Musing on Movie!Nessa's Future in Part 2
A lot of people simultaneously expressing confusion alongside their celebration of Nessarose finally being played by a wheelchair user, because her being able to walk in act 2 is obviously a huge plot point--the spell cast on the shoes is what turns them into the ruby slippers which establishes the continuity and leads to a bunch of other plot threads, etc etc.
This is obviously the reason a lot of people give for her being played by an able-bodied actress in the past, it's obviously a bullshit reason because a huge majority of wheelchair users are ambulatory and can walk and stand for varying periods of time just fine. So like. They could have still had an ambulatory wheelchair user playing her, but I digress: the point is she is played by Marissa Bode in the movie. A wheelchair user, hurray!
These are just the opinions of someone who is not a wheelchair user so take them with a grain of salt (and please speak up if you have your own stuff to say as a member of the community!) but from what I can see as someone who's been insane about Wicked for about 15 years now, the movie did a lot of good for Nessa's character. Previously, the ableism toward her was baked into the metanarrative itself, but it's now been moved to a more realistic place--the characters within the story.
Previously Nessa was treated with little agency or autonomy not only by the characters but by the people writing the story. Most notably of all, her chair is constantly being grabbed and wheeled around by other characters. The movie corrects this--she is very rarely wheeled around except by her father (and he is called out for his coddling/infantilizing of her by Elphaba within 2 minutes of their introduction) and the one time a stranger tries to do this in what reads even to me as a genuinely traumatizing and far too familiar scene for any wheelchair user to have to sit through, Elphaba immediately fucking goes apeshit and starts throwing fucking furniture. Nessa herself also tries to advocate for herself and tell the professor in question to stop kidnapping/assaulting her and is, again, realistically not listened to.
This last bit obviously happens in the stage musical too but Nessa's own agency is much less pronounced. The movie adds little things here and there to give her more of that agency--Elphaba's protectiveness is much less "I have to help and watch over my poor disabled sister" and much more "I have to make sure no one underestimates or takes advantage of her." Even the plot detail that Elphaba was not there to be her caretaker but just to drop her off and make sure she got settled in her dorm adds leaps and bounds to Nessa's autonomy. Her and Boq's shared look in the opening ceremonies where they both bond beforehand at their inability to see over the crowds' standing ovation. And of course, the dance scene, where he no longer wheels her out but instead beckons her to follow him!
These little details add up in ways that are, at least in my opinion, very meaningful. They also extend to the production itself--where the sets were made accessible for Marissa and she was even allowed to do her own stunts, in her wheelchair! That part in the beginning where Elphaba levitates her was her in a harness in her fucking chair and all. Dope as FUCK.
So I am mentioning all of this because I think the people working on this movie have shown that they are unafraid to make changes to Nessa to be more respectful to her agency. The ableism she faces, which is still plentiful, is framed as such instead of just casually brushed off & baked into the narrative. By making these small changes, Nessa is not just an unfortunate stereotype of a disabled woman, but a real and fleshed-out person who is dealing with the consequences of those exact stereotypes in the society she lives in. I really liked that! I don't know how others feel about it, but I thought it was very well-shifted.
All that said, 'curing' your disabled character is obviously, like, the biggest no-no of writing a disabled character. And that plot beat is a huge one in every version of Wicked... so far. But here's the thing. We have a shot of Dorothy wearing the slippers. And they... are silver.
Why. Are they silver.
And they are silver in all of Dorothy's small little cameos. Every single one. Even though this shot, which was used primarily for promotional material to draw people in like "Hey! Wizord of Oz! This is What The Refrance!" did not make the choice to even suggest that they should ever be red. One of the most important pieces of iconography, consciously and notably absent.
I genuinely don't think Nessa's going to have her disability taken away in part 2. With how much love to this part of her has been done to the retooling of her character, I do not think it is a stretch to assume that they will find a way to advance the plot without removing her disability. I believe this because that is the right thing to do for Nessa, to ascend her character, however you feel about it--she should stay in her chair. She deserves to continue on the way she is.
I realize this little change effects a lot. But after seeing part one, I am confident they can do it and do it well and replace what the change takes away with something just as good. I have so much faith in the direction of these movies. I really, truly believe it will happen and it will be good and satisfying and perfect.
It might still happen, sure--Marissa might get a stunt double, or CGI, or some other brand of movie magic. The shoes may still get enchanted and stay silver to pay homage to the original Oz books. But I can't help but consider that idea and keep asking myself... why. That makes so much less sense. Why not give movie audiences the red slippers, draw them in with the imagery, give them one more lion cub in the bike basket or Boq talking about how much he cries or poppies putting the whole class to sleep. Why not give us the ruby slippers when you... could.
I think because this is going to be a big, long awaited improvement. And I think it is hiding there in plain sight.

It was around 2:45AM on January 14, 2009, when Gilbert, Arizona, police received a distressing 911 call from a woman. She reported that her husband had strangled her and tried to sexually assault her. Rushing to the scene, police officers found the front door wide open, and moments later, a frantic woman emerged. She bore bloodstains on her forehead and in her hair, but when questioned about her injuries, she claimed the blood was her husband’s.
The distraught woman was Marissa DeVault. An officer entered the residence and proceeded to the master bedroom, where he discovered 34-year-old Dale Harrell. Dale lay naked, face down on the floor, bleeding profusely from the head, and thrashing his arms and legs while moaning in pain. A blood-soaked pillow adorned the bed, and a blood-stained claw hammer rested on the bedside table.
Dale was urgently transported to the hospital, where medical professionals revealed the extensive damage to his shattered skull. Remarkably, he clung to life, requiring extensive surgical intervention.
However, detectives soon learned that not everything was as it first seemed...

I randomly remembered that after the "being blackmailed into stealing a car" saga, Ryan was like oh God Marissa I was with you the whole night and Marissa was immediately like you ok? Yeah I'll be your allibi 😭
I just love that they were broken up here but of course the trust and the ease were still there and they were almost... functional? (which the writers can't let them be when they are together?)
And then Marissa drove him to the Cohen house (or Sandy's meeting? I don't really remember) and Ryan was freaking out because there were cops, and she was like "Don't worry you were with me the whole night". Turns out the cops were there because Seth smoked a bit too much weed and accidentally set the whole office in fire 😭😭
Ok I hope what I wrote makes sense but on a serious note, the whole "Marissa dragged Ryan into her mess" argument is just dumb and misogynistic because first of all, they willingly involve THEMSELVES in each other's mess; secondly Marissa got involved in plenty of Ryan's mess too (Trey? Hello??) and also in this case, we can say that Ryan involved her in his mess. (Of course, unless one thinks that Ryan assaulting Volchok over jealousy about Marissa is her fault and therefore getting blackmailed by him into stealing a car was her fault too.) Now, as a shipper I thought that Ryan's jealousy was delicious and V-Man was asking for it anyways but it wasn’t the right thing to do and ultimately the assault->blackmail->stealing pipeline was on Ryan and Volchok and no one else.
Marissa in 3x24 is such a delight to take in. For just two seconds they let up on her in the writing and it's like a breath of fresh air. The party was Sandy being named The Man of the Year for... some reason. Something to do with his shitty hospital executive storyline or whatever.
Of course it makes sense :) Yeah, that's always been a point of contention in discourse surrounding this show. Not only is Marissa helping people out of the goodness of her heart with a splash of a hero complex, but Ryan's doing the same damn thing. He is willingly putting himself in these same situations but she is the only one cast out as 'leading guys on' and 'not treating her partners right'. It's just exhausting. They're mirrors of one another in many ways and I'm not sure the s3 writers even realized it.
So I personally think Ryan's jealousy is also very hot, but one thing I love about Marissa is that she is never, ever impressed with Ryan's violence or machismo. I think it makes her so three-dimensional. Another way these people writing her had no idea they were crafting such a subversive, compelling teenage girl.

Fan Fiction:
Halo: Shards of Honor
Chapter 1: The Gathering Clouds
The ground quaked beneath the boots of the UNSC Marines stationed at Fort Horizon, the distant booms of Covenant artillery blending with the howling winds of Carathon IV. Private Connor Halden, barely 19 and fresh from boot camp, tightened his grip on his MA5B assault rifle. Beside him, Corporal Marissa Vega, a hardened veteran of the Fall of Reach, muttered curses under her breath as she adjusted the sights on her sniper rifle.
“How long until they hit us?” Connor whispered, his voice cracking.
Marissa didn’t look up. “That sound? It’s just their calling card. When it stops, that’s when you worry.”
The artillery roar suddenly ceased. Connor’s blood ran cold.
From the ridge above, Master Chief Petty Officer John-117 scanned the valley below through his helmet’s VISR. A shimmering wave of cloaked Spec-Ops Sangheili crept through the rocky terrain, heading straight for the minefield. His voice cut sharply through the comms:
“Echo-One, enemy infiltrators are breaching the outer perimeter. Hold your fire until I give the signal.”
The Marines tensed, their training clashing with raw fear. Connor’s hands trembled as he stared at the shifting distortions in the air—barely visible outlines of the cloaked enemies.
Master Chief waited, his eyes tracking the Sangheili as they neared the first set of mines. Then, with a calm born of experience, he uttered one word:
“Now.”
A series of deafening explosions rippled through the valley. The mines obliterated several Sangheili, but the survivors retaliated instantly, hurling plasma grenades toward the UNSC positions. Connor screamed as plasma bolts detonated nearby, sending shards of rock and debris into the air.
The Covenant artillery resumed, louder and closer. Chief cursed under his breath as he saw a wave of Jiralhanae charge into the chaos, shielded by a Wraith tank. The Marines scrambled for cover, their sporadic gunfire barely scratching the tank’s thick armor.
“Chief, we can’t hold this position!” Marissa shouted over the comms.
Master Chief didn’t respond immediately. He was already moving, sprinting across the ridge and launching himself onto the Wraith from above. His energy sword, taken from a fallen enemy earlier in the campaign, ignited with a sharp hiss as he plunged it into the tank’s engine, disabling it in a burst of plasma and flame.
As the Wraith burned, Chief dropped to the ground, only to find himself surrounded by the surviving Jiralhanae. Their growls echoed menacingly as they closed in, barbed mauls raised high.
“Chief, do you copy?” Marissa’s voice crackled in his ear. “We’re falling back to the inner perimeter!”
Master Chief activated his comm. “Negative. Hold your ground. If we lose this line, the pass is theirs.”
The thunder of artillery grew louder. For a brief moment, Chief’s gaze turned skyward, catching the shadow of a Pelican overhead. Reinforcements were en route, but the Marines had to endure the storm until they arrived.
Gripping his MA5B, Chief turned to face the Jiralhanae. “No retreat,” he muttered, his voice steely. “Not here.”
The artillery’s thunder echoed once more, signaling the battle’s escalation.
Chapter 2: A Desperate Stand
The battered remnants of the UNSC defense forces regrouped within the scorched walls of Fort Horizon, their hope dwindling as Covenant forces swarmed the valley below.
Master Chief stood at the center of the command tent, his reflective visor masking the weariness in his eyes. A holographic map of the terrain flickered before him, displaying the narrow pass leading to the fort. Beside him, Lieutenant Carter Singh, the senior officer on-site, paced with anxious energy.
“This isn’t a defense anymore, Chief,” Carter growled, slamming his fist on the table. “It’s a last stand.”
Chief’s voice was calm, measured. “Not yet. If we control their movement, we can buy time for evac.”
Master Chief traced his finger along the holographic map, highlighting a series of choke points within the pass.
“Engineers, rig these locations with every explosive we’ve got. Plasma mines, leftover Covenant charges, even demo packs from our supply crates. Force them to funnel through here.”
Chief Engineer Sergeant Marco Grier nodded grimly. “We’ll need two hours to rig the pass.”
“Then you’ve got one,” Master Chief said firmly.
The Spartan turned to Captain Elena Monroe, leader of the ODSTs. “Your squads will infiltrate behind their lines. Sabotage their supply routes and draw their reinforcements away from the main force.”
Monroe nodded, her confidence unshaken despite the odds. “Just give me the word, Chief.”
Finally, Chief addressed the remaining Marines. “The rest of us hold Fort Horizon. Scorpions and Warthogs will anchor the line, while Pelicans provide air support. This isn’t just about survival—it’s about making them bleed for every inch they take.”
The room fell silent as the Spartan’s words sank in. Then, one by one, the soldiers nodded. They had no choice but to fight.
Hours later, the first wave of the Covenant forces surged into the valley, their Hunters leading the charge. Plasma fire lit up the twilight as the Marines hunkered down behind makeshift barricades.
From his perch above the pass, Master Chief watched the Covenant advance. “Hold,” he ordered through the comms, his voice steady despite the chaos.
The first Hunter stepped into the kill zone, its massive shield absorbing stray rounds. Master Chief’s hand hovered over the detonator.
“Hold…”
As the bulk of the Covenant forces funneled into the narrow passage, Master Chief pressed the trigger.
The ground erupted in a fiery cascade as explosives tore through the enemy ranks. Plasma mines sent shockwaves rippling through the canyon, and Covenant vehicles were thrown skyward in a blaze of purple and blue flames.
The Marines roared in defiance, opening fire on the survivors.
Behind enemy lines, Monroe’s ODSTs struck with precision.
“Move fast, stay quiet,” Monroe whispered as her team crept through the shadow of a Covenant supply depot.
With synchronized precision, the ODSTs planted charges on fuel tanks and communication relays. The explosions that followed sent the Covenant forces into disarray, forcing them to divert troops away from the frontlines.
“Target hit,” Monroe reported over comms, grinning as she watched the chaos unfold. “They’re scrambling, Chief. Hope your line can hold.”
At the fort, the battle raged. Scorpion tanks fired shell after shell, obliterating advancing enemy vehicles. Above, Pelicans swooped low, launching missile salvos into clusters of Covenant infantry.
Master Chief fought at the front, his energy sword cutting through Sangheili and Jiralhanae alike. His shield flared under plasma fire, but he pressed on, his focus unrelenting.
Connor Halden and Marissa Vega fought side by side, their bond forged in the crucible of battle. When Connor’s rifle jammed, Marissa pulled him down just in time to avoid a plasma bolt.
“Focus, kid!” she barked, tossing him a sidearm.
“I’m trying!” he shouted, his hands shaking as he reloaded.
Between waves, Master Chief found himself alone on the ridge, staring at the carnage below. The screams of the wounded and the acrid smell of burning metal filled the air.
Memories flooded his mind: his fireteam falling one by one during the Covenant War, the faces of civilians he couldn’t save, the weight of every life lost under his watch.
The thunder of approaching Covenant reinforcements snapped him out of his thoughts. Master Chief activated his comm.
“Everyone, hold the line. No one falls back.”
The Spartan drew his rifle, his voice resolute. “This is where we make our stand.”
Chapter 3: The Climax
The night sky over Fort Horizon ignited with plasma fire and tracer rounds as the Covenant unleashed their final assault. Despite the minefield ambush, the Covenant’s forces pressed forward with relentless precision, determined to crush the UNSC resistance.
Master Chief crouched on the ridgeline, his enhanced optics scanning the chaotic battlefield below. Suddenly, his HUD lit up with motion markers—Spec-Ops Sangheili, their forms shimmering under active cloaking devices, had breached the perimeter.
“Contact. Cloaked enemies in the minefield,” Chief reported calmly over comms.
The Marines braced themselves, but the Sangheili moved like ghosts, neutralizing sentries and disabling charges. Chief switched to his energy sword, the blade humming to life.
“On me,” he ordered. A fireteam of Marines followed him into the fray.
The firefight erupted in the minefield, plasma bolts streaking through the darkness. Chief’s blade arced through the air, cutting down one Sangheili after another. A stray grenade detonated a cluster of remaining mines, sending shockwaves through the canyon and vaporizing half the enemy vanguard.
Panting, a Marine spoke up, “Sir, the minefield’s gone.”
Chief gave a curt nod. “So are their infiltrators. Fall back to defensive positions.”
The respite was brief. Moments later, the ground shook under the advance of Jiralhanae-led armored units, massive Covenant vehicles lumbering forward through the wreckage.
“Scorpions, light ‘em up!” Lieutenant Carter’s voice roared over the comms.
The Marines rallied, their Scorpion tanks firing HE shells that tore into the enemy armor. Warthogs zipped between cover, chainguns blazing, but the Covenant's counterfire was devastating. Plasma turrets shredded makeshift barricades, and energy mortars sent explosions rippling through UNSC lines.
Connor Halden and Marissa Vega manned a Warthog turret, the young Marine’s resolve hardening under fire.
“Keep shooting, Connor!” Marissa shouted as she swerved to avoid an incoming plasma bolt.
He gritted his teeth, his rounds finally piercing the shield of an advancing Jiralhanae, dropping the brute in a spray of blood.
Despite their efforts, the UNSC line buckled under the weight of the assault. “We’re losing ground!” Carter shouted, his voice grim.
Chief knew they couldn’t hold much longer. “Monroe, I need your best,” he said over the comms.
“Always ready, Chief,” Monroe replied.
Chief handpicked a small strike team of ODSTs and led them on a daring counteroffensive. Under the cover of darkness and artillery fire, they slipped behind enemy lines, their target: the Covenant’s command post.
The infiltrators moved swiftly, evading patrols and neutralizing sentries with silenced weapons. At the command post, Chief hacked into a signal relay as Monroe’s team held off reinforcements.
“Chief, hurry!” Monroe shouted, her rifle blazing.
Chief’s fingers flew over the device’s interface. “Got it. Relaying coordinates to the Infinity now.”
Seconds later, the skies split apart as a slipspace rupture opened above the battlefield. The UNSC Infinity, the mightiest warship in the fleet, emerged with its complement of frigates and strike craft.
“Fort Horizon,” came the voice of Captain Gavin over the comms. “Reinforcement are on the way!”
Pelicans and Longswords rained fire down on the Covenant forces, decimating their armor and breaking their momentum. The tide had turned.
With the Covenant in disarray, Chief led a final charge back to the fort, his energy sword glowing in the dawn’s light.
“For Horizon!” he shouted, his voice rallying the remaining defenders.
The Marines surged forward, driving the Covenant into retreat. The once-invincible enemy faltered under the combined might of the UNSC forces, their morale shattered.
As the dust settled, Chief stood amidst the ruins of Fort Horizon, his armor scorched and battered. The cost had been staggering, but they had held.
Lieutenant Carter approached him, his face lined with exhaustion. “Hell of a fight, Chief. You saved us.”
Chief looked out over the battlefield, the weight of his choices pressing down on him.
Above, the Infinity loomed as a symbol of hope, its presence a reminder that the UNSC would never yield.
Chapter 4: Victory at a Cost
The first light of dawn broke over the charred battlefield, bathing the ruins of Fort Horizon in an eerie, golden glow. The UNSC defenders, battered but unbroken, dug into their last stronghold as the final moments of the battle played out. Reinforcements from the UNSC Infinity and its fleet struck decisively, sealing the fate of the Covenant’s assault.
Above the battlefield, squadrons of Longsword bombers screamed through the sky, their payloads of cluster munitions raining fire onto the Covenant’s remaining forces. Plasma anti-air fire streaked up in a desperate defense, but the bombers proved too fast, too numerous.
“Pelicans, move in! Neutralize survivors,” came the commanding voice of Captain Gavin over the comms.
A fleet of Pelican gunships followed, unleashing a torrent of autocannon fire and missile strikes that tore through the Covenant’s rear lines. The alien forces, once disciplined and relentless, faltered under the combined might of UNSC airpower and the Infinity’s orbital guns.
Master Chief stood at the front lines, watching as Jiralhanae war chieftains and Sangheili officers called for a retreat. Their banners fell, their cohesion shattered.
“Victory is ours,” Lieutenant Carter murmured, awe and exhaustion in his voice.
Chief gave a slight nod, but his attention remained fixed on a Sangheili figure rallying a dwindling group of warriors—a towering Zealot in ornate green-and-gold armor.
Chief stepped forward, his energy sword igniting with a hiss.
“Chief, what are you doing?” Carter called after him.
“Ending this,” Chief replied.
The Zealot, 'Vareem, turned to face him, his blade coming to life. The battlefield around them seemed to still as the two warriors closed the distance, their footsteps crunching over debris.
“You fight with honor,” 'Vareem growled in flawless human speech. “But this world belongs to the Covenant.”
Chief leveled his blade at him. “Not today.”
Their duel began with a clash of swords that sent sparks flying. Chief’s enhanced reflexes matched the Zealot’s agility as they exchanged blows, their movements blurs of precision and power. 'Vareem feinted left and slashed at Chief’s flank, but Chief anticipated the move, parrying with a twist of his wrist and countering with a strike that scorched the Sangheili’s armor.
The fight wore on, the two warriors circling each other amid the wreckage. Finally, Chief disarmed 'Vareem with a decisive upward strike, his blade poised at the Zealot’s throat.
The Zealot dropped to one knee, his mandibles flaring in defiance. “Do it, Spartan. Prove your strength.”
Chief hesitated. He saw no hatred in the Sangheili’s eyes, only a fierce, misguided loyalty. Lowering his blade, he stepped back.
“Go,” Chief said. “Your war ends here, but not your life.”
'Vareem stared at him, then nodded solemnly. “You are stronger than I imagined.” He rose and disappeared into the chaos, leading his surviving warriors into retreat.
As the battlefield quieted, Chief returned to the fort, his armor scorched and dented but his resolve intact. The Marines cheered as he entered, hailing him as a hero.
“Master Chief! Master Chief!”
He waved them off, his thoughts elsewhere. He found himself alone on a ridge overlooking the battlefield, gazing at the wreckage and the bodies—human and alien alike.
Lieutenant Carter approached, his helmet under one arm. “We did it. The Covenant won’t recover from this.”
Chief shook his head. “They’ll regroup. This isn’t over.”
Carter frowned. “You should take the win, Chief. We couldn’t have held without you.”
Chief didn’t reply, his eyes fixed on the horizon. He was haunted by the losses—names and faces of the dead flashing through his mind. He clenched his fists.
“The war is far from over,” he said finally. “We have to prepare for what comes next.”
As the UNSC began its cleanup, Captain Gavin arrived in person, offering commendations to the troops. Chief, however, refused to stand for the ceremony, choosing instead to help organize the wounded and the salvaging of supplies.
That night, in the quiet of his quarters, Chief replayed the battle in his mind, every choice, every life lost. Redemption felt elusive, even in victory.
Chief’s helmet rests on a makeshift shelf, its visor cracked, a testament to the Spartan who bore the weight of victory at a cost.

how would you rewrite season 2 and onwards of the oc?
hey, thanks so much for this ask! I've gotten a few asks before about what I'd do to change S3, but not S2! It's a fascinating question!
For starters, I think I'd go back and change two intertwined plot developments in late S1 that set up some of the weaker plotlines of S2: Marissa being forced to live with Julie and Caleb flipping Sandy and Jimmy's restaurant. Marissa being blackmailed to live with Julie always infuriates me as a plotline because it totally strips the character of any agency and also it makes no sense legally - children of divorced parents have legal rights over which parent they get to live with, and the whole thing is just transparently a ploy by the writers' to force Marissa into a miserable situation. There are other ways to keep Marissa and Julie in conflict without literally entrapping her - money could still be an issue between them, as well as how much time Marissa chooses to spend with Julie (and Caleb) and Marissa's various relationship dramas, etc.
Also, Jimmy running the Lighthouse as a successful Newport restaurant would actually give the character something to do! He wouldn't be *rich* rich, but he'd have some income and a purpose and it would be an organic way to keep him on the show and have him actually be a parent to Marissa. And you could have all these adult-related plot hijinks around the restaurant...I always thought Tate Donovan and Melinda Clarke had *great* chemistry, so I want to keep Jimmy around so he and Julie can eventually figure things out again...when Caleb inevitably dumps Julie they can be poor together. Maybe the Lighthouse fails in S3 and they all go live in the trailer park together.
I would not make Lindsay Caleb's love child and instead just have her be this normal nerd girl whom Ryan dates. I would also have Marissa and Seth spend more time together before Seth starts hooking up with Alex, and show them actually being friends. As for the Alex/Marissa storyline, I think the build-up is pretty good, but I would have them date for a few more episodes before breaking up, so it wouldn't feel so rushed. And I would make the break-up less about Ryan and more about the fact that Marissa still wants to be a part of Newport society when Alex doesn't.
I think I would still bring Trey back but I might not do the sexual assault plotline, or if I did, I would handle it *much* differently. And I think I would keep Kirsten struggling with alcoholism but would cut the whole Sandy/Rebecca storyline, because that whole drama felt very forced and pointless to me. But I like the idea of Sandy operating his own practice.
Having read the book, I think Schwartz and Savage were right that killing off Caleb left a hole in the show, because he was a great "hinge" character that fit into so many different storylines and contexts...I think I'd find another way to break him up with Julie and try to keep the character around. Although at the same time, if handled correctly (which the show doesn't really), his death does make for a substantive plot development that leaves all the characters reeling. And there are only so many times you can say "Caleb is secretly poor" because the consequences of his financial mismanagement actually catch up to him...so either you kill the character or actually see him lose all his money, but I think the fun part about Caleb is that he's dramatic and rich. Maybe he moves away to expand the business and is bumped down to a guest star for S3.
I imagine all these changes would ripple through S3 but I basically pretend the season doesn't exist so I can't really map it out specifically...obviously I'd dispense with Newport High and Johnny and all that nightmarish contrived drama.

wait, is that KITTY WILDE? they kinda look a lot like SYDNEY SWEENEY, don’t they? i heard the TWENTY-ONE year old is known as the SOCIALITE around mckinley. it seems like they auditioned to be in THE TROUBLEONES which is so lame? people at campus have said they’re BEAUTIFUL, but don’t be fooled since they’re also CRUEL. rumor has it, you can find them at CHEERIOS AND CELIBACY CLUB when they aren’t belting show tunes. their entire vibe revolves around AN IMMACULATE SOCIAL MEDIA FEED, ICE-COLD EYES THAT CAN FIND AND EXPLOIT YOUR WEAKNESSES WITHIN SECONDS, THE PERFECT CHERRY RED LIP GLOSS but no one pays attention to that here in ohio.
HEADCANONS
All of Kitty’s life has revolved around being perfect. Her father was an extremely successful entrepreneur, and her mother was your typical trophy wife, so Kitty was expected to be the immaculate trophy daughter. She largely took it in her stride, and her mixture of familial wealth, inherited ruthlessness, and the most devastatingly beautiful face her small town had ever seen was the perfect concoction to be mutually adored and feared throughout her adolescence.
(Sexual assault TW) When Kitty was eleven years old, she was assaulted at a sleepover by her friend’s older brother. Being generally maladapted to deal with her own emotions, as well as wrestling with a lifetime of religious shame, Kitty never breathed a word of it to anyone, choosing instead to pretend that it hadn’t happened and enacting her indirect revenge on her abuser’s sister. She tells herself that it’s fine and that she’s moved on, but the truth is that she’s never been further than a chaste makeout session, and it’s not because of the cross she wears around her neck as armour.
Despite this, Kitty has a reputation, and not one that most people would be happy with. It doesn’t bother her though, and she’s never found herself in a situation feeling pressured to engage in any activities she wasn’t enthusiastic about- not that any guy who valued his face remaining intact would ever try to pressure her. She’s never attempted actual dating; her romantic involvements have been sporadic and commitment-free, despite some genuinely trying otherwise. Any desire for a relationship is spurred on by her image than any genuine feelings.
The need to be perfect still permeates Kitty’s entire existence- at least, that is, the need to appear perfect. She wakes up at 5 am every morning to complete her 18-step skincare, haircare, and makeup routine as well as squeeze in an hour at the gym before class. Her flawless GPA has never wavered for a moment, despite a manicured Instagram feed that shows her at every party within a 20 mile radius of Lima, occasionally also taking private flights to LA and New York for more exclusive events. Kitty’s life is the stuff of legends, but you’d be hard-pressed to hear her describe herself as ‘happy’.

Alpha bf????? What are people even talking these days?
Jikook are real people, please anons stop such weird narratives. Cringe.
My favorite Alpha Boyfriends post because you gave me the excuse!
Charles Cornick - Alpha & Omega by Patricia Briggs
"Anna gave Charles a shy kiss on the cheek and strolled out of the room without a backward glance. Until she reached the doorway, and then, in full view of the curious who'd had the courage or discourtesy to linger in the auditorium after he'd dismissed them, she kissed her palm and blew it to him.
And despite... or because of their audience, he caught it in one hand, and pulled the hand to his heart. Her smile dropped away, and the expression in her eyes would feed him for a week. And the expressions on the faces of the wolves who knew Charles, or knew his reputation, would make him laugh as soon as no one was watching."
Adam Hauptman - Mercy Thompson series by Patricia Briggs
"It's only fair to warn you that you sealed your fate tonight. When you knew you were in trouble, you came to me. That makes twice, Mercy, and twice is almost as good as a declaration. You are mine now.... Ben says you might run. If you do, I will find you and bring you back. Every time you run, Mercy. I won't force you, but. .. No more excuses, Mercy. You are mine, and I am keeping you."
Clayton Danvers - Bitten by Kelley Armstrong
What’s this?” Nick said. “Bedtime?”
No one answered him. I kept my eyes closed.
“You look positively content, Clayton,” Nick continued, thumping down on the floor. “That wouldn’t have anything to do with the fact that Elena is cuddled up with you, would it?”
“It’s cold in here,” I murmured.
“Doesn’t feel cold.”
“It’s cold,” Clay growled.
“I could start a fire.”
“I could start one, too,” Clay said. “With your clothes. Before you get them off.
Ox and Joe - Wolfsong by TJ Klune
"It’s not destiny, Ox. You’re not bound by this. Not yet. There’s a choice. There is always a choice. My wolf chose you. I chose you. And if you don’t choose me, then that’s your choice and I will walk out of here knowing you got to choose your own path. But I swear to god, if you choose me, I will make sure that you know the weight of your worth every day for the rest of our lives because that’s what this is. I am going to be a fucking Alpha one day, and there is no one I’d rather have by my side than you. It’s you, Ox. For me, it’s always been you.”
Trent Kalamack - The Hollows series by Kim Harrison
"The want for that kiss had shocked him more than the interruption, and he fell back into the chair, cool and nonchalant as Quen came in with his questions and demands. He wasn't sure if he believed he'd really helped, but one thing was very clear. He wanted that again, that feeling of standing with her against all odds and succeeding. He wanted it so bad, he was going to risk destroying everything he and his father had worked for. He should walk away. Right now. But as she was ushered out the door under David's arm, all he wanted to do was follow her. What the hell was he doing, falling in love with her"
Andrew Minyard - All For The Game by Nora Sakavic
"Andrew had nearly killed four men for assaulting Nicky and would have broken Allison's neck for hitting Aaron, but when it came to crimes against his own person Andrew couldn't care less. He held his life in less regard than he did anything else. Neil hated that with a ferocity that was nauseating."
Scarlet & Wolf - Lunar Chronicles by Marissa Meyer
"Wolf, are you asking me to be ... your alpha female?"
He hesitated.
Scarlet couldn't help it - she burst into laughter. "Oh - I'm sorry. That was mean. I know I shouldn't tease you about this."
Still grinning, she made to retract her hand, but he was suddenly gripping it, refusing to relinquish the touch. "You just look so scared, like I'm going to disappear any minute. We're stuck on a spaceship, Wolf. I'm not going anywhere."
His lips twitched, his nervousness beginning to ease away, though his hand stayed tense over hers.
"Alpha female," he murmured. "I sort of like that."
Beaming, Scarlet gave a mild shrug. "It could grow on me."
Percy Jackson - PJO series by Rick Riordan
"Very slowly, using only two fingers, Annabeth drew her dagger. Instead of dropping it, she tossed it as far as she could into the water.
Octavian made a squeaking sound. “What was that for? I didn’t say toss it! That could’ve been evidence. Or spoils of war!”
Annabeth tried for a dumb-blonde smile, like: Oh, silly me. Nobody who knew her would have been fooled. But Octavian seemed to buy it. He huffed in exasperation.
“You other two…” He pointed his blade at Hazel and Piper. “Put your weapons on the dock. No funny bus—”
All around the Romans, Charleston Harbor erupted like a Las Vegas fountain putting on a show. When the wall of seawater subsided, the three Romans were in the bay, spluttering and frantically trying to stay afloat in their armor. Percy stood on the dock, holding Annabeth’s dagger.
“You dropped this,” he said, totally poker-faced"
It can be fun when it's fictional 😍🥰 Jimin and Jungkook aren't actually fictional though. They DID stare in 2 fictional stories though. HYYH BU and 7 fates: Chakho. And yes, all these recs above (except the last 2) have some toxic energy to them. Lol
#alpha book boyfriend energy#half this list is actual werewolves books#the other half is just that alpha protective energy we all love so much

Here is the second (or first) whatever you see first. Here’s some background: Allura Enigma is a co worker of Mr Electricidad (who have a crush on each other) so imma make his first name George like George Lopez cause it’s never mentioned LMAO She’s Max’s favorite teacher and her alter ego is Atomina on Planet Drool. This was kinda based off the concept of Marissa and her ice necklace which gives her powers irl so 🤷🏻♀️
anyways please appreciate my second offering to make up for your call out post. Hope you enjoy it cause it took me a bit to think about. 🫴🫴🏻🫴🏻
---
The skies over Earth darkened as a sinister presence descended from the heavens. It was Mr. Electric, the menacing villain from Planet Drool, sent to confront Max and the other students. With crackling bolts of electricity surrounding him, he advanced menacingly.
Max knew they needed all the help they could get. He reached into his pocket and pulled out the Mystical Locket, an object of unknown origin he had discovered on his previous adventure in Planet Drool, it belonged to Atomina. Ms. Allura Enigma, his favorite teacher who had also been to Planet Drool in his dreams, recognized the locket immediately.
"Ms. Enigma," Max said urgently, "this locket has the power to change size in Planet Drool. Maybe it can help us here too. I think it belongs to you."
Ms. Enigma took the locket, her eyes filled with wonder and determination. She clutched it tightly, recalling her own dreams of Planet Drool as Atomina. "Thank you, Max. I'll do my best."
As the battle raged on, the giant robot Mr. Electric, powered by the villain's malevolence, loomed over the students. It unleashed devastating electrical attacks that threatened to harm everyone.
Ms. Enigma stepped forward, summoning her newfound size-shifting abilities. She created a colossal force field to protect her students from the menacing onslaught. The electric bolts crackled against her midnight blue energy barrier, but she held it firm.
"Everyone, stay behind me!" she shouted, her voice resolute as she shielded her students.
Max watched Ms. Enigma in awe, amazed by her newfound powers and her determination to protect them.
However, just as she was about to lower the force field, Mr. Electric, cunning as ever, redirected his electrical assault, focusing it on Ms. Enigma's barrier until it reached its limit, shattering it. With a sinister grin, he released an overwhelming surge of electricity.
The force of the shock fried Ms. Enigma's outfit, leaving her vulnerable. In an instant, she shrank down to a mere three inches tall, standing defenseless in front of the menacing villain. Her heart pounded, and terror washed over her as she realized the dire situation.
"Help!" she cried out, her voice trembling with fear.
In that perilous moment, Mr. Electricidad, Max's teacher and Allura’s friend, sprang into action. Without hesitation, he scooped up the tiny, trembling Allura, holding her carefully in his palm.
Ms. Enigma's body trembled tremendously as she clung to Mr. Electricidad's thumb. Her fear was palpable, and her eyes were wide with panic. The once-confident teacher was now reduced to a mere fraction of her size, feeling utterly helpless.
Mr. Electricidad, filled with concern, carefully cradled her to his chest, creating a secure haven for her against the chaos outside. He could feel her trembling form pressed against him, and he understood the depth of her fear.
"It's going to be alright, Allura," he reassured her, his voice soothing and gentle. He cradled her close, his heartbeat a comforting rhythm against her miniature form. "You're safe now. I won't let anything happen to you."
Ms. Enigma, though still shaking, found solace in the warmth of his chest. She reached out, her tiny hand grasping one of his fingers, seeking reassurance in his touch. Mr. Electricidad allowed her to hold onto his finger, understanding that this simple gesture provided her with a sense of security amidst the chaos. “Th….thanks George.”
As they remained huddled together in the safety of the classroom, the battle outside continued, but within the confines of their bond, Ms. Enigma's trembling gradually subsided as they watched Marissa destroy him with her ice powers.
ENJOY
so incredible LOL

Dear Theodosia REPRISE is Jacob to Ella
I'm so pissed that the only one in here is the Sara what's her face, one. I want the original, not the pop shit from an artist my sexual assaulter ex liked.
youtube
this is not Canon btw. Just a fun think bc u asked :)
Jacob walked out of the room his wife was in, his new born in hand as he watched his eldest daughter play with prince alistar.
"Marissa, would you be so kind as to escort Alisyar to his room?" Jacob asked, earning a nod from the tutor who gently took the prince's hand.
Dear Theodosia How to say to you? Sometime last night Your mother breathed your name And like a flame That flickers out too soon She died She's gone
"Ella, darling..... um...." Jacob tried as he held in his tears.
"Where's mama?" Ella asked as she preened her neck to attempt to look at the room she lqst saw her mother in.
"She's... uh... Ella.... I'm afraid she's passed away," Jacob stated before handing off his youngest to the nurse so she could set her down gently.
"What do you mean? Is she coming back?" the young princess asked.
"No... she's... she's.... gone......" He stated before breaking down in tears.
Ella ran up to her father, hugging his arm.
She dedicated every day to you She changed my life She made my life worthwhile
"She loved you so much, babygirl. She dedicated everything to you and you were her everything.... and she made living worthwhile for me," Jacob spoke as he gained a small amount of composure.
............
And when you smile I know a part of her lives on I know I can go on
Years later, Jacob watched his 17 year old daughter as she smiled at her sister.
All he thought about was how she had her mother's smile.....
Jacob took a deep breath.
............
You have come of age with our young nation We bleed and fight for you Sometimes it seems that's all we do
Jacob watched his daughter as she spent time with her new family.
He had gotten older... much older.....
But he knew his daughters were safe.... and ella had transformed into such a wonderful queen.
............
And you and I will build a strong foundation And I'll be here for you The way is clear for you To blow us all away Some day, some day Yeah you'll blow us all away Some day, some day
A young ella cuddled into her father as he broke down into tears again.
He picked her up and sat her on his lap as the two hugged for what seemed like hours.

I have some hot takes about S3 like the original casting for Johnny was SO different, I think Ryan D. must have known someone in Fox, because originally I think a viable love interest (Brett) for Marissa was planned. I think Mischa was fantastic on the show though and her best arc was with LMG in S2 IMO. I feel so bad for all of the negativity she ensured during her time on the show. Thanks for all of your great work. I hate how misunderstood Marissa still is to this day even. (4/4)
I am so sorry for answering this so late, know that I felt guilty the whole time this was sitting in my inbox lol
I agree with everything!! it would've been way better to have a viable love interest for marissa in s3. If I remember well @ryanandmarissa posted the original script and it said a young Brad pitt-type of guy. and their first meeting was sth like he's reading a book outside and smiles at marissa? I can't imagine why they'd change this to johnny who has the charisma of a damp towel.
And yes Mischa was definitely at her best at the end of s2!! it's such a hard storyline to play but her performance felt very real. she goes from confusion, to anger and sadness. I rewatched the scene where trey goes to her room after the assault and she's amazing in it. even though marissa's sort of lashing out at him you can also see she's jumpy and scared. and the way she says "me? what about ryan?" it really brings out marissa's bravery and kindness. and ofc there's the shooting scene, you can definitely feel her helplessness.
she truly is the best girl <3

High School Days - Set Up For Failure
Day 3 of @whumptober
CW: Mentions of murder and assault
Marissa Hudges was the unluckiest girl alive. First, Fiona Sheppard arrived back in school to try and take her place, she tried ruining her relationships with the people she loves and now, Marissa and Mallory are descending down a dark rabbit hole that involved their school. She thought doing a little sleuthing, playing the Mystery Gang for a bit with her, would take their minds off of Fiona and her escapades.
Oh, how wrong she was.
The two girls found out about what happened at the school in the 90s, how multiple people either disappeared or died because they were popular. One girl was accused of murder and sent to trial, but she was declared innocent. The newspapers kept her identity hidden so they couldn't find out who she was.
Marissa thought things could not get any worse, but alas, they did.
Fiona started being cagey with her, silently staring at her like she was a piece of gum on her shoe. She knew what she was doing. She plans to ruin her. Well, she tried her little tricks and none of them worked. She's still standing, stronger than ever.
But there was one thing she was afraid she would do. She would try and report her to the cops for her murdering Sharpie's cousin, Colin.
Colin Perry. That sleazeball who tried to touch her when he first came to her house. Luckily, she knew self defense and managed to fight him before he could get his hands on her. But he was stronger, bigger than her and he managed to pin her down, saying that he will keep quiet about the photos she took of Fiona if she listens to him. Before he could do anything more, she grabbed her gun and shot him between the eyes.
It was self-defense, she told herself. It was self-defense. Zack told her that. Mallory told her that. That's all it was.
But her fingerprints were on the gun. The police would know and they would arrest her. It was inevitable.
And soon, that day finally came.
Marissa had found something. She had made the connection between the girl that stood trial and Fiona. She was going to tell Mallory. But before she could pull her phone out, two police officers approached her and put her hands behind her back.
"W-What are you doing?!" Marissa asked.
"Marissa Hudges, you are under arrest for the murder of Colin Perry."
Her eyes widened. "I-It was self-defense! He was gonna-"
"You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say can and will be used against you in a court of law." The officer's voice faded as she caught sight of a familiar girl, leaning against her locker, smirking.
As the cops dragged her down the hallway, she waved at her, looking at her in a way that said "I warned you, sweetheart."

How would you rework season 3 (including the fallout from Trey’s shootintg)?
Hmm, I think early to mid s3 has a decent enough framework in general, at least core four wise, it's just that the execution sucks and gets us nowhere. If Johnny really is supposed to be this romantic threat they try to make him out to be, fucking go somewhere with it. Obviously I'm very very glad this didn't happen, but I think a lot could've been done with RM if there was legitimate romantic potential with Johnny because Ryan won't talk to her about Trey. I feel in my bones that they were supposed to really have it out midseason and then something shifted.
I guess what I'd really do is have Trey die in 301. I think a lot of people agree that the show and RM's classic miscommunication could've been stretched out longer if Trey died and RM absolutely would not withstand that kind of tension between them. Marissa would be cleared of all charges, and so would Ryan, but the tension and sadness would be too thick. I think they'd try to stay together because they love each other and maybe they even start sleeping together but I think eventually both would find it too hard. And more because they think that's what the other wants. Marissa would be devastated she took away Ryan's remaining blood relative and Ryan would be extremely confused as to why he couldn't just get over the loss because he knew Trey was a dirtbag and literally assaulted his girlfriend. Not to mention that Trey was in the process of killing him too. But feelings are more complicated than that.
I think they'd agree to go their separate ways but of course they run into one another and SS are always around too. I think Marissa would get into a more serious depression that makes Julie bring her to therapy and a psychiatrist. Ryan would rejoin the soccer team as a distraction, and to also bump up his extracurriculars. I think there's a one night stand that turns into them trying to be friends and lightly talking about all that's happened to them. Ryan is proud of her for seeking help and Marissa is charmed that he's playing sports again. Marissa cautiously tells him that her therapist has been helping her process her trauma but also her relief that Trey isn't out there waiting to attack her again. That she has to weigh the terrible feelings involved in all of it. He slowly tells her his terrible feelings too. They're back together by prom. In the wider scheme of things, I think this would take them years to get through, so perhaps all is not totally settled.
Having Kirsten do nothing all year but arrange flowers grinds my gears so I'm gonna say she returns to the Newport Group as CEO and works on really making it a company that she's proud of. I think her sobriety would be tested a few times as she girlbosses her way through boardrooms and drama but it also makes her reach out to Dawn and have an open dialogue about what Ryan's seen and been through. Obviously she and Marissa later connect too. I'd have Ryan still interning at the Newport Group but instead of Matt that no one cares about I'd have him learn from and bond with Kirsten.
I'd have Sandy return to the Public Defender's office and get back to what he knows and loves. He started his own firm in s2 and had all of four clients, two of which ended up dead. So yeah, I'd have him be our noble patriarch again.
I'd have Seth doing something that matters. Not sure what. I don't think the show ever figured that out either. In my head Seth and Marissa always find out that they're platonic soul mates and become very good friends.

Flashbacks TW ⚠️
I have daily flashbacks about the abuse. It doesn’t even have to be triggered by something or someone. I could be walking in beautiful weather with a cold drink and have a flashback that feels like it lasts a lifetime.
So far today I have had 4 flashbacks. The first was about the first time he used an object to hit me. I had burned his eggs that morning when I was cooking and he screamed at me for being irresponsible and wasting food. He was cleaning the kitchen when he got in my face and spit on me and hit me with the towel in his hand. My eye started to grow a welt on it. I still had class I had to go to. I was really worried people were gonna judge me. I was embarrassed.
The second flashback was the first night he raped me. I had been assaulted by his friend at a party we had. He told me it turned him on that I had been assaulted. He told me it made me a dirty slut I had been assaulted. He forced himself inside me while I screamed for help. He slapped me in the face and said if I yelled again he would shot me in the face. He had guns so I felt like he was serious. I sobbed as he violated me over and over again. He didn’t use and lube he just shoved his penis so hard into me I bled. I begged him to stop. I can still feel how dirty I felt. Sometimes I have these flashbacks in the shower and I have to wash my body two or three times.
The third and fourth flashbacks are the same. The first time I felt like he was going to kill me. I had been messaging sean for a while. HE would check my phone every night while i slept and would steal my phone if i was on it for more than 3 minutes. He said texting paragraphs are for betas and whores. He had gone through my phone to find a sexual conversation between me and sean. He threw me to the ground and climbed on top of me and shoved my head into the ground. He did this multiple times till i passed out. Idk how long I was out for I came too and I was still on the floor and the lights were off and I could hear him playing video games. I got up and went out to the living room and he just acted as if nothing had happened. Asked if I could make him dinner.
These flashbacks ruin my mood sometimes. I remind myself that I am no longer with this person and that I am safe away from him. The flashbacks are so real and so vivid. They make me nauseous sometimes. I have thrown up because of these flashbacks. I feel embarrassed that they effect me to much.
The struggle continues
Marissa
