Because Uzumakis? Canonically bat shit insane. Will look at Death and laugh. Probably invite them to dinner. Will create things just because they can, with no care for what types of rules of reality they are actively breaking. Will take a look at those rules as suggestions. 

And Uzu? An entire island nation who got slaughtered, who were betrayed. They have Unfinished Business! Things to DO! Projects to FINISH! Descendents to FIND! If they can find a way from this green place! 

And then? There is a child. Like, if someone took the appearance of an Uchiha and gave them the disposition of one of them. He is Lost. Was following a map, that they all wanna grab because oooh they wanna learn how it works and make their Own! Sentient Map! Give! 

But? The child? Mentions that some ghosts can break through the bounds of this reality? Can get back to the land of the living? They just need? To figure out which direction to go in? And anyone knows, you give the Uzumakis even the slightest chance of success, and they will all take hold like a small angry dog. 

It is Chaos. The dead have risen. The entire Uzumaki clan are back- again! Unkillable! Can fly! Can go through walls. Invisible! And that’s just the basics! They are vicious, petty, angry bastards that need no sleep! Will be taking all their stolen stuff back now!

Have formed an alliance with the Uchiha ghosts, who are pissed. It is an unholy thing of explosions and spite.

The more you think about it, the most pressing question about Fenoglio's Inkheart isn't "who in the hell was the protagonist of it?" (it's either Cosimo, the Prince, or, y'know, the guy the literal title refers to - or all three of them), but rather "what in the raging hell was the Shadow's deal?" considering he was immortal, implied to be invincible, could only be destroyed by being rewritten, and as much of an asshole as his boss to the point where you wonder how this guy was dealt with in-story unless the ending saw Capricorn not just get away with everything but also win

re: the ableism in Dot and Bubble

I understand it almost certainly wasn't Rusty's intention for the "can't walk without the arrows" thing to be ableist, but the implications are there and it was so, so hard to watch.

As I said while liveblogging, I've noted that reliance on tech like Google Maps has caused a regression in skills like navigation and a frustrating refusal to even try. I'm frequently faced with that fact as I live somewhere you have to use your eyes to see and most fast food delivery drivers just Cannot Find Us bc the GPS goes wild and they can't follow the directions I always give them so I inevitably have to go out to find them myself. Believe me, I know what he was going for with that part of the script.

However.

When you exaggerate that point to the tune of "she literally cannot walk" without the aid, and then instead of it being deeply disturbing to the two 'kind, helpful' characters (Doc n Ruby), they actively roll their eyes at her and it's played as an "omg how stupid is she" moment, you have to see how that looks.

Let's reframe it: someone you've met was raised in a cult. A very insular, very strict cult that they literally have never seen outside of. At this point in time you know nothing about them but you do know they're in a very insular, very closed-off society. One day they tell you they have no idea how to,,,,,, idk, wash themselves without assistance. If your first instinct is to laugh at them and roll your eyes like they're overexaggerating, you're an ableist.

I struggle to believe anyone like the Doctor wouldn't perhaps initially react with confusion/incredulity but then, after realising this person is 100% serious, go "oh my god that's horrible okay uh let me try to walk you through this and teach you how".

It's a horrible, cynical response that would maybe track if at this point the characters already knew she was an entitled pissbaby. But they don't and that's why it comes across so terribly.

Especially when there's no indication that this is a side-effect of her entitlement and she's literally insulting herself "I'm so stupid!" and genuinely upset and frustrated that she can't even walk in the face of actual death. And yes, she miraculously can walk again once she meets Ricky but it wasn't because she was ignoring the Doctor's advice because racism because he had not given her any. She had literally zero clue how to walk without assistance until Ricky guided her.

This isn't a refusal to learn a skill based on entitlement, this isn't a heavy-handed metaphor, you have given this girl a disability (even if it is psychosomatic, it is still a disability). And in a time where social media + youth entitlement is being blamed for an increase of ADHD, Autism, chronic illness and DID diagnosis-seekers (among other things, but those are the ones people are most aggressive against) that just does not look good At All.

Russel could easily have made it so that they just had no idea how to navigate without the bubble and refused to learn.

Maybe at first show it as genuine frustration on Lindy's part that she can't find anything without guidance but slowly show that no, she's perfectly capable, she just doesn't care to learn.

Hell, you could have everything play out the same way but have her genuinely get offered help to begin with by the Doctor and ignore it, only for Ricky to say the same thing to her later and she gets it immediately.

Idk, anything beyond literally disabling her. The show does a great job at humanising her before showing us that she was a monster all along, but I feel like Rusty himself forgot that he was still representing a Whole Entire Person (something that people on all ends of the political spectrum do All The Time: "person is bad therefore [___ism] is okay in this instance". Ableism especially)

He's like. Genuinely unsettling. Wish the show struck a better balance with his character sometimes (like sometimes when he's onscreen I have to skip over because I feel queasy and sometimes he's so unsubtle he feels more like a prop than a guy who's going to be a Huge Deal in s2)

For all the foreground of s2 is a bizarre triple-pairing romcom, there’s such a shadow of looming disaster over them all. The threat of Heaven and Hell shows up with Gabriel and whatever has reduced him to this helpless, hapless creature. Bizarrely charming as Jim was to me, I never thought I would be so unnerved by the absence of his smarminess. It really appears they declawed him.

And then when we find out he did it to himself instead (barely in time), it’s hardly comforting — not with Heaven and Hell springing up around his haven, making clear they’re only ever a thought away. Even his glad escape with his demon at the end is made amid the warning that they will find him, and when they do, his fragile little happiness is over. He only has a choice for a day.

After s1 ended with the promise that “the Big One” was still to come — “all of us against all of them” — it could hardly have been otherwise. Heaven and Hell weren’t defeated, only temporarily put off. But the revelation of Metatron as the manager and apparent mastermind of The Big One has really brought the threat into focus. Aziraphale and Crowley have no time. He isn’t willing to let them stop him again. He wants this finished, and he’s willing to do whatever it takes, including speaking for God and hijacking Heaven’s entire hierarchy. Hell’s already pledged Crowley their retaliation; had Metatron not interrupted Heaven’s warning, Aziraphale would have been left with the same sort of problem. That’s as much as I expected, and it would have been bad enough.

But this is worse: now Metatron has the angel. And now that Aziraphale is well away from everyone who knows and loves him, the threat has gotten so much sharper. If they can’t unmake his loyalties, they can unmake his mind. And there will be no one left to tell him that this isn’t who he is, or was. He could be another Jim (or Muriel, if the theory that their mind was unmade too is right). He could be banished to a silent room for a 39th scrivener — or he could find his way back to Earth. All I can hope is that if he loses himself, he’ll make it to the bookshop. There’s still an angel there who loves the world, or is beginning to; and a street full of people who remember who he is, their guardian and Crowley’s angel.

I think he's very firmly a dog person. I don't think he minds cats, necessarily, but he probably likes the loyalty and companionship that come with a well-trained dog better than the fickleness of most cats, since the latter tends to remind him of Sibylla's less admirable traits. I imagine his doggos love him well in return, internally going "Ah, our human is asserting dominance again!" whenever they hear him bark at Guy, lol. They're spoilt as all hell but Tiberias pretends to be annoyed at their antics whenever there are people around.

Snapping on my shipping goggles. 'If' The Dreaming comics have to be canon then this for me is THE Corinthiel moment. This is when they realise it's love and they're the one. The fact the Corinthian is abscent from the Dreaming when everything goes down is so relevant. They're still both relatively young here, at a point where establishing their individual identities, separate from their predecessors must have been the most challenging. And the very moment the Corinthian is gone, (The only being who can really empathise with and aid Daniel in this plight). Daniel's memories of Dream overwhelm him and he immediately reverts to following in his predecessors behavior patterns. He's desperate for love and goes looking for it in all the wrong places. When it's RiGHT THERE waiting for him. It's such a Morpheus thing to do it pains me. I know the comic implies there's a measure of sorcerery in Daniel pursuit of Ivy Walker. But even so, I'm going to fanatically stand my ground that if Cori hadn't been off on a side quest at this formative point of Daniel's reign, none of this would have happened. The moment The Corinthian is gone Daniel looses his grip on HIMSELF.

So the moment the Corinthian returns and finds out what's gone down is a pivotal point in Cori 2.0s development for me. He's presented with a very similar senario to the one his predecessor once faced... Dream 'imprisoned' by occultists and the taste of freedom. And instead of bemoaning missed opportunities, he goes apoplectic. His fury is a declaration of absolute loyalty in itself. And his incensed rage at the thought of loosing Daniel, of someone touching what is HIS, a revelation of love. And here's the thing, even at this youthful stage as Dream, there's no way the Corinthian could hurt Daniel without Daniel allowing it. But he does. He allows Cori to shash that cursed mark from his skin. To vent all that fear, and rage and brand him anew. Mark him as his. This is Daniel's, he's the one, he's always been the one moment of realisation. It's the most fucked up version of 'I love you' 'I know' in the history of existence. And it's so unapologetically them.
