tanner greyton (scrutinized) - niche fandom alert! this guy is another top contender for meow meow to me because he's like. the guy ever. cheery disposition stalker and (alleged) serial killer? he literally has a scare in the game where he pops up on your camera feed waving his hands like wallace talking about cheese. he also says, and i quote, "well, this is awkward" before one of his kills. literal GO WHITE BOY GO energy.

black noir (the boys; tv version) - if earving has no fans i am dead. he has been wronged from the beginning (forced into a masked superhero identity because of racism and the profitability of the corporation he worked for, all the while being abused by said corporation's poster child superhero at the time) and who, from childhood, has vividly imagined and interacted with the characters from the in-universe equivalent to chuck e cheese to cope with moments of emotional stress.

How I wish Nandor's character had evolved :

So I've had this post in mind for a while... I don't particularly like the trend Nandor has followed of being a "pathetic" character

Maybe I've had the wrong perception of the character all along, either way it's the writers of the show who are right, but I think they really missed an opportunity with Nandor

Let me explain :

When I started watching wwdits in 2019, my favorite character was Nandor, yeah Nandor. I didn't give a shit about the Rinaldi at that time.

I was a fan of Nandermo and really enjoyed the relationship between Nandor and Guillermo

But I think Nandor in the last two seasons has become "too" pathetic, I feel like fans love it, to see a seemingly imposing and terrifying man act like a princess in distress (like Ed in Ofmd) but I think it's really taken the charm out of Nandor

I loved Nandor because he's emotionally constipated, he's a fucking dense brick, he still had that fierce "ancient Ottoman warrior" aura, he still had dignity.

Or at least he was trying to maintain this statue

But rn I find Nandor's evolution just weird, he's still not in phase with his emotions, but now it's just embarrassing to watch how he's going out of his way for Guillermo

True. But Nandor can very well be SUBTLE in this case.

The beauty of Nandor is that he was subtle about his feelings towards Guillermo, they were simple delicate gestures that spoke for themselves (The glitter portrait, for example)

That's why I loved seeing Nandor, in season 4, covering Guillermo with his jacket, gently patting his head after :

Because Guillermo was asleep !

Nandor showed his emotions at a time when he knew he wouldn't look vulnerable in front of Guillermo, an act of love.

In opposition, I hated the scene where he pretends to get fucked on the piano - I thought it was ridiculous and awkward

I think I have this opinion of Nandor probably because I had an emotionally constipated Arab father, and I think it would have been interesting to have saved that vibe for Nandor lol

(btw I know Nandor is Persian and not Arab, and I know it's not the same ofc, but I'm referring to this in terms of the similarity of cultures)

I like the idea of : "A former warrior, who lived a hard upbringing, who is a "man" then who is not supposed to "show his emotions" and so do so only with simple gestures"

Now I just get the impression that Nandor is an overexcited high-schooler with a crush

I probably regret the fact that Nandor is indeed no longer a fierce warrior, but the remnants of the man he once was

And, not to say Jesse isn't a poor little meow meow (he is a very poor little meow meow] but I have a rock solid, extremely unbiased (no bias at all) argument for why anakin is the poorer little meow meow using the criteria for voting, which includes scrunchiness, miserability, and bad choices.

Anakin is-

Scrunchier than jesse: I mean look at him! He's a sopping wet piece of old newspaper left behind a dumpster in the rain that somehow survived being dipped in lava. He is p a t h e t i c, he is being gaslit gatekept girl bossed by an old man he is

More miserable than jesse: now you can say a lot about how miserable jesse is but has he gotten his limbs chopped off and his torso roasted in lava after strangling his wife who he just wanted to protect? Has he spent 20 years suffering inside a life support suit where it hurt him to breathe? Has he tried protecting those he cared about (in a very messed up way) only to ultimately lose them all bc of his own stupidity?? I think not

He made the worst choices: I'm not even gna compare him to jesse bc anakin just made the worst choices. If you made him choose between red and blue he would choose genocide. He has committed two genocides btw (3 if you count the literal planet he was passively involved in destroying). How many genocides has Jesse committed? Yeah, I didn't think so. Also how many children has jesse murdered? Anakin has annihilated a kindergartens worth of children who knew and trusted him. He betrayed the people who took him in from the time he was nine and raised him and trusted him. And he didn't even do it in a fit of passion. He continued terrorising the galaxy for the next two decades! He is the worst!! His life is a series of bad choices!!

From my precise arguments it is clear that although Jesse is undoubtedly very scrunchy and miserable and he made terrible choices, he is up against the poorest little meow meow to even exist!

Anakin is pathetically scrunchy, incredibly miserable and objectively a terrible person. He deserves the title of poor little meow meow.

He also DMed both of those emotionally devastating projects, and this writing is kind of the result of him giving me Smokers Outside the Hospital Doors as a prompt, but I am not using that as a quote here because, uh...]

Three Days Grace - Tell Me Why

He looks down at the tear on his thumb, little drop of water mixing with the water from the ice cold lake that washes some of Marlowe’s blood of his skin.

“That’s new as well,” he mutters to himself, before he takes the sword in both hands and storms back to the shore, towards the hordes of demons rushing for him.

Aberrant asked him to cover their retreat, and he is more than happy to oblige. At least the resistance of the flesh and bones he hacks through, the steaming hot or frozen cold or rotting blood splattering on him, the bodies hitting the ground, feel right, even though the sword is unfamiliar in his hands, the sword that has killed him sixty-seven times, and the wounds his enemies inflict on him for once isn’t the only pain he feels.

Right now, as he decimates the attackers, Marlowe is escaping, and Dex with him. Away from this place. Away from him. To safety, if the god keeps its end of the bargain. The pain lying in that thought cuts deeper than any blade or magic attack. It’s a pain he hasn’t known in years. And he loves it.

He loves the pain because it is the only thing he has left, the only thing that feels real. Because the wounds in his body remind him that he has a body, and the hole that seems to be torn from his heart reminds him that he still has a heart, as unlikely as it seems, and the tears in his eyes remind him that there might still be some shred of humanity left to him.

But there isn’t, of course.

The pain is fading. He knew that would happen. It always faded. Like when he feels the excitement drain from his body moments after a murder, until an hour later it is all gone, or when his wounds stop stinging until he barely notices them; when, gradually, the whole world seems to fade from his view again, moving away, leaving him just an empty husk again.

He tries to cling on to it, tries to keep the worst of the pain in his mind and heart, like pushing a weapon deeper into a wound. He forces himself to remember, while the memories still mean something: The weight of Marlowe’s body as he carried him out to the water. Aberrant telling him to let go. How powerless he felt as he handed over Dex to it as well.

Those memories hurt, but not enough.

And he thinks of Dexter telling him to do the right thing before disappearing again. He thinks of Marlowe’s hands grasping for him as he sank into the waves. How much he wanted to pull him back up, drag him out of the water. The pain of letting go.

The words “It can only get better from here, even if it’s just that you won’t be there”, which Marlowe didn’t mean like that, but maybe he did, but maybe he didn’t (but even if he didn’t, he was right).

The enemies are thinning out, their corpses scattered across the shore, their blood dyeing the ground and the water a sick and beautiful color. He keeps swinging the sword at the remaining ones, desperately trying to get some last satisfaction out of the kills.

And then he’s alone. Surrounded by corpses, he falls to his knees. The tears are gone. The pain is gone. He is empty. He is alone. He feels nothing.

He lost the only two people he could feel something for. And now that they are gone, the world around him seems to move in, move closer, almost strangling him. In the material plane, the world he came from, he always felt like he was strangely removed from everything and everyone. Taking all his effort to even notice what was around him. Violence as the only way to connect to it.

But this place is different. When he had Dex and Marlowe, he could ignore it, but now there is no way of denying it. That he is a part of this place, and that this place is just like him: bleak, and cold, and violent. There may be some signs that there once might have been something like life here, a long time ago, but not anymore.

No wonder they wanted to get away from it. He’s wanted to get away from it for years.

Maybe that’s how it was always supposed to go. Maybe he belongs here.

He looks down at the sword.

But that would be meaningless, wouldn’t it? Even if he didn’t just get brought back, like all the times before, what use would dying be while he has nothing but emptiness inside him? He always thought (or anticipated?) that he would die in battle, adrenaline in his blood and Dex in his hands. He doesn’t want to die like this.

He gets up, walks out of the cavern, looking for something to kill. Another fight, another murder, another body hitting the floor in front of him

He fights until all his enemies lay dead before him on the ground, then goes out looking for another fight. Fights until he is covered in layer upon layer of blood. Whose, he can’t say. He fights until his body finally gives in and he falls to the ground, only to get up hours later, unable to tell if he was dead in the time between. Then looks for the next fight, his next assignment. His masters aren’t pleased with him, letting Marlowe get away, but what does he care, he just asks for his next assignment, another fight, another bloodbath, another fight…

He can’t tell if he’s the Abyss’ most efficient hitman or most pathetic suicide commando. He knows there are orders, but they won’t stick to his mind. Nagging voices, but they don’t belong to Dex or Marlowe, so why should he care? All he cares about is finding new enemies to slay, new blood to spill, new bodies to mutilate, so maybe he can find even a fraction of an emotion in the broken parts he leaves behind. Just like in the old military days, huh?

The emptiness around him is as cruel as the emptiness inside him.

He wants to see Dexter again. For just a brief moment, Aberrant showed him to him again, like it did when he had entered its realm. His voice was too calm, too patient, too understanding for a dying man facing his murderer. Encouraging him to make the right choice.

Why didn’t he touch him then, why didn’t he kiss him, why was his first instinct always to throw himself at him and hurt him? He knows the answer. It is the same reason he could never be with Marlowe for more than a day without hurting him.

He wants Marlowe back. He wants him to take his sword back and impale him on it, and spew in his face that he hates him.

He doesn’t regret his choice. He knows it was the right one. The only right decision he has made in years. He still wishes he could take it back. He wants to be with Marlowe, or Dexter, or both. He wants them to take him in their arms. He wants to cry while they hold him. But he knows that even if he could be with them, all he would be able to think about as they held him would be how much he wanted to hurt them. He can’t even cry. He wishes he could. He wishes he could feel all that despair and sorrow and anguish that he knows he should be feeling, that he knows are somewhere inside him, and he wishes he could cry all of that out.

He doesn’t want to die like this, empty and emotionless and alone. He doesn’t want to be like this anymore.

He wants to live, that’s what he always wanted, that is the reason he’s done horrible things, murdered countless innocent people. Because it makes him feel alive. And that is selfish, of course it is, but what has selflessness ever brought him?

It was selfless to let go of Marlowe, his first selfless act in ages. It was selfless to give Dex away, a selfless promise to become better, fix at least some of this mess he has gotten himself into. But it was a stupid promise, one he could never keep, and everyone knows it.

He wants to go back. Back to the man he used to be before he died and left any good things there ever were to him on the battlefield where his brains had spread on the ground. Or, if that’s too much to ask, he wants to go back to that night when he finally told Dexter what had happened to him. And instead of taking up the axe and killing him, he wants to let Dexter comfort him and tell him it’s all going to be alright, they are going to find a solution, and maybe they really will.

He wants to go back, start again, undo his mistakes. He wants to be himself again.

But that wouldn’t work, would it? If he has proven anything over the past years, then that the only thing he can do is make the same mistakes over and over again. Dexter was always going to die at his hands.

Aberrant said Dexter would be proud of him. But he doubts it. There is nothing to be proud of. He made two selfless decisions that were just amends for his past mistakes, and already he wants to take them back. Already he can’t take it anymore. Already he has given in to his worst instincts. Deep down, in a place of his mind he doesn’t dare to admit exists, he knows Dexter – the real Dexter, not any of the images he might have of him – would hate him, like Marlowe hates him. They both have good reason to.

So, what is another mistake in the tower he has built up over the years? Let’s face it, there’s no way he’ll ever be worthy of Dex, or get out of his deal here. So why should he try? Why shouldn’t he just get him back in his own way? It’s not like Dex is here to tell him that’s a bad idea.

When he gets sent to his next assignment in the material plane, instead of following his orders and killing the people he is supposed to, he starts looking for a way back into the realm of Aberrant, to demand back what is his.

There isn’t anyone who actually believed even for a second that he could be better, is there?

and it gets really fun because butcher is still going to be trying to care for him and will probably try to like, scold him or whatever BUT. i assume they both have the same kind of super-strength. butcher's got the laser eyes. hughie has... teleportation...? it's not the same as a-train's power because of the clothes. the fact he has to be naked is a fun nod to invisalign or whatever his name was btw. i like that. but in a fight, if it came to a physical altercation... butcher can basically only kill him, and he's not gonna do that. hughie can beat the shit out of him or whatever else he's gonna do and unless butcher literally cuts him in half with fire there's actually nothing he can really do to fight back

really it's less about the physical violence and more that hughie no longer being in need of protection, stepping out of that role and harbouring quite a bit of resentment over it, that's what's gonna hurt.

But he's too often overshadowed by other characters, and I think it's a shame.

Silver! He's always been my fav. He's at that sweet spot in between "a sorta chill dude who just kinda wants to live his life", "someone please get this poor guy some therapy", and "he could probably murder me in an instant and only his own moral code prevents this." He was a little angsty and cringey when he was 12, but weren't we all?

Does he even have a place to live, or is he just crashing with Gold? Wouldn't he be an adult by now? Does he have to pay taxes? Does he have a job? Or is he still, like, living in abandoned shacks and sleeping on piles of leaves? I worry about him sometimes.

I only put Gold here because he has high likelihood of being pathetic but only because of his own actions. I'm just saying that he strikes me as the type of person who would get himself trapped in a chimney, and while he probably had a super valid reason, he's still trapped there and the chimney has to go down to get him out. Or, like, he gets some milk. But he keeps traveling and it's been weeks and it's gone bad. Like, I feel for him, but he's the cause of his own problems. His chaotic energy brought this upon himself and honestly I relate.

This might surprise you but! I think about Vi a lot, and have been defending her from fandom shitty takes in my own mind, lately. In my own mind I say, cuz I really have no patience to care enough to retort fandom shitty takes. Hmmmm! I think that's Viktor, for me. He puts me in a loop of "Must defend him / bastard, unpleasant, lonely, little man / I want that twink obliterated" kind of thoughts. Speaking more seriously, as someone who was the smart kid from a working class background, who was also deeply lonely as well and who managed to go to the best Uni we have around here, Viktor inspires me. I relate to him a lot, including in his loneliness as a child, his hope to do good for his community with his education and work, his spiraling of nights awake working, obsessive "productive cycles", having like one friend total, managing to get into high places cuz others saw potential on him after years of only him believing in himself, and of not looking for his own health by the minute it seems like the one person who cared for him, doesnt care anymore.

That's also Sky Young, for me. We got to see her on Viktor's flashback, and while this was also an interesting way to connect her place on Viktor's life and background, it does gets me thinking a lot about her, in general. She came from the Undercity, also had a brilliant mind and a research she was working on. She was very cute on her way of romantically approaching Viktor and pleasant to watch, overall.

The fact that Arcane fridged her for Viktor's man pain is one of the reasons why Arcane doesnt really get all that many points with me. Fridging the original black woman character for man's pain is not good, doesnt matter how engaging the man character in question is. This is also my Hot Take, folks. I'm not wrong. I said what I said. and btw they better not do the same thing with Mel.
