something about the way guilt is portrayed in beyond evil. guilt as a state, guilt as a place you're condemned to. 'i will go to hell' 'life is hell' 'you shouldn't even set foot in that hell' but it's not really the hell we think of, not in the traditional sense. hell is where you're supposed to be sent to suffer and repent forever but all of them go there willingly. (that's why han kihwan will never end up there as juwon wants because he feels no remorse over his actions) they choose to stay and let it scorch the life out of them until all that's left is someone hollow and brittle, real person buried beneath the surface in a grave they themselves dug. in that way it's not lee changjin or the water that killed nam sangbae. it's guilt. that's what doomed him in the end. that hell of his own making he never managed to escape. and as he drowned, he probably thought he deserved that too. jeongje's still there until the end but so much of him died long ago. he's a ghost haunting himself. he tells juwon 'if you don't get out quickly, every breath, every moment of your life becomes a nightmare' if you stay that hell alone long enough, that's what happens. at a certain point you can't wake up anymore. you forget how to leave

#there are these parallels between nsb jj and jw #how both of them give him advice that comes from experience #'don't do this you'll regret it' 'don't do this there's no coming back from it' and both times he doesn't listen and ends up just like them #jw's almost a ghost in the beginning like jj but ds and manyang yank him back to life #and then ds doesn't let jw become another nsb he refuses to let him stay in that hell alone he says as much #i think ds learned how to claw his way out a long time ago #what he says in ep14 #'wouldn't regret be a luxury for me'#a luxury #he understands that guilt at its most extreme is ultimately self serving #because it keeps you in this woe me state where you become so obsessed with your own failure that everything else gets drowned out by it #ds does the opposite he decenters himself in his mind focuses on the pain of others instead of his own #'this is how he makes himself happy' this is how he survives #he knows that wallowing in guilt won't do any good won't change anything what's done is done he accepts it #he says 'if i could go back i WOULD do the same thing again because that's all he could ever do #he did what he thought was right at the time now he has to live with it #nsb can't figure that out can't accept his mistakes can't move on from them so he's stuck in the past #he dies stuck in the past #'you want to cry aloud for your mistakes but to tell the truth the world doesn't need any more of that sound' you know?#that i think is the point in the end #but does that ever fuck you up how jj nsb and jw (for a while) are driven by guilt but ds always acts out of love #he has so much of it despite everything #and juwon only surivives because he starts acting out of love and care and devotion instead of shame and remorse #beyond evil

It's interesting just how telling the characters' moods are just by looking at their eyes alone

Sua is passive, and distant, seemingly in a daydream. Ivan is stoic but resolved, Till has an angry sort of look, and Mizi looks determined

But something that I find even more interesting, Is that Sua, Ivan and Till are all their past selves. The people they were minutes before their respective rounds. but Mizi is the only one in her present form. is this because she was the first to make it out of Alien stage? or is this because she will be the only one to make it out of Alien stage at the end of it all? Just a thought.

I had a draft on here about Ivan joining the rebellion and growing his hair out long!! ROUND 6 released and absolutely DASHED my hopes of course but it was nice to look back on how blindly optimistic I was haha.... ha....

Anyways. Yes. Ivan with long hair. I think he'd look good with it in a low ponytail maybe... or braided hair.... I've seen AUs where Ivan stayed in the slums and he absolutely rocks a mullet. It's a shame Unsha and Nigeh are so keen on keeping their pets well groomed and proper (Ivan and Sua's hair is so perfectly cut and it stayed that way for basically their whole lives). Ivan with a mullet... Sua with the same hair length she had in the angel/devil art with Mizi.... wah..... they'd look so good.

I think a lot about the fact that Till is so fixated on Mizi's long hair and I wonder if he'd start growing fond of Ivan's hair too if he grew it out (Till braiding flowers into Ivan's hair and insisting it's just practice even though he adjusts the style into something he thinks would fit Ivan specifically... Ivan feeling warm at the touch of Till's hands in his hair.... aauuuuooiighhh)

lol I just remembered that Nico was in fact born in 1932 so here’s 2 ideas I have for y’all.

He was born around 1932 in Italy aka the time a certain Benito Mussolini was in charge. He was there till shortly before the war. He also grew up during a time of economic depression and also preparing for another war and in a fascist regime. He is definitely going to need to adjust to the time and although it might be easy to forget and un learn some things he’d probably have slight food scarcity issues or maybe panic whenever a person brings up the government. (Because if you critique it you’d get in big trouble)

Again he was born in 1932 and has a boyfriend who is a medic, if you don’t see where I’m going with this let me explain. He doesn’t have the modern day medicine quite under wraps yet he wouldn’t even have had a polio vaccine y'all. He’d probably say some stupid stuff when he was near by will when a camper complained that they couldn’t feel there arm, like it’s comedic gold. Like he would have probably scene or heard of polio survivors during his life time. Antibiotics weren’t popular. Like y’all need to ad this to fics more.

toying with the idea of making yancey's friends not real. would that be too evil

#personal #hear me out. the diner is a mimic and it's toying with the entire town and making people oblivious and just. stuck in time metaphorically #it's known to make people hallucinate it's known to show things that aren't there. it can fuck with technology #yancey has. problems. he's sick with grief and pain and regret and sorrow from his past moving into a strange new town #and there's all these people there in the diner and they all remind him of some part of his life #stevie quite literally reminds him of his ex but stuck in the state before anything happened. stevie is a constant reminder of like #what could have been had they not crossed the line of getting together #his relationship with daphne (friendship mostly but he has a little crush on her at some point) is like #the romanticized version of the life he had in mind for him and his ex. yeah he gets a little bit insane with it but he loves very deeply #freddy is what he wished for his older brother to be like. their friendship is what he wishes he and his brother would be like #rafiq is basically yancey's ideal partner. yukiko reminds him of his younger sister #hell even teddy is connected to him because he and teddy are basically the same person. dealing with a situation very poorly #but teddy WOULD be real since he is part of CALAMITY so his connection to yancey if anything is like. on purpose #he is SUPPOSED to mirror yancey because that will make yancey realize things about himself #that only leaves morrigan as the only other real person in all of this. because she is the only one not connected to the diner #(freddy isn't either but since he's first introduced on the radio as radio host he is sort of connected to the town)#(in like a way the diner could influence that too. you know what i'm saying)#and morrigan's whole deal is that she's so so stuck in the past. trying to get back what is no more. and daphne is her sister #so daphne could even be a manifestation of yancey's and morrigan's shared grief #for yancey the romanticized relationship with his ex. for morrigan her sister who died in the wildfires #are you seeing my vision. the diner is defeated and it's just yancey morrigan and teddy. it's always been #no one else has been real the whole time. they've only interacted with one another or yancey. never with teddy or morrigan #(with exception of daphne who would have interacted with morrigan bc of shared manifestation)#and yancey acts like the others have never existed. because they haven't. and now that he's no longer #under the influence of the diner. he doesn't remember. haha #idk if i wanna go with this because some of them aren't as solidified as concepts as others but man. I keep thinking about how Slappy is green in the patrick show and yellow in the main series. That's not really an unusual thing since side characters change colors often in this show (Perch Perkins is a good example) but I'd rather imagine the color change is a result of him dying between the events of the two shows.

However the only time you ever see him in green in the main series is in the episode There Will Be Grease where he asks if everything juice will make his voice sound more creepy.

Imagine if he just straight up died from drinking everything juice. Mr. Krabs and Plankton possibly going to jail for killing someone with their phoney product but are saved last minute because Slappy rose from the dead and was absolutely overjoyed by the product. It gave him EXACTLY what he wanted! It made him much more creepy. So the customer's happy (probably the only one happy) and Mr. Krabs and Plankton won't be put on trial for murder! It's a win win! :D
