So what if Danny was meant to fall into the Ghost Portal and wind up on the other side? He was inside the portal after all, aren’t you meant to go in one way and out the other?
What if the reason why that course of action didn’t happen was because someone gave him a gentle nudge back out?
What if this person was Clockwork?

Terry knows how old Daniel is because the Don tells him: "he's not been out more than three months yet." Which means, as young as you're going to get them legal, 18 plus three months.
.
So, Daniel’s birthday is in December, on the eighteenth. He’s been out for three months according to Pop LaRusso. So roughly around March eighteenth? I think you said Terry pushed for the marriage to happen as soon as possible, which was three months later. So roughly a June wedding? That would be fun; in the states apparently June is considered the month for weddings! ♥️
Still, my poor Danny. Only three months to marry the man who is a decade older than you, who is both a criminal and astranger, who threatened to murder your family, possibly kidnap you if he did, and then do god knows what after he has you in his clutches. At least now a wedding makes it legal, despite the threat. No wonder Daniel is so frightened and angry and hurt and terrified. No amount of love notes and doting and sexy bespoke wedding-night lingerie from Terry would ever soothe the dark and scary nature of the situation.
Daniel is eighteen (thankfully, because we all know Terry would have immediately wanted him underage too)—but he’s still such a child. I’m lowkey surprised he didn’t run away…but then considering Terry would have happily and furiously annihilated his family for that and still found him and made him his…well. Daniel really was wonderfully brave and yes, so open hearted to stand his ground and try to build a marriage with a monster.
Ah, but when is a monster not a monster? When you love it! And is Terry a bigger monster than those who'd let his Daddy get mauled by a machine (if he was a wee bit drunk)? There's violence this little one has never heard of. Like, and Don LaRusso could have just paid him, but no, he's too good for that, it would get him deposed by his own paesani or whatever it is he calls them, and that's somehow Terry's fault now, hmm? Interesting. Also, he didn't even ask for the boy! I think this topic is officially banned at any LaRusso-Silver gathering. It's like bringing up the orangutan on a Poe symposium, we. do not talk. About the Silver wedding! War would be back on within the hour.
And none of that changes anything about the fact that yes, they sacrificed Daniel. Fine, the Don tried to have Terry killed by using his Daniele's heat as bait but the man wouldn't fall for it. So they sacrificed their youngest pup to save the others. Because Terry was feral enough to start a war for the thrill of it. It wouldn't be the first time a single omega prevented mass killing. What is one life for many?
And Daniele would not have run. He understands the pain in Lucille's eyes when she looks upon pictures of her wiped out relatives. He doesn't want his siblings to die too, and they'd have to fight if he said no. Could he live with himself then? He thought he had a choice when he tried to stay together with Kumiko. He thought his Pop would keep his earlier promises. He thought he'd leave the mob behind, and now... but a boy who'd run into a raging typhoon would also take on Terry Silver, because it's wrong and he won't have it 😡😡😡 and anything is better than seeing his situation for what it is. Could have gotten him hurt but he is scared and heartbroken and BIG MAD 😭😖 and he wants a cuddle. Also he's had a few drinks and what of it? 😾 At least he doesn't feel alone like this, and the guy smells good and he wants to go home, why can't he just go home...?

You ever consider how Dick Grayson and Dan Phantom are similar?
Like. Dick watched his parents die. He got taken away from his remaining family and placed in an unfamiliar city under questionable guardianship (juvie) where his focus was fully on finding his parents' murderer and getting justice for them until Bruce/Batman came along and mentored him into a better (if not always the healthiest) mindset. Setting him up to be a Hero.
While Danny. He watched his family, his friends, and the only teacher who kinda maybe cared for him die. He was placed under the questionable guardianship of Vlad. Who had no idea how to help a grieving boy. And instead...made things worse. Trying to separate the human from the ghost and setting Dan up to become the villain when Plasimus overtakes Phantom and turns him evil.
So like.
Why not have Danny meet Dick. Why not have Dick become the mentor that Danny desperately needs. The one who shows him that he can dig himself out of his grief. He can channel his anger. He can continue to help people despite failing the ones he cares about most.
After all Dick has been through a similar thing himself. He understands. He knows the feelings. Knows how the pain, how the anger never really fully goes away about what was taken from him. Knows how hard it is to accept that one can have a new family without forgoing your first family.
Or.
What if Dick comes across Dan after the fact. Whether it's by accidentally getting into the ghost zone and encountering the thermos holding him. Or Dan getting loose in his universe. Or maybe the obsesrvants attempting to put Dan on trial for all his Crimes.
But all Dick can see when he looks at this ghost is the 14 year old boy crying out for help. A mimicry of Dick's own 9 year old self. Crying out. For help.
So Dick steps forward. Points out the flaws. Points out all the ways that the Observants, that Amity Park, failed Dan.
You don't save a person by leaving them alone to figure it out by themselves after all. You save them by being there for them.
And the Observants....Observed. They did NOTHING. Of course Dan went down a dark path. He had no one else to show him otherwise.
Perhaps Clockwork gets invovled. Perhaps the Observants don't believe that Dan can be good and offer to let Dick 'test' his claims with the expectation that Dan will prove them right and Dick wrong in being 100% evil.
But Dick. Dick knows. Heroes can fall. Heroes can become Villains. But Villains can also become Heroes. And he's not going to give up on Dan. Not when he knows just how it feels to fall. Not when he knows just how much help it is to have someone in your corner.
He's not going to give up on Dan.
And Dick isn't going to let Dan give up on himself either.

Gosh, I had really strange and really dark McDanno dream tonight. I don't remember all, just some moments somewhere in season 2-3 era.
In the first part there was one of their cases and Steve almost died. He was ready to die, it was sacrifice/no big chances kind of action. In the last moment Danny saved him and when Steve came back from hospital Danny was damn furious. He shouted that Steve was stupid and that nobody wanted Steve to be dead. Danny's words were like bullets. "Don't dare to do this again". "We love you, you shmuck". "You're not fucking lonely Rambo anymore!". "Why the hell can't you see that? Why can't you see we will all be dead when you die, ha? I will be dead, Steven!". So it looked like Alex's old idea about Steve dying - but thanks goodness Danny was there.
In the second part (some time later) Danny and Steve argued again cause this time Danny was kidnapped and beaten by Wo Fat's people and Steve blamed himself. Steve was so shaken that he said that Danny and Grace deserved better and they had to stay away from Steve and his issues. For their own safety. Danny yelled that his family was Steve's family too (in this dream universe Steve and Ohana already met all Williamses/Russos) and that Steve needed to stop treating Williamses like fucking soft snowflakes who knew nothing about life and its darker side. Who knew nothing about love and loyalty.
In the third part some Navy guys (Steve knew them) including Mr Rollins came to ask Steve for a help. They needed him for some mission. By the way, Rollins treated Danny like "you may know Steven but you know nothing about our life in Navy, boy" and he generally treated Danny like a weak boy and weak cop. Plus he blamed Danny that he changed Steve too much (and it looked like he was bitter that Steve stopped dating his daughter). Steve didn't know about it all cause Rollins mocked Danny when nobody else was around and Danny stayed quiet. He only said that Rollins didn't like him and had no respect to cops and Steve was like "Don't worry, man. Soon he will like you! Remember how we two met in my garage? It wasn't easy either". So. Soon Steve was like "Okay, I'll help you" and the team wanted to help too but Danny was like "Hey, guys, there's something wrong, these guys...". But all were like "oh, Danny, please, you don't have to love Navy but don't see devils everywhere". And he said that it's not like that, that he loved Navy guys like Steve, Joe, Wade, Frank. He just felt that Mr Rollins and his guys were weird. He knew people, he knew something was wrong. Steve was like "You think that Rollins, oh I know you think he doesn't like you..." and he only wanted to ask Danny about his feelings, his instinct, he wanted to know something more about it but Danny... Oh, anxiety attack. He shouted at Steve "Oh, I knew it! I knew you wouldn't believe me cause it's your dearest Catherine's dad and...". "What?" Steve was shocked. But Danny was more and more hurt. "All your Navy friends, Cath... they'll always be fucking saints to you and even I can't change it. You're gonna be their forever, huh? You're gonna... You were right. I hate Navy ". Steve wanted to say something but Danny went away.
The fourth part was about Danny arguing with Steve and all team (about Rollins, about them all treating Danny like someone too soft for their world and so on - Danny really had enough and he didn't let them explain things, he was so pissed off that he took a break and went to Jersey to his "super soft super golden super naive family").
In the fifth part Steve and team (Danny was still in Jersey) went on their mission to help Mr Rollins and his guys. Part of the Navy guys was there and the other part "will be there where we're going" as Mr Rollins said. But it turned out that these Rollin's guys were really bad guys (Rollins wasn't aware of that, they just used him). I don't even remember what they wanted. I only remember that they planned something really big and they needed to kill all Five-0 and its friends. They treated Steve and his people with some gas and then broke Steve's and others' legs and chained them. Soon they took our guys and Mr Rollins somewhere far away from Hawaii, to some hidden base where those other bad guys were waiting (their faces were hidden under tactical soldier masks). "Good job" said one of the "masked bad guys" and gave all bad guys (I mean the group that came there with Steve and Five-0) water. "No one in Navy and HPD will find you", said one of Rollins' ex-friends. "They all think we're on mission, they'll all believe us when we come back and tell them about your tragic heroic death...". They chained our guys more and forced them to drink something. "Worse than arsenic, the pain is longer". They laughed and started drinking their water. "Cheers" - said one of the bad guys. And then they gagged our guys and said "We're gonna look at your pain but not gonna hear it". They said they're gonna burn them soon and that the bomb is hidden under floor, under Steve's legs, in a tunnel too narrow for Steve and his guys - just in case. The guys laughed more but then suddenly part of them started shaking and soon they were all paralyzed. Steve and the rest of the team were shocked and even more scared. But then these masked guys who still stood there and could move, took off their masks and geez, it was Danny. And Eddie. Clara. Stella. Bridget. Eric. And Bridget's husband. All Five-0 were in huuuuge shock and Clara wanted to explain all but then Danny looked at his friends, at Steve and he felt sudden rage. "They broke the legs, they... sons of a...". Danny started beating the paralyzed guys. Eric and Bridget's hubby started freeing Five-0. Bridget said to Five-0 that what they drunk was water and the real poison was now in enemies' stomachs. Stella said she would prepare their transport and she left with Bridget. Eddie said to bad guys "I know much about fire. And I know that it's not my family that will be burning". Clara then came closer to Steve and said "I lost one son. He didn't care about me. But there is another one. And I'm not gonna lose him. I'm not gonna lose you, Steven McGarrett!". "How..." - Steve tried to ask but then he started panicking. "The bomb!". "Don't worry. It's not our problem anymore" - said Eddie. Then Gracie came to the room. "The tunnel wasn't too narrow for me" - she said. "No, Gracie... Why? Danny! Danny, you can't..." - Stevie was in total shock. "She said she would do it" - said Eddie. - "She said she's your family too". Clara added: "Danny had no choice. He told her what to do, she did it". "What the hell..." - Chin tried to understand. - "How?". Then Clara started to explain that Eric called Danny cause he found out something about evil guys' plan. And when they found out bad guys took Five-0 Danny found the second group and killed them all. And then Danny wanted to call other cops but then they all felt it. They felt the rage. They felt they had to avenge their family. They had to help. And they made a plan. "It was stupid! It was dangerous!!! You shouldn't be here!" - Steven cried. - "Why?! Why you?!". Then Danny came to him and looked into his eyes: "Cause we're Ohana, one for all, all for one, you idiot". Then Danny kissed him and added: "Never ever say you have to leave us. By the way, we will find you and then you...". "I'm sorry, Robocop. I'm sorry...". "Don't be sorry" - said Eddie. - "Thanks to you we got our Danny back". "What you mean?" - Steve asked.
And then my dream ended and I have no idea what was that 👀 - a real plot in my dream world or maybe it was all just Steve's dream and when he woke up he understood some things? 😵💫

Danny Phantom Randomness (Heartbeat)
Not sure if this has been done before but if not, I have an idea. So I was thinking about how Danny’s human half didn’t survive when Dan was created from his ghost half and Vlad’s combining and thought of this really sad but meaningful moment where Clockwork brought his ghost to the past to let him say goodbye to the friends and family he lost to help his spirit pass on so there wouldn’t be two Danny’s in the same timeline. After all, the existence of half-ghosts themselves is already a paradox but it’s hard to say what’ll happen to Vlad and Danny once they actually DO die. That is, if they even can (plus immortal au’s are fun like that.)
Anyways, the idea here is that after Danny’s ghost manages to say goodbye to his parents, sister, Sam and Tucker, he makes a last minute decision to visit Vlad one more time too even though they were still enemies in the past. Even if he can never say this to the Vlad from his timeline who watched Dan kill him, Danny wants to let Vlad know what happened wasn’t his fault and for better or worse he knows he was trying to help. So Danny shows up at Vlad’s, is met by the usual snarky comments like “finally come to your senses to join me hmm Daniel?” or something to that effect but instead he just hugs Vlad, wishing he could change the future so neither of them had to lose someone important to them in such a horrific way, but knowing he can’t.
Vlad of course suspects something like a Specter Deflector being attached to him like last time so he’s just about to push Danny away when he notices something that makes his blood run cold. Danny...he doesn’t have a heartbeat! Alarmed now Vlad asks Danny if something happened and Danny, who has begun glowing with a warm golden light, smiles sadly and says:
“I wish we had more time but before I leave I just wanted to let you know it wasn’t your fault. In the end, you tried to help without the usual strings attached and I’ll never forget that. So thanks, Vlad, for finally doing what you said you would. Being there for me when I needed it. And in the future, when your second chance finally comes, don’t hesitate to take it because we’ll be waiting for you on the other side...”
Then he vanishes, implying that Danny’s moved on and is reunited with his friends and family who thankfully didn’t become ghosts after the Nasty Burger explosion, and Clockwork resets time in order to make it seem like this conversation never happened. But deep down, Vlad remembers what Danny said to him subconsciously which is why, when a young Danny appears in the future asking for help he uses the Ghost Gauntlets to help him stop Dan from recreating the dark timeline by removing Clockworks time amulet.
What we don’t see is the old and frail Vlad sink into his chair not long after, just barely holding onto life which is fading fast but then he sees a familiar light and a hand reaching out of it towards him. And despite all the mistakes Vlad’s made in his life by saving Danny -and by extension the world- it’s enough to help him make peace with himself and join his Danny in heaven after holding on long enough to give a version of his little badger a second chance to avoid a fate worse than death. That said, I still wish canon Vlad had gotten some kind of redemption arc instead of becoming progressively worse as the show went on but that’s what fanfics are for!
Anyways, hope you enjoyed this little snippet even if it’s kinda jumbled up. Just wanted to get the idea down before I forget since the main point is seeing Danny go out of his way to comfort Vlad and let him know the death of his human self wasn’t his fault. Plus, it’s nice to imagine Future Vlad got to move on peacefully too after making up for his biggest mistake of accidentally creating Dan.

The way I see the Dan thing is that CW saw many timelines where Danny slowly slips into bad habbits by loosing his integrity, not talking to Jazz, drifting from his family and other stuff. But he's too Bound to Rules to interfere directly so he engeneers a sacrificial timeline that lets him steer things to the better by influencing Danny, Jazz and Lancer. So he meddles to make Dan something Danny would strongly want to avoid becoming but could still defeat.
^^^
It’s something that’s only really occurred to me kinda recently. But yeah, Clockwork is probably more involved with Dan existing than we see.
I’ve mentioned it in tags, but a theory I have is that Clockwork more or less created Dan so that the Danny we follow ends up being, well, more heroic! I’m not saying the events that would lead up to Dan’s existence wouldn’t happen without interference, but it makes more sense if they only got that escalated because there WAS time shenanigans.
It’s been a bit since I’ve seen TUE, so I might get some details wrong, but. In basics—Dan (Dark Danny, but for sake of ease we’re calling him Dan) exists because of the following factors: he cheats on a Very Importanf Test; Lancer organizes a meeting with Maddie and Jack at, of all places, the Nasty Burger; Jazz, Sam, and Tucker are also there, I think to defend him?; there’s an explosion caused by sauce vat getting too hot; they literally all die, deader than Danny; Danny goes into Vlad’s custody; Danny convinces Vlad to take out his emotions or kill them down by taking out his ghost half (which is my best interpretation of how exactly they thought it would works-fun fact, this is probably why there’s so many theories and headcanons about ghosts feeling things more strongly in fanon, cause I honestly don’t know what else they expected would happen if they WEREN’T aiming to separate his ghost half); the ghost, now called Dan, kills off the human half, takes out VLAD’S ghost half, and absorbs it, not necessarily in that exact order but yeah; Dan devastates the world in a little under ten years.
Now, cheating on the CAT? Requires the answer sheet that Danny only gets because he’s fighting one of the villains Clockwork sent back. It could’ve happened anyways—but it didn’t. We don’t see how else he could have gotten them. We also don’t see how else that explosive vat gets that close to a heat source.
I don’t know WHY Lancer would choose a fast food chain restaurant. Maybe it’s because he wants to help and see if he can get Danny a retest, or help, or what have you, rather than, idk, expelled, and so meeting officially at school wouldn’t work. Point is, he chooses there. If I recall, I think that bit of exposition came from Vlad? Who wasn’t even THERE. And Danny? He’s used to lying. We can’t actually say if that’s the full truth. I’m not sure why Vlad wouldn’t be told the truth, later, even if Danny gave a different story to the police—or it’s close enough that Danny wouldn’t feel like bothering.
Keep in mind, all those major parts? Danny getting the answers, the meeting, the explosion? All happen. The only reason they don’t die is because Clockwork saves them.
An interesting thing is that Dan takes Danny’s place to ensure he cheats, to ensure this happens.
Which… why? Even if Danny now knows, thanks to inexplicably alive Vlad in the future, why is Dan so persistent that it HAS to go like this? To ensure he exists?
I think it’s cause THAT’S what happened the first time. Dan does what he does, knows who Clockwork is, recognizes the time medallions, because this is LITERALLY what happens. Dan believes he’s inevitable, that he’s in a stable time loop, because Clockwork was interfering the FIRST time. It’s possible that Dan, back when he was Danny, knew he became a villain. And maybe, in some timelines, he becomes a tragic hero. There’s a whole bunch of fanfic where this happens. Particularly crossovers. But in Dan’s, he decides to stop fighting it. Fighting it caused the mess, right? Might as WELL embrace it.
So he convinces Vlad, doesn’t tell him the whole truth, gets separated into parts, kills his human half, absorbs Vlad’s ghost half, and leaves Vlad alone. Because he knows that he meets Vlad in the future. And so he needs to be left alone, so that the loop continues. He knows he needs to develop that ability to warp into other versions of himself, so he does it. He knows he gets a ghostly wail—possibly already developed it, but lost it when he first got separated into a full ghost—eventually, so he’ll be patient. He knows he’ll get a round two, and better yet, he’s seen the script. He knows what to say, what to do, and knows what Danny is going to say and going to do.
And it all goes… pretty much according to plan. Even Danny getting the wail early can be brushed aside or accounted for—Dan might’ve forgotten, between all the murders and destruction, lost some ability when he lost his human half. Maybe it’s just a slight variation, but everything else is still happening.
The major difference? For Danny, Clockwork saved everyone.
For Dan, he didn’t.
It’s a story about timelines. We’ve seen alternate timelines, things effected by time travel, how even if it’s sucks there IS a way things are supposed to go. It’s entirely possible that Dan IS from a stable time loop. He might even have his OWN version of a Dan stuck in a thermos that Clockwork takes.
This explains Dan’s motives, more or less. These qualities, of being sure he’s a villain because he’s seen it, would also make him good at being a sort of… time enforcer? Danny did a couple of time travel stints, but didn’t seem to care much for it. Dan would understand necessary things might be unpleasant for a stable future.
But why would Clockwork even BOTHER? Because in Dan’s timeline, the timeline I propose above, then Clockwork is the whole REASON this happens. Heck, Dan might even be trying to destroy Earth, cause that would destroy the Ghost Zone, which would probably destroy Clockwork.
Simply put? Basically, your idea above, anon. Danny is a heroic character, but as much as fanon likes to push aside some of his… less desirable traits, some of which CAN be attributed to canon bad/weird writing as well as the time in came out at, Danny does have faults. He has flaws. And those can be pushed. Danny hears constantly that he was a villain, especially at the start. His grades suffer, his goals suffer, his relationships with EVERYONE suffer. That has to take a toll. There’s probably quite a few timelines where he turns bad all on his own. There’s probably even more where something or someone does take him out. There’s some where him never facing himself caused him to not develop more heroic qualities or abilities or something. Despite everything, he’s an optimist of sorts. It might not be perfect, but if he tries, it’ll work out for him, something that’s kinda developed and proven because he’s a protagonist in a kid’s cartoon. A true loss would effect him greatly.
Dan is the epitome of all the ways Danny’s stress would elevate any loss that shattered his optimist that he ended up with.
Danny is the epitome of having to LITERALLY face the worst version of yourself, and somehow both lose AND still win. He’s a hero who literally defeated himself at his worst and most powerful.
And that, THAT is the kind of hero Clockwork wants…. For whatever reason Clockwork wants a hero like that. We don’t even know if this is their ‘prime’ timeline. It’s just the one we see. This could very well be the ONLY timeline where Danny stays a full hero character. We do not know.
TLDR; I like Clockwork, but he’s a little sus and probably engineered Dan’s entire existence to the point that DAN HIMSELF is compliant in his own ruining of his younger self, and there’s now at least a split timeline between Timeline Where Clockwork Saved Danny’s Support Network and the timeline where he DIDN’T.
#danny phantom#ask me anything#I probably got a theory breaking detail wrong due to not wanting to rewatch the episode#so feel free to tear me to shreds#I can stitch it back together if I did lol#the ultimate enemy#clockwork#dan phantom

because I could not stop for death
because I could not stop for death / he kindly stopped for me / the carriage held but just ourselves / and immortality ~ Emily Dickinson
Danny Fenton was dying, properly this time.
Somehow, in the back of his head and in his worst nightmares, he knew it would end this way: bleeding on the floor of his parents’ lab where it had all began. He was so hot he felt like his skin was on fire, blood and ectoplasm were dripping all over him and his lungs and heart were working overtime to try in vain to keep him alive a moment longer. He’d imagined at the time that there would be more screaming but death, in the end, was turning out to be a quiet little affair. A lonely table set for one.
“Danny, Danny come on, you-you gotta slow down your breathing, just relax, for me, please,” Sam moaned, more than making up for his lack of noise. She was shaking and touching him all over, his chest, his face, his hair. Normally she jumped right into action but she had to know, deep down, that there was nothing she could do. All that was left was to watch her panic and cry, it wasn’t his favorite image.
“Vlad!” He heard Tucker scream cry into the phone, “please it’s Tucker, Danny’s dying I think. The Fentons had some new invention, something about his core, please we don’t know what to do!”
Ugh Vlad, he was probably going to be so happy Danny was on his way out. He wasn’t looking much forward to his last images being his archenemy gloating. Tucker hung up and reached down to grasp Danny’s hand so hard it hurt. “Don’t worry dude, Vlad’s coming. He knows so much about you half ghosts that you’ll be fixed up on no time.” Right, Danny was already dead. If calling Vlad, feeling like he did something, helped Tucker move on then he’d deal with it.
Danny tilted his head to the side where Sam’s fingernails were carding through his hair. It was getting harder to see with the blood pouring out of his eyes but he looked at her, and tried to memorize her face. He’d never been able to tell her how much he loved her, that any day spent with her was a blessing. Tucker too, his best bro and a part of his soul. His best friends in the whole wide world, through thick and thin. God, he was going to miss them.
“Glurk,” he said, trying to convey those feeling but the fluids in his mouth and airway made it impossible. “Blerh.”
“Shh shh shh,” Sam soothed, “it’s okay, don’t try to talk.”
“Daniel!” He heard Vlad’s voice shriek as he materialized in front of the portal. Sam and Tucker were violently pushed out the way. Danny wanted to be angry at his loved ones being taken away in his final moments but anger was for the living, he barely had the energy to breathe. This death was too long and too short all at once. He made eye contact with Vlad who all at once lost the frantic edge to his tone and and instead knelt on the floor. “Oh my dear boy. What did they do to you?”
“What is going on?” Sam demanded, shoving her way back in. Danny was glad, he could see again like this. “Why aren’t you doing something!”
“There’s nothing to be done,” Vlad said in a flat, monotone, he picked up one of Danny’s hands and patted it gently. “His core is dying, it’s like a ghost’s heart. It contains their very essence, it is from which everything they are comes from. If Jack and Maddie somehow disrupted it then there’s nothing anyone can do to save him.”
“But he’s human too,” Tucker defended, grabbing Danny’s other hand. His human warm skin burned but the contact felt so good, he twitched his fingers closer to his friend’s. “He-he doesn’t need a core, he’s already got a heart. So, so he doesn’t have powers, we can do normal again.”
“You-” Vlad hissed before taking a calming breath. “The accident that made Daniel like this irreparably altered him. His core was as much a part of keeping him alive as his other organs, without it, his body is shutting down.” Vlad turned down to look Danny in the eye and saw true, genuine grief in those hateful red eyes.
“I cannot imagine the agony you are going through, I’m so sorry. I’d say it will be over soon but,” a hitch that sounded almost like a sob if it was coming from anyone other than Vlad. “But you’ve hovered on the edge of death for years, son, and you’ve always been such a fighter. You have minutes at most but those minutes are an eternity when you’re suffering.”
Sam and Tucker’s sobbing blended together in the background, Vlad was saying something with a miserable, stunned expression. The swirling of the portal in the background seemed louder than anything, louder than his heart beat pounding and pounding as it ran it’s last race.
“Daniel, Danny,” he focused his eyes back on Vlad who had a stubborn, unhappy set to his brow. “Do you want me to make the pain stop? An ectoblast to your chest will end your life instantly.”
“Don’t you dare touch him,” Sam shrieked, coming back into view and looking like she was trying to fight Vlad off. “You do anything to him and I’ll kill you!” Tucker just sat and stared at him, like he too was trying memorize Danny’s face.
“It’s a mercy, Samantha or do you want his last moments on earth to be drowning on the blood in his lungs.”
“Sam, he has a point. I don’t- I don’t think we can fix this.”
“No! No we always fix things, I’ll do it myself if I have to!”
Danny’s vision was starting to go, more black than anything else. He closed his eyes and readied himself for the inevitable.
“Time Out,” Danny opened his eyes and found he was no longer in pain. He was standing up and apart from where he’d previously been lying. Sam had her hands in Vlad’s face and the older hybrid was snarling something at her. Tucker was midmotion trying to stand up, presumably to get Sam but the three of them were frozen in the moment. Danny turned and found Clockwork floating, looking very out of place in his parents lab. “Good evening, Danny.”
“You that short on cash that you work part time as a grim reaper?” Danny quipped out of habit. He looked down at his body and grimaced a bit, that wasn’t a pretty sight. No doubt traumatizing for Tucker and Sam. God how were they going to explain this to his parents? “Gonna ferry me across the River Styx? I don’t have two pennies but I think I have a bloodied $10 on me.”
“You’re core is dying and you have 17 seconds left in this world before all your organs give out and finish the process you began when you turned on your parent’s ghost portal,” Clockwork explained as he changed into child form.
“O-okay,” Danny said shakily, trying to be brave even when he was so, so scared. He was going out whether he wanted it or not but he refused to leave crying. “Nice of you to come say goodbye then but, uh but unless you have something to say then you should let me go back. No one knows better than me that you can’t outrun death. Thanks but I’m uh I’m ready.”
Clockwork stared at him for a bit, not sure how long, time was weird like this but he changed forms a few times. “You’re quite the remarkable young man, Danny Fenton.”
“Uh thanks,” Danny added, once more looking at his body which had, according to Clockwork, a 17 second expiration date. “What’s going to happen? Am I going to become a ghost? Does heaven or hell exist for someone like me?”
“I don’t get to decide what happens, I merely see options,” Clockwork stated easily, taking his time. “If you die naturally you’ll become ghost, a mere shadow of who you are now and one who would fade fairly quickly. You don’t have strong enough anger or regrets to tie you in the real world for long.” Not great but okay he supposed, hell for his friends and family though. “You could let Plasmius deliver his mercy kill, destroying what’s left of your ghost core and ensuring you do not come back.” Better, probably won’t help the Fruitloop’s instability but he can’t save everyone.
“That one comes with it’s own caveat but I’ll get to that in a moment,” Clockwork explained. “There is a third option where you get up off the floor and walk away.” Danny blinked then looked back at his body which certainly wasn’t walking anywhere but into a plush casket. Clockwork opened his hands and the Ghost King’s Crown materialized in his hands. “If you accept your claim to the King’s Cown, it will revitalize your core and your life would be saved.”
Danny blinked.
“By sealing Pariah Dark, you won by proxy and established a legitimate claim to the throne. The Zone has been without a king for millennia, most have forgotten the old rules. Those who remembered were not too keen on a half-ghost child assuming leadership and kept you in the dark. If Plasmius ends your life then your claim transfers over to him, which he is aware of. It had been his plan all along to trick you into defeating Pariah so he could steal the Crown from you at a later date, a much easier opponent.”
Danny’s mind was overloaded with information, he didn’t know what to focus on first. He stared at his 17 seconds from death face and tried to process it all. Crown? Claim? Vlad?
“Of course,” Clockwork tutted, “he didn’t plan on your dying and in such a gruesome fashion. If he kills you and takes your claim, he would spend his remaining years ruling the Ghost Zone in a just, controlled fashion for your memory. He destroys all the stable portals and keeps the ghost and human worlds separate.” Clockwork became and old man and titled his head, “it’s not a bad timeline, all things considered.”
“And if I take it?” Danny asked quietly.
“You’re compassionate, brave and motivated, you have all the makings of a revolutionary king,” Clockwork smiled. “The Zone would experience and unprecedented era of peace, there would be positive interactions between human and ghosts for the first time since life and death split into two. Your name would spoken with reverence for the rest of time.”
“But I don’t want to be king,” Danny frowned.
“I know, I’m sorry,” Clockwork stated. “Which is why I am giving you the choice. If you pass peacefully there will be no one to claim the Crown and life will continue on, ghost attacks and all. If Plasmius kills you, he becomes an effective but unmemorable king. If you take the Crown, you can get the chance to tell Sam and Tucker how much you love them.”
Danny rubbed at his face, he didn’t want to die but he’d be sealing away his entire future with a move like this. He didn’t even know if the Crown would let him go with death, maybe he’d die and be stuck as the Ghost King until his core finally gave out lord in who knows how long. Eternity was an awful long time to carry such a responsibility. He couldn’t bring himself to ask, too afraid of the answer.
“Is there ever a timeline I became an astronaut?” He asked instead. Clockwork hummed, seemingly unsurprised by Danny’s non-sequitur.
“Yes, in one of the few universes where you never walked into the portal. You never go into space what with human politics putting a halt on the programs but you work for NASA. You leave Amity Park at 17 and don’t come back save for your parents’ dual funeral.” He paused and Danny felt read down to his very bones, “from the moment you became half ghost you were always heading for this moment. The circumstances varied but it always came down to you and the Crown. Time is straining to continue, to see how this drama plays out. Will you accept it and all the joy and grief that comes with it?”
Danny looked over at Vlad, still mid-sneer but there was a scared desperation in his face. He and Vlad sniped at each other all the time but Danny didn’t really hate him and he didn’t think Vlad did either. Leaving him alone, plus making him be king was a heavy burden to put on his enemy.
Sam and Tuck probably wouldn’t recover from this, he’d put them through so much already but he just knew that they’d never be the same. Could he do that to them? Take the easy way out and leave them to suffer? Mom and Dad didn’t deserve to come home to a dead son, the truth would come out and they’d never forgive themselves. Jazz certainly wouldn’t, she was 2 states over at University but he could already hear her angry, grief-stricken screams.
Death, death was quiet. It was quiet and merciful and sad, but it was also easy. And Danny Fenton had never once taken the easy route. He reached out and took and the crown before shakily placing it on his head. He gasped, throwing his head back as his core swelled, taking up residence once more right next to his heart. Clockwork smiled, looking like the cat who ate the canary.
“The Crown of Fire, pardon me the Crown changes with each core, the Crown of Ice is now yours as is the Zone. Your reign begins now but so too does the rest of your life. People are waiting for you. Time in.” Danny slammed back into awareness on the floor of his parents’ lab, the floor he’d almost died on twice.
He sat up as cold radiated off his body, causing frost to crawl down his arms and along the floor. Sam, Tucker and Vlad, who’d been frozen up until now, jumped back to life. There was a new, familiar weight on his head that he didn’t dare acknowledge.
He squeezed his eyes shut and said a silent goodbye to a quiet, normal life. It wouldn’t be all bad, he could be happy like this but the Crown still felt like a iron manacle around his neck. But he got used to the ghost powers, he could get used to this too. Maybe one day he won’t look at the stars and say ‘what if?’
“Danny!” Sam shouted, throwing herself into his arms soon followed by Tucker. Their warm weight, their relieved sobs, their shaky breaths in his air, now this was something worth living for. He squeezed them tightly.
“But how dude, you were at death’s door!” Tucker asked, still not letting go.
“You accepted the Crown,” Vlad said evenly, “I wasn’t aware you even knew about your claim. Who told you?”
“You don’t know everything, Vlad,” Danny sighed, sitting himself upright. Ugh his shirt was covered in blood and ectoplasm. He needed to trash these clothes before his parents freaked. And find a way to hide the floating ice crown on his head.
“Even an old man can be surprised every now and again,” Vlad said wearily. He stood up to his full height before startling Danny by dipping down to one knee. “Then allow me to be the first to welcome my new king and wish him well.”
“I thought you wanted this,” Danny questioned.
“I do, I did,” Vlad said, unusually off balance. “To be quite honest, I’m not sure how to feel about it but, right now, I’m just immeasurably happy you’re alive, little badger. Now I best be off, enjoy your kingdom, my liege, I’ll be sure to come bother you some time soon.” Vlad disappeared in a swirl of pink leaving just him, Sam and Tucker still clinging to him.
Danny may have a kingdom, a job he didn’t want and his whole life decided in a spur of the moment choice, but he also had something very important. He squeezed his friends tightly.
“I love you guys, thank you for being my friends even though I have the worst ideas for activities. Dying? On a Sunday night? How lame is that?” Sam laughed, a bit hysterical but it was real and it made Danny feel weightless.
“Don’t do that again, buddy,” Tucker breathed into his shoulder. “So you gonna explain what just happened and why you’re apparently the Ghost King or something?”
“Yeah, yeah I will but let’s get changed first. Mom and Dad will be home soon and I think I’m going to need to have a conversation with them about my new job.”

Trailing Along the Dark
Day Twenty-Seven: Insect

<- Previous Next -> No warnings this chapter! Reblogs appreciated!
Lately Danny noticed his ectoblasts weren’t as strong as usual. Or his ghost sense. In fact it felt like everything was off on his ghost half. Sam and Tucker weren’t around to help him on the patrol tonight as they prevented him from getting into trouble, but the same couldn’t be said for them. While he was free to fight any ghosts, they were grounded.
“The sooner I figure my powers out, the better,” He said to himself as he walked around the streets as Danny Fenton, not wanting to attract attention as-
The sound of a motorcycle revving up echoed in the alleyway. Danny turned around to spot a guy who looked around the age of a high school senior driving the vehicle.
“Oh hey Shadow, it’s Inviso-Bill,” Johnny said, his ghostly companion chirring in agreement. “Where’s your friends? I didn't take them for the kind to ditch you.”
“First off, it’s Danny Phantom, not Inviso-Bill. And second, it’s none of your business, Johnny,” He said, giving a scowl.
“Ouch, rude. You’re not still mad about the thing with your sister, are you?”
Danny turned into his ghost form, relieved that they were somewhere away from the streets where someone could see him transform.
“Shit, you still are,” Johnny said, his eyes widening in alarm before he began driving away as fast as possible. Danny jumped into the air and flew right after him, his legs disappearing into a ghostly tail.
The motorcycle went down an empty boulevard. “Look, I said I’m sorry alright,” the older ghost teen tried to apologize.
“Yeah right, you’re sorry for trying to get your girlfriend to possess my sister,” Danny replied, aiming an ectoblast at one of his tires.
Shadow appeared to cover the vehicle, absorbing the blast.
“It was the only way to get Kitty out of the in between, I didn’t want to actually date your sister,” Johnny continued.
“I bet that’s a lie.” Another blast fired, Shadow once again taking the hit. This time they gave Danny a look, as if it wasn’t as powerful as the previous one.
“I swear to the Ancients it wasn’t a lie. If I didn’t get Kitty out, she would’ve faded away, forever,” Johnny replied, his voice tinged with pain. “I couldn’t let that happen. I didn’t like fake dating, it felt wrong. But since she was your sister, that means she could walk down to open the portal like the rest of your family.”
“Well you could’ve just asked-”
“The kid whose parents are ghost hunters? With a lab full of ways to, capture, torture and or damage me permenantly? Do you have any idea what they could do to Kitty, or even you? I’m surprised you’re still living under the same roof as them, you could get caught in your own house.”
“That’s not true,” Danny replied, firing another shot. Shadow appeared again, the ectoblast a bit further away from the motorcycle.
“Wait, you’re serious? Let me run that by you again, you’re a half ghost who’s living with ghost hunters. You’d have easier luck trying to live in the Ghost Zone than risking your neck saving people every day of the week from ghosts.”
“At least they don't full on hate me like you do!”
“Wait what?!” Johnny called out, tires screeching as he turned down another street, narrowly missing a car. “Where did you get that idea?”
“I don’t know, maybe because you keep calling me Inviso-Bill?” Danny replied accusingly.
“Wait, that's not your name? Sorry, I didn’t know, kid!”
“Why do you care?!” Danny shouted, aiming his palms to fire more blasts but none appeared. Something inside him gave a sharp twitch of pain. A wave of exhaustion overcame him, and he found himself drifting to the ground.
“Shadow, catch!” He heard Johnny yell, his tires screeching to a halt. His vision grew dizzy before it all went dark.
“...C’mon, kid wake up,” Danny heard faintly. “Fuck, you didn’t hurt him right?” Shadow grunted in response. “Ancients, kid, don’t die on me for real.”
His eyes opened up to see Johnny frantically attempting to shake him awake.
“You’re awake, oh fuck, you’re awake. I didn’t see what happened, had to keep my eyes on the road. No one hurt you or anything, right?”
Danny pulled his arm away before sitting up. “No.”
He didn’t hear Johnny answer back, a reluctant sigh exiting his mouth. The older teen ghost sat down a few feet away, Shadow giving an uneasy rumble as the silence entered the alleyway.
‘Bet he’ll just walk away like every other ghost has done until now,’ He thought bitterly, his arms holding his legs. ‘I mean really, it’s not like he cares.’
“... I really didn’t hate you when we first met,” Johnny softly said.
Danny didn’t answer, staring instead at his reflection in a puddle.
“I think I was mostly scared cause I couldn’t figure out whose side you were on: your parents, or something else. I didn’t want to take that risk, I-I couldn’t. Kitty needed me, and i-if I failed… I’d never forgive myself.”
“But when I saw you putting me and Kitty out into the Ghost Zone, I realized you weren’t them. You spared us when you had every right to capture us and let your parents do whatever the hell they could. You’re something else. Literally, I mean you’re a halfa for ancient’s sake-”
“I hate that word!” Danny spat out. “It just makes me feel worse about what I’ve gotten myself into. I’m already a social outcast in my school, I don’t need to know that I’m also an outcast species wise. Do you have any idea how hard it is to control my ghost powers? To not hate that side of myself? I just want answers as to why am I like this, what am I, why didn't I die?”
His chest felt heavy as he gazed at the other. Johnny’s eyes were watery and wide open in fear, and Shadow had quietly ducked under his jacket.
“I’m.. I’m only fourteen…” He quietly said. “How fucked up is that…”
Johnny swallowed a lump in his throat. “Danny, I know it's not the same, but do you know how long it’s taken me to accept that I’m a ghost? Decades. Every day I wish I knew why I died, or could go back to being alive…”
“I’ll never get that answer, and neither will you get answers to yours, but listen. I’d give anything to be even half alive. For whatever reason, fate decided you couldn’t die just yet. Your story deserves to continue, and that means whatever you’re going to become does matter. You matter a lot, Danny, to everyone you’ve been protecting, to your friends, your family. Maybe someday, you’ll matter to ghosts too.”
Danny couldn’t help but give an empty laugh. “You’re kidding, right? You said it yourself, who’d want to ask the kid with ghost hunting parents for help?”
Tears started to fall from his eyes, and he held his face in his hands. “I feel like I’m the world’s worst case of irony,” He muttered, trying to fight back crying in front of them. “A ghost living with ghost hunters… only Sam and Tucker know, and it’s probably going to stay that way…”
Another pulse of pain came up his body. Danny clenched his chest. “Fuck, again?”
“Again?” Johnny repeated. “You mean that happened when you fell out of the sky?” The white haired teen didn’t answer as he closed his eyes and gritted his teeth from a smaller yet still painful pulse. A growl escaping his throat.
“Okay, just stay with me kid. I think I know what you need.” He paused. Danny heard his jacket rustle, and a small concerned chirr from Shadow.
“Here, eat this.”
Danny cracked open one eye to see Johnny holding out some glowing green leaves and a few crawling isopods.
“... You want me to eat ghost weed?”
“It’s not weed, just trust me,” the older ghost teen insisted.
Danny hesitated, but after another pulse, he grabbed it all and ate it. Surprisingly, ghost isopods tasted just like regular ones, and the leaves tasted like kale. The pain that was in his chest began to fade.
“What… what that stuff?” Danny asked.
“Just ectoplasm,” Johnny answered. “Most of the time ghosts are okay with absorbing ambient ectoplasm, but sometimes we need to eat it directly from something that’s in the Ghost Zone. So, think edible plants and insects.”
“Insects?”
“Yeah. It’s gross, not gonna lie,” Johnny added with a grimace, “but it keeps us stable. I still can remember how freaked out Kitty was when we first got told that by our zonekeepers.”
Danny’s green eyes faintly glowed. “Zonekeepers?”
“..You haven’t heard that word before?”
“No.”
“Yeah, so a zonekeeper is a term used for the ghost who greets a new one in the Ghost Zone. They’re typically the first one that greets them, and it's custom for them to help out with figuring out the basics on being a ghost, getting used to defending themselves, and learning anything else.”
“Oh...” Danny muttered, glancing away. “I… I doubt any ghost would do anything like that for me.”
“... I would.”
The teen glanced at Johnny with uncertainty. He stared right back, a small warm smile on his face, without a sign of hesitance. Shadow finally poked out and slipped under Johnny’s hand.
“You look like you need at least one ghost on your side,” He continued, petting the shade who purred contently.
For the first time Danny felt safe with being near another ghost.
It took a few minutes to drive back to Danny’s home. He would’ve flown, but Johnny insisted he needed to rest and offered him a ride. Shadow temporarily turned into a helmet for the teen’s safety.
“This is as far as I can take you,” Johnny said as he halted the vehicle a block away from Fentonworks. “No offense, but I don’t want your parents to try and shoot me.”
“It’s fine,” Danny replied, Shadow floating away from his head. He took a few steps away but then paused.
“... Thanks… for helping me,” He muttered.
“Just take it easy kid,” Johnny answered. “I’ll see if I can bring back some ghost plants and maybe a guide on what you can eat in the Ghost Zone.”
“... Can you bring ghost insects too?”
The older teen’s face froze briefly before he nervously chuckled. “You liked those?”
“Yeah, I used to eat bugs when I was little.”
Johnny laughed, and Danny found himself laughing too. “Alright, see you later,” He said, giving a handwave. Shadow gave an odd but friendly grin as both took off into the night.
The teen watched until the motorcycle disappeared from sight before sighing. He was tired, but there was some comfort in knowing that there was one more friend willing to help him out.

Psycho Analysis is a series that looks at villains across various media in the hopes of coming to something of a consensus on the overall quality of the character. Are they performed well? Do they enrich the narrative? Are their motives fleshed out? Are they voiced by Tim Curry and thus a sex icon?
There are a lot of important questions that I look into, but ultimately, Psycho Analysis boils down to asking one simple little question: How bad can a character be?
Thankfully, there’s one villain who decided to answer that question for me... in song form.
Psycho Analysis: The Once-ler
(WARNING! This analysis contains SPOILERS!)
Yeah, I’m finally talking about everyone’s favorite greedy bastard who, back in some of the darkest days of Tumblr history, ended up being the premier sexyman on the website. People were thirsting over this twiggy weirdo, acting as if he were God’s gift to women and shipping him with alternate versions of himself. Much like the movie he’s from, he is now incredibly hard to take seriously.
But hey, speaking of alternate versions of himself, I’m going to be covering him from the original book and the animated short film as well. Might as well just knock it all out of the park at once, right? Now let’s see how ba-a-a-ad this guy can be.
Motivation/Goals: The Once-ler is all about biggering. He’s making thneeds (things that everyone needs) and he is gonna stop at nothing to craft these things. Not even the power of the Lorax, Danny DeVito or otherwise, is going to stay his hand from getting that sweet, soft Truffula fluff to make his wares. This is ultimately a little unrealistic, at least for the Illumination version; if Danny DeVito asked me not to do something, I’d listen, no questions asked.
Performance: In the animated special, Bob Holt does double duty, as he is portraying both Once-ler and the title character. It works really well for what they’re going for, and the double casting is interesting because it highlights the ultimate role of the Lorax as the Once-ler’s conscience given form.
In the film, Ed Helms portrays the Once-ler, and he’s fine. He’s certainly better casting than Audrey, but that’s not particularly saying much considering that’s a non-singing Taylor Swift (when Cats is able to utilize Taylor Swift better than your musical, you know there’s trouble). I don’t know, Ed Helms is fun and all, but I’m just not sure his take on the Once-ler is all too compelling overall.
Final Fate: In the original book and the special, the Once-ler wins… but even he realizes it’s a terrible, pointless victory, and all he has achieved is ruin, his family leaving him, his business ultimately collapsing, and the environment permanently damaged. He’s left as a miserable, jaded hermit, broken by the bleak consequences his greedy actions have sown upon the world and only able to tell his story and pass on the last Truffula seed in the hopes that maybe, maybe someday the trees can regrow and the Lorax will return. The Illumination version follows this but then tacks on a happy ending where the Lorax and Once-ler reunite because as we know ambiguity and bittersweet endings cannot exist in children’s films.
Best Scene: Obviously it’s the scene where he shakes his ass to seduce Jack Frost, in one of the greatest gay romances ever put to film.
Joking aside, it is undoubtedly his villain song. It has become such a meme, but real talk? “How Bad Can I Be” slaps. This is a really good song, probably too good for the movie but you know what, I’ll take it.
youtube
Best Quote: HOW BA-A-A-AD CAN I BE? Yes, I’m using a line from his villain song. Sue me.
Final Thoughts & Score: What can one really say about the movie version of the Once-ler that hasn’t already been run into the ground? Well, how about… He’s not too bad, honestly? Like, yes, he has next to nothing to do with his book counterpart and they really go way too far into trying to make a capitalist pig sympathetic… but the animated special from the 70s did that too. I think the Once-ler honestly works better when there is a dash of complexity to him and he isn’t just a simple-minded Captain Planet villain.
Of course, the issue here is that the 70s version took a simpler approach, kind of less is more. The 70s Once-ler brings up some valid points to the Lorax about his work, and the Lorax can’t help but agree that there’s no easy answer while also stressing that the environmental devastation is still really, really bad. It works, it feels complex, and it arguably helps the ultimate point that we need to protect the environment better than even the book did (and I love the book, don’t get me wrong, but its take on the Once-ler is a bit too simple for its own good; it almost runs into the Femme Fatale problem by being a bit too much of a strawman). The movie version has a bit too much going on, especially with his family. His family are much more blatantly evil, greedy, and manipulative, but they’re relegated to the background for much of the film and don’t effect things all that much. The whole narrative would have been infinitely stronger if they were the greater scope villains behind Once-ler and were who needed to be defeated and maybe taught a lesson, but instead they are ignored in favor of someone I’ll address very shortly.
All of this leaves movie Once-ler feeling extremely disjointed, but not irredeemably so. As I said before, his villain song is unironically awesome, and as lame as it is compared to the more haunting, contemplative ending of the book and the special, I’m not so much of a curmudgeon that I didn’t at least smile when he finally reconciled with the Lorax. Ultimately though, him being memed to death really didn’t help his case, but it means I’m not giving the movie version anything less than a 3/10. He might in fact be the best “so bad it’s good” villain ever, or at least up there. He’s just so undeniably enjoyable even if the narrative isn’t making him as complex as it thinks it is. The animated special version gets a 9/10, the book version is a 7/10, and the Once-ler’s family gets a 5/10 for being an interesting concept they sadly do little with, which will now be elaborated on as I follow up on the foreshadowing from the last paragraph...
Psycho Analysis: Aloysius O’Hare
Remember how I said the Once-ler’s family gets ignored in favor of someone else? Here he is, Aloysius O’Hare, one of the absolute lamest villains ever put to screen.
Motivation/Goals: He’s greedy. That’s it. I’m not kidding. He’s just a cartoonish caricature of a rich person, which still makes him a realistic portayal but also makes him boring as sin compared to the wacky dude with a big musical number about how bad he can be.
Performance: Rob Riggle does a decent job, but there’s really not much for him to work with here. This character is a cardboard cutout who exists to be as cartoonishly greedy and evil as possible with no nuance so the kids know who to root against and so that Once-ler doesn’t look bad in comparison.
Final Fate: Look, he’s a blatantly evil corporate villain in a kid’s movie about the environment. Of course he gets defeated and everyone turns on him. What’s especially funny though is that, on the brink of learning his lesson, he rejects any form of redemption and just goes whole hog on being a villain.
Best Scene: I will absolutely give him this: in the face of his ultimate defeat, after having the virtues of trees sung to him and the entire town turning on him, he for a moment contemplates turning over a new leaf… and then absolutely rejects the thought and instead decides being evil is just too much fun, at which point he tries to get everyone back on his side by seeing a funny little song about death while wavedashing. If more shitty villains did this, I don’t think there would be shitty villains.
Best Quote: LET IT DIE, LET IT DIE, LET IT SHRIVEL UP AND DIE! Yes I’m quoting a song again.
Final Thoughts & Score: Look, I’m not gonna mine words here: O’Hare sucks. Big time. He is a prime example of why The Lorax failed as an adaptation. In a story that is dealing with a moral grayness with no easy answers, O’Hare is just a big, blatant target, a dark shade of black in terms of black-and-white morality. He’s like a reject Captain Planet villain with Edna Mode’s haircut.
The movie would have been infinitely better if, instead of him, the Once-ler’s family were in control of the town, and they needed to learn the lesson about saving the trees instead of simply vanishing from the story. They were shown to be overbearing, manipulative, and greedy, and they had a much more personal connection with Once-ler being, you know, his actual family. The fact they abandon him and never really get any sort of comeuppance despite being perhaps the most evil people in the move, egging on Once-ler and taking full advantage of him, makes O’Hare all the more egregious, because there could have been some strong thematic elements that would have tied the film together and made it come off as much less preachy and more nuanced.
But we don’t live in a world where that happened, we live in a world where we got O’Hare. Aside from some genuine hilarity from him at the end, O’Hare really adds very little to the film. I gotta give him a 2/10, but I will say he’s a lot closer to a 3 than he is to a 1; there’s no denying his absolute rejection of learning a moral is absolutely hilarious. I love when villains do that. It’s just a shame those funny moments are wrapped up in something monumentally unimpressive.

Could u do a childhood friends hc with Trapper, The Shape and Ghostface?? 🥺🥺
Of course my friend! uwu
So we can imagine most of Michael‘s and Trapper‘s childhoods but I don’t think Danny has much of a background lore going as far soo I‘d personally also put him into a difficult household (even though I wish it were different) I also think I’ll put this one into a text form
TW: idek what to tag this with but I’m guessing abuse/domestic violence
The Trapper (Evan MacMillan)
Evan had always in a way idolized his father and his father had never deemed anyone worthy to get close to his son. Needless to say Evan didn’t have many friends at all when he was young. The other children were scared of his father and the stories their parents had told them about the MacMillan family. They were gruesome, as much as a parent would allow their child to hear but enough to ensure they would never want to get close to the MacMillan child.
You had always thought it was unfair. It wasn’t Evan’s fault that his dad was mean and you didn’t want him to sit alone over something he wasn’t responsible for. So you approached him and you kept approaching him even as he tried to push you away. He knew about the stories and he himself knew very well that his father wasn’t the kindest person. Time and time again had his father hit him for not following his orders, had thrown away his sketches and sent him to bed on an empty stomach as a punishment. He understood why others feared his father and he didn’t blame them. Even though he loved his father, he also despised him. He knew no one but him would endure his father’s punishments so when the tiny you approached him he tried his best to push you away. You were far too fragile, you couldn’t get close to him or his father.
But you didn’t care. No matter how many times he rudely sent you away you always returned. And as time passed he felt himself slowly growing fond of you. You were nice to him, the only person that made him feel warm and he didn’t want you to leave him anymore. He wanted to keep your kindness, to keep the warmth you made him feel through the utter coldness he was accustomed to. So he allowed you to stay if only for a while which soon became longer and longer.
You played together in elementary school and he would protect you from anyone that even attempted to bully you. Or ask you out for that matter. He soon had to realize that he grew more and more possessive of you, that he didn’t want anyone to take you away from him. You had been with him since the beginning, had shown him kindness and understanding, had been there for him and took care of the bruises his father kept giving him. As cheesy as this sounded you had been his sun all along, naturally and selflessly giving him warmth without ever being asked to. His one and only friend.
Shit I might need to turn this into a fiction maybe? haha we’ll see
The Shape (Michael Meyers)
Michael had always been the silent child in your kindergarten group. First everyone thought he was just a little shy but you soon realized that he simply refused to speak. Of course your teacher tried to convince him to talk, even had a meeting with his parents but they assured that he learned speaking, however at one point simply stopped any form of communication. To the adults he was a hopeless case. They tried desparately to change him, but he wouldn’t budge.
To you he was a welcome friend. You didn’t mind his silence, you knew he was listening to you and you could still play together. Well, it was mostly you telling him what to do with the toys, because he himself wouldn’t do anything besides holding them in his hand, but that wasn’t much of an issue to you.
Of course you tried to get him to play with your other friends too, but his lack of enthusiasm often got in the way and the other kids got scared of his silent and emotionless behavior. However, even when they told you to, you refused to stop playing with Michael. Yes, he was a little odd, but that didn’t make him a bad child (killing his sister later lowkey did tho oop) so you didn’t want him to be alone. Everyone needs some company, right?
Over time you noticed, that he would remember what you had told him to do with the toys, instead of simply holding them, to which you would give him a big smile.
This improvement you saw in his behavior made you even sadder when one day he stopped coming to the kindergarten. At first you had thought he was sick, but weeks went on without a single trace of him or his parents.
Upon asking you own they had told you he was sent to another kindergarten instead, that was specialized on children like him. You were sad of course, but you accepted it, hoping he would find more friends to play with now.
You only later found out he was sent to an asylum instead of another kindergarten.
The Ghostface (Danny Johnson)
Danny Johnson did not have the nicest childhood imaginable. After her divorce his mother didn’t become directly abusive to him, more so the alcohol.
He liked to think that the slurring woman bruising him wasn’t his mother, that it was simply someone else, someone more aggressive trying to be her. He didn’t want to think his mother hated him, he didn’t want to believe she would bruise him, would shout at him and blame him for what had happened to her marriage.
Even as a young boy he knew to cover his bruises. He loved his mother, he didn’t want her to be alone even though the woman the alcohol brought out of her hurt him in every way possible. But it was his fault right? His dad didn’t want him so he left him and his mother. He was responsible and the least he thought he could do was let her let out her pain on the person responsible for her misery.
In school he didn’t talk much to anyone. He was a rather shy kid, not wanting to cause anymore trouble for anyone. At lunch he sat alone, but he didn’t mind. He also didn’t mind being called weird or gross for his greasy long hair or the bags under his eyes. Not that he wanted to talk to anyone about himself anyways. Not even to you as you approached him.
You had watched him sit alone for a long time. He looked sad, restless, sometimes even scared and despite not even knowing him, it hurt you to see anyone in this state. So you went to talk to him. However, it took a while for him to stop avoiding you as best as he could and he eventually opened up to you a bit. He still didn’t tell you about the abuse until you reached middle school, but when he did you were determined to help him, to clear his understanding of him not being responsible for anything and to get him a new home.
With the help of your parents you were able to get him out of his household and soon find a acquainted family that was willing to take him in. The Olsens tried their best to provide him with everything he needed. And while you knew it would take time for him to heal, you were relieved he was part of a loving family now, that would help him back onto a safe track.
You couldn’t have known that the damage to Danny’s brain had already been done and there was no way of saving him from the twisted prison of his own mind.
OOK THESE ARE WAY DARKER THAN YOU PROBABLY WANTED BUT I OOP GOT CARRIED AWAY
I can attempt to make it more wholesome a second time if you want these were just the most logical things that came to my mind haha... honestly idk but I usually think that someone isn’t just yk born a killer (except Michael maybe pfft) so I came up with some uhm logical upbringings to the boys haha yeet..
Anyways I’m considering turning the Evan and Ghosty one into their own separate story thingsies. Kinda hard to do something with Michael bc uhm Psychiatry but possibly something with a reader that’s also in treatment or we pull a Harley Quinn sometime who knows!
For now I hope you aren’t too mad that this was so... dark instead of cute oop >:)) if you’re mad just let me die on the hook next time pffft

Abby’s POV
When she wakes up it is with a headache, a throat ache and side pain. When she looks more closely at her nose, she sees an oxygen tube through them. When she looks more closely at her surroundings, she realizes she is in a hospital bed.
Lying down. Wearing a sky blue hospital gown. With an IV through her accessory cephalic vein.
Jumping Jehoshaphat, what happened this time?
Abby spent many times in the hospital during her childhood. Most of them were due to the number of cuts and bruises she got from her father, in which some of them were very serious injuries. One time she was admitted to the hospital because...
No, Abby. Don’t relive through that phase. It’ll wound you more.
There are many types of pain. Many of her pains were physical, but some of her pains were emotional. By far, she can tell the emotional pain is the hardest to get over with.
Sure, she has been cut with a knife, raped by many of her father’s friends, and whipped with a belt. To her it was normal, and she had gotten used to it. To others, the pain is insufferable.
Heartbreak hurts. Too much. It can rip people from the inside out, and change them. For better or worse.
Her father caused her many heartbreaks. In return, she studies, skipped five grades, graduated from high school when she was 13, and graduated from Hopkins when she was 21. Some might say she took it too far, but she knows it was just what she needed.
What she needed to prove to her father that pain doesn’t break her.
What she needed to prove to her horrid patients that she is not dumb.
What she needed to prove to the whole world that she is not as young and innocent as everyone thinks she is.
Death, betrayal, and pain were her three companions, with some delectation in between. She cherished those jocund moments.
And she thanked God. Seb. Jazmin. Ethan. Herself. For all the hard work.
But what happened right now? Why is she in this bed?
It feels as if she has fallen into a cactus, her heart being punctured by tiny pins and needles. It’s starting at the bottom of her stomach, and it’s slowly growing.
The anxiety.
The depression.
It feels like some kind of vaccination, where the shot doesn’t really hurt but the aftermath feels disastrous, cataclysmic. It’s leaving her breathless, as if she is running away from a ghost from her past. It is leaving a certain kind of exhaustion on her.
It’s heartbreak. But why? Why does she feel heartbreak? What could have possibly gone wrong-
Everything. Everything is going wrong. Bingo. She knows what is happening. But she can’t even speak the name out loud. It’s petrifying her. Really well.
Louise Ramsey.
Ethan’s mother who claimed to come for him and Alan.
Louise Ramsey.
The one who tricked them, including her.
Louise Ramsey.
The one who stabbed her. The one who she trusted.
The one who she believed had a change of heart didn’t have a change of heart at all.
She fooled everyone. She’s a liar. She is manipulative. She is every dark sin written across this universe. She is the next generation of Sat-
Wait. Wait a long moment.
Oh no. Oh no no no no no.
How is Abby supposed to tell this to Ethan of all people? How is she supposed to let him know his own mother tried to harm her?
But she had to.
Moisture is falling from the tip of her index finger, even if the bed sheets feel cool. Sweat is dripping from her forehead, even if the hospital room is air conditioned. An imaginary shock travels through her body. The sharpness of the pain is unequivocal and indisputable that it sends shockwaves through her bloodstream. If it wasn’t for the bed, she would have crumpled to the floor.
She is currently holding the bed frame with a white-knuckled grip.
The young doctor scratched her arm nervously, mindful of the IV, as she let that horrifying memory fly through her.
Louise stabs her in the side, blood spilling to Abby’s legs and on the floor. She couldn’t say anything, words failing to come our of her mouth, every second making it harder to breather. She starts to lose consciousness, hearing the sounds of the patients in the room screaming for security.
Louise whispers into her ear, “The game has begun.”
The last thing she sees is Louise running towards the exit and nurses coming towards Abby, before her world evades into darkness.
That’s what happened. That’s why she’s in the hospital bed, feeling like crap.
That’s why she feels heartbreak, of all the emotions she can feel. She has heard of brother cheating on brother and father cheating on his wife. But a mother disowning her own husband and son, but then comes back only for her to clown them?
That goes all the way back to Rebekah and Jacob in the Old Testament of the Bible, if you ask me.
She is back to the question on how she is supposed to tell Ethan.
Does he know? If he knows, how does he feel? Does he feel depressed?
She sure hopes not.
When something happens to Abby, he always blamed on himself. Whether it was his fault or not. She reminisces on when Ethan apologized and was filled guilt when he found out about the trial.
Or when he came back from the Amazon. He didn’t really apologize for that, but the regret and remorse lurking beneath his eyes was the only thing she needed to know. To know that he was feeling guilt. Dismay. Lamentation.
Or when he opened up his bottled-up feelings concerning his mother. He said that he wasn’t planning on ‘dragging’ her into his mess.
Or when she was in that decontamination room. She remembers his words clearly, words that were etched into her heart.
I wished I hadn’t asked you to stay away.
Or now.
If he knows.
She knows what will happen if Ethan blames himself for this. He will be a different person. He will start becoming cold-hearted to people he cares about. He will push her away. Again.
Because he tends to believe that it is all his fault that accidents happen to the people he cherishes the most. He thinks that he is a curse. A malediction. An imprecation. She remembers the night when they connected for the first time. What he said.
This is The Ethan Ramsey. The man who can save anyone except the people he gives a damn about. Not Dolores. Not Naveen. And not you.
She was torn by what he said. Not because he said he couldn’t save her, but because he couldn’t love himself.
The young doctor hopes he already knows what happened. Who stabbed her. She couldn’t even bear the thought of seeing his face crumble. The man who was stoic. The man who every one recognized as an imbecile. The man who every single doctor is head-over-heels in love with.
Ethan told her to tell him everything. Everything that makes her angry. Everything that makes her sad. Everything that makes her happy.
If he doesn’t know what happened, she will tell him. She promised him that.
*Flashback*
It's normal for Abby to have a panic attack. Keeping her inhaler with her was vital for her to go through the day. Especially this week.
It’s been one week after the incident. That incident. That incident that took two innocent lives. Danny and Bobby. It’s all her fault.
If Danny was alive, him and Sienna would’ve been a couple, loving each other. Now, she sees a Sienna whose eyes are haunted. Grave. Not filled with any giddy or joy. She doesn’t see her smile anymore, the once blushed cheeks with her beautiful grin that shows off her dimples, gone. Lost. Thrown away.
If Bobby was alive, he could’ve bought his daughter the new car. It was what he always wanted to do. Instead of enjoying his time with his daughter in her brand new car, he’s under the cold earth.
Rafael is now going under therapy, but he also feels less confident from Rafael the paramedic. She misses the way he smiles. He does smile now, but there is no joy beneath his eyes.
And for Abby, she is not okay. She wishes she died. But she knows she couldn’t. There are people rooting for her. Her brother. Her mother. Her friends. Ethan. Ethan.
When she was informed that the gas in her body was maitotoxin and there was no cure, she accepted her fate and was ready to die. She glanced at Ethan, and his expression wasn’t betraying anything. But the eyes held more feelings than ever. They were pleading. They said, “Please don’t give up.”
She then realized that if they can find a cure within one day, she’ll try and survive. If not for me, then for Ethan and all the people I love, she thought.
Abby starts passing through that hallway. That one hallway. That one hallway that changed her life. No, that one room. And then, she passes through that room.
It’s clean, all the seals, the beds inside with new blankets and pillows. But she can’t see any of that. She can only see her, Rafael, Danny, and Bobby in that room. She sees Bobby dying. She sees Danny being taken away. She sees Rafael and herself being unable to breathe.
Suddenly she runs away. She can’t take it anymore. You stupid, why would you even come back to the hospital when you’re not ready yet? she scolds herself. Because of Farley. Damn it.
Abby is flooded by her own thoughts when she accidentally runs into someone.
“Oh, I’m so sorry, I-”
Only to know that someone is the one.
She hears his baritone voice calling out to her, finding comfort and solace in it.
“Abby? What’s wrong? Are you alright?” Ethan wipes something off her cheeks, and she realized that she was crying the whole time. She was so lost in her emotions that she didn’t a single drop falling down to her right cheek.
“I-” The young doctor tries to speak but couldn’t. She can’t breathe.
“Rookie!” Ethan quickly drags her to the nearest supply closet. He asks her where her inhaler is.
“Left... pocket...”
He hastily grabs and places it into her mouth.
“Deep breaths, rookie. Deep breaths.”
She does as she is asked and takes deep breaths. After a few long moments, her breathing level starts to go normal.
“Rookie, you weren’t ready for your first day back, were you?”
Abby starts to argue. “Of course I am! Why wouldn’t I be?”
“Because you panic attack right now seems to prove otherwise.”
She sighs. He’s right. She wasn’t even ready to set foot into the hospital. The only reason she did was because of Farley’s rash, and she thought it was life threatening.
Ethan sighs, breaking her from her thoughts.
“Go home, Abby, you’ve had a long day.”
Abby is about to snipe back when he stops her by raising his hand.
“On second thought, I’ll take you to my house. We’re gonna take a day off.”
“But Ethan, we both have patients-”
“Who will be taken care of by the other doctors in this hospital. If you think I’ll be leaving you anytime soon, you’re wrong.”
Hearing his words makes Abby feel lighthearted. She is stubborn just like him, but he’ll always be there for her.
After getting a confirmation and a wink from Naveen, they are in the car. It’s 1:00 P.M., and Abby sees couples sitting on the chairs in the outside booths of a restaurant, smiling, one couple holding hands. She dreams of these moments with Ethan, but their relationship is still uncertain.
The car stops at a red light, and she turns around to look at Ethan, who is lost in thought.
“Ethan, are you alright?” she asks him, concerned.
The mature doctor cracks a dry smile towards her. “I should be asking you that.”
“Ethan...”
“Abby... are you having suicidal thoughts?”
Abby was astounded by his question.
“Ethan! Why would you think that?”
“I’m just asking. If you ever feel that, come talk to me immediately. I can’t...”
It hit her on what Ethan was thinking about. He doesn’t want her to leave. As much as the question made her a little frustrated, she couldn’t help but think about what he was feeling throughout the whole ordeal n the decontamination room.
Abby takes a deep breath. “Ethan, I’m not suicidal. I never have been. I was just uncomfortable, that’s all.”
Ethan looks at her deeply into her eyes. She can literally feel him searching for any lies at her statement, his body relaxing when he didn’t find any.
When he stops the car, she realizes that they’re here. Before Abby can take off her seatbelt, Ethan’s hand on hers stops her from doing anything. She looks up with a questioning expression.
Ethan speaks in a very stern but concerned way. “If you ever have anything irritating or frustrating you-” he kisses her on the forehead.
“Anything that brings you pain-” He kisses her on the nose, making her scrunch it.
“Anything at all, that makes you want to cry out-” He kisses her on both cheeks.
“You come and tell me. Promise me” He finally kisses her on the lips.
As the final words come out from Ethan’s lips, she wonders about how she is so lucky to have him. Tears were burning in the back of her eyes, but this time, they were tears of gratefulness. To Ethan. For being her best friend. She cracks a smile.
“I promise.”
*Back to present*
“Hello? Ma’am? Doctor?” she is interrupted from her thoughts by a male nurse. When she checks his tag, his name is Caspian Chapman, and he has a light British accent. She hasn’t seen him before. Abby suddenly feels embarrassed. Who knows how many times, he called her like that.
“Hi, I am so sorry,” she says shyly. “I was lost in thought. Were you speaking to me this whole time?”
Caspian gives her a wide smile. “Nope! I just came in! My name is Caspian, and I will be your nurse! I am new here so...” he trails off.
The young resident laughs, despite the pain on her left side. “Haha, don’t worry! I’m not one of those Karens! Now tell me, how long will I be staying here?”
“From the stab wound you received, you will probably be admitted here for a week.”
Abby inwardly groans, wanting to just go home. Of course this would happen. Even if she’s disappointed by the news, she knows that it is vital for her to recover.
“So, did the stab wound affect my liver or...” she winces at her left side.
Caspian sighs. “You are correct. They brought you to surgery quickly, or who knows what would have happened.”
“Wait, how did you know I’m a doctor?”
Caspian smiles again. “Are you kidding me? You are Dr. Ethan Ramsey’s protege and in the diagnostics team! Not only that, you helped him save Dr. Naveen Banerji! You are also popular on Instagram. Anyone would kill to be in a spot and reputation like you.”
Her cheeks grow red.
“I suppose so...” she trails off.
The new male nurse speaks. “Anyways, I should let Dr. Ramsey, Dr. Banerji, and your family know that you are awake! They will be at relief.”
Wait, what? Ethan is here? Naveen is here? My family is here? They must’ve found out the harsh truth.
As Caspian turns to leave, Abby stops him. The nurse turns around.
“Yes? Is something the matter?”
“I just wanted to know if they knew who stabbed me.”
Caspian grimaces. “Yes, they are well aware. Do you not wish to speak to them?”
Oh no. Ethan knows. What will she do? Should she call in her family first? No Abby, he'll think that I’m mad at him! She inwardly slaps herself.
Okay, Abby, deep breaths. She took a deep breath, held it for three seconds, and exhaled.
“Can you do me a favor and call in Eth- Dr. Ramsey first?”
“I will,” he replies back.
______________________________________________________________
Ethan’s POV
He is terrified. Terrified to go and see her. Terrified to talk to her. But he has to. He has to let her know he loves her. He has to let her know that he can’t live without her. He feels a hand on his shoulder. Seb.
“Ethan, buddy, remember what I said. Tell her you love her. Make yourself happy. Make her happy. And she will never blame you for anything that happened. She’s a very reasonable girl.”
He looks into Seb’s eyes, and sees that there is something he didn’t tell him. Some kind of sadness, but there is happiness mixed in. He will find out later.
The older doctor turns around and sees the support written in their faces. Seb. Jazmin. Naveen. They are smiling broadly.
Naveen claps him on his back. “Now go get your woman, Ethan.”
Ethan smiles back. “Thank you, guys.”
He took a deep breath and opened the doors.
There she is. Abby. At once, she turned her head around, and at once, dusky brown met ocean blue. She looks tired, her body a little weak, but she still gives him a wide smile that sends his heart swooping forward. Oh, he has it bad.
“Ethan. Hey.” Abby welcomes him and pats at a seat on her bed. He, however, was hesitant to do so.
“Are you sure? I don’t want to hurt you...”
She rolls her eyes. “Ethan, I was stabbed, not hit by a truck. Now, be a good boy and sit on the bed.”
He does as he is asked, sitting on the edge, eyes never leaving hers. “How do you feel?”
“My side’s kinda sore, but I’ll survive... How are you?” she asks hesitantly.
“W-What do you mean?” he stutters. Ethan Ramsey never stutters.
“...I know who the perpetrator is, Ethan.” So she does know.
Before Ethan can say anything, Abby replies. “I know you are blaming yourself for what your mother did. But I will say it again and again until it gets through that smart head of yours. It’s not your fault, do you hear me?”
His eyes are shining with tears, his heart all the way up to his throat.
“Abby... I’m sorry. I’m so sorry.” He blinks, and a droplet fails to stay in his eyes, escaping from the confinement.
The young resident suddenly sits up, wincing a little at the abrupt movement. Her eyes are full of alarm. “Ethan, c'mere.”
And he does. He hugs her tight, mindful of her side, his nose nuzzling his neck. Abby wraps her arms around him and strokes his hair. The motion gives him a sense of peace. His eyes drop a few more tears. I will tell her.
“Abby, I love you.” She tenses. Before she says anything, he cuts her off.
“No, Abby, please listen to me. I’ve loved you since the first day you’ve stepped foot into this hospital. I love how you’re always a colossal pain in my ass. I love how your eyes sparkle every time you hear good news. I love how your dimples pop up when you smile. I love how you bite your lip when you think about something. I love everything about you. Your courage. Your admiration. Your passion. I love you body. I love you face. And i now know, that I never want to let you go again.”
When Ethan pulls back and cups her face, he can see the tears glistening, failing to hold still and dropping down onto her cheeks. She half-sobs and half-laughs.
“Ethan, I love you, too.” And that is all he needs to hear.
He kisses her cold lips gently and pulls back, finding his sense of relief. She, in return, kisses his forehead. He promises to himself one thing: he’ll never let her go again.
______________________________________________________________
Seb’s POV
Seeing them crying of happiness makes him smile, his heart feeling elevated with joy. They deserve this joy. They both’ve been through a lot lately, and confessing their love for each other was their first step towards recovery.
“Psst! Seb!” Amma. Behind her is Naveen.
“How is it going there?”
The surgeon smiles triumphantly. “Our plan worked.”
Quiet cheers came out of their mouths.
“Finally!” Naveen sighs. “I’ve been waiting for this moment for months. Ethan’s too damn stubborn for his own good.”
Seb laughs quietly. “That he is.”
Amma scratches his wool sweater. He just realized the feeling of itch on his skin because of the wool. And he can’t wait to take it off. But they won’t be leaving Abby’s room for the next two days. Not him, at least.
“Will it be alright if we go in and interrupt them?” Amma asks hesitantly. “I have an urge to hug my daughter after the incident.’
“I am sure that will be alright.”
Amma knocks the door. After hearing an acknowledgment, all three of them walked in.
“Hi Ethan, is it alright if I hug my daughter? I do not mean to waste any of your-”
Ethan looks at her incredulously. “Why would you ask me if you want to hug your own daughter? I don’t mind at all.”
The famous doctor looks at Seb with a questioning look, who shrugs.
Mother rushes forward and hugs Abby carefully, sobbing as she kisses al of her face. The resident sighs.
“Amma, look at me.” Abby forces Jazmin’s face to her. “I. Am. Fine.”
“Sorry, Ladoo, your mother was just very worried when we got the call. I won’t try to cry, alright?”
The Chacko smiles easily. “now that’s what I wanted to hear from you. My Amma is strong.”
Abby sighs and looks at Seb and Naveen, smiling cheerily. “Who’s next in line for cuddles?”
Seb comes forward, finally at ease when he kisses her forehead gently. He hugs her as tight as he can, the injury preventing him for hugging her more.
“Please, for the love of Pete, please never scare us like that again.”
She laughs lightly and cuddles closer to him. “I’ll try not to.”
Seb looks up and sees Ethan with a light smile on his face. He finally feels light, free.
He then hears Jazmin’s stomach grumble lightly. Abby laughs hearing this. “Why did you guys not eat? All of you need to get food. Now.”
“I’m not gonna leave you this time around,” he replies.
Seb’s sister groans. “I knew you would say that.”
The surgeon has an idea. “How about I get all of us some burgers from a nearby restaurant? Since I doubt Ethan’s gonna like what he gets from the cafeteria.”
The famous attending shrugs and then grins easily. “You know me so well.”
“Only for you.”
Abby is on a strict water diet for two days, so he considers buying a cup of chocolate pudding for her. As he leaves the room, he sees Naveen hugging Abby, which brought some emotions to the Chacko. Naveen is like the father he never had before.
Seb is really joyous and filled with triumph at the love confessions between Abby and Ethan. He only wishes it could happen to him.
But it can’t. Because he lost the love of his life last year. Due to a seizure. While she was giving birth. All of their promises. All of their hopes and dreams. Gone. Forever
I miss her... I miss her a lot.
Suddenly, he hears a whistle. A familiar whistle. It sounds like her.
When she was alive, they used to whistle a lot. it was a form of their communication. The whistle that heard now was a way of saying, “Turn around.”
No, Seb, he thinks. You’re just letting yourself get too emotional. Stop hallucinating.
But then he hears it again. And it’s behind him. A little far away from him.
He’s afraid to turn around. He can’t move.
He forces himself to turn around, like the whistle had told him to.
And then he sees her. He sees her. He actually sees her.
No way, it can’t be... Suddenly, Seb speaks.
“...Dolores? Is that really you?”
She smiles. That smile. He missed that damn smile. Her face and hands are covered with small bruises.
And she talks. “Yeah, Seb. It’s me. Dolores Hudson. I’m alive. I really am.”
______________________________________________________________
Mystery Man’s POV
I give Louise some cash that she was looking forward to.
“Great, thanks!” she says with a smile.
“Anything for my wife,” I reply, with an emphasis on the word ‘wife’.
She rolls her eyes. “Ugh, don’t call me that. I married you to destroy them, not to love you. Now where’s that manicure you promised?”
Louise is annoying as hell. Sometimes I wonder how her former husband Alan dealt with her. What a man, I think.
She gives me a mischievous grin. “Now give me a kiss.”
I groan, and I quickly give her a kiss, not wanting it to last for long.
Then, I feel a vibration in my pocket. It’s my phone. I pick it up.
It’s one of my guards. And I can’t believe what I’m hearing. I bark him an order. Blood rushes through my veins, and for the first time in a long time, I feel fear.
I hang up the phone and look at Louise, whose eyes held confusion. I decide to answer her questioning glance.
“Missing captive alert. Dolores Hudson has escaped.”
______________________________________________________________
a/n 2: hope you liked that ending!
a/n 3: i know dolores died of a seizure while under an emergency c-section, but in this au, i refuse to believe so :)

Soft reminder that Clockwork is one of the most manipulative characters in the DP series.
He let Dark Danny’s family and friends die but let Danny’s remain alive, he even saved them himself. Makes you wonder why he didn’t just do that to begin with, unless he needed one timeline to happen to make another become viable.
Another reminder that he was the one who caused the Nasty Burger to explode, he send Box Lunch after Danny in his house and it’s their fight that leads Danny to getting the test answers and for the heat lamp being pressed against the sauce canisters. There was no ghost attack until he instigates one.
Phantom (Dark Danny) even mentions knowing Clockwork and stating that he’s ‘meddling again’, meaning he’s already come into Phantom’s timeline and tried to mess with the outcome before, maybe it was that initial meddling that caused Phantom to be what he is now.
Another time where Clockwork’s made it so Danny learns about time travel not being the answer to everything (like he learned here) is by letting Danny go back in time to change Vlad’s past only to make things worse. Hm, where have we seen this outcome before?
Finally, in AGIT, Clockwork could have easily timed out Phantom and put him back in the thermos, but for some reason Phantom just instantly takes his staff and wins? Not to mention the thermos was left on an open shelf and not somewhere more secure, like he saw it being knocked over and all the events of AGIT needed to happen for something else to occur.
I think he needed Danny to become the bridge to right a wrong of his, could even be that Clockwork’s the one who caused the Split between dimensions and Danny’s his way of fixing it by making the discovery himself (my guess is Clockwork can’t disclose information about things without others finding out themselves).
Tldr: Clockwork’s been pulling the strings in order for Danny to bring forth the ‘perfect’ timeline to mend something that broke reality. That and he is willing to make others suffer for that outcome to happen.
#danny phantom#clockwork has favourites#clockwork danny phantom#dp clockwork#it’s clockwork’s fault#I love him but oooh this guy’s got some shit up his sleeves#he’s not a villain#but he’s willing to make others lives difficult for the ‘greater good’

Hurricane
Paring: Dr. Ethan Ramsey x F!MC (Dr. Rebecca Lao) Word Count: 1.5k Warning: Nothing but the story will be rated T+ Summary: A hurricane is falling over Boston and Edenbrook and it’s surrounding area has been evacuated.
Author’s Note: This was inspired by an anon prompt request for “protection”. I hope I did it justice! This will also be a multi part story.

________________________________________
There’s a hurricane encroaching on Boston in the early-autumn evening; the sky was ominous as bullets descended in every which way. The moon is full and the tide will be high at 8PM. A seemingly cosmic prank. Although Edenbrook is technically five feet from the flood zone, after the destruction that was Hurricane Sandy a few years prior the board was not taking any chances, deciding to evacuate all patients and staff.
Harper was in charge of triaging patients, scattering them to three other hospitals closer inland. Ethan was reviewing cases for any patients who aren't in critical conditions and can be discharged into their families care immediately. As Chief, Naveen was delegating staff; he had his assistant send a precautionary page to all employees who live in the flood zone to return home and get their affairs in order. He’s already assigned almost all of the senior attendings, nurses and interns to assist alternate hospitals in the area. Once half of the eager staff members were assigned, all others would be on leave until Edenbrook opened their doors in three days or when FEMA came barreling in - whichever was safest.
They have six hours to evacuate.
Tension ran high as the wind increased pelting anything in its path with egregious amounts of rain. The sky was dark, making the bright and stark interior of the hospital seem otherworldly. The familiar sensation of pre-calm washed over Becca as she remembered her mother’s hurricane preparations every year. Pack a bag and some food and a sleeping bag, and take refuge in the primary school on top of the hill. Get as high as you can and away from the bay.
But where is there to hide in the middle of a small city?
“This is my first hurricane. Oh my god am I going to die?” Elijah panicky asked Becca as they conversed in the middle of the hallway after quickly doing their second set of rounds that day.
“You’ll be fine, Elijah,” she reassured. She’d made it nearly 28 years without dying in a hurricane, statistically they will survive this natural disaster. “Has Farley said anything?” If Edenbrook is being evacuated then their building was surely in the flood zone.
He checked his phone to see the message from their building manager. Farley has sent an emergency email out to all residents that he recommends tenants seek shelter at higher elevation elsewhere as a precaution.
“We’re going to die.”
Becca put her hands on her friends shoulders, staring right into his eyes hoping to regulate his breathing, “We’re not.” Elijah nodded his head letting her determination sink in. “Who else do we know that lives away from the hospital?”
“No one with accessible access if the power goes out…” Elijah trailed off.
It dawned on Becca then and there that Elijah was afraid. He was terrified of getting stuck somewhere, unable to escape because of his chair. The thought never passed Becca’s mind. She felt immensely guilty.
Her eyes softened as she encouraged, “We’ll figure it out. I’ll meet you in the locker room in ten.”
Becca made her way to the nurses station, making sure for the fourth and final time that all her patients have been allocated to another hospital and were already on the buses out. She noticed Ethan had taken command of the station and was sitting there alone going through his files.
He looked up briefly at the approaching footsteps. “All of your patients have been evacuated,” he informed with his attention back on the computer screen.
A smile immediately perked at the corners of Becca’s lips at his inane understanding of her behavior - he knew exactly why she was still at the hospital and what she was doing here at the nurse’s station. Becca rounded behind the desk to fully take in all he had left to do. There were three piles set before them and a split screen on the computer.
Her hand trailed over the leftmost pile of unfamiliar names, “Do you need any help?”
He shook his head and then asked, “What are you doing?”
“Haven’t really gotten that far,” she shrugged earnestly. “My main concern is getting all our patients out of here safely.”
That was true. Becca wanted her patients and her friends to be safe. But she also wanted to make sure Ethan was not putting himself in any danger.
He looked at her. He took in her runaway hairs poking out all over her head, the humidity making them more unruly than usual. The dark rings under her eyes were more prominent given her current ten-hour shift, but her brown eyes still glimmered in the fluorescent lighting. Like always his heart beat just a little bit faster when she’s around.
His blue eyes turned to her, effervescent and full of a clarity Becca craved.
“Come stay with me,” he said as if it were any other evening and the world wasn’t falling apart outside.
Ethan and Becca had been delicately exploring their feelings, stepping over the line between professionalism and temptation every now and again. Ever since that evening of the Mass Kenmore and Edenbrook softball game - the night he finally kissed her first. That was months ago. Since then the pair kept their indulgences secret - not even her closest of friends knowing where she’d spend some of her evenings. They never defined their relationship or came to the conclusion that they even had one.
They were two people who enjoyed the company of the other. Two people who also sometimes kissed.
As always she couldn’t contain the butterflies in her stomach and the weightlessness of her chest whenever he looked her in the eye, like he was looking straight into the depths of her soul. She wished she could close the gap between them caress his cheek.
“I can’t.”
He looked at her as if she just said the stupidest thing imaginable. His mouth was agape but Becca was quicker to clarify,
“You don’t live that much farther and I can’t leave Elijah alone.” Her selfless eyes told him all he needed to know.
She was right. He knew she was right.
Ethan couldn’t believe what he was about to say, “Bring him.”
Becca took a step back, trying to ground herself because right now she felt like she was hallucinating. “What?”
He noticed her hesitation and began to stand.
“Take my car,” he began to explain in his authoritative voice. Ethan was not taking no for an answer. “Go home and pack a bag. Then drive up to Naveen’s cabin. You remember how to get there?”
She nodded. His words were not fully settling in. Was she even still speaking with Ethan Ramsey?
“If not it’s saved in the car’s navigation. Also pack some food, knowing Naveen I doubt he has much stored.” He took his keys out from his trouser pocket and took off two keys - his car and the cabin - handing them to her.
She was still in shock as he took her hand and placed the cold metal into her palm.
Ethan couldn’t help the light chuckle that escaped his lips as she stood there flabbergasted. “Okay?” his left hand gripped her shoulder trying to coax her out of her daze, his right hand with the keys still lingering against her palm.
Their eyes locked, reeling Becca back to reality. Even in the uncertainty surrounding them Becca felt an overwhelming sense of comfort.
“Okay,” she smiled up at him.
***
Downstairs Elijah was sitting outside Becca’s locker with his backpack in his lap, ready to face the music of his first east coast natural disaster.
“Hey,” he greeted her nervously once she finally stepped foot into the locker room.
“Ready to go?” Becca asked.
“Where are we going? I haven -”
She grabbed her things out quickly and said with a coy smile, “Come on, pal.”
Her confidence did nothing to settle Elijah’s uneasiness. She was behind him and moving them along quickly through the halls.
“What - where are we going?”
They made their way to the staff parking lot and she unlocked the car door before leaving the awning so they wouldn’t get too soaked.
“Why do you have a car?” he asked incredulously.
Elijah was beyond confused.
Becca threw on their hoods and prepared to dodge the droplets as best they could. “We’re leaving the city!”
The two made it to their building, luckily getting a spot right out front. They shook off their wet clothes by the front door and noticed Sienna sitting motionlessly on the sofa.
“Sienna, What are you doing here?” Becca quizzed in confusion, “Aren’t you going to Danny’s?”
Sienna put her book down and smiled effortlessly at her friends, “He’s taking an extra shift at Mass Kenmore and staying with his parents. It didn’t feel right staying there by myself. And Bryce is at capacity between him, Jackie, Aurora and his sister. So I’ll stay here and man the hatches.”
Behind her best friend's cavalier attitude Becca knew better - she knew she was scared.
Without a moment's hesitation she instructed, “Pack a bag and some food, you’re coming with us. I’ll explain in the car.”
With that all three doctors ran to their rooms and packed their most prized possessions and enough clothes for four days - just in case. Sienna nearly emptied the contents of their kitchen into her bag - all the snacks, alcohol, perishables and baking supplies being of utmost importance.
It was going to be a very intriguing few days.

MY MASTERLIST
‘She hasn’t left the room in two days.’ Jackie said with concern in her voice, as Casey usually joins them for dinner and everything in between.
‘Have you tried messaging her, or perhaps calling? Does this place has a spare key or something?!’ Bryce yelled unintentionally with concern in his voice.
‘We do, but… Elijah misplaced it.’ Jackie’s eyes fall to the ground.
‘Hey! Sienna was the one who put it by the rack, and maybe it disappeared?’ Elijah yelled once more from the kitchen, as he was hoarding the cookie jar.
‘I would not tell a lie! I put it riiiiiight, here!’ She said pointing on the spot where the key was invisible from their eyes.
‘Yeah, right.. the key is gonna magically appear there or should we call Ludini The Great?’ Jackie said with a hint of sarcasm.
‘Hey, maybe the pets ate it? We never know!’ Elijah eyes the three furballs in the room, as they were playing at their own pace. Jackie sighs, as she tries turning the knob once more.
‘Its no use guys, she won’t budge.’ Sienna said, making her way to both of them.
Bryce looks at the door with concern, and knocks on it. The first time, he didn’t get any response. He knew her all too well, that she was a stubborn girl. After a few knocks, he heard a sigh from behind the door.
‘She’s alive!’ An enthusiastic Elijah can be heard from the other side of the door.
‘Cas, open up! We are worried!’ Sienna said, as she knocks following Bryce’s lead.
‘No, I am not coming out and none of you are coming in!’ Casey yelled from the other side, as the three of them excluding Bryce lets out a number of sighs as, they know their efforts are worthless.
‘You should try it meathead, we know she has a soft spot for you after all.’ Jackie winks at him, earning a smile.
‘Nobody could resist me Jackie, watch and learn.’
She lets out a scoff, and rolled her eyes at the comment.
‘Here we go again, I’m going to go for my night shift. Make sure she is okay meathead!’ Jackie yelled as she took her coat and left the apartment with Elijah following behind.
‘Take care of her for us Bryce, we need updates every hour!’ Sienna exclaimed as she left the apartment as well, getting the groceries or maybe code word, giving them some space.
‘Gotcha Double O Tiny!’ Bryce waves back, as he took a deep breath. As he knocks once more, with a soft voice.
-------------------------
‘Casey, open up. It’s me.’
The door opened instantly, as a mess up looking Casey appears from the darkness of the room. It felt sad and gloomy, as her eyes were puffy from the crying, and she looked like she hasn’t eaten for days. Technically, 48 hours but… she looked weak and not the same Casey he known. He sensed the fear in her eyes, as the events from the last week had started to played in her mind. In which lifetime one can saw two of the closest people in their life died? Death was inevitable yet, she knew she could’ve done something. She knew deep down, that she should’ve stopped them from being involved. She could’ve pushed Rafael, Bobby and Danny out of the room. Letting herself suffer in silence, the way she always meant to be. She didn’t recognize who she was anymore, somehow deep down the old Casey had left her body. Those days, seems to be a reflecting phase for her. Somehow, a small step for grieving, letting herself feel the pain and, it doesn’t stop her from blaming herself. Nobody is worth the blame in this situation except for her.
Her eyes welled up in tears once again, just letting herself fall as Bryce catches her instantly. A worried expression was on his face, he knew this phase was coming. She seemed off during the funeral, as the words lessen. The smile kept on fading, as she tried her hardest to keep it. He accompanied her that day, after the funeral. They were walking down the street alongside one another, something he wanted to do after not being present in her days.
‘Casey, talk to me’ He held her, as both of them starts to sink onto the wooden floors. The cold and hard floors, that were made for the comfortable of the residents.
She didn’t say a word, as the sobbing continues. Her sobs last for an hour at least, as it finally subsided but, he didn’t leave her side. A part of him too, felt the pain she was feeling. It was a permanent scar in her heart, where the reality of life that you can’t save anyone. He had seen it, as he worked the best of his abilities to save a patient in surgery, as his scalpel cuts through the body with sense of calmness and steadiness. But, as the results came out negative; he realizes not everyone can be saved, as he drowns the pain of it with a few glasses of beer at Donahue’s. It helped him ease the pain, as he would be tipsy enough to forget. The feeling of not being good enough, or perhaps the fact that he didn’t do enough. He knew the pain all too well.
‘It was supposed to be me Bryce, I was supposed to die in the room. I should’ve pushed them out, Bobby has a family. Danny deserves a chance to live, and why did I have to survive? They should’ve taken me instead?’ Her voice broke the silence of his thoughts, as the sob resumes in small bits.
‘No, don’t say that. You deserve to live Cas, and we couldn’t save everyone Casey. We couldn’t.’ He felt his tears started to fall as well, as a reminder of the past starts haunting him once again.
Casey stood up, with denial written all over her face.
‘Why?! WHY WE COULDN’T SAVE ANYONE? I TOLD YOU, I DON’T DESERVE TO LIVE. I KILLED A PERSON, AND I SHOULD’VE BEEN TAKEN INSTEAD?!’ Casey yells as loud as she could, fighting the denial once more. The looked of Bobby’s and Danny’s face can be seen, as it was replayed over and over again.
‘CASEY! Stop it!’ He held his arms tightly, his voiced was raised a bit.
‘WHY Bryce?! Tell me why couldn’t I be the one to left this world instead of them? I feel disgusted, freaking disgusted looking at myself in the mirror since that day. I feel as if, it should’ve been me. Nobody deserves to die, nobody deserves to die except for me….’ Her shouts was stopped, as Bryce pulls her into his arms as the grip starts to loosen. As his lips met hers, the final way of stopping her. She went quiet, as she was hypnotize by the moment.
They pulled away in an instant, a sad look on his face.
‘Casey, you deserve to live. Danny and Bobby wouldn’t want you to blame yourself for their deaths. It wasn’t your fault.’ His voice was shaky too, somehow the same tone after the funeral was used once more.
The denial starts to wear off. The mention of Bobby and Danny makes the tears started to flow once more, somehow the rage started to wear off. As she surrendered in his arms. Somehow, blaming herself has been a habit of hers, ever since she was kid. She always took the chance to throw herself under the bus, especially in troubles. The guilt of it, made her weak. It took lots of years to make it better, as she somehow managed to control it. But, recently… it felt like she was inside the body of her 13-year-old self that she hated. The body where she felt hopeless, helpless, worthless and everything in between. Their deaths triggered her in some way, as it felt like a key to unlocking her old self. The one that is filled with demons, that she tried so hard to fight and, the battle that she almost lose to.
‘I..’ she paused, as she felt speechless for once. The words seemed to disappear as she held onto him for dear life, as if he would disappear in any second. The comfort of it all, kept her sane. She lets herself to cry it out, letting the tears that could somehow fill the swimming pool of her old school. In between moments, she heard sniffles came from him, as he was crying too. Both of them were letting their guard down, their vulnerability was shown in the late nights at the heart of Edenbrook, or perhaps Boston. It was Bryce and Casey, against the demons inside of them. A small way of fighting back, within being in each other’s arms.
After a while, they decided to call it a night. Bryce didn’t have to ask, as Casey invited him to stay the night. Their faces were facing each other, as they held each other into the night. The pain of the day started to roll down their backs, the insecurities of the past, and the blame of the present. As, the night goes on, she whispered.
‘don’t give up on me, Bryce..’ her voiced started to doze off, as Bryce pushed the strand of her hair from her face, observing her face. The puffy eyes, as a small smile was seen on his face.
‘Never, don’t give up on me too Cas.’
He whispered, as he kissed her forehead as they went into slumberland. A feeling of content, as the demons inside of them were still there, somehow a snapback from the past. But, they will not give up. Not yet, maybe it will take forever. They will definitely have each other until the end of time.
THE END.

Who of the DBD original killers do you think would be cool to see in horror movies? What characters do you think have the most potential for a film and what do you think it should/could be like?
Interesting question! Let’s see: Lisa, Sally, Philip, Max, Evan, Herman, Anna, Kenneth, Rin, Frank/Julie/Susie/Joey, Adiris, Danny (kind of), Kazan, Caleb, Talbot, and the Deshayes.
Hmmmm. Danny would work the least well as an original product, because he’s also a Scream expy thing. And then I also don’t think Talbot would work well outside a very DbD like in-universe heavy story, because he just has so much realm context backstory.
Out of the others, they all have potential. Basically none of the sympathetic ones would work as standalone horror characters, because they just didn’t like, /do/ murders before in-realm or live horror lives. The exceptions being Charlotte, Legion, Anna, Max, and Lisa. A lot of the others are definitely interesting enough to be really cool to watch their backstory lives, just, it wouldn’t be traditional horror. Charlotte and Lisa wouldn’t be the antagonists, but they /did/ both live complex horror lives before the realm, and there’s a lot of tragic potential there. Anna, Max, and Legion are all fairly sympathetic killers, but they /did/ live horror experiences before their time in-realm, so they have potential too. Out of them, I think Anna would be the strangest to adapt as traditional horror, since so much of her genre is tragedy and drama, and a narrative from her pov doesn’t play her as living a horror story, while Max and Legion’s do. It /could/ be crazy sad and work though, especially if you say, started the film from the pov of a kid who is kidnapped by her and the family who loses the child, and then only slowly as Anna goes from this horrific thing that kills people and steals children and eats human, to a weird kidnapper mother-wannabe, does she become less a monster and more complex. Maybe then you get flashbacks. It’d be dark, though, because even if you learned her past and understood what she’s been through and why she did what she did, and she and the child form any kind of bond, and she’s temporarily happy with a daughter and full of affection, you know none of her kids ever lived, so it would have to end with the child she’s had a few slow heartwarming moments with falling ill and her working hard to make her better, keep her warm, only to return from a hunt or panicked mission to collect herbs, relieved to have found what she needs, only to find a cold lifeless body waiting. Which she cradles for hours weeping, and then goes to bury finally behind the house, and only then does the audience realize this is one more joining fourteen graves that have come before it. And god, that’s just...so dismal. Chilling.
Uhhh, Max could be really good, but I would be so afraid people would adapt him badly because mentally ill and disabled antagonists in horror like, almost without fail are disgustingly treated. So, this one gives me fear. It could be a really nice character study, slow understanding movie though, where you go from identifying with him and him being the character in a horror situation, to the monster at the end of the film killing anything who comes near him in a frenzied need to be left alone. Also a very tragic and dark film.
The Legion would be a top pick, because it’s less dark and more like, unique? As far as horror goes. You get these kids, kind of a Gingersnaps, The Craft feel horror, with character-driven and a slow build into the actual horror of it all. Things only spiral slowly, and you like and sympathize with at least to some degree the stupid shit teens by the time things fall apart and their is blood on their hands. And there’s just--so much in the air. One murder. Unplanned. Punk troublemakers that just went off the edge into something darker on accident, and never really have time to choose what this means for them as people or if they’ll come back, because they are still in the immediate turmoil of processing that first kill when the Entity grabs them all. Could be really sick. Also there’s so much sweet-tragedy to work with here, I die for it. Ahhh, and baby Jeff Johansen! --Side note: while I think a lot of these would be cool horror films, honestly, I wouldn’t make horror flicks out of any of them. The reason isn’t that they would be bad films, but that I think the ideal way to adapt dbd killers cinematically would be in like, a DbD tie-in miniseries that’s a collection of stories that gives you backstories like archives does, but does it /way/ better. Like how Overwatch does character short films periodically for lore, except longer and probably live action. Or like the Coming To America segments in American Gods before episodes/chapters that introduce characters or backstory. I fkn love that concept in media when it’s done well. I think it would be super sick, and it would be a great way to tie things into dbd while letting different killers have unique flavors and storytelling styles to their shortfilms. (Honestly, DbD as a concept could make for some /fantastic/ tv show material. I’d /love/ to adapt it. And if there /was/ a show, it would be really cool to periodically have episodes that are just character backstories before you go back to the like, over-arching realtime plot).
Uhhhh, Lisa’s would be tragic, and it would /have/ to go full story. Poor kid just living her life, to kidnapped and struggling to survive. Trying to escape. Canibalized and tortured horribly. Eventually dying and vowing revenge. All the way to twisted and abused by the Entity, doing things she never ever would have chosen for herself, for just the...the fucking wholesale tragedy of her. Honestly, if DbD had a show, she’d be a /fantastic/ choice for first or second killer to get a backstory segment or episode, because like, people new to the media would understandably be like ‘yo these monsters are all 100% evil’ but then you get Lisa and you’re like ‘Oh fuck. That was one of the creepiest, and really she’s some poor young woman who needs rescuing as much as the survivors,’ and then there’s just so much left up in the air to question--who else is like her? And who is like Danny, or Freddy? Who is somewhere in between? Great for storytelling.
Uhhh, it’d take a long time to break down how I’d adapt all of these even with me doing shortform like this so I’ll try to be brief. Let me see. Charlotte would be great horror, back to the original question, not my miniseries fantasy, because her whole life is a horror film she’s the victim in, but her situation is complex and fascinating, and she’s a kid, and it’s so tragic, but not in a pointless way. Her life was full of love and pain, but it mattered, to her, to her mom who loved her and died for her, and to the baby brother whose corpse she couldn’t stop cradling and literally carrying not just with but in her. I think you’d have to finish that heartbroken for the girl, and hoping somehow she is able to find healing in whatever time she has left.
Sally and Philip both went through awful stuff, but Philip’s is not really a subject for just a horror film--although his time in Autohaven could be. Sally also had horrific experiences at her job, but again, like Max, less excited about this one because I don’t trust many people to do a good job with an asylum story. If done well, could be really tragic. Watching her fall apart trying to care about the people who just deserve help, and falling apart being abused by the criminals kept right in the next room over. The horrific ‘treatments’, the slow influence of the Entity whispering in her head, her finally fracturing and believing so completely she is saving people by purifying them and setting them free while she smothers a young boy who trusted her to death. Devastating. And Philip’s life overall and his time in autohaven lend themselves very well to horror, and he’d be a magnificent protagonist, I just don’t think if it was mostly the stuff in America, that that’s a full-length movie. Could be a really great like 45 minute short film. God, poor Philip. He deserved /none/ of this. Uhhh, Rin’s is horrific, with her as the victim, but like Philip, there’s not a /ton/ of buildup, so short film, not feature? Also God, poor Rin. She was just a kid. Doing her best. Please, Entity, fucking stop this.
This leaves Evan, Herman, Kenneth, Adiris, Kazan, and Caleb. Out of these, Caleb would make for a really good movie, but I don’t think it would be a horror film? It’d be a drama, or action-adventure. I mean don’t get me wrong--dark drama--his life was fucked--but like, it isn’t very horror-genre. Kenneth would be super gross but he fits classic horror well so if you want a killer clown, let’s goooo, but like? It’d just be two hours of him drugging, torturing and assaulting and then killing kids, teens, young adults, adults, and old people? And like, almost getting caught but not, and then being recruited by the Entity? And there’s just...not a story in there I see very worth telling? So I’d hard pass. Gross.
Uhhhh, Herman is boring if he’s rewrite. Torture bastard but like with mad scientist vibes is more interesting, and I could dig a CIA is evil film. Only, since he canonically kills /everybody/ in the building, you’d either have to retcon, or have a very disappointing film. Because Herman can’t be the pov character if he’s mad scientist Herman--you kinda need to see that from the outside at least as like, a deuteragonist. Not that horror is always disappointing if the cast all dies--sometimes that works--but like. Given the plotline I know Herman’s life takes, I can’t see your protag being slowly mind control tortured and then eventually experimented on and ripped apart until they die Herman’s last day being a very worthwhile storyline. If you retcon the complete losses though, and have maybe a spy who is the pov character, experimented on a lot, tries to escape and is punished, maybe tries to help a friend, tries to kill Herman in retribution for what he does to a colleague, and last day, somehow finds a way to survive whatever is done to them/not end up vegetative for the rest of their life or dead? Maybe puts a plan into action and messes up a machine and gets hit with a much lower than it looks like dosage of electricity and fakes vegetative, and survives, and witnesses the Entity come and take Herman even, and the Entity notices them and is like “Okay...more free food” so you have a last minute terrified beat to shit spy trying to break free of arm restraints and escape the place before the Entity gets them. Maybe rescues someone else too? Then baybeee we got a story with a great antag! Throw in a new protag to spice it up and u got something I’d like to see. If it’s just torture man lover Herman -the mad scientist aspect, I am not super interested but it’s not a /hard/ pass. I keep this pitch, it just becomes a less interesting film.
Adiris baby, I’m so sorry I didn’t do you with the sympathetic killers you know I love you your name was just late in my list because of how I typed it. Uhhh, her life doesn’t lend well to horror, although she’s a fantastic drama or epic. I’d love to see a major focus on her in-relam in a show, but as far as this question goes, I just don’t think that’s her genre.
This leaves Kazan and Evan. Guess I lied before about not going into any detail TuT but I’ll try. Uhhh. Kazan I am just not that interested in the story of? Man goes around killing farmers brutally for no reason. It’s less horror, more historical drama, unless you take the pov of a victim who seeks revenge or something. So, like Herman, he’d need a pov character fix to make it work. But the end result I find much less compelling. I’d probably pass. It’s just not that interesting to me.
Evan. Well, he’d be a good film I think. Classic horror. Rich, privileged, conceited bastard. Even worse father. Dead mom, drama as a young man. Becomes a horrific monster and loves it, cooks workers to death in his foundry furnace for no reason except sadism, lots of kidnapping workers and forcing them into slavery for him and then horrific murder. Kinda a torture-porn leaning here if you’re not careful, but it could be a really solid flick. I don’t think any of his victims survive though, so without a retcon, it’d be a pretty damn dark one. You could have any number of pov characters that just end up burned to death, or beaten to death, or buried alive and suffocated or starved, crushed to death. You could follow Evan and just be overwhelmed with horror and disgust for the person he becomes. But it works better than some of the other dark horror options, so I’d say it has potential. Especially as a lead-in to DbD, because then it works better as a storyline, because it isn’t totally over.
Hope you enjoyed this! Again though, a lot of these could make nice movies, but I think like 45 minute episode TV show for DbD would be ideal, and they’d all make /phenomenal/ backstory short films. Even the ones that really don’t lend to standalone feature.
