do I have magic?
Hades: I don’t know. You might be a Vernon. James, while very bloodthirsty and oh so confident
Harry: yuck
Hades: is 100% fully human. So I don’t know if you have it in you.
Evie: and besides what do you care if you’re half mermaid? Your owner is an octopus. You haven’t got a leg to stand on
Harry: ohoho neither does the king kid sister
Evie: don’t call me that you have NO RIGHT
Harry: if I have magic. I’ll be more powerful then you
Evie: oh you think so do you? You’re only half god. The rest of you is stanky part human. I’m half sorceress. Mal’s half dark fairy. We’re better then you. In every way shape and form.
(This is when “anything you can do” happens. After the song)
Mal: are you two quote finished? Only cause I really want to get home before the kingdom falls and my fiancé dies
Evie (scoffing): of course. It’s always about what you want. You don’t even care that I’m in a crisis
Mal: I’m sorry what was that?
Evie: oh nothing. As always you’re too wrapped up in your own crap to see I’m suffering
Mal: oh my apologies dear sister. But who’s god awful advice last year led to the deaths of sixteen members of the paparazzi?
Evie: you’re the one that lost control. And then tried to kill me.
Mal: I was pissed that Ben got kidnapped. I also tasered Harry in the neck and nearly crushed Gil’s aorta in a fit of magic induced psychosis. You’re not special
(At this point the guys speak simultaneously)
Harry: you did what to Gil?
Hadie: you killed sixteen people?
Hades: that explains the magical history tour
Mal: Uma tore out my own heart and made me put it back, we used the book to resurrect them and yes the attempted sororicide is what led to it
Hades: wow. And. After all that. You still want to help.
Mal (shrugging): I live there. I have to help. Who else will?
Hades: the authorities. I don’t get it. After everything you’ve been through. Your mother. The coronation. The whatever it was the news called it last year
Evie: the green cyclone. It a lot PR to get rid of. I should know. I was in charge of it
Hades: and now this boy your mother possessed. You’re not thinking about yourself when you really should. By all means. Be all who you think they need you to be. Or be none of it. You don’t owe them or this world a thing. You never did.
Mal: is that from man of steel?
Hades: possibly. We get a lot of old used up films here
Mal: I never really paid attention to the movie besides the two leads
Evie: OH MY GOD SHUT THE FUCK UP!!!!
Mal: ...I think we need to talk. We can use your den right dad?
Hades: be my guest
Mal: thank you. CMON!
(She teleports Evie and her self to the den and seals the place)
Mal: now c’mon. Spill. Out with it
Evie: out with what?
Mal: the reason you’ve been pissy since the altercation we all had with Adam
Evie: I just...don’t...see...why you’re... ok with all this
Mal: oh?
Evie: he left us. With them. And I know he had his reasons. But they doesn’t excuse or lessen what he did. And I’m so...angry. That you seem fine with it. And it’s not fair. You have the height. More magic. The title. I love Doug and I can’t even say it to him. You’re the main character in this little soap opera that is our lives and I’m on the fringe of it all trying desperately to get a major part. But of course. Your story way isn’t it. And it’s always been like this. Ever since we were thirteen and I stabbed it in the leg. Got a quick hug from Carlos and he rushed straight into your arms and you punted next into the barrier. It’s irrational. And illogical. But I’m not a Vulcan. I have my own shit to sort out and it just feel like I’m constantly waiting out there for it to be my turn. I I.
(This is when “waiting in the wings happens”)
Mal: wow. And yet you’ve never tried out for choir
Evie: hey!
Mal: sorry. But seriously. You’ve been holding onto this whatever this is. For what? Ten years?
Evie: I hate that you’re right. I hate that you’re coining and I’m not. And I hate
Mal: you think I’m coping? I hate it too. I hate that he left us just as much as you do. But I do understand it. If I couldn’t be near Carlos I’d do whatever I could to keep him safe. Even if it meant ceasing all contact. And I know you’d do that for Dizzy and Gil would do that for the twins. I don’t like it but I understand it.
Evie: I guess.
Mal: ready to go back in now?
Evie: fine
(They go back to the main room only to seek new problem)
Harry (absolutely incensed): WHADYA MEAN I LOST A YEAR OF MY LIFE!
The sisters (unimpressed): this should be interesting
(At the arcade. The Hook sisters are ties back to back on the dinner table. Carlos is having a minor breakdown)
Carlos: woah woah wait. So you’re telling me. That the bastard that’s haunted my nightmares since I was eleven years old. Is the son of hades, Mal and Evie’s older brother. And you never THOUGHT TO TELL ANYONE
Harriet: why would we AAAAAAAAARGH
(Jay just flexed the cord binding the two sending an exceedingly painful electric shock through both of them)
Jay: yeah. You don’t get to talk to Carlos. Neither of you deserve to talk to Carlos.
Cj: we only require the presence of one.
Jay: English please
Gil: me. CJ’s talking about me. What do you want.
Cj: do you even care. Did you even think about them. All year long. You forgot them. Traitor
Gil (with more calmness then they deserve): I do care. I come here with my brother and our friends every Friday and I help with the relocation. As for Uma and Harry. They terrify me. They gave me the same look you’re giving me right now when I left. Uma wanted to get out of here, who wouldn’t, but when anything doesn’t go her way she turns cold and horrible. Harry, well, you know how he is. I loved them. And I know they loved me. But they terrify me. And you don’t terrify people you love. So no. I’m not the traitor. No matter what you say.
Jay: how long have you known?
Harriet: since Hadie brought him to the ship 19 1/2 years ago. I was three. I named him after meself.
Celia (unimpressed): huh inspired.
Harriet: if pa knew he had made it with a god who can take a lady’s form at will and sired a child in the process. Harry wouldn’t have lived to say his first words. And don’t either you dare say that it woulda been a good thing
Carlos (muttering): well
Harriet: SHUDDIT. It didn’t help. Father hated him. Insulted him. Tried to hurt him. It’s why I broke both his legs and poked out his eye. Everything I’ve ever done is to protect my brother and sister. And I’ll not have him be put at risk because his whore of a mother couldn’t keep her pissing mouth shut!
Jay (chuckling): I’m sorry have you MET your brother?
Harriet: yes. He’s an angel has a great respect for women. Would kill for his family. I raised him right
Jay: you raised a perverted overly violet ambiance is what you did
Carlos: I just hope that mom and Evie kill him before he gets here
(In the lair Harry’s having one of his patented meltdowns)
Harry: I remember HAHAHAHA I rememhahahahaHAHAHAHAHAHA
Evie: May I?
Hades: May you what?
(Evie walks up to her mortal older brother and slaps him around the face so hard he spins in perfect 360 and falls on his face slapped cheek landing on the floor painfully)
Harry: owwww
Mal: you’ve lost a year of your life. Big rotting whoop. You’re still nineteen
Harry: that’s even worse. I should still be young and beautiful
(The girls burst into hysterical laughter. So much so they actually start choking on air. Their brother is unimpressed)
Harry: so not only do you hate me. You think I’m ugly
Mal (trying very hard to keep a straight face): you are not a 12 year old girl and I am not your mother. So yes. Your hideously repulsive to me. More to the point. You’re nothing. You were born nothing. And god willing you’ll die nothing. You repulse me and everyone you know. The only reason our cousin ever kept you around is because she felt sorry for you
(Harry slaps her around the face. In turn she punches him in his face. Then uses magic to screw him up into a tiny little ball. And kicks him into the tv. After which he unfurls himself looking very much the worse for wear. This is when “you’re a mean one mister Hook” happens. After the song)
Evie: so you think we can leave him here as a moulding husk?
Mal (ruefully glancing at their father): I highly doubt it. The Samaritan here will probably heal him.
Evie: ooh idea time
Mal: yeah.
Evie: a repeat of last year. We take it hostage. And make Uma comply to our demands.
Mal: hmmmmm tempting. Can we still keep it beaten bloody and broken.
Hadie: ok this has been alluded to but I gotta know! What did he do. If he’s just in a different gang to you what could he have possibly done to make you hate him so much?
Mal: he attacked my son five years ago. He kidnapped my boyfriend and tried to throw him to sharks
Evie: he extorted my daughter for protection money. He fought my boyfriend last year
Harry: the dwarf stabbed me in the dick
The sister rotten: YOU DESERVE IT
Mal: he’s a foul vile disgusting little troglodyte who deserves eternal torment
Evie: he’s literally a bastard son of a bitch, father
Hades: somehow I think that was directed at me
Evie: ohoho if you’re ever going to be sure of anything in your too long life, be sure that every insult I currently have racing around in my brain is directed at you
Hades: thank you dear
Mal: we should get going
Evie: agreed
Mal: first though dad. Two questions. One. May I have the ember please? (He tosses it to her). Much obliged. Two. Come with us. Please?
Hades (looking guiltily ashamed): ah
Hadie: our dear old dad has barely left the lair. Yesterday’s incident was the first time he’s gone that far since
Evie: my second birthday. Of course
Hades: I’m sorry. I am so so sorry. I just. I can’t risk you, any of you, getting hurt because of me.
Mal (disappointedly): ah. Oh well. That’s fine. Long shot anyway. C’mon E. Wait.
Hadie: what’s wrong.
Mal: that (she points at Harry’s unconscious form). What’re we gonna do with it?
Evie: we’re gonna have to take him with us. A genuine hostage situation. If Uma tries anything. We threaten it’s life
Mal: I like those odds. (She conjures up a hair thin coil of rope and hogties Harry with it). There. That should do the trick
Hadie: doesn’t that hurt him
The sisters rotten: who cares?
(They leave the lair with the pirate railing behind like a deformed balloon. Once they’re at the arcade Evie stops Mal just before the dragon goes inside )
Evie: wait wait wait!
Mal: what what what?
Evie: ok. First of all. Uncalled for. Second of all. What do we tell the others about that?
(She points to Harry)
Mal: the truth
Evie: ok I know you have this “I don’t lie” policy, which is frankly bullshit, but sometimes lying is better
Mal: they’ll find out anyway. No use in letting it fester. C’mon
(They enter the arcade. And immediately notice the hook sisters chained up on the table)
Mal: hey guys. What’s going on?
Jay: they stole our bikes. Mine and Carlos’s bikes they were trying to find Pennywise
Harriet (happy cry/laughing): oh my god. You’re alive AAAARGH
Jay (holding the ignited and still burning chain): hush bitch.
Carlos: is it true mom?
Mal: yes.
Carlos: you and Evie I understand. But him. Dear god hades have some self respect
Evie: Hook thought she was a mermaid
Carlos: she?
Mal: Hades is Harry’s mother. Mine and Evie’s father. Harry’s mother
Carlos: huh, makes sense
Evie: in other news. I’m a day younger than Mal. The result of a rebound apparently
Mal: Maleficent left the morning after the wedding night.
Carlos (massaging the bridge of his nose): that’s a lot of information to get in thirty seconds
Mal: sorry hon.
Celia: what do we do now?
Jay: take all three of them hostage. If Uma tries anything. Off them one by one
Carlos Evie and Celia: agreed
Mal: Gil, buddy, you’ve not said anything yet. You ok?
Gil: how is he?
Facillier: he’s fine son. He’s preserved. Intact. He’s
Gil: is he still mad. About last year.
Cj: if he’s retained the sense Harriet taught him he’ll be mad as all get out
(The core four and Celia exchange a look that says “this explains so much)
Carlos: we’ve got to wake it up don’t we?
Mal: sadly yes. Jay you’re much more level headed than oh no...
(Her attentions turned to the tv where an emergency news report is airing. In Arendelle Elsa is preparing her leave)
Anna: how long are you gonna be gone?
Elsa: as long as my daughter needs me.
Anna: well then. Beat the bastards.
Elsa: oh believe me. I will.
(She takes her rucksack and teleports away to Auradon. She slams into a dome two hundwred miles from the castle and falls to the forest floor. Back on the island Hadie’s on his exercise bike. Hades however)
Hades: I made the right choice didn’t I? It’s not a good idea for me to go. So I shouldn’t. But I should. Bugger it. I don’t know. What do you think? What should I do
(Hadie hops off the exercise bike and faces his dad)
Hadie: what do you want me to say father? You did what you thought was best. I told you not to go try and give her the ember yesterday and look what happened. And now you’re asking me if you made the right decision? I can’t tell you that. Sorry but I can’t
Hades: I know. And don’t be sorry. It’s my fault. I shouldn’t have put you in that position. Oooh. Idea.
Hadie: what?
Hades: go with them. Protect them.
Hadie: really?
Hades: yeah. Iri...Mal has the ember
Hadie: oh but they still don’t like you
Hades: but Mal likes you
Hadie: good point. I better get ready then
Hades: HAHA!
(This is when “I’m so sorry” happens. After the song. In the arcade. The news caster is fear-mongering)
Newscaster: we don’t know what’s happening. The black smoke descends and leaves people unconscious. It is believed that a villain may have escaped the barrier after Hades’s attempt yesterday afternoon. The king is missing and lady Mal is nowhere to be fargh (he lets out a strangled scream as his heart is ripped out of his back. His face goes slack and he speaks with Maleficent’s voice) I know you are watching dear. So do me the courtesy of paying attention for a change. I know he gave you the ember. For some reason he took quite a shine to me so it would make sense that you are the favourite. Can not fathom why though. You are basically useless and very difficult to love. Anyway. Give me the ember at your earliest convenience and return to the isle with me and the toffs will live. Fail to do so. And I shall kill every last man women and child in Auradon until only tour pathetic little friends are left. And I will make you do away with them. Just know Maleficent Bertha that if you deny me what happens is your fault. You’d choice sweetie. (The heart is placed back into the mans chest) I’m sorry I don’t know what happened for a minute there urk
(His neck twists violently to the left and he falls down dead)
Mal: oh no. Oh nononononononono.....
(She enters a verbal cycle that only Jay notices. He switches off the tv and gets on the dinner table)
Jay: ok. EVERYBODY OUT. NOW
(Everyone hightails it outside and he sits down beside Mal on the floor)
Jay: it’s ok. You’ll be fine.
Mal: you don’t know that
Jay: I do. I do know that. You know how I know that? This sort of thing has happened to us so many times before. And you know what we do? We win. Every. Single. Goddamn. Time. And besides. You have the one thing Maleficent or chad will never have.
Mal: what? What do I have
Jay: you have me. You’ll always have me. I’m always gonna be there for you. Whatever happens. Be sure if this. I’m here for you
(This is when “I’ll be there for you” happens.)

Mario Universe
I'm a huge Mario fan. I received my very first Super Nintendo (SNES) when I was just five years old. I was sick and my dad was a fiend for new technology so this was his version of trying to make us both feel better. I loved it! Shortly after that I met my first step brother, Brandon, who was only three years older than me. He introduced himself to me by pointing finger guns up close to him on a mission to find the burglar in the house. So much personality! We bonded immediately. He was in an out of my life for a total of four long years as my father tried to figure out his relationship with his mother. We played video games together, got lost in giant sewer systems in (Kingwood) Houston, TX, chased ice cream trucks, rode bikes together, got in trouble together, played Barbies together and everything! He was like having a real brother. I miss our fun.
I still play video games today. I hate the idea of tossing away your childhood imagination and adorations to become a "mature adult". I just think maturity means handling your responsibilities and learning how to peacefully interact with other people and the environment. It doesn't mean stop imagining there are burglars in the house and using finger guns to stop them.
My two favorite stories in a video game are Twilight Princess and Super Paper Mario Wii. Both from #Nintendo.
"Ahem! Today I'll tell you the story of the lost book of prophecies."
"This prophetic book was a mysterious tome full of stories of future events. Of course, many people craved this book, wishing to glimpse their futures. But no person, after obtaining this amazing book, ever found happiness. The reason? The book held frightful secrets not meant for people's eyes. That book came to be called the Dark Prognosticus and was sealed away. This...is the tale of that forgotten book's last owner. It is a tale of love..." - gamefaqs.com
"Prior to the events of the game, Count Bleck went by the name Blumiere and was a member of the Tribe of Darkness, a group that had broken off from the Ancients after stealing the Dark Prognosticus in an (ultimately misguided) attempt to prevent its powers from being abused. One day, Bleck was found injured at the base of a cliff by a human girl, Timpani, and nursed back to health. Despite his father's warnings to stay away from humans, Blumiere became captured by her kindness toward him, sneaking out of his castle frequently to meet with her, and the pair eventually fell in love.
After learning his father had threatened Timpani and realizing their love could not survive there, Blumiere proposed to her, but before they could be married, his father abducted and banished the bride from their dimension, wiping her memory and cursing her to wander through worlds until the day she died, out of fear that her marriage to his son would dilute the blood of the tribe. Upon learning of Timpani's disappearance, Blumiere traveled through dimensions searching for her, unaware that she had been found barely alive by Merlon, a descendant of the Ancients living in Flipside, and turned into a Pixl known as Tippi in order to save her. It is implied by one of Carson's stories that he met Nastasia at some point during his search - after freeing a bat from a trap, he witnessed her transform into a woman and swear allegiance to him out of love.
Blumiere eventually returned home convinced that his love was gone forever. Believing life and existence to be meaningless without her, he stole the Dark Prognosticus against the wishes and pleas of his father, used its prophetic power to destroy his dimension, and decided to do the same to every world." -mariowiki.com
Then There is Twilight Princess
"The game begins with a youth named Link, who works as a ranch hand in Ordon Village. One day, the village is attacked by Bulblins, who carry off the village's children with Link in pursuit before he encounters a wall of Twilight. A Shadow Beast pulls him beyond the wall into the Twilight-shrouded forest, where he is transformed into a wolf and imprisoned. Link is soon freed by a Twilight creature named Midna, who offers to help him if he obeys her unconditionally. She guides him to Princess Zelda, who explains that Zant, the King of the Twili, invaded Hyrule Castle and forced her to surrender. The kingdom became enveloped in Twilight, rendering all its inhabitants besides Link and Zelda spirits. To save Hyrule, Link must first revive the Light Spirits by entering the Twilight-covered regions and recovering the Spirits' light from the Twilight beings that had stolen it. Once revitalized, each Spirit returns Link to his Hylian form. During this time, the ghost of a departed swordsman also appears to provide swordsmanship training that he had failed to pass on before he died, as well as information regarding Link's destiny in Hyrule.
Link also helps Midna acquire the Fused Shadows, fragments of a powerful dark relic. In return, she aids Link, and during his journey, he finds Ordon Village's children and assists the monkeys of Faron, the Gorons of Eldin, and the Zoras of Lanayru. After restoring the Light Spirits and obtaining the Fused Shadows, Link and Midna are ambushed by Zant, who takes the fragments. Midna calls him out for abusing his tribe's magic, but Zant reveals his power comes from another source, and uses it to revert Link to his wolf state. Failing to seduce Midna into joining forces with him, Zant leaves her to die by exposing her to the light. Bringing a dying Midna to Zelda, Link learns from her that he needs the Master Sword to lift Zant's curse, and she proceeds to sacrifice herself to heal Midna, vanishing mysteriously. Moved by Zelda's selflessness, Midna begins to care more about Link and the fate of the light world.
After gaining the Master Sword, Link is cleansed of the curse that kept him in wolf form. Deep within the Gerudo Desert, Link and Midna search for the Mirror of Twilight, the only known gateway between Hyrule and the Twilight Realm, but discover it is broken. The Sages there explain that Zant tried to destroy it, but merely managed to shatter it into fragments; only the true ruler of the Twili can completely destroy the Mirror of Twilight. They also relate that they once used it to banish Ganondorf, the Gerudo leader who attempted to steal the Triforce, to the Twilight Realm when executing him failed. Link and Midna set out to retrieve the missing shards of the Mirror. Once the mirror has been fully restored, the Sages reveal to Link that Midna is actually the true ruler of the Twili, usurped and cursed into her current form by Zant. Confronting Zant, Link and Midna learn that he forged a pact with Ganondorf, who asked for his assistance in subjugating Hyrule. After Link defeats Zant, Midna recovers the Fused Shadows and destroys Zant after learning only Ganondorf's death can release her from her curse.
Returning to Hyrule, Link and Midna find Ganondorf in Hyrule Castle, with a lifeless Zelda suspended above his head. Ganondorf fights Link by possessing Zelda and then transforming into a massive boar-like beast, but Link defeats him and the power Midna received from Zelda is able to resuscitate her. Ganondorf then revives, and Midna teleports Link and Zelda outside the castle so she can hold him off with the Fused Shadows. However, as Hyrule Castle collapses, it is revealed that Ganondorf was victorious, as he appears before them and crushes Midna's helmet. Ganondorf engages Link on horseback; assisted by Zelda and the Light Spirits, Link eventually knocks Ganondorf off his horse and duels him on foot before plunging the Master Sword into his chest. With Ganondorf dead, the Light Spirits revive Midna and restore her to her true form. After bidding farewell to Link and Zelda, Midna returns home and destroys the Mirror of Twilight with a tear. As Hyrule Castle is rebuilt, Link leaves Ordon Village, heading to parts unknown." - wikipedia.org

“Cover it up”: Ragnarok and the scars of history (2/2)
Find part 1 here
“It is I! Your saviour!”
So: hands up, those of us who were shocked/thrilled/horrifically excited etc when we were first presented with the prospect of seeing Loki on Asgard’s throne.
And now: hands up, those of us who were expecting what he actually did with it.
Loki’s a difficult character to deal with, largely because his motivations seem to be all over the place. In The Avengers he wants world domination and to not be killed by Thanos. In The Dark World he wants revenge for his mother and, in some small way, to get on a little better with Thor. These things, they don’t really line up, do they? And that leaves us, after all these films, still asking that question: what does Loki want?
When Loki took over Asgard, he didn’t take its armies on a campaign of conquest through the galaxy. He didn’t hunt down his enemies or murder his brother or invade Earth. He sat on a sofa and ate grapes and commissioned art in honour of himself – in honour of Loki, hero of Asgard, beloved of his father, forgiven of his crimes. Loki took over his country and then he took what he wanted: the love of Asgard’s people, his place in its history. Given the chance to have anything he wanted, this is what he chose. To be loved. To be accepted. To be remembered as one of them.
This, then, is what Loki wants: to be a hero of Asgard, rather than an outcast from it. To be someone they accept, not out of force, but out of love. This is, really, what he’s wanted ever since his first appearance – his villainous turn in Thor, after all, began as an attempt to win his father’s approval, and a large part of his snarling bitterness at his country and his family comes from the trauma of realising that neither is really his. Loki is haunted by the feeling of being other; what he wants, more than anything, is to be rid of that feeling.
Read in this light, the appearance of the little blue kid at the end of The Tragedy of Loki of Asgard goes from being just a cute joke to something more significant: a reminder of where Loki comes from, and who he is. Not just an outsider, or an immigrant, but a hostage from a conquered race. If Hela represents the dark, violent imperialism of Asgard’s past, Loki represents the continuing reality of this imperialism in Asgard’s present. The Jotun were not victims of Hela’s violence, but they were victims of an impulse nearly identical to the one which Hela embodies – the impulse to fight, to conquer, to rule.
When I was sixteen I wanted to move to London. I wanted to write for the BBC; I wanted to be the next Steven Moffat. These are all reasonable dreams, when you are sixteen and a Doctor Who fan; to be honest, I still want to be Steven Moffat. But when I was sixteen I wanted more than that – I wanted to move to London and become British, to prove that I spoke English as well as any Englishwoman, to take the accent and the airs and dye my hair and change my passport and get an OBE from the Queen and forget where I came from and have everyone forget about that, too. To be a Singaporean who made good. To go to the people who’d conquered my people and make my place there, as one as good as them, as one of them.
I got older. I got better. I go to university in England now. Now and then I catch myself speaking with my accent from home and I rub it out before anyone else notices. I take the odd slang term and I hide it away. I work hard because I love my degree and I respect my tutors and I never learned how to not work hard when it comes to academia, and I work hard because one day I’m going to get a first and beat all my white brit friends and I’ll prove that I’m as good as them even though I’m Chinese. It kills me that there are cultural jokes my friends share with each other that I will never understand. It kills me that there is a form of humour over there that I was not raised to appreciate. I go to university in England now and I love that land and I love this land, here, where I came from, but it’s hard being home in two places, it’s hard being made in one and living in another, and sometimes that kills me too.
The place where I live during term time has been standing for a thousand years and it has a library with every book in the world in it and it is a beautiful city full of beautiful people who speak the language I love perfectly, it is a place of poetry, and home is a city full of squat practical buildings built in the last fifty years and advertisements on buses which have grammatical errors in and every now and then I think to myself if I had to pick one, if I had to pick one…
I am older, now. I am better. I tell myself I love my country. I tell myself I do not need to prove myself to anyone, especially not because they’re white, especially not because they would have been my masters, in another life. I am aggressively Singaporean now, aggressively Chinese, aggressively myself. I am no longer sixteen. Sometimes I catch myself wishing I had been born English. The very idea disgusts me. It’s still true.
When Loki takes over Asgard, he turns himself into Odin to do it. And if you’re anything like me, you thought that would’ve lasted for about as long as it would’ve taken him to quash all dissent, exile the strong and the loyal, and reveal his true self to the quivering, subjugated masses left with no other option than to submit to him. But here he is, years later, and he’s still Odin. He would, it seems, be happy to stay Odin for the rest of his life. Loki, remember, wants to rule, but more than that he wants to be loved. And if he can’t have both as himself, he’s willing to become a person who can. Odin, the symbol of every Asgardian ideal, the man who crushed Loki’s people, the man whose approval he was willing to destroy a world for – why wouldn’t he want to be him? Why wouldn’t he want to stay that way?
The tragedy of Loki of Asgard is this: that he becomes his own oppressor, just like I have become mine. We are the ones who set standards that we are never going to reach. We are the ones who are ashamed of where we come from, who we were, who we are now. We are the ones who look at a race of people we secretly resent and tell ourselves they are superior, that we will never be anything unless we can gain their approval, be like them, be them; we are the ones who will destroy ourselves trying. This is, you see, our own fault. Our own fault. We do this to ourselves.
It’s no surprise, then, that Loki looks a lot like Hela – Hela, the conqueror, the colonialist, creator of empires. They are both tall, thin, pale-skinned; dark-eyed, dark-haired. Both wear horns. Their hairstyles are even similar, and their colour schemes – black and green, almost the same shade. The similarities don’t end there; both share a love of conquest, a desire for power, even certain turns of phrase – in ordering her brothers to kneel, after all, Hela is clearly stealing Loki’s line.
Loki is not just the victim of a history of violence and oppression. He is the inheritor of that history. He’s internalised it, let it take him over; let it dictate who he wants to be and who he is becoming – a creature of conquest, the embodiment of the very thing that did him damage. He becomes both his own oppressor and a symbol of his own oppression – both the victim and the villain of his own story. He takes on both sides of that history. He is scarred by both.
It is Loki, of all of Odin’s children, who has the best claim to Asgard’s history.
Which is, of course, why he gets to be the one to burn it all down.
“Get up. You’re in my seat.”
I just want to say two things about Thor.
The first is this: that Marvel’s filmmakers have finally found, in Thor’s arc in Ragnarok, the one storyline for which the protagonist needs to be a white man. Because Thor is the ultimate child of privilege – raised as royalty, heir to a throne, physically indestructible, with Aryan looks and a traditionally masculine personality. He is, both in-universe and out of it, the white-masculine ideal – the man’s man who oozes physical strength and (hetero)sexual appeal, a man with rank and status and money, handed power and authority on a silver platter. Thor is the one person who never had to fear all the things that Hela represents, because he is not the sort of person she conquers – he is the sort of person she conquers for.
And in this film, he comes to understand what it’s like being on the other side of that picture. This is not, of course, to say that Thor has never suffered before, or that he has never before been capable of compassion for those who are suffering – but he has never, till this point, been the victim of this particular form of violence. Before, he had always been a person with unquestioned agency, the hero of his own story, sometimes hurt but never at another’s mercy. He has been beaten; he has never been exploited. Until now.
In Ragnarok, Thor is enslaved, subjugated, kept in line by thinly-disguised torture. He has his throne stolen from him, his legitimacy questioned. He is used, abused, imprisoned not because he is recognised – as SHIELD recognised him in his first film – as a threat, but because he is property that must be kept in its proper place. He sees his people attacked. He loses his hammer and his agency and his hair – a loss which, though played for laughs, represents the violation of a body that has to this point been presented as absolutely inviolate and inviolable.
In this film, Thor goes from being a child of privilege to being a slave, a member of a victimised community, a sexualised object, a person without bodily autonomy. And because of this, he finally understands what it is to be these things. To be the victim of a system of power over which you have no control. To be the victim of violence which you are unable to fight. To be beaten and pressed down and thumbed under. To be powerless.
This is, ultimately, what makes his defeat of Hela powerful, and meaningful, and possible. Because Thor, as he was before, would never have been able to fight a system of oppression – he would barely have been able to comprehend it. Thor, the Mighty Thor, has no power in a world like this. We do not need mighty invincible champions who reach down from the heavens to save the oppressed. We do not need the child of privilege, given everything, lacking nothing. We need someone who will fight with us. Who feels this pain too. We need someone who understands.
The second thing I want to say is this: Thor is not the firstborn of Odin. Hela is. Thor is not the heir to Asgard’s throne. Hela is. In nations built on violence and cruelty it is not the children of privilege who inherit. It is history. It is violence. It is cruelty itself.
When Hela tells Thor that he is in her chair, she isn’t lying – she’s correct. The throne is hers, and so is the power, and so is the land. She owns it. It is hers. And none of them may remember, but it has always been hers.
And so Thor tells Loki to burn it down. He burns down his home, his life, everything he has ever known. But in the end, he loses nothing, because none of it was ever his, really. It is not his inheritance that he burns. It is hers.
Who really has your power? Who really owns your land? Can you let it live, knowing it feeds something darker and bloodier than you care to remember? Can you really cling to your gilded thrones, knowing you are usurpers, knowing that one day history will rise up to claim its inheritance?
Do you dare to burn it down?
What will you really lose?

The Guardian - Loki (Part 2)
“Y/N” The familiar voice of Thor called, I focused deeply on his tone. “Find Loki, he’s attacking mudguard” My eyes shut tightly, focusing on his long dark hair, the sound of his voice in murmurs. I focused on the street he was on, his smile as his suit transforms into the attire I had grown use to seeing. “I need your help”
“Thor” I whispered, looking around for him, I walked into the crowd, looking up to Loki who had a menacing smile on his face.
“Kneel before me” He shouted, making people jump, as they tried to run away, Loki projected himself, blocking everyone in. “I said. Kneel!” He screamed further, smiling to himself. I stared up at the man I use to be friends with, frowning to myself.
“Is not this simpler? Is this not your natural state? It's the unspoken truth of humanity, that you crave subjugation. The bright lure of freedom diminishes your life's joy in a mad scramble for power, for identity. You were made to be ruled. In the end, you will always kneel” Loki’s soliloquy made my eyes roll. I knelt alongside everyone else, watching as one elderly man remained stood.
"Not to men like you” He challenged, I watched as Loki’s face fell, anger rising.
“There are no men like me” He growled, I looked to the man a few meters away, the brave man who refused to fall at Loki’s feet.
“There are always men like you” The elderly man looked Loki directly in the eye and remained stood.
“Look to your elder, people. Let him be an example” He cheered, pointing his scepter. My eyes widened and I watched as it fired, ricocheting from the shield of a man who jumped before the elderly man. The beam split, and I watched as Loki was knocked back, before feeling the pain in my stomach.
“You know, the last time I was in Germany and saw a man standing above everybody else, we ended up disagreeing” The man in blue said, standing to look Loki in the eye. Loki glared back, standing up.
“The soldier. A man out of time” Loki stepped forwards, a smile on his face.
“I'm not the one who's out of time” From above the man in blue, a jet arrived. A machine gun was pointed towards Loki
“Loki, drop the weapon and stand down” I heard a female voice call out, I looked around, confused. They fought between themselves as I stood, looking around for a familiar face. The familiar face. Loki ended up in the position of power, with his scepter pointed to the man in blue’s helmet.
“Kneel” He repeated once more.
“Not today!” The blue man replied, flipping round and toppling Loki with his leg. The fighting continued until another person came in, a man flying in, a red and gold metal suit. He hit Loki with some sort of weapon, knocking him to the ground. The man in red landed, guns coming out from all over his suit.
“Make your move, Reindeer Games” The man said, making my eyebrows raise. I watched as Loki’s arms raised up, and surrendered, his armor vanishing as he gave in.
“Thor” I whispered, calling out to the man who would know what’s going on. “Thor I’m on the ground, what’s happened?”
“Find me” he replied shortly. I nodded, vanishing from the crowd. I materialized beside the blonde man, nodding my head to him. “Lady Y/N, Loki is on one of his missions again, I need you to help. You’re the only person he listens to” I nodded, meeting his deep blue eyes.
“Thor, I don’t care for the reason. It’s my job to protect the realm, and midgard. Just take me to Loki and I’ll bring him home” I looked up to the sky, feeling Thor wrap his arm around me. Thunder picked up as we flew through the sky. Thor put me down on the top of the jet. He opened a door, and jumped in. I followed, once my invisibility had kicked in. I looked around to see the man in red and the man in blue.
Thor grabbed a hold of his brother, who smirked to the two men beside him.
“Now there's that guy” The one in red said as I wrapped my arms around Thor’s shoulders as he jumped from the plane. We landed and Thor threw Loki into the mountain, I climbed off, allowing for my cloak to fall. Loki looked up to me, eyes widening. Thor raised his hammer, holding it over his apparently dead brother.
“Where is the Tesseract?” He demanded, but Loki’s eyes remained on me. A faint humming drew my attention; however, it was far away. I remained uninterested in their argument, though my attention was drawn by one comment by Thor. “I thought you dead.” Loki shrugged looking to me.
“Did you mourn?” Loki asked him, eyes remaining on me. I sighed, looking to the older of the two brothers.
“We all did. Our father...” Thor motioned to me before continuing.
“Your father. He did tell you my true parentage, did he not?” Loki jibed, before looking to me, remembering my attendance of the moment the truth came out.
“We were raised together” Thor exclaimed, gripping his brother’s shirt. “We played together, we fought together” He listed, I nodded to punctuate each sentence. “Do you remember none of that?” He begged, looking to his brother for hope.
“I remember a shadow. Living in the shade of your greatness” Loki looked up to me, begging for someone to fight his side. “I remember you tossing me into an abyss” He added, the betrayal strong within his broken voice. “I was and should be king!”
“and there it is” I sighed, rolling my eyes. Loki looked up to me and I crossed my arms frowning.
“So, you take the world I love as recompense for your imagined slights. No, the Earth is under my protection, Loki.” I looked up to Thor, why did this planet mean so much to him.
“And you're doing a marvelous job with that” Loki laughed, rolling his eye and looked to his brother. “The humans slaughter each other in droves, while you idly threat” Thor held his hand up to intervene while Loki continued “I mean to rule them. And why should I not?”
“You think yourself above them?” Thor asked, raising an eyebrow. Loki thought for a moment, chuckling.
“Well, yes” He nodded, smirking to me, but the smirk fell when he saw that I wasn’t amused.
“Then you miss the truth of ruling, brother” Thor looked to me and I nodded, agreeing with him, Loki could never become a king. He isn’t suited for it, “Throne would suit you ill”
“I've seen worlds you've never known about!” I snorted and he nodded, realizing the fault in the statement. “ I have grown, Odinson, in my exile! I have seen the true power of the Tesseract, and when I wield it...” He bit into his lip, looking to me out of the corner of his icy blue eyes. I closed my eyes, looking out for Heimdall, who stood at our post, waiting patiently. My attention was once again stolen by Thor being knocked off the mountain. “I’m listening…” Loki joked, making me snort.
“Y/N, come on… you can’t still be mad at me?” He whined, making my eyes roll.
“Loki, I trusted you, you betrayed that. I knew you were the jokester, the god of mischief, but that doesn’t mean you need to be an ass” He bit into his lip, nodding slightly, with a smirk. “He’s your brother, blood or not. Thor is a brother to me?” I challenged, making Loki look away. “This needs to stop Loki, you need to stop” I took a step closer, taking his hand in mine.
“I can’t, I need to rule Y/N. I was supposed to rule” He whispered weakly.
“You need to surrender, to give yourself in” I mumbled, looking up into his blue eyes. “I’ll stay with you, but Loki… do the right thing. There are 7 billion lives on this planet… I can’t see you destroy them. I can’t be near someone who thinks that is okay” I explained, making Loki nod weakly.

I looked around the ship as I lead Loki towards the cell he was to be imprisoned within. I could see everyone watched myself and Loki, afraid one of us would cause problems. We looked to the glass cage, “It's an impressive cage. Not built, I think, for me” Loki raised an eyebrow before looking to me with a smirk.
“Built for something a lot stronger than you” The director answered, looking around the room.
“Oh, I've heard” He chuckled, I lead Loki into the cage, turning to leave, and vanishing as I reached the doorway. I quickly bound back to Loki’s side, my hand coming to rest on his lower back, informing him of my prescience. “The mindless beast, makes play he's still a man. How desperate are you, that you call upon such lost creatures to defend you?” Loki laughed as I sighed, sitting along the wall.
“How desperate am I? You threaten my world with war. You steal a force you can't hope to control” Fury growled, taking a step closer. Loki chuckled, urging the man to go on, “You talk about peace and you kill ‘cause it's fun. You have made me very desperate. You might not be glad that you did” I nodded to myself, the humans were growing desperate to be rid of him, they had called together their strongest, the man who doubled in size, a man from their old wars. The man with impeccable aim, and a woman who has killed more than most of the team combined.
“Ooh. It burns you to come so close” Loki snarled, I looked up to him and rolled my eyes. “To have the Tesseract, to have power, unlimited power. And for what? A warm light for all mankind to share, and then to be reminded what real power is”
“Well, you let me know if Real Power wants a magazine or something” fury said before walking out, I snorted and then smiled to myself.
“You can come out Y/N” Loki chuckled, turning towards me. I let the cloak fall once more, shaking my head at the dark-haired man opposite me. He smiled, walking towards me. “So, you’re going to stay locked up here, with me?” He asked quietly, sitting beside me on the floor.
“Lady Y/N, may I speak with you?” I hear the deep voice call from behind, I jump up to see Thor smiling at me, the man in blue stood by his side. I nodded, flashing myself to their side. “Follow me” He continued, I obeyed, walking beside the man in blue, and I could see his eyes following me every step of the way.
“So… what are you the god of?” The man in blue said, making both Thor and I laugh. “I assume, being of Asgard you are another of these many ‘gods’” he added, an eyebrow raised.
“I am not a god, in such a sense that Thor and Loki are, I am what is known as a Guardian, for the gods, or one god” I said, looking to Thor who smiled back at me.
“So… what do Guardians do?” He asked, making Thor laugh, the booming sound echoed through the hallway.
“Exactly what you think, I guard, I watch over and protect. I see everything going on at every point in time. I hear everything, so when Thor received news of Loki’s plans, he called upon me” I explained, looking ahead.
“So, you’re like Thor’s bodyguard?” one of the many agents asked, making me laugh and shake my head.
“No, Guardian’s aren’t bodyguards… and I’m not Thor’s Guardian, I’m Loki’s” their eyes widened, “You could say I have some influence over the trickster” I chuckled, smiling to myself as we entered the room surrounded by the Earth’s mightiest warriors.
“He really grows on you, doesn't he?” Dr Banner said lightly, looking to me and Thor.
“Loki's gonna drag this out. So, Thor, what's his play?” The man in blue asked, looking to the god who walked around the table as I took a seat.
“He has an army called the Chitauri” I rolled my eyes, of course he was in allegiance with the Chitauri. “They're not of Asgard or any world known. He means to lead them against your people. They will win him the earth. In return, I suspect, for the Tesseract” I sighed, gaining the attention of everyone in the room.
“The Chitauri are shapeshifters, they consider themselves to be the immune system of the universe, going to planets and wiping existence when they feel necessary. Usually they do not eradicate a species, however they remove the part they consider to be toxic. The most likely time you will remember is your last World War, the chitauri act behind the scenes, influencing the military and its behaviors. With your last war, they aided the German’s in creating new technologies for nuclear weaponry” Everyone in the room looked to me and Thor smiled proudly.
“This is Lady Y/N, of Asgard, she is Loki’s guardian, a warrior sworn to protect Loki, and to help him make the right decisions, guardians are the most powerful beings to walk any planet. She is able to see the entire universe at any point, and she has also become a good friend of mine, since Loki went rogue” Thor warned, making me chuckle.
“You make sure Loki does the right thing?” The man in blue asked, and I let out a sigh.
“I don’t make him do anything, I influence and protect, but recently Loki has grown apart from me, he worries about my impending death” They all looked to me with confusion, even Thor. “I’m old, in reference to my people… for a human I would be maybe 90 years old… my lifespan doesn’t stretch much further. It has stressed him greatly. He wants to find a way to stop the natural from happening” I muttered, before running a hand through my hair. “Anyway, back to this current event” I cleared my throat before looking around.
“An army? From outer space?” The man in blue asked, looking to me. I nodded quickly, the Chitauri were not a good thing to be bringing to this planet, they would wipe it out.
“So he's building another portal. That's what he needs Erik Selvig for” Dr Banner realized, making Thor’s eyes widen.
“Selvig? He's a friend” Thor said, looking to me. I nodded, closing my eyes and trying to find him.
“He is okay Thor, just under Loki’s influence” I whispered, gaining everyone’s attention. “and he’s fighting too. He knows what is happening” Thor let out a breath then nodded.
“I wanna know why Loki let us take him. He's not leading an army from here” The man in blue thought aloud, making me sigh. He was leading them from here, this was his plan.
“I don't think we should be focusing on Loki. That guy's brain is a bag full of cats, you could smell crazy on him” I snarled in the direction of Dr Banner who just stared at me as Thor spoke up.
“Have care how you speak. Loki is beyond reason, but he is of Asgard, and he's my brother, and an old friend of Y/N” Thor warned the room as I steadied my breathing.
“He killed eighty people in two days” The assassin recalled, making me grimace.
“He's adopted” Thor offered, making me snort. “And she stopped talking to him about a hundred human years ago” Thor pointed to me as we both laughed. “though for you it would feel like months” He added, time conversion rate, it’s a nightmare.
“We know Loki is a challenging person to care for, but we do care for him” I explained, looking around the room, watching as everyone looked at me suspiciously. Director Fury walked in, looking at me with discontent.
“Last year earth had a visitor from another planet who had a grudge match that leveled a small town. We learned that not only are we not alone, but we are hopelessly, hilariously, outgunned” Director Fury explained to the people around the table, eyes lingering on me.
“My people want nothing but peace with your planet” Thor challenged, and I nodded looking to the God beside me.
“But you're not the only people out there, are you?” the director looked to me, and I nodded slightly. “And, you're not the only threat. The world's filling up with people who can't be matched, they can't be controlled” I shook my head, I can see what happens, but I can’t prevent it all.
“Like you controlled the cube?” The man in blue asked, I looked up, he had a point.
“You're work with the Tesseract is what drew Loki to it” I hummed in agreement with Thor’s statement, all of the team looking to me. “It is the signal to all the realms that the earth is ready for a higher form of war”
“You said you have control over Loki?” The man beside me asked, I gasped and shook my head violently.
“No! Oh gosh no. I can’t control him, but I have influence. He listens to me” I corrected, my mind flashed back towards the cell Loki was in. “Thor, your brother” I warned, Thor got up, bounding out of the room, when everyone looked to me. “You might want to go too… Loki is trying to escape” I called casually, before flashing back to the cell. An agent was pointing a gun towards Loki, who was at the control panel for the ship.
“Move away, please” The agent asked, making Loki chuckle and step away. “You like this? We started working on the prototype after you sent THE DESTROYER. Even I don't know what it does. Do you wanna find out?” The agent threatened, I gasped as I saw Loki appear behind the man, scepter in hand. I flashed before him, feeling it pierce through my chest.
“You're gonna lose” The agent said, looking to Loki, he looked back to me and smiled weakly. “You’re not like him” He whispered, I stood up, glaring at Loki who stared back at me. Next I knew, I saw a beam pass by me, hitting Loki in the chest. I looked down to the agent who chuckled. “So that’s what it does” he smiled to me.
-------------------------------------
I closed my eyes, searching for Loki, only to see him and Thor, fighting. I flashed in, hiding behind Loki, Thor nodding to me. Thor grabs a hold of Loki's face, forcing him to look straight ahead, forcing him to watch as the city falling to ash.
“Look at this! Look around you! You think this madness will end with your rule?” Thor demanded, I stepped into Loki’s eye line, raising an eyebrow. His face fell as he looked to me, pain rich in eye.
“It's too late. It's too late to stop it” He whispered, his voice breaking.
“No. We can. Together” Thor offered, before Loki raised a knife, stabbing him. I watched in shock as Thor fell to the ground, I crumpled on my knees beside him, pressing my hand to the wound.
“Sentiment” Loki sniggered, Thor stood up, gripping Loki’s collar and slamming him back into the ground. Loki rolled to the side, over the edge of the building, I rolled my eyes and watched as the ship flew past, Loki smiling to me. He shot a wink before shouting out to all of the Avengers.
“Enough! You are, all of you, beneath me! I am a god!” I rolled my eyes as he faced Bruce Banner, who was now huge and green. I could feel the anger rippling from him. “You dull creature, I will not be bullied!” He shouted. I watched as Bruce grabbed a hold of Loki’s foot, slamming him on one side before throwing him over and doing the same on his other side. He hit him on the ground a few times before throwing him aside.
“Puny god” He mumbled, before walking away. I watched as Loki crawls over to the stairwell to be confronted by the rest of the human team, who all look down on him. He crawled up, taking a deep breath before mumbling.
“it's all the same to you. I'll have that drink” Loki wheezed. I rolled my eyes as Bruce snorted. Loki looked to me, the disappointment on my face mirrored on his. “Lady Y/N…”
“Loki, there’s no going back on this one. Thor, your brother, and I both believed in you, we both abandoned our posts because of you. Now Odin might forgive Thor, because who’s to control him? But how do you think I’m going to fare? I’m weak enough as it is already loki, the stress of this is only going to make my mind wither faster” I snapped, taking steps towards the raven haired man.
“Y/N, I a-“ I slapped him across the face, turning back towards his brother.
“Cowshit Loki. You don’t care in the slightest about anyone else. If you claimed to care for me as you use to, then I would never have been put in this position in the first place” I turned one I reached Thor’s side. He took my hand in his, squeezing reassuringly. “You, Loki of Jotenheim, are as the humans say, a whole lot of ass!” I shouted, making the avengers laugh.
“Asshole” Natasha muttered, smiling to me. I nodded in thanks, smiling back.
“That one then” I recalled, looking back to Loki. Smirking as I controlled the energy around to enclose his wrists behind his back.
“Y/N!” He exclaimed, pulling on the binds. “Oh come on, seriously, you’re supposed to be MY guardian!” He groaned, making me smirk.
“As your guardian, I am intended to keep you on the right path, doing the right thing. This means, I am to scold you when you try to take over a planet!” I shouted, making his eyes widen. “Loki, damn it. What happened to the guy you were when you first saw me? The inquisitive guy who wanted to use me to further himself as a person?” I growled, taking a step towards him.
“I wanted to have sex with you, that’s a different thing” he laughed, rolling his eyes. “Very different” He glared, making me frown. I took in a deep breath before looking to Thor.
“Take him home. I have a meeting with your guardian to make” I sighed, making Thor shake his head.
“No, Lady Y/N, Loki needs you” Thor answered, smiling to me. “The 9 realms need you” He sighed.
“Tell that to sir jackass” I nodded to Loki who smiled to me.
“I missed you too love” He smiled, I rolled my eyes, watching as agents escorted Loki to a holding cell.
“Love?” Steve Rogers asked, making Thor boom with laughter.
“Loki has a… certain attraction towards his guardian” Thor chuckled, as everyone looked between myself and the Trickster in green. “Though it isn’t mutual” Thor added with a chuckle, making me smile back.
“It is forbidden for a guardian and their ward to fall in love… and I’m dying… What’s the point, I’m making the best of my time. Which I don’t need to spend chasing you around” I growled towards the god at the end, he just smiled coyly and laughed nervously.
--------------- Back in Asgard ---------------
I sat in the corner, watching as Loki paced back and forth. He mumbled away to himself about nothing in particular, he spun around looking around the cell. “Y/N?” He asked quietly. “Are you here?” I sighed and let the cloak fall, he looked down to me and offered a weak smile.
“Loki…” He shook his head, walking towards me. Loki slid down the wall, sitting beside me. His head fell back against the wall, raven hair spreading out across the pure white wall. He let out a small sigh, placing his hand on my thigh.
“Can we just sit in silence for a while, I need to think” He whispered, I nodded before resting my head on his shoulder. Loki squeezed my thigh lightly and hummed to himself. “I’m scared Y/N” he admitted
“What of Loki?” I asked, looking up to him. His blue eyes filled with water, a twitch in his lips.
“I don’t want you to die Y/N, I want to do all I can to stop that” Loki leant his head back on the wall, letting out a groan. “I don’t want you to go. I need you” He admitted. I smiled to myself and sat up, spinning to face him.
“Loki, you’re doing fine on your own” I chuckled. “You don’t need me anymore, just remember not to kill people” I laughed, making Loki smile slightly.
“Y/N, I’m trying to be serious, for once” He chuckled, looking to me. I smiled then nodded, signaling that my lips were sealed. “I’m 2200 years old, and you’ve been here for all that time. Do you not understand why I don’t want to be without you?” He asked, I bit into my lip and shrugged lightly.
“Loki, it can never happen” I sighed, looking to the walls around us. “we can never happen” I intertwined my fingers together, looking to the ground. I felt him slump beside me and he let out a sigh.
“What are you?” He asked quietly. “You never told me” Loki whispered, making me look up to him. I chuckled and bit into my lip.
“When I said I was the last of my species… I was the first, as well as the last” His eyebrows raised and I bit into my lip. “There is a term for the human gods, the gods known in christianity. The abomination. My mother was an abomination. My father was an archangel, and my mother was a the daughter of the devil and a prophet. I was raised amongst the angels, in the hopes that I would be morally good, though I aged much slower than all of them. They called me an abomination, in the human God’s books… I should not exist. They banished me away with the rest of the half angels, into a world where we live for our jobs. I never sleep, I can’t” Loki’s smile fell and I bit into my lip, nodding gently.
“It wasn’t too bad though Loki, never think that. I have loved this job, I love being with you, helping you. You actually made me feel normal, I’m not afraid to die. I’ve lived more in the past 2000 years than I ever did before” I whispered, making him smile warmly. “Loki, I’ve had a great life” I chuckled.
“Tough, you’ve got more to live” He retorted, finally turning to look at me. “You know how I’ve felt for a long time” Loki whispered, making me chuckle.
“What that you want to show me what sex is?” I snorted. “You made moves for a year, and then finally stopped when you realized it wasn’t going to happen” I teased, nudging him gently.
“Is that really how you think of me?” he asked, not bothering to hide the hurt in his tone. “I care about you, I have for a long time. You’re not just a guardian to me, you’re more than that…” Loki blushed lightly, humming to himself. “I honestly care so much about you Y/N, you should know that by now” he laughed, making me smile.
I let out a sigh, meeting his crystal blue eyes once more. He bit into his lip once more, before leaning in to press his lips to mine. I gasped, feeling his hands curl in my hair. A smile crept onto my lips before I started to kiss back. “I knew you secretly liked me” he whispered against my lips.
“Just shut up for once Loki” He laughed and pulled back, resting his forehead on mine. “Be yourself, not an arrogant prick for once” I whispered, making a smile spread across his face.
“Who is Loki; but an arrogant prick? Ask my brother” Loki joked, making me smile.
“No, Loki is a wonderful man, who has a big heart and just needs someone who sees him for who he really is, a genius and a romantic” I whispered, before pressing a kiss to his lips.

4 through 9 for the Inquisitor asks!!!!
Thank you baby!!
4. how did they feel about being called “the herald of andraste”?
At first it would be utter confusion. Oranari, for as smart as she is, wouldn’t know what it meant to /be/ a ‘herald’. What does that even mean? But after a while, it would sink in that the common people believe she speaks for the Maker and that she can do nothing to stop it, and it would really hit her. Internally, she would consider it shameful. As the daughter of the Keeper, she would be endlessly frustrated with the idea that should would in anyway be connected to the stain of the Chantry. Distantly, she’d know that the religion gives people a great amount of comfort on a daily level (like with Cass and Cullen.) Far more in the forefront, she think of how the Chantry has subjugated and destroyed her people, and secretly seethe anytime someone thought of her in connection to the Chantry. She would say /out loud/ that if it brought people comfort to know they had a champion, and if it changed the opinions of those bigoted people who use worlds like ‘knife-ear’, then it can’t be that bad of a thing, her personal feelings on the matter aside. But it would be a lie she told herself over and over again until she could believe it. Which she never world.
5. what are their religious beliefs, if they have any?
The Elven Gods! Naturally~
6. what is their opinion on the mage/templar war?
Okay, so when I was playing through, I tried to think of what Oranari would know and how she would feel. The Templars would frustrate her and leave her feeling personally insulted, as her mother is a mage. She would probably quickly realize that they abused their powers in ways she would recognize as an elf and she would empathize with the mages in that regard. She’d soon find out that it was pretty much true when they SUCKER PUNCH AN OLD WOMAN and then tell everyone to KISS THEIR ASS. No matter what her advisers say, she’d kick them to the curve and side with the mages. She can be stubborn when it comes to what is right, and damn the consequences.
7. who is your inquisitor’s best friend?
This is a very hard one to answer, actually. While Oranari is a very friendly person, she is also very private and self isolated. There is a duality to her personality. Oranari is the kind of person that everyone would consider a friend an ally, but if they ever stopped to think about it, they would realize that they don’t know anything about her. She wouldn’t ever talk about her clan, her family, or her feelings. At least not at length. She’d admire Cass, love to hear Varric’s stories, work hard to understand Cole and his needs, begrudgingly respect Viv (once she realized how hard she had to fight for her position), drink with Iron Bull, talk travel with Blackwall, laugh until she was purple with Dorian, and truly enjoy talking about Elven history with Solas (though she would FUCKING FIGHT HIM). But she’d never seek any one of them out, or give any of /herself/ over to them.
Would it be a cliche to say Cullen? Just because they have so much in common and nothing in common at all?
If I had to compt to three, it would be Dorian, Blackwall, and Iron Bull, just a smudge above the rest. You know how I played through all of the Hissing Wastes in one go and made up the story in my head that Oranari was doing the same thing? Stranded in the wasteland, miles away from anyone or anything, fighting tooth and nail to hold ground? In my head she brought Dorian (from a hot place and a mage), Iron Bull (from a hot place and a big tuffguy), and Blackwall (because he is use to rough travel). It would be tactical to begin with, and then she’d get to know them. Most of those campsites only have two tents, after all.
8. who is their rival?
Hard one! She’d keep her shitty older brothers in mind (namely Huon) as she /saved the damn world/ for them.
9. who is their love interest, if they chose one? do you ship them with anyone else/non-romanceable options?
Oh, dear Cullen. I know it sounds stupid, but I think she would be able to really talk to him without having to say anything at all. It would take time, but she would just be able to look at him after a mission and she’d just have to look at him going through withdraw and they’d know. In some ways they are kindred, she’d have a hard time with what she has to do. The scope of it. The world altering decisions she’d have to make. And she’d tell no one how much it affects her-- accept Cullen. After a long, long time. Because he had been through so much, himself.
Also, if Professor Kendric was an option, she’d probably give that poor sap the time of his fucking life.

Day 3 &4: Species and Mental State
It was only a matter of time before I was fashonably late for this: Writing Day 3 on Day 4? Really, Crim?? Well, only one thing to do: Write 3 and 4 in one post and pray despite the length it’s interesting.
Day 3 on my 30 day Challenge:
Talk about your OC’s species and demonym. A demonyn is the name for an inhabitant of a specific place, in this case their planet of birth, such as Tarisian (from Taris) or Mantellian (from Ord Mantell). How do they define their demonym? Do they have one? What influence does it have on their identity?
For Species: Do they have a sense of connection with others of their species? Were they raised with their own species or in a more diverse community? Do they follow any traditions or customs that are species-specific?
For Demonym: Do they feel a sense of connection to their planet of birth? Does the planet’s history and society effect them? Do they follow any traditions or holidays from their home planet?
My species and demonymn. Alrighty then.
My Species:
There is no nice way of saying this: I, a Sith Pureblood, am a mut between species. Yes, there is an oxymoron! A pureblood is a mut. Yet this is a true oxymoron, for a Sith Pureblood isn’t really a true Sith but a mix of Sith and human.
A long time ago, the Sith were a red skinned species native to Korriban. They had their own language, which is still spoken today, their own culture, and their own way of life. Then the fallen, dark Jedi came and subjugated the species. Thanks to Sith alchemy, the two interbred and Sith purebloods came out as a result.
In the Sith Empire, purebloods or tsis in my people’s language, are ones who have the obvious red markings and face tendrils of the Sith species. In many ways, we’re remnants of an ancient past with eyes straining towards the future.
Now, do I have a sense of connection with any of them?
This has evolved over the years. When i was a lad, I wanted nothing to do with the Sith part of me. Why would I want anything to do with a people who were abusive; never mind the Force, who seemed to condone the abusive behaviour? In truth, I think that’s why I let intelligence “turn me human” for all intents and purposes.
Yet, here I am writing this as a Force user, and quite content with. Proof the Force works in mysterious ways. I decided to train in the Force after Zakull came. I had to choose between being stubborn, or ensuring Kardeva had a family to come home to after getting out of carbonite. I chose the latter, and in that I feel connection to my people.
I also feel that connection when I lived with my adopted family. They showed me there are many ways to be Sith. Many of them died when Zakuul, but my brother survived along with most of his fortress. Rebuilding it was hard, as was burying the dead, but we pulled through as a family. I think during that time I felt closest to my Sith ancestry than I ever had. Intense sorrow breeds intense unity and division at the same time. It’s a miracle.
Finally, I raised 3 children who are all tsis. Hard to not feel the connection when raising the next generation. They challenge my understanding of our people, challenge how I conduct myself, and force me to remember what it was like growing up tsis in a good way. And I think I challenge them to not solely stick with the status quo: Only Zeon, my daughter, is training to be a Sith. Ssra is following in my footsteps by spying on Sith Intelligence for the Alliance, and Nwit became a Mandalorian. Tied to a rich history, yet forging our own way ahead. I love my family.
I feel connection to my humanity when I’m with Kardeva and when I’m cooking. Kardeva is human, and I see my humanity reflecting back at me every time I look at him. It’s why I couldn’t rebuild my life, and move on, while he was locked in carbonite. To see such an important part of myself reflected back was too much to so easily walk away from, even if it meant I never get him back. So, Kardeva is my connection to my humanity.
The second one is my cooking. When I was doing infiltration, I found that people say many things while breaking bread. So, I found a way to get trained as a chef so I could eavesdrop while making and serving meals. Most of the dishes I learned to make are geared more toward a human palette, so there is the connection. Now that I’m a part of Alliance Intelligence I combine human and pureblood cooking together. Have to keep both pallets happy at my house.
My Demonym
I’m a Kaasian by birth: Born and raised in Kaas City. I lived there for the first 15 years of life, and off and on in between intelligence missions. It was where I first learned about life, who I am as a man, and where my place was in the Empire. I miss it when I’m away, and feel nostalgia when I return. It is my home.
I think everyone feels a sense of connection to their birthplace, regardless of if it’s a good or bad connection. While family wise, it was a bad connection, in terms of Kaas over all it’s a good connection: I know where all the hang out spots are, know how to get around the Sith Academy there, and I even know where the best place to get photos of the Citadel are!
Does the planet’s history and society affect people who live on Kaas? Short answer: Everything about its history affects everyone! No, that isn’t an exaggeration. Ever since Dromund Kaas was colonized, the focus has always been serving the Emperor and getting revenge on the Republic.
youtube
At the Sith Academy, where all tsis go to learn their basic education and Sith training, I learned what the Republic did to our people at the end of the Great Hyperspace War. I then learned why we needed to train and prepare to go to war as soon as we were of age. Given the war was still going on when I was young, I knew I had little choice on where my destiny lied. My mother and father couldn’t be prouder to see their son trained as a juggernaut and creating the next generation.
To that end, most of our holidays and celebrations revolved around the Emperor or defeating the Republic: Colonization Day, which used to be the Emperor’s birthday until Empress Acina took over; Kitok Kursas Diena (New Years Day); Katedij Pradzia (Korriban Rises Day), to celebrate the day the Empire took Korriban back from the Republic; birthdays of important Sith like Ajunta Pall, Naga Sadow, Marka Ragnos, and Darth Vitiate; and days where we remember our dead like Visa Virmsezi Arsiasiza (All Hallows Eve), and Diena iv Liudesys, the Day of Sorrows.
I remember Diena iv Liudesys the most, since it was one of the few days we had off from school. It was the day the Republic came to Korriban to destroy my people completely and utterly. It both remembers their fate, and strengthened our resolve to make the Jedi and Republic pay. The moment the Republic attacked, Dromund Kaas went silent for 5 min: Everyone simply froze with no sounds or movements. Even droids had to be quiet. If one was driving through the jungle, they had to stop and pray the jungle creatures didn’t notice them.
I remember thinking about the Great Hyperspace War, and about how somewhere someone in the Republic is patting themselves on the back for being the good guys. The good guys build on the deaths of my people. It made me angry, and made me want to see them destroyed eventually. Now, though, Empress Acina changed the day into Isatre Vunyi va «Eternal Resolve». Zakuul is the real enemy now, she said to the populace, and we need to focus on them over a battle that happened over 1000 years ago. Smart woman, the Empress, a worthy successor to Darth Marr.
Alright, that’s enough for Day 3. Now for Day 4:
Day 4: Mind Matters
Briefly describe your OC’s mental state. Are they neurotypical or neuroatypical? Do they have any mental illnesses or a history with mental illness? How do they handle stress? Are they Force-sensitive or Force-blind? Does this effect their mental state?
Briefly, hmm? I can understand briefly. One’s mental state can be an entire Master’s thesis if they’re not careful. I would describe my mental state as...
No.
Caedusios? Why are you here writing?
Because one’s mental state is best assessed from the outside, not within. You would just say you’re mental state is neuro-typical and perfect. I can give a more accurate assessment.
And you’re late for your date with Kardeva.
You’re right, I am! Alright, you can write this. All I ask is don’t make me look insane. Wouldn’t want to scare off my new readers...
If you, the readers, haven’t determined he’s not entirely sane then I’m not sure whose blog you were reading. Anyways, I am Darth CAedusios. I am Crimsèn’s adopted older brother. Biologically we’re first cousins: his father and my father are brothers. Because we’re both only children, we grew up together on Kaas as brothers since our families had no where else to go but to one another’s house.
I have seen Crimsèn grow from being a teenager trying to be who his parents pre-determined into a man relatively content with himself. I can’t say he has grown into a neurotypical man, anymore than I can say he was ever a purely cisgender person. No, his mental state has gone through many gymnastics.
I would say that Crimsèn has a condition called Asperger’s Syndrome, and some traits of borderline personality disorder. While he was a social butterfly, and still is in so many ways, he never intuitively understood social ques save mine and my mother and father’s. Also, Crim is quite obsessive about specific things to the point where he almost refused to do anything but his interests.
This has lead to a double edged sword with the Force. Between ages 1 and 15, Crim was obsessed with becoming the Sith Lord his father wanted his only son to be. As a result, I remember him being so obsessed with learning the sabre combat of Marka Ragnos and Naga Sadow, that he couldn’t be bothered to eat.
At age 15 (by the way, I am using Imperial Standard years), for reasons I’m assuming Crimsèn will explain tomorrow, he stripped himself of the Force. For the next 15 years, he obsessively resisted any hint of being a pureblood outside of looks. It drove him to serve the EMpire under intelligence, suppress most of his pureblood characteristics, and in some ways quietly accept being brainwashed under intelligence. They used the CAstellan Mind control in order to ensure he would never go back to our people nor ruin any missions because he acted on emotions over logic.
Now, his obsessions are mostly on taking care of his family. To that end, he was trained in using his returned Force abilities at last. He couldn’t fight Zakuul without all the tools, and abilities he had, just like I couldn’t fight Zakuul by sticking with the narrow ways of Jedi and the Sith.
Now, where does borderline personality disorder fit into this? Well, Crimsèn only has two traits of it really: Abandonment fears and emotional swings. The emotional swings are thanks to him being a Sith and his connection to the darkside as a result. Not saying it is good or evil to have such swings; it is what it is.
I believe his abandonment fears are from being abused. Abuse teaches people many things, including the belief that if they under perform by a fraction of a percent, they will be abandoned. For Crim, that abandonment meant his own father would murder his only son the moment he learned he was gay (I know was going to save that for Crim to explain tomorrow during the Gender/Sexuality topic, but I felt it was needed in context here). Then it was join intelligence, or his first love would abandon him via Intelligence executing his first love.
Now with his marriage to Kardeva... I know that the distance broke him and left Crim vulnerable to many influences. I chose, as his master, to step back and let him either stand strong in the storm or fall to it because that was his trial. As a master and mentor, it’s important to know when a person needs to face a trial on their own or face it with some guidance.
I can say that while Crim’s abandonment fears are still there, he has learned how to live with them now in a way that he controls them instead of the other way around. I’m proud of my brother for facing them.

Do you know of any fics where sherlock was abused as a child?
Reply: There are a huge number of these if you go looking on AO3 but I have only read a small portion. Here are the ones I’ve really liked. Some of these include past abuse (sexual/physical/psychological) while others depict the abuse directly. All Johnlock.
Ashes to Ashes series by silkmoth. Rated M, 37K. John gets to know Sherlock's father.
Mind the Gap by sweetcupncakes. Rated E, 45K.An introspective journey through the life and relationships of Sherlock Holmes.
Castle and Sand by grey853. Rated E, 158K.Sherlock and John both have difficult pasts that affect their evolving relationship. When John prevents a mugging, it sets off a dangerous chain of events that not only impacts him, but his whole family. In the end there's a wedding and a honeymoon, but will there really be a happy ending?
Transports series by ancientreader. Rated E, 135K.How to become a consulting detective.
The Burning Life by morwen_maranwe. Rated E, 229K.After being shot and invalided from the Army, John is living a despondent life with a wife who has no respect and no love for him any longer, yet he is desperate to make their marriage work. In a last ditch effort to save their marriage, he moves them out of London and to some small, nameless town where his good friend, Mike Stamford, has been able to get him a job as a teacher at a secondary school. There he meets a teenage boy who he has an undeniable connection to, and who has the ability to make his life seem less meaningless. Though he knows that it’s wrong, John just can’t stop the relationship he is developing with Sherlock from growing. It slowly begins to spiral out of control, consuming his entire life like a wild fire and changing him in ways he didn’t think were possible anymore.
Command Structure by 221b_hound. Rated E, 49K.Sherlock Holmes returns from his hunt to destroy Moriarty's network. He comes home to John, and at long last they start this thing between them that couldn't begin while Moriarty threatened them. But Sherlock has returned fractured and suffering anxiety attacks. He thinks he needs discipline - the whip - to help him focus and be strong. But his problems are deeper and run back to a childhood of neglect. John Watson is prepared to be Sherlock's Captain, but he's a doctor too. His command style isn't about pain and subjugation. It's about care and responsibility: and those concepts go in both directions in Captain Watson's command structure.
it’s the law (and it wasn’t made to be broken) by SailorChibi. Rated E, 16K.John doesn't mind treating the homeless in the A&E. He only minds when they follow him home.
What If I Stayed Forever by SailorChibi. Rated M, 13K.The Holmes family has always had their own way of keeping Sherlock under control. When John finds out that Mycroft has kept up the tradition, he puts a stop to it. But years of being told that he's not worthy of affection, only discipline through punishment, has broken Sherlock in ways that John can't imagine, and John has no idea if he can be enough to put Sherlock back together again.Fortunately Captain John Watson never steps down from a challenge.
Misconceptions by kuhekabir. Rated E, 29K.John's betrayal has more consequences than even Sherlock could've anticipated. With Sherlock's past unravelling right before his eyes, will he be able to forgive John and more importantly will he come out this new case alive and with his sanity intact? Plus an interfering older brother and one curious Detective Inspector and the scene is set for chaos...of the emotional kind.
The Wench Is Dead by Chryse. Rated E, 15K.“You thought…not just you, Molly too. Probably everyone assumed it. You thought that bad things happened because I used drugs. That I made terrible choices and got myself hurt. And you weren’t wrong, not exactly. You just got it backwards.”What Sherlock put in the box.
