and you notice how glinda literally doesn't touch her before ozdust. like everyone moves away from elphaba as though she has this aura around her that physically pushes people away, and glinda is no exception. glinda never once puts her hands on elphaba until ozdust, and we can be so sure she is one of the only people ever to do so, to reach out and dare to caress her.

you noticed how Glinda doesn't really let go of Elphaba basically from the Ozdust scene on and she's basically always holding Elphaba's hand or hanging onto her arm, even when its physically awkward to be doing so. and even during Defying Gravity after its clear that Glinda isn't going with Elphaba, they're still holding hands right up until the point where Glinda is grabbed by a guard and forcible pulled away from Elphaba

cynthia! it was cynthia's idea!

because this is such an established, unfortunate trope--taking POC in fiction and subtly erasing them through fantasy shenanigans (see disney turning so many of their characters of colour into animals for the whole movie, etc etc)--jon and cynthia worked together on elphaba's costuming and design to unshakably cement her as a WOC. cynthia has said in interviews that the microbraids were an intentional choice so as not to erase who she (and who elphaba) is beneath the green.

cynthia is responsible for that! and jon for giving her the space to do so!!! it rocks!!!
