aita for not inviting a friend of mine into my dnd campaign?

ive been writing a campaign that im really proud of and have a good vision for, and decided to include Mark (because we're best friends) Zeke (because he wants to play dnd more and has no opportunities) Dan (bc he never gets to be a player) and then another close friend of mine outside the group named Gabe (who i love but never get to see) I love their characters & we're all super excited.

Thing is. I was briefly talking with Dan, Zeke and Mark about it at school bc I'd sent everyone a little intro message for the world and they were all super excited and wanted to talk to me about their classes. Virgil had no problem with this and was excitedly asking abt the world + characters along with some other friends from school, but Martin got quiet and went and sat by himself. Their characters are not only emotional, but like. crazy. they play a bunch of cool tieflings with insane magic classes & features and then, again,,,, dont roleplay them. I didnt want the group to be big and had a good reason for including everyone that i did, and our other friends that arent in it (Virgil, Ray who is Martins sister btw, all our other d&d interested friends at school) literally dont mind at all. i just wrote a campaign that theyre not in. Martin also has their feelings hurt very easily, so to be honest i just find her being sad about not being in it just... stupid. id never say that to his face & i get that he feels bad, but like....cmon.

The other friend, Gabe, is friends with Zeke and Mark and I, and Dan is good around new people,, but Martins really quiet around people he doesnt know well, so if i invited her anyway they'd probably play the game even less than they already do.

again, im really bad at having an actual perspecitve on this. Virgil said he feels bad for Martin but not for himself, as far as i know Dan doesnt know about the situation, and i literally just dont wanna involve Mark and Zeke (Zeke HATES conflict and when people fight so he really doesnt have to be involved.) Mark Martin and I have all been really close friends since literally 7th grade and I guess Martin especially feels left out that I involved Mark and not them but Marks both really good at character creation and also talking in character, and like, hes my best friend who i do everything with.

since hes open to feedback im considering talking to james roach about giving jade the justice she deserves after her narrative shafting in act 6 and one-dimensional ooc-ness (and also being a plot device deprived of agency) in the epilogues. if i do im probably going to link to this post……

you say, “i want you to know if youre having problems with the story you can come to me with it and i will hear you out”. first of all you are such a good dude and have such a good open honest approach to the fans. i need to get that out there, because i know you’re just as much a fan of these characters and world are we are. secondly, i don’t know what your plans for homestuck beyond canon are, but dave and jade’s poor handling is a problem in both homestuck canon (act 6, even act 5 fucking them over with “tell, don’t show”; see the latter half of section 1 of the post at > Dave: Deploy cloning apparatus. and section 2) and post-canon that has yet to be addressed.

i understand the nuances of making things flow in a story; things that have already been established can’t be simply retconned. i wrote this post knowing that in mind and hopefully working around that into believably timed and justified/needed arcs gives it more potential

jade is a character i care about so much, and many fans also. her dynamic with dave was one of my favorites but the resolution to their separation…is not even really a resolution. it’s hard to talk about one without the other since theyve always been narratively intertwined. or at least jade has

remember how they musically collaborated more than the other kids? (crystalanthemums is their surprisingly tender song dont forget. i saw that the weird troll grub versions of objects make a comeback in the upd8; make music a relevant part of homestuck in-universe again too </3) dave sending her sbahj furry poster in the mail? the first ones to use a collaborative fraymotif in the comic? kringlefucker and conksuck boot? literally collaborating on creating the right seed for the new universe? and then dave died in jade’s arms and they were separated for 3 years and then that never gets touched on because of the retcon and all the other endgame shit going on (and lets be real grimbark jade from before the retcon wasn’t a satisfying reunion either). we get like, a brief exchange of dialogue at the very very end that made you want to see MORE of them after the battle but it. doesnt happen.

and then in the epilogues jade gets warped into this oddly hypersexual ooc one-dimensional character meant to narratively get in the way of davekat and it’s so awkward and uncomfortable for them. and even THEN in meat timeline gets her agency revoked by the narrative with alt calliope. and in candy dave realizes he’s gay (i thought he was explicitly bi? didnt he call jane hot multiple times both pre-and post-retcon, and once call roxy a “choice babe” in pajamas before he knew it was his ectomom?? if you’re actually gay and in denial why would you have these subconscious freudian blunders). and being married to jade gnaws at him because of it which is. unsatisfying i guess and isn’t consistent with dave’s established sexuality…and then he dies leaving his probably concerned wife and becomes a robot. even if the “point” is that the epilogues are metanarrative commentary about storytelling and candy represents the kind of fanfic that goes off the rails with fanservice it doesn’t feel good when i still care about these characters and their established canons. and a lot of people are in the same camp as me regarding this. it’s still an uncomfortable resolution for their relationship

i really want to see jade’s arc overcoming being used as a puppet by the narrative and the space aspect. just some things to think about / consider that have been running through my head: she’s a witch, right? isn’t what she’s supposed to do is actively bend the rules of her aspect? feferi bended the rules of life by asking the horrorterrors to create dream bubbles so the deceased could still sort of “live” which had a massive narrative impact. who exactly determines that being spacebound means you are fated to be passive and alone? the author? alt calliope? how do we know alt calliope can be trusted or if she’s just projecting her experiences as the most passive class possible onto jade, who ironically has an active manipulation class but is forced to be passive for some reason? normal calliope wasn’t right about everything classpect-related either.

ultimately these things are up to you. you’re still the director of course. but i’m speaking to you, as equally caring of these characters as you and everyone on the team, as a hypothetical suggestion or just something to consider for a jade arc: i think it would do such good to jade and the comic as a whole to see her speak to the manager and recognize the power she has and take back the reigns over her own life and dignity. jade is MAD that she had her own possibilities for socialization and agency taken away from her. and with floralmarsupial, my beloved mutual floral who i went to homestuck high together with, i KNOW the potential they possess to write a compelling arc for jade harley. i think everyone knows too lol floral is THE compelling deep jade harley fanwork big name fan. i dont know what we got to lose. with you guys in charge now, and with the last we see of jade in hs^2 (now hs:bc) fighting callie’s influence and advocating for her own agency, really the only way to go from here for jade is up. (assuming she doesn’t permadie of peanut but i doubt that’s going to happen since she’s one of the original kids and it wouldn’t be satisfying storytelling. and it’s homestuck)

this statement so ripe with potential to me ^ and we’re left on a cliffhanger with jade going in this direction

i feel like that would address the issue people had with jade’s out of left-field promiscuity in the epilogues and even leftovers of it in hs^2. not only do i think primal platonic touch starvation would be a more meaningful and evocative type of interaction to give them at some point, it wouldn’t rock the boat or create any ship drama (davekat has long since sailed and most people seem to be on board with it) and it would probably be really positive representation of these sorts of things which not only throws a bone to aroace people but just depicting this sort of thing normalizes the fact that two people can be close and not necessarily in an official relationship.

this is a good transition point to this post also which is basically an extension to this one. it’s exactly the issues i had. it’s on the nature of what they had going and how much they mean to each other but how the storytelling held them back when it was unnecessary

this breaks my heart. mr. roach and hs:bc writing team please i miss my favorite blorbo duo being happy in each other’s company. they were such good friends but circumstances pulled them apart. i miss when they created music together and talked about their interests and exchanged quips. i am such a well of ideas for stuff like this. show us how much they mean to each other again

Most obvious case is Raphael, because Mikey and Leo don't really do anything.

He's like an odd mix of the more classic, angrier Raphs and 87's flamboyant, sarcastic Raph.

He likes fighting, but I think it might be a release of some sort because he can't lash out at the things he's actually mad about: his life/situation. He is very pessimistic about his place in the world, and if Archie was written by more competent writers it could've been SOO GOOOOOD

When he first got with Ninjara during the weird Hiroshima arc, he literally almost got sucked into Hell because of whatever negative thoughts were swirling around in his noggin. Like... are we not going to elaborate on that?? He actually gets trapped in Hell later on after Ninjara doxxed him, and I thought they were gonna bring up whatever's wrong with him because you needed a pure mind to get out of Hell... and they didn't. Ninjara apologized for doxxing him and he apologized for being a lil bitch and they escaped wahoo. (5 panels btw)

(Side note: they made Splinter a survivor of Hiroshima in these comics btw. I'm so glad I pirated these things... also the comics take place in the late 90s so Archie Splinter is like 60-80yro btw. I do NOT blame any1 for not wanting to read these 77 issues of nonsense HELP)

Raphael gets the most interesting character interactions/arcs imo, likely because he is clearly someone's fave.

Also he roughouses with his bros a lot more in Archie. And he wears a stipid as hell black latex stealth suit for like 30 issues iirc.

Mikey gets kidnapped by the American army once and that's the most important thing he does. I guess he still has his surfer accent, but he's just there in the BG for the most part. Least problematic character in Archie.

Leonardo doesn't really do anything, as I've said earlier. He likes talking about how much he hates guns. He's also a lot more serious and doesn't really have any discernable quirks (besides the gun thing)

He is very much a standard Leonardo boiled down to the basics. Ie: older brother, leader, protective, composed, serious... Boring. He's boring. He doesn't have the quirks or charm that 87 Leo has imo.

While 87 Leonardo is a pretty flat character, due to how the 87 series is written in general, he has a very caring, sincere personality and expressive interests shown throughout the show that adds to his charm. And he doesn't have that in Archie.

Archie Donatello... is more like 03 Donatello from what I've seen. I haven't seen the entirety of 03, but from what I've seen from clips, 03 Don is a lot more... calm? Compared to other Donnies?

Also haven't read the Mirage comics, and I've heard nothing about Mirage Donatello so I dunno how he is compared to the og

But yeah, he rambles about smart stuff but he isn't all that loud about it. "Tbf you need a very high IQ to understand the difference between physics and AP physics" -- Archie Don doesnt talk like that, god bless.

But also he invented time travel in the future, and that lead to like one single good arc, the mutanimals dying brutally, and the convoluted finale that revealed it was all a timeloop or smth... so yeah I have beef towards him for that one. His future self is p cool though, he also dies.

maybe because im in the cm punk fandom so i dont see a lot of alternate analysis or opinions of the promo that are more appreciative to seth's work (to be fair, the other side is absolutely hijacked by ppl who are only there to say punk is a cancer but never watch wwe in years) but also :

1. Punk takes a shot of seth that management loves him, even though hes literally besties with triple h, management's finest soldier.

2. His entire promos in wwe canon was all about not getting opportunities he feels like he deserved to have, which is fair, but it doesnt escape the whiny allegations.

3. Still doesnt excuse the medical issues though, which punk is completely on the right for and seth was an asshole for sidestepping and ignoring it. Others have explained this better than me so im not gonna be redundant and just move on

4. But lets draw a comparison to mjf's entire reason of hating punk is because he left wrestling. Its just as nonsensical and entitled, yet fans reacted differently. Which is understandable, since rollins is considered babyface while MJF is a heel. You explicitly know mjf is the bad guy. But rollins being babyface doesnt mean punk is explicitly a heel. On screen, this is still a face vs face feud that might not be executed perfectly at times. Unless punk explicitly does a heel turn in the future (which im not ruling as impossible), ppl are being dumb for assuming wwe has punk haters in the writing staff. Who knows, maybe theyre keeping it ambiguous because it will drawn more attention online? Maybe we need to wait and see before casting judgement?

5. Also back to point one punk brought up becky first before he got hit with the no children insult lol. Who wanted to take a break to be a mom as a cheap shot to seth. Yeah we should probably examine why it was becky, who feel like she should be the one taking a break and the no kids insult from seth has sexist implications, but again... Punk insulted seth's wife as if shes an extension of seth's ideals and standards, and its still cheered by people online and offline. Even if its been okayed, which im sure it is, you'd be hypocritical to say seth's no children insult to be offensive but doesnt bristle when punk implied seth is a hypocrite because becky didnt follow his career choices no matter the reason

6. Punk is a beast who absolutely won that promo battle and cooked seth as the kids say, but people are hyperbolic when they say seth cant talk at all. Worst part is, its not even a bit. If he wasnt decent on a level above at least 60% of all american wrestlers, he wouldnt be in the wwe especially without family relations to help him. He wouldnt be main eventing wrestlemania and be pushed so heavily. Look at the crowd reactions! Punk cooked him but the crowds were still screaming for him. WWE can be shit sometimes but every company that depends on the show drawing money tries to have standards.

7. I still think this feud should be over before mania. I'm sorry but i want my boy holding the title FAST and his biological clock is running out! Also ehhh, we had two obsessive fan turned hater feuds, the third one at least feels different lately, but i want variety. It was only this week that im convinced this wont be a rehash of punk's previous feuds. I want him to use different material other than "oh i crush all my haters" or "im getting so much money". I really miss that variety punk had during his first run, the ses and nexus and best in the world gimmicks are all still very punk but its all different sides of him amplified. Also, i like when punk is an underdog facing someone much much stronger than him both physically and mentally. i want him to show that side more. i love our youth, and loved the latest ep, but something has been bothering me, the whole ''going abroad to study'' thing that was mentioned literally in every single episode and the overbearing mother thing just got glossed over just like that... like??? how did minase ended up convincing his mom to let him stay? why didnt we get a scene of him standing up for himself and telling her what he actually wanted to do? i know the run time is very short and they dont got a lot of episodes but damn i just wish we got to see more than that, even the whole thing of hirukawa's abusive dad got more closure i feel, i hope they at least mention it even if its just 5 secs in the next ep, its such a shame when a good plot/story doesnt get enough time to develop, i still love it tho, and im really excited for the finale, but yeah..

I suspect that he went overseas in the time we didn't see. There was a timeskip of several years that we saw nothing of and, yes, showing us nothing of that time skip was poor planning and poor showing on their part. I wish it had been made more clear during Minase's framing device journal writing how long has passed and how far away he'd been.

He might have also stood up to her but with the number of years apart implied by where they are in university (working on a Big Film Project) makes it seem likely to me that Minase finished high school overseas and then was able to come back to Japan for university which his mother may simply have allowed.

It is interesting to see just a complete lack of their parents at this point and to not feel it. We feel the loss of Hirukawa's father but everything else just kind of feels... blank.

But yeah, I don't know if we're going to get closure on Minase's family or Hirukawa's mother or anything besides their relationship and their desperate need for each other and the letters they keep writing to no one.

i think its so funny when youre on the wrong side of the pjsk fandom before you get into it because you will see people talking about rui like hes trying to kill tsukasa and is literally making saw traps just to put that guy in them like a lab rat and is just absolutely evil and manipulative and then you actually read the stories and rui is just such a kind and caring guy that when tsukasa did get hurt by his machines [ON ACCIDENT] he straight up went welp. guess im never doing anything dangerous ever again and im a failure as a director and only got over it when tsukasa started screaming at him that he likes his crazy ideas and if he didnt want to do them he simply wouldnt. or when rui got hurt when tsukasa couldnt test the thing out and his thought was just "well im glad it wasnt tsukasa that got hurt :] it would really mess up the show if our star✩ was the injured one"

or you will see people talking about ena like shes the worst person ever and is just mean to everyone for fun and hates everyone with her whole being. and again. you read the stories and shes just a girl that struggles with her emotions. shes trying her best but she just never learned how to control her emotions and how to deal with them because she lives in a home where everyone feels somewhat hostile towards her, especially her father who she feels only wants to aggravate her on purpose because he never clearly communicates with her. you can see she is very kind and caring as well, especially visible with how she treats mizuki and their secret. yes shes mean at first but shes clearly trying to work on her issues and do better. her relationship with akito is very complicated but she clearly cares about him too, which is shown in the childhood flashback where she tells him that he should find something to do that he loves and stick to it, she encouraged him to not give up so easily on something if it feels right and he lives by those words to this day.

and akito is portrayed as an asshole, especially to ena, but he also clearly cares about her. hes not good at stating it but he clearly shows it with my favourite example being when ena was having something of a breakdown and was trashing her art supplies. akito walked in, agitated at the noise but as soon as he saw what she was doing he was clearly worried. he didnt want her giving up on her passion, just like ena didnt want him to give up on his. of course, ena in the emotional state she was in didnt listen, but akito knows her. his "you will regret this" mightve been taken as mean and something he said just to be annoying but it wasnt. he said that because he knows his sister and how much she wants to create, and she would definetly regret getting rid of all that stuff. he tried his best to calm her down in some way, to talk to her, to give her some time to think about this and if this is really something she wants to do or if her emotions are getting the best of her again.

i think about that moment at least 5 times a day because its such a nothing scene but it actually shows so much to me, as someone who was both ena and akito in similar situations. sorry i care a lot about the shinonome siblings they mean the world to me

tldr: rui isnt a manipulative ass he just has a hobby, ena isnt a bitch she just doesnt know how to deal with emotions properly and has trouble understanding how others feel, and akito isnt a shitling of a brother he actually tries his best

2. soobin and yn were roommates and what yn doesnt know is that soobin was that member of the rock band hes been listening and also was the tall guy with the mask and big tiddies and abs that always wear calvin klrin and make sure his outfits make him show it which he wants to get fucked by him so bad. soobin and yn hates eo tho cause yn is annoyed with the commotion soobin is making all the time and soobin is annoyed at yn just cause hes cute and hes fun to tease so his surprise when he sees yn fingering himself to photo of him he knows who his muse is gonna be in the next album

3. sunghoon and sunoo are really close and ppl think theyre a couple and knowing sunoo being so pretty yn thinks hes not gonna get sunghoon and he becomes jealous overtime at sunoo for being so pretty and getting the hottest guy in the school but that all stops when a drunk confession by sunoo says how sunghoon wants yn to [REDACTED] and yn is now frozen when sunoo dropped forward to him and he has to help sunghoon to bring sunoo home and trying to cover the fact that he knows that sunghoon has the heats for him (and maybe sunoo has the heats for yn too)

5. bangchan/felix (idk they both fit) is an obsession for no reason should you be buying all their merch watching their relaxing lives (no its not cause theyre shirtless half the time) and giving and funding them gifts if you can i mean its rlly embarrassing but at least you wont get to meet them so its just support so... "hey! im your new neighbor. hope we get along" that accent feels all too familiar?.!,!,

The whole "Thomas doesn't owe us anything" is stupid. Because, yes he does. This isn't some hobby he is doing on the side for some cash. This, content creating, IS his job. His literal job is to make entertainment. He has promised us, his customers, a product (SS videos) and he hasn't delivered it. Imagine working a 9-5 desk job and telling your boss "I'll get the report you really want done" and then get anything else done except for what the boss wants. This is basically like Netflix renewing a season of a popular show, then nothing comes from it, of course people are going to be mad/annoyed. I'm glad he's making content he likes, but people being annoyed is valid

listen, im an artist and a writer. i mostly keep to myself and draw/write what i want. i can go days without doing either for fun, and thats fine! its just for fun and for myself, i dont owe people anything

...but i also do commission work. i also participate in art trades and gift exchanges. i need to do these within a certain amount of time, because im getting something out of it (whether it be art or money), ergo, i owe people something

10 years ago, it wouldn't matter if thomas didnt post a vine for a while. he didnt owe us anything! he wasnt being paid! but now, it does matter when thomas postpones the sasi finale for years... because he's being paid by both ad revenue and his patreon. he owes us something.

YESSS SABRINA WAS SUCH A FASCINATING CHARACTER OMGG! even though we didnt get to see much of her shes so crucial to the plot despite dying a long time before the fic was set like she fr set off a chain reaction 😭

and the way you write characters is so impressive because jakehoon are pure EVIL but you had me somehow feeling BAD for them?? i was lowkey getting emotional in the scene where sunghoon was "sacrificing" himself for jake because i didnt know hed escape LOL

i absolutely adored the way you crafted sunghoon's relationship with sabrina. the way he imagined spending the rest of his life or at least multiple years with her and not wanting to kill her until he had to because she found out his secret omg.. he really did care for her even if it wasnt conventionally and more in a serial killer fasination type of way such as letting her be with him for the rest of her life (absolute genius btw) but also fulfilling her final wishes for her son, and i think that sunghoon showing his affection in his own twisted and fucked up ways was a MASTERPIECE and you should be incredibly proud of yourself like yes YOU did that‼️

i think part of the beauty of your writing is how conflicted you make the reader feel. i mean i personally felt bad for jake when he had to see his mother get raped and killed when the last thing on her mind was him. plus describing the things jake had to witness as a child makes you think that mayyybe hes not a bad person because he was conditioned to think in certain ways. but THEN you remember that his form of retaliation was killing and raping another woman to "get back" at sunghoon and he actually is a bad person and then you feel guilty for feeling sorry for him. its a constant switch between "its not his fault!" and "at this point he needs to take responsibility" and i actually found it very amusing because we KNOW jake is not a good person at all and yet we cant help but sympathise for him. along with the internal conflict i also love

and ANOTHER thing is that rereading sexcapade/dylidl was a completely different experience while knowing what would happen in the future. it might make me look strange but i found it funny that mc is so romantically attached to sunghoon and imagines a future with him because she has absolutely no idea whats in store for her..

okok FINALLY i just have a question - if you havent thought about it feel free to ignore but what do you think about jakes future? do you see him staying in contact with sunghoon and continuing to help his dad or do you imagine them taking separate paths now that sunghoon has to go in hiding? and if jake doesnt stay in contact with hoon, do you think he would leave the life of killing people behind him especially after seeing what happened to sabrina since his last murder was just to get back at his dad or do you think he would continue to rape and kill women?

stopppp i dont even know what to say 😭😭😭😭😭 THE!!!! CONFLICT!!!!!!! it’s like… jake never had a real chance at normalcy lol his mom got killed when he was 5 by his deranged serial killer father so ofc you wanna feel bad for him, but then homeboy grows up to be just as sick dhdhdhshjdhshh i dont know if i mentioned this in the fic? probably not but jake is kinda like a younger sunghoon? in the past, sunghoon was very impulsive/reckless (as evident in the way he killed martina). and jake reacts to literally everything on impulse 😭

there is a big difference too, though. i literally do not remember what i wrote but i’ll just say this anyway in case it was never mentioned. sunghoon likes the act of killing (strangling particularly). it gets him off, it makes him feel a spark. strangling someone to death is kind of intimate, if you will, considering 1) how much time/effort it takes and 2) the fact that he gets to literally feel his victim take their last breath. that part is electrifying to him. it’s mostly about the physical part.

but jake? i wouldn’t say that jake particularly likes killing. he doesn’t have a compulsion to kill like sunghoon does. when he attempted to kill christine, it was bc he was angry asfk and literally couldn’t stand her. when he killed dr. lee, it wasn’t necessarily all that personal; he wanted to get back at his dad (i told you guys before but jake is petty AS FUCK in this series lmfaooo). jake’s desire to kill comes from a place of deep-seated rage that festers over a period of time.

that said, he very much is capable of killing for other reasons. jake enjoys inflicting psychological torture. he doesn’t need to kill them; he would be perfectly fine with just watching them lose their fucking minds lol. the main reason i don’t say no to him becoming a serial killer is that like his father, he will get bored of his victims, and need to replace them, but it’s not like he can have the victim walking around with the memory of what he did. so yeah, he would have to eliminate them!!!!!

as for whether or not hoon and jake stay in contact, i don’t really think they would… it’s not that jake wouldn’t want to, i just think that sunghoon would avoid having direct contact with him because it’s better if they don’t (legal stuff). i do think, however, that he would have heeseung keep an eye on him though :))
