there’s not enough pothead!dean fics out there and for why? i’m literally him and i’m all of my friends stoner father and like, yeah he might not smoke but that man would fuckin love edibles. he fights monster for a living. he gets fucked by an angel. you’re telling me that him, and fucking sam, too, have stigmas about drugs? sam did acid in college, like what. you think sam having demon blood being dripped in his mouth as a baby is his canon event? no, every version of him did shrooms at stanford. he literally was addicted to demon blood bc it gave him super powers and made him see things? deans an alcoholic bc its more convenient and easier to find (in the early 2000s) but if spn was on hbo and not right-wing christian ass-licker (TW), cw, he wouldve been a massive stoner and i live by that. (also the fact that dean probably hates that he’s like his father in being an alcoholic and would smoke pot as a final act of rebellion against j*hn that he wasnt able to do while his dad was alive) adding to if we had hbospn: dean can find weed (and adjacent substances) in any state they’re in.

but that's the thing, it is! But it's also not. 3.15 Time Is On My Side is an ode to the many wild fucking things about the Winchester brothers, but some fantastic bits off the top of my head:

Dean thinks he can order Sam to do something but Sam says, no, he's doing his own thing (which, duh. where has Dean been.)

Sam is absolutely willing to become weird organ-stealing immortals to keep Dean (and, secondarily, himself) alive

Sub-point to the above thing: I'm sure he really thinks it's a "magic pill" where they'll just get enough time to be immortal and not have to actually do any gross organ stealing. But then, if they can't figure out a solution to the deal, if they do have to do the organ replacements then he thinks that they'll be 'ethical' about it -- stealing organ donations (? not that ethical, but okay), or using truly braindead coma patients (oh dear) or something. Maybe he just hasn't thought it all the way through. But this is a Sam who just *thinks* he's at the end of his rope -- if it really came down to it and Dean's life was really on the line, he'd do what was necessary. And then what?

But all that said -- Dean wants to be human and it's vitally important to his self-conception that he is, and so despite Sam being that close to the end of his rope, he respects Dean's wishes and doesn't go through with stealing the immortality juice (if they even could). Because no matter how fearful he is and how much they want to stay together and alive -- Sam's not actually a cartoon hbospn murderer and he's not a demanding lunatic, either, and so despite all the fear of what's coming -- they find a compromise and decide they'll live to fight another day. (At least another week.)

They just love each other so much, man.

HBO SPN - Sam Winchester

In HBO spn more things are unexplained????? CW always wrapping things up in a neat little bow like it’s a procedural crime drama but like. Sometimes fucked up things happen on the back roads of America and you just have to accept it. Not everything is monster you can kill. Sometimes ppl go missing and sometimes buildings appear where they shouldn’t and sometimes animals mutate and that’s just what you see when you’re driving through the midwest at 3 am

Hbospn where Sam comes out as non-binary and asks to be referred to as they/them. The struggle of coming to terms with being non-binary. Because all their life they felt like something other. Felt like a freak. A monster. All they ever wanted to be was normal. But. At the same time. There’s something in the back of their head, telling them that they just don’t fit within the hardy, blood-caked box of manhood that closes around the Winchesters like a trunk of a muscle car. They’ve read too much, absorbed too much, they know how gender works and how it’s barbed wire. Feels like barbed wire to them anyway. But, isn’t that feeling just one more thing that makes them different? Why can’t they just feel like Dean, like their Dad. Why can’t they just be a normal human man? And then they get to Stanford and they think about coming out, but it’s the early aughts, and they know if they came out, it’d just be another reason to label them as a freak. Then they find out about the demon blood and their powers and everything that comes with, and suddenly they’re confused, tangled up inside. Are they non-binary because they’re demonic? Are they genderless because they’re a monster and monsters don’t have genders? And so they put it aside and reject it and repress it until they meet the angels. These glorious beings of light and god and love and they’re genderless. Good things can be genderless too. Them and Castiel talk about it endlessly the closer they get, and each time Castiel looks at them and knows. Then they’re disillusioned of angels and once again they spiral. Often they think of Dean’s reaction. What would he say? What would he even say? It honestly isn’t until they’re living with Amelia that they get the space to think about it again. And decide that they deserve to feel free, to feel real. They’ve earned it. They’ve been free of the demon blood for a while now. They still feel this way. Feel completely removed from the concept of gender, and maybe it’s because theyre so other and maybe that’s okay. Coming out to Dean when he gets back. Dean laughing and asking them, “Do you really not remember?” And Sam, who has been to hell and back, who has faced decades of blood and muck and desperation and horror, trapped and absorbed in the steel trap of their own head, doesn’t remember, because trauma is a relentless bed fellow you never can recall in the light of morning, and then Dean lifts up his shirt, and shows them the scars from his top surgery. They never question themselves again after that.
