Why do people look at me like I'm crazy for wanting to move to a cottage far from civilization somewhere deep in syberian woods or in Kazakhstan mountains with some big dogs and multiple cats when I'm around 50

I think it would be nice to have the option to hide numbers on ao3. Make it where the 'kudos' and 'hits' number is author-viewable only, have an alternate option for when a list is sorted by such so people can read things based off their tags and preferences rather than see big number go brrrr
I speak as someone with popular fics, it doesn't have to be a requirement but like, an option? This could go for other websites too, tumblr notes and the like

okay hear me out ik it’s mixing runs but still:
imagine all that stuff between joker, harley, and tim goes down: tim getting kidnapped, then brainwashed, joker junior happens, all that fun stuff and everything is the same event wise BUT tim either doesn’t kill the joker or he lives.
life moves on and tim heals as much as a vigilante can, harley leaves joker for ivy, joker still causes problems but no bat has died from him since jason and he’s still a psychopathic asshole but whatever. the thing is they keep tims past under lock and key, and none of the other bats know besides bruce and alfred.
it all comes to a head when they’re all kidnapped by joker and restrained and are losing hope by the minute for someone to save them and suddenly out of nowhere tim stills staring at something in the distance until his eyes go wide. the rest of the batfam don’t understand what’s going on until tim barks out a sharp command and two somethings come crawling out of the darkness and lo and behold it’s lou and bud (jokers hyenas) and they listen to him. they stop a bit in front of him only for tim to give another sharp command of gnaw before they’re shredding the rope. and right after they’re done, they lick his face like some overgrown puppies and tim doesn’t look like he’s enjoying it at all bc who knows who they’ve eaten. but tim gets up and unties his family and they all defeat joker before sending him off to arkham again.
this raises a series of questions like why do the hyenas listen to tim? why don’t they maul him on the spot? why are they acting like big babies and why does tim care where they go after the battle? why is he calling harley to pick them up and why does he have her number? so many questions.

In honor of Mermay I just had a THOUGHT about abyssal mer Jason.
Like, he’s such a little cutie patootie when Bruce first finds him and integrates him into his little clan consisting of an acrobatic reef mer and and older, regular shallows mer.
And Jason is so smol and cute and fits right along the curve of Bruce’s tail in a way that makes him essentially vanish from the sight of predators. And, sure, his scales look a bit sturdier and stranger than the ones they know from other species of mer. And his tail fin is a bioluminescent veil of delicate membranes he uses to lure curious little fish and eat them, not to mention his tail is about thrice as long than that of other mers. But he’s just so adorable and obviously starving that Bruce, Dick, AND Alfred all disregard the strange little things about their newest pod member adding up in favor of absolutely coddling him. Mer children are rare enough as is, having one that’s so obviously malnourished is basically a crime.
So Jason grows. A lot. And then he dies.
And then he comes back just as a couple fishermen are ecstatic over having caught a live mer, water churning, and suddenly this absolute leviathan rises up from the ocean. Easily ten times the size of the fishermen’s ship.

This is a good time to talk again about how important the relationship between the Inquisitor and Solas is, regardless if it's a romantic one or not (maybe with even more weight and clarity on Solas’ character when it’s not the romance version because there’s less of those muddy feelings).
The way their connection, the trust and respect they have for each other, form and take shape during Inquisition is so organic and meaningful. Fen’Harel is a prideful bastard who doubles down on the things he knows even if they are wrong because he thinks it’s on him to fix them, and his arrogance keeps him blind to other options. But Solas, the one that walked by the Inquisitor’s side is, at the end of Trespasser, giving the Inquisitor the chance to ‘live well while time remains.’ But he knows them, he knows that the Inquisitor won’t be spending that time running away from this. That is Solas’ way of asking for help without saying ‘Please, don’t let me be right. Please find another way. Time is all I can give, see you at the end.’
And that is one amazing and strong connection, and a proof of trust, maybe even more so if the Inquisitor is not of elven origin, but a dwarf, qunari or human.
This isn’t meant to take away something from anyone. It's just that a lot of the focus in these online conversations falls on a Lavellan relationship or a romantic relationship, and the story of the inquisitor and Solas has more nuance to it, an often less talked about one.

I want more Ted Spankoffski and Ruth Fleming interactions. Ted sees Ruth as his protégé, whom he passes on his incredible wisdom of how to be a horny bastard. Ruth takes all of his shitty dating advice as law. They speak almost exclusively in innuendo. Horny bisexual solidarity.
(secretly, Ted sees a lot of his younger self in Ruth. But no, he doesn't care for her, just like he doesn't love Pete at all. Not at all)
Pete absolutely hates it.

okay so, here's the thing. the genius of hometown is that it's the anti-country song by excellence, except it's set to a country beat. bear with me.
the "hometown" in question isn't some idyllic rural small town -- it's the urban slums of new jersey. the singer doesn't reminisce on bygone days of innocence in the sun -- she remembers the drug use, police corruption, and countless car accidents that claimed teenage lives. the star quarterback isn't a dashing young hero -- the very first verse opens with his death from an overdose, and he spends the remainder of the song playing football in heaven, perpetually 17 years old.
the song isn't an exultation of small town values or nostalgic americana. the lyrics "the american dream means staying young forever" are sinister beneath the upbeat melody, because to be remembered as the ideal all-american boy / girl next door, you have to die young enough to never become anything else -- or, alternatively, you have to stay trapped in your high school days forever, never escaping your "hometown". and the song seems to pose the question; aren't they kind of the same thing?
granted, the singer does seem to be paying tribute to those days and to the countless young people she grew up with who never got to grow old -- davey from the football team serving as the prime example -- but it's more of an elegy than an ode. it's in mourning, not in admiration.
and all of this grime and grit is set to the sunny, lighthearted strings of a country-esque guitar and a twangy lilt, to the point that, for someone who isn't paying attention to the lyrics, this song could just as easily blend in with the very music it's criticizing.

Besides the fact that Im delusion about Eddie Munson coming back, I wanna add that if he doesn't, the duffers kind of will establish that they are just really bad at handling characters.
What I mean by that is they have this really heavy, established pattern of new character is introduced soley for the purpose of dying? We have Bob, Chrissy, Eddie, Alexei, Barb, all of them introduced for the express purpose of being the emotional core of loss because they are too cowardly to have lasting impacts on the main cast. Im not saying that all of those people living would equal a good story, but I am saying its tiring to get the obvious, "Oh so youre the guy who dies and we will feel bad about it" thing be so damn obvious.
Eddie coming back would at least disrupt that pattern. It would be better then, "Hey everyone here is character 234B who is super fun and great, sure hope nothing happens to them🤫" and then they die so we can focus on the nancy, steve, johanthan love triangle again.
It gets boring.

Thinking again about Aloy's story, and how to me it's easy to forget how little time actually passed, and how young she is. She was an outcast for nearly twenty years, and then in the span of like two days she went from shunned to anointed. She went from the tribe hating her to relying on her with zero time to adjust, and grappling with the death of her guardian at the same time, but she just faces it down like "fine, let's do this." Which is kind of her defining trait, getting crisis after crisis thrown at her over and over again, each one bigger and more dangerous than the last, and no matter what she just rolls up her sleeves and says bring it on.
And all of these problems happen in such a short span of time. At the end of forbidden west, only two years had passed since she left the Embrace. That's crazy. Two years since she was an outcast who couldn't even speak to anyone except a stoic guardian, a trader who doesn't want to be seen with her, and a crazy old lady who doesn't talk back. No wonder she's uncomfortable being called savior and Champion and stuff
Meanwhile the adults around her look to her for guidance and leadership, like she hasn't been an adult for a few years at most. I mean of course she gets frustrated when her companions struggle to take in all the information when they first get focuses, she's had hers longer but she had to learn all of this in a short time too. Except when she learned it she had to delve into ancient ruins and evade crazed cultists trying to kill her in order to do it, while they get to sit in the base going through files. Don't get me wrong she loves her friends, but her reluctance to have to explain everything is pretty reasonable imo

I was thinking about how Hannigram’s love language is violence, but Hannibal doesn’t have any scars from Will and I was thinking actually, maybe it makes sense that he doesn’t.
Hannibal is fine with the fact that he loves Will. He mentions it’s inconvenient, but at the end of the day he accepts that he loves him. So Will has a lot of scars from him.
But Will doesn’t accept or even know that he loves Hannibal for a long time. Being in love with Hannibal goes against the person he’s always trying to be, so he tries to suppress it/ignore it/get rid of it. The only time we ever see Will lay a violent hand on Hannibal is in his fantasies. But he never actually does it.
Hannibal has scars from Matthew Brown, who Will obviously sent to kill him, but I don’t count those because Will didn’t do it himself. I know Will was in jail at the time, but I see this as a way for Will to try to pawn his feelings off to someone else since he knows he can’t act on them even if he wasn’t in jail. Being violent with Hannibal would be like admitting he loves him, so he gets someone else to do it.
I think if the show had continued, we might’ve finally seen Hannibal be scarred by Wills hand since their relationship fundamentally shifts after the fall. Will could’ve accepted that he loved him and, therefore, scarred him.

All this Simon reading got me thinking about how instead of waiting for him to come home the role reversed and he’s now waiting for you to come home. Let’s say you went gonna work trip and had been gone a month away. He didn’t think much of it except that he ended up coming back 2 weeks earlier and now he’s here waiting for you. He goes to the airport to pick you up and it feels weird. He’s not used to being on this side of it. He’s pacing around, checking the times your plane lands, he’s fidgeting with his jacket.
By the time your plane lands, the fidgeting has gone from messing with his jacket to overthinking why he’s here in the first place. What possessed him to come pick you up? He’s surprising you.
But then, as soon as he sees you coming out of the gate, your eyes darting around to make a path towards your luggage, he calms down. He stands a little taller to make himself noticeable, and it works because your eyes dart straight to him. He’s so recognizable— leather jacket, mask over his face, gloved hands. Your smile creeps up over your face, and you can feel your face heat up and flood your face.
But seeing your smile and how there’s more of a pep in your step, you sort of jog to him the last final steps, then awkwardly stand there because you’re unsure of either hugging him or tackling him. Makes him blush underneath the mask and he’s now flustered, heart racing, and he bends down into your neck burying himself there, as you giggle about ‘why didn’t you tell me you were coming?!’ And he just mumbles ‘just thought I would surprise ya’
