I'm so in love with Bdubs' cyberpunk city buildings. I'm just such a sucker for shabby-realism sort of building/deco style and the buildings he's making this season are unmatched in how REAL they feel. His first rundown looking apartment building looks just like my shitty old apartment (never rent above a restaurant you will always smell of cooking and the cockroaches are on another level) and I love it? It speaks to me idk.

Mumbo's oddly enough also real close to this in feel as well. He's not building in the same style of course but there is a lived in realism feel to his little cluttered mountain town.

It's HCBBS and the world is actually ending. Impulse and Iskall are the only ones who survived. Will they get to the next season, or are they stuck on the empty server forever.

A thin idea but there's some to work with. Maybe the guys who went on vacation also survived and the people that made the cult are actually dead or smth.

Another HCBBS idea is that during the switch, the hermits do a sort of personality swap. I think Cub and Scar would be funny in this situation, but there are tons to go off here with Grian and Zed, Tango and False, ect.

Got into Hermitcraft when I developed a Special Interest in Grian halfway thru season 8 and binged his whole Hermitcraft series. During the HCBBS in season 7 I watched the one or two videos of Zedaph working in Grian's base. Now several years later I am working my way through Zedaph's whole Hermitcraft series (much slower because not a Special Interest) and I have just reached the HCBBS from Zedaph's perspective and am viewing it as a Zedaph fan instead of a Grian fan. It's like a weird warped nostalgia, seeing it from the opposite point of view and remembering back to that time when I was watching Grian's. Just interesting.

Side note: Zedaph is so unbelievably underrated. Why does this guy only have 300k subscribers. This is criminal.

I believe that Mumbo has mentioned that HCBBS was canonically caused by aliens. Therefore, I must raise the question: where else did we see extraterrestrials in Season 7? I can only think of the Renperor, I’m not sure if there’s more.

Could there be a reason Ren was drawn to the unveiling of the event despite not having put his name in? But why would the Renperor even go through the trouble of setting all that up? And is this a random Headcannon based on absolutely nothing? I know the answer to the last question, and that’s about it.

so im watching mumbo’s season 7 for the first time and xb and mumbo are such a duo. neither actually trusts what the other is saying but fully goes along with it. theyre both as stuttery as the other and yet both exude more than enough confidence. they’ve each lied through their teeth to the other and they both know it. watching season 7 was a mistake because they have not interacted since and now i will miss them terribly.

Mumbo accidentally lying about what they were actually going to do with beds in the nether (removing spawnable area to up his gold farms rates, NOT mine for netherite) as well as how he handled Hermit Challenges initiations back in season 7 I think perfectly sums up his ability to coordinate people lmao.

Edit: Forgot to mention, notoriously absent from meetings.

i know this isnt the meme but i would LOVE to hear your mumbo hot takes. whats the characterization thats important to you but "isnt canon" or "is only constructed from your own internal logic inscrutable to anyone else". or otherwise overlooked or underrepresented -girltws

OKAY SO. various mumbo things that are important to Me Specifically in his characterization:

if you have reduced mumbo to grian's emotional rock, you are writing mumbo wrong. mumbo CAN be the one who is acting as the emotional rock, but in the sense of. anyone who is close friends with another person can be. he's not a well-put-together, emotionally intelligent man, though. (i mean. okay IRL mumbo is probably a pretty well-put-together man from what i understand but you know what i'm trying to say.)

further point deductions if either mumbo's sole characteristic is "grian comforter" or "grian comforter about scar", a late-joining addition to my list of grievances.

also further point deductions if you write the grian/mumbo/scar trio but have put absolutely no thought whatsoever into how scar and mumbo interact.

(the above three items incidentally are often the ones that end up problems in the specific kind of watcher angst fic i find hard to read.)

mumbo is not responsible. he will, however, be appropriately flustered and concerned about irresponsible actions. this is not the same as being responsible, and his SCALE for what is or isn't irresponsible and should be worried about is wildly out-of-tune.

mumbo will also retaliate but he will be so wet and floppy about it. he gives as good as he gets he's just also pathetic about it the whole time. do you understand me.

mumbo is a guy who really, really wants his world to fall into order. this is not the same as being a stick in the mud or something - i am going to gesture at everything mumbo does in season eight, actually, as a really good example of "mumbo wants his world to be ordered but he doesn't necessarily mean for it to follow the same rules as everyone else, it's just ordered by his own internal rules". literally everything mumbo does about the potato situation and also the moon situation falls into this. another good example is the whole hobbit thing during hcbbs i think.

oftentimes, mumbo's attempts to maintain an ordered world that makes sense to him makes the world much more nonsensical, both to himself and everyone else. this then has a tendency to spiral.

also, mumbo is, in fact, smart. like, he's also a spoon, but he IS smart, and people lose that sometimes a bit, i think. (or lean too hard into 'smart redstone guy' and then make him the responsible adult for some reason.)

..........when i write mumbo he normally also comes out autistic gonna be honest here. this is at least 50% projection but is also somehow vital to characterizing him in a way i like, i think.

honestly the stuff about "mumbo wants an ordered world but is also a very chaotic person" and the autism beam are probably the most singularly "i am pretty sure these are just me" things and also i'm never good at explaining characterizations i like in plain language but something like this,

I have brainworms over the s7 HCBBS so:

When Grian kicks Zedaph out of his base, he doesn’t give the deed back, teasing Zedaph with it. Who can blame him, the flustered yet annoyed look he’s wearing is so cute! Besides, Zedaph will get it back eventually, Grian only wants a kiss in exchange

And, hey, since they've contributed so much to each other's bases, maybe they can continue to share? Grian certainly wouldn't say no to seeing Zed more often. And he still needs to get the bed launcher working again!

Grian ends up kissing Zed's temple while he laughs. He should probably thank Mumbo for this opportunity to bring them together.

personally i think the best hermitcraft season in existence was season 7, like in s7 we get:

decked out 1.0 , voice mod fo rthe first time, helsknight's debut, doc & bdubs divorce, the emergence of doc's GOAT thing, hermit challenges 1.0, turf war, various xisuma skins, xisuma + keralis matching skins, sewer cats, the bamboo lounge, the sleeping turtle, moopop diner, the button 1.0, the podzol party, HCBBS, grumbot 1.0, the mayoral campaign, the attempt of Pacifica, the upside down, the debut of Bdubs' new face, Bdubs' barber shop whose hair cuts stayed for a while!! (keralis STILL has the braids that bdubs gave him)

and maybe some of these things aren't as important for others as they are for me (im a sucker for builds with story and character), but you can't deny that season seven was a starting point for SO many things, and i can't say im surprised that so many hermits want to revisit S7 through new builds or continuing concepts, intentionally or not
