Pokemom Crossbreeds: Dire
//Inspired by @pokemonranch ! First one is literally just a redraw of their Axew design, lol
Dire is the name for members of the Axew line who have fathers that are members of the Hydreigon line. They get their name due to Hydreigon being dangerous, and this breed gaining more aggressive traits. The breed can be found in the wild, but they are also used as a battle breed.
Axew
Dire Axew gain darker scales and fur around their neck and head, with little magenta spots decorating their fur. They can be found in caves, looking for food and sharpening their tusks on rocks and stalagmites. While they're not blind, they are more likely to hatch with bad eyesight or gain bad eyesight as they age. Yes, they make contacts for pokemon, btw.
Fraxure
Dire Fraxure gain some traits of Zweilous but they do NOT gain two heads. They're known for having a higher temper, which can make them more dangerous. Fraxure already have scales that are as hard as armor, but with Dire Fraxure's added fluff, they get extra protection around their neck.
Hydreigon
Dire Haxorus gain the traits of Hydreigon, such as the flowery plumage, magenta scales, and of course, the floof. While Haxorus are known for being kind dragons, Dire Haxorus are moody and temperamental and are more easily ticked off. They go on rampages in caves looking for food, destroying anything in its path to find it. They are known to be harder to train, but many battles love them for their added strength.
//Every design here except Axew can be used for free if you credit me. Axew is just a redraw of Ranch's with slight tweaks, and I'd feel bad if I said you could use it for free. Unless they say otherwise, only Hydreigon and Fraxure can be used

Fanged Charmander are energetic crossbreeds that love to play, but should be kept among hardy playmates due to their tendency to roughhouse! Tusked Charmeleon will relentlessly challenge other Pokémon to tests of strength, always looking to grow stronger, and Axe Jaw Charizard are renown for their strength and resilience in battle. When Gigantamaxed, these Pokémon launch their blade-like wings of flame, slicing and incinerating their opponents.

Professor Fanalia: *adjusts Camera before speaking* “Before we can get into the story that will answer certain questions, I need to explain a thing we in the Archipelago use to organize certain Pokémon within our facility. Due a recent photo that was uploaded here… taken by my mischievous co-professor Kryspyn *Shakes her head exasperatedly*. We talked about classification on one of my Pokémon; for you see aside from listing off where they came from or whom, we take into consideration about possible genes that would affect their behaviour. So, we make a list of Classification list to break it down even further for each Island in the Archipelago. Each file is separated by Island, then condition, then Classification, which I am sure all of you have seen by the patient files that have been updated here.”
“Below you’ll see the common list we use. First off, is the –
General Classification: This is where we keep Pokémon who do not carry specific genes in their history or have an activated gene currently. So, simply common Pokémon that people see daily, and are not affected by past aggressions. This Classification can also split further down into Lighter or heavier Specimens.
“Next is the classification added from Professor Laventon’s Notes –
Alpha Classification: They are larger-than-normal Pokémon that appear in the wild, with increased combat capabilities. Wild Alpha Pokémon can be identified by their abnormal size, and power compared to their same species. but also have the capability to use moves that aren’t normally learned by that species during their growing phase. However, they have been rarer during the more recent years
“Then there are the two classifications we created; The Royal Classification and The Royal Alpha Classification."
Royal Classification: Is what the Rejuven Archipelago staff members call the Pokémon who carry a singular recessive gene in their genealogy, or have an active recessive gene; such as the Shiny Gene, Totem Gene, or the Crossbreed Gene.
Royal Alpha Classification: This is the Classification that we associate with Fanalia's Haxorus Harlow, we classified this group as the one in the billion chance; where a singular Pokémon carries two recessive genes. For example, Whether it be Alpha with a Shiny Gene, or a Gigatamax gene with a crossbreed gene; any two or more combinations are a extremely rare occurrence that has only had one or two reported sightings. Even then those weren't confirmed. It wasn't until we got Harlow did we learn it was possible for two recessive genes to activate.

@ imonlyherefortheloreo I’m so sorry I never drew the Salazzle and Haxorus crossbreed but the first Salazzle came out ugly and my motivation promptly died. And uh. It’s still dead. So I’ll just give y’all the lab records of the crossbreed process. No pictures, but there’s descriptions.
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
Crossbreed #001: Toxic Dragon
Components: Axew line + Salandit line
Standard breeding procedures were followed with a female Salazzle and a male Haxorus. All female offspring were fully evolved before being paired with a male Haxorus, and all males were paired with a female Fraxure.
All offspring were fully-trained, in order to observe any abnormalities or changes in their moveset.
Generation 1: The first resulting offspring was observed to be a standard male Salandit. Subject was paired with a female Fraxure upon maturity.
Generation 10: Offspring number 10 was a male Salandit. He noticeably preferred standing upright, a behavior only observed occasionally among most Salandits.
Generation 15: Offspring number 15 was a male Salandit. Instead of sitting in a hunched-over position and walking on all fours like most Salandit, he stood and walked upright, only laying on all fours to relax. Compared to most Salandit, he exhibited a stronger-than-average bite force, as well as elongated fangs. He was observed to have a higher Attack stat than average, and had the ability to learn some of the moves that an Axew learned naturally via leveling up.
His mask-like facial pattern had taken on more of an olive-like hue, changing into a lighter green where the mask pattern ended at his neck. His snout, fingers, toes, and tail were noticeably more stout than normal. The small appendages at the base of his “mask” were more rigid than normal.
It is notable to mention that, by now, the odds of the offspring being female had increased.
Gen 20: Offspring number 20 was a female Salandit. The appendages at the base of her neck were as rigid as plates, and were larger than average, as well as being somewhat pointed upward. They had taken on the same light-green hue as the line around number 15’s neck, which linked to an almost bandana-like pattern around her neck. Her colors were that of a perfect mix between Salandit and Axew’s. The same could be said for her stats. As well as having a longer and sharper external set of fangs, two of her fangs had grown down and outwards into sharp tusks. The tusks were laced with standard Salandit venom. She was found to be a poison and dragon type.
She showed the same standing and sitting behaviors as number 15. A new behavior, however, was that she marked her territory in her enclosure by leaving scorched scratch marks with her tusks and claws. As was customary for female Salandit, she commanded a group of male Salandit. Despite them bringing her food, she seemed to still enjoy, and almost prefer, hunting on her own.
Upon evolution, number 20 looked significantly different from the average Salazzle. She had more bulk to her, and her bandana had grown into a thick plate of body armor, attached to a chestplate of similar material, both of which were a color alike a more gray version of Fraxure’s body armor. She also seemed to have a natural helmet made of that same body armor, bearing a horn like a Fraxure’s. The traditional pattern on her belly now had not only flames, but also images of molten rocks. Said flame and rock patterns had more of a reddish tint than the usual pink, the same shade of red found on her claws and tailtip. Every other part of her body that was gray before was now a darker shade than average. Her tusks had grown longer, now with a reddish-purple tip on the ends.
Her behavior was much more fierce than the standard Salazzle. While most female Salandit or Salazzle do exhibit signs of annoyance and aggression whenever another one takes a member of her pack, the usual conclusion is to have some sort of pheromone battle to see who has the most power over the males. Number 20, however, along with some of the ones of her family line before her, seemed ready to battle for dominance, with number 20 being the first to always directly challenge the other, if a glare was not enough to make the challenger give up or flee.
Being a sort of queen of the nest, upon being paired with a Haxorus, like the other females of her lineage, she had multiple eggs.
Generation 25:
It happened.
The crossbreeding is complete.
Number 25 was very similar in appearance to those before her, both in Salandit and Salazzle form, looking like a perfect mix between Axew and Salandit, and Salazzle and Fraxure. Her behavior was similar to those before her.
And then, she evolved a second time.
She’s beautiful.
She does not just look like a mix between Salazzle and Haxorus. She looks like an evolution of her previous form, with a few Haxorus traits. Most likely due to a Salazzle’s habit of standing up straighter than Haxorus and Fraxure, her height was measured to be above that of the average Haxorus. She’s over six feet tall.
While Haxorus are known to lick up dirt to get the minerals they need for their tusks, she was observed melting rocks and then consuming the molten rock while digging out her cave. Speaking of her cave, like most Haxorus, she is downright belligerent when her right to her territory is challenged. She is noticeably nicer to her pack of male Salandit than most Salazzle are. In fact, in some cases, she is seen stepping in to defeat any opponents that were battling the Salandit that were trying to guard her. She seems to prefer to fight her own fights. She has also been seen collecting a hoard of food, which is usually the male Salandit’s job. Additionally, she often tries to share food with the Salandit serving her. Since male Salandits do not evolve due to malnutrition, male Salandits that are part of a pack serving future descendants of Number 25 will be observed very closely.

For the Berry Ask meme: Rindo!
Hello there! Thank you for asking.
Rindo. Favourite Pokemon crossbreed design/concept?
I’ve been thinking about this for a while now, because it’s such a difficult question! By far one of my favourite things about the Pokemon fandom collectively is how incredibly clever and creative so many people are, because there’s such a wealth of really neat, lovely art to enjoy as a result.
I have a lot of feelings about the concept of I guess what you’d call synthesis--the crossbreed/fusion/splice trend. In-world, I tend not to love it, or at least to approach it with a lot of limitations in place, because I feel that it really disrupts some of what I personally imagine as the like... laws of nature of Pokemon. That’s extremely a me thing, of course, but a total free-for-all in terms of what can happen becomes quickly boring to me, compared to a mysterious but ultimately somewhat knowable collection of underlying principles of life.
But out-of-world and taken just on its own artistic merits (rather than a part of the lore or whatever) it’s terrifically fun and delightful and there’s a lot of artists I’ve happily followed along with for years by this point. Based on three principles, I’ve picked out three examples I enjoy.
1. Sheer impact on concept.
This one comes with a big warning, because the art is usually evocative, grotesque, and dark, but I really enjoy extra-vertebrae’s approach to the concept--particularly from a horror perspective. Also I’m a long-time fan of Keith Thompson’s work, and they hit similar notes for me that I appreciate.
2. Personal affection of style.
I love quite literally all of Cory’s (corycatte) Pokemon art and am in general a huge fan of his personal style. It aligns so so well with how I envision the Pokemon world and I get excited every single time I see anything he creates in this space. Truly cannot recommend enough.
3. I want this to be real.
Because I’m not going to allow myself to say “everything Cory makes” twice, I’m going to link to a couple of concepts that I’ve really loved over the years and thought were particularly creative or pleasant to behold.
- arcanine x roserade - arcanine line x cubone line - umbreon x solrock (solar eclipse) - ponyta crossbreeds (aurora + charger) - gengar x meowth - haxorus crossbreeds - dragonite crossbreeds (guardian + leviathan) - yamask line crossbreeds - tropius crossbreeds
#pokemon#reply#yes i am answering a 'what's your favourite' question with like twenty different things#but as a bisexual in bi month i'm not only legally allowed to do that but also morally obligated to#also there's definitely SO many i've forgotten to list and will remember like tomorrow and be mad at myself. may update later to reflect.

Man, I want to ask about some of my favs variants...
But that's for another time, because I got curious, wouldn't trainers try to breed with other strong Dragon Pokemon? Like Garchomp and Haxorus for example.
Or would certain species make the final result more violent compared to other breeds? I mean Hydreigon is not the most friendly of Pokemon as far as I know.
And I feel that with Gyarados they would become more violent, maybe.
Yes, trainers do try to breed the more stronger and dangerous mom together. Oftentimes, if the two pokemon were already violent, the offspring would be no more violent than they are. What becomes an issue is that they'll be stronger and do more damage with their violence. So, crossbreeds between Haxorus or Garchomp should only be handled by experienced trainers.

Ah, I see. In the games, pokemon crossbreeding typically just results in an egg that has different traits and moves, but in this instance, I would imagine that any Haxorus crossbreeds would likely have a lot of physical features of the other pokemon while incorporating the tusks and general shape of a Haxorus. However, results would likely have a lot of variety, with the only constant I can imagine definitely being the tusks
