Sal's snippets #12 part 2
She would repel the attack and sink back into the shadows and try to find out just who had planned this, she knew that it wasn't going to be easy, but the stability of Hell depended on it and she couldn't fail.
"I will help to repel the attack, I know that you don't want me here dad and I respect that. But this? We have no idea how big the attack will be and despite my best efforts I have no idea who has planned this, someone powerful is protecting them and keeping them concealed and that means that we have no idea what we are dealing with. Do they have angelic weapons? Are they going to attack the hotel directly? There are too many variables and in order to defend the hotel? You'll need as many hands as possible." A frown began to tug at her dad's lips, it was clear that he didn't like it. But they didn't have an option, she had sent the majority of her agents to try and infiltrate the demons behind this. Most of them had gone dark and she wasn't expecting to hear from them any time soon and that meant that she only had a limited capacity of agents left. "It is not that I don't want you to be here, you are my daughter and as such it is my job to protect you. You are all I have and I won't let anyone take you from me, you being here? It isn't something that I have thought about before. But you are right, just as I know that I cannot be there to protect you all the time. But Sarah, you are my daughter, I will always worry about you. No matter how old you get, you will still be my little princess." For a few moments neither of them said anything, she took a step forward and launched herself at him, he caught her with a huff and hugged her close. Their jobs had always kept them busy and he knew that they didn't spend as much time together as they used to, part of it was due to the hotel and the band of misfits that lived in it. Some part of him wanted to mix the two parts of his life together, but at the same time, he was wary. Lucifer lived in the hotel. Lucifer who he had regularly argued and fought with, he had dropped a piano on the King of Hell and while he had seen any retribution yet, he couldn't rule it out. "Mind if I crash here with you?" Alastor's heart thumped in his chest, it had been years since she had crawled into bed with him, the last time she had done so, she had been a teenager suffering from constant nightmares and the only way for her to sleep was to sleep in his bed. "Of course not." A smile lit up her face and he watched as a rucksack appeared, he raised an eyebrow at her. She merely smiled and began to undress. His eyes drifted to the large scar on her back, it went diagonally down her back and it had been one of the few times that he had come close to losing her. It was also why he had decided that he would keep her hidden and safe. He had never found out who had attacked her and despite his best efforts they had remained hidden from him. Not that it mattered, he would find them. Eventually. "I am going to grab a few hours of sleep." She had turned around and he caught sight of the scar that ran across her neck, Alastor had a list of people that the would get revenge on and none of them had anything to do with him. "Night dad." She kissed him on his cheek and climbed into his bed, he watched as she placed her glasses on the side and close her eyes, he watched her for a few minutes to make sure that she was asleep before he left the room. As he walked through the hotel he caught sight of many demons and demonesses nodding at him and he knew that they were his daughter's agents, he had no idea what the next three days would bring, but he hoped that whoever was behind this was prepared. Because it was going to be a blood bath.

Samuel soon exhausted all his social energy and excused himself to walk back to his flat alone. Draco knew better than try to walk back with him. Once Samuel’s social battery was empty, he became a bit of a bitch, which was fair enough. They all had their limits.
Draco stayed in that little nothing park for a while longer until the silence began to make him restless.
He apparated to Hogsmeade to rent an owl; he preferred the small village to Diagon. The streets were wider, and as long as the Hogwart’s students weren’t visiting, it tended to be quieter.
Draco went to the owlery and argued with the clerk about the value of muggle money versus the three knuts it cost to use a mail owl. Draco did not win the argument because the clerk was an idiot. They were quite sure that two pence coins had the same value as a knut because they were both copper coins of about the same size. Draco was fairly certain that two pence was worth fuck-all but gave up trying to convince them. He knew he’d be blamed for ‘fooling’ the clerk when the discrepancy was discovered.
Draco sent a message to Jarold about meeting up later that night to hang out. He decided to wait for Jarold’s response at Potter’s flat, getting Chinese take-out and watching random programs on the tv. It was starting to get dark when an owl finally came to the window and tapped gently on the glass.
It was another hour still until he and Jarold were going to meet up, and Draco stayed in the flat. He thought about going to his old building again, seeing if anyone else was around, but instead, he stayed. It wasn’t until he was leaving that he realised he had been waiting for Potter. A glance at the clock showed how late it was. And Potter had left for work early that morning. Draco took the crumpled note out of his pocket and read it again, just to be sure. Called in early, it said.
He put the note back in his pocket and flipped off the lights. Draco drew his wand out of his back pocket and very firmly ignored the feeling of disappointment in the back of his throat as he apparated away.

Moral of The Story. Chapter One.
Tumblr media
Summary: Marrying too young out of highschool leads to a naive and failed marriage. Now 10 years later, word comes that the divorce was never actually completed. Bucky and Y/N have to come back together after all these years to settle what wasn’t all those years back. Passive attitudes, miscommunicated endings, and reminiscing of an old love all comes back for the two.
Pairing: Bucky x Y/N
Word Count: 2600+
A/N: Ok, here is the first chapter! If you have not already listened to the song that evoked this idea from my imagination land, I suggest giving it a go! Moral of the Story by Ashe. I’m excited for you guys to see what this story brings and I really hope I do it justice! As always, comments and thoughts are welcome as they help me grow as a writer and let me see what you guys notice:) ENJOY MY LOVES!!! <3
(The posting will be once every other day until I have finished the series. If I finish early, I will post an update once a day:)
Read the Prologue here first!
Chapter One:
"You already got the flight?" Nat asked, perched on Y/N's couch as she ran around frantically packing. "Don't you have a huge meeting next week with that new business? What was it called? Bee's Knees?"
"Yes, but it's not until Monday evening. I highly doubt I will be there longer than a weekend to sign a few divorce papers. I'm planning on coming back early that afternoon, so I shouldn't miss it," she answered, not even stopping to look at her as she ran through the rooms and bathroom in the apartment.
"How soon did you book that flight?"
"As soon as I hung up the phone with Murdock," Y/N sighed. Nat sent her a questioning look not knowing that name. "New lawyer. The guy who took over for the sleazeball known as Justin Hammer," she rolled her eyes.
"Right," Nat nodded. "So, are you staying at your dad's house?"
"I would take my dad's house over my mom and Jerry's any day. You know this," Y/N paused in her actions, sending her a bitch face.
"I know. Just didn't know if you'd be all fancy and rent a hotel room to escape the smothering that is bound to happen from good ol' Mr. Y/L/N," Nat grinned.
"It's been so long since I've seen him not via facetime. And we both know that's barely seeing him as he doesn't know where the camera is even after a hundred calls," she laughed.
"Parents. Either they're technologically challenged or know how to work it better than us. Never in between and it's weird." Nat watched as Y/N froze in her stance and looked lost trying to think of something else to pack. Deciding she needed a distraction, Nat changed the subject some. "Hey, did you get Melody to go on that date tomorrow?"
"Yes!" Y/N answered proudly. "I know your aunt wants grandbabies from her daughter, but that girl just needs a night on the town more than anything. She's in her early 20's and holes herself up at the office almost more than I do, and I'm the boss."
"Cousin's got my work ethic. What can I say?" Nat shrugged smugly.
"Well, she needs to get your spirit in living some too."
"Touche," Nat pointed. "I need to have Yelena take her out. She's the real party sister out of us two."
"That is true. How she's able to party for 48 hours straight and still wake up at 8 am for mimosas, blows my mind," Y/N commented on Natasha's younger sister. "She's only a few years older than Melody, right?"
"Yeah, Yelena is 24, and Melody is 22. They were best of friends growing up, but once they got to high school, they kinda went different routes about life. Lana, the party gal, and Mel the studious bookworm."
"I'm not surprised by either of those," Y/N shook her head before collapsing next to Nat on the couch. A loud breath and sigh escaped her body.
Nat watched as her mind escaped back to the original issue at hand.
"What's going on in that brain of yours, Y/N/N?" she said, softly touching her shoulder. "Not that I don't already know, but maybe letting it out will help unscramble those thoughts."
Y/N lazily rolled her head to the redhead next to her.
"How is he?" she asked.
Nat was a part of their friend group from middle school through high school. She kept up with all of them still, whereas Y/N kept up with all of them except one.
"I actually haven't talked to him in a while. Steve on the other hand..." Nat nodded. "From that source, it sounds like Barnes is just as surprised and freaked out as you."
"He's freaked out?" Y/N asked, a hint of interest peeking out.
"Who wouldn't be? You get a call from a lawyer saying your marriage is still intact after 9 years of breaking it off, I would be freaked out too."
"He deserves it. I hope he's just as freaked out as me, if not more," she responded bitterly, crossing her arms across her chest like a pouting child.
"Y/N," Nat sighed.
"No. Don't. Don't defend him to me, it's pointless," she put up a hand. "I know you're still friends with him, but you guys still don't understand the pain that that man brought on me."
"He fought for you, Y/N. He didn't mean-," Nat countered.
"Again, you're wasting your breath. Defending him now does nothing to change the past," she said stubbornly, getting back up and carrying on with her packing. "You can still take me to the airport tomorrow, right?"
Her best friend wanted to keep pushing, knowing she had harbored this heartbreak for too long. Sure what had happened between them sucked and was a horrible chapter of their lives, but neither made an effort to talk it out and understand the other's side of the story. Faults of being young, immature, and not knowing how to handle a grown-up decision.
"Yes, I'll pick you up at work at 10. Flights at 11:25, right?"
"Yes, and you know California traffic. That will probably get me there 10 minutes before my gate closes. I had to get an early flight though because that time difference is going to kick my ass. It'll be close to 5:30 in my head and 8:30 there by the time I land... " Y/N huffed, rolling her bag to the front door for tomorrow. "You mind taking this tonight and keeping it in your car for now? That way I don't have to lug it to work?"
"Yeah, yeah. I'll grab it on my way out. But we're still having a girl's night, right?"
Y/N laughed some before going to the kitchen to grab beers. "I Survived is already recorded and ready for us."
___________________
"Shit man... When's the last time you talked to her?" Steve asked, sitting across from his best friend in the chair diagonal from the couch, leaning forward on his knees after listening to the new news.
"Since I was supposedly signing our divorce papers. And even then, we didn't really talk. She sat there quietly straight-faced until it was signed and then rushed out the doors," Bucky sighed, still trying to wrap his head around the situation. "She was out of the state within the next hour."
Steve nodded before falling back into the single seat.
"So, do you guys have to see each other again, or is it one of those situations where you can sign separately?"
"I don't know. I just got off the phone. All I know up to this second is that Y/N and I have been married for the past 9 years without knowing it," Bucky said somewhat harshly. Steve didn't flinch at the tone knowing it wasn't directed at him. "I'm sorry. I-I just can't wrap my mind around this."
"It's ok. This is crazy shit, Buck," Steve waved off. There was a long pause before Steve decided to ask the question he was sure anyone would want to know. "Do you want to see her?"
Bucky slowly looked over to the blonde. God, he had been asking himself that question for the past 10 minutes himself.
On one end, yes. He wondered where she was now in life. How she was doing. What accomplishments he knew she would be making. He knew a few small things just by the whispers and small talk of her with their shared friend group that he still hung out with, but a majority of the time, they didn't bring her up around him. They knew what it did to him.
On the other end, he never thought about facing her again. I mean maybe for the year after their divorce, but when he never heard anything back from her all those times he still tried to reach out and she blocked him on almost all forms of social media, he gave up any hope of them falling back into good terms again. He hated it, but he wasn't going to push her when she clearly hated his guts.
And honestly, he deserved it. His young, stupid, college self was not a smart guy when it came to relationships. Even ones that had been there from the beginning of time practically.
Yet again, she wasn't perfect either. She made some mistakes of her own that pushed him to act the way he had.
"Hey, you both are older and more mature now. I'm sure you if you guys do have to see each other again, you can handle it like adults," Steve reassured, seeing Bucky's face turn to a soft frown. "Ok, so she may be a little stubborn..."
"A little?"
"Ok, a lot. But she's older now. She's not the 19-year-old girl that you remember," Steve defended.
"I believe that but I'm sure she still holds a grudge that is very, very, very, very-," Bucky was going to go on about 10 more very's before ending with BIG, but Steve cut him off.
"You don't know that," Steve shook his head.
"Really? Because usually when you no longer hold a grudge against someone, you might just reach out to that person and reconnect possibly," Bucky argued. "I mean that's what mature people do, right?"
"Not always..."
"So she's either not mature or still just as stubborn. Hell, for all we know, both," Bucky shrugged, pursing his lips.
"If you go into this with that mindset, nothing good is going to come out of it." Steve pointed an eyebrow at him.
Bucky rolled his eyes not replying to Steve. He knew he was right, but he was still bitter after all these years about how Y/N handled the situation. Sure, he messed up, but she had to. Yet she made him into this big bad wolf that was at 100% fault in the downfall of their relationship. It made him feel like shit, and though he tried to make amends knowing he did some fucked up things, she acted like she was Miss Perfect and didn't do anything wrong the entire time.
Damn, even after all this time, it still lit a fire in his chest with annoyance and hurt.
"When's the meeting?" Steve once again interrupted his thoughts.
"I guess Saturday morning. They said they were coming in on their off hours to fix up a few cases they found like ours," Bucky answered.
"How many cases were there?"
"Eh, I think he said it was single digits, but there were a shit ton of other cases in different areas that were worse off. The divorce ones are a small number compared to those."
"Damn. That sucks for all the couples who got a call today then," Steve huffed, running a hand down his face.
"Yeah, you're telling me..."
"Hey, we were going out with Wanda and Vis tonight. You still up for that, or...?" Steve stood up.
Bucky looked back at the beer on the coffee table and then at the TV still playing I Survived stories quietly in the background.
"You know what? I'm going to need a stronger drink than an IPA to get me to sleep tonight," Bucky nodded, standing and wiping his hands on his jeans before walking to his room.
"Looks like I'm the DD tonight then..." Steve sighed.
___________
"Vis," Wanda motioned to her fiance as he came back from the bar. "Nat just texted."
"About what? How is she?" Vis smiled as he sat next to her with Sam across from him. Sam tagged along at the last second since his other plans got canceled.
"She's good, but it's not about her," Wanda waved off, still reading whatever lengthy text was sent her way.
"Wow, that looks like a novel," Vis noticed with wide eyes as he looked over her shoulder.
"Wait 'til you hear what it's about."
Sam shook his head as he took a sip of the beer Vis had brought over.
After reading the rest of the text out loud from where she had left off, everyone at the table looked at each other with shock ridden faces.
"They're still married?" Vis said softly as if it was a secret.
"Apparently..." Wanda nodded with wide eyes.
"So that Hammer guy was a sham?" Sam questioned.
"I told her not to go to him. He had some shady hole in the wall kind of establishment," Wanda chided. "But she said they needed something cheap and fast. She hated his guts and wanted it out of it then and there. Plus, they were 19. They didn't have much money anyway."
"Why didn't they just ask their parents for help?" Sam questioned. "Isn't Y/N's mom loaded?"
"Yes, but she refused to help her. She said it was her own fault for getting married so young and that she had warned her. Told her she had to get out of the mess on her own," Wanda answered.
"What about her dad?" Vis jumped in.
"Bucky and her dad were close. She was off in Colorado for school and didn't want to put her dad through that or make him have to help her in cutting him off. Bucky was like the son he never had and they were bonded at the hip. No matter how much Y/N hated Bucky, she wasn't going to ruin or take away his relationship with her father. That would have been cruel, and Y/N is anything but that."
"Weren't Bucky's and Y/N's dad's best friends?" Sam asked.
"Yeah, they were old-time war buddies. They're the reason Bucky and Y/N had known each other since birth. But Bucky's dad died when he was about 13, and Y/N's dad, Thomas, kinda took him under his wing. Growing up a teenage boy without a father figure messes with you, and Bucky was on the edge of a bad path after losing his father."
"He's still rather close with Thomas, but I'm sure Y/N doesn't know that. Unless Thomas has said something, and with how everything came to an end for the two, I'm sure he doesn't bring it up knowing how tender of a subject Bucky is to her," Vis added.
"Makes sense..." Sam nodded. "I only knew you all from the start of college, so I'm still a little lost in all the beginning stuff."
"All good. It's complicated with those two. Their past and upbringing are so interconnected with the other, it makes their downfall all the more intense and messy," Wanda sighed. "God, if this is the news, he's going to be a wreck tonight..." She looked up worriedly at her fiance who shared the same concerns.
"It could go two ways. Either he comes in all solemn and says three words all night, or Steve's going to be the DD and he's waking up with a head-busting hangover," Sam noted with a small grin at the thought. "I'm going to go with the latter though."
"Poor guy," Wanda sighed, taking a drink with a sad face. Ever the sympathetic one.
"We'll be here to listen if he wants to talk. If not, we act like we have no idea and don't bring it up," Vision spoke up, throwing his arm over her and running his hand up and down her shoulder.
"I'm going to tease him still most likely," Sam shrugged nonchalantly. Wanda sent him a warning glare. "Fine, mama bear! I'll be nice... Until he starts making a fool of himself." He added the last part quietly.

How The Marauders got back together after The Prank
"Are you staying here?" Peter asked, trunk in hand. Sirius had plans of staying at Hogwarts for Christmas Holidays. He had heard how James, Remus and Peter planned their holidays at the Potters. Without inviting him. And practically the other two left without even looking at him. Sirius couldn't blame them. He didn't deserve to go, less, face Mr. and Mrs. Potter after everything they had done for him...
It had been two months since the incident. Sirius didn't even want to remember the stupid thing he did. But he missed his friends. Every day even more. Specially Remus. He didn't know why, but Sirius needed him so much.
"Yeah" Sirius answered "I got nowhere else to go Sirius had left Grimmaund Place the previous summer and his mother made sure he knew they didn't want to see him anymore. And Sirius didn't want to return anyway.
"I wish you could go" said Peter slightly smiling. He had been the only one who talked to him, when the others weren't around of course. But still Sirius was greateful.
"I don't think the others want me there Pete"
"I know" said Peter looking down "Well, I'll see you on January"
Sirius smiled. When Peter left he came back to bed with tears in his eyes.
His plans for the Holidays consisted on staying in bed all day, drink Firewiskey, smoke a lot and repeat. Sirius didn't want to do anything. Nobody he knew was staying. Besides he was so sad to move anyways.
It was Christmas day and Sirius was lying in bed listening to "While My Guitar Gently Weeps'. He moved to the side and saw on Remus' bed, a sweater. That green sweater he always wore, that fitted him so well and was his favourite. Sirius instantly got up and fetched it. 'Why did he leave it here?' Sirius first instict was to smell it. God. It smelled just like him..
"I miss you Moony" he said holding the sweater to himself.
"And you too bastard" he said looking at James' bed. "You too Pete" he said looking at Peter's bed. Suddenly Sirius had tears in his eyes again.
Then he heard a knock on the door. Sirius jumped and dropped the sweater. Who could it be? Sirius opened the door to find McGonagall standing there. "Hello Minnie" he said now smiling.
"Mr... Sirius" she said a little nervous "Merry Christmas"
"Merry Christmas"
"Pick up your things. You'll use the Floo Network"
"What? Where am I going?"
"She didn't tell you? Mrs. Potter is expecting you for Christmas"
Sirius dropped his gaze. "No. That's impossible. I don't think they'd want me there"
"Then why did I get this letter from her asking me to send you?" she gestured the opened letter.
"Really?"
"Bloody yeah" Minerva said impatient '"And I think you should go. Spending Christmas here by yourself is not a good way to spend it, is it?" She turned to leave "Oh and you should get a shower first"
Sirius smiled.
Sirius couldn't hide his excitement. If Mrs. Potter invited him maybe James wanted him there too. Maybe his friends wanted him there. Maybe they wanted to talk. But he was also nervous. How was he going to face the Potters? Why Euphemia was inviting him? She knew what he did? Was she going to scold him?
Sirius crossed the Floo Network and there she was
on the Potters living room, Euphemia.
"Sirius!" she said embracing him tighly "I'm so glad to see you sweetheart. Merry Christmas"
"Mrs. Potter. Merry Christmas" said Sirius shocked. She didn't know? Why was she so nice to him?
"What's wrong Honey?" she asked
"Why did you invite me here?"
"It's Christmas. Time to be with the ones you love"
"But... I don't think James wants me here"
"Don't worry. James told me everything and I'm not angry" she smiled "Now Fleamont and the boys went to buy some things. We can have some time by ourselves. Let's sit down and chat about it. Fancy a cup of tea?"
They chatted for about an hour. Sirius told her everything that happened. How sorry he was. And how he missed everyone.
"That's why I'm a bad person" Sirius finished. "I was surprised you invite me here. I thought you were mad?"
"Sirius, you're not a bad person. Do you hear me? You've just been through so much. And of course I'm not mad. You know, no matter what a child does, a mother will always love them anyways. And you are like a son to me. I ment what I said back in August, Sirius"
Euphemia smiled at him. Sirius was so grateful. That woman was the opposite to his own mother. James was so lucky. He smiled back.
"And you know how James is" she continued "Stubborn just like his father. I'm pretty sure he will forgive you, though. All your friends will"
Suddenly they heard the door opening up.
"Speaking of the devil" Euphemia said.
She stood up and went to the door. Sirius began to sweat. He didn't know how the rest were going to react to him being there. He didn't want any more fighting.
"Ah, you're back" Sirius heard Euphemia greet the rest.
"Effie" it was Mr. Potter's voice "You have no idea how many people were at Diagon Alley"
Sirius heard the boys greeting Mrs. Potter as well.
"We could have been here sooner but your son, didn't decide on a broom"
Sirius smiled.
"They were all great!" James protested. The two boys
laughed. God how much he missed them.
"Glad you are here boys" Sirius heard Euphemia's voice. "We have a guest"
As she said that, they all entered the room where Sirius was. He stood up. The three boys went pale when he saw him.
"What is he doing here?" James asked very upset. "What are you doing in my house?"
Sirius dropped the gaze. Fuck, he shouldn't have come.
"James" Euphemia said "I invited him for dinner. And this is not your house"
"What?" James got even angrier "There's no way we're dinning with him"
"James, boy" it was Fleamont who spoke "Don't be rude"
Sirius looked at Remus. He was avoiding his gaze.
He wanted to hug him so much.
"No! you don't understand" James continued "I've told you what he did. I've told you he is not my friend anymore"
Those words hurt Sirius like hell.
"James Fleamont Potter! that is enough!" Euphemia shouted, she was angry "You are going to change and eat with us. That is final!"
"Arrrg!!" James protested leaving upstairs. Remus followed him without looking at Sirius. Sirius followed him with his gaze. Peter gestured hello to Sirius but followed the boys.
"Don't listen to him, Sirius" said Fleamont smiling "He is even more stubborn than his old man" he patted Sirius shoulder "I'm glad you are here, boy. You are the only one who actually laughs at my jokes"
Sirius smiled.
"That's because he is gentle" Euphemia said smiling at her husband "Come to the kitchen love" she said to Sirius and he followed her.
Dinner was torture for Sirius. Everyone was eating in silence. They could only hear the sound of plates and houselves popping in and out. Sirius could feel James hateful gaze on him. Sirius looked at James but he suddenly stared at his food. Sirius looked at
Remus. For a moment they crossed stares but Remus looked somewhere else. '
Fuck, Moony look at me, he thought.
Sirius sighed and looked at Peter who appeared to be the only one enjoying his food. A house elf served Sirius more butterbeer with magic.
"Thank you Delphi" he whispered. Delphi disappeared. Sirius decided to breake the silence.
"Dinner is delicious. Mrs. Potter" he said
"Yeah it is" said Peter with his mouth full.
"Thank you. And Sirius call me Euphemia"
"Pfft" James whispered
"James" said Mr. Potter "Behave nicely please"
"Oh I'm sorry" he said sarcastically "Mr. Black I'm glad you are enjoying dinner"
"James" said Mrs. Potter
"What? You want me to feed him as well?"
"'James" whispered Remus. Sirius looked at him. It was the first time he spoke.
"Can we just enjoy a bloody dinner in peace?" asked Fleamont.
"This is ridiculous" said James "What? Are going to pretend we are a happy family? He only spent a few weeks here and now you consider him your son?"
Sirius lost his temper.
"That's enough!" he yelled dropping the fork on the table. Everyone looked at him. "You know, James? You're acting like a child right now. Grow up" Sirius was trying to be as nice as possible but he was fed up of people treating him like shit. First, his parents, Reggie and now James.
"I'm the one who is acting like a child?" James asked as furious "I'm not the one who almost killed someone. What? Everything is forgotten now?"
"James, stop it" it was Remus who spoke. Sirius looked at him in hope. Hope that he was defending him.
"You're arguing in front of your parents" Yet Remus didn't even look at Sirius.
"What? Are you defending him?"
"I'm not defending him"
"Do you remember what he did to you, Remus?"
Peter was following his gaze through them like a muggle tennis match.
"Fuck it James!" Sirius was fuming now "You think you are better than me? What about your nonstop bulling against Snivellus?"
Mr. and Mrs. Potter looked at their son.
"Shut up Sirius" James grunted
"You're not that fucking innocent. You've done terrible things to him"
James was angry looking at Sirius. But Sirius wasn't thinking straigth.
"At least I didn't try to kill him" James said
"James" said Remus
"Guys" Peter spoked
"Fuck I'm sorry! Okay?" Sirius shouted "I've said it so many times already. I'm sorry" he looked at Remus "I'm sorry Moony. I'm sorry I hurt you, okay?" Sirius had tears in his eyes. Remus looked at him for the first time "I didn't mean to hurt you, or anyone. I wish I could just go back and change it all but I can't. All I can do is feel miserable. I'm sorry, I'm like my parents or I'm a Black. But I love you Moony. God I love all of you so much. And you have no idea how much I miss you, lads. You are like my family. Without you I have nothing" Sirius wiped out his tears and got up. "Sorry Euphemia, but I need some air"
He left leaving everyone speechless.
Sirius got to the garden. It was beautiful out there tonight. Not like Sirius' insides. He shouldn't have come. He couldn't stop behaving like a Black. He always did or spoke stupid things without even thinking. Sirius wished that he could be someone else. Anyone. Have other family. And behave like a normal human being. Sirius had tears in his eyes. He was trembling. He took out a cigarette and put it on his mouth but before he could find his wand, another one was providing fire for him. Remus' wand.
"Remus" Sirius whispered.
Remus smiled slightly. "Hi, Pads"
It was the first time he called him that. Actually it was the first time he spoke to him. Remus had tears in his eyes as well. Before Sirius could say anything he heard another voice.
"Did you really miss us?" It was James. Sirius looked behind him and there he was with Peter.
"Yeah" was all that came out of Sirius' mouth.
James rubbed his hair "My mother yelled at us, and made us come to check on you. She's really annoying"
James wanted to sound angry but Sirius really knew him. He sounded... sorry?
"Prongs" said Remus with a smile on his face.
"Okay" James continued "I'm sorry for being an asshole to you" he said looking at the floor.
"And..." said Remus "She said we should focus on the good things you've done for us. She is right" Remus sighed "You are a good friend. You accepted me for who I am and you've been there for me. For us"
Sirius' heart was warming up. Was he dreaming? Was Remus saying all those nice things to him?
"Right" Peter added
"So, you are not angry at me?"
"Honestly Pads, we are always angry at you" James said.
And then he hugged Sirius. Sirius hugged him back tight, like if he let him go, he will disappear. They stood like that for a while.
"Amm. Should we get you a room?" Peter asked. Sirius and James stopped hugging awkardly. Sirius smiled and hugged Peter too.
"So are friends again?" Peter asked
"We never stopped being friends Wormy" said James Sirius turned to face Remus.
"Moony. I'm truly sorry for hurting you, I promise I will be there for you no matter what. You are very important to me. And I won't do anything stupid anymore"
Sirius had said sorry so many times by now but he got to let Remus know how important he was for him.
"Who are we kidding Padfoot?" Remus said "You will always do stupid things"
Everyone laughed at that and Sirius hugged Remus. He didn't know how much he needed the touch of his body. How much he missed his smell. His heart started beating fast.
"I think these two need a room, Pete" said James.
"Shut up, Prongs" Sirius said but he was smiling.
"Okay, who wants dessert?" asked James "Mum prepared her famous apple pie"
"Me please" said Peter
"Okay let's go"
James patted Sirius shoulder and smiled at him. Sirius was so happy to have his brother back.
James and Peter started walking. Sirius and Remus stayed behind. Sirius looked at Remus and Remus looked at him. They looked at each other goofly for a while smiling at each other. And Sirius' heart was racing again.
"I'm glad you are back" said Remus
"I'm glad I'm back too" Sirius said
Remus kissed his cheek and followed James and Peter. Sirius stood there. If this was a dream he didn't want to wake up. He had his friends back. He had Remus back. Did he actually deserve it? He promised himself, he wasn't going to hurt them or do something to lose them again. They were his family.

Tumblr media
Lily got off the Knight Bus, clutching at her leather bag, her hand stuffed in the pocket of her denim jacket, fingers curled around her wand. It was early morning in late July and the foggy London air carried a bit of a chill. Lily found it welcome; she was looking forward to autumn. Besides, she was sure the day would yet warm up – after all, the sun had only been up for a little over an hour.
Lily strode into the Leaky Cauldron and found it nearly empty at this time of the day. She nodded at the proprietor as she crossed the pub. Out in the walled courtyard, shivering in front of the dustbin, Lily pulled out her wand and muttered under her breath as she counted the right bricks.
Although at 17, and after six years at Hogwarts, she wasn’t a complete novice to navigating magic London, it was rare for her to do so unaccompanied. In fact, this was the very first time Lily had ventured to do her shopping for school on her own. It had taken her all day yesterday to get her parents to agree to let her go alone. She’d played the “seventeen is of age in the magical world” card and may have even slipped in a little white lie of having promised to meet up with friends.
Thankfully, her parents had agreed to let her go shopping alone.
With the shadows of the wizarding world stretching and deepening and with the tensions rising year after year, Lily wanted to keep her Muggle parents – who’d stick out like sore thumbs in a crowd of wizards and witches – as far from the magical world as she could. Not that the Death Eaters would have been so brazen as to launch an attack at Diagon Alley in broad daylight… but with every whispered rumour and every screaming headline, Lily worried.
She tapped the bricks with her wand and walked through the opening archway. For a brief moment, she paused to take in the familiar sight of Diagon Alley, then started up the cobbled street towards her very first stop. She took the steps at the end of the street and slipped in through the heavy double doors. The impressive tall entrance hall of Gringotts was hushed. Though there were only a few scattered witches and wizards about, the goblins were all busy at their desks. Lily waited until she was beckoned forward, then walked up to the desk, flashing a brief smile to the goblin.
“Good morning. I’d like to exchange this, please.”
She handed over the purse her parents had given her that morning and waited while the bank employee completed the exchange. She accepted the wizard money with a smile, nod and a quick thank you, and hastened out of the door. Gringotts always made her uneasy. It was too big and fancy and marble-y, too obviously built to impress.
Now that she had her money sorted out, it was time to hit the shops. Lily grinned in anticipation.
She entered the Apotechary first, mainly because she happened to chance upon it before any other shop she needed to get supplies in. She lost forty minutes in the shop, staying in to inspect the shelves and chat with the proprietor long before she’d found all the things she needed to replenish her potion supplies. She shouldn’t need too much anyway since the Potions class in Hogwarts had its own storage for the students to use.
Flourish and Blotts was where Lily’s feet took her to next, and she spent at least an hour wandering the stacks. Picking out all her textbooks, yes, but also browsing the new releases shelves and paying particular interest to several different sections of the shop – Potions, Charms, Healing and fiction, to name a few. Lily was a voracious reader and bookshops were her happy place. If not for the shopping list in her pocket, she would have stayed even longer. When she finally left the shop, Lily wondered if she might still have time to go back after she’d finished with her other shopping.
Back on the street, she stopped before the shop window of Madam Malkin's and dithered. Her current set of school robes had seen better days. But could she really justify the expense of a new set of school robes when she had only one year left at Hogwarts? She could probably still make do with her current set, only…
"Oi, Lily!"
Lily whipped around, startled, clutching her wand tight in her pocket, already subconsciously aiming it towards the voice. Her shoulders slumped in relief when she saw Sirius Black and James Potter saunter towards her across the cobbled stones.
“Oh, it’s you two. Hi.”
“Spooked, Lily?” Sirius grinned.
“Maybe a little. I was very much lost in my thoughts just now.”
“I noticed. I had to call your name twice,” Sirius drawled.
“You should be spooked,” James cut in, looking at her with a most uncharacteristic frown. “Why are you here alone? Where are your parents? Your friends?”
“I wanted to do my shopping alone this time. I’m a big girl, Potter. Of age, and all.”
“Yes, but that’s not – “
“James, Lily here can take care of herself. You should have seen that one time the Slytherins tried to give her a jump last autumn.”
“I don’t see your parents here, either,” Lily added, raising a pointed eyebrow at James.
“Mum wasn’t feeling too well,” James shrugged. “So she told Sirius and me to go ahead. Besides, it’s different. Neither of us is a – erm…”
Lily crossed her arms, hid her shaking fingers from both her classmates’ gazes.
“A Muggleborn,” she said, her voice dull.
Sirius shrugged.
“I don’t mean it in a bad way,” James said, his cheeks now tinting alarmingly pink. “It’s just… the news and all. I get worried.”
Lily met his stare, looked into his earnest hazel eyes and saw the same anxiety reflected there that churned in her own chest. The corner of her lip curled up in a wan smile.
“Yeah. I do, too.”
“Join us, Lily. The more the merrier. And we need to spare poor James’ delicate nerves, don’t we? He has been fretting enough as is since we got our letters yesterday. Poor bloke was inches away from full-on apoplexy.”
The wan smile blossomed into a grin. There was something about these boys, an innate quality they shared – an ability to instantly cheer someone up. And why not join them for the rest of the day? She knew she’d be in good company and hadn’t spent time with them for many long weeks since their last term had ended.
“We can’t have that, can we? The world needs James Potter,” Lily replied, sliding her arm through Sirius’.
He winked at him. “James seems to think so, at least.”
“You sod, I’m right here,” James retorted, rolling his eyes. But he was smiling now too, the shadows gone from his eyes.
“How far along are you in your shopping?” Lily asked.
“Haven’t really started. We only just came in and got stuck in the Quidditch supplies shop for quite a while.”
“You say that as if you hadn’t spent fifteen minutes staring at the Quidditch robes on display,” James muttered.
Lily bit her lip to stifle a smile. “I’ve got my textbooks and Potions supplies.”
“Potion supplies?” Sirius slanted her an incredulous look. “Why in the name of Morgan’s mouldy mantle are you buying potion supplies? Slughorn’s classroom storage isn’t big enough for you?”
“It never hurts to have a few of the more common – and rare – ingredients around.” Lily shrugged. “Besides, you never know when you might need to brew a little something outside the classroom.”
“Please. You have Slughorn wrapped around your little finger, I’m sure he’d let you use the classroom and his personal potion supply stocks if you asked.”
“Maybe. But I like being prepared.”
“That’s a foreign concept to Sirius,” James quipped. “So he probably won’t understand.”
“You know, I really don’t.” Sirius agreed. “What’re you after next then, Lily?”
She didn’t even have to consult her shopping list. “Ink, quills, parchment and all that.”
“Stationery shop it is,” Sirius decided.
“Did you want to get robes, though?” James asked. He nodded towards Madam Malkin’s. “You were looking at the shop window.”
“Ahh, I was dithering,” Lily admitted, glancing back at the shop. “My school robes are getting a bit worn but then again getting a whole new set can get expensive. And we only have one year left.”
“Everyone deserves nice things, especially when they’re clothes,” Sirius decreed. And as Lily’s arm was still hooked with his, pulled her along with him into the shop. James’ warm chuckle accompanied Lily’s startled laughter as he followed after them.
Lily did order a full new set of school robes for herself – as did Sirius and James. James, especially, had a good reason to. Lily couldn’t help noticing he seemed a good inch or two taller than when she’d last seen him.
After splurging on the new robes, they did go to the stationery shop and got all the supplies they needed. Then, Lily had her chance to return to Flourish and Blotts for some more browsing while the boys got their textbooks.
The sun was peeking out from behind the grey clouds when they returned to the street and started strolling down.
“Where to next?” James asked, rearranging all the shopping bags he was juggling – he’d refused to let Lily carry her own shopping.
“The joke shop!” Sirius cried as they passed the window.
“Actually, I could use a little break. Rest my feet.”
James turned to her. “Fancy an ice cream, Lily?”
“Who’d turn down ice cream?”
“It’s too cold for ice cream,” Sirius argued, his nose crinkling in distaste.
“Then go on and explore the joke shop to your heart’s content. Lily and I will go sit down and have ourselves some ice cream.”
Sirius shrugged. “Works for me.”
He’d already gone into the shop before Lily had even agreed to the plan.
“Shall we?” James asked, studying her.
“Let’s go,” Lily told him, a smile touching her lips.
Soon enough, they were hunkered together at a corner table inside the small but cosy Florean Fortescue’s Ice Cream Parlour, shopping bags gathered around their feet. They were sitting side by side, so close to one another in the confined space that their arms were almost touching. It was most distracting, in Lily’s opinion, especially when James kept fidgeting.
She slanted him a long look. He was pushing a strawberry around his bowl of sundae.
Lily stopped with the spoon in her mouth. James Potter, not eating? Something was definitely up. He was staring down at the tabletop, frowning. His leg danced restlessly beside her. The strawberry made its third circuit around the bowl.
Lily was at her limit, already drawing in a breath to ask him what was going on when James spoke up.
“So, the Hogwarts letters came yesterday, right?”
Lily’s eyebrow rose. “Yes. They did.”
“Anything special about your letter?” James asked.
Lily looked at him. He wasn’t quite meeting her eyes, still pushing that infernal strawberry around, but there was something in the hazel depths that caught her attention. Expectation, perhaps. Hope. Something a little desperate bordering on a plea.
Oh.
Immediately, warmth bloomed in Lily’s chest – a rushing flashback to the golden glow Lily had felt yesterday when she’d opened her letter. When the small pin had dropped onto her bedroom carpet and glimmered up at her. A buoyant, radiant warmth, as if she had swallowed the sun.
“There was, actually,” Lily said, unable to hold back her smile. “Yes.”
James’ posture relaxed. His restless leg quieted. He stopped playing around with the strawberry.
“Good. That’s brilliant. You made Head Girl, then?”
“I did, yeah.”
“I was really hoping you would.” James ran his hand through his hair, mussing it up. Then he reached into his pocket, dug something out and thrust it at Lily.
Lily frowned but she put down the spoon and took the envelope. She opened it and peered in – and saw something glimmer up at her.
She knew what it was, even when she picked up the small pin with numb fingers. She stared at the innocent letters carved into the metal. Head Boy.
And in that instant, her surprise melted away like James’ poor neglected sundae.
Of course James was the Head Boy, who else would they pick? He had the leadership qualities, which he’d been aptly demonstrating on the Quidditch field. He was brilliant and always got top grades in his classes. He had an easy-going nature and a natural charisma that both endeared him to others and made other people look up to him. There was no one who suited the role better, who’d be more deserving than James.
Lily brushed her thumb over the pin, then dropped it back into the envelope.
“Head Boy, huh?” Lily said, passing the envelope back to him. “Congrats.”
“Thanks. I still have a hard time believing it,” he told her, flashing a sheepish smile. He stuffed the envelope into his pocket and ran his hand through his hair again.
Lily tilted her head, filled her spoon with delicious chocolate ice cream. “Why?”
“Well, I’m hardly Head Boy material, eh?” James shook his head.
The gesture was dismissive, and Lily’s eyes narrowed even as the smooth chocolate sweetness melted on her tongue. Her spoon hit the table with a clank as she slammed her hands down.
“Look at me, James.”
He turned his head, his hazel eyes hesitant as their gazes locked.
“You’ve earned this. You’re nothing but Head Boy material. Honestly, if it was up to me to choose the Head Boy for our final year, I’d choose you.”
There was a shift in the air between them. His eyes grew wide and then impossibly soft. Something new and potent shimmered to life between them and all of a sudden Lily’s chest ached.
She was trapped in his gaze and it was all a bit too meaningful now. With much effort, Lily looked down, picked up her spoon, focused fully on scooping up another mouthful of chocolate ice cream.
“You should eat up before the rest of your sundae melts,” she told him. And even though she didn’t look up, she could feel the warmth of his smile.
His spoon finally trapped the errant strawberry from earlier and it vanished from Lily’s line of vision.
A moment later, she braved a quick glance at him and bit back a groan.
Strawberry juice glistened on James’ lips, staining them red. Lily’s breath caught and she was too aware of James’ thigh, less than an inch away from hers.
“Lily? You OK? Did you get a brain freeze?”
“Huh?” Lily asked, managing to wrench her gaze up to meet his eyes.
“Ice cream get too cold for you? Your eyes were going a bit glazed there.”
Lily shook her head. “I’m good. Just spaced out.”
She gripped her spoon tight to stop her fingers from trembling. Gave the chocolate ice cream a leisurely lick.
James shifted, his thigh now pressing against hers. Lily’s flushed skin tingled under the weight of his gaze.
“We’re going to be spending a lot of time together this year, aren’t we?” James asked, the words coming out a little strained.
“Uh-huh.” Lily slanted him a glance from under her lashes, the corner of her lip quirking up. “It’s going to be an interesting year, isn’t it?”
James’ eyes hooded even as he grinned right back at her. “I certainly hope so.”
They shared the smile and the knowledge, that little bright spark that danced in both of their eyes. They went back to eating their ice cream and after a moment the stretching silence filled with talk of their summer holidays.
And all the while they sat at their little corner table, sharing ice cream and laughter and lively conversation, James’ leg stayed pressed against Lily’s. A little secret of their very own.

Patience is a Virtue | Shinsuke Kita x Reader
Tumblr media
✧ Summary: You lost track of the days that you were in love with Kita. He was so much more than just the team mom that many outsiders dubbed him as. He was the wielder of cold-logic and held the bluntest of words at times, but he showed his own special brand of care for each member of the team. What you hadn’t expected was for him to especially care about you.  ➳ Warnings: Language because twins lmao ➳ Tags: Childhood friends to lovers; mostly fluff and humor; Atsumu being a little shit; friends trying to be match-makers; mild jealousy on Kita’s part; introspection and some character development
✧  Masterlist
---xXxXxXxXxXxXxXxXx---
As the manager of the Inarizaki volleyball club, you were no stranger to the antics of your generally loud team. And while this was usually elicited by the twins, with most of the team ahem especially Suna being no help (since many would rather film then break-up the fight), you were almost a pro at keeping them calm to the public eye.
You grew up alongside most of the members of the team, a strange connection between all of the players. From advanced classes in junior high to being literal neighbors to some of them, you were long-term classmates with many of the members - including the captain himself.
Kita was much more than the doting team mom than people gave him credit for. Yes, he was often the face of the team, the voice of reason that handled the interviews and other press coverage, but this all came from a place of stone-cold reason. He had strict routines and never cared about doing things without practical rationale. Kita had a mature way of thinking, often compartmentalizing both people and emotions, to the point that it made people his own age not relate to him.
Even the quiet Suna, the analytical little shit who loved to poke fun at said captain, had honestly admitted that he thought Kita to be on the robot-side of the emotional spectrum.
And, despite all this, Kita was the long-term object of your affections.
It was all the little things that made your crush on him grow. From his proper speech, the blunt words no matter to whom he was speaking to, or his unusual brand of care he extended toward his teammates, Kita was the foundation of Inarizaki that you fell for. And when he was named captain of the volleyball team? You almost cried alongside him, reveling in the rare fit of pure happiness that he was gracing your eyes with.
You remembered the last time you walked home together, for once not being called away on separate duties as captain and leading manager. He treated you to ice-cream and walked along you side-by-side.
“Mint chocolate-chip with two cherries.” He told the street-cart vendor confidently, knowing your favorite flavors by heart at this point.
You ordered for him in kind, receiving the treat from the vendor as Kita paid for both of your orders. Anyone else would be contesting it, but you knew that Kita would not take no for an answer. He did stuff like this all the time with you, you were better off not fighting it. This was not the hill you wanted to die on.
But you were surprised when Kita licked at your ice cream, smiling as he tasted it and maintaining your gaze head-on. The shock on your face must have been evident since the smirk on his widened. You reached for the cone in his hand, only for him to lightly slap it away.
“Should I be asking with a pretty please or something?” You asked with a playful pout.
“No.” Kita replied, before lowering it to your eye-level.
Did he want you to lick it? While he was holding it????
Wordlessly, you followed his silent command and felt the minty taste of your afternoon snack on your tongue. Kita watched the action, eyes following your tongue as he shot you a friendly smile. He pulled away before you could get that much more, before licking your ice cream again.
Was that an indirect kiss???
“My, you two make quite the couple.” The vendor commented, clasping her hands together as she watched your interaction.
“We’re not dating.” Kita answered, squashing any hope you had from that interaction.
He was just?? So confusing??
You had so many little moments like this over the years. So many that had you often questioning deep into the night what truly was your relationship with the blunt captain of Inarizaki. You fell for him so many years ago, it made you wonder when was the last time you really thought of him as just a friend. Did he truly not know about your feelings?
But Kita was smart and on just as many occasions, you wondered if he knew the truth but simply did nothing about them. If he could read the twins with little effort, there was no doubt he understood your feelings long-ago, but decided not to act.
At least, that was your reason behind not openly admitting it to him:
That Kita knew you had a crush on him. And since he did not feel the same, it was better off if he did not address them.
And so you never brought it up, stewing in silence for years.
Eight years was a long time to be in love alone.
“You should just give up on him.” Jisoo, your fellow Inarizaki manager commented one day. She was in the same class as the twins, a year your junior.
The both of you were lounging outside in the courtyard for lunch, a humidly hot day that made the two of you especially lazy this particular school-day. Only a few more hours more and you would be free of classes, liberated of any schoolwork and finally enjoying the weekend.
You were mindlessly scrolling through your phone, looking at the different posts on social media from your various friends. Atsumu had posted of his serve practice the day before, his comment section flooded with various hearts by his fan-club of all things. Osamu’s private Instabook was of food while Aran’s had posted one of the day’s blue skies.
“Why would I do that?” You asked with a sigh, already used to her trying to guide you away from him. You understood why, it was hardly a smart decision to hold onto your feelings, not that you really cared.
“Aren’t you tired of it by now?”
But was that a good enough reason at this point? You were a third-year and about to graduate. If there was one thing that was constant throughout your entire life in the farming prefecture you called a home, it was that you had feelings for the captain.
The sky was blue. Summer was hot. You liked Kita.
It was that simple sometimes. And while there were moments that hurt your heart, it was not like you had any head-space to even try to stop.
“Maybe.” You answered candidly, “Honestly, I wouldn’t even know how to. But I don’t want to either.”
“I worry about you, senpai.”
“What can I say?” You tried to joke, even with your sad smile. “Kita has my heart on lock-down.”
“We’re all going to the twins’ party this weekend, why don’t you try talking to some of the guys there?”
“Not this again.” You complained as you put your phone down on the table.
“Come on!” Jisoo pushed, “I’m sure there’ll be someone there that peaks your interest.”
You raised a brow in response, doubt evident on your face.
She teased, “It could also be on a purely physical level.”
Laughing at her statement, you said. “Like that’s any better.”
“A little smooches here and there never hurt anyone.”
“Now I’m worrying about you.”
She giggled, before continuing. “Just think about it. First guy tonight who hits on you, give him a chance.”
While you would have dismissed the thought immediately, there was something rather playful happening in the pit of your stomach. As if, for once in a long-time, you wanted to feel the puppy love of just casually flirting. Of grinning and laughing along with someone's advances and actually enjoying one these parties; rather than just sitting on the couch playing Mario Kart waiting for Kita to hopefully show.
“I don’t know, maybe.”
She sighed loudly, happy to have cracked you a little. Jisoo continued with a teasing grin on her face. “Oh right, I forgot. You’re a masochist.”
“I could’ve told ya that.” Another voice broke out, the familiar setter of two-tone hair taking the seat next to you. He picked at one of your french-fries, eating it with no preamble as Suna took the seat diagonal from you, next to Jisoo at the picnic table outside.
For someone who spoke a lot of game about not being caught up with the twins, Suna tended to hang around Atsumu quite a bit.
“I am not a masochist.” You defended from Atsumu’s words, earning an eye-roll from the other female manager.
“Why else would you agree to manage a team with the twins?” Suna quipped before taking out his phone, probably scrolling through social media as well. Atsumu shrugged in agreement, a smirk on his face.
“Also, tell that to your love life.” Jisoo countered, playfully moving her lunch out of Atsumu’s reach before the setter could commandeer some of hers.
You quietly pushed the rest of your fries in his direction, appetite long gone on this overly humid day. Doing this sort of thing was actually quite natural with the twin, sharing food and hugs were a normal thing with your friend.
“It’s not that bad.” You argued.
“Wait, have ya ever dated before?” Atsumu asked.
“Have you?” You countered back, the setter was infamous for his many… romantic encounters. But the young man had yet to ever put a serious label on any of those instances, at least not to your knowledge.
He rolled his eyes in response, turning to Jisoo instead to continue.
“Come on senpai, not even a smooch?” She pushed.
You felt your face flush at having been called out, “Well....”
Atsumu turned his body toward you in his seat, his insufferably confident smirk back on, “I could help ya with that.”
You pushed away at his shoulder, “You say it like it’s a problem.”
“Ya savin’ it till ya get married or somethin’?” He asked, genuinely curious. Even Suna turned to you, looking up from his phone in interest.
You turned to Jisoo, the conversation taking a dangerous turn. If you said yes, their curiosity would definitely be spiked. And it was not like you could lie to them and say it was some random person in your class - you knew these boys for years, but they also knew you in kind.
Yes or no?
The other manager did not even try to bail you out and your silence was already tantamount to an answer.
“Aww. How cute of ya, (L/N).” Atsumu chuckled, reaching to pat your head. You slapped it away before he got too close. For someone younger than you, he was quite the brat. Years of being friends long stripped away any formalities apparently.
“Looks like our heart-breaker manager is actually very sentimental.” Suna commented, a brow raised in your direction.
“Heart-breaker?” You questioned in genuine confusion.
“Come on, (L/N)-san.” Jisoo answered this time, “She’s had her heart set for so long, she hasn’t even seen the other boys she’s curved.”
“How is that possible when no one’s confessed to me?”
Jisoo laughed while Atsumu absently tapped his finger on the table, “Even I know that ain’t true, (L/N).”
“Whatever.” There was no reasoning with your underclassmen when they were this dead-set. No one had confessed to you before, right? At least none to your memory, they were just being instigators as usual?
“That doesn’t answer the question why ya sittin’ here single.” Atsumu stated.
“He obviously has feelings for you, but she’s too much of a wuss to confess.” Jisoo stated it plainly for you, then turned to look at Atsumu with an expectant face. “So it’s either because he hasn’t noticed, which I doubt, or he’s not looking for commitment.”
“Ah. And it’s someone we’ve known for years, huh?” Suna deduced, words come out slowly.
You straightened your back in surprise and shot warning looks toward both boys. This was getting too close, they were starting to put together pieces of a puzzle you hadn’t even willingly handed to them. And knowing these little shits, they were not going to let this go until they found out.
Atsumu inclined his head for you to continue while Suna’s eyes never left your own. Suna was smart all the time, but with being associated with the twins constantly, it was easy to forget that fact. And since the trio acted like idiots so often, you tended to forgo how truly analytical even the Atsumu was.
This was not good - so not good. It probably would not take them long to deduce the person at this rate.
“I swear to the highest volleyball gods out there,” You spit out as your turned to the other manager, “I will fucking smite you off this planet if you say another word.”
Jisoo burst out laughing immediately, almost choking on her lunch as Atsumu grinned at your warning, the exact opposite response you wanted.
“Strong words ya got there.” He commented, body still angled toward yours in interest. “Looks like we hittin’ a lil too close to home?”
“Don’t even try it.” You responded back, turning away from his inquisitive eyes and back to your phone.
Needless to say, they didn’t listen.
Suna backed up in his seat, eyes glancing between you and the setter. “No commitment, huh?”
Meanwhile, Atsumu was rapid-firing questions. “Is it a second-year? Third-year? Is he on the volleyball team? Do we know ‘em personally?”
You smiled at his now peaked curiosity, the setter almost looking like a small puppy waiting for a treat. But you refused to answer, no doubt sure that they would tell the captain the moment they found out the truth. You turned to Jisoo, who was smiling away at Atsumu, but otherwise sat thankfully quiet.
Atsumu was firing off specific names now, hoping to get any response from you.
“The bastard’s gotta be on the team.”
“Bastard?” Jisoo laughed at the nickname.
“Shut up, Atsumu.” You countered, attempting to poke harshly at his forehead to stop. But he just grabbed the hand in one of his own, holding it in his lap as he continued to spit out names.
“Is it Aran?”
“Will you stop?”
“‘Samu?”
“I will murder you in cold blood.”
“... Is it me?”
You tried your best to pull your hand away, now realizing his tightening hold on against the skin of your hand. How long had you been sitting there holding hands? You felt a natural rosiness rise to your cheeks, not really because of the recipient, but because you were doing so in public with some guy.
Instead, you poked the setter’s side roughly, earning a deep groan, but freeing your hand in the process. Packing up your belongings, you stepped out of the picnic table and stated, “Lunch is almost over, we should get to class.”
You walked away with a small wave, the boys turning to the now only female occupant of the lunch-table.
“So…”
“Nu-uh.” Jisoo cut off Atsumu, moving to leave the table before she accidentally said anything.
“Throw a man a bone here! Or at least help him bone.” Atsumu murmured that last part under his breath, “Ya don’t even have to verbally confirm it - is it me?”
Jisoo paused as she stood, books in hand already. The look she threw him was mischievous, but otherwise she left in silence.
Unfortunately for you, all you were thinking about during class was that conversation you just had. Kita sat on your right in your next few classes, the mild Ōmimi behind the both of you. The last thing you needed was to linger on their teasing words of smooches and marriage. You couldn’t confess your feelings, imagining anything else?? You could only imagine the bright blush at the simple thought of it.
And apparently, you hadn’t hidden it well.
“Something wrong?”
There were still a couple more minutes until the teacher would return. And so you were sitting in the classroom with Kita alongside you, other students milling around the room. He was so damn good at reading people and you cursed that he was using it against you now.
“Just thinking about some stuff Jisoo said at lunch.” You tried to wave off.
“You’re blushing.” Kita stated bluntly, putting his book down as he spoke to you.
He was never one to sugar-coat his words.
“Am I?” You put your palms to your cheeks, as if to feel the heat. There was no point in trying to lie to him. “She was teasing me about boys.”
“Oh. Are you dating anyone?” Kita asked.
God, this was awful.
There was nothing worse than your crush asking about your crush.
“No, not yet.” You shook your head negatively, turning towards the window on your left, at least trying to hide your expression.
“Yet? Are you looking to date soon?”
You wanted to scream.
“Um, not in the near future.” You tried to deflect, “But it could happen!”
“Of course.” He smiled, “I packed extra onigiri for lunch, but I couldn’t find you. I’m not sure if you still want it.”
“Ah, I would love to! If I’m not imposing, then yes.”
Kita shook his head, “I packed it for you.”
“You’re so sweet sometimes.” You said honestly, taking it and munching down.
“You usually either forget your lunch or eat junk.” He stated plainly, making you suddenly blanch at his cold-words. I mean, he wasn’t exactly wrong either. You thought back to the lunch you had today, literally just water and french fries that you ended up giving to Atsumu.
“Ha, well.” You trailed off before settling on, “Thanks for always taking care of me.”
Kita’s small grin widened as he looked you in the eyes, “It’s my pleasure.”
When he said things like that, it easily set your heart aflame. It was so simple, such small interactions that you would have to squint hard to find anything underlying in his words. But you wanted to. You wanted to feel needed and also give to the captain as well.
The blush you had earlier was probably nothing in comparison to how you looked now, you were sure. And, with Kita being the ever smart cookie he was, there was no doubt that he spied your inflamed reaction.
Was that conversation over? Was he expecting a response?
Maybe the volleyball god’s did have mercy on your poor soul, since your teacher walked in then and thankfully brought your conversation to a halt. You tried not to outwardly seem relieved, turning to the front and taking out your notebooks.
Your mind wandered in and out of the lecture. There were moments that your gaze just happened to meander over to the captain to your right. It was one thing to suddenly notice you were staring at him, but another thing entirely to be caught in the action. Kita would usually just smile at you kindly, before nudging his chin toward the front of the room toward the teacher.
Even later during volleyball practice, your eyes would casually dawdle over to where the captain was standing. Whether he was watching the team with careful eyes or participating himself in practicing spikes, your eyes usually just found him.
But today was not the day to let down your guard.
Atsumu and Suna were paying careful attention to you. And now it was no secret where your gaze was pointed to. Suna smirked when he realized, but Atsumu clicked his tongue and mentally filed it away for later. Jisoo once snapped playful fingers in front of your face, grabbing your attention to flip the scoreboard.
When it was finally time to clean, Kita helped you collect the left-over volleyballs and roll the hammock into the proper storage room. You did so carefully, making sure not to accidentally touch his skin lest he back off from the motion. But the kind, neutral expression he shot you went straight to your heart.
“Let’s get the scoreboard next.” He instructed, the both of you moving to opposite sides of the wheeled board.
And you would have, if Atsumu had not thrown a casual arm across the captain’s shoulders.
“Hey, do ya mind helpin’ ‘Samu over there?” He motioned with his thumb over his shoulder, pointing to his twin who was not looking at all.
Slightly suspicious, Kita did as asked anyway and went with the grey-headed twin to mop the floors.
“What was that about?” You asked as Atsumu pushed the scoreboard along with you.
It was only when you entered the storage room alone that he replied, “So Mister No Gaps Kita Shinsuke, huh?”
“What?!” You fought the inward need to slap yourself, high voice and exclamation enough to show that he was right on the money. “You asshole, how do you know that?”
“I didn’t need anyone to tell me that.” He emphasized, gesturing at your eyes with two fingers. “Ya kept starin’ at ‘em the entire practice.”
You huffed frowning, “That obvious, huh?”
“Yea, he probably knows too - especially if Suna and I figured this shit out.”
That didn’t help at all.
“Great.” You leaned against the nearby wall and put a palm to your forehead.
Atsumu crossed his arms, “So why haven’t ya confessed to ‘em yet?”
You scoffed and shot him a flat-expression, “Because he doesn’t like me back?”
“What? He said that to ya?”
“Well, no.” You hesitated, but explained. “I mean, he definitely knows I have feelings. And Shinsuke has never been one to beat around the bush. If he hasn’t addressed it, it’s probably because he doesn’t want to make it awkward…  since he doesn't feel the same.”
“I think you’re a dumbass.” Atsumu stated back, sighing heavily. “Kita don’t think like that and we both know it.”
“Why else would he be waiting it out?” You asked, “This is the same Kita that told us he doesn’t understand how people feel nervous.”
“Jesus, (F/N). He was talkin’ about volleyball.” Atsumu groaned, raking one of his hands through his piss-blonde hair. “Kita’s human too. Maybe he’s not sure how ya would respond for the same reasons.”
“I don’t know if love advice from the school’s resident fuck-boy is a good idea.” You jabbed instead, a playful smile on your face.
Atsumu put a mock-offended hand on his chest, a smirk finding a way on his face before he squashed it down seriously. He took a step toward you until you were less than an arms’ length-apart, “Fine, have it your way. Stew in silence until he finds someone else.”
That struck a silent chord in you.
“Honestly, that was kind of the plan these past few years.” You admitted, turning your head toward the ground. “If he could find his true happiness with someone else, then I would be happy for him.”
Atsumu must have detected your seriousness, since he hesitated to say his next few words. “Don’ be like that. Stop bein’ an idiot - he likes you.”
“Shut up.”
“Come on, (L/N).” Atsumu levelled with you, “Ya standin’ here like ya ain’t the only girl he’s ever withstood.”
“Wow, what a feat.” You muttered as you sighed.
“Fine, if ya don’t believe that. Aren’t ya’ll best friends anyway?” Atsumu asked, “I’m sure he’d do anythin’ to keep you close.”
You hesitated, but agreed. Your relationship, no matter if he reciprocated your feelings or not, you were best friends. But if he didn’t feel the same and you said something? Would there ever be recovering from something like that?
Atsumu drew you out of your thoughts before he lost you further to your over-thinking, “You’re a real catch. Anybody would be lucky to have ya.”
“Oh?” You shot a withered smile at him.
“And I’m not just sayin’ that to put the moves on ya.” Atsumu joked, earning a light punch to his shoulder as you walked past him to leave.
“Yeah, yeah.” You said before turning back towards him, remembering to say. “None of this leaves this room. You hear that?”
“Yes ma’am.” He mock-saluted, a second later a loud ahem ringing through the room.
You tensed up and turned toward the door, seeing a blank-faced Shinsuke standing in the open doorway. Atsumu was always surprised, albeit much less worried than you were. Was your secret finally out?
“Am I interrupting something?” He asked, before you pushed shouted a loud No! and brushed past him back into the gymnasium.
Atsumu tried to casually exit the room as well, before his captain’s voice rang-out again, “Care to explain what that was about?”
The setter had two options here: either brush it off or fan the flames that he knew for a fact was there. You were the obvious party, openly staring at the captain like your eyes belonged on him. But Atsumu knew that those feelings were not as unrequited as you thought.
He remembered some club-room talk not that long ago. It was normal for the guys to discuss their preferences, something that Atsumu was rather vocal about on multiple occasions. Aran was just looking for someone he could cook while Ōmimi stated he liked girls who were generally very kind. Osamu preferred someone who was a bit meeker while Atsumu loved ‘em vocal, even bratty to the point of talking back.
“Of course, you would.” Suna commented as he dressed.
“What the fuck do ya mean by that?” The setter bit out.
“As in the fuckboy thinks he’s a girl tamer.” Suna snarkily replied.
“Well, when a girl has a mouth on her. I want to put it to good use.” Atsumu said with a smirk, earning a loose towel to the head, one that Osamu had just launched from across the room. Aran sighed and grabbed it before Atsumu could whip it back. Kita nodded toward his counterpart in quiet thanks.
Many of the others were still dressing after practice this day, it would be annoying to have to break up another fight between the twins then.
“Can ya be less of an asshole?” The grey-headed twin asked.
“Wha? I’m speakin’ the truth!” Atsumu defended, “Not every girl is like that anyway.”
“And who would the infamous Ratsumu have his eyes on?” Suna asked, genuinely curious but not missing the chance to poke at the setter.
Atsumu frowned, but continued anyway. “No one, right now. But I still got eyes, ya know. Ya can’t tell me our manager ain’t a cutie.”
“She would rather hand you a new asshole than ever date you.” Suna said, to which Akagi laughed.
“Careful, ‘Tsamu.” Osamu playfully warned, “People might think ya like (L/N)-san.”
“What can I say, she’s single and hot as fuck.” Atsumu replied off-handedly.
It was a plain statement, but you could almost physically feel the temperature change in the club-room. Aran was glancing between the captain while the rest wondered why it was suddenly dead silent.
Osamu wondered if his prayers had been heard and he would soon be an only child.
“I suggest not saying that again.” Kita stated over his shoulder as he buttoned up the rest of his shirt.
That was a clear enough warning to everyone in the room that you were off limits. Suna had remembered this instance as well, in the present day reminding Atsumu after lunch not to push any buttons. It was clear then that Kita had no tolerance to any shit he was going to pull and now the pining was mutual on both your ends. Suna reminded him again and again during class to just let you and Kita sort your feelings naturally.
Pfft.
Was Atsumu going to be a little shit and try to sew some discord?
Hell yes.
“What can I say?” Atsumu feigned being casual, even shrugging as he exited the quiet storage room. “A pretty girl and a young guy enter a closet alone together, you know the rest.”
The glare he felt on his neck could have been enough to snap it with this much pressure. But, Atsumu digressed. He was doing the both of you a favor anyway, pushing you together when you both already had feelings for one another (albeit with some mind games interspersed).
Atsumu almost laughed when Kita grabbed your hand when the two of you walked home together.
Kita knew what the setter was doing. What buttons he was trying to push, what he was trying to imply with you. The captain knew it all and he was still getting pissed off.
True to everyone’s assumptions, Kita knew about your feelings for him. The extent and duration, that he was not sure of. But he knew that you have thought about him in a romantic light for quite some time. Lingered looks and purposeful touches, on both your ends, was not something he could easily ignore.
What made Kita wonder was why you hadn’t said anything at all?
You were often pretty straight-forward as well. Not exactly in terms of romance, but you when were interested in something you tended to speak your mind. Whether it be a new show, some shounen anime you were following along with, you always shared it with him.
And for that fact he was always grateful.
Many of the others your age tended to be warded off by his way of thinking, branding him too mature or even too cold at times. To think that even the sarcastic Suna had nicknamed him as a robot, it was interesting to see that was how most people saw him.
But you didn’t.
Or at least, you saw passed his cold exterior and were just a freely-spoken with your mind. Kita’s blunt way of speaking had casualties sometimes, but you usually voiced if his blunt speech was too much. There were times that, if you were inadvertently hurt by his words, you would say it out-loud.
He remembered the last time this happened, not even a month ago. The two of you were hanging out under the shade of a tree, about to go out to a team hangout when you exited your back porch wearing a blue sundress. It flirted high above your knees and showed off the creamy legs of yours that he loved to trail his eyes over.
You looked breath-taking.
And so he said:
“Is there an occasion I’m missing today? I thought we were just going out with the team.”
The disappointed look on your face was immediate and it did not take a genius to figure those were the wrong words to say. But what he was not sure is where it went wrong. Logically, it made sense. You were going to walk at least two miles to the train and then from there a mile to the arcade. And most of that time you would all be standing. Would you even be comfortable doing all this walking in sandals?
But you didn’t get offended or draw away from him from these smaller misunderstandings.
You were always ready to knock some sense into him if need be.
“Not even a compliment on how I look? How mean.” You said with a frown, “I tried a bit more because I don’t usually get the chance to.”
“I know, but I want you to be comfortable considering the walks today.” Kita lightly grabbed your elbow as he stepped closer, “Besides, you always look beautiful no matter what you’re wearing.”
Your blush was palpable, Kita was almost sure he could fry an egg on your forehead, if the redness was any indication of temperature.
“Let’s save this dress for another occasion. Preferably where only I see these.” He glanced down to indicate your legs, to which you sputtered and allowed him to guide you back inside the house.
And instead, he picked a pair of light-colored shorts and a loose summer-blouse. Kita knew you had a pair of black-and-white sneakers that would go with it anyway. You commented how it was almost scary that Kita knew your wardrobe, but he stated it simply:
I like what you wear. And I think it looks very agreeable on you.
It was simple and he stated it thusly. And from your reaction, it seemed as if it had made your day. From the beaming smile on your face to the new skip in your step, it was clear to him that he had amended the situation properly with your guidance.
But he still had the same issue: Kita thought he was being clear as day.
There was no one else he was spending time with like this. No one else whom Kita was expressing interest in like he was with you. From sharing ice-cream to hangouts alone with just the two of you, he thought his way of flirting with you was obvious? His actions alone should have been clear that he was showing his own interest in you.
And so if Kita was being clear with his feelings, why hadn’t you said anything?
This was not something he could just say and retract, either. The last thing he wanted to do was put your entire friendship on the line just to lose you. What if you actually did not feel the same way? But from your constant blushing and obvious gaze on him, you liked him too? But why hadn’t you said anything? Were you expecting him too?
He almost groaned aloud at this line of thinking.
Nothing had him flustered quite like you. Kita was confident both in school and on the court, a sure faith that no matter where it was. It was not a baseless arrogance, but more like a calm trust that he knew what he was doing was right.
And yet…
When it came to you, that brand of confidence simply withered away. Not always a bad thing, you often caught him off-guard with your own kindness and rarely did you ever truly fight. But there were times that he sorely wished he knew what was going on in that head of yours.
Like why hadn’t you said anything to him regarding this tension?
Or better yet, why the hell were you whispering with Atsumu in the gym closet?
The setter knew all about your being off-limits. Kita made it very clear that day and it seemed even then, the message did not totally receive in the asshole's mind. Or rather, it probably did, Atsumu just decided to ignore it.
And so on your shared walk home after practice, Kita gently grabbed your hand and did not let go. You almost jumped in surprise alongside him. Not that you hadn’t held hands before, but it was usually called for in the context. Navigating one of the twin’s parties, through a crowded group, or just to guide you somewhere.
But never had he held your hand for no reason.
Kita just smiled, hoping this would send a clear enough message to both you and the meddlesome boys behind you.
Meanwhile, Atsumu had to stop himself from cackling aloud. Osamu was ready to question his brother over what the hell was that about, but Suna assured him that it was best not to get involved at this rate. Aran simply sighed, but waved goodbye and goodnight to the rest of the team.
Your smile was a mask to your inward screaming, only to be silenced to a blank void. Your mind was comparable to that picture of spilled milk - the only thing inside as if the very act was an enigma. You had no idea what to say, what to do in this situation as you both continued to walk along.
For someone who was an athlete, the skin of his hand was surprisingly soft as it encased your own. You felt your hand unconsciously squeeze his and feared that the act would have him pulling away, as if waking him up from his act. But Kita squeezed back, a fond expression reflected back at you.
The two of you walked home together whenever you had the chance, unless called for by other duties. So this was usually normal for the two of you. Conversation was just easy, ranging from school or recent events, and even if one-sided you had no issues with simply speaking to the captain. And yet today…
Kita and you were both completely silent.
You couldn’t even tell if something else was on his mind, a neutral look on his face as he looked ahead. Was this action to show that he was reciprocating your feelings? You hated being unsure like this, but there was too much vulnerability to simply lay-out what you wanted to say.
Even on the train, Kita sat next to you quietly but still held your hand over his knee. You watched the action, before trying to level your breathing as to not freak out. But Kita kept going about his day, even taking out his phone to check a few texts with the other hand.
It was meant to show this was entirely on purpose.
Only when your house popped into view during something conspiratory popped into your mind - Did one of the boys tell him?
You felt the small seed of hope grow further. Was it just a coincidence that the day Suna and Atsumu found out about your secret was the same day, after literal years, that Kita found out as well? And that maybe if he knew now, was he reciprocating in some way?
You moved to glance at him in the corner of your eye, but he was already looking at you.
The both of you stopped short of the gate, but you hesitated for a second to say anything. There was so much on your mind and stewing in silence was the exact opposite thing you wanted to do. Before you could even think of words to say, your captain made the first move again.
Kita tenderly reached for your other hand, holding both in his much larger ones. He brought them up together and shot you a gentle smile, “(F/N), your hands are so soft.”
It came out like word vomit.
“I like you, Kita!”
SHIT.
Maybe you read him wrong?? If he was going to make a move, why was he looking at you so surprised??
“And here I was, wanting to say something first.” Kita said as he chuckled lightly, his hands gliding the rest of the way up your arms. “I like you, too.”
You didn’t even have time to overthink, Kita wasting no time and pulling you towards him. Quickly raising your hands to his chest, you steadied yourself against him as he held you in the close embrace. His smile was almost blinding - not from the size, but rather the genuine feel behind it.
Your hands slid upwards, folding behind his neck as your faces drew closer together. One of his hands gently carded in your hair, lightly guiding you to him. You closed your eyes in silent anticipation, long awaited joining finally happening with only stars as your audience.
The skin of his lips slotted gently against yours and you silently relished the feel of the prolonged peck. You pulled him closer, silently nudging him to go the step further. Kita smiled in response, making you beam right back at him. It was honestly hard to deepen the kiss further, expressions pulled from your shared grins. You were two idiots smiling at one another, foreheads pressed together as you struggled to deepen your impassioned kiss.
“I’ve waited so long to hold you like this.” Kita whispered against your lips, one of his hands resting around your waist.
“Me too.” You replied in a low vice, eyes still closed as you just felt him.
He watched your cute expression, from your rosy appearance to the way you deliciously leaned your body into him. Kita felt his eyes shutter closed, savoring the feeling of you two finally joined. You moved together in tandem, softly at first, and then with a swift intensity that made you cling to him even further - as if Kita was the only solid thing in this suddenly swaying world.
The world was constantly moving, either too fast or too slow or too much at times. Until finally, in Kita’s arms, it finally felt right.
“I’ve liked you for a really long time.” You confessed.
“I know.” Kita responded simply, “Me too.”
You almost wanted to laugh, but withheld it from possibly breaking the atmosphere. “Is it really that simple?”
“Yes.” Kita said as he smiled, moving to place a light kiss on your forehead. “I was honestly… afraid to say anything in fear of your response. But now we are both aware, right?”
You grinned back and stretched on your tippy-toes to kiss his cheek, “Yes.”
“That’s it then.” Kita stated as he leaned his forehead back against yours, “You’re mine. And I’m yours.”
You whispered back, “Sounds like a deal.”
His insistent mouth parted your eager lips, sending wild tremors crawling up your spine, evoking sensations you had never known you were even capable of feeling. And as the swimming giddiness spun you round and round, you steadied yourself to kiss him back just as passionately. With a swipe of his tongue against the crease of your lips, you parted your mouth eagerly.
There was no battle, no insistent fight between your two appendages. There was only Kita, eagerly roaming around your mouth as you sensually rubbed tongues. You openly moaned at the feeling, not even noticing the noise until Kita was smiling in response.
You blushed at the realization, but Kita only complimented the sound. “Make that noise again for me.”
Your smile dropped to a more sultry smirk.
“You’ll have to earn it.”
Kita felt his eyes comically widen before dropping to a half-lid, “Oh?”
“My parents aren’t home…”
“Oh.”
Kita placed a kiss on your forehead just to lean away, one of his hands dropping to grab your own. You hurried along with his pace, suddenly breaking out into a faster walk in the direction of your home.
“Let’s make up for lost time, shall we?”
BONUS:
“No way.” Jisoo commented on the sight before her, nudging Atsumu standing next to her. The twin’s party was ravaging around them, but there was an unlikely and yet very likely couple that had just walked through the door. And while it was normal to see the two of them together, it was the first official time as an exclusive couple.
Walking in was Kita and you, hands clasped together like this was oh so natural.
Akagi greeted the both of you with a smile while Aran waved you guys over to the living, where many of the other team members were playing a game. Kita guided you through the party, joined hands proudly on display for all party goers.
Atsumu held out a hand in Jisoo direction’s, causing her to frown but nonetheless place some lost yen in his open palm.
But seeing you smile and share a kiss openly with the captain, Jisoo didn’t exactly mind losing this bet.

A Reader Lives a Thousand Lives // D.M.
Summary: How could you describe your affinity for books? How could you explain what they mean to you? Draco tries to understand; he’s tried to understand for years.
A/N: I’m going to be honest: I’m struggling. I don't have writer’s block, but I am so busy atm that I feel awful about not being so active. I’m a key worker in the latest lockdown and my workload has tripled. On top of that, I have be tested twice a week and that’s enough to drain you completely. This isn't a long fic, and it probably isn't my usual standard, so please forgive me.
Warnings: book talk, lots of fluff, dates, friends to lovers, pining, mutual pining, dialogue heavy
Word count: 2.1k
Tumblr media
How could you describe your affinity for books?
They had been there for you in times where not even your closest friends could offer you the best advice. They were there for you with every shift of your mood; you knew that you could turn to your shelves and somewhere, nestled between paperbacks and hardbacks, there would be the perfect read for your mood.
Put simply, books were your life.
Friends and family would fondly chuckle whenever they saw you, nose deep in whatever book had caught your attention. They knew not to disturb you. Instead, they knew to be there when the inevitable end would fall upon you, dragging you through its cliff-hanger or perfectly wrapped up ending.
Draco Malfoy had known you years, and he had never known you not to have a book in your hands or in your bag. On occasion, he had known you to carry a book in both, wanting something there in case you finished your current read.
He’s tried to understand your love of books. He’s a reader himself, but he has never understood how you could lose yourself in a fantasy world so quickly. Magic runs through your veins, yet you find it easier to read of fae and vampires instead of the witches and wizards of old.
Draco gave up trying to understand you long ago; deciding simply to admire you from afar. He cherished the friendship with you; adored it even, and if that meant he had to spend his only free weekend from work in a book shop with you, then so be it.
-------------
In Wizarding London there weren’t many places that catered to the publications of both muggle and magical authors. Flourish and Blotts was an excellent bookshop, but only housed books by wizards and witches. If one wanted something written by a muggle but did not want to wander into muggle society, they were best off wandering down a cobbled side street in Diagon Alley to Page Turners.
Draco knew the moment that he opened his front door to you this morning, that he was going to wind up walking through the front door of Page Turners. He had just finished his first chart review when his doorbell rang, and your knocking began. He made sure to put the lid on his fountain pen before answering the door to you.
Dark brown shelves line every wall, bordering the shop before giving away to shelves centred in the middle of the room. At first glance, the books seemed chaotic – hardbacks tucked in between smaller paperbacks, but upon closer inspection, it was clear that the books were doubled. For every paperback, there was its hardback equivalent. It looked like it shouldn’t make sense, but the further you walked into the shop, the more sense it made.
Every reader is particular. There are those who will only exclusively read paperbacks, preferring how portable they are. But there are those who much prefer hardbacks, wanting nothing more than to admire the foiled covers and sprayed edges that one can only get on special editions. The set-up of the shelves perfectly catered to that.
“Draco,” You gasp, trying your best to keep your hands to yourself until you found the books you wanted to take home with you, “Have you ever seen a place so wonderful?”
Draco’s eyes don’t leave your form as he answers, “I don’t know, I’ve seen some spectacular sights in my time.”
You don’t respond to the light flirtation, but Draco doesn’t miss the smile that crosses your face. You refuse to admit just how he makes your heart race with comments such as that; they fall from his mouth so easily that you often find yourself tied up in your emotions, wondering when on earth your feelings had turned from platonic to romantic.
Inhaling that all too familiar smell of worn leather and paper, you feel Draco’s presence behind you as you potter through the store, taking in the sheer amount of choices before you. “What’s your favourite book?” You ask absentmindedly, eyes still pouring over the surnames of authors.
He shrugs, shamefully admitting, “I haven’t read anything other than a medical journal in years.”
“Still,” You argue, “You must have a favourite book.”
He’s silent, pondering your words as he thinks back to the last time he was able to relax and read something that wasn’t for work. He thinks back to his childhood, practically hearing his mother’s voice in his ears as she recites her favourite fairytales before sending him to bed.
“It’s been so long,” He whispers, casting his gaze across the shop, in awe at the sheer amount of books he has not read.
“Then we should find you a new book to read,” You decide, stating your words with conviction as you reach for the blonde’s hand, beginning to pull him through the stacks of shelves like a woman on a mission.
“When would I have the time?” Draco argues, refusing to let go of your hand as you stop in front of a shelf filled to the brim with books.
You arch an eyebrow, “I think if I were to ask the nurses at St. Mungo’s, they would much prefer it if you would read a book instead of taking work home with you every night.”
“How do you know I do that?”
You snort, laughter brightening your eyes, “Because I know you, Draco.” Your expression turns more serious, “You need to take some time for yourself, Dray. You can’t work this hard all the time and not expect some repercussions.”
“I’m taking time for myself right now,” Draco counters, gesturing between you both with his free hand. He wasn’t going to let go of your hand until he had to; he enjoyed feeling your skin against his too much.
You roll your eyes, “You would be sat at home finishing charts if I hadn’t have shown up on your doorstep demanding your attention.”
Draco refuses to answer; knowing full well that you’ve caught him out. Before you showed up at his front door this morning, he had in fact been planning on spending the day in his office, finishing charts and then reading the latest journal on healing potions.
It hits him like a freight train then – how much time he has dedicated to his work, how much of his life had already given it. Draco adores being a Healer; much preferring this job to what was expected of him from his father. He walks into St. Mungo’s with anticipation and excitement settling deep within his bones because no two days there are the same; he doesn’t know what cases are going to land in his lap.
Yet, he gives so much of himself over to it that there is little left for him to enjoy. It happened slowly; Draco supposes. Taking a few charts home here and there, for him to finish in the comfort of his office, but then it spiralled into staying hours after his shift had finished, working on budgets and chart reviews, making sure everything is up to the standard it should be for the only magical hospital in the British Isles.
Before long, he hadn’t had a free weekend to himself in close to a year. If he wasn’t working at the hospital, he was working from home. If he was at the hospital, he was taking case after case. It wasn’t until Mary, the Head Nurse, had cornered him that Draco agreed he would take the weekend to himself – no charts, no reviews, no nothing. Mary even checked his bag before he left the hospital.
“You’re right,” Draco admits, the words rushing out of him in one breath.
“I usually am,” You tease, a wide smile on your face, “But what am I right about this time?”
“I don’t take time for myself. I don’t do anything for myself.”
Your gaze softens as you squeeze his hand, “Let’s find you something to read. If we don’t find something here, we’ll think of another plan.”
Draco nods, squeezing your hand in return. “Lead the way,” He offers, curious as to what books you would choose for him.
It doesn’t take long for you to find what you think Draco would like. You stick close to his interests, knowing just how much they have changed from your shared time at Hogwarts.
Offering him three books, you explain, “One is written by a muggle doctor, he explains twelve cases that he worked on specially as he battled an illness he didn’t know he was going to survive. The second is a classic novel, also written by a muggle author that I think you should read when you have more time on your hands – it’s Victorian so longer sentences, longer headaches. The third book is a mystery book that I enjoyed, and I thought you would too.”
“Thank you,” Draco murmurs, taking the small pile of paperbacks from you, holding them close as he gazes over their covers, wondering what exactly what is about him that drew you to these three particular books.
“What do you think?” You ask, a note of vulnerability in your voice. Choosing books for others had never truly been your strong suit despite how much you read.
Draco remains silent for a moment as he flips the books over in his hands, reading the blurbs. You chew on the inside of your cheek, worry settling in your gut. There had been an ulterior motive to you showing up on his doorstep this morning; he needed to leave the house and go out. Having known him years, you knew that Draco would spend his only free weekend of the month working, and you were not standing for it any longer. He didn’t have to choose the books you had picked out; Merlin, he didn’t to read at all, but he needed to do something else other than work.
“Well?” You prompt before sighing, “You don’t have to read a book, Dray. We can find something else; I just don’t want you to spend all your free time working.”
Draco looks up from the books, a small smile on his face, “I’ll take them. I like the sound of the first one you described.”
The smile that graces your face at Draco’s words tells him that he had made the right choice. The anxiety leaves you in a rush, leaving nothing but relief behind.
“What about you?” Draco asks, turning the subject back to you, “What are you going to buy?”
You shrug, “I’ve already picked a few but I wouldn’t mind looking for more. That is, if you’re okay with that?”
Draco is more than okay with that. He follows you around the shop, taking the basket of books from you when it looks to be getting too heavy.
“Why do you read so many books?” Draco asks before he can stop himself.
“A reader lives a thousand lives,” You murmur, flipping through the pages of one particular paperback. Draco resists the urge to roll his eyes when he sees the cover: a half-naked man wrapped up in a passionate embrace with a scantily clad woman. Romance novels were your current obsession, reading through dozens of them and still not getting your fill.
“Let me take you on a date,” Draco asks suddenly, the first notes of shyness creeping into his voice.
It’s as he watches you flick through the pages of the book in your hand that draco realises he has done this for years. He has watched you for years fall into fictional worlds and come out the other side with a new part of you for him to discover. He has watched you fall in love characters only to feel foolish once he realises the keen sting of jealousy is over a person who does not and will not exist.
Draco has watched this for years, and as he watches you add the romance novel to your basket, he realises he could do this for a lot longer. He wants nothing more than to ignore his work for the weekend if it meant he could troll around bookshops with you, watching you find more fictional worlds for you to fall in love all the while loving you just as intensely.
“What would you have in mind?” You counter, raising an eyebrow in curiosity, giving in to the butterflies raging in your gut.
He smiles, nonchalantly leaning against one of the bookshelves, watching as you reach for spine after spine. Draco knows exactly what he would plan for your date, but he would be damned if he was to tell you. Instead, he crosses his arms and leans forward, “That’s for me to know, and for you to find out.”

After Class
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Pair: Remus Lupin x Reader; he/him.
Summary: You manage to catch up with Remus after class, not that it was hard to do. Lupin likes to keep in professional during school hours until you tell him your feeling lonely.
Warnings: SMUT (MDI), Oral, kinda fluffy, couple bickering because why not? If I forgot any, please dm me.
Notes: Sorry this took so long. Also, I’m sorry if the ending is weird, I’m uploading this at 3:40 AM because I haven’t posted in a day or two and wanted to put something out there.
~DO NOT REPOST ANYWHERE~
-
It wasn’t exactly a secret that you and Remus were dating, after all, he did confess his love to you in the middle of the Dining Hall when it was overflowing with students. You always wondered why then , why there and when you asked, you just got a short ‘it was the right time’ kind of answer.
In reality, Snape had edged him on, calling him a cowering imbecile for hiding his very obvious affection for you and went on and on until the teacher snapped. With that being said, during school, everything was kept strictly professional. No holding hands, no kissing in the halls, only weird sideways hugs and the occasional arm around your waist if he was leading you somewhere and it was driving you nuts.
On weekends you weren’t trapped in your offices grading papers, which you also did together, the two of you would go on cute dates. Whether it was a nice walk around Diagon Alley or going to the Three Broomsticks for a night out, and it was great, but it just felt like you never saw him outside of school. You didn’t get a lot of time alone with him, which is what led you to feeling lonely  and touch deprived.
It wasn’t like you wanted to shag in the hallways, you just wanted to like- hold his hand, maybe kiss his cheek. You were a couple. You felt you should have the right, since you were the DADA’s boyfriend, to walk down the hallways without a 3 foot gap between your bodies. In fact, you were going to go talk to him about it. A relationship is almost nothing without communication.
You shut your textbook with a slam, your dominant hand popping the quill down into the ink well as you stood up. You checked the watch on your wrist, taking in the time. Lupin should be finishing class in a few minutes, allowing you two to have alone time, hopefully. You’d finished teaching your students about a half hour ago and were planning for tomorrow's class before you decided to go confront your Moony.
You walked across the floor of your classroom, weaving between the desks to get to the door. You pulled it open easily and walked down the hall, not really caring about shutting the classroom door.
You walked down the nearly empty hall, waving to some of your students as you walked past with a smile. You took the familiar path to the outside of Lupin’s classroom and stood across the door, leaning your back against the wall. You thought it’d be best to wait outside then interrupt the class just to talk about a petty idea such as this.
Was this petty?
You bit your lip as you thought, your hands fiddling with your tie. What if you were being childish? You took in a deep breath, barely picking up on the students leaving your boyfriend's classroom. You politely said hello to students who recognized you and waved and walked into the classroom. You couldn’t help but smile at what was laid out in front of you.
Harry and Remus were clearly arguing over who got to keep the map the Weasley twins found and it was absolutely, heart wrenchingly adorable. You leaned your body against the door frame while Lupin pinched the bridge of his nose.
“Harry, for the last time, no. You can’t have it. I’m letting you get away with the invisibility cloak, don’t push my kindness.”
“But-!”
“I’d listen to him, Harry!” You tried not to giggle when they both whipped toward you. “He might lower your grade.” You put your hands in the pockets of your ves as you walked into the classroom. You couldn’t help but smirk when Harry laughed and Lupin groaned.
“Oh wow! Would you look at the time!” Harry basically yelled out as he booked it out of the classroom. He was just a blob of blushing skin as he ran, almost running into a desk, then the door frame.
“Don’t you have papers to grade, Professor (L/n)?” Remus crossed his arms over his chest, cocking an eyebrow in your direction.
“I don’t, actually. Just outlining tomorrow's work, but I thought I’d come see my oh so loving boyfriend instead.” You stepped up to him, but turned to Harry when the student faked a gag. “Stop acting like you aren’t drooling over your best friend's sister.” You rolled your eyes.
You couldn’t stop the loud chortle that left your body as you almost collapsed to the ground. You always love it when Remus reverts to his sassy self. You straighten yourself out then walk to the professor, a cheeky grin still spread across your features.
“Don’t act like no one notices Harry!” You called out to him as he sped past you, laughing at his mess of a human state. “He’s so precious.”
“Yeah, but he’s just like James.”
“How so?”
“A pain in my arse.”
“But you love him.” You wrapped your arms around his waist and pulled him into a hug, smiling wider when his arms snaked around your waist. You hid your face against his shoulder when he scoffed.
“No, I love you. I just sorta tolerate him.” One of his hands was rubbing up and down your back now and you basically melted into his embrace with a sigh. “Stressed, love?”
“A little.” You pulled back and looked into his gray eyes. Your hands fidgeted along his waist and your bottom lip became trapped between your teeth as your eyes gazed over his shoulder. “More so just.. Kinda feeling lonely?”
“Ok, well, how about we go to the Three Broomsticks again this weekend? Just the two of us..” Remus gave you a bright smile, his hands moving from your back to your shoulders before giving them a soft squeeze.
“We do that almost every weekend, Moony. I just- Everyone knows. Why can’t we be a couple during school hours? We spend 7 days a week, who knows how many hours in this castle and I can’t even hold your hand during dinner. Like I wanna do that cute couple walk down the hallway..” You stepped away from him to cross your arms over your chest and kick up some invisible dirt. Remus smiled when your force morphed into a pout.
“Aw, is someone feeling isolated from their loving boyfriend?”
“Remus, this isn’t the time for your teasing.” You stuck your tongue out when he stepped over to you.
“Ok, you’re right. I’m sorry, (Y/n).” The professor cupped your cheeks gently, rubbing his thumb along your cheek. “Here, how about this, hmm?” He peaked your lips gently. “How about I make it up to you, yeah? I don’t have papers to grade until tomorrow, so I’m free for the rest of today.” Remus squished your cheeks together, pecking your now puckered lips before his hands dropped to your shoulder.
“I.. Yeah, that works.” You smiled gently, giggling a little. “What, Remus!” You squeaked out as he set you on the desk. You watched his hand reach across the desk and pick up his wand. He spelled the door shut and locked it with a charm before closing most of the shades on the windows, diming the room. He set the wand back down on the desk before setting his hands on our thighs.
“What, love? You're the one that said he was all lonely, I’m just gonna help you out.” He licked his lips before attaching his mouth to yours. His arms trailed down your thighs, spreading them slowly and carefully before lowering himself to his knees.
“W-wait, Moony, you don’t have to-”
“It’s ok.” Remus laughed, his eyes gazing up at you while his palm rubbed between your legs. “Let me handle this, ok, love?” His voice was soft and smooth, leaving you wanting more. He grinded his palm into your bulge, his other hand coming up to undo your belt, loving the way your breath hitched in your throat. When his eyes locked with yours, he shot you a wink paired with a dirty smirk.
Your hands ran through his hair, messing up the gel holding it in place. You bit your lip when he undid your trousers and didn’t even bother pulling them down, just your boxers to reveal your half hard mass. You let out a whine when he spat into his palm and gently stroked over your dick causing you to grow harder. Your eyes fluttered shut when he planted a kiss to your clothed thigh.
“Godric, you’re amaz-” Your voice caught in your throat when his hot mouth wrapped around the head of your dick. “Oh, fuck-” Your head back between your shoulders and your hand gripped onto the edge of the desk for stability. His tongue moved against your hard flesh like it was a lollipop. A shaky sob of his name escaped you when he pulled off to lick a long strip on the underside of your wood.
“Yes, love?” His hands massaged your shuddering thighs, a chuckle escaping him easily. His eyes were blown up with lust.
Your thighs clamped around his head, your hand coming to cover your mouth. Your eyes squeezed shut as you white knuckled the desk. His throat was so wet and warm it caused your brain to reboot. Your arm gave out when he started moving he started bobbing his head. Your back hit the desk with a thud, causing him to glance at you through his lashes. Remus would’ve chuckled at your glazed expression but he was kinda busy.
“Please, for the love of Merlin and wizards who haven’t experienced your very, very talented mouth, please continue. Please.” You curled and uncurled your toes, spreading your legs wider. “Don’t make me beg, Lupin, I swear-”
“Relax, love. There’s no need to beg. I got you.” Remus cut you off, chuckling before wrapping his lips around the head once again, his free hand rubbing along the length slowly twisting closer to the top causing another moan to echo in the empty classroom.“Sh, (Y/n)! School is still going for some and I’m sure you don’t want them to hear us shagging.” He pulled away to tease you just before slowly swallowing your length.
He held your hips down against the desk when you tried to hump upward, and only felt encouraged by your whines. His eyes bore into yours as he swallowed around your length. One of his hands from your hip slowly slid upward, traveling up your stomach to your chest. Your back arched off the desk when his fingertips brushed across your nipple.
“Fuck, love. How are you so good at this?” You didn’t even need an answer. You bit down on your palm when he started humming around your length. He was going to suck the soul out of you if he weren’t careful. “Oh, Godric, I’m gonna cum, Remus.” Your voice was as shaky as a newborn fawns legs.
Remus nodded his head, silently giving you permission to go on ahead. You sobbed into your palm when he went back to humming around your length in his throat. You came quickly, which Remus swallowed down just as quickly. He pulled back quickly before kissing the head and standing up with his hands on his hips. His eyes trailed across your body before landing on your flushed face as you tried to catch your breath and raised an eyebrow.
“Am I really that good, hun?”
“Keep up that attitude and your gonna start sounding like Sirius.” You grumbled while propping yourself up on your elbows to tuck yourself away. You eyed the male standing in front of you before tilting your head. “Do you want help with that?” You lazily pointed to his bulge.
“Maybe that’s a good thing. But no, (Y/n). I’m all set.” Remus chuckled, walking around to the head of the desk, looking down at your face with a smirk. You groaned in response while running a hand through your hair. You stared up at his grinning face before reaching up to the ceiling and making a grabby motion with your fingers. “What’s that?”
“Give me snuggles.”
Lupin rolled his eyes before moving a few things around on the desk to lay next to you. It surprised you when he finally laid down, his arm going under your head to cushion it from the hard wood. You never expected your boyfriend to do something as silly as lay across his very messy desk.
“What? Do I have something on my face?” Remus whipped away at his mouth, his eyebrows furrowing. You didn’t even notice when you started staring at him.
“No, no, I.. Just.. You’re so perfect. I love you, Moony.” Your eyes must’ve been reflecting your emotions because he looked at you with a soft grin and eyes filled with admiration.
“I love you too.” He laughed out, rolling his eyes. “So! What do you wanna do this weekend instead of the usual. It can be anything and we’ll d-.”
“Dragon hunting.” You spoke up without hesitation.
“.. (Y/n), no-”
“But you said anything!” You let out a groan.
“You know what I meant! Dragon hunting is dangerous! And why hunt them?” Remus had turned on his side at this point to give you a look with furrowed eyebrows.
“I dunno, sounds fun!” You stuck your tongue out at him. You watched him carefully, waiting for the perfect moment to speak up again. Once he laid back, eyes closed and grumbling to himself about how crazy your ideas could be, you spoke up.”So no dragon hunting?”
“(Y/n), love of my life, apple of my eye.” he cupped your cheek, allowing you to lean into it. His expression was similar to the one he gave misbehaving students and he didn’t even bat an eye when you pulled out the puppy dog eyes. “No means no.”
“Fine then.” You groaned again, smacking his hand away from your cheek playfully. “Be like that.” You crossed your arms and rolled over and scooted over, your back facing him. However, you didn’t take into account how small his desk was, which led to you losing your balance and falling with a thud to the floor. Remus didn’t wait to scurry over to the edge of the desk and peer over it.
“You ok, hun? Anything bruised?”
“Only my pride.”
“That can’t be true! Come on, stand up. Let me check you out.” He slipped off the desk with a chuckle and walked over, gently guiding you up to a standing position as he checked over you.
“Oh, please, Remus, I’m fine!” You smiled at him as you brushed dirt and dust particles off your uniform. “It was, what? 2 feet drop? It wasn’t like I went skydiving without a parachute on.”
“I am never letting you go skydiving.” Remus rubbed his temples.
“Dammit! That was my next request!”
“In fact, I think we’ll just have a nice evening at the Three Broomsticks again.”
“Oh come on!”
The two of you kept on bickering for what seemed like forever. You kept shouting insane date ideas while he tried to remain rational. What you didn’t know is that your bickering had created a crowd of students just outside your door. The students had even taken sides and were bickering between them as you went. Soon, however, the room became quieter, causing the crowd to disperse.
The next day, you were seen holding hands with your boyfriend while walking down the halls of the big castle, bright grins on both of your faces.

I'd die for you. | G.W

I would like to apologise in advance for this one, it has taken me two full days of tears and breaking my own god damn heart.
Let me know if you want to be on the taglist my loves💞

Never make a promise you don't intend to keep. That's what my mum always taught me, so in the lead up to the Seven Potters I promised George that even against my best judgements, I'd stay back at the burrow and wait for his arrival.
"If you keep biting those nails, you'll have none left, dear!" Molly said, sitting next to me, wrapping an arm around my shoulders "Before you know it, they'll all be walking through that doo-" A loud splash echos around the quiet surroundings of the countryside, causing Ginny to jump from the chair and run outside, greeting Harry and Hagrid on their arrival. All too quickly I hear Lupin's voice yelling, causing everyone to look in the direction of his voice. My heart fell to the pit of my stomach.
My mind went blank in the next few moments, I was stood there watching Lupin carry the weak and limp body of love of my life into the confines of the Burrow. Ginny grabs my hand, pulling me inside when she notices that I hadn't moved an inch. I thanked Merlin that he was still breathing, but the blood rushing from his ear made me question how he wasn't unconscious.
"Take a picture, it'll last longer." he jokes, feigning a small smile at me as he reaches for my hand, which I let him take, dropping to kneel by his side. My other hand reaching up to brush the hair from his eyes.
"George, you never cease to amaze me how you can still be smiling when you've lost an ear," he squeezes my hand tightly, almost to check I was still there, "who am I if I can't even make the woman I love smile?"
I press a small kiss to his hand, giving him a reassuring smile. I feel a hand on my shoulder, looking up to see Fred staring down at me, he moves to join me beside his brother, "How're you feeling, Georgie?" George takes a deep breath before speaking up.
"Saint like," he smiles, I look to Fred, who has a worry in his eye, I give him a reassuring look as I give George's hand a squeeze, "Come again?" George lets go of my hand, straining to reach up and point at his own ear "I'm holey, get it Fred?"
"The whole wide world of ear related humor and you go for 'I'm holey'... It's pathetic" The twin smiles, looking down at his hands that sat nicely in his lap, "Recon I'm still better looking than you, at least Y/N still thinks so, right angel?" I smile nodding as a small blush rises to my cheeks, I lean in to press a gentle kiss to his forehead, earning a small but weak smile from him.
After about 10 minutes of arguing over who would clean up George's ear, I convince Molly that I was more than happy to take care of her son, especially as I've been patching the twins up after any and all mishaps at the shop. She obliges, despite her motherly instincts kicking in, helping me guide George into the bathroom. We seat him ontop of the toilet seat, nestling between his legs as I gently dab a warm cloth over the side of his face, clearing away all of the blood. I find myself taking in every freckle, every little scar on his face, the way his cheeks were so full and how he was just so perfect, making me realise how much I loved him.
"How did I ever get so lucky?" he smiles up at me, his hands holding onto the backs of my thighs, as my hand holds his chin in place, starting the task of cleaning the blood from his ear. I try to make sureBeing careful to be more gentle every time he winces. "If you're lucky, Georgie, imagine how I feel waking up to you every morning."
"Promise me something," I push back his hair so that it's out of the area, grabbing some antiseptic. "If it's that the antiseptic won't hurt, then there's nothing I can do my love, just bite down on this." I give him a towel which he places between his teeth. The sounds he made as the alcohol cleaned his wound broke my heart, but it was in his best interest. I pull out my wand, casting a small spell to deal with the stitches while he's still biting down on the cloth, causing him to groan again, but this time it was more of a wince then full on cries of pain. I wrap a bandage around his head, holding some gauze in place to help with the bleeding.
"If I didn't love you so much, I'd be swearing this house down by now," he says, pulling the cloth from between his teeth, I reach to wipe away his stray tears that linger under his eyes and on his cheeks. "Now my love, what am I promising you?"
He goes to stand up, quickly deciding against it as he sits back down. I take his hands again, rubbing my thumbs across the back of his hands, he pasuses for a moment, almost as if he's unsure of what he's about to ask, however the grin that he pulls his lips into dispells any worry. "I want you to promise me that you'll still love me with one ear."
"Georgie, I'd die for you, regardless how many ears you may or may not have, you're the love of my life." I laugh, leaning down to finally press a kiss to his lips, moving one of his hands to the small of my back and tgr other to the back of my head, keeping me pulled into the kiss for a little longer.
The next few months were weird and uncertain, Diagon Alley becoming quieter and quieter, I begged George to move back to the Burrow so that we'd be out of the madness and true to his word we did, Molly helping me work with him on his sickness and growing vertigo. Harry, Ron and Hermione were off hunting horcruxes and every morning I got a gut feeling that things were going to get worse.
Beams of Green and Red were flying all around me as I ran through the corridors of hogwarts. The sounds of crying, screaming and yelling were all I could hear. A head of firey red hair, pops around the wall which I spot out of the corner of my eye, he was fighting off Death eaters like it was nothing when suddenly he's thrown to the floor, his wand flying from his hand. I'm trying to run towards him but I feel like I can't move, every muscle in my body is resisting.
"Avada Kedavra!" suddenly the body of the man I love goes lifeless before me, I scream at the top of my lungs, my body finally giving in as I collape at his side, wailing from the pit of my stomach.
"no, no, no... Wake up! Please wake up, My love, just open-" "your eyes, shh, it's okay, I'm here, it's just a dream, baby." my tear stained cheeks, and small shallow breaths were enough for George to realise that it wasn't a normal dream, the protective part of him pulling me into his arms, rocking me gently as he coos my sobs, which grow less and less violent as I'm brought back to reality
"I'm sorry." I whisper as his hand plays with my hair, soothing me to a point where I can finally breathe again, "don't be, when you screamed like that i thought something was happening to you, I swear whatever was hurting you like that I'd take the brunt, I'd die for you, my angel."
"Don't say that." I breathe, shaking my head as I press a soft kiss to his jaw, "no dying, not for me, Georgie." he holds me tighter, leaning down to connect our lips in a soft kiss. "no dying, got it."
I hadn't seen George in a month, we decided that with the death eaters still roaming the streets, it would be better if we both went into hiding. My aunt, who has two witches herself, was keeping me safe, telling her girls to stay in Australia for their own safety. I hear a small knock on the door, Aunt Melinda poking her head into the room.
"This just came inside one of my letters, it's for you, darling." I smile at her, taking the letter gratefully, I recognise the handwriting immediately, opening up the envelope to a gorgeous hand-written letter.
To My Angel,
Merlin, I miss you. Dad told me about how the whole muggle mail thing works and I think I enjoy it more than mail by owl. I think personally that it was a stroke of genius to write to you like this because I know theres no way that the death eaters will go looking through muggle mail.
I want nothing more than to hear your voice again, to touch your skin, feel you next to me when I wake. Oh, Speaking of sleep, how are your nightmares? I don't sleep much these days so I hope you're resting better than I am.
Dad says the order has been checking on the house and the shop regularly, they think the burrow will be safe again soon, I hope you'll join the family and I because I have something I need to ask you and I don't want to do it over a letter.
I love you always and forever.
Georgie
I hold the letter close to my heart, longing to feel his presense again. The nightmares haven't been getting any better, no matter what I do, I don't get to him in time and I have to watch him die in front of me over and over again, knowing that I could've saved him. A wave of pain and sadness washes over me as I curl myself into a ball, under the covers, praying that the duvet becomes his arms and that I don't fall asleep to see his lifeless eyes again.
Two months later, finally stood in each other's arms, kissing again in the room where it all started for us. For a moment I'm taken back to Dumbledore's Army and the hours George and I spent as we snuck into the room of requirement, him helping me perfect my patronus, giving me the happiest memory of all when he kissed me for the first time.
We stood by the window, away from everybody, talking and making up for lost time, holding onto me like he wouldn't ever let go again, every time I looked at him, I was smiling, my heart doing backflips.
"I wanted to ask you this before it all gets crazy," he smiles taking both of my hands as he gets down on one knee, pulling out a ring from his pocket. "I was going to ask you when you were mending my ear, I wish I didn't catch myself out and that I'd asked you then and there because being away from you made me realise that I can't spend another day without you, I love you so much, you're the best thing to have ever happened to me so I want to make us last forever, that's if you still love me, even with one ear."
I giggle, taking the ring and slipping it onto my finger as I nod frantically. I wanted nothing more than to be with George forever, even if he only had one ear.
I don't think any of us realised we were fighting a war until the bodies of people we cared about started to pile around us. I was fighing for everything I had, until I couldn't breathe, a sense of dread washing over me when I realised I'd been fighting alone. I was running around the castle and everything felt like slow motion. That was until I stumbled into the great hall and suddenly time felt real again.
Ginny was holding me back from stepping closer to any of the family, I caught a glimpse of the redheaded boy who looked to be asleep on the floor, his twin sobbing next to him as the family wept. "It's freddie, Y/N" she whispers, "Fred's gone."
Every wail and sob from every nightmare came back to me at once, pushing past Hermione to wrap my arms around George, letting him cry into my arms, and there we stay for as long as he needed.
When It felt like it was all over, we believed Harry was Dead, that this was the end, that everything we had worked for was short lived. I cried into George's shoulder, hugging his side, it felt like a part of all of us had gone. So when Harry reveals himself to truly be alive we were all in a state of shock, moving as one to finish what was started if not for us then for those we lost.
The fight was not over. Beams of Green and Red were flying all around me as I ran through the corridors. The sounds of crying, screaming and yelling were all I could hear. It's like I'd done this a thousand times. I saw the man I loved, from the corner of my eye, he was fighting off Death eaters like it was nothing, when suddenly he's thrown to the floor, his wand flying from his hand. I realised, I had done this before. It was all de ja vu and before I could think, I run and jump in front of the spell that was meant for him, taking it with the full force of my body.
The next few moments felt like no time at all, like both nothing and forever. He held my body in his arms as I reach up to press my hand against his cheek, feeling the last of my life slip away from me, "I love you, George, even if you do only have one ear."
Never make a promise you don't intend to keep. When I told George I would die for him, I truly meant it. When I told him I'd love him forever I meant it. I continued on with him for years, watching him heal and mourn Fred and I. The thing that hurt the most was hearing him still talk to me, like he feels me there, "I made your favourite, mum's cinnamon rolls, she doesn't make them much anymore, I don't think she will without your help." he smiles down at his plate, pulling the roll in half, before letting out a deep breath, placing the other half down and sliding it across the table.
I'm hugging him but he can't feel me there, I'm there every night, curled up next to him but he doesn't feel me hold his cheek anymore. He's sat in the dark, tears rolling down his cheeks, "I know you're here, I can feel you with me but not Freddie." he wipes away his tears, pulling a pillow into his chest. "I hope he's okay, would've been nice of him to leave me one of his ears, it's not like he ever used them anyway." George Weasley, you never cease to amaze me how you can still be smiling when you've lost all that you have.
He never loved another woman, even when he tried, by Godric I wanted him to be happy, even if it wasn't with me. He was sat on the bed, clutching the photo of him and I as he played with the engagement ring he gave me. "I live for you my Angel, If only there was a way you could have lived for me."

Visions of the cove came back to Fred as he slept, flashes of gentle waters turning into threatening waves. He tossed his body around for most of the night, struggling to understand what the missing piece was in his half-drunken slumber.
Then the screams had sounded within his nightmare, the sight of the beloved girl sinking into the sand as he found himself bound up on the private beach, unable to reach out and save her. All he could do was shout out for her until his throat ran dry.
“Y/n…” He mumbled as he woke, fearing that the unruly dream had become reality when he looked over to her side of the bed. Empty.
Maybe she was in the kitchen, or maybe she had slept in her room. There were a number of explanations for why she wasn’t beside him that very second, but the man couldn’t help but fear for the worst when he saw the untouched pillow.
“George!” He shouted, the noise echoing throughout the loft. His brother emerged from the hallway as he raced down the stairs with panic.
“What is it- hey! What’s wrong?” “Where’s y/n?” He asked shakily.
“Haven’t seen her, I thought she was sleeping with you?” “She’s not here,” Fred began to pace the living room, worrying about her absence above anything else.
“Then check downstairs she’s probably getting dressed.” As much as George knew he should be concerned about it all, he hated to jump to conclusions- especially when they hadn’t explored every possible reason for her being gone.
The twins wasted no time rushing down to the shop, the alley outside still quiet in the early morning. Fred pushed her door open, staring down at the room before him with a silent cry. George was close behind, quick to catch the other man’s body before it hit the ground.
“Hey - come on, she might have just popped out.” He tried to reason, but even his heart told him differently.
“I can tell, okay… it feels like that night all over again.” “It won’t be, I promise you Freddie- what the hell is that noise?” George’s attention was taken by a faint shout sounding out in the alley, one that they could only hear by the girl’s bedroom window. Fred didn’t seem bothered, presuming that his brother was just trying to distract him from the harsh reality that y/n was gone.
“D-Do you think it was those guys?” He asked from the doorway, his back propped against the wall.
“It sounds like someone’s out there…” George ignored.
“Georgie! I asked you someth-” “Shhh- It sounds like… no... “ “What? I can’t hear anything” “Come on.” The man moved away quickly, leaving Freddie to scramble to his feet alone and chase him through the shop.
“What the hell are you doing, we need to find y/n!” He hissed out, following as George burst out of the front door, the small jingle behind them seeming like an understatement. He followed the noise through the alley like a dog, forgetting that he was only in pyjamas. “You don’t even have shoes on!” The other man tried to tell him, but there was no use.
But the closer they got, the louder the shouts became, and even Fred couldn’t deny it any longer. It was desperate, but subdued, like whoever was crying for help had been doing so for hours now. It was a painful sound when they reached where the person was, both men stopping at the entrance of the particular street to take in the strange sight before them.
“Neville?” Both twins asked, quaintly reminiscent of the way they had spoken his name in unison back when they all went to Hogwarts together. This time, however, was slightly different. This time Neville Longbottom was tied up and gagged, left with bruises all over his face.
“Oh god, what the hell happened to you?” Fred rushed forwards, pulling the strip of fabric from his mouth and untying his hands as he told them.
“She’s gone,” Neville cried, tears streaming down his face. “I’m so sorry, I tried to stop him, but h-he had a knife, and he knew where Hannah was. I couldn’t warn y/n in time, he’d already taken her by then.”
“Taken! Taken where?” The man urged, pulling his friend to his feet once the restraints were gone.
“I don’t know- he knocked me out once he had her.”
“Well what did he look like- did he mention anyone else? Was it those guys who broke in here?” Fred couldn’t stop asking him questions, constantly thinking up something else that he might need to know about the missing girl’s assailant.
“Hey, give him some space freddie.” George held his brother’s shoulder, seeing how scarily focused his eyes had become. “Why don’t we get Nev back to the inn, then we can all decide what to do.” The man nodded silently, standing aside to let his twin take Neville’s arm and help limp him through the alley and towards the leaky cauldron.
He was too beaten up to help, but they could get the other’s, they needed others. Whoever had taken y/n meant business, so Fred knew that in order to get her back alive, he would need as many people on his side.
“I’ll catch up with you guys!” He called, taking a different route through the streets and ending up back at the loft. He grabbed some clothes and a jacket and made haste to the floo line, taking a single clarifying breath before he announced where he wanted to go.
“The burrow!”
-
Molly Weasley was nursing a hangover in her kitchen, enjoying the peaceful morning and the sun which beamed onto her skin through an open window. Arthur was in his armchair, skimming over the business section of that day’s prophet and cursing the way that Ginny stomped around in her room above him, making him restart the paragraph numerous times.
The girl in question sloped down to her mother, a scowl on her face when she saw a list of chores written on the chalkboard. Ones that she was no doubt expected to do, regardless of the fact that she would be leaving that afternoon.
“Drink this Ginny darling, you’ll feel much better.” Molly held out a beaker to her daughter, filled with some strange blue liquid. It looked like a hangover cure and certainly smelt like one too, but when Ginny tasted the drink, it was hard to hide her disgust. So she held her breath and chugged it down fast, hoping the other two glasses that sat on the counter weren’t also for her.
“See to it that Harry and Ron take them too will you, they’re still asleep I presume?” Molly questioned.
“Nope, both headed out for a fly early this morning, probably stopped by the lake to watch the sunrise, like the pair of pansies they are.” She scoffed, biting back the urge to hurl at the blue liquid’s aftertaste.
“Well then they’ll be fine without these!”
“If I had to suffer through it then so should they.” Ginny argued, seeing a small wince on her mother's face when she slightly raised her voice. “Sorry, I’ll make sure they take it, okay?”
The older woman nodded, mumbling something about laundry before heading off to the garden. Ginny was about to make some coffee, the one thing she praised Hermione for teaching her about, when there was a flash from the family’s floo line, followed by a concoction of panicked shouts.
“What - what is it?” She asked, careering into the hallway to see Fred steaming through the house in search of familiar faces.
“Ginny!” He looked relieved to see her, something that was out of the ordinary for the man. “Where is everyone?” His eyes were wild, scanning around her like he was expecting a ghost to jump him.
“Dad’s in the living room, mum’s outside- hey what’s going on?” She followed him as he went in search of his parent’s, Arthur looked up from his paper when his son walked in.
“Hello Fred my boy, how come you’re here?” The man checked his watch with a frown, only noticing Freddie now that he had shown himself. Arthur had perfected the art of blocking out loud noises in his own home, given the amount of children he had, it was something he had no choice over.
“I need everyone at the leaky cauldron … now!” He announced, pacing about to try and find the rest.
“Tell us what’s going on.” Ginny grabbed his shoulders, pushing him onto the nearby sofa with a grunt. The girl always was stronger than she looked.
“It’s y/n, she’s been taken.” “She’s been WHAT!” Molly screeched, having only heard the end of their exchange as she came back into the burrow with a pile of clean clothes in hand. They fell to the floor in shock.
“Mum! You and dad go to the leaky, Fred will explain more-” Ginny started, seeing that no one in the room was in a right state of mind. “-I’ll go get the boys from the lake.” The two parents nodded, gathering their jackets and heading to the floo.
“I need to get Bill, will he be at work already?” Fred asked his sister.
“He should just be getting in now.” She told him, not wasting a single second before grabbing her broom to fetch Ron and Harry from their lake. “Now GO!”
Fred jumped into action, apparating back to diagon alley and weaving through the hoards of people walking into their bank to start their day. He managed to get into the first open lift, looking very out of place amongst the group of serious businessmen.
“Bill!” He didn’t dare knock on the door to his brother’s office, instead opted that forcing his way inside would express the severity a bit better instead. The man inside jumped at the intrusion, knocking the cup of coffee all over his desk in momentary shock.
“What the hell Fred, what are you doing here?” He frowned, mopping up the mess with silent curses.
“We need to go now, y/n’s been taken… Neville tried to stop it but the guys had a knife.” It took no more than that to get Bill to his feet, following his younger brother silently as he explained more on their way back down to the alley.
“Does anyone know where she could be?” He asked.
“Not for certain, but I have some ideas.” Fred huffed, out of breath from all the running he had done that morning. Still, he kept a fast pace to make it to the leaky before anything worse happened.
The inn was quiet, barely anyone around at that hour of the morning. Everyone was gathered inside, gathering as much information as they could from Hannah and Neville as they waited for Fred to return with his older brother.
“Are we all here?” George asked, letting everyone take a seat before speaking directly to the small ground of their friends and family. “Good. Now Neville was the only one to see the guy who took y/n, he was tall, hooded and held a knife up to his throat.”
Neville sat in Hannah’s arms, obviously still shaken up from being left out in the cold all night. His wife nodded along to George’s words with empty eyes, trying to rack her brain for anyone who took a strange liking to the girl when she still worked for them. Then again, that was the majority of men who came in, it would take months to whittle it down.
“Once he had y/n, the man knocked him out- so that’s all we know. Whoever he was he didn’t want anyone else knowing about it till morning, that’s why he tied Neville up.” Everyone was silent, unsure if they knew anything at all that could help. Still, they wanted to be there to do something to save the girl.
“Has y/n said anything recently that would suggest she was being followed, or did you notice her acting strange?” Arthur spoke up, all of his children shaking their heads.
Fred felt the most useless out of them all. If y/n had known anything, or noticed something was off, she would have told him right? Or was he overestimating how much the girl trusted him, after all, he hadn’t been there to stop those guys from breaking in.
“I don’t think this was a random attack, he knew what he was doing.” Neville’s voice was quiet, even amongst the shared silence.
“How do you mean?” George asked, leaning against the bar in desperate defeat, wracking his brain for where she could be.
“Whoever he was, he knew where to find her- who she was.” “So he was looking for her?” Fred spun round, his neck clicking in the process, even his body hadn’t woken up yet.
“I think he only took me because I saw him outside the shop, and knew I would be suspicious of it.”
The group nodded in agreement. This couldn’t be the same men from the break-in, they were locked up now under Kingsley’s demand. This was a targeted kidnapping, someone had sent this man after y/n. But, who would want her back that badly?
“Her parents.” Fred said, a murmur of understanding waving over the others as it clicked in their minds. “It has to be them, who else would go to such lengths.” “But how do we find them?” Ginny asked. “I mean, no one knows where they live right?”
Everyone shook their heads, murmuring ideas on how they could track her family home down, that was where she had to be.
“Actually,” Hannah stood up, making sure Neville was stable enough before letting go of him. “I might have some old paperwork in my office, I can’t remember for sure if there’s anything on it- but it’s worth a look right?” George nodded, giving Fred a sympathetic look as it was obvious he was struggling to come to terms with the situation. He had just gotten his life back, he was happy, they were happy and they were finally together. And now there was a chance she could be gone for good. It was a lot to deal with.
“Thanks Han,” He mumbled, when the lady passed him, stopping to squeeze his shoulder in meek support.
“Right, can you guys go find Hermione?” George asked Ginny and Ron. “See if she can find any records about the girl, or her parents.” The duo stood quickly, sending a patronas to the girl in question to get her up to speeds before they arrived.
But before they even had a chance to reach the door a flash of blue light fluttered in through the open window, freezing everyone in their steps. The little dove flew over to Fred, who eyes it curiously, no one seemed to recognise it. That was until it started screaming out it’s message in a disturbingly recognisable voice.
“Fred I’m sorry, I tried to fight him-” The voice lowered, as if someone was nearby her. “Come to crag hall,” She was out of breath and shaky as she spoke, all the while the dove floated through the air calmly. “Please be quick, they’re going to- no… no!” She screamed out, the message cut off just as she pleaded with whoever was in the room with her.
There was a tense silence throughout those inside the inn once her voice stopped, no one wanting to speak in case they missed something. But the dove disappeared into thin air, and she was gone again.
“They’ll have taken her wand.” Bill said, mostly to himself, trying to piece together what they knew in an attempt to help.
“Crag hall.” Fred whispered. “She said go to Crag hall… w-where is that?” He searched the room, praying that someone would recognise the name.
“It’s far.” Molly said, all eyes on her. “About three hours from london.”
“But we can apparate, yes?” George pushed her, suddenly more optimistic now that they had a chance to get her.
“Not all together of course, that would be dangerous.” She explained.
“Then we’ll go in pairs, signal back for the next group to come when we know it’s safe to do so.” George announced.
“I’ll go first, scout for any wards.” Fred told his brother, seeing the look of hesitation that George pushed away, knowing there was no convincing him otherwise.
“I’m coming with you.” Ginny said.
“No, it’s too dangerous. You stay back with Bill.”
“She’s my best friend. I'm not arguing about this.” The girl, unfortunately, was just as determined and stubborn as the rest of them.
“Fine, but you stay close- and you listen to what I tell you okay? We don’t know these people, they could be armed.” He took a deep breath, trying to fight away the feeling of impending doom that came along with all the uncertainty.
“Right. Bill, you’ll come with me, then Harry and Ron- mum, dad you’ll be the last okay?” The parents nodded and Molly silently thanked her son for letting her make sure they all got there okay before heading in herself.
Suddenly the inn’s door burst open and a very smartly dressed Hermione stumbled into the group, catching her breath with a small wheeze.
“I’m coming too.” She told them, holding her hand up when Ron tried to protest it. “Ginny?”
“Best friend card and all, you can’t stop her.” She told her brother and he shook his head in defeat, knowing the girl’s were both fiery enough to handle themselves if need be.
“You can come with me and Bill, the second group.” The girl nodded, stripping off her stiff suit jacket and transfiguring her pencil skirt into a pair of jeans. “If anything goes wrong with the trip- if any of you get hurt at all, then you hide.” Fred told them all, taking all the confidence he had within him and spewing it into the small speech. “It would be too risky to try and get back alone, so just stay hidden and we can get you when it’s over.” Everyone nodded, hoping that they wouldn’t need to utilise the advice given.
Fred stood, holding Ginny’s hand and looked over the room.
“Let us know as soon as you see anything,” George told them. The pair nodded in unison, ignoring Molly’s worried gaze as she watched them disapparate from the room with a loud crack.
-
Ginny felt like someone was crushing her lungs when they landed amongst the wall of trees just outside the grounds of Crag hall. The girl had tried to cough out, reaching around desperately for her brother who was struggling to find his feet.
The sheer distance they had travelled was dangerous, especially when it was two of them, but Fred knew as he held a hand over his sister’s mouth that the pain would eventually subside.
“Shhh, Gin.” The girl writhed beneath him as he watched the clearing ahead, where the house stood surrounded by walled gardens. “I’m sorry.” He whispered, not daring to draw any attention to themselves, just in case there were guards patrolling. “It’ll pass… I promise.”
Once she could breath without hacking her throat away, Ginny surveyed the sight before them, trying to plan out how they could approach unnoticed.
“Do you think there will be wards set up?” She asked her brother who crouched beside her, always watching behind them in case someone wanted to sneak up.
“Hard to tell. Chances are they presumed no one knew about this place, so they didn’t bother.” “But the patronus-” “Exactly, with any luck we can try and get through before they’re set up.” He explained.
There was a group of three men stationed at the front gates to the property, unknowing of the Weasleys’ presence.
“No one’s patrolling this side, send a message to George- tell him that it’s clear now- but to watch out for anymore guards.” “What about that lot?” “We have to take them ourselves.” He looked down, seeing a look of apprehension on the girl’s face. It had been a very long time since he had seen her intimidated.
“Hey, if we don’t do it then it’s risking the others- we got lucky.” Ginny nodded along, knowing that they had no other choice but to take them out, and quietly too.
The man took her hand, running a little further along the tree line before heading to the closest side of the walled garden. He boosted the girl up over it, watching carefully as she balanced herself and crouched low above it.
“I’ll take them from up here, catch them off guard- you get them from behind.” She told the man, before sneaking along the high wall.
Fred propelled himself into the neatly arranged flowerbed, suppressing his groan when he landed on his back, hoping that no one had heard the thud his body had made. There wasn’t enough time to think it through though, when there was a surprised shout and the sound of hexes flying through the air.
The noises silenced quickly as the man raced through the shrubbery towards the front gates, but the flashes of coloured light still appeared above the bushes that blocked his view of the fight.
Ginny, however, was someone Fred didn’t need to worry about. She had petrified one of the guards upon sight, before cutting the other two’s shouts with a silencing charm. That had given her an upper hand as she jumped down from the wall to avoid a hex being thrown her way.
Despite using her head, these men were twice her size, and wanted to use that against her. One of them lunged forward, trying to seize her as the other dodged around him with his wand outstretched.
But because of the guard tackling Ginny, it meant he couldn’t risk casting anything towards them in case he hit the wrong one. But it kept them busy long enough for Fred to stun the man from behind, before ripping the other off his little sister with a suppressed growl.
Once he had been stunned and tied up, along with the other two, Ginny sent her patronus to the others, warning them of other possible guards. The two kept to the edges of the walled garden, with the hopes that they could sneak up on the hall without causing anymore commotion.
The building was tall, with a very open courtyard preceding it.
“Through there,” Fred whispered, pointing to the nearest door on the left side of the house. “We should avoid being out in the open.” He told her.
-
Y/n watched out of her bedroom window, wandless and alone, in a room that felt like it had belonged to a ghost. She felt like a ghost, just waiting for the worst to happen. The night had gone by with her knocked out, only to be woken up by her mother’s serpent-like eyes watching over her.
Little words were exchanged, knowing that whatever she said would only hurt her case even more. So the girl opted for silence whenever someone would sit in, only to watch her mope around by the window like a forgotten lover.
Fred. He was all she could think about. She wondered whether he knew the truth, if Neville was okay, if he had been able to tell them what happened. One of her parent’s henchmen had come in while she was casting her patronus, cutting it off when he wrenched the wand from her hands. All the girl could hope was that it actually made it to them.
One of the head maids came into the room, her eyes sunken like she had aged several years in the space of a few months.
“Madam has requested you in the ballroom.” The woman hung a long black dress bag, sealed up, on the back of her door. She stayed firmly in her spot, all the while watching the floor, as if she couldn’t bring herself to look at the poor girl.
“What is it?” The girl rasped out, her throat raw from all the sobbing she had already done. Now it felt like she couldn’t cry again, regardless of what happened.
“Madam would like you to change into this, I must assist.”
The girl frowned, not one for confrontation, especially not with someone who so obviously didn’t deserve it. But it was frustrating how little the maid was telling her. So instead of lashing out, y/n walked over to the bag and pulled on its zipper.
Her breath held in her throat, lodged. Before her was a long, white dress. Hung lifeless before her. Something inside her felt like this was a joke, but then she remembered where she was and her heart crumbled.
“I-I don’t understand?” She turned to the woman beside her, her hands clutching shakily against the silk fabric that draped like curtains.
“This is all I can say mistress.” “Please.” She begged. “Help me… please don’t let this happen.” The girl turned hysterical, her knees failing as she crashed to the floor with a wail of desperation.
It shouldn’t be like this. It should be later, it should be when she wants it, with who she wants it with.
With Fred.
-
The group followed Fred and Ginny’s warnings, watching out for extra guards and taking them down as quietly as they could. One by one they joined each other inside the grounds, in a secluded spot away from the windows.
Fred was adamant to get inside but Ginny had stopped him, reminding the man that what they were walking into was unknown. For all they knew y/n’s parents could have a whole army waiting for them.
“What are you and your wand gonna do against a whole house of people eh?” She had hissed to him, which finally hit home that he couldn’t just rush in and save the girl that easily.
So they waited, and snuck in together, keeping Mr and Mrs Weasley in the rear to watch out for anyone who could follow them.
“I don’t like this.” George had whispered, catching up with his brother at the front of the group. “It’s too quiet.” Admittedly they were walking through what looked to be an old service entrance, the dust and cobwebs indicating that no one had used it in a good few years. But still, houses like these echoed, and yet there wasn’t a single sound coming from anywhere else above them.
-
The girl begged and begged, but she couldn’t escape her fate. The maid had tried to coax her into the wedding dress kindly, warning her that if she didn’t do as her parents said then there would be consequences.
In the end, one of the men who had been keeping watch outside her bedroom ended up coming inside. He had heard the desperate commotion and told the girl to keep quiet. When she, yet again, refused to change the man had stunned her.
When she came to the room was spinning like a carousel, the lights of the chandelier blurring into one on the ceiling. That was when the girl realised she was no longer in the moderate safety of her bedroom anymore.
The silk burnt her skin. It shouldn’t have, but it did and it flared across every inch of her body like a raging forest fire. She tried to move, but someone had her tied again, bound at the wrists and ankles. What a sight she must have been, curled up in a wedding dress and left on the floor of her family’s ballroom.
Her murmurs of confusion alerted two other men in the room, dressed the same as the one who had knocked her out and the one who had taken her from diagon alley.
“Come come sweetie, why don’t we get you on your feet.” His voice sickened her from across the room, he looked at her with a smug sense of pride. It was like he was a hunter and she was his prize catch of the day all dressed in white.
“Where’s Neville?” Her voice was still scratchy, it sounded pathetic against the deep acoustics of the room.
“The quivering mess of a man?” The beast holding her spat, his teeth bared at her cheeks. “I’d barely call him a man-” Another one of them scoffed.
“Now now, we’re graced enough to see a beautiful ceremony today boys, let’s be respectful.” The kidnapper smiled, demanding the attention of everyone who dared speak against him.
“I don’t understand,” She tried to force herself away from the two men’s grip, but they held tight, keeping her as still as they could.
“Well… that’s not for me to explain pretty lady.” He laughed, pacing up and down the room.
“Who will?” The double doors opened behind them, making everyone turn to see. Y/n stumbled slightly, her feet still bound together.
“Let her go, I will not have my daughter married off in shackles.” His voice boomed, louder than anyone else's as he commanded the henchmen to free her. Still they held onto her, making sure she would not run off.
“Father- please!” The girl begged, dropping to her knees, “You can’t do this to me!” “This marriage is happening young lady, whether you’re happy about it or not.” The shrill tone was easy to guess, without her even coming into sight for another few seconds.
“Mother, I’m begging- just let me go… I-I won’t bother either of you ever again!”
“Stand up.” She commanded, her presence daunting even to those watching over her like a prisoner. “You should have considered that before you ran off and tarnished our family name… it is too late for you to redeem yourself- this is our only option.” The woman explained curtly, before taking her place at the side of the girl’s father.
“Besides-” The kidnapper neared her as she wriggled beneath the two men’s arms, lifting her back to her feet. “I’ve heard your groom-to-be  is quite the catch.” He winked.
-
Harry and Ron took down two more guards while George and Fred tried to find their way through the complex labyrinth which was Crag hall, stunning any staff who got in their way.
“Try through there?” George suggested, but it took them to yet another dead end.
“We’re never gonna find her like this, and who knows how the others are getting on.” Fred complained, not wasting a single second before retracing their steps and trying a different direction.
Bill and Hermione came careering round a corner, the older man just managing to get out of the way of a stray hex when the girl pulled him into an empty room.
“What are you doing here?” He asked the two men, but George was already running after whoever had attacked them.
“It’s a dead end, half of this place is empty- George was right, something’s wrong.” Fred huffed, out of breath from bursting through multiple locked doors.
“Maybe they’re all in one place.” Hermione offered up, which was the first good idea anyone had suggested all day. “You know, if they need y/n for something- then everyone would be with her.”
The two men nodded, hearing George’s whistle which signalled that it was clear to come out. He knelt beside the stunned guard, trying to find anything on him that could help. A set of keys jingled against his belt.
“These might work for the rooms upstairs?” He suggested to the small group.
“Bill you go with him, I think me and Fred need to try something different.” Hermione stated, sending the other men off with a quick nod.
“Here,” She handed Fred the unconscious man’s wand. “Don’t want him coming round too quickly and hexing our heads off.” “Not really, if we can help it that is.” He shoved it inside his coat pocket, unbothered by whether it snapped in the process of another fight. “So what’s the plan?” The man asked.
Hermione watched the halls tentatively as she led him back to the first floor.
“If you needed somewhere to hide your daughter, then it wouldn’t be in sight, right?” The girl asked, as if it was a common situation to find yourself in.
“Well… no, so you think there’s a secret room?”
“I’m sure of it.”
The two of them stood under the doorway to the library and Fred wanted to groan, knowing that whenever a plan was involved Hermione would want to do her research before rushing into things.
-
The girl’s sobs were like a moaning ghost, echoing over the large ballroom which held only a small group of people. The man before her was older, she could tell, but that was about all she knew about him. His face was unrecognisable to the friends her parents would have over for big parties, which meant all of this was just a business deal for them.
A knife was placed against her back, the point slicing through the silk dress whenever she tried to move. So she didn’t dare. Her parents had silenced her, bored of hearing the begs for them to let her go.
“It is obvious that none of this needs to be dragged out.” Her father stated, smiling politely at the smartly dressed man who stood before her. “So we won’t dawdle.”
“Of course sir.”
Behind the charm, y/n screamed at the top of her lungs, hoping that the sheer volume of it could break through and alert someone. Not that anyone would come, they were out in the middle of nowhere with a household of people fulfilling her twisted parents’ wishes.
“Mr Nott-” Who the hell was this man? “Do you take my daughter, Miss y/l/n to be your lawful wedded wife?”
“I do.” He smirked, obviously quite pleased to have bagged himself a young, unwilling, bride. The girl was sobbing, her eyes blurred as her father turned to her.
“Do you Miss y/l/n, take this man to be your lawful wedded husband?”
She choked on her words, shaking her head as best she could with the grief running through her body. Whoever was holding the knife behind her stepped closer, sliding the blade slowly across her exposed back, just to remind her of what would happen if she disobeyed.
“You will agree.” Her mother’s voice sounded out, as she lifted her wand to remove the silencing charm with a deep breath. The girl nodded, racking her brain for any way that she could escape this hell.
Her throat untightened, the noise reaching them all as she sighed out in sudden relief. But it was short lived. Here laid her future, presented in the form of this cruel man who wanted a woman to listen to his every need and keep quiet. Never had she missed diagon alley more than in that moment, she begged to be back in the loft with the twins, in Fred’s arms, watching George guzzle down glass after glass of wine until he passed out. That was the life she chose. Not this.
Maybe the knife’s fate was sweeter than this. A sharp, short price to pay for running away. One that would be better than a lifetime of regret. The silver metal was cold against her skin, a constant reminder.
As Mr Nott’s eyes fixated on her, like he had just won her at a fair, the girl decided what was to be. The blade could finish this pain, once and for all.
“I will never marry this man.” The girl spat out, a sudden rush of happiness in herself that she had managed to finally speak out against her parents wishes. The confidence glowed all over her in that moment, the shine on her cheeks as she smiled in the confused face of her, no longer, husband to be.
There was a loud crash from the double doors.
-
“We don’t have time to read over these books Hermione, y/n could be in danger!” Fred reminded her, watching the girl scan over the surrounding shelves.
“I’m not reading Freddie, I’m looking for a way in.” “Huh?”
“All these books, there was something strange about them.” She explained, not stopping to look at the man who stood behind her.
“I thought I noticed something when we first checked in here, but we left too quickly for me to figure it out.”
“What? Hermione what’s in here?”
“These books, every single one of them are their most recent additions. In fact, they’re all brand new, not a single one looks as though it’s been picked up.”
“So, people don’t read books- you do know that isn’t a crime right?” Fred scoffed, but the girl just ignored him.
“Why would anyone fill up a library with new books?” “Because it’s a new library?”
“An old house like this has rooms that date back centuries, none of them look renovated, yet this one has obviously been done up on purpose.”
“Why in here then?” “Because in here, they are hiding something.” “Like a secret room!” “And you’ve got it, finally.”
Hermione found a crank between two of the bookcases, hidden by a large armchair.
“Here help me out.” Between them they managed to use the crank to push the bookshelves away, two double doors hidden perfectly behind it.
“Find anythin- woah!” Ginny said from the library’s doorway, having spotted them on her way past.
“Get the others, quick!” Fred ordered, sending the redheaded girl into a frenzy through the rest of the house.
He reached out for the handles, grunting when they didn’t budge under his weight.
“It’s been locked from the inside.” He huffed.
“Step back, let me try.” The girl beside him offered.
When the rest of the group arrived, both of them were throwing hexes at the unmoving doors. Both exhausted by the amount of shouting and fighting they’d already been through.
“I think we all need to do it, it shifted a little when I started helping.” Fred explained, stepping aside to let his brothers get a better stance. They all held their wands up high, pointed towards the locks.
With one almighty scene of hexes, the two doors flew off their hinges with a deafening crash. The clouds of smoke kept them in the dark for a few seconds, until Fred couldn’t hold himself back much longer and burst through it to get a better look at what was hidden inside.
“Freddie!” The girl screamed. She was on her knees, the white dress pooled around her as she hit the ground. Above her a man was holding her back, doing all he could to stop her from getting away to the safety of Fred.
The man was someone the twins knew, someone that the whole group was unfortunately familiar with. Someone whom Freddie wished he had killed during the war, when he had that chance.
Although Theodore Nott wrestled with her, he still managed to keep a smug look about him when he saw the Weasley’s and their friends stood amongst the ballroom’s debris.
“Let her go!” Fred boomed, ignoring the threatening stances he was faced with.
“I’m afraid there’s already been arrangements made, Weasley, seems you’ll have to find yourself another silly girlfriend.” He scoffed, yanking the whimpering girl to her feet.
Y/n thrashed with more furiosity than anyone had seen her possess in their time knowing her, spitting harsh words to the man holding her captive. Fred was joined by the rest of his group, who fought the other guards viciously, as well as the girl’s parents who weren’t ones to take the sidelines in any fight.
“I’d be more careful if I were you.” Theo hissed in her ear, low enough that no one could hear over the commotion. He held her there for a moment, so she could watch the guards hurl themselves upon Harry and Ginny. She screamed out for them to stop, but it was useless.
The twins made a run for her, everyone else too busy fighting to get the chance, but Theo was quicker. He whipped out his wand before they even had a chance to react, tossing two sharp hexes their way and knocking them to the ground.
Fred tried to get up but it was useless, only his head could move ever so slightly. He turned to her, seeing the fear on her face at the sight of his nearly lifeless body. The sound of her screams were the worst he’d heard, worse than the night of the break-in. Because she wasn’t bothered about her life this time. Now she was screaming out for Freddie, begging him to be okay.
His face moved, his eyes flickered at the last glimpse of her and the girl gasped with relief. There was a small smile on her face, before it was dragged away from the man. A last glimmer of hope, he saw it as, she was his last hope at happiness.
-
When the twins came around they were relieved to see that the guards, along with y/n’s parents, were knocked out and tied up against the far wall.
“Where is she!” Ginny was yelling at them, uncaring of the fact that they were just slipping back into consciousness. Molly was trying to stop her, but it was a futile attempt.
“Theo has her.” George groaned, getting to his feet with the help of Bill and Arthur. Hermione held out a hand for Fred, seeing the way his eyes glassed over at the thought of her.
“She has to be here somewhere.” He whispered, mostly to himself, but the girl beside him heard it still.
“Why do you say that?” She asked.
“If they were going to apparate, they would have done it the second we got here.” He explained, barely waiting a second before heading out of the ballroom in the direction that Nott took the girl away.
“You think he needs her here?” “I think the wards that have been set up are keeping her here, if Nott thinks her parents are still alive then he won’t know that they’ve been broken, right?” “Very clever.” She commended him. “But I think there could be something-” “I know. I saw the dress, I’m not that oblivious- but still, he needs her here to have her parent’s blessing if they’re to marry. He hasn’t got that, so he’ll be hiding.”
The man was pacing the halls quicker than he’d walked in his entire life, scanning each room as he passed it in case they were inside.
“Hermione!” Ron called from back down the hallway.
“What?” She barked, noticing how Fred didn’t even stop his search.
“We need to obliviate them, could buy us some time.” “Then do it!” “You’re the best at it, come on.” Ron raced back into the ballroom, hearing his fiance groan behind him.
“Hey, Fred?” “I’ll be fine, just go!” He called back, leaving her little choice as she went to obliviate the minds of their captives.
-
The girl had sat in silence ever since Mr Nott had thrown her into one of the guest bedroom’s, keeping his wand pointed at the door. He didn’t want to lock it. He found great joy in telling y/n how he would hex the first person to come through it, laughing over the thought of their lifeless face.
It was blatant to see how the man played around with lives like they were his toys. But all she could think about was how Freddie was laying on the ballroom floor, his eyes full of helpless tears as she was dragged away.
As much as she wanted him to be okay, she begged that he wouldn’t be the one to open that door and face whatever jinx her captor was going to throw.
“Why?” Her voice was dull, void of any hope or joy.
“Speak up, you’re mumbling.” He spat, barely glancing her way as she lay crumpled against the far side of the room, as far from him as she could get within those four walls.
“Why!” Now she was just angry.
She wanted to see her parents suffer, she wanted to see those awful creeps in pain… but most of all she wanted to see Mr Nott writhing in a pool of his own blood. Fred deserved to see that, she deserved to do it.
“Why what?” The man chuckled, amused by the way she scowled at the back of his head.
“Why bother fighting this hard? What have they promised you?”
“A pretty bride of course.” He laughed, his wand outstretched at the sound of some nearby noise down the hallway. His tone was gut wrenching, making the girl want to vomit on his newly polished dress shoes.
“Cut the shit.” She spat, her bones weak from the hours of being tied up and left to starve.
“Your mummy and daddy never told me they had a feisty one,” He turned, losing interest in the door, and approached her. She had nowhere to go, the balcony door was locked and all the furniture was too heavy to try and break the glass.
“Stop it…” She whispered, sick of fighting him off every few minutes, but his hands still reached up to her face. The man grabbed her jaw, rendering her gaze stuck on his.
“You’ve been promised to me… and that’s all I wanted- now be good and do what I say.” He laughed at the way she gulped beneath his harsh grip, digging deeper with each passing second. The pain was a happy sight to the sick man.
“All you want is to own me.” She almost laughed at this small revelation, a weak and airy one at that.
“Now she’s got it.” Theodore hissed, his hand unmoving from her now marked skin.
There was another noise, reminding the man that he was being followed. So he stood again, leaving her slumped in slight relief to watch the door as the footsteps grew slowly closer. They were hesitant, yet heavy. It was him, it had to be.
“Have you ever been in love?” The girl asked, desperately trying to distract him once again. It could buy some time for Freddie, if Mr Nott wasn’t waiting to throw his hex immediately.
The man’s back stiffened a little.
“Hasn’t everyone been in love once, little girl.” He chuckled, dismissing her question.
“But you haven’t?” She pushed.
There was no answer, he just remained with his wand pointed at the door. Except it shook slightly as he reminisced, unbeknownst to the girl.
“Was she pretty?” Y/n knew she was pushing her luck, but desperate times call for desperate measures.
“She... “ He breathed heavily, most likely contemplating why he was even entertaining her curiosity. “Well, it’s me- of course she had to be pretty. I would never settle for less.” His arrogance returned from the sidelines with one deep breath.
“What happened?” “It’s none of your business, now keep quiet.” He could hear whoever was in the hallway getting closer, and the girl’s voice was becoming more and more off putting.
“Mr Nott-” It was the first time she had addressed him all day. “I’m sorry for however you fell out of love, I can’t imagine it was pleasant in the slightest.” He made no reaction, so she kept going.
“Then again, I haven’t been in love before… not before Freddie.” She could see the way his chest heaved more than before as his eyes bored into the wooden doorframe. “So, I wouldn’t know what it is like to lose that love… but I suppose that is a threat as of today.”
Theodore tried to block her out, really he tried, knowing that any second that door before him would fly open and one of the Weasley clan would charge inside to claim his bride as their own.
But all he could think about was her. The one woman he had truly loved, after years of damning the feeling to death, was no longer his to be with. As his hand shook furiously before him, flashes of her perfect smile and devious ways washed through his mind.
She was married to another, by arrangement, his own offer cast aside when the whole ordeal became a business plan. Her father had never seen him suitable from the start, yet he had kept up the naive hope that the woman would see him as perfect enough to disobey her father’s requests.
He wasn’t, however, suitable for anyone it seemed.
“Who was she Mr Nott?” “Shut up!” The man snapped, still unable to concentrate as he had been doing so.
“It will help to talk,” “I do not need to talk to you bitch, now be quiet.”
The footsteps were gone. Or maybe he couldn’t hear them over the sound of his thudding heart. But it panicked him, made him scramble over to the girl in white who cowered at his advance.
He picked her up from the floor and whispered a spell on the french doors behind them, hearing the locks open. The girl whimpered once again in his arms, shivering as the wind rushed inside the room behind them, the threat of the balcony nearing.
“Please,” Y/n whispered, maybe to him, maybe to herself. But it made the man holding her jump slightly, looking down to see her staring at the door with hopeful intent.
For a split second she held such a look of determination that he was reminded of another, suddenly seeing the girl as someone he had loved in the past. It enthralled him how, even faced against a doomed future, she held onto the idea that Fred would save her. He knew the bastard Weasley would do all he could, too. Theodore knew she was loved, something he had never been.
“Pansy…” Mr Nott said airily, watching the girl and recognising her.
“What?”
“Pansy... Zabini.”
The door flew open, shocking them both. Fred was exhausted, his face pale and his body hunched over in pain as he all but fell into the room. There was no time for the girl’s captor to react when he heard the words expelliarmus fall from her lover’s lips.
Nott’s wand flew across the room, despite his attempts to catch it back.
“That was a very bad idea Weasley.” He laughed, remembering why he deserved this. Why he deserved the girl as his own, she was his to show off. To remind everyone that Theodore Nott wasn’t a lovesick fool for anyone.
The man produced a blade, bigger than the one previously pressed into the girl’s back. Now it prodded her side, making her torso tense up once again, yet her eyes softened at the sight of Freddie. Even if he did look like hell.
“Don’t hurt her, you bastard!” Fred spat, holding his hands in the air to show he meant no harm. Anything to protect her, he told himself, as long as nothing happens to y/n.
“Wand down.” Theo spat, chuckling at how easily he’d gained control of the situation.
“Fine, just let her go.”
“No can do, she’s been promised- my prize.” He cooed, feeling the way the girl beside him gulped when he got closer.
All the while, as the Slytherin bragged about his bride to be, Freddie’s eyes remained on the girl. They begged him to save her, to help her, to take her far away and stay with her forever. But she didn’t say a word, just watched him.
“The thing is, Weasley, that your little play thing here- she is just like all the other girls out there… so very disposable.” The knife in Nott’s hands ran up her body, grazing the dress with a light scratching sound. It grated in her mind as she held her breath.
“Please Theo, don’t.” Freddie begged, watching how the blade rested upon her neck. Every shaky breath she took knocked it about, her eyes widening every time.
“All this time she’s been crying and begging and whimpering, don’t you start too.” He sneered, holding the girl’s left arm tighter. “Weak little thing, don’t you agree?”
Fred tried to shake his head, the words not coming out even as he tried.
“Shame. I think she’s purely useless- worthless little y/n?” Theo turned to the girl, her scornful gaze somewhat a shock to him. Still, it gave him a chuckle. “Even her parents didn’t care about her… I see why.”
“Mr Nott?” She asked, her voice like an angel’s to Freddie.
“Yes darling.” Theodore teased, turning back to the redhead with a smug look.
Only to face the girl with shameful horror when she whispered “legilimens”.
He had no chance to fight it, no way to block her from seeing it all. The endless days spent with Pansy at Hogwarts, so in love with one another that it disgusted their friends to no end. She saw how they fought through the war together, side by side, only to be ushered away by their parents when it was clear they were to lose. The girl watched over his memories of the trials, his pleads of being under the imperius curse, his testimony to Pansy’s innocence. Only for the girl to announce her engagement to Blaise Zabini once they were pardoned and allowed to live freely. The girl felt the way his heart broke, over and over, time again. She could feel how little he valued himself, she could see the mask he wore.
“You bitch!”
The knife plunged deep into her side, a ricochet of shouts from Freddie as she stumbled away from Theodore. He ripped it out, the gash in the dress draping open to show off the bloody slit that was now in her skin.
It was a blur, as Fred grabbed his wand and advanced towards the man who held a look of regret over his face. But it wasn’t enough to save him.
“Stupefy”
He slumped onto the balcony railing, his eyes trained on her as she found her footing against the french doors. They were welling up now, covered in hazed tears. With all the pent up adrenaline left inside her she lunged for the man, grabbing his collar and holding his upper body over the edge, threatening to let him fall onto the cobblestones below.
“You remember. I know it all.” She whispered. “Find someone who loves you.” It was a stern plea. Y/n knew that without it, Theodore Nott would only descend into madness.
Fred came to her side when she fell, matching the way the stunned man’s body fell against the railings. The girl’s eyes closed every few seconds, her head misting over as the twin tried desperately to keep her awake.
“Please… y/n…. Wake up…. I need you awake…. I need you.” He begged, fading into nothing as she fell slowly forward into his arms.
Her lips parted as she tried to speak, slowly, but with her last drags of determination.
“Theodore? If you try this again…. With me… or anyone else…” Her breath got heavy as she struggled to push away the pain much longer, the searing sting piercing her side as if she’d been struck a second time. “Then… I’ll push you over.”
With that final warning her eyes closed for good and her body collapsed lifelessly against Fred who couldn’t bring himself to utter a single word as he scrambled around the room for his wand. It took another look at Theo, frozen in his fear to realise what the girl had seen inside his head must have meant something to her. Or else he would have been in a pool of his own blood, on the courtyard below.
“Y/n…” He finally managed. “I’m sorry, this is going to hurt.” Freddie closed his eyes, holding onto her for dear life and ignored the way he wanted to crumble into a string of sobs just at the sight of her. Then they disappeared, leaving Theodore to be found on the balcony…. Alone.

Kat got angry Y/n opened up to him and not her, and Y/n goes to the one place of comfort. (An Au where Fred lived, it takes place in current time so he’s about 42, Cursed child never happens.)
Warnings: cussing?, falling out with friend/ arguement, friend being rude/degrading
Tumblr media
It just after school and Y/n noticed something was up with Kat. They walked into their shared room, luckily they were the only ones there.
They dropped their books on their beds and plopped down.
“Today was very long.” Y/n said.
Kat hummed in response. Y/n sat up and huffed.
“What’s going on.” Y/n asked.
“Nothing.” Kat responded.
“That’s a lie.” Y/n retorted.
Kat sat up and looked conflicted.
“Where have you been going?” Kat asked.
“What do you mean?” Y/n asked.
“I see you sneaking out at night, where do you go?” Kat asked.
Y/n sighed.
“Weasley’s Wizard Wheezes.” Y/n replied.
“Both before and after curfew basically all days of the week?” Kat asked. Y/n nodded.
“Doing what? You haven’t brought anything back.” Kat said.
“I never said I was buying anything.” Y/n retorted.
“So you just going their to hang out?” Kat asked, and Y/n nodded.
“With who!?” Kat asked angrily.
“Fred Weasley.” Y/n muttered as she stood up.
“You’ve been sneaking out at late hours to see Fred Weasley! Why? Do realize how that sounds!?” Kat yelled.
“It’s not like that!” Y/n yelled back.
“Than what’s it like!?” Kat asked.
“It’s just... not like that. Hes like... a... father.” Y/n said. God she never thought she would say anything like that.
“He’s understanding, he’s listens, he’s comforting, he cares, and he made it easy to open up-.” “What!?” Kat yelled cutting her off.
“What?” Y/n asked confused.
“Open up!?” Kat asked angrily.
“Kat-.” “No! I’ve been you best friend for two years, and you haven’t told me a single thing. And you know some guy for almost two months and you tell him!?” She said.
“Kat, I know-.” “No you don’t!” She yelled.
“God I put up with you for two years! You and your bullshit! I let you constantly bother me, and you open up to someone else after two months. You know what!? Good! I’m glad you bothered someone else!” Kat yelled.
Y/n’s mind raced a million miles per hour. ‘Bothered? I really am a problem.’ She thought.
“Well, if I’m such a problem... I’ll leave.” Y/n said holding back tears as she grabbed her phone and wand and left.
She cried as she left the school, attempting to avoid any people, so they wouldn’t see her crying. She ran to the train and immediately got on.
—————
Y/n was walking through diagon alley, about to get to Fred’s store, and she hasn’t calmed down.
She was still crying but she managed to hold back her sobs. She finally got the Weasley’s Wizard Wheezes.
She’s reach out and grabbed the door but stopped. The memory of what Kat said came crawling back. ‘I’m tired of your bullshit’ ‘I’m glad you bother someone else’ rang through her head.
Y/n let go of the door and walked away while wiping a tear. She managed to find an empty alley way, not far from the shop.
Luckily there was a bench. She sat on it and brought her knees up, and hugged them. She made sure to cover everything so she wouldn’t have a repeat of the creepy guy.
She put her head down and she could no longer hold back. Y/n sobbed as tears rapidly escaped her eyes.
“Hey, it’s alright.” She heard a worried voice say. She looked up and saw Fred. He walked over and kneeled in front of her.
“H-how did you k-know I was here?” Y/n chcoked out.
“I saw you about to come to the shop, but I noticed you were crying a bit, and ran off.” Fred informed.
“What happened?” He asked.
Y/n took a deep breath before pulling herself together enough to talk.
“Kat and I finished school. And I noticed recently she’s been distant so I asked her.” Y/n started.
“She asked me where I was going all the time and I told her to your store. We argued and I let it slip that I opened up to you.” Y/n before taking a breath.
“And then she got mad because I’ve known her for two years, and I haven’t opened up to her. And she said she was happy that I did Beacuse she was tired of my bullshit, and that I’m a bother.” Y/n finished.
There was a moment of silence.
“But when I got to the shop I realized it was true. And I-I didn’t want to interrupt you while you were working.” Y/n added. Fred placed his hands on either side of her face.
“Y/n, you can come to me whenever you need me. I will always be there. Wether it’s in the middle of the day or midnight. Wether it’s winter, summer, spring, or Autumn. You come to me when you need to.” Fred said as he wiped her tears away with his thumbs.
“And you are not a bother. You could never be. And you should never feel guilty for opening up. Opening up should make you feel better, and if she’s doing otherwise, she’s not a real friend.” Fred continued.
Y/n dropped her legs to a cris cros position and wrapped her arms around Fred. She buried her head onto his shoulder and let herself cry.
Fred hugged her back, and rubbed her back comfortingly as she let it all out. He could tell she needed it.
Eventually Y/n pulled herself together and leaned back. She whipped her tears and regained her regular breathing.
“There goes everything.” She said quietly.
“What do you mean?” Fred asked hearing her.
“I was supposed to go to her house for Christmas in a few weeks. We’re not going to make up by than, if at all.” Y/n informed.
Fred’s heart ached because that ment one of two options. She either had to go back to the orphanage, or she had to stay at Hogwarts.
That’s when a third option popped into his head, and he waisted no time offering it.
“Come to Christmas with me.” Fred said.
“What?” Y/n asked.
“Come to Christmas with me and my family.” Fred repeated.
“I can’t let you go back to an orphanage.” Fred added.
“I can just stay at Hogwarts.” Y/n suggested.
“But than your missing out on a true family Christmas.” He replied.
“Well it’s not like I’ll know what I’m missing.” She retorted with a bitter chuckle.
“But you could.” Fred said.
“Just think about it?” He asked. Y/n nodded.
“Now, let’s get you cleaned up and back to Hogwarts.” Fred said.
Y/n shook her head.
“Why not?” Fred asked.
“I can’t. I can’t sleep in the same room with her. At least not for the night.” She said.
“Than where do you plan to go?” Fred asked.
“I don’t know. There’s a couple benches around diagon alley I could sleep on. It wouldn’t be the first time I crashed outside like this.” Y/n said.
“No.” Fred replied.
“What do you mean no?” Y/n asked.
“I can’t let you sleep outside.” Fred explained.
“I’ll be fine.” Y/n tried to reassure.
“No. I’m not going to let you sleep outside in the cold, where anything could happen to you.” Fred refused.
“Well I’m not going back.” Y/n said.
“You can stay at my place for the night.” Fred said.
“Are you sure, I don’t want to both-.” “What did I say. You could never bother me.” Fred said cutting her off.
She nodded.
“Come on, we’ll finish my shift, and then we can have a nice dinner and you can get some rest.” Fred added.
Y/n nodded once again. Fred stood up and so did Y/n. The pair walked back to Weasley’s Wizard Wheezes.
He took her to the bathroom and handed her paper towels and than he brought her to his office.
Fred felt bad having to leave her in his office but he had to work, and she seemed to understand that.
—————
It was now 10:57pm, and Fred and George were probably closing up so Y/n decided to make her way out.
Y/n left the office and made her way down stairs.
“When did you get here?” She heard a familiar voice ask. She turned to see George.
George and Y/n had grown close too, but not in the same way, or as much as she did with Fred.
“She got here hours ago, she’s been in my office.” Fred replied.
“Why’d you stop by? Another prank?” He asked.
Fred looked over at Y/n. The face he gave was as he was asking permission. Y/n nodded.
“Her best friend and her had an argument and a falling out today. She came here crying but remembers something her friend had said, and left. I chased her and long story short, she’s refusing to go to hogwarts, and she spending the night at mine.” Fred explained briefly.
George was taken aback at the information, but nodded.
“Why don’t you get home than, I can handle closing.” George offered.
“Are you sure?” Fred asked. George responded in response.
“Alright, come along than.” Fred said. Y/n walked over and him, and they were on his way.
—————
Fed and Y/n got to his place and walked in. Fred closer and locked the door after them. The pair slipped their shoes of and walked in.
“Make you self at home, I’ll be right back.” Fred said as he walked off to a room.
Y/n looked around as she took in everything. She sat down and it was not too long before Fred walked out with clothes in his hand.
He walked back over and stretched his arms out with the clothes in his hands.
“Here you go darling.” Fred said as he held out his clothes.
Y/n took the clothes from Fred. He pointed her in the direction of the bathroom, and she made her way over.
Y/n walked in and removed her uniform, and put on the clothes. It was just a regular sweatpants and hoodie. She grabbed her clothes.
However, both were obviously super big on her, and they smelled like Fred. She walked out and back into the main room.
She noticed the Fred had moved from the living/entrance area, into the kitchen. Luckily the kitchen was open so she should see him and what he was doing.
She walked over and stopped at the entry way to the kitchen, and leaned against a pillar.
“Thanks for the clothes.” Y/n thanked.
“No problem.” He said as he gathered some Ingredients.
He turned around and saw her holding her clothes.
“Do you know how to cook?” He asked.
Y/n looked down slightly embarrassed.
“I only really now how to make grilled cheese.” She admitted.
Fred chuckled and nodded and had magic take over cooking. He turned around and walked over to Y/n.
“I’ll throw those in the wash.” He said as he reached his hand out.
“You did sit on a dirty alley bench, and cry in them.” He added.
“Good idea.” She said handing it to him.
He walked off to what she presumed the laundry room, and he soon came back. He resumed making his dinner but without magic.
“Come here.” He said. Y/n walked up to him.
“Tonight your going to learn how to make some Pizza.” Fred said.
For the next 25 minutes Fred tought Y/n how to make pizza dough. Once it was made they rolled it out, and put on the sauce and topping.
“Alright, put that in the oven.” Fred said as he cleaned up.
Y/n picked up the pizza and opened the oven. A little anxiety picked up. She never really used an oven before, she only ever watched how one worked.
“Should I wear gloves?” Y/n asked.
Fred turned and chuckled when he saw her.
“No you don’t need to.” He said. He then chuckled when he saw her.
“I’ll do it darling.” He said.
“No, I can do it.” Y/n said.
Y/n, really carefully bent over and than quickly put the over in the pizza in, and sprung back up. Than closed the door.
“There were good.” Y/n said.
Fred chuckled as he set the timer for 15 minutes. They washed their hand and dried them off.
“So what do you usually do when you wait?” Y/n asked.
“I’ll usually watch some tv.” Fred answered.
“You have a tv?” She asked.
“Yup, I went out to the muggle world and got one.” He replied.
“Have you ever used one before?” He asked.
Y/n shook her head.
“I live in an orphanage for witches and the owner hates muggles so theirs a ban on everything muggle related. But I was able to buy and sneak my phone around.” Y/n explained.
“Well, today you get to use one.” Fred replied.
He led her to the living room, and he turned on his tv. The pair picked a movie to watch.
Sooner or later the timer went off and Fred went to cool off and cut the pizza. He came back with two plates, and he handed one to her.
They watched the movie and ate and for the first time in Y/n’s life... she felt like she had a family.
Sure Kat used be there but she never felt close enough to call her family. She also never felt close or comfortable enough to open up.
But with Fred it was different. He made her feel safe, comfortable, loved. He... felt like a dad.
Once the movie was over she handed her plate to Fred.
“Thank you.” Y/n said.
“No problem-.” “No not just for the food, and letting me stay the night. Thank you... for everything.” Y/n said cutting him off.
Fred scooted over and wrapped his arm sounded her shoulders, and rubbed her arm comfortingly.
“You don’t need to thank me, darling.” He said before he kissed the top of her head, and stood up.
He walked into the kitchen, and Y/n took a sip of her drink. Soon he came back out, and asked her if she needed anything other than pillows and a blanket.
Once she said she was fine he ran off, and got her a blanket and pillow, and they said Goodnight.
Fred turned off the lights and went into his room. Y/n laid her head on the cold pillow, and pulled the warm blanket over her body.
The events of today ran through her head, and eventually she managed to drift off to sleep.

Three Days ~82
Tumblr media
~*~Emma~*~
I awoke to see Sebastian laying on his side, leaning onto his elbow, with his head propped up on his hand. Diffuse sunlight filled the room and clearly showed me his face. He didn’t look sleepy. His face was relaxed with the slightest smile. Who knows how long he'd been watching me sleep. That thought made me smile.
He jerked his head up a little, "Tell me what you're thinking."
"I like seeing you when I wake up and knowing you'll be the last person I see before I fall asleep. And I'm excited about everything in between."
"The Louvre, dinner on the Seine, cabaret. Fun day."
I shook my head with a frown, "No, not what we're doing. I'm excited to spend the day with you." Sebastian closed his eyes, smiled a little wider, and took a few breaths. I knew what he was doing. He was taking in my words, feeling them, believing them. Before he opened his eyes, I moved closer to kiss him. "Je t'aime."
"I know that one." His fingers ran through my hair, smoothing the morning disarray. "In how many languages can you tell me you love me?"
I gasped and held my mouth open, "Just three, but now I have a goal."
"Crazy girlfriend."
I rolled on top of him, "Just about you." I did exactly what you’re supposed to do when you're naked in bed laying on top of a naked man.
I tickled him.
Our tickle fight lasted until we were laughing so hard it was hard to breathe. That and when Sebastian pinned my hands to the bed. "Je veux te faire l 'amour." He kissed me and pressed his erection closer between my legs. "I have a good memory too."
I don't know how it gets better than this. Waking up in Paris, with a gorgeous man watching me sleep, making love, then sitting on the terrace in big fluffy robes having coffee and croissants.
The guide at The Louvre was knowledgeable but a little stuffy. We spent much of the tour hanging back with another couple laughing inappropriately. The museum was incredible and we stayed around after the tour to revisit areas and check out some places not included. Sebastian liked items where I was mesmerized by the vibrant colors of the paintings. Lunch today would become our go-to. Pick up something near to and find a spot to sit in the park. Food and people watching was always a good time.
We headed back to the hotel to fool around before dressing for dinner. On the boat, we were seated by the window. We headed to the upper deck with a glass of wine for sunset. Last night's sunset view was unforgettable for many reasons. Tonight's was more beautiful with the lights of the city and bridges. It was romantic in a more refined way. Last night was casual clothes sneaking kisses in the dark. Tonight was dressed up, high heels, and elegant stemware. Kisses weren't as sneaky in the wide open space. The food was delicious. We started with duck foie gras and Scottish salmon. My main was scallops with sweet potato risotto and seaweed cream. Sebastian promised to save me from the seaweed if it triggered me. He went for a filet of beef, pea pudding, and veal gravy. The aroma from the fresh bread with the cheese course was mouth watering. Sebastian enjoyed my excitement and took more pictures of me eating cheese than anything else except drinking wine. For dessert, we decided one decadent and one fresh. A white chocolate raspberry lychee sphere and lemon basil tart. I nearly had to stab Sebastian with a fork for hogging all the sphere. The return trip was dark. Only the lights of the city and running lights illuminated to boat.
The night included a visit to a cabaret. That the Moulin Rouge was more touristy led us to the Crazy Horse. Still famous, but not the most sought after. We'd been told the Moulin Rouge was over the top and Crazy Horse more subtle. That may be true, but one important detail was left out. The dancers at the Crazy Horse were often naked. Sexy dance numbers, visual effects, and vibrant light shows. At times the lights were the only clothes. Darkness was used strategically as was glow in the dark body paint. What I noticed was all the women were in Louboutin, which lead me to believe the lingerie was expensive as well. There was a part with a very good looking man stripping. It was more funny than sexy. The combination of erotic dance and risqué humor kept both of us entertained
We talked about our favorite parts on the ride back to the hotel. Sebastian opened the door, letting me walk by into the hotel, "Is it wrong that I asked where the lingerie was from?"
"I wondered, but didn't think to ask. I loved the black bodysuit with all the straps."
"So did I."
Imagine my shocked face. You'd have to imagine because I wasn’t making that face. I waited until we were in the room to ask, "Did you find out where this shop is?"
He pulled his phone out and went to maps. A slow smile formed, "About two blocks. Across from Dior."
I folded my legs under me and sat on the couch. "Fun."
He sat next to me. He was fiddling with the bottom hem of his shirt. He was nervous. "Are you running up a crazy credit card bill to amuse me?"
What a sweety. My recent shopping habits didn’t match my teacher salary. I guess we were going to have this conversation. "My grandfather has it set up where his stock dividends are split between the grandchildren. It's paid out quarterly and there's no way to know how much, so I've never factored it into my budget. It goes into a savings account. I have a rule that it's only for fun. I took Angie and Eli with me to Hawaii. After a horrible start to the year, Malory and I went to Key West." I grimaced, "I don't remember much of that trip. And if I want to go shopping I can. I do appreciate your concern." I leaned over and kissed him. "There is a trust fund, but I can't touch that until I'm thirty. That's partly why it was important to go off on my own. I grew up with money, so when Jimmy said I couldn't take care of myself I needed to prove it to myself, even though I know it wasn’t completely on my own."
Sebastian interrupted, "Don't diminish what you’ve done. You started over in a new place where you knew no one or even where to grocery shop. You've got a Master's and accepted into a Doctoral program. Anyone who thinks you can't take care of yourself is wrong."
This fierce defense was very attractive. Money can be embarrassing. I realize I'm privileged, and I try not to behave like a trust fund baby. I would never go shopping as I had with anyone but Angie. I know it was a splurge.
“I just wanted to check.” I wanted to ask what if I had been, but he kept going, and I didn’t feel the need to stop him. “Back to the fun stuff. Is it bad form to buy you a gift that's really for me?"
"For my birthday or Christmas, yes. Otherwise, no. I'm not sure that sexy lingerie that gets you hard isn't as much a benefit to me as it is you."
"You realize you in sweatpants and a t-shirt gets me hard. You in a bathrobe. You in a potato sack."
"I wonder who that says more about?" We laughed and I laid across him, counting on him to support me. "It does make us both lucky."
"Oh, don't I know it."
We spent the next day touring Versailles Palace. We jumped off the tour to explore as soon as we hit the outskirts of the city. When we were out of interesting places we jumped on the metro until we saw something new to explore. Dinner was at this Ping Pong cafe. The food was delicious and fortified us for the play to come. I am just as competitive playing ping pong with my boyfriend as I am on a volleyball court. There was a lot of trash talking. What made it more fun was how truly awful we both were. Neither was sure of the rules so we argued over and made them up as we went. In the end, I lost due to a combination of unsuccessful attempts at cheating and Sebastian being slightly less awful than me. Our overly dramatic antics did amuse nearby patrons and when Sebastian was recognized he was gracious in conversation and signing autographs. We made it to the Pont Alexandre III bridge just as the sun set. It was ornate and a beautiful end to the day.
Next up was a day of museums and checking out wherever in between. We met up with a guide in the afternoon for a walking tour of Art Nouveauarchitecture. On our way back to the hotel we passed by the lingerie shop. A quick discussion later we decided not to go in. It would ruin some of the fun if the other knew what we bought. I also decided I needed to find some sexy underwear for him. I checked; he'd wear them. Dinner was my responsibility tonight. I found a rooftop restaurant with a great wine list and an even better view.
Tuesday, the day before the fashion shows, was the day I was looking most forward to. It was an early start and long trip to Mont Saint Michel. Claire had hired us a car and we napped most of the trip. The town is a tidal island and when the tide comes in it covers the causeway, only cutting off access for about an hour, but still. We parked at the tourism office and took off our shoes for the half mile walk over the mudflats. It didn’t look like a dangerous trek, but apparently, quicksand was real here.
We weren't far into our walk when Sebastian asked, "Is this Hogwarts?"
Our guide laughed, "No, but yes. The movie was not filmed here but as you will see much of the architecture is similar and the street does resemble Diagon Alley."
Sebastian looked at me, "Did you know?"
I shook my head, "I love gothic architecture and castles. Versailles was incredible, but this is a hundred times better. Stonework, stained glass, the high pointed arches." I grabbed onto his arm, bouncing on my toes. "I'm so excited. This is surreal." I held my hand out toward the Abbey. "Look at this, I mean, look at this."
He was smiling at me, "Should take you home to Romania. Lots of castles."
"Don't tease me." I let go of him and walk to stand in a small puddle. The water was cool and the sand squished between my toes. I felt like I was in the bubble from my favorite guided meditation. I put my arms out with my shoes dangling off my fingers and twirled. I stopped facing Sebastian. He had his phone out, pointed at me. "What are you taking pictures of?"
"You." He laughed, "With a castle island thingy in the background."
I heard the guide say, "Your mademoiselle is much more beautiful than the background."
Sebastian nodded, "That she is."
I walked back to them and reached for his hand. He handed his phone to our guide to take a couple of pictures before we headed on.
I was in absolute heaven. Even more so when I saw Sebastian as in awe as I was with the narrow cobblestone streets and stairways that appeared out of nowhere. Our guide had stories and let us lead, only giving direction if we were missing something. He took the lead when we approached the Abbey and guided us through spaces as tiny as closets and large as cathedrals. The arches along the walkway did look like a scene off the bridge in Hogwarts.
Our guide left us at the end of the Abbey tour and after lunch, we walked the ramparts and worked our way around looking at everything and nothing. Talking and laughing.
It wasn’t long into the ride back that I realized my thighs were aching. "What is it with Paris and stairs?"
"There's a fuck ton of them." Sebastian smirked and leaned in to kiss the side of my neck. "I will be happy to massage your thighs when we get back."
"Stretch them out?"
"Definitely."
We both retreated into our phones for a while. Neither had paid attention to them since we got here. The return trip was good for nudging each other to show a picture we took. I texted my chosen family and sent pictures. Sebastian was doing the same thing. He showed me responses on his group chat.
Charles ~ You took her to Paris? Chace ~ You can't take a woman to Paris for a first vacation Will ~ Go big or go home Toby ~ That's it. I need to meet her. Charles ~ Find a date and take the last bedroom in the villa. Toby ~ Chace, wanna go to an island with me? Chace ~ Do I have to put out? Toby ~ What do you think? Will ~ Who has the lube? Chace ~ I bet there's some in Paris.
I'd lowered my phone while I read his. Sebastian pointed to my screen, "What is that?"
"It's that app we made the list on the train."
"You need to send me the list."
"I can do better than that. Can I have your phone?" He handed it over and I went into the app store, installed, and signed into the app under my user name. "Now you can see, edit, add." I kept typing while he looked around. There was more than a sexual to do list. I was currently adding to a notebook called "Moments".
"Can I add to this?" Sebastian was in the same notebook.
"Sure." I bit my lip, "I had a thought. You can say it's stupid or you don't want to."
He put his hand on my leg, "What?"
"I was thinking since we're going to be apart for a while, we could write to each other. Not like texts talking about our day. I'd write things I want you to remember or know. When I'm missing you, I could write a couple of sentences to you or go read what you've written to me. Not any expectation of how often. Just a place for sweet things, sexy things."
I'd gotten the idea while thinking about distance and time zones and insecurity. Perusing old texts is good, but a one-stop place for just love notes is better.
"I love it." He brought me to him and met me for a kiss. "Is this for me or you?"
I had no problem with him knowing I was planning for our time apart. "You saw my love notes from high school. I love them. Texts get lost in a hundred other texts. We can even copy texts over. Pictures. You keep a gratitude journal. This is similar."
"Did you make that up?"
I shrugged, "I doubt it." I showed him how to navigate and create new notebooks. Our first notebook was "Sex To Do" We'd done that together. The one I’d been in, "Moments”, was short form memories. "Holding hands for nine hours with food and conversation.", "Waking in Paris to see you watching me sleep”, "Me showing you architecture", "You showing me artifacts".
Sebastian immediately knew something he wanted to add, I showed him how to create space between limes so he could insert his words. He was going to write in burgundy and me in navy blue. He created a notebook for longer things. He liked to write and wanted a place for more words.
I waited until he’d gotten down a thought before showing him what I'd been most excited for. "Things for Sebastian." I’d already started.
· Te iubesc, Sebasti-an
· I was so lucky to find a lost boy in a grocery store
· You always make me feel cherished and safe
"This one is for battling insecurities. You can read my words and know what you mean to me. You've said you struggle with distance, insecurity, feeling emotionally cut off. I thought this might help keep a connection."
"You've made a security journal."
I thought a moment, "I guess. We've hit a couple of bumps and worked through them. I hoped this may help keep it away over distance."
I watched him switch notebooks and read what I'd written. "Anything I write shows up for you?"
"Yes, once the app refreshes.”
Sebastian looked over with the softest smile I'd ever seen on him. "I love you." The softest kiss followed. "I tell you I'm looking for the perfect moment to kiss you and you create it. I tell you I have confidence issues and you tell me everyone hears that voice. I have a panic attack and you push me to take care of myself. I lay out my anxieties, overthinking, insecurity, and history of shutting women out and you don’t even blink. Now you come up with this way to stay connected with old-fashioned love notes." He bobbed his head back and forth. "More or less." He kissed me. "You want me to feel safe and loved."
I took a deep breath, "Partly." I was telling him my plan to battle his stuff so it was only fair I let him in on mine.
He looked at me questioningly.
"I've never been away from some I love for six weeks. I'm going to miss you and it's going to be hard. This is for me too." I am not going to cry.
His hand went under my hair to my neck, "Are you about to cry?"
"I'm trying not to, but the chance of tears Friday about noon is one hundred percent."
I let him pull me close enough to kiss, "I better get busy." He retreated to his side of the seat, stretching out a leg over my lap, and turning where I couldn't see what he was typing on his phone.
"You realize the whole point is I can see what you write."
"Don't refresh yet. I don't think we should tell each other when we add stuff."
I nodded my agreement.
He stuck his tongue out the corner of his mouth like he was thinking. He typed a bit then looked over, "If I miss you in the middle of the night, I can write you and it will be there when you wake up. I don’t know which I’m looking more forward to. Writing or reading.”
I didn’t either.

Comforting Game Night
Word Count: ~1300, One shot
Pairing: None (Dean, Sam, and Reader are all friends)
Warnings: Mentions of emotional abuse, one mention of sexual abuse, relationship trauma, drinking
Summary: After finding out some news regarding her past, Y/N opens up to the brothers. Distraught, she requests a game night from the brothers.
A/N: Hello loves! Hope you enjoy the fic. -Sarah
------------------------------------------------------------------
Y/N sat at the table in the bunker’s library, on her laptop. Dean and Sam were also in the room, with Dean across from her on his own laptop. Sam, however, was sitting cross-legged in the corner, surrounded by lore books. Glancing over, Y/N smiled to herself at the hilarious view that was an insanely tall man sitting on the floor like a child. The three hunters had been in the library for hours, focused on their tasks.
Dean was looking for new cases and watching some slapstick comedy. His laughter was the only thing breaking the silence every so often. Sam had his nose deep in a book that listed the various descriptions of zombies in literature. The boys hadn’t noticed that Y/N’s eyes had begun to water, breathing shallow.
Ripping her headphones out of her ears, she stood up and slammed her laptop closed. This led both of the boys to look in the direction of the noise, startled by the abruptness. Y/N cleared her throat before addressing the brothers.
“Okay, boys. I am going to scream for a second, probably cry a little bit. Who knows, I might even break something. But once it is over, I will be able to calm down and explain the meaning behind it all,” she spoke, eerily calm despite the contents of her sentence.
The boys stared at her, wide-eyed and silently nodding. Nodding back, Y/N took a deep inhale and screamed through the exhale. Tears began to fall onto her cheeks, though she did not seem to notice or care.
Y/N picked up her glass of water that sat on the table and gulped it down. Once it was empty, she threw the glass across the room. Once it shattered she put her hands onto her knees, taking a couple long, deep breaths.
“Great. Thank you both for letting me do that real quick uninterrupted,” Y/N said calmly once more, wiping her face dry with the flannel that had been laid across the back of her chair. Sitting back down, she motioned for Sam to join her and Dean at the table. He made his way over, sitting at a seat over from Dean.
“So boys, I know that I am not very open about my past. Part of this is because it was incredibly boring until the two of you found me in the Djinn’s lair. The other part, well frankly, it’s depressing, and I don’t like to dwell on it. Before we met, I was in a very emotionally abusive relationship. He was a friend from a young age and groomed me, knowing that I was vulnerable. This all led to him sexually abusing me.”
Dean’s jaw clenched in anger, and Sam bit his lip, looking down at the table. Hearing these words come out of Y/N’s mouth was like a punch to the gut. She noticed the brother’s reactions but continued regardless.
“Anyway, I am okay and have worked through it. But today, I found an article about a new up and coming CEO of some sort of company. I didn’t read the article long enough to find out. As soon as I clicked on it, I saw his picture…” Y/N said, her voice filled with pain, “you know, I had always wondered what happened to him. I think I was hoping he was dead in a ditch somewhere or in prison. I definitely wasn’t the only one, so maybe one of the others went to the police. I never looked him up because of this. Seeing that he is this successful, popular, rich man… it just awoke this trauma that I hadn’t faced in so long.”
Sam and Dean had both been patient and attentive as Y/N shared her story. Both of them felt such pain for her, now knowing what life had been like for her before the brothers came along. Coughing, Dean spoke up.
“Name and address?” He requested, looking into her eyes with full seriousness.
“I know that you want to hurt him…” you began to say before Dean swiftly interrupted.
“I don’t want to hurt him, Y/N, I want to kill him,” Dean said, mimicking the calm voice she had immediately after reading the news.
“I know that you want to kill him,” she restarted, “but it isn’t worth the time. He doesn’t deserve to be sought out. I think that he will get what is coming to him, either now or once he joins Crowley down below. Either way, I don’t want his blood on my hands or yours. He is the villain and I refuse to let that change.”
“Okay Y/N. Is there anything we can do to help you then?” Sam asked.
“Well, I think I’m gonna sit out on the next hunt. I know we don’t have anything planned yet, but I don’t want to go in and half-ass a hunt. I won’t be able to fully focus for a minute, after getting this news. So…. yeah.” Y/N shrugged. It was tough to admit that she needed a break.
“Of course. Anything else?” Dean said softly.
“I think that you two just being here and listening to me has helped a lot. I never told anyone, so it’s nice not to carry this alone anymore. I thought that I would have seen the red flags, but I guess it was a gradual increase in behaviors. Nothing ever felt worse than the time before, so it didn’t seem that bad. I know that none of it is my fault, but there is still this sense of shame that attaches to you when something like this happens. I think that what I need now is just a relaxing night with my two best friends,” Y/N gave the brothers a small smile. She didn’t want them to worry about her too much.
“Done. Sammy, you get the board games. Y/N, you get the snacks, and I, of course, will grab the booze.” Dean decided with a broad grin.
The three of them quickly went about their job, Sam bringing the largest pile of games his big arms could carry. Dean grabbed a case of beer, a bottle of whiskey and one of tequila. Y/N ran to the kitchen and grabbed popcorn, multiple kinds of chips, and some candy.
Meeting back at the table, they quickly decided to start playing Jenga. They stacked the Jenga blocks until they had a tower.  Making it into a drinking game, each time one person successfully pulled out a piece the other two were required to take a drink. Y/N took the tequila while the boys used the bottle of whiskey.
All three of the hunters got their game faces on and their bottles opened. Quickly, they were all tipsy and laughing. The game ended with Dean losing, grabbing a piece, and yanking it out more roughly than intended.
Next was Monopoly, the three getting fiercely competitive. Dean and Sam repeatedly argued over the rules of the game, with Y/N being the tie-breaker.
Soon, all thoughts of Y/N’s past had fallen to the wayside, the alcohol and games bringing smiles to their faces. Dean was Zoolander drunk, doing a long-winded impression of the dumb model. Sam and Y/N couldn’t help but crack up every time Dean would motion to the board and say, “what is this, a game for ants?”
This continued until the early hours of the morning. By that time, the whole case of beer was gone, as well as the entire whiskey bottle and most of the tequila. The three attempted to stumble back to their rooms, only making it as far as Dean’s.
Taking one of the pillows, Sam cuddling up on the floor like a puppy. Y/N was laying across the foot of the bed, while Dean was at a diagonal. It did not take long for the drunken giggles to be replaced by snoring and slow, even breathing.
While they may wake up with the worst hangovers in the morning, it was completely worth it. The boys had successfully cheered Y/N up, with them having a game night that they would reminisce on for years to come.

For @giucorreias Flufftober 2020 Day 3 prompt- Sunshine
'You've mellowed, Draco,' Pansy opined, taking a drag from the joint before passing it to Millie on her left. 'The Gryffindors have done their number on you.'
Draco Malfoy snorted. 'Nope,' he denied.
Blaise laughed, slapping his thigh. 'This,' he said in between bouts of laughter, 'is exactly what she meant. Normally, a stinging hex would have been your answer.'
'On the contrary,' Daphne said, picking the cigarette out of Millie's mouth. 'If the Gryffindors have had any influence on him, he would have physically tackled you both.'
'That's more like it,' Draco nodded.
Nobody said anything for a while. They were enjoying a very rare, much awaited and incredibly precious Slytherin-only gathering in a small clearing in the Forbidden Forest. It had been almost impossible to not have some Gryffindor hanging off their shoulders for two months now what with the lions accompanying them everywhere from showers to classes, but that day, Granger had Arithmancy for her afternoon class. Longbottom had volunteered to help Prof. Sprout weed out the greenhouses and Weasley and Potter had gone to Diagon to the joke shop. Ginevra and Lovegood were at the quidditch trials, which left the Slytherins with a golden opportunity.
Unlike rumours and speculations, the Forbidden Forest, had a cheerful air about it, though slightly dark with the thick canopy. The five of them sat in a circle under a bubble of protective charms, sharing a joint and blowing out smoky rings, or as in Pansy's case, trying to. An idle, and clearly out of place bird, was humming a sweet tune. There was the occasional rustling of leaves and the half growl and half bark of some as yet unencountered forest animal but Draco was relaxed.
Draco and Potter's dynamic had undoubtedly changed ever since Potter got that dragon lily tattoo on Halloween, even though Potter's behaviour towards him didn't. He still went to classes with Draco and sat next to him, partnering him in Charms, Potions and DADA. No one had mentioned anything about the tattoo in the two weeks since and Draco wasn't a fool to harbour hope that they didn't understand its significance too. He wasn't going to talk about it for as long as he could.
'Muggles celebrate Thanksgiving in November,' Blaise said, inhaling deeply. 'On the fourth Thursday, to be exact.'
'What is it for?' Millie's tone was curious.
'To be grateful to the good things or people that happened to them that year? Mother says Muggles cherish it a lot.'
'How's Maine? Is it suiting her?' Pansy asked.
'She says that's where she's going to settle down but that is what she said of Milan too so I wouldn't bet on it.'
Daphne's brows were furrowed. 'Why are you telling us about this Thanksgiving?' That girl was quick and sharp, no matter how clueless she sometimes acted to be.
'Well,' Blaise said, licking his lips, 'we should thank them too, don't you think?'
It had been easy for Draco to get a first edition copy of Rare Charms and Unique Spells for Granger, a chocolate frog card made in honour of Fred Weasley for Weasley and his sister and an assorted collection of Celestina Warbeck's classics for Longbottom, who loved them and transferred some of his admiration for her onto Blaise as well.
Pansy, Daphne and Millie had got some trinkets, rings and other accessories for all the girls while Blaise imported an Italian Bellflower plant for Neville. The purchases were all made through owl-post, from stores suggested by Narcissa Malfoy, under the name of Madame Zabini.
Draco curiously couldn't think of the best gift to Potter, though Potter was the one he knew the best out of everyone else. He decided he would ask Potter what he wanted but as the days passed, either Draco or Potter found themselves otherwise busy, to say more than "hey" to each other.
Draco sighed and shrugged. There was nothing he could do.
Thanksgiving dawned on them, abnormally cold and cloudy. Draco woke up late from a fitful sleep and didn't even have time to overthink if the atmosphere outside was setting the tone to what was to unfold that day.
Daphne had done that for him, however, whining every possible minute she could about how potentially disastrous the others could think their gifts were. Pansy and Blaise, in their attempts to find courage in liquor since they seemed to lack it in themselves, added to it after stumbling into the common room drunk, half an hour later than the time they had fixed.
Even then, Draco was glad when they had all assembled.
'So,' he began, fidgeting with his shirt, 'Blaise told us, technically it was Blaise's mother, that muggles celebrate Thanksgiving on the fourth Thursday of November and well,' he gulped, ' well,' he licked his lips, 'we just..'
'Here are the gifts, bitches!' Pansy screamed, wand shooting confetti into the air as she twirled, tripped and fell over the neatly wrapped presents. 'Oops,' she said, grinning up at them with a dazed look in her eyes.
The stress of worrying his brains over the small surprise that lit up the faces of everyone present, finally melted away the stress beneath his skin. Draco wasn't even aware that he was beaming until Blaise knocked him on the shoulder, sloshed and swaying.
'You've become a sap, Draco,' he slurred.
'And you, a Hufflepuff,' Draco retorted, grinning wider, because yes, this group of unlikely people made each other smile to the maximum.
'I don't want to see all of your teeth, Draco.'
'I don't want to see you bouncing like a toddler either.'
'I'm in full control of myself, thanks.'
Draco had to give him a once over then. 'Yes, I can see that.'
'Are you two arguing over who is better at pretending to be the least affected by our reaction?' Lovegood's sweet voice wafted from behind them followed, an instant later, by her floral perfume and then a smacking kiss to their cheeks.
Weasley and his sister came up to them next, eyes shimmering. They held up Fred's chocolate frog card that read "one half of the only two who managed to set off fireworks in the Great Hall and literally got away with it." That had been Draco's personal addition. He would never forget Umbridge's horror at that.
'This,' Weasley choked.
'Means a lot,' Ginevra said, barely keeping it together. 'Excuse me,' she whispered and then she was exiting the common room, Draco's eyes trained on her till the door shut behind her.
When he turned back, he found Potter staring at him and he blushed, remembering that he hadn't got anything for him.
Potter held up the broom polish from Blaise and a few shirts from the girls as if to ask, 'you?'
'I didn't know what to get for you,' Draco mumbled, rocking on his heels. Behind Potter he spotted a radiant Granger hugging Weasley and talking his ear off about the book in her hand.
'If-' Draco said, glancing back at Potter, 'tell me what you want and I'll get it. For you.'
'Anything?' Potter asked, a small smile playing on his lips.
'Yes, anything.' Draco didn't know how his voice sounded so confident.
'Well,' Potter smirked, 'I want to see the sun, make the clouds go away.'
Draco thought for a while and smiled back. 'Be ready, then.'
Next morning found them both racing through the sky on their brooms at four am.
'Is this revenge, Malfoy?' Potter shouted when they landed on the hill, wet and shivering from the rain falling at Hogwarts.
'Why, scared Potter?' He called back.
'You wish!'
They sat next to each other on a boulder, Draco making them face a certain point in the sky.
'I can't see anything there,' Potter grunted.
'Not yet,' Draco murmured.
'Where are we anyway? Why isn't there snow here?'
'Shut up and watch, Potter.'
And watch they did as the sky lightened and the sun rose in a golden hue. Potter was dumbstruck.
Draco laughed at his expression, wrapping one arm around Potter's shoulder. It was instinctual but Draco had never initiated it before. He froze until Potter leaned into him, resting his head on Draco's shoulder.
'Do you know why I like the November sun?' He asked quietly. 'It shines brighter than in May. There's something about the warmth of the wintry sun, don't you think?' Potter looked up at him.
Draco's gaze was hooked onto the way the emerald orbs were reflecting the sunlight, brimming with satisfaction.
'Yes,' Draco whispered, not looking away. 'The sunshine is brighter.'
This is probably a bit here and there and I tried to make it not huge but 🤷🏻‍♀️

Wish We Could
Chapter Two: London
{ Pairing: Hermione Granger x Fred Weasley
Summary: After the Battle of Howgarts, Hermione and Ron start dating; their slow-burn friends to lovers arc complete. He’s nice, and she’s comfortable, and everyone is happy for them. Everyone but Fred, who can’t stop thinking that he loved her first, and Hermione, who begins to wonder if they really are as over as she thought they were. }
22nd August 1998, Night
“Well that was a colossally stupid thing to do,” George says from his old bed in The Burrow, spending the night at their mother’s insistence. Half laying down, he doesn’t look up from his magazine. Fred stands uncomfortably still, staring out the window, as though shell-shocked, even though Errol has long been out of sight.
“Yup.”
23rd August 1998, Morning
It was true that it didn’t take an awful lot to keep her up all night: a new book, a good essay, or better, a long one. Hermione had pulled her fair share of all-nighters, but none like this.
“Were you up all night reading again darling?” Her mother asks, taking stock of her daughter’s messier than usual hair, the shadows around her puffy eyes.
“Yes.” This wasn’t a lie exactly — she’d read that letter countless times.
“You look awful.” It sounds harsh, but her mother’s furrowed brow shows real concern.
“It was a sad story.”
1st July 1996
Summer had come to engender mixed emotions in Hermione. On the one hand she was of course excited to see her parents again, but on the other, she missed her friends terribly. She never had friends like Ron and Harry before; friends she saw day and night, friends she shared every meal with, friends she knew from experience would risk their lives for her as quickly as she would for them. She had no siblings, and had hardly kept in touch with the few friends from primary school. It was too difficult to keep fabricating stories about her Very Normal Boarding School Where Nothing Life-Threatening Ever Happened. So home for Hermione had become synonymous with the sort of deep-seated loneliness one only feels when one knows precisely what they are missing.
And now, to make matters worse, there was Fred. Fred who had kissed her in the hospital, and again by the lake, and again in several empty hallways while they waited for term to officially end. Fred who had, over the past year become more important to her than she ever would have expected. Fred, who didn’t look at her like he was lost and she was supposed to have the map, or make it. Fred, who so often grabbed her by the hand with a whiny come on Hermione, mischief dancing across his face, and dragged her along for some pure and honest thrill-seeking, who showed her the world as she had never seen it before.
The shrill ring of the telephone abruptly cut through her melancholia. Assuming it was only her parents phoning from work, she took her time making her way downstairs.
“Hello?”
“Hermione?”
“Fred?” She asked, her voice pitched with incredulity. “How are you calling? Why are you calling?”
“I believe it’s called a payphone and I am using one because I wanted to talk to you.” Even through the crackle and static, the teasing grin in his voice was obvious.
“Wanted?”
“Want.” He could hear the smile in her voice too.
24th August 1998, 10:17 a.m.
Perhaps George was right, and that her silence over the weekend means she isn’t coming. She is wiser than Fred after all. And George is usually right. Still, Fred waits, at an al fresco table at Florean Fortescue’s Ice Cream Parlour, his right leg bouncing manically up and down, his eyes flitting to his watch every few seconds. He has been sitting there for forty-eight minutes.
Of course, Hermione knew at once that it was an undoubtedly bad idea, going to see Fred. Though really, it would only be a bad idea if she still has feelings for him, which she doesn’t, or if he still has feeling fore her, which she is sure isn’t true either. Then there is the fact that she had hardly made it to Florean’s all summer, and he has a lovely blackcurrant and gin ice-cream that he’s meant to stop making once Autumn rolls round. But then there is the question of why precisely Fred wants to meet her. And then there is Ron. Such thoughts chased each other in circles around her head, nipping at each other’s heals all Saturday night and most of Sunday, until another owl arrived. This one with a note from Flourish and Blotts asking her to please collect her order at her earliest convenience. Was Monday morning around 10 a.m. not her earliest convenience?
And so at eight-thirty on this almost chilly August morning, Hermione left her house for Belsize Park station, hopped on the Northern line, and alighted five stops later at Leister Square. She walked two minutes in the direction of The Leaky Cauldron, changed her mind, and instead went to Foyles, which reminded her that she did indeed need to go to Flourish and Blotts. After buying just three books and a new book bag, she again made her way to The Leaky Cauldron, then onward to Diagon Alley. This whole harrowing ordeal took over an a hour, and so apart from picking up Merlin’s Annotated Dante’s Inferno, she decided to splurge a little on some new quills, a well of peacock blue ink, and a couple of fancy leather bound notebooks.
It is perhaps this added weight that, on observing Fred Weasley’s anxious form outside Florean’s, impedes her attempted escape. Instead, before she can take two steps back the way she just came, she feels a hand pulling at her wrist.
“Hermione, wait.” She turns to see him looking imploringly at her with his bright green eyes, so wide and so close she can see flecks of gold in them, reflecting the morning sun. “It’s just ice-cream.”
Just ice-cream — who could argue with that? They order two scoops each and return to the table he had already occupied, Hermione dumping her bag on an empty chair emphatically in a show of annoyance. For a while they sit in silence; her refusing to speak first, and him not wanting to risk ruining their fragile peace. She scoops ice-cream into her mouth without looking up from her bowl, and he eats slowly, without looking away from her.
“I want the record to show that I think this is a colossally stupid thing to do,” she says suddenly, her eyes still fixed on her food.
“Well I suppose ice-cream’s never the healthiest thing in the world but Florean’s is pretty —“
“You know what I mean,” she cuts him off bitingly.
“The record will reflect that both you and George think that this is a colossally stupid thing to do. However, I would like to remind all relevant parties that it was my idea, and between the two of us I am the only Ravenclaw so therefore—“
“What do you want Fred.” She phrased it like a question, but her tone makes it abundantly clear that she would like nothing more than for him to just shut up.
“I just want to talk.” He looks abashed, or as abashed as he can look for Fred Weasley.
“I’m not sure we have anything to talk about.”
“Oh,” he says in a tone both needled and needling, “I think we have plenty to talk about.”
“Like what Frederick? You broke us up remember? Not me. You’re the one who walked away —”
“I walked away? You were the one who was leaving. You left —”
“I had to go. You’re the one who said you couldn’t —“
“And you’re the one who hung up the phone. And you’re the one who kissed —”
“I knew this was a mistake.” She grabs her bag, her chair scraping harshly on the flagstones in her haste to leave, desperate to not hear the end of that sentence.
“Hermione —“ He whines, but she doesn’t look at him. Can’t.
“Good bye Fred.”
17th July 1997
“Good bye Fred.”
“Hermione —“
A click as the phone disconnected. He stood alone in the red phone booth, in the flat above the store.
“You alright there mate?” George asked from the couch, turning from the Daily Prophet, his brows furrowed with concern.
The receiver still held to his ear. The singular, monotonous hang-up tone filled his head, his body, pervading the very fibre of his being.
2nd July 1996, Morning
“Buoyant” was the only word that came to mind as Hermione walked down Charing Cross.  She felt buoyant. She had resigned herself to spending the week or so before she and her parents went on vacation wandering around Hampstead with nothing but her books for entertainment, until Fred called and asked if they could meet the following day — today — at The Leaky Cauldron. So she made her way there, buoyantly, glad for some company and more so that it was his.
“Granger!” He hailed from the curb. Of course, her heart didn’t actually skip a beat, but it felt like it did.
“Why are you waiting out here?”
“Well the Cauldron’s a bit of a dive yeah? And Diagon Alley is just the one alley and we’ve been loads so I thought maybe you could show me your London?” He says, all in one breath. She wasn’t sure but she thought his face pinked a little.
“My London?”
“You know… Muggle London.”
“Why?”
“I dunno — if I’m going to live here I should know the area. And,” he added, looking down and rubbing the back of his neck. His speech became stilted. “I want to know what your world’s like.”
“Okay,” she smiled. Buoyantly.
The first place she thought to take him was of course Foyles bookstore, because it was close, and because, well, books. A whole monumental treasury of books.
“Bloody hell,” his eyes widened in child-like wonderment the second they walked through the door. The patchwork rainbow of spines and covers, the smell of new books, the sheer notion of being surrounded by so many stories, and so much knowledge. Even if it only lasted a moment, Hermione had never seen him so still or so quiet before, and she briefly wondered if she had broken him. “This place is massive,” he spun around as he spoke, taking it all in, “is everything in London this big?”
“Not everything. Just a lot of things.” She couldn’t look away from him, the spark in his eyes eliciting an adoring smile. “Did you bring any quid?”
“What’s that?” He asked, not really listening.
“Pounds, muggle money, did you bring any?”
His face blanched as he turned to look at her sheepishly. “Might have forgotten. But I have regular money.”
“‘Regular’ is a state of mind Frederick. And wizard currency far from regular. It’s ridiculous.”
“It’s not!”
“29 knuts to a sickle and 17 sickles to a galleon? It’s completely impractical.”
“Okay fine. Maybe you have a point.”
“Oh I definitely have a point.” Hermione retorted, grinning from ear to ear. She insisted that she had been meaning to change some money anyway, so they switched 10 galleonss for £50.
He moved further inside slowly, overwhelmed and unsure of where to start. At first he simply trailed behind her, but eventually wandered off on his own, winding through the stacks and pulling books off the shelves to peruse at length. She found him in a corner near the children’s section over an hour later, surrounded by piles of books ranging from classic literature to astrophysics. The only things he seemed sure of were a home improvement manual for Mr. Weasley, and the first two volumes of Asterix and Obelix.
“You alright there, Frederick?” She asked, crouching down beside him.
“There’s so many Hermione. How am I supposed to pick? I’ve never even heard of half these subjects before. Do I need a book about aerospace technology? Do I need seven? How should I know?”
“I’m going to go out on a limb and say you don’t need any.”
“Help me,” he whined, looking up at her with his big, doleful green eyes. He had never in his life felt quite so distressed. She sorted through the volumes surrounding him, eventually selecting The English Patient — one of her personal favourites — A Midsummer Night’s Dream, and a history of 20th century archaeological discoveries.
When they at last emerged, it was onto a London bustling with the lunch-time rush. Rather hungry themselves they went in search of sustenance and managed, with a little magical persuasion, to find a table in a small French bakery. At their window seat they split a quiche Lorraine and a croque monsieur, drank iced-chocolate, and tried to stave off the crash that inevitably follows a bookstore-high.
“You’re being awfully quiet today.”
“Hm?” He perked up. “Oh, sorry. It’s just a lot to take in, this.” He gestured vaguely to the sprawling city outside.
“But do you like it?”
He shrugged. “I love it.”
“Good.” She smiled, satisfied, settling further back in her seat.
“Do you like it?” He asked after a moment’s silence, studying her face carefully.
She picked at her food, considering. “I do but… I’m usually alone. I think I like it better with you.” She paused, then nodded as if affirming the truth of it to herself. “This quiche is pretty good.” She raised her fork but before she could take another bite, he was leaning across the table, one hand lightly holding her face, pressing his mouth to hers.
24th August 1998, Evening/Night
This time, Hermione is certain of it. She will not leave her room until the first of September. Her parents however are not on the same page.
“Hermione dear?” Her mother calls, hearing the jingle of keys in the front door. “Is that you? Come into the kitchen.” Hermione obliges, and finds her parents reading different newspapers at the kitchen table, with a steaming pot of earl grey and a plate of shortbread between them like they did everyday after work. The sight is enough to warm Hermione’s heart. She had missed this almost more than she could bear.
“How was your day darling?” Her father asks without looking up.
“Fine.”
“Did you buy any books?” Mrs. Granger does not look up either.
“I bought a few, yes.”
“That’s nice.” Her father offers, taking a sip of his tea.
Hermione lingers by the doorway, not saying anything. Eventually her mother looks at her, and observes a certain heaviness in her countenance. “Why do you look upset? Come sit down and have some tea.”
“Is this about Ron?” Mr Granger inquires, a particularly paternal brand of protectiveness evident in both his tone and in his eyes.
“Is it about the brother?” Her mother asks with hawklike instinct.
“Are you thinking about your… adventures?”
“You promised no more secrets darling.”
“I don’t want to talk about it right now,” Hermione interjects before they can pursue their line of questioning any further. They blink at her, equally taken aback. “If that’s okay with you,” she adds imploringly, unwaveringly meeting their eyes. They in turn consider their daughter carefully.
“Well alright then,” her mother says, turning back to her paper. “Dinner is in an hour. Go wash up.”
So she does, and she eats dinner with her parents, and after that she re-reads her new herbology textbook in the living room while her mother reads a le Carré and her father listens to a radio comedy. And she’s happy, honestly. She’s happy to be nestled in the warm glow of her childhood home, with her unchanging parents. She’s happy they are safe, and that for the first time in years there was nothing foreboding hovering on the horizon. She is happy, or at least, she is content.
Fred Weasley on the other hand is far from happy or content. After his rather disastrous morning he went straight back to the flat above the store, determined to spend the rest of his day off in bed. He didn’t move for hours. Rather impressively, he was still in bed when George came up after closing. His hair stuck out at odd angles as though he had been trying to pull it out, his sheets were fitfully dishevelled.
“Oh mate,” said George with an emphatically slow shake of his head, “you really need to get a grip.”
Fred looked up from Asterix and Cleopatra, shooting his brother a reproachful look.
“I’m going into London to get dinner. Do try to regain some level of composure before I get back yeah?”
That seemed like too much effort, so Fred fell asleep instead. He wakes up much later, at 1:38 a.m with London rolling round his head like a marble dipped in luminous dye, tracing webs of light. Quietly, he grabs his Nimbus 2001, climbs out the window onto the roof, and shoots off into the night. A certain frost sparks in the air, pinching at his skin. The wind whips through his hair, at his cheeks, stirs something inside his chest.
All the lights are off in the Grangers’ Hampstead home when he arrives, about 20 minutes later. All but the warm glow of a reading lamp emanating from what he knows is Hermione’s window. He hovers across the street, obscured by trees and shadow. He can see her silhouette on the sheer white curtains, sitting in bed, perfectly still, her head bowed slightly. Reading, most likely. His mind wanders to all the times he’d seen her in that exact posture, in a zen-state of complete focus; her small placid mouth, her smooth brow, the inward curve of her nose, mahogany brown ringlets framing her face. He remembers how he used to try and touch her cheek, her nose, her mouth, and how she would swat him away like she was shooing a fly.
She moves; her arms stretch above her head, her hands intertwined. She switches off the light, and Fred goes home.
2nd July 1996, Evening
“Had a good day darling?” Her mother called from the kitchen as Hermione closed the front door.
“It was alright, yes,” she said, leaning against the kitchen doorway. But the smile spread across her face suggested that it was a lot more than simply alright.
“What did you do?” Her father asked, his nose still in his paper.
“Oh you know, just went central. I met up with Fred. Went to Foyles. Had lunch. Walked around.”
“Who’s Fred?” Her father asked sharply, head snapping to face her.
“Ron’s brother,” she replied. Suddenly embarrassed, she shifted her weight nervously.  “One of the twins. You’ve met him before dad.”
“Why were you with Fred?” Her mother’s stare was as piercing as her father’s tone.
“Well he and George just moved to Diagon Alley and he asked me to show him around a bit,” she replied in one breath.
“Just Fred?”
“Yes.” Her face burned under her parents’ scrutiny, and she struggled to hold their gaze, not wanting to seem guilty, like she was hiding something.
“Why?”
Hermione only shrugged in response, pursed her lips, desperate for this to be over. “I’m going to shower now.” She turned abruptly and left the room.
“Dinner’s in an hour,” Mrs. Granger called after her daughter. A door slammed shut upstairs. She turned to her husband, and they shared a look of utter disbelief.
