Stella got affairs settled pretty quick after moving into the new palace, got servants on the payroll quick, but I still like to shimmy in that for a few days there while waiting for the cook to come in, she handled the food situation with Via. Almost 'divorced dad' cooking, but with ice cream, snow cones, yummy frozen pears.. and rats.

Octavia got to pick takeout from wherever she wanted as well, Stella just footed the bill.

Since you’ve brought it up, I’m interested! How do you think teachers can teach Huckleberry Finn the most effectively?

mmm i’m gonna use the way my girlfriend’s teacher taught her class in high school as an example, because it seems pretty ideal to me personally. and so i can get a little more specific as well?

her teacher prepped all of her students by reading and analyzing poems, short stories, etc. written by black authors, that discusses the use of the n-slur throughout history, how it personally felt for them to be on the receiving end of it in their own lives. she contacted her students one-on-one (so that they could retain anonymity among classmates) and asked them whether they preferred the book to be read aloud in the class or at home, on their own. she made her black students’ feelings of safety and comfort in the classroom her main priority before tackling the novel.

the book is IMPORTANT and has so much to say but i feel you only get to hear so much of it if your teacher just has you skimming through without any other resources to guide the process. the perspective twain offers on the average white boy from the south/midwest in the early 19th century is absolutely valuable in understanding the basic principles of standard white americans back then. having said this, this perspective shouldn’t trump actual black voices, so i think if teachers are going to have their students read huck finn, they should implement another novel/a series of short stories that offer that perspective. i genuinely think that doing both is the best way to ensure a good learning experience with huck finn.
