Please do that list of Atlanta restaurants you like 🍑
Bacchanalia.

This is my favorite restaurant in Atlanta by far and one of the best I’ve ever been to. They do have a Michelin Star, and they absolutely deserve it; the design and vibe of the restaurant, the service, and the quality of the food are all lovely, and I think I’m so lucky to have visited. They offer a multi-course prix fixe, and the servers offer alcoholic and non-alcoholic drink pairings to better your experience. I was lucky enough to have a server who offered detailed opinions of each item on the menu, made sure that our cocktail orders were perfect, told us to order oysters and to not stop until we were happy, and made our night by telling us to get the fruits de mer and caviar platter services. There is a strict dress code, and you are expected to look nice, but it only adds to the atmosphere of the restaurant. If I had to recommend any restaurant in Atlanta for a romantic evening out with a partner or a good time with close friends, it would definitely be Bacchanalia.
Kevin Rathbun Steak.

KRS is my favorite steakhouse in Atlanta and it’s also where I went to dinner tonight. I love a good steakhouse, but the food has to be right. I have to feel like it’s worth sitting down, enjoying a night out, and not worrying about what comes to my table. KRS has some of the best steak I’ve ever had, and their filet mignon is one of the most heavenly things I’ve ever had. From their hot and cold appetizers to their oysters, everything is amazing. I love a steakhouse that has both red meat, poultry, and seafood options and has interesting salads and soups, and Rathbun’s definitely has a good variety of food. I also really love the location and vibe of the restaurant. I think that atmosphere is one of the most important things about a restaurant, and Rathbun’s definitely feels like an upper-class establishment. If you love a high class experience or you enjoy filet mignon, go to Rathbun.
Umi.

Umi is the best sushi in Atlanta, hands down, no argument. If you love modern Japanese food and want to try something new, do Umi, not Nobu. The food is fresh, the restaurant is chic, and the venue is beautiful, and Umi feels intimate. I’d recommend Umi for dates; I think it would be a great spot to go out for a date, and it’s just exquisite. I’ve been to a number of very high-class sushi establishments, and the difference between chains like Nobu and restaurants like Umi is profound. Umi has a set menu, a drink menu, a cocktail list, and then specials from the chef. If you’re feeling adventurous and want to try a variety of new things, your best bet is going to be up by the chef, but if you want to have an intimate date and spend your time talking, order from the menu. I will say that the servers do have a tendency to bring you what you need and leave you alone; the service isn’t bad by any means, but if you want a talkative server, then this isn’t the restaurant for you. It’s intimate, you’re expected to have an idea of what you’d like, and it’s a great spot if you’d like to have a quiet date or you like quality sushi.
Hal’s.

Everyone I’ve met in Atlanta who has recommended Hal’s to us has told us to go but to know that the restaurant was better before Covid. I obviously never had the opportunity to go back during the “glory days” of Hal’s, but the restaurant was lovely when I visited. The vibe of Hal’s is incredibly Buckhead; I walked in and everything was beautiful, but part of the allure of the restaurant is definitely knowing that you’re being seen there. I think the food was amazing, but I’m also not a foodie; if something looks good and tastes even better, I’m going to like it. I do think everything was very heavy, and there was an emphasis on the fried and battered, and that wasn’t the best. I find that the best steakhouses I’ve been to have dishes that don’t leave you feeling greasy. The lighter seafood dishes I had were wonderful, but I think that the heavier steak and fried dishes are better when shared with someone.

Nutrigrain cereal, English muffin w Nuttelex and honey
Regular skcl
Went to my mums for lunch and she’s very cute - made wraps. I have an almond mum if you can’t tell. Wraps were super lovely - avocado, salads and leg ham
Munched on strawberries while we played Scrabble and chatted. Wholesome.
Got a green apple gong cha on the way home.
Did a try on of a LSKD “trust us” pack I got on a whim. Pleasantly happy as I don’t own anything like these pieces, besides the oversize tee heh guilty.
Ummmm that’s it I know it’s not enough eeep but Josh is making an awesome fried rice for dinner and he’s got steak and chicken going too but he won’t tell me whuuuuut he’s doing haha but hey I’ll devour it.
And then I guess the easiest thing to do would be to jam pack my usual smoothie with a bit more goodness to boost up my intake for the day. With a snack. And a side of snack.

LOUISIANA
2025 Apr 26 (Sat) – We ran down to Office Depot this morning to pick up the finished memory books. We then went to the post office where we mailed off 16 of the books. When we got back to campground, we gave copies to the other guys, and two to Johnny – one for them and the other to mail to SMART with the close out documents.
Then Johnny & Linda said goodbye and left for home. The rest of us took off for the international music festival in Lafayette. It was so damn hot! I bought a hat. We seemed to arrive every place where the bands were going on break. It was super crowded and we didn’t hear much music. We wound up seeking out a pizza restaurant where we could get out of the sun and sit. Joe & Diane and we spent four hours walking around the very large and spread out festival in the middle of the city. Rick & Brenda decided to stay longer.
Later, at 6:30 p.m. we gathered outside Rick & Brenda’s RV for drinks. We shared the company with one another and had libations. The weather was perfect, the sky was clear, and the sunset was nice. It was a nice end to a nice day.
2025 Apr 25 (Fri) – Everyone except Johnny & Linda, Rick & Brenda, Joe & Dianne, and us pulled out today. There were lots of dings on messaging as everyone said good bye and thank you and whatever Paul and I ran down to Office Depot to drop off the memory book for printing. I stayed up till midnight last night, finishing it off.
At 4 p.m. we went to Rick & Brenda’s rig for happy hour. They bought steaks today which they grilled on the barbecue. Diane brought baked potatoes (left over from our potluck), Linda reheated green beans (also from the potluck), and I made a tossed salad. We also brought two bottles of wine to share with everyone. The weather was perfect, the meal was delicious, and the company was great. It was a perfect night. As we finished up, it started to rain so the timing was perfect as well.
2025 Apr 24 (Thu) – What a busy week this has been! We went to Vacajun and made masks. The tradition, as we were told, is that in the old days, poor people went around the countryside begging for food. They were embarrassed so they wore masks to hide their identity. Sometimes, the owner would throw out a chicken or greased pig and the person begging would chase the animal. Today, chasing the chicken and wearing masks (usually during Mardi Gras) is part of the celebrations.
We took a swamp tour at Champagne’s. The boat held 18 passengers. A guide stood in the back of the boat operating the outboard motor and steered the boat around the area. There is a lake with a bayou and a swamp and he took us around all of them, explaining the differences. A bayou has moving water and is the result of overflow from a water body. A swamp is a result of overflow from the bayou and is stagnant water. We saw alligators, many types of birds, and learned all about the different trees growing in the area.
There was a food tour around Lafayette. The pimped out 14 passenger van took us to five different places where we sampled the local cuisine. There was pizza with 3 different toppings, boudin, crawfish, gumbo, cracklins, and king cake. Louisiana sure has its own culture!
There was a visit to an accordion workshop and Tony Chachere’s plant. We also played beanbag baseball, card bingo and trivia. The Cajuns Chapter was having a muster where we have ended the caravan in Breaux Bridge and the two groups came together. We shared meals and played games. We had our closing ceremonies tonight. Everyone on the caravan was inducted into the Cajuns chapter. Gifts and prizes were awarded and everyone had a great time.
2025 Apr 20 (Easter Sunday) – We started the day off by doing the laundry. At 2 p.m. Jeff & Linda played a gospel bluegrass selection for the group. At 3 p.m. Joe hosted a trivia for about 20 of us. At 5 p.m. we had a potluck. The theme was a potato bar. We baked potatoes and brought all kinds of toppings – butter, sour cream, chopped ham, shredded brisket, carnitas, green onions, jalapenos and three kinds of cheeses. I made potato fudge from a recipe I picked up in the Canadian Maritimes potato museum back in 2016. It was a lot of work but came out good. There were also various desserts and deviled eggs along with a salad. That was followed by a travel meeting. It will be our last move tomorrow.
2025 Apr 19 (Sat) – We drove to the Avery Island to tour the Tabasco Factory. They had seven buildings, each describing a different part of the process of growing and preparing their pepper sauce. We bought a Christmas ornament and I got a tee-shirt. After looking at the museum, we drove around the island. There was Bird City which was quite a delight. In 1895, the owner captured eight snowy egrets in an effort to save them from extinction (their feathers were in great demand for women’s hats). He built an aviary and raised the wild egrets. When mature, he opened the cage for them to migrate. The following year, six of them returned. Those six had eight hatchlings. It has continued every spring since then and the place now boasts thousands of birds. We saw platforms built over the swamp water with hundreds of birds tending chicks. There were more birds in the surrounding trees. The aviary hosts three types of egrets and even a few roseate spoonbills. It was truly a sight to behold. Also on the property is a bamboo forest. We walked through it and wondered at the variety of trees. The owner planted 35 different species. The island is so beautiful; so green and lush with grass and trees draped in feathery moss. Several gardens dot the sanctuary and many kinds of animals roam the area, including free ranging alligators.
After we got back to the campground, we napped. Then we woke and went to the community room where Joe had set up the beanbag baseball game. We played the men against the women. The men won 10 to 8. It was a fun game. Afterward, the caravan brought in Dominoes pizza for everyone.
2025 Apr 18 (Fri) – We all started the day off by going to the office for crispy crème donuts and coffee, then presenting the campground with a certificate of appreciation for all their support to the caravan. After we got the first three groups out, we packed up and fell in with our group. It was 137 miles from New Orleans to New Iberia where we are staying at the Isle of Iberia RV Resort. It is a very nice campground (as all the campgrounds on this caravan have been). They have a pool and a lazy river. There are many empty campsites, which is quite a surprise being a holiday weekend and everything.
At 4 p.m. we went for a poetry reading by Linda. She read from the poem of Evangeline. Afterward, we went to dinner with Joe & Diane and Rick & Brenda. The first place we stopped at was closed for Good Friday. The second place we tried was tiny and only had about 4 seats. We finally arrived at Pelicans on the Bayou. It was mostly seafood but I had a cheeseburger. Everyone else had catfish, shrimp, or crab – except Joe, who had frog’s legs. All southern fare.
2025 Apr 17 (Thu) – The group took a lunch cruise on the Natchez Steamboat this afternoon. First, we all descended on the French Quarter to enjoy beignets at the Café du Mond then walk around Jackson Square to admire the work of the various artisans. There weren’t many out yet.
At 11:30 a.m., the boat blew its steam whistle (after playing a very loud calliope for ten minutes for the folks standing in line) and we left the dock. The ship is able to hold 1,200 people. It seemed like we had that many as we strolled the three decks, looking for a seat. There were two seatings for lunch. We had the second one at 12:15 p.m. They served rice and red beans, jambalaya, fried catfish, fried alligator, cornbread, and bread pudding. There was a full bar onboard and many folks were taking advantage of the libations. The boat, which has a full working paddlewheel, rode down the Mississippi River to a turn in the river, turned around, rode down to just before the bridge, then returned to the dock at 1:30 p.m.
After the ride, we walked around town with Joe & Diane. He was looking for a t-shirt that says NAWLINS but couldn’t find one. We returned to the campground. Then Paul and I went out to pick up groceries. I had sticker shock. It’s been a long time since we bought a full cart of items. It was more than $350. I kept going over the receipt trying to see where the cashier made a mistake. It couldn’t cost that much!
I had picked up a roast chicken at Winn Dixie. We invited Rick & Brenda to join us and we had a delightful meal out on the picnic table. We drank the Niagara wine Joe & Diane gave us. I made mashed potatoes not only for dinner, but to have enough left over for the potato fudge I will be making for the potluck on Sunday. Joe & Diane came down later and sat with us as we chatted about everything and nothing. It was a very pleasant evening.
2025 Apr 16 (Wed) – We went to the WWII Museum today. Boy, that place sure has grown! The first time we came here it was the D-Day Museum. There are six buildings, each one dedicated to different aspect of the war. We started with an 18-minute video with Tom Hanks narrating. It was so moving, almost everyone was moved to tears. After the theater show, we all moved off in different directions to explore areas of interest. The museum has grown so large that it is hard to see the whole thing in just one day. Joe was us as we explored the US Freedom Pavilion and the Hall of Democracy. Then we joined several other members of the caravan at the American Sector cafeteria for lunch. It was good but expensive.
2025 Apr 15 (Tue) – We took a bus tour of New Orleans this morning. We rode in a 26-passenger van. I sat on the right side right next to the window. As a result, I was not able to see the things the driver pointed out on the left side of the van. Gary, the driver, was funny with his sarcasm about how things work in the city. Other than not being able to see everything, it was pretty good.
Ten of us walked back into the French Quarter when the tour was over for brunch at the Court of the Two Sisters. It was quite a large buffet with over 60 items to choose from. We sat out in the courtyard and relished in the delightful weather and wonderful company.
Later, Joe & Diane and we walked down to 73 Distilling Co. It was a hoot! The woman who gave us the tastings of rum, vodka, moonshine, bourbon and whiskey was extremely talkative. Along with a little about the liquor, she told us a whole bunch about the history of the state and its residents. After the tastings and tour, we went to the bar for drinks. It was lots of fun.
2025 Apr 14 (Mon) – Another moving day! We packed up and left Baton Rouge at 11:30 a.m. The group is staying in the French Quarter RV Resort. The campground is just a few blocks from the French Quarter in New Orleans.
Once set up, we gathered with friends and decided to walk into the French Quarter for dinner. We ate at the Acme Oyster House. The wait was 30 minutes but we found seats at the bar so we sat there and ordered. I was right up against a window that looked over the grill where they were cooking oysters. There were three men dedicated to just working with oysters – one popped the shell, one dug the meat out, and the third put them on the grill. It was quite an operation. The entire hour and a half we were there, that’s all those 3 men did. The second guy traded out every 15 minutes or so. I guess it hurts your hands to keep prying the oyster out of the shell.
2025 Apr 13 (Sun) – It was a fun day today. Bo & Karen came out to visit with the group. Twenty-eight of us formed seven 4-man teams to play a tournament of mini golf. There was much laughter and teasing as we played 18 holes. Later, prizes were given out for the highest score, the lowest score, and the three top teams. Also, an award went to one player – Terri – who dressed for the occasion by wearing a string of pearls for the game.
At 3 p.m., Jeff & Linda played music for the group. He on the guitar; she on a harpsicord (I think). That was followed by a travel meeting. Then we had a delightful meal prepared by Ed DiMaggio, a friend of Johnny’s who he knows from his days at the Talladega car races. He made a picante sauce in a stew. Ed also provided bread and homemade bread pudding. The Hitts made a tossed salad with strawberries from the strawberry festival they went to yesterday. After things calmed down, we went over to visit with Johnny & Linda for a while. Then we came back and did the laundry. It was a long day.
2025 Apr 12 (Sat) – The caravan went to the Louisiana Rural Life Museum on the LSU Campus. It seemed like it was way out in the boondocks. The drive wound a couple of miles through the woods until we arrived at the visitor center. We were greeted by a docent who divided our group in two. Our docent didn’t know as much about Louisiana history as Johnny, and he frequently jumped in to add to the docent’s story. We walked around the grounds where there were several buildings that have been moved to the site. There was a dogtrot house (named that because the dogs could run through the space between the rooms on either side), slave quarters (called pens), an overseer house, a sick house, and a kitchen – all old, wooden buildings. There were other buildings to see but we ran out of time and had to get back to the visitor center for lunch where they served dirty rice, tossed salad, a piece of bread and a cookie. I think they were reenacting the slave meal.
We returned to the campground (Joe & Diane drove). There was a social hour at 5 p.m. Brennan & Fan are also camped here and came to visit with the group (they were on our Alaska 2023 caravan). Johnny put out important information about the day tomorrow. After the meeting, we went to dinner with Rick & Brenda to Don’s Seafood. We sat at the bar, right next to the grill where I watched the oyster preparation. Three men were dedicated to opening and grilling oysters. It was amazing to watch. Lots and lots of people eat oysters. The window next to me was quite hot from the fire. When we left, Paul bought Brenda a glass that she was admiring.
2025 Apr 11 (Fri) – It was a pretty quiet day today. We stayed in to work on caravan stuff. At noon, we went out to get some groceries. Had lunch at McDonald’s. Stopped at the post office to mail off some Easter packages to the grandkids.
At 3:00 p.m. we left to visit with our sister-in-law, Frieda, who lives in Zachary. She and her daughter, Laura, were waiting for us. After an hour, we all went to dinner at the Cajun Catch. The food was very good and the company delightful. We returned to Frieda’s home and visited for an hour, then returned to the campground.
2025 Apr 10 (Thu) – The group went into the capitol today. We toured the new capitol, the governor’s mansion, and the old mansion. Huey P. Long, a former governor, was shot in the new capitol building and folks seem to deify him. There is a large conspiracy theory that he was assassinated by his own body guards to prevent him from becoming president of the United States.
After the tour, several of us went down to the cafeteria in the basement of the capitol and had lunch. We both had fried chicken. It was ok.
This evening, Hank & Brenda (who are parked next to us) came over and we visited for a while. When they went in, we went over to Joe & Diane’s rig where several folks were enjoying an assortment of alcohol. We imbibed and socialized and had a great time.
2025 Apr 9 (Wed) – We drove from Vidalia to Denham Springs, right outside of Baton Rouge. The group is staying at the Baton Rouge KOA. It is a nice campground. The caravan is spread all over the place; we are not together. When we arrived, we ran to the laundry room and washed our clothes.
2025 Apr 8 (Tue) – We drove into Ferriday this morning to tour the Delta Music Museum. It was a small place with placards describing all the musicians that came from the area. The big three – Jimmy Swaggart, Jerry Lee Lewis, and Mickey Gilley all were born in the town.
After the museum, we drove to Natchez to take the Hop-On, Hop-Off bus tour of the town. We rode on the top deck of a sightseeing bus listening to the tour guide tell the history of various places along our route. It was surprising to find that they have over 500 original homes in the city. When a general came through the area during the Civil War (she didn’t say his name but it was probably Sherman), he directed his troops to not burn the city. Natchez makes its living on tourists. It seemed like every other place had a placard out advertising a tour.
Following the tour, we walked to Slick Rick’s Café for lunch. It was a small, eclectic place. There was one four-seat table, one high table two-seater, and a counter with four seats with more seats upstairs on the second floor. They offered a wide selection of coffees and a menu with different kinds of food choices. It was good.
We had a travel meeting tonight. Nell roasted Johnny over dog walking during rainstorms. Jack was lost for a little while (he has Alzheimer’s) but we found him sitting in Johnny’s truck. Ten of us drove to Natchez after the meeting for pizza and beer. It was delicious and we all enjoyed it very much.
2025 Apr 7 (Mon) – We lined up at 8:30 a.m. and carpooled to the Frogmore Plantation. It was a cotton plantation. The gal that showed around the place was excellent. She really knew her history. We looked at slave quarters, share cropper quarters, cookhouse, washhouse, hog butchery and smoke house, and the cotton processing house. It was fascinating to see the machinery and hear her explain how it was all used. One 400-pound bale of cotton can make 1,200 tee-shirts.
When one, we drove down the road to look at a modern plant. It was just a drive through but really interesting to see how everything was computerized. Then, with Dennis & Terri following behind, we drove into town for lunch. We stopped at a building without any sign but had a bunch of cars and trucks parked outside. Turned out to be B.J. Bar-B-Q Ribs. We both had Big John’s cheeseburger. Dennis & Terri had the catfish special.
On the way back to the campground, we stopped at WalMart to pick up some groceries. At 2 p.m., I went down to the big building to help Linda cook jambalaya. There were lots of people to help so after an hour, I returned to the camper to work on the caravan budget (I am the treasurer for the caravan). We returned to the big building at 5:30 p.m. for dinner. The Mississippi Magnolias happened to be having their muster at this campground so we invited them to join us. It was a good mix.
2025 Apr 6 (Sun) – Wow! Thunderstorms rolled through all night long. Some of the lightning strikes were so loud, it sounded like a bomb going off right overhead. Luckily, everything seems to be waterproof – no leaks. Looks like Paul got them all fixed.
We pulled up stakes at 12:30 p.m. and led our group out of Poverty Point at 1 p.m. It was only 77 miles to Vidalia where we are staying at the River View RV Park. We visited with Rick & Brenda and wound up running out to the Natchez Brewing Company for dinner. It was a beer and pizza place that was closing at 6 p.m. We arrived at 5:40 p.m. when they warned us they were closing at 6 so we both got pizza. It was very good. Everyone enjoyed their beers, too.
2025 Apr 5 (Sat) – We drove an hour to Vicksburg, Mississippi, to tour the Vicksburg National Military Park battlefield. After a video in the visitor center, we all got in our cars and followed a docent around the very large park communicating by radio. The docent stopped at various points, we got out, he explained what happened at that spot, then we got back in our cars and drove some more. The most interesting stop was at the U.S.S. Cairo, an old ironside ship. It has been sunk in the Mississippi River and raised. Most of the ship had disintegrated but what they were missing, they filled in with replica pieces. It was such an interesting display. We were able to walk on board and see what the ship looked like. The tour finished at 1:30 p.m. and we all dispersed to go get something to eat. Paul and I stopped at Cracker Barrel.
We had rain on and off this afternoon. At 5 p.m., we had a travel meeting in preparation for a move tomorrow. One of the couples here had their truck break down. They put it in the shop and rented a car. One of the other folks drove their trailer from the last campground to here. They will also move their trailer from their campsite here to another campsite in this campground. They will then drive to our next stop and rent a hotel room for the night. Hopefully, their truck will be fixed and they will come back to get their trailer. Rick & Yolanda are determined not to drop out of the caravan.
2025 Apr 4 (Fri) – We carpooled to Poverty Point World Heritage Site (UNESCO), about 20 minutes down the road in Delhi. It was a very interesting tour by the park ranger. He put the group in two shuttle carts and drove slowly around the area, telling us the history and meaning of the artifacts in the park.
After the tour, we drove to Tammy’s Café for lunch. Dennis & Terri joined us. Then we drove to the Wild Country Safari Park. Half the group boarded an old school bus with the windows removed. We drove through the park, stopping frequently to feed the various animals. There were bison, matusi buffalo, deer, camels, long horns, zonkies, zebras, etc. We had cups of food to feed the animals. There were lots of squeals of delight and laughter as the animals came to the bus looking for snacks.
At 5 p.m. a group played trivia, then we left for dinner. Paul and I did our laundry. There were only two machines in the room but no one else so we could do two loads of wash and dry them without blocking anyone else from trying to do their laundry.
2025 Apr 3 (Thu) – We left Monroe at 11:40 a.m. with the last of the four groups. It was only 75 miles to the this campground in Delhi. The caravan is camped at Poverty Point Reservoir State Park Campground. It is a lovely campground with a winding roadway that loops around the area with campsites on each side of the road. Lots of trees and greenery.
At 5:30 p.m. we had a potluck. It was excellent. It felt like everyone pulled out the plugs and cooked their very best dishes. After dinner, we played card bingo.
2025 Apr 2 (Wed) – We all left early this morning at 8:30 a.m. The group carpooled to the Chennault Museum. General Chennault went to China just before WWII broke out to train the Chinese how to fly. His group was known as the Flying Tigers and they never lost a battle with the Japanese.
We left the museum and went to the Texas Roadhouse for lunch. The place is normally closed until 4 p.m. but they opened for lunch especially for us. The manager was a friend of Johnny’s.
After lunch, the group headed over to the Beidenharn Museum. It was the first place that Coca-Cola was bottled.
At 5 p.m. we had a travel meeting. That was followed by a left-overs meal where we all brought the food we have left-over from potlucks and the barbecue yesterday. It was a busy day.
2025 Apr 1 (Tue) – We went to the Bienville Lumber Mill this morning. The group was divided in three. Number 1 group rode their cars (no physical exertion). The second group did some driving and some walking around the mill. The third group was the most physical with a good hour and a half walk around all the working areas of the mill. Each group enjoyed their tour. I signed up for group 2 but when it came time to do the tour, there was no car for me to ride in (Paul had taken the truck for his tour with group 3. So I walked back in and got put in group 1. That was disappointing as I felt I lost the opportunity to see the working parts of the mill.
After the tour, we went to Luigi’s in Monroe for lunch. About 12 of us were there. We went back to the campground for a little while. At 3:30 p.m. we all carpooled to the Big House. It was a beautiful home that used to belong to the grandfather of Johnny’s friend, Trott Hunt. Trott owns the sawmill we toured this morning. He and his wife were gracious, down-to-earth folks who visited with us when we had barbecue catered in the carriage house. There was so much food left over, we took it back for left-overs tomorrow.
2025 March 31 (Mon) – We all drove to Gibsland to tour the Bonnie & Clyde Ambush Museum. It was filled with memorabilia all about the hunt and killing of the criminals. I am a little distressed about how these killers were glorified in their day and that this guy is making money off the story. But I guess it was a different time back in the 1920s. Over 50,000 people attended Bonnie’s funeral and thousands tried to get souvenirs from the couple’s bodies when they were brought in.
After touring the facility and all its macabre renderings, we had lunch in a little café. The last meal Bonnie & Clyde had there before driving off to be ambushed 7 miles down the road was a fried bologna sandwich and a BLT. Paul and I both had the bologna sandwich. After eating, we drove to the ambush site where the couple were actually shot. When we were here ten years ago, the monument was on a small one-lane dirt road. Today, it’s on a two-lane paved highway. It kind of takes away the sense of isolation of where they were shot.
Next, we stopped at a vet’s office to get Sheba’s medicine refilled. The vet wanted to see the cat (of course). So, we drove back to the campground, got Sheba, and went back to the vet’s office. They examined her, listened to her story, and refilled her medication.
Then we stopped at the grocery store on the way back to pick up a few things for tonight’s potluck dinner. I made corn casserole. I doubled the recipe and it caused the pan to cook longer than the recipe called for. Joe had the group playing RIGHT-CENTER-LEFT when we got back. I stayed here to cook and Paul went over to play. Eleven people showed up to play.
After the potluck, we showed the movie, Why Louisiana Ain’t Mississippi or Any Other Place.
2025 March 30 (Sun) – It was a free day today. Joe & Paul held a beanbag baseball game this afternoon. About 11 people played and more watched. I stayed here doing budgets and write-ups. At 3 p.m., we went up to the building where Johnny was making gumbo for the group. A bluegrass music band came and entertained the group. There were six men in the group, all playing a stringed instrument. They played for half an hour and we all loved it! They ended with Lee Greenwood’s song – I Love the USA.
After dinner, we played a video about the life and death of Bonnie & Clyde.
2025 March 29 (Sat) – At 5:30 this morning, we were awakened by a big bang on the roof. It had been raining all night so we figured a branch fell off the tree overhead and fell on the rig. We got up, inspected the inside, didn’t find any damage or leaks, and went back to bed. Later when I go up and walked around the trailer, I found a small branch on the ground by the truck. I think that’s what fell on us. Everything that hits the rig always sounds so loud. The falling rain and hail all sound like bombshells on the roof.
The group rode to West Monroe today to tour Duck Dynasty. We saw a 15-minute video about how the company got started then toured a museum that was set out in a very different manner. There was large room made to look like a swamp. It was dark with cypress trees, water, and wildlife. There were posters on the walls and many DVDs for sale. They gave us all a duck call. I asked for four for my grandsons. We’ll send it to them for Easter. It’ll annoy their parents to death.
We went to lunch at a small Louisiana café called . There were 16 of us there with one waiter. He was a young, black man and very efficient. I was impressed at how he kept our glasses filled and got everyone what they asked for.
We stopped at WalMart to pick up a few items. We stopped at 3 liquor stores before we found what we wanted. One liquor store was overrun with Louisiana Tech students. We think there was a game going on and they were all buying liquor before or after the game.
After we got back, there was a game of card bingo. Thirty of us played. We were initially short a player but we called Linda and had her come fill in the one spot.
2025 March 28 (Fri) – We traveled to a new campground today. On the way, we all stopped at the Louisiana Downs Race Track for lunch. Johnny had originally arranged for a free lunch at this stop but the guy he worked with was fired and the new manager refused to honor the arrangement. So we stopped and got gift bags and they let us have the $10 special – chicken fried steak or fish platter (but the waitress didn’t know what kind of fish was used).
Then it was on to Ruston and the Lincoln Parish Park Campground. It is a beautiful campground with lots of trees. Our campsite backs right up to the river. We arrived in the rain – it rained hard all day and last night.
2025 March 27 (Thu) – The group went for a tour of Melrose Plantation this morning. It was a lovely plantation with lots of interesting history. It was the only southern plantation owned by a free black woman who was worth $2 million when she died. She had 17 children, who had eventually paid for and freed.
At 5:30 p.m. we had a travel meeting, followed by a potluck dinner. As usual with these things, there was too much great food to eat.
2025 March 26 (Wed) – The group went into Natchitoches for a walking tour of the town. The film, Mississippi Magnolias, was filmed (in part) in the town. It was not a long walk but there was a lot of standing while the guide talked about the history of the area. It’s amazing that someone could have all those dates and names and places in their head. The young man knew a lot!
After the tour, Johnny & Linda, Terry, Joe & Diane, and we went to a restaurant for lunch. When done, Joe and I had to hurry back for a zoom meeting on the national muster in September. The rest of the caravan went on a tour of Fort St. Jean Baptiste.
At 5:30 p.m., we all gathered in the meeting room and Johnny picked up Zwolle tamales for everyone. Joe & Diane made chili to go on the tamales. There were left over meat pies and dirty rice we tried to get rid of, too.
2025 March 25 (Tue) – The caravan began today! There was an orientation meeting where Johnny gave all the details about how things are going to go and what we will be seeing and doing. Johnny & Linda and Paul & I dressed up in crazy Mardi Gras outfits and danced into the room. Johnny wanted to get everyone up and dancing and happy. That worked very well.
After orientation, we had Louisiana Meat Pies that Johnny picked up and brought in. There was also dirty rice and bread pudding with them. There were many meat pies left over that we will put out at the next meals until they are all gone. We all watched Mississippi Magnolias tonight in preparation for a walking tour of town tomorrow.
2025 March 24 (Mon) – We spent the day working with Johnny & Linda getting ready for the caravan. We set up tables and chairs, sorted bags and jackets, and got things in place. I made meatloaf for dinner (Johnny’s favorite).
2025 March 23 (Sun) – We both packed up and left Johnny’s home at 12:30 p.m. It was an hour drive to Grand Ecore RV Park in Natchitoches (pronounced NACK-A-DISH). It is a very nice campground with lots of green grass and tall trees. We have arrived two days before the official start of the caravan. Some of the participants have begun arriving. Joe & Diane were here when we arrived, as well as some other campers. They continued to come in after us.
Several of us sent to dinner at T-Johnny’s on the River. It is a seafood restaurant. The service was slow and several of us complained about the food. When we returned, we brought our camp chairs and sat around the community fireplace. What a great place! They had a fire pit in the center of a plaza with three more around the outer edge. All of them were propane. They put off a nice glow and took the chill off the air. It was a grand feeling and someone made a joke about going off to find a virgin to sacrifice.
2025 March 22 (Sat) – We talked about the caravan and reviewed activities to do. Johnny showed us the books and give-away bags. I did the laundry. Paul mowed the lawn. I swear, he comes to Johnny’s just to get a fix with lawn mowing. Lol.
I pulled out hamburgers and Linda cooked them up. I made roast potatoes. Before dinner, we sat in the boathouse and admired all the birds and boats going by on the lake.
2025 March 21 (Fri) - We packed up and left Tyler, TX, at 10:30 a.m. It was an easy drive to Johnny & Linda’s in Chatham. We parked in their backyard where they usually park their rig. It was parked around the front where they were packing it for our caravan trip. Johnny & Linda were our tail gunners on the Alaska caravan. They are leading this new Louisiana Food & Music Tour caravan as the wagon masters and we will be the tail gunners. A little role reversal.
Linda made etouffee for dinner. It is a delicious Louisiana dish made with shrimp, sausage, and crawfish over parbroiled rice.

Eternal Love - Chapter 7
A/N: sorry if this chapter seems rough. If was actually really hard for me to write this knowing where I am taking this story. I hope you all enjoy it though
If you lose someone but find yourself, you won. Today marks a year… a year since he walked away from me. I never imagined I would lose him but I had refound myself. I was so caught up with him and everything with Hannah that I had lost who I was.
Dan had stuck by my side through all of it. It has been six months since we started dating and everything was going great. I honestly think I can see a future for myself that wasn't a life on the run. However, I found myself missing Jake, especially when Hannah or Lilly talked about him. I was glad he kept in some form of contact with them but man it hurt. It hurt that he was willing to put their lives at risk but not mine. It hurt that he still talked to them and checked in but I was the one he pushed away.
Am I selfish for these feelings? Should I end things with Dan, the great guy is he? All because I find myself still missing Jake.
I shake my head, no I can't let today get in my head. Dan has been perfect these last six months and my heart would break losing him from my life.
I realize the time and that I need to get the food ready for dinner with Dan tonight. I decided to make a fried steak with a potato salad and some sauteed garlic asparagus.
Dan's POV
It's been six months since her and I decided to be honest about our feelings. At first everything was great. I knew in her heart he still held a spot and I understood, she thought he was her forever love and her heart had been broken. During these six months he realized she's still been healing. There were lots of great moments between them but as he watched her in the kitchen cooking dinner he couldn't help but think they both deserved more.
She would always hold a special place in his heart, no doubt he would always love her. However, were they really in love? Could they both imagine waking up to each other every morning and falling asleep in eachothers arms every night?
In his heart he knew his answer, he could, but she couldn't. He knew the moment Gackerman came back her heart would instantly pull towards him without her even realizing. That's what I wanted, I wanted the love he knew that deep down inside both their hearts was still there for eachother.
There hasn't been a moment these six months that he knew would keep her in his arms when he returns. There was no doubt he would return for her.
I lean against the door frame, watching her cooking them dinner. Whoever ends up with her will be a lucky man, but he will always be a part of her life as he cares about her and would do anything to protect her that he could.
I walk up and stand next to her, "MC, can we talk?"
She looks up me with those hazel eyes and a big smile. "Yeah let me just finish dinner, it's just about done." She kisses me on the cheek as she tastes dinner and I can tell she's pleased as she pulls it off the burner. "Let's eat first though, I made your favorite meal."
I swear her smile could light up any room and I feel like I'm about to break her heart. I reluctantly agree to eating before we talk. I don't want her cooking tonight to go to waste. I feel she might kick me out of here and I can't blame her one bit if she does.
MC POV
I'm faking this tonight with Dan. After six months I shouldn't have torn I should feel those butterflies still when he looks at me. I doubt he can tell I'm even faking it. I've noticed these last couple months he's more like the brother I never had and I know we need to end this. However, I don't want this dinner to go to waste. So while he wants to talk I'm glad he agreed to after.
We enjoy the dinner with a drink. We decided to keep tonight alcohol free which is a nice change. As we finish eating and joking around I go to take his plate and he grabs my hand. I see in his eyes he wants to talk.
"Dan I need to tell you something," I look away from him.
"Same time then boo" he smiles.
"I think we should end this" we both say at the same time.
It's almost like a weight is off our shoulders. As we both say the same thing."Dan, don't get me wrong you're a great guy but I feel we're better off as friends." I say with a sigh.
"Boo, I feel the same towards you. I know today is a year and I know if he does return whether you want to admit if or not. Your heart will pull you right back to him." He puts his hand on my forearm.
I feel the tears because he's right. No matter how much I heal and move on, Jake will always have a part of my heart. Dan pulls me in for a hug and I just start balling. We both know the tears aren't for us, they are for the truth I have been hiding.

________
Friday Night
“Y/N, I’m downstairs when you’re ready,” said Jensen through your closed bedroom door.
“I’ll be there in five,” you said.
“See you in fifteen,” he chuckled before he walked away. You walked back into your bathroom, looking over your hair in a bun. It looked like a freaking messy bun actually. You should have done it down and in big flowy waves instead. You pouted and smoothed out your dress. Of course you were bloated and you’d nicked your leg more than once shaving earlier.
“It’s Jensen,” you said to yourself, taking a deep breath. “He’s never even seen you in makeup before. You’re fine. He’s not gonna say anything.”
You forced yourself out of the bathroom and slipped on your heels, your clutch in your hand. You wobbled for a step or two on the carpet but did better once you were out in the hardwood hall. Ten seconds later you were downstairs, heading over to the foyer area.
“All set?” you asked, Jensen spinning around. He smiled as he stared, eyes looking you up and down more than once, not even trying to hide it.
“Y/N, you look pretty,” said Arrow as she rushed in from the family room.
“Yes she does,” said Jensen. “We’ll be home soon, okay?”
“Okie dokie,” she said, wandering off with a little wave.
Half an hour later you were sat at a table in a very nice restaurant, Jensen tugging on his collar. His cheeks were slightly pink but it wasn’t from the cold outside.
“So...what’s a good wine?” you asked, sliding the drink list over to him. “I’m not really good with the names.”
“You like red or white?” he asked.
“Normally red,” you said. “You?”
“I like a Merlot,” he said. “You like dry?”
“Sure,” you said.
“We’re not going dutch tonight you know right. This is all on me.”
“We can go dutch, Jensen.”
“I asked you out and this is fancy, even for me. My treat, okay?” he asked.
“Alright,” you said, looking around the restaurant and over in the distance to the bar. “You know I could go for a lemon drop actually.”
He smirked and set the list down, a waiter coming by. He ordered a gin and tonic for himself while you got your cocktail, Jensen breaking off part of a breadstick from the basket.
“Bread’s good,” he said with his mouth full.
“So. Ackles,” you said, picking up a piece and tearing off a chunk with your teeth. He stared and started to laugh to himself. “Ah, there’s my sweet guy.”
“Thought you were gonna say boyfriend for a second.”
“This is our second official date,” you said. “So. Boyfriend.”
“Yes girlfriend?” he chuckled.
“What’s an appetizer look like in a place like this? Like a tiny cube of cheese with some dressing they’re gonna charge twenty bucks for or something like that?”
“You’re goofy,” he said, a big smile stuck on his face. “Uh, they probably have something like that. There’s normally some kind of bread olive oil bowl option.”
“Fancy people eat like a starving college student apparently,” you said. He tried to hide his laugh as your waiter brought over the drinks and a pair of menus. “Excuse me but can you recommend an appetizer? We’re both new to town and are wondering what you think is a good choice.”
“You can’t go wrong with our sourdough and seasoned oil dipping sauce,” he said. You glanced at Jensen and smiled. “The artichoke spinach dip and tartar crackers are also quite lovely.”
“Do you have anything with a little more substance? We’re quite starving,” said Jensen.
“The fried calamari and crab cake poppers combo is a great option,” he said.
“What’s calamari?” you asked.
“Squid, miss,” said the waiter.
“We’ll have that combo,” said Jensen.
“Perfect. I’ll put that in and be back shortly to get your dinner orders,” he said. He took off and you made a face at Jensen.
“Squid?” you asked.
“It’s fried. Trust me, it’s pretty good,” he said. “I could go for a good steak. You see a filet on here yet?”
“Uh,” you said, eyes scanning the page and seeing most everything was something you’d never heard of.
“There it is,” he said. “I’m getting that and scalloped potatoes. See anything you want to try?”
“Uh, why does half of this seem like it’s a foreign language to me?” you asked. Jensen looked at his menu and chuckled.
“That would be because it’s in French. We’re in Canada and this is a french restaurant.”
“Oh. Gotcha,” you said. He got up and leaned over the back of your chair, glancing at the page.
“These are soups and salads,” he said, pointing near the top. “Sandwiches. Pasta. Main dishes down here.”
“Uh, maybe pasta?” you said. He knelt down and read off the dishes to you one by one, your waiter returning by the time he was just finishing.
“Anything I can assist you with?” he asked.
“I’ll have the fettuccine alfredo with chicken please,” you said, handing the menu to him, Jensen returning to his seat.
“Face principale?” he asked. You stared at Jensen and he smiled.
“She doesn’t speak French,” said Jensen.
“My apologies miss. What would you like for your main side dish?” asked the waiter. “Steamed vegetables, scalloped potatoes, lobster bisque-”
“I’ll have the vegetables,” you said. Jensen ordered and the waiter went to get your appetizer, a sad smile on his face.
“I’m sorry. I didn’t think twice about the French thing.”
“Kinda hot that you know French,” you said. “I should try to learn it if we’re gonna be up here for a few months.”
“I’m an idiot and I learned it so you’ll do just fine picking it up,” he said.
“So where’d you learn in the first place?”
“I’m stuffed,” you said, plopping your napkin from your lap onto the table awhile later. Jensen took the last bite of the piece of mouse pie, licking his lips as he finished. “This might have been the best alfredo I’ve ever had.”
“I enjoyed it. Mostly I enjoyed listening to you talk,” he said. You blushed and looked away, Jensen letting out a small hum. “It’s funny. Doesn’t really feel like just a second date, does it.”
“No, not really,” you said. “I guess that’s what happens when you’re friends first.”
“Well I definitely like being friends with you,” he said.
“Me too, Jensen.”
“Want to get out of here?” he asked. You smiled and nodded, the two of you outside a few minutes later wrapped up in your coats. Your feet were cold in just your heels, Jensen’s arm wrapping around your waist when you almost slipped more than once. It was slow going back to the car, especially when it started to snow lightly.
“You know, that dress would still look hot with winter boots,” he chuckled.
“Sorry,” you said.
“No apology necessary. I got freaking dress shoes on and my feet are cold. I can’t imagine how you’re holding up,” he said.
“The perils of being a woman,” you said.
“Well, no need to impress me is all I’m saying. I ain’t looking at your feet anyways,” he said.
“Oh well in that case I’ll wear some nice baggy sweats next date.”
“Please do,” he said.
“You really don’t care, do you.”
“I think you look beautiful tonight. But I think you look beautiful every night. You did your hair and makeup and this is stunning, don’t get me wrong. But she’s not more beautiful than the girl at home with hair tossed up all messy walking around in oversized shirts and leggings. It’s like flowers. Both are pretty but one isn’t more pretty than the other.”
“Where the fuck did I find you?”
“At my house,” he chuckled. You whacked his arm and leaned your head on his shoulder. “Almost back to the car. I’ll blast the heat for us when we’re in there.”
“Thanks Jensen.”
“Thank you for the date, honey. I mean it. We’ll do it again sometime. Promise.”
Saturday Night
“Your boyfriend seems pissed,” said Brandon. You sipped up the last of your beer, glancing over to the bar where Jensen was tapping his finger.
“He’s fine,” you said. “So any good parks around the west side of town?”
“Center Grove is always my choice. Good playground, nice area, cops routinely are around. Parking can kinda be a bitch sometimes but it’s worth it in my opinion. My kids love it.”
“You’ve been their nanny for five years you said?”
“Mhm,” he said, knocking back the last of his drink. “Shawn’s mom is their mom’s best friend.”
“Oh. So you had an in already.”
“You know long term gigs are the way to go in this job,” he said. “Not too many American girls come up here. Your accent is cute.”
“Is it, eh?” you chuckled.
“Like I’ve never heard that one before,” he said, Jensen walking back with two beers and a clenched jaw.
“You okay?” you asked as he sat it down in front of you.
“I’m fine,” he said, taking a long sip. Brandon slid off his seat and made a face.
“I need a refill anyways. Nice meeting you Y/N. We gotta hang some time,” he said as he walked away.
“For sure,” you said, Jensen rolling his eyes behind his back. “Jensen what’s going on?”
“Nothing,” he said.
“Well you obviously have a problem with Brandon.”
“I don’t have a problem with him. I have a problem with my girlfriend flirting with another guy.”
“I was not flirting. I’m trying to make new friends. It was your idea to come to this thing tonight anyways.”
“Whatever,” he scoffed.
“Excuse me?”
“In case I wasn’t clear, I’m not the kind of guy where I’m okay with you dating multiple people at once. I don’t get that not exclusive shit.”
“I’m with you and only you. I was being nice. Geez, let’s just go,” you said. You got up and pulled your coat on, bumping into a guy on the way out. He turned and apologized, staring at you a little long.
“Y/N?” he asked, a big smile on his face. “My Y/N?”
“Dad?” you said, his face much older looking than you remembered but his eyes still the same.
“Dad?” said Jensen. You brushed past your dad and outside, Jensen hot on your heels.
“Y/N,” your dad said as he left the bar.
“Stay away from me,” you said. “Jensen I want to go home right now.”
“What-”
“Right fucking now!”
He held up his hands and you walked around the block to the car, getting inside and Jensen taking off.
“So your dad’s alive huh,” he said. You stared out the dark window with crossed arms. “So is everything I know about you bullshit?”
“What?”
“Is literally anything you’ve ever told me true? Your dad obviously didn’t die when you were a kid. All those late night talks about family and shit, you just like to fuck with people or something?”
“I was not flirting with Brandon you asshole. You didn’t need to know my whole life story the second I meet you.”
“Oh. Okay. Just your fake life story then, huh?” he said. You shook your head as he got stuck at a red light. “If I can’t trust you, I can’t employ you let alone date you.”
“Whatever,” you said. He drove in silence until you were out of the city, going along quieter roads. You were close to the house when he suddenly turned right towards the local park and stopped in the lot, putting the car in park. He touched your arm and you turned, Jensen leaning over and kissing you roughly, far more roughly than you thought he was capable of. You blinked when he pulled back, Jensen looking you up and down.
“He won’t hurt you.”
“What?”
“Did he walk out on you and your mom?” he asked. “You told him to stay away from you. Sort of shouted it at him. Maybe you lied but maybe...I’m sorry I got jealous of Brandon. I’m still scared and I think you’re still scared too and that’s okay. If you lied about your dad, I’m gonna trust you have a good reason for it. I’m sorry for what I said. I trust you and I don’t want to know what my life is like without you in it.”
“It’s okay,” you said quietly. “I forgive you.”
“You don’t have to tell me what happened,” he said. “We can just go home, okay?”
“Why’d you pull over?”
“Because I knew I didn’t mean it and I knew I overreacted. I said I’d mess up when we started. It’s been a long time since I’ve done this. I’m 42 with three kids. Brandon is thirty and young and stronger than I am and can go out to the bar whenever he wants. You have options. You don’t have to settle for me.”
“If I’d wanted to settle, I’d have married my ex. What I wanted was the guy that forgives me for not telling him the whole story cause I’m not ready to say it. I want the guy that makes me happy and feel like I have a teenage crush but it’s deeper than that. You’re not the settle for option, Jensen. Why don’t you get that?”
“The last time I felt like this, I married the girl,” he said quietly. “That didn’t turn out so well.”
“You didn’t get the time you deserved with her. It doesn’t mean it ended badly. You loved her and she knew it. She wants you to be happy again, whether it’s me or somebody else.”
“See? That’s the shit that tells me...it tells me to keep falling for you. I’m so sorry for how I acted tonight.”
“I lied about my dad and not a little white one either,” you said with a nod. You turned away and felt his hand on your cheek. “So much of what I told you was a lie.”
“You don’t have to tell me the truth right now, Y/N.” He stroked your cheek and you glanced over, meeting his soft green eyes.
“My mom died giving birth to me,” you said, Jensen nodding. “He hated me for it. Hated me. He would hurt me when I was a toddler. When I was four he started doing...other things.”
“Four?” he breathed out.
“I didn’t know it wasn’t normal. Not until I started school. I was scared though so I never said anything. One of my friends mom’s realized what was going on when I was over playing one day. He went away and lost custody. I went into foster care briefly and got adopted when I was eight. Single mom who’d lost her husband young. That’s my mom. She was a kind person. Ray was always good to her and to me. But I asked him not to adopt me after she was gone and he knew it was because I was still scared of a dad again. Being a nanny, I’ve met fathers that look at me and I just know what was going through their head. I reported him and kinda fucked up their family situation but-”
“That was the right thing to do,” he said.
“I know it was. I’ve just...I’ve had more than one guy and even a woman walk in on me changing or into my bathroom and it’s like, she’s just the help, nobody cares. They don’t touch so it’s like...what can I even do? Then my house before this one, the guy tried getting in my shower with me and I shoved him and he broke his arm and I just don’t understand why so many people think I’m just a piece of meat. Even my ex never got why it bothered me so much. They didn’t touch me so what was wrong with it? He just didn’t get it. He would get mad if I wasn’t in the mood for sex. Nobody ever fucking gets it except you who I lied to and pissed off tonight and without a word of an explanation why, you say you won’t let somebody hurt me. Do you get why you’re the opposite of fucking settling Jensen?”
“I won’t hurt you.”
“I know you won’t Jensen.”
“How?”
“Because you’re a good person. You’re so gentle and kind. I know you’re strong and tough but I see it everyday. You should never be worried about how your kids will turn out. If they are half as good as you are they’ll be fucking great people. Your daughters aren’t gonna put up with shit and your son is gonna be kind to everyone and say fuck you to the toxic guys out there. I can already tell the kind of person you are through them and it’s a good one. A really good one.”
“I’m not the only good person in their lives,” he said. You sniffled and looked down, Jensen’s hand sliding under your chin and tilting it up. “You don’t have to apologize for not telling me all of that. Never apologize for not telling me that. Okay?”
“I never told anyone about…the other stuff,” you said, wanting to look down but Jensen’s hand holding your chin up.
“You have nothing to be embarrassed about. I’m sorry it took you so long to find people that would protect you.”
“You mean…” He nodded and dropped his hand away, running it over your head. “You’re not gonna like, go back and kick his ass are you?”
“Want me to? I’m very tempted at the moment,” he said.
“I just want to go home. I could use one of those hugs right now.”
“Do you want to stay with me tonight? Just to stay, nothing more.” You nodded and he kissed your forehead, a tiny smile crossing your face. Ten minutes later you were home and the babysitter was gone, Jensen pulling you into his room next to yours. You blew your nose in his bathroom and washed off your face, lifting your head to find a pair of your pajama shorts and one of his shirts on the vanity beside you. He smiled as he ducked out, leaving you to change. You let your hair down and took off your bra before you walked out and saw his blanket on the opposite side of the bed. “Warm enough?”
You spun around as he walked inside and you nodded, Jensen pulling you into a hug.
“I’m sorry for how I was at the bar,” you said.
“I was the one that overreacted, not you,” he said. You felt goosebumps on your arms and he pulled away to turn up the heat, nodding over to the bed. The covers were flung back and you climbed underneath, Jensen getting in on his side. His arm wrapped over your waist and pulled your chest close to his, face only inches away. “You don’t have to worry about him anymore. No one will hurt you again. I promise.”
You moved closer to him, resting your forehead against his.
“Remember last Saturday when we were on the trampoline and you talked about those safety nets,” you said.
“Yes, I do.”
“You’re a really good net,” you said softly.
“So are you,” he murmured. He kissed the tip of your nose and you shut your eyes. “What’d you want to be when you were little?”
“A princess,” you said. He chuckled and you smiled. “I wanted a prince to come take me away and everything would be just fine.”
“Really?”
“Princesses were always happy at the end of the movie,” you said. “They got the boy and they were happy. Then I grew up and prince charming doesn’t exist.”
“Cause you’re not a damsel in distress. You didn’t need the prince to save you.”
“But the prince would have made life so much easier.”
“I’m partial to badass princesses myself,” he said. You opened your eyes and he was smiling.
“I’ve never noticed your freckles before.”
“They come out more when I spend some time in the sun.” You moved a hand up and traced under his eye, Jensen nuzzling into his pillow. “Make you a deal. If the badass princess saves me, the scared prince will save her too.”
“Okay,” you said. You kissed him lazily, Jensen smiling through it.
“Do you want to be a nanny forever?”
“Not forever. It’s an easy way to feel like you have a family when you don’t.”
“Now you do,” he said.
“Jensen you don’t know if this will work out.”
“I do and you do and we’ll take it slow anyways,” he said. “Which is why I’m asking do you want to be a nanny forever.”
“Why?”
“Because maybe someday I won’t need one,” he said.
“I thought about being an elementary school teacher when I was eighteen for a hot second.”
“You did? You’d be amazing.”
“Pay in Texas is crap though. I make more as a nanny.”
“If money wasn’t an issue though, would you want to be a teacher still?”
“Anything at all?” you asked, Jensen nodding, nose brushed against yours. “Stay here. I’ll be right back.”
“You okay?” he asked, reluctantly letting you out of bed.
“I’m good. I want to show you something,” you said. You slipped out of the room and down the hall to the playroom, picking up a book. Jensen was sat up in bed when you returned and crawled under the covers. You handed him the book and he smiled.
“I don’t remember buying this,” he said, flipping it over. “There’s no serial code on it.”
“You can’t buy it. I wrote a children’s book and printed a few copies for myself,” you said.
“You wrote a book?” he asked, flipping through it. “Did you draw this?”
“Yeah,” you said, Jensen staring at you. “I don’t know if it’s any good. I never tried publishing it.”
“You want to write children’s books, don’t you?” he said, starting to read the story.
“I have a number of them written out. I would make up the stories for kids at bedtime and decided to write them down. It’s kinda like whinnie the poo, that age group, you know? Same group of characters but different stories,” you said.
“These are adorable,” he said, turning another page. You were quiet while he read through for a few minutes, Jensen smiling when he shut the book. “I’ve never read a children’s book where they deal with the loss of a parent.”
“The kids really like it,” you said.
“You should publish this. Seriously. It’s cute and I’m a grown ass man and it made me feel better about Dee.”
“It’s just a story,” you said, rubbing the back of your neck.
“I make stories for a living. This whole place would fall apart without stories. This is good. You should consider trying to get it published.”
“Maybe if that nanny job doesn’t work out I will,” you said.
“Do you mind if I keep this?” he asked.
“Not at all. I gave it to JJ in the first place.”
“Thanks. I want to read this to the twins tomorrow,” he said. He set it on the nightstand and slid back down, pulling you with him. “Why’d the mom fox die in the story? I would have expected the dad wolf considering…”
“Wish fulfillment for a nice father,” you said. “Plus I like drawing the wolf.”
“I like him. He’s fluffy,” chuckled Jensen. “Is that why you asked if I carry a picture of my kids when we met?”
“I’m done with asshole parents. If they treat their kids like shit they sure as hell aren’t gonna treat me any better. You seemed like a good guy. Good guys tend to do that kind of thing.”
“I’m not always good.”
“Yeah, you are,” you said. You shut your eyes and nuzzled close to him, Jensen letting out a soft hum. “You okay? With me being here.”
“Very. Feeling better after everything that happened?”
“Mhm,” you said. “I’m still sorry I lied to you.”
“Did you ever lie about your mom?” he asked. “I mean aside from the fact she adopted you, did you lie about her?”
“No.”
“Then you didn’t lie, not really. I’m sorry it came out like that. You should have been able to tell me in your own time.”
“You still would have been angry,” you said.
“I still would have come to my senses too. I’m not perfect. I never was.”
“I don’t want someone perfect,” you said. Your head rested against his chest and you let out a soft sigh.
“Goodnight, Y/N,” he said. He kissed the top of your head and tucked it under his chin, adjusting the blankets once before he stilled.
“Goodnight, Jensen.”

What’re we eating kids?
It’s hotter than Satan’s asshole here, but I have some mushrooms that are about to grow a whole new fungus in my fridge so I’m making this mushroom marsala pasta bake--which is usually one of my FAVOURITE pasta dishes, but it’s just about the last thing I feel like tonight.
A cheesy, baked pasta dish when it literally already feels like a fucking oven outside is not high on my cravings list, but alas, here we are.
The heirloom tomatoes are incredible this year and I kind of can’t stop thinking of a simple salad of a mound of sliced tomatoes, a hefty glug of olive oil, tons of flaked sea salt, and a slice of panko’d, fried feta (probably in the air fryer). I had a similar salad of pink tomatoes with crispy crunchy fried feta at Babylon in Stockholm and I just have become OBSESSED with the concept.
That, along side a T-bone steak on the bbq or something. UGH I crave.
But I’m also making burritos this week which I love and I don’t make nearly often enough, so kind of win?

Requested by anon: could you do one where reader is not interested in jay cause she thinks he's one who has a new girl every night but he’s constantly trying? She’ll slowly fell for him too? maybe with a little smut if you write?
Warnings: none, a lil fluff!
A/N: First one for 2021~ Happy New Year! This became a little longer and it feels a bit segmented because of the nature of the request, so I hope this turned out okay! Sorry, I’m not writing smut/NSFW currently so I replaced it with a lil fluff instead, hope that is okay! Enjoy, and feel free to send in more requests!
---
Jay pushed the beer towards you as he slid into the seat opposite you, a small smile gracing his lips. “Y/N, how about it?”
You looked up at him, internally rolling your eyes. “I told you, Jay, no.”
Jay didn’t seem like he was giving up easily though. “It’s just a dinner, come on.”
Your eyes studied the man sitting across from you at a table in Molly’s. “Jay, you’re asking me on a date.”
“And what’s wrong with that?” Jay asked, a hint of mischievousness hidden in the tone of his voice that was almost drowned out by the noise in Molly’s.
You shook your head, although you were still smiling. “I told you, Jay, I’m not going on a date with you.”
Jay remained silent, watching you, as if waiting for you to say more.
“I’m not going to be another one of your conquests.”
The words bounced between you and Jay and for a moment and you could have sworn you saw his face fall for just an instant. “Y/N.”
You shook your head and smiled. “No, Jay. We can hang out here, but there is no way I’m going on a date with you. I’ll see you around, okay?” You pushed off your chair, waving at him as you went to re-join your friends at the next table.
Jay watched you for a little while more, as you leaned on the table, laughing at something, the dim light of Molly’s bouncing off your hair.
“You’re not a conquest.” Jay muttered to himself, before he got up and went back to the bar to join his brother.
---
In a way, you were glad that Jay had seemed to revert back to his old self... mostly. You felt you were seeing him more and more often these days but he hadn’t tried to bring up the topic of a date again.
You treasured him as a friend and really didn’t want that to change. Jay was sweet and looked out for you, but you’d be damned if you let him treat you like another one of those girls he flirted with and probably slept with every other night.
No way in hell.
So you never let it get too far, you drew a line between yourself and Jay and made sure you guys stayed as friends, not just for him but for yourself too. You might as well have a sign flashing at him that read “Not Interested”.
Yet, you allowed yourself to be dragged out here, you mused, as you looked up at Will and Natalie. Stupid Natalie.
You couldn’t believe you had let her talk you into coming for dinner with her and Will… and Jay. This smelled suspiciously like a scheme of a double date but you swallowed back a sassy comment.
“We’ll take two steaks, both medium.” You were snapped out of your thoughts by Will talking to the waiter.
Jay looked at you and you leaned over quietly to point out your order to him – a double cheeseburger.
The waiter turned to Jay as he finished taking down Will’s order. “I’ll have the beef burger. She’ll have the double cheeseburger, can you make sure there are no tomatoes in there.” Your head snapped up, surprised Jay had remembered.
“And there’s no other sauce in there, is there?” Jay asked, not noticing your reaction at all.
The waiter nodded. “Just the barbeque sauce, sir.”
Jay nodded back at him, as he handed the menu back. “That’s fine. Make sure there’s no mayonnaise on the plate, and can we have the salad dressing separate as well, thanks.”
The waiter nodded, jotting down the orders, while you continued to stare at Jay.
“What?” Jay asked, finally feeling your gaze on him.
You raised an eyebrow. “You remembered?”
Jay just smiled back without saying anything as Will smirked across the table.
You had mentioned it just once – tomatoes were a no-go and mayonnaise even more so. You hadn’t even mentioned the salad dressing, you had just wrinkled your nose at how your fries were all soaked in it.
Jay was indeed something.
---
“Heya.” Natalie slid into the bar stool next to you. “Sorry I’m late, I got held up today.”
You smiled back at your friend, taking the last swig from your beer and flashing a smile at Herrmann to ask for another.
As Herrmann pushed the new pint of beer towards you, Natalie cleared her throat. “So…”
You inwardly groaned. You should have known this was coming.
“You’re really not going to give Jay a chance?” she asked, angling her body towards me.
“Nat, come on!” You whined. “Is this why you wanted to meet me?”
Natalie chuckled. “Well, about 50%...”
You shook your head. “No, I’ll tell you the same thing I told him weeks ago. I’m not going to be another one of his conquests.” Natalie tried to argue but you continued. “How awkward is that going to be? I mean, look, he’s not some random guy I met in a bar, he’s my friend and I’m not going to… no way am I going to be another one of those girls.”
As you finished your sentence, you nodded your head further down the bar, where Jay sat. Natalie looked up just as a girl slid towards Jay. Even from this distance, you could see her batting her fake eyelashes at him and a small laugh escaped your lips.
“No way.” You repeated, enunciating each word pointedly.
Natalie didn’t say anything but instead tapped your arm. “Wait, just watch.” It was almost as if she knew what was coming, and was just waiting for it.
You and Natalie watched as the girl twirled her finger in her hair, moving closer to Jay. “Why are we watching Jay like this, Nat?”
“Because.” Nat replied, without turning. “You’ll see.”
Jay smiled at the girl and slid off his seat. “I could have told you that would happen.” You commented before Natalie cleared her throat again.
You looked back up, your eyes widening slightly in surprise as you watched Jay nod politely to the girl before heading further into Molly’s, leaving the girl with a disappointed look on her face. Natalie turned back, smirking at me.
“I swear, Jay’s trying. That’s probably the tenth girl he’s let down since.”
You cocked an eyebrow at her as you saw Jay’s eyes fall on both of you.
“Hey ladies, didn’t see you here.” Jay smiled, his eyes lingering on you a little longer. You cleared your throat and turned back to the bar as Jay slid into the seat next to you.
“Not your cup of tea?” You asked, smirking at him. Jay laughed and shot back, “You would know.”
You rolled your eyes as Natalie put a hand on your arm. “I’ll be back in a while.”
“Wait, Nat…” You tried to stop her but she was already gone.
You turned back to Jay who was still smiling. “So… do I get points for trying?”
“Yeah, nice try.” You responded as he laughed.
“I’ll get out of your hair, but this isn’t over.” Jay warned mockingly, pointing at you, his green eyes twinkling.
“Bye Jay.” You sang, as he floated off to his colleagues.
Your thoughts wandered back to the scene you had witnessed while you were waiting for Natalie to come back. That was new, seeing Jay blow off a girl that he would usually disappear out of the bar with. You couldn’t help but admit to yourself that he seemed to be changing. Or at least, trying to.
You shook your head, hoping the thoughts would be shaken out as well.
Jay looked back at you as he stood next to Kevin, smiling slightly at the way you were shaking your head. The faint sounds of his team’s conversation around him. He sure as hell wasn’t going to give up without a fight.
He might have the occasional fling here and there, but contrary to what everyone thought, he didn’t fall into bed with every single girl that flirted with him. Some nights, he merely walked them out to get a cab. But if he needed to prove to you that he was done with flings, and that he was serious about you, then that was what he was going to do.
---
You inwardly groaned as you trailed behind your colleagues. Being the only female engineer in your company sounded great but was definitely not. You could handle the regular snide comments and sexist jokes, but you hated the ‘team drinks’.
They could only be called that if your colleagues actually behaved like a team. They just used this opportunity to get drinks, force you to have more drinks than necessary and have their hands linger on you for longer than was comfortable. It never got too far but that didn’t mean it was okay.
You sighed as they pushed open the door to Molly’s and led the way in. It hadn’t even been a good day, you were tired and cranky, and you just wanted the day to end.
You spotted Jay as you followed them in. He smiled and waved but you made a face and rolled your eyes at them, which caused him to cast a concerned glance at the group before you nodded at him, turning to reluctantly follow them to an empty table.
Before long, the table was full of drinks. Ben the sleaze had brushed his hand against your thigh at least three times and you weren’t even halfway through your first beer.
As your colleagues started to get more alcohol through their system, the comments began. You tried to tune them out, staring at a spot on the wall before turning to watch Herrmann and Stella behind the bar.
“Hey Y/N, how about another drink for you? Something stronger?”
You smiled and shook your head. “No thanks.”
“See, with women, they don’t always mean it when they say no.” One of the guys at the other side of the table slurred.
You swallowed down the rise of anger from your gut and ignored the comment instead. They were rowdier than usual, though, so although they usually moved on quickly, they didn’t this time.
“Come on Y/N, we know you don’t really mean it. Just one more drink.”
You shook your head again, more firmly this time. “Guys, I really don’t feel up to it tonight, alright? I’ll pass.”
That only seemed to make them more determined to get that drink in your hand.
They pushed a fresh glass of beer into your hand. You could feel someone’s hand on your shoulder and someone else was pushing your hand upwards, as if they felt you needed help guiding the glass to your lips.
“Hey, that’s enough.”
Jay.
You weren’t really feeling threatened or scared but you still felt a flood of relief when you heard his voice.
“I could hear her say no two tables away, you guys deaf?” Jay asked.
Your colleagues looked at each other. “Hey, we’re just having some fun.”
“Fun is when all parties enjoy it. You disrespect anyone else while you’re here, we’ll have something to talk about buddy, you hear me?”
Jay turned to you. “Come on, you’re done here.” Authoritatively, he grabbed your wrist, tugging you out from your seat. You didn’t complain but followed him as he led you out of Molly’s.
“Thanks Jay.” You said, as the outside air hit the both of you in the faces.
Jay turned back to you, cracking a smile. “And here I thought you might chew me out for that.”
You raised an eyebrow. “For helping me?”
Jay laughed, “For interfering, because…” he paused and put both his fingers up in the air in quotation marks. “You’re a strong independent woman.”
You laughed along with him. “There’s a fine line between helping and interfering. And you get full marks tonight for the differentiation.”
Jay smiled back, chuckling. “You okay?”
You nodded, “Yeah, I’m fine. They’re a little rowdier than usual tonight but I’m kind of used to that.”
“You should never have to get used to that.” Jay half snarled, throwing a dirty glance back at Molly’s front door.
You chuckled as Jay turned his attention back to you. “Come on, I’ll walk you home.”
The short walk back to your apartment was mostly silent, but a comfortable one. You stole a glance at Jay. You didn’t really want to admit it but you definitely felt a little flutter when he had stood up for you today in Molly’s and if you were being totally honest with yourself, it wasn’t the first time you had felt it.
“Thanks Jay.” You said again, as you reached your apartment.
Jay smiled back at you. “You sure you’re okay?” You could feel Jay’s eyes hovering over you even if you weren’t looking at him.
You nodded and then shrugged. “Just a bad day, I guess.” Jay’s eyes softened.
“I’ve got a listening ear if you need one. Anytime, okay?”
You smiled, “Thanks for being a knight tonight. And you didn’t even flirt.”
Jay chuckled, “Do I get extra marks for that?”
You wiggled your eyebrows back at him. “We’ll see.”
---
It had been a few months since that night that Jay had tried asking you on a date and absolutely nothing had gone according to your plan. You had been so sure you wouldn’t fall for him, so sure that you would stand your ground to just be friends.
But Jay had ruined it all bit by bit.
It was obvious to everyone the changes Jay had undergone the last few months. And honestly, no one would shut up about it either. Which was anything but helpful.
Natalie was talking about something and you were only half listening as you watched the door, noting with mild concern the little tug of disappointment you felt every time the door opened and it wasn’t Jay who walked in.
“Nat.” you interrupted her.
Natalie looked up at you. You took a deep breath, “I should just dive in, right?”
A look of confusion crossed her face for a brief moment before she broke into a smile.
“How long have you been thinking about this?” she asked.
You shook your head. “Too long for comfort.”
Natalie gave you a pointed look. “What are you still doing here then?”
You grabbed your bag, making a beeline for the door. As you crossed the threshold of Molly’s and stepped out onto the street, you came face to face with Jay.
“Leaving already?” he asked, a small look of disappointment crossing his face. If you hadn’t been watching him, you might have missed it altogether.
You hesitated but took a deep breath. “Actually, I was on my way to you.”
Jay smiled but looked intrigued.
“You ever going to ask me out on a date again?” The words tumbled past your lips as you unconsciously clenched your hands in your pocket. Maybe it was a good thing you had had some alcohol before talking to Jay.
You could literally see Jay’s eyes light up, his smile broadening.
“Seriously?”
You smiled. “Unless you decided you don’t want to…”
Jay didn’t let you finish your sentence as he stepped closer to you, one arm snaking around your waist and the other hand cupping your face, his thumb caressing the side of your face gently. “Not a chance.” He whispered, as he leaned forward and his lips found yours.
It was everything you had imagined and more, you could almost feel your knees buckling but Jay just pulled you in closer.
The both of you pulled away and you looked straight back into his green eyes. “Don’t make me regret this.” You whispered.
Jay chuckled, “Oh, never.” He smiled, his hand still resting on your back, his bright green eyes twinkling back at you.

This was Diamond Town. It was a small town surrounded by huge diamond mines and filled with diamonds dug out of said mine. It was also divided into two areas. The center was the "Town of Light" where aristocratic mansions were lined up. Surrounding it was the "Town of Wind" where ordinary, but cheerful residents lived. Kirby, Waddle Dee, and President Dedede were residents of the Town of Wind.
Kirby's home was a room in an apartment where no one lived. He was secretly living in a building that would soon be torn down. It was a rundown apartment, but Kirby loved it. The first reason was the the window. The window was partially broken, so it was well ventilated. Second, even if he sang as loud as he could, no one would get angry. The third thing was that a small airplane could be parked on the roof of the building. Kirby was very good at flying airplanes. He enjoyed carrying his luggage, taking an airplane, and going on an adventure to a distant city.
Dedede, the president of a nearby factory, was his airplane racing rival. The maneuvering skill of President Dedede was not bad, but he was not as good as Kirby. In the race yesterday, Kirby brilliantly achieved a hundred consecutive victories against him.
Even though the sun was high in the sky, Kirby was sleeping comfortably. A wooden apple crate placed near the window acted as his bed. In his dream, Kirby was boarding an airplane and flying around the sky.
" ... Let’s ... do it ... Somersault ...! " he said sleepily. The front door opened and Kirby's friend, Waddle Dee, jumped in.
"Good morning, Kirby! Hey, get up. Big news!" Waddle Dee gently woke Kirby. He rubbed his eyes and got up, still half-asleep.
"Hmm ...? Ah, good morning, Waddle Dee. Breakfast, I'll have it ... "
"Yes, yes, finish up," Waddle Dee took a sandwich out of his pouch and handed it to Kirby. He always carried food with him for his gluttonous friend. Kirby's drowsiness immediately disappeared.
"Wow, egg and ham sandwich! I love your sandwiches!" Kirby smiled and bit in.
"Hey, listen. There's big news," Waddle Dee announced in a loud voice. "This is this morning’s newspaper." Waddle Dee spread the newspaper and showed an article with a big photo.
Kirby stared at the newspaper blankly. "’An Ancient Machine Discovered in the Diamond Mine!’ ...? What is this?"
"A mysterious machine was found in the mine. It's so old that it's buried all the way in the back. It seems that it was dug out by chance."
"Hmm ... " Kirby wasn’t interested in diamonds or ancient machines. Waddle Dee grew frustrated.
"It's a nice machine. Look at millionaire Mr. Fugo's photo and comments on it," Waddle Dee said. He showed Kirby a photo in the newspaper.
The one in the picture was a smiling gentleman with a beautiful mustache. He was no stranger to the inhabitants of this town. Mr. Fugo was a rich man and the owner of a diamond mine. Not only that, Waddle Dee explained that most of the city, from railroad companies to bread factories, belonged to Mr. Fugo.
"It seems that this ancient machine has great power, but it doesn’t work now."
"Why not?"
"Because important parts of the machine are gone: the gears. So, Mr. Fugo put a prize on them. A prize of ... one million Point Stars!"
Kirby wasn't interested at all when he heard the amount of money Waddle Dee shouted. He finished eating his sandwich and opened his hands with a bright smile.
"I’d like tuna and cucumber sandwiches tomorrow! Ah, but bacon and tomatoes are also good. It's delicious with fried shrimp and potato salad ... "
"Ah, Kirby," said Waddle Dee. He spoke a bit louder so that Kirby could understand the greatness of the prize. "Listen carefully. Don’t you know how much that is? You can buy thousands of nice clothes!"
"Hmm."
"You can buy thousands of high-end hats!"
"Huh."
"And ... and ...! You could eat a deluxe lunch for 100,000 people at Chef Kawasaki's restaurant!"
" ... Eh!?"
Kirby, who hadn’t been listening until now, squealed with widened eyes. "100,000 servings ...!? Of the most luxurious deluxe lunch!?"
"Y-yes, but that was just an example ... "
"Wowwww!" Kirby grabbed Waddle Dee's hand tightly and started running. "Let's go, Waddle Dee! Fast, fast! If we don’t hurry, lunch time will end~!"
"Oh, calm down, Kirby," Waddle Dee said while being dragged along. "You need the prize to eat the deluxe lunch for 100,000 people, and you have to find the gears to get the prize."
"Uh ... yeah ...? "
Waddle Dee spread the newspaper. "The article. Read what it says."
According to millionaire Fugo, the ancient machine had the power to make everyone happy, however, the gears were stolen by an evil wizard and the machine stopped working. The stolen gears should still be sleeping somewhere in town.
"If the gears are found, the machine will work again. I want to make the citizens of this town happy. For that reason, I’m willing to put my entire fortune into it,” he had said, so he promised a huge prize for the gears of the ancient machine.
"But even if there wasn’t a machine like that, everyone would feel happy if they ate Chef Kawasaki's deluxe lunch," Kirby said curiously. Waddle Dee laughed.
"If it were you, maybe, but everyone's wishes aren't the same as yours."
"Eh?"
"I think ... " Waddle Dee said with shining eyes, "the wonderful ancient machine will surely fulfill each and every one of our wishes. Kirby's wish is to eat a lot. President Dedede's wish is to win an airplane race. I hope it’s a machine that can fulfill each and every one’s wish."
Kirby smiled. "What kind of wish do you have, Waddle Dee?"
"Huh?"
"You must have a wish too, right? What kind of wish do you want to make?"
"I ... I, uh ... " Waddle Dee closed his eyes shyly and spoke. "I want to eat a sweet called ‘chocolate.’ Just a bite."
" ... Chocolate ... "
You couldn’t get sweets in the Town of Wind. Only the aristocrats of the Town of Light could eat such luxury goods. Kirby sometimes flew to distant cities, so he had eaten delicious sweets from all over the world. Waddle Dee, however, had only eaten sweets by listening to Kirby's stories and imagining it. Even if Kirby bought souvenir sweets, they were all picked up by the guards at the entrance of the city. The rules of Diamond Town were strict, and people were not allowed to bring sweets in without permission. Kirby spread his hands wide.
"Don't say just a bite! Let's eat a lot—as much as we can!"
Waddle Dee nodded. "That's right. Let's eat a mountain of chocolate together! I'm looking forward to it."
"Yeah! To do that, We have to find the gears!"
"Let's do our best!" the two cheered.
Around the same time, President Dedede was visiting a café in the neighborhood. The store manager smiled at the president.
"Welcome, President Dedede."
"Give me the lunch special. I’ll have a large serving of bread with it."
"Yes, the lunch special and a large serving of bread."
President Dedede was a regular customer of this shop, "Daroach’s Café." It was a small shop, but it was popular because it served good coffee and lunch. The store manager was a hard-working man named Daroach.
President Dedede sat down by his favorite window, spread out his newspaper, and started reading. He spoke while Daroach brought out the plates.
"Did you hear, manager? The big news in the newspaper?"
"Hm? Oh, do you mean yesterday's airplane race? I heard from a friend—it’s a shame."
Dedede gave Daroach with a sour look. "Hmph! That’s boring, I don’t care about stuff like that. I'm talking about the ancient machine."
"What? Ancient machine?"
"It seems a great machine was found in the diamond mine." President Dedede pointed to the newspaper.
Daroach read the article. He seemed amused. "Heh, I don't know about the truthfulness of it, but it's a fun story. What kind of machine makes everyone happy?" he said.
"Read the rest of the article. It says that someone will pay a prize for those gears."
"Huh, really? Such a large amount of money. Just finding some gears can make you that much ...? "
"They’re not just any old gears. They’re special gears that can make ancient machines move. They’re not easy to find. Hm, I don't know ... "
"Right, but if anyone could find them, I bet it’d be you." President Dedede was quiet as he thought about Daroach’s words.
"Really? You think so?"
"I do. You’re smart and have a lot of courage. I think you could do it."
"Wise words. Well, I think so, too."
"Heh, please find them. And if you get the prize, please order a special lunch every day at our store."
"Hahaha! I'll buy the entire store, more like it."
"I look forward to it."
President Dedede finished his meal in good spirits and began to leave. After he left, however—the aura around the store manager changed. Daroach muttered in a low voice, with a harsh light covering his face and a fearless smile in his mouth.
"An ancient machine. Isn't that an interesting story?" At the same time, the door opened and a new customer came in. As soon as they did, Daroach returned to the face of a working store manager and greeted them with a cheerful voice.
"Welcome! Seat yourself! Today's lunch special is hamburger steak!"
The manager of the popular café was merely a guise. No one knew his true face in the Town of Wind.
The Town of Light, which was lined with aristocratic mansions, was a quiet area that was completely different from the messy streets of the Town of Wind. The road was wide and there was no trash to be seen. The scent of flowers from the gardens here and there was just right, and beautiful music could be heard from somewhere nearby. Every day and every night, a party was held in a mansion somewhere.
Tonight, a certain mansion in particular was crowded with guests who had arrived. Luxury meals were carried out one after another, and conversation was lively. During this, one of the guests stood up. He was a fine gentleman with a masked face and a red rose in his chest pocket.
"Oh? Are you leaving already, Meta Knight? If you’d like, you can take the dessert home with you." The lady of the mansion, unfortunately, stopped the guest.
"It's an exquisite chocolate cake handmade by our chef. By all means, I insist you—"
"No, it's fine. I'm done." When Meta Knight left, the aristocrats whispered.
"Maybe Meta Knight isn't interested in cakes ... "
"He's a cool person. I don't think sweet foods are good for his reputation ... "
"Oh, such a shame. I’ll have to tell the chef not to make such a sweet dessert ... "
After leaving, Meta Knight got in his car and returned to his own mansion.
"Welcome back, my lord," the butler, Vul, greeted respectfully. "How was your party?"
"The same as usual. Nothing but conversations and heavy food. I'm sick of it."
Meta Knight was polite in public, but not so much at home. He continued to speak as he walked down the corridor.
"Has anything changed while I was away?"
"No. There were no phone calls, and as for guests ... " Butler Vul opened the living room door. Just then ...
"Hey, I’m home~!"
A cheerful voice rang out from inside. Vul was so surprised he nearly fell over. Someone was sitting on the sofa, but Vul didn't remember guiding anyone.
"Huaghhhh!? Da- Da- Daroach ...!? Why you ...! From where did you ...!? " Meta Knight stopped him before he burst a blood vessel.
"It doesn't matter. The usual."
"It's because it's the usual that it's troublesome! Time and time again, in this house without my knowledge, sneaking into these halls—! Today, I have to say it's gutsy ...! "
"I said you’re dismissed."
"But ...! "
"Get me two cups of tea."
Butler Vul looked as if he was about to be sick, but when his lord, Meta Knight, commanded, he had to obey. When Vul left, Meta Knight turned to Daroach.
"Good grief. When you come next time, ring the doorbell and come in through the front door. Don't upset the butler."
"Sorry, I’ve never gotten along with that guy." Daroach grinned and held up a paper bag. "For you: an eclair. I used a lot of the chocolate you gave me the other day. I was thinking about what kind of sweets to make since chocolate is a luxury item that I rarely get, but I thought a simple eclair was best."
" ... Thank you."
Meta Knight’s countenance didn’t change, but his voice sounded happy. He didn’t dislike sweets. On the contrary, they were his favorite, however, the sweets that Daroach made were so delicious he couldn’t be satisfied with anything else. Aristocrat Meta Knight and Daroach, the café manager in the Town of Wind. Although they lived in different worlds, for some reason, they became friends after getting to know each other during a certain incident. It was rare, but if there was something wrong Daroach would sneak in from somewhere, like tonight. Butler Vul angrily brought in tea and left again. Daroach started his story.
"Tonight's errand is about gears. Are you listening?"
"Are they from a machine that was found in a diamond mine?"
"Oh. If you already know, I’ll make it quick. If someone finds all of the gears, they will get a great amount of money awarded to them."
"I'm not interested," he simply said.
Daroach looked disappointed. "Hmm. You're a very rich aristocrat, however, even if you’re not interested in gold, what about an ancient machine? Don’t you think it’s fascinating?"
" ... Not particularly."
"It's a machine made by a lost civilization. Its power is probably far greater than anything we can imagine."
" …………… "
Meta Knight was silent. He was not interested in money, but he was strongly attracted to mysteries and adventures. Daroach knew it well.
"To tell the truth, I don't want the prize, either."
" ... What?"
"I want to know what Fugo’s true motive is. Why would he have such a ridiculous prize? I wonder if he's trying to take the gears for himself ... He says, ‘I want to make the citizens happy,’ but that can't be true."
Meta Knight nodded immediately. "I wonder."
Mr. Fugo was known as a kind-hearted millionaire. He was grateful to everyone for holding parties and made donations for the residents of the Town of Wind, but Daroach and Meta Knight both knew it wasn’t how it seemed.
Daroach had excellent subordinates. They dug into newspapers and worked in aristocratic mansions and passed on the information they gathered to the boss, Daroach. Mr. Fugo was anything but a kind-hearted millionaire. He tricked people, made sly deals, and made a lot of money. Daroach wanted to reveal the truth right away, but there was little evidence. He couldn’t stand by, though. If one turned a blind eye to evil, they would inevitably be crushed by its weight. He strengthened his voice.
"I'm sure he’s planning to use that ancient machine to make a lot of money. If we can get proof of that, we can expose him."
"Exposing evil ...? It doesn’t seem like you," Meta Knight laughed. "You're not a hero of justice. You're a thief, right? I thought you were only interested in treasure."
"C’mon, stop it."
Daroach stood up. Out of nowhere, he took out a red top hat and cloak and donned them gracefully. He grinned as he tipped his brim.
"You don't need to worry when you’re with someone like me. I am the great thief Daroach who travels the world!"
Yes, this was his true identity. In the daytime, a cheerful café manager, but at night, in the darkness, a bandit who steals the treasure of bad aristocrats. His technique was splendid and artistic. He didn’t hurt anyone, nor leave any sort of evidence.
"Oh, I know. I'm sorry."
When Meta Knight apologized, Daroach stowed his hat and cloak. He was back to how he was before.
"Please, tell me your reply. Let’s find out what Fugo’s up to, and let’s find out the mystery of the ancient machine, together. You and I."
"Okay." Meta Knight nodded. Daroach smiled.
"If that’s your decision, we’re ready to take action. First, we have to gather information. I'll use my subordinates to search. You investigate around Fugo."
"All right."
"See ya," Daroach said.
He jumped with light footsteps and left through the open window.
In the blink of an eye, the great thief Daroach was gone.

Fake Date
Pairing: Dave Mustaine x fem!reader
Words: 1,965k
Summary: You and Dave have been friends with benefits since forever, but to help Junior out, you guys agree on pretending to be a couple, going on a double date with him. (smut)
A/N: I’m not sure if this is good or not because it has been in my drafts for a while, but anyway, I hope you guys like it :)
Warnings: Mature content (f i n g e r s)
“You want us to do what!?” Y/N asked, her eyes widened while Dave choked on his beer beside her.
“Just for one night, it will be just one hour, two in max.” Junior tried to defend his plan.
“No way!” Dave managed to say, still trying to calm down.
“I swear it’s the only time you’ll have to do it!”
“Why do you want us to do it so bad?” She asked, getting up and walking towards the ginger’s kitchen to get something to eat.
“Ah, you don’t understand.” Junior sighed.
“Then explain,” Dave instructed.
“Every time Julie comes around Y/N’s here, she confronted me about it and I told her she had nothing to worry about, but she wouldn’t listen to me, so I told her that she shouldn’t be worried because the two of you were dating.” He gesticulated with his hands, trying to make them understand his point.
“You said what?” Both of them said at the same time.
“Then she got all excited about it and said that we should go on a double date, and I tried, I swear that I tried to make her change her mind, but she fucking wants to do it.” He sighed, looking at the ground.
“If we do this, you’re gonna owe us big time!” Dave said, pointing his finger at the blonde.
“Exactly,” Y/N shouted from the kitchen.
“Come on, it’s not as if you guys had never kissed each other.”
It was true, and to be honest, the two of them had done many more things than just kissing. Y/N and Dave knew each other way before Megadeth, they met in 1980, and even though they were just friends, in the beginning, the sexual tension between them had always been out of the roof, so it didn’t take them too long to engage in a “friends with benefits” kind of relationship.
And even though both of them hated to admit, what they felt for each other stopped being just attraction a long time ago. Now they’d sleep together after sex, cuddling against each other and talking sweet nothings while doing it. Sometimes, they’d be doing something random, like talking, and then would start kissing, even in front of others. When one was sick, the other moved mountains to help, and they had even got into fights with strangers for each other, but the two of them were too proud to ever say anything about it.
And as Dave liked to think: “You don’t have a problem if you pretend it doesn’t exist.”
That was his excuse when Junior talked to him about Y/N a few weeks before the date. He thought the metaphor wasn’t the best, but he understood his friend, Dave always hated complicated things, mainly because he knew he was complicated himself, and he feared that if they spoke up about it, it would become complicated and it wouldn’t work out anymore.
And so here they were, Junior and Julie sat on a bench in front of Dave in a restaurant, all of them waiting for Y/N, who, as per usual, was late. The ginger played anxiously with the ring in his finger while he silently thought about how weird it would be for them to pretend that they were a normal couple.
Wait, a normal couple? His conscience teased him.
We are a couple…. I think? I mean, we hadn't seen anyone else for almost a year now… He tried to defend himself.
Then why are you so fucking worried? His mind fought back, but he had no time to reply because the center of his thoughts entered the place.
She was wearing a leather skirt and a white button-up shirt, with lots of opened buttons, revealing a lot of her skin and making it obvious that she wasn’t wearing any bra. She walked elegantly on her high heels until she reached the table, a warm smile on her lips.
Fuck, it’s almost as if she's teasing me. Dave thought to himself as he got up, adjusting his jeans to try to make his now-forming bulge less visible.
“Hey, baby.” She leaned in, giving his lips a quick kiss before she turned towards the other couple. “Hey guys, how are you?”
“Hey, Y/N! We’re good.” Junior answered, giving her a quick side hug before moving out of the way so that Julie and Y/N could hug.
“I loved your necklace.” Julie complimented, smiling before they all sat down, Y/N sitting next to Dave.
“Ah, thank you! It’s my favorite one. Dave gave me some years ago” She smiled, touching the golden accessory that she never took off.
“I’m sorry for dragging you guys here with us. It’s just that, we saw each other just twice?” Anne looked at Y/N, who only nodded in response. “And I really wanted to get to know you better.”
“Oh, it’s fine! Dave and I were actually thinking about going out tonight anyway.” She touched his thigh, asking for support on her story.
“Yeah, we try to always go out on Fridays.”
“That’s a nice tradition! For how long have you guys been together?”
Dave cleared his throat before answering. “Little more than a year. We were just friends before.”
“Aw, so it started with a friendship? That’s so sweet!”
A waiter showed up, asking what they wanted to eat.
“I’ll have spaghetti,” Junior said, handing his menu to the man in front of him.
“And for the lady?” The man asked, looking at her.
“I’ll have this chicken salad, please.”
The man nodded, turning towards the other two.
“Steak and fries,” Dave looked towards Y/N. “for you too right?”
She nodded.
“Two steaks with fries then.”
“Anything to drink?”
“Yes, bring us two cokes, please.” She handed him their menu before resting her back on the bench, feeling Dave’s fingers slightly playing with her shoulder as his arm rested on the back of the bench.
They knew each other well enough to ask for each other, in fact, they had the same tastes and thoughts on basically everything, and this similarity was the main reason for their feelings towards each other.
“And who spoke up first?” Julie asked.
“It was me,” Dave answered, making a small pause to find a story to fill in.
“We went to a party, got drunk and ended up spilling our guts.” She finished for him.
Pretty believable, coming from the two of us. He thought.
Soon the food arrived and they all started eating, talking about Megadeth and how excited they were to go on a second tour together, but as soon as the food was over, Y/N felt Dave’s hand resting on her thigh. It stayed there for a good while and she was almost sure that he had done it on reflex, but then his hand started to travel upwards, making her give him a glare, to which he just smirked.
Dave’s hands wandered underneath her skirt, finding her panties very easily. He ran his calloused fingertips against its fabric, seeing how a mix of despair and lust filled her eyes.
“And how did you two met?” Y/N asked, hoping that they would spend time enough talking, knowing that she would be too distracted to talk back for a while.
“Oh yeah, I was at this record shop…”
She kept on talking, but Y/N stopped listening to anything as soon as Dave slid her panties to the side and started running his finger up and down in between her folds, feeling how it soon started to get wet.
She sighed slowly, but upended her legs further, giving him better access.
“You know those things you put money inside? Damn, I forgot the name.” Julie asked, rubbing her forehead to try to remember.
“Cash register?” Y/N managed to say before one of Dave’s fingers entered her core, going slowly in and out of her, making her bite her bottom lip.
“Yes! Cash register!” Julie giggled, keeping on telling her story. “I couldn’t open it, and then David came and helped me, we started talking, and look at us now.” She smiled, looking tenderly to the blonde beside her.
“That’s a very good story,” Y/N answered quickly, one of her hands gripping on the table as it got difficult for her to talk normally.
“You know, Julie, Y/N used to work at a record shop too! Why don’t you tell Julie some stories?” Dave asked, his smirk growing as he inserted another finger inside of her, making her close her eyes tightly while her mouth opened slightly.
“Really?” Julie asked, looking really interested.
“Ye-Yeah! For an… for a year or so.”
As soon as she started talking, Dave curled his fingers inside of her, causing her a lot of concentration to finish her quote.
“Which record shop?”
Dave found her sweet spot, hitting it with his finger a few times, making her legs close tightly on reflex.
“Hm… which one?” She grabbed his free hand on top of the table, gripping tight at it.
“Yeah.”
“The na-… one with… I- I don’t remember the name.”
“Oh, that’s a shame,” Julie said before taking a sip of her water.
Dave hit her g-spot a few more times, making her close her eyes as she felt her walls clenching for the orgasm that was about to hit her, but he removed his finger before she could reach her climax, making her give him a mortal glare.
“Wow, it’s getting late!” Julie said, looking at the watch. “I should go, I have to work tomorrow.” She smiled.
“Yeah, let’s go. I’ll drive you home.” Junior smiled, getting up.
“What do you think, love? Let’s go too?” Dave asked.
“Yeah, sure!”
All of them got up going towards the cashier to pay, and when the others weren’t looking anymore, Dave sucked his fingers clean before turning towards Y/N and whispering in her ear. “God, I love dessert.”
She smirked, before looking down and realizing that he had a very noticeable bone inside his pants, and so she realized that he wouldn’t leave her hanging after all.
Exiting the place, Junior turned towards Dave. “Will you come with us, or….”
“I’ll spend the night at Y/N’s, don’t worry.”
They all said their goodbyes and Junior opened the passenger door for Julie, closing it when she entered the car before walking back to his friends. “I know exactly what you were doing.”
Y/N shrugged before Dave got a cigarette from his jacket's pocket while saying: “I couldn’t help it. Sorry mate!”
Junior rolled his eyes, but went back to his car, turning on the engine and leaving the parking lot.
“That was not nice of you.” She turned towards him, taking the cigarette from his lips and bringing it to hers.
“Are you sure? ‘Cause, it was damn nice to me.” He smirked, both hands circling her waist to bring her closer to him.
She put the cigarette in between her fingers, blowing out some smoke on his face, seeing the lust that sparkled in his eyes.
Leaning in, she whispered in his ear: “You won’t find it so nice when you’re the one being teased.”
Her words making a shiver ran down his spine. “Are you going to tease me?” He asked near her ear.
“Oh, I will…” Her voice an octave lower, soft like velvet. “But you won’t know when, or where, you’ll just realize it when it’s already done.”
He smirked, taking the cigarette from her hand and taking a long drag of it, he looked up, blowing the smoke away before leaning in and kissing her. Her hands finding the back of his neck while their tongues started a battle against each other.
“How about we finish this in my place?” She asked when they pulled apart, taking the cigarette to her lips again.
“Sounds like a plan.” He smirked.

With You : @withmyteeth @itsjustmyfantasyroom
Obispo “ Bishop” Losa and Lisa his long term relationship.
18+ and just a lot of fluff with our presidente . He needs cuddles and love especially during season 3
After you had finished dinner which was two nicely grilled steaks and some Caesar salad and fries with red wine he two of you moved to the living room couch . You watched him stretch out on it and then you followed suit getting into your usual spot with your head near his chest . You could see the tired look in his brown eyes . “ I worry about you getting enough sleep and that cough is back from smoking too much again Obispo.” Your hand touched his beard a little smoothing it between your fingers softly,
“ Now I know this just got serious when you call me my full name querida.” He leaned up on an elbow and kissed you with your tongues meeting for a moment .
“ And now you want to be ornery don’t you ?” You saw the little smirk on his face after your lips parted,
“ Well it’s usually Bish, B or okay even bear when it’s just us.” His face got a little red for a moment.
“ I’m aware but old man you’re not as young as you used to be and I worry because I’m a nurse and also because I love your tough biker ass.”
“ I see well would it make you feel better if I take a day tommorrow and let Hank and Taza be in charge and spend it in bed here with you?” He yawned a little. “ Damn red wine always makes me sleepy.”
“ I would like that a lot baby. I’ve missed you here .”
He picked up his phone off your coffee table and called Hank then.
“ Hey Tranq you and Taza are in charge of the kids tommorrow . I need a day to catch up on some sleep.”
The conversation was brief and after it he connected his phone to the charger in the corner .
“ There done now I’m yours Lisa.”
You held him for a moment . “ All mine.”
“ I know I have been pretty much a shit boyfriend lately .” He said softly while his hand was moving over your left breast in the tank top you had worn for your night in.
“ What is it with that spot on my body?” You asked softly.
“ Emotional comfort tit ma.”
You laughed a little but also found it sweet in his endearing way .
He didn’t mention comfort much , you were surprised he knew the word but then you still learned new things about each other all the time .
“ You know Taza has a litter of kittens out at his place that are just about ready to be away from their mom , would you want one of the girls?”
You sat up a little and smiled. “ I think I’m ready for another one though I will always miss Tito.” You had had a cat when you and Bishop had first started but he had been put to sleep about four months into your relationship .
“ Okay I’ll let him know that one of the girls is taken . They’re supposed to be grey and white .”
“ All right I will have to get some things for her then .”
Bishop yawned again . “ Shit.”
“ You need to get some sleep bear.” You said while you rested your head on his chest where he liked.
“ Hmm.” His arms wrapped around you and you pulled the throw blanket on the back of your couch down over the two of you . It looked like tonight sleep would be out here instead of in your bed but that was fine with you . You had his arms which was all you needed .

first dates and milkshakes (Poppy X MC)
Summary: By now, Belvoire’s worst kept secret is that MC and Poppy have been hooking up for weeks. Everyone knows, although no one dares say anything. One day though, MC works up the courage to finally take Poppy on a date.
Tag: @simpforpoppy
Genre: Fluff
Word Count: 1.5k
A/N: I wanted to create something short and cute for Poppy after this week’s chapter haha. It’s short but hopefully it’ll hold you over until I can get the second part of my Poppy fic done. #MakePoppyALI2020. Hope you guys enjoy:)
As she lays in Poppy’s bed, MC feels her emotions ricochet around in her chest. They’d had sex a few hours ago, but hadn’t bothered to change or get out of bed. It was a Thursday anyways, and the duo didn’t have any classes tomorrow. And although Poppy didn’t adamantly make her leave, the two generally parted ways on school nights.
Tonight, the two lay together with the sheets haphazardly thrown over them. They’re still naked, but MC feels sated as she combs through Poppy’s mane of hair with her fingers. Occasionally, Poppy makes contented noises as she scrolls through her phone and MC is happy just sitting in the silence with her. However, there has been a thought that has been bothering for a minute.
“Pop?” MC murmurs and her fingers momentarily freeze.
The blonde glances up from her phone, “Yes, Farmsville?”
“Go on a date with me,” She blurts out.
Poppy fumbles with her phone as she drops it on her chest and turns, “What did you just say?”
“Go on a date with me,” MC says, more confidently this time, “we’ve been doing this whole thing for months. And it’s not just sex anymore, at least for me. I mean, you literally text me to hang out sometimes, just us. Everyone thinks we’re dating anyways.”
“Well, technically I’m still dating Brad,” Poppy scowls.
“Yeah, technically, you haven’t been seen with him since we took down Chloe at the club. I’m literally number 3, it’s not like your reputation will be hurt,” MC tells her.
Poppy’s eyebrows furrow together as she thinks. A moment passes before she nods, “Fine. On one condition.”
“You sound overjoyed to go on a date with me,” MC teases, “what is it Pop?”
“You take me on a Farmsville-style date. No fancy dinners or whatever, show me how a normal first date is,” Poppy turns away again and picks up her phone, “I’ve never been on a real one.”
“You want to see how the other side lives? Bet,” MC smiles.
Poppy cranes her head to look back at her, “Did you...just say the word “bet” as a response?”
“Shuddup,” MC leans down and kisses her and all of Poppy’s fight leaves her.
“Tomorrow, 7 o’clock,” MC continues, “I’ll pick you up from here.”
Poppy smiles up at her, one of her rare, genuine, unreserved smiles, “Okay.”
---
“Hi pretty girl,” MC coos as Poppy exits her dorm building.
“Hi,” Poppy’s face heats up, “thank you.”
There’s a moment of silence as MC stares at her girlfriend (well? sort of?) and takes her in. Poppy has on a very short white tennis skirt on paired with an over-sized sweater. It’s pretty casual for her, but damn do her legs look good MC thinks to herself.
“My eyes are up here,” Poppy teases and MC laughs and kisses her on the nose.
“Just enjoying the view, but I’m going to enjoy taking these off more,” MC smiles.
Poppy swats her on the arm, “Who says you’ll get that far, Farmsville? This is our first date, you have to woo me.”
“Uh huh,” MC laughs, “come on then, we’re burning daylight.”
Poppy’s nose scrunches in disgust, “Some of the words that come out of your mouth are questionable at best.”
“Y’all don’t say that here?” MC looks genuinely confused, “I thought it was a common saying.”
“Maybe for old people,” Poppy shrugs.
MC pouts and intertwines their fingers together as she starts to walk in one direction, “You guys are lame. Now come on, it’s only a few blocks away.”
Wordlessly, Poppy allows MC to pull her along until she catches up and they walk side-by-side. A few people stare at them as they leave Belvorie’s campus, but no one in particular that they recognize. Either way, MC is too absorbed in how wonderful Poppy’s small hands fit in hers and too overjoyed to break the moment. They don’t say much, MC too caught up in looking at all of the bright city lights around them. She’s been here for months but she still hasn’t gotten used to the view.
“You’re cute,” Poppy says and MC squeezes her hand.
MC smiles, “Thank you, Pop.”
Soon they reach their destination, MC watches the shorter girl’s face as she gazes up at the neon sign above them. Poppy’s eyebrows scrunch together in confusion as she reads it.
“You brought me to a...Steak N’ Shake? What’s that?” Poppy says.
MC laughs, “I’ll show you. It’s a staple where I’m from.”
The duo walk inside and the only waitress, a disgruntled woman who looks like she’d rather be anywhere then here, seats them at a booth. Poppy glances around the room and takes in the retro red booths and the black and white tile that lines the walls. Chrome lines the edge of the flooring and a metal table separates them.
“Well this is something,” Poppy tells her.
“Listen, back where I’m from it’s either you go to a Steak N’ Shake to hang out or a Walmart. I figured you’d like this more,” MC says.
Poppy looks at her, “Was this where your first date was?”
“No, no. My first date was with a guy who smelt like roasted asparagus,” MC wrinkles her nose, “was stuck next to him for what feels like forever, that stupid movie was way too long.”
“Was he your friend or something?” Poppy tilts her head.
“Tinder,” MC shrugs, “small town where everyone I knew either thought I was ugly or I had already friend-zoned. Wanted to fall in love but my town was too small, so I turned to the internet. Plus, it was much easier to talk to girls on there then in real life.”
“What can I get for you guys?” The waitress materializes and interrupts them.
Poppy looks at MC helplessly and the brunette resists the urge to laugh, “A vanilla shake and a chocolate one, oh and a large fry.”
“That all?” The waitress asks.
MC nods, “Yeah, that’ll be it.”
The waitress nods but her face reads ‘oh fuck, I’m not getting a tip from this table’. MC puts on a terse smile as the waitress turns and leaves before Poppy clears her throat.
“A vanilla milkshake?” Poppy raises an eyebrow.
“I know you don’t like chocolate flavoring most of the time,” MC tells her, “plus, it’s a classic. It was either that or strawberry and I know you’re allergic to those.”
“Wait, you knew that?” Poppy’s eyes widen.
MC reaches across the table and grabs Poppy’s left hand with her own, “I do pay attention, Pop. You mentioned it a few weeks ago when you ordered that salad from that Italian place.”
Poppy smiles again, one of those special, toothy smiles where her eyes light up, “Thank you.”
“Don’t thank me for being a decent human being,” MC waves the compliment off, “you’re my girl, I pay attention to everything you say.”
“Your girl, huh?” Poppy teases.
“I mean, uh, yeah if you’d like to be,” MC rubs circles onto Poppy’s hand, “I really like you, Poppy. And I know it’s only our first date but...”
“No. I like it,” Poppy interrupts, “It has a nice ring to it.”
MC leans across the table and with her free hand she grabs Poppy’s chin and pulls her to her so they can kiss. It’s a chaste and quick kiss, but when MC pulls away she’s smiling. A few minutes later, their food arrives and MC starts to open her straw before she places the straw in her mouth and faces Poppy.
“What are yo-” Poppy starts before MC blows hard on the straw and the wrapper flies into Poppy’s face.
“Got you,” MC giggles and Poppy blinks slowly.
“You’re dead to me, Farmsville,” Poppy says dramatically and pulls her hand away from her girlfriend’s.
MC sticks her tongue out, “Be that way then, fine.”
A beat passes.
“Can I hold your hand again?” Poppy murmurs and if MC wasn’t so close, she wouldn’t have hurt it.
To her credit, MC doesn’t antagonize her as she reaches across the table and intertwines their fingers again. With her free hand, Poppy places her straw in her shake and takes a sip.
“This is good, but why the fries?” Poppy asks.
“Take one and dip it into your shake,” MC says and does it.
“The fuck?” Poppy scowls, “Why would I cross contaminate?”
“Just do it, Princess,” MC tells her.
Clearly biting back a comment, Poppy does as she was told. As she chews on the fry, her eyebrows raise in surprise.
“That’s so good!” Poppy admits and grabs another fry.
“Told you,” MC says in a sing-song voice.
Poppy rolls her eyes but continues munching on fries as MC prattles on about this and that. Every now and then, Poppy makes small comments but lets MC do most of the talking as the two eat. When their cups are empty, MC pays for the meal and they walk back outside.
“You know what Farmsville, I really had a good time,” Poppy smiles.
“Does that mean?” MC waggles her eyebrows.
Poppy presses up on her toes and kisses her cheek, “Yes, you can come back to my room.”
MC yells in glee and picks up the smaller girl to twirl her. Poppy giggles as MC spins her in the air before she gently sets her back on the ground.
“Come on, pretty girl, daylight’s burning,” MC winks and Poppy hits her on the shoulder again as the two walk back to campus, hand-in-hand.
And MC couldn’t have asked for a more perfect night.

What Recipes Use Buttermilk? Delicious and Creative Ideas
Hi there! If you're looking for some delicious recipes that use buttermilk, then you've come to the right place. I'm a big fan of cooking with buttermilk because it adds such a creamy texture and delicate flavor to dishes. It's especially great in baked goods like pancakes and muffins, as well as savory dishes like chicken fried steak. In this article, I'll share my favorite recipes using buttermilk so you can make something yummy for your family tonight. But first, let's talk about what makes buttermilk such an amazing ingredient when cooking. It has all the tanginess of regular milk but is much thicker and richer than its counterpart. Plus, it helps create light and fluffy pastries that will have everyone coming back for seconds (and thirds)! So if you want to whip up something special with a unique flavor profile, then definitely give these recipes featuring buttermilk a try - they won't disappoint! What Is Buttermilk? I've always been fascinated by buttermilk - it's a delicious and versatile ingredient that can be used in many recipes. But what exactly is buttermilk? It's actually made from low-fat milk and contains lactic acid bacteria, which gives it its unique taste. Better yet, it also has some great health benefits: it's packed with calcium, vitamin B12, potassium, phosphorous and riboflavin. The best way to store buttermilk is in the refrigerator or freezer. If you're storing it in the fridge, make sure to use an airtight container so that no outside odors get into your buttermilk. You should also consume any opened containers within 2 weeks of opening them for maximum freshness. Freezing will help extend the shelf life up to 6 months. Buttermilk is a fantastic staple ingredient for cooking as well as baking! Its creamy texture adds richness to pancakes, waffles and muffins while its acidic flavor helps tenderize meats like chicken wings or pork chops. Plus, there are plenty of other uses for this incredible ingredient, including adding depth and complexity to salad dressings and dip sauces. Benefits Of Cooking With Buttermilk Cooking with buttermilk has so many benefits that it's hard to pick just one! Not only does the tangy flavor of buttermilk give recipes a unique and delicious taste, it also packs in plenty of nutritional value. When you use this dairy substitute instead of whole milk or cream, your dishes will be lighter and healthier. Plus, there are lots of different recipes out there that incorporate buttermilk - from pancakes to cakes - making it easy to work into any meal! Buttermilk nutrition is not something to overlook either. This amazing ingredient contains fewer calories than other types of milk while providing more calcium and protein than most plant-based alternatives like almond milks or oat milks. And since buttermilk doesn't contain lactose, those who have difficulty digesting dairy products can still enjoy its health benefits without having to worry about stomach discomfort afterward. In addition, cooking with buttermilk helps promote digestive health by introducing beneficial bacteria into your meals. These friendly microbes help break down food so it can be easily absorbed by your body for nourishment. By using this natural probiotic regularly in your diet, you'll be able to get all the vitamins and minerals needed for optimal wellness every day! Pancakes I love cooking with buttermilk for its creamy texture, and it's especially great in pancakes. It gives pancakes a light, fluffy texture that you just can't get with any other ingredient! Plus, there are plenty of ingredient substitutions if you don't have buttermilk on hand; plain yogurt or sour cream work well too. To make the perfect pancakes using buttermilk, whisk together 1 cup of all-purpose flour, 2 teaspoons baking powder, ½ teaspoon salt, 1 tablespoon sugar and ¼ teaspoon baking soda in a large bowl. In another bowl mix one egg yolk, 1 cup of buttermilk and 2 tablespoons melted butter until combined. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients while stirring continuously to combine them both. Then let the batter sit for 5 minutes so it thickens up slightly before adding it to your preheated skillet. Once your pancake is golden brown on each side, serve warm topped with fresh fruit and syrup - delicious! Buttermilk adds an unbeatable flavor and texture to these classic breakfast favorites that will leave everyone asking for more. Muffins I love baking with buttermilk! It adds a wonderfully creamy texture to whatever I'm making. Muffins are no exception. Not only does it add richness, but the acidity helps activate the leavening agents, like baking soda and baking powder, ensuring perfectly risen muffins every time. There is no need to worry if you don't have any on hand though; there are plenty of substitutions that work just as well. You can use sour cream or yogurt in place of buttermilk for similar results. If neither of those options work for you, there's always adding vinegar or lemon juice to regular milk it will create an acidic solution without having to buy anything special. As far as storage solutions go, it's best to keep your buttermilk refrigerated until ready to use. The shelf life isn’t too long so be sure to check expiration dates before using it in recipes. However, leftover buttermilk stored properly can last up to two weeks after opening the container, allowing enough time for more delicious muffin-making fun! Savory Dishes It's time to spice things up with some savory dishes that use buttermilk! From hearty fried chicken to creamy macaroni salad, there are plenty of recipes you can make with this versatile ingredient. Let's get cooking! Fried chicken is a classic dish made even better when cooked in buttermilk. The tangy flavor adds an extra layer of deliciousness and the combination gives the coating an irresistible crunch. To make it, simply marinate your chicken pieces overnight in a mixture of buttermilk, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Then drain off any excess liquid before dredging each piece in seasoned flour and frying them until golden brown. Macaroni salad is another great way to enjoy the flavors of buttermilk. Start by making a dressing out of mayonnaise, sour cream, lemon juice or white wine vinegar, sugar, parsley flakes, mustard powder or prepared yellow mustard, celery seed or celery salt. Whisk everything together until smooth then slowly stir in 1-2 cups of buttermilk until you reach your desired consistency. Toss with cooked macaroni pasta and diced vegetables like red onions and bell peppers for a side dish everyone will love at your next gathering. No matter what type of meal you're planning to make from breakfast burritos to dinner entrees – don't forget to include buttermilk on your list of ingredients! It'll add a tasty twist to all kinds of recipes sure to satisfy your taste buds every time. Frequently Asked Questions Is Buttermilk Vegan? When it comes to the Current Toipic of whether buttermilk is vegan, the answer isn't a simple yes or no. Buttermilk traditionally comes from dairy products like cows' milk and therefore would not be considered vegan. However, there are some vegan substitutes that can provide similar flavor and texture profiles as buttermilk such as almond-coconut milk blends. If you're looking for dairy free options, consider trying other plant-based milks like oat milk or soy milk combined with lemon juice or white vinegar for a tangy taste. How Do I Store Buttermilk? Storing buttermilk is easy! The best temperature to store it at is in your refrigerator, between 35-40 degrees Fahrenheit. It should be kept on a shelf and can last up to two weeks if unopened. Once opened though, you'll want to use it within 7-10 days for the best quality. Buttermilk can also be frozen - just make sure to take out what you need and thaw it overnight in the fridge before using it again. How Long Does Buttermilk Last? When it comes to storing buttermilk, you'll want to pay attention to cooking times and the shelf life. Buttermilk typically lasts between 7-10 days when stored in a refrigerator, however this can vary depending on how long ago it was opened or purchased. It's important to note that once your buttermilk has been opened, it should be used within 5-7 days for optimal freshness. What Is The Difference Between Buttermilk And Regular Milk? So, what's the difference between buttermilk and regular milk? Well, while both are dairy products, they aren't interchangeable. Buttermilk is a fermented dairy product made from cow’s milk that has been treated with lactic acid bacteria. This process gives it a slightly tart flavor compared to regular milk which has not gone through any fermentation or culturing process. It can also be found in non-dairy options like soy and almond milk too! So if you're looking for a milk alternative or non-dairy option, then buttermilk might just be your new go-to! Are There Any Substitutes For Buttermilk? If you don't have any buttermilk on hand, there are plenty of alternatives that can help bring the same flavor and texture to your recipes. Milk is a great alternative for replacing buttermilk in baking because it provides richness without adding an acidic tang. You could also use sour cream or yogurt as these ingredients have similar acidity levels to buttermilk and will work just as well in most recipes. Finally, if you're looking for vegan options, coconut milk mixed with apple cider vinegar or lemon juice works wonderfully too! Conclusion Yes, buttermilk is vegan-friendly! It's a great way to add flavor and thickness without using animal products. Although it has a shorter shelf life than regular milk, storing it in the refrigerator will help extend its lifespan. The main difference between buttermilk and regular milk is that the former contains more fat content and acidity, making it perfect for baking recipes like pancakes or biscuits. If you're unable to find buttermilk at your local grocery store, there are plenty of substitutes available such as yogurt or sour cream mixed with water that can be used instead. So don't worry if you don't have any buttermilk on hand you still have plenty of options when it comes to creating delicious recipes! Read the full article

Monster Boyfriend!Reader insert!
Female Reader! Shadow boyfriend.
[The reader is nicknames are Angel by the boyfriend and Bo by everyone else]
Another day, another chewing out by your asshole of a boss who as usual promoted the skinny collage girl over you; despite the fact you worked at this office for over five years and kept it running! In your opinion your boss was a misogynistic piece of garbage who believed all woman had the minds of toddlers, that and their only purpose was to be servants/playthings/baby factories to all men. The only reason he promoted this new girl was because he was looking for new eye candy.
It was just your boss who shared this view however, the other members of the office didn’t share their views. All of them were married and had kids, you could feel the unease when the boss made filthy jokes about someone’s daughter…especially when that daughter was only thirteen years old.
The father of this girl was your friend and neighbor Roy, he was tempted to punch his boss senseless but at the moment he couldn’t afford to. He just found out he and his wife were expecting baby number two, his wife worked from home but he always believed in having a safety net.
[Lunch break]
You sat down by Roy and Trevor, he was from accounting and pretended to be a bachelor when he actually dating a very nice young person, they preferred not to be labeled with a gender.
“Hey Bo, heard the boss yelling at ya; what was it about this time?” Asked Trevor opening his lunchbox.
“The account he assigned to the new girl was lost and he’s blaming me despite I had no part in its loss. He just wants to get on the girls good side so he can try an sleep with her…” you mumbled as you pulled out your own lunch.
You weren’t skinny, you were round with curves and a belly. This lead to many comments from your boss but you brushed them off, especially when you got home cooked lunches from your boyfriend. Today’s lunch was as beautiful as before, he got into making those character bento lunchboxes he saw on tiktok. Today’s lunch was fried chicken meatballs with rolled up omelet and little rice balls. The meatballs were decorated to look like hedgehogs, the little rice balls made to look like penguins and the omelets were speckled with green and filled with cheese.
“Lee went all out on that didn’t he?” Retorted Roy with a chuckle, his lunch was a grilled panini he ordered from the shop next door.
“He loves to cook and I love eating his cooking.” You smiled as you chowed down into his creation.
There was a small avocado salad on the side with diced raw onions and a small squirt of hotshots on it. It was a interesting combination but it actually worked out well.
You were about to dig into this salad when your boss walked in, so begins his usual walk around the tables giving comments on everyone’s choice of lunches. Mocking men who didn’t have properly made lunches by their wives or joked about being bachelors. You finished the penguin rice balls when he came your table.
“An what has this group prepared hm?” He leaned over Roy and his sandwich. “Wife not making you lunch anymore, what you two get into a fight again?”
Ugh; you hated how he smirked every time he put someone down, he looked over at Trevor. His lunch was simple homemade steak and cheese wrap his partner made.
“Huh, thats surprising; most single guys don’t know how to cook, where’d you buy that?” Trevor was about to answer but the ass turned to you and eyed your lunch. “Well what does the pig have today? Something that looks decent, bet it tastes like shit though?”
He reached for your food, Roy was the one who pulled it away from him. “Sir, need I remind you that the last time you took someone’s food the CEO of the company came down here to scold you?”
Your boss glared at him but backed off, yes he literally took someone’s food from them and was reported. He managed to play it off as a misunderstanding but it didn’t stop the CEO from chewing him out.
“Fine, let the pig eat her slop.” With that your boss left.
“Thanks Roy…” you sighed, this was going to be a long day…
[A few hours later]
Finally it was time to leave, three’o clock, you got all your things and bolted for the elevator. You made it in time too, you knew your boss came looking for stragglers to do extra work. The doors closed just as he walked into look for anyone; preferably you. But you escaped, you learned when and how to avoid him near the end of the day.
Now piled into your car you, Trevor and Roy all heading back to the same apartment building you shared. Trevor lived on the fourth floor of the apartments while you and Roy were on the second floor, he lived in the apartment across the hallway from you and your boyfriend. You said goodbye to them and walked into your apartment, the money you made was good despite your boss.
You composed yourself before hand and as you were closing the door…you saw your shadow growing, it grew larger, bulkier and once it reached a hight of 9ft…three bio-green eyes appeared; feral and happy.
“Welcome home Angel.”
His large clawed hands picked you up and cradled you in those burly arms, the term ‘broad chest’ didn’t do your darling justice. He had hair but it was so molded to his body it almost looked like a helmet minus the part that hung off. He had what you called an inverted pixie bob, he nuzzled you and peppered your cheek with little kisses. He didn’t have a visible mouth, nose or ears but that only added to his charm.
“Hi Caine, I’m so happy to be home. Lunch was soooo good, I loved those little penguins you made.”
You watched those eyes of his turn into stars as he hugged tightly, you hugged him back….oh you needed this. You needed ‘him’ right now more then anything, just him and his big arms hugging you.
“I’m making pizza tonight, I figured it’d be cheaper then buying it.” He whistled.
“Ooh that sounds good.” You whined happily.
You only had your eyes closed for a moment before you found yourself in your bedroom. He sat you on the bed and proceeded to remove your shoes, what on earth did you do to get a guy this awesome?
“Oh, so you know; Brandy called me and told me about your company throwing a family picnic!”
Right…the picnic, another excuse for that ass of a boss to mock everyone’s lifestyle and show up his wealth. You smiled at him, he loved picnics and meeting all the people you worked with. No way were you gonna say no, but that didn’t mean you weren’t gonna try and stay as far away from your boss as possible.
“Its gonna be a potluck kind of picnic so lets make something yummy together hm?” You smiled as you stood back up and changed into your comfy clothes.
He squealed with glee and whisked you back up into his arms, dinner was delicious and so was dessert. Just simple store bot gelato but still good, the two of you sitting on the couch bing watching documentaries and internet cat videos.
[two weeks later]
The weather was perfect, there was a nice light breeze and there were clouds, lots of them. White, fluffy clouds that casted shadows to shield you from the sun from time to time. Not that it was terribly hot, warm but not hot. You and Cain parked the car under a tree and got out, the company picnic was being held at the local park near the river. It was a very nice place, already you saw many of your co-workers here.
Cain had already delved into your shadow, not out of fear but it was easier to move around crowds. You already saw a few other co-workers who brought their spouses. Mark from HR was one of the few you knew who was dating someone who wasn’t human, his girlfriend was the same height as Cain but unlike Cain she was more mammalian. She was what many called a ‘wendigo’ but she had more of a wolf appearance mostly due to her skull face; her name you recalled is Sophie.
You and Mark had that in common, the two of you love large, adorable creatures that could crush you in their embraces. You watched Mark talk as Sophie filled a plate with ribs and handed them to some other co-workers. You walked over, greeted her and sat down two large bowls. One had your famous fruit salad while the other had Cain’s spicy garlic Parmesan chicken wings.
Cain was about to come out to say hello when everyone was silenced by the tapping on a microphone.
“Everyone, thank you all for coming! I’m so thrilled to see everyone’s bright faces here!”
You gritted your teeth…it was your boss, here it comes. He did this whenever possible, bringing people up and passively insulting them for whatever reason an pass it off as a joke. Well today he was bringing couples up and joking, he already had Roy up there and joked about his family. It was clear Roy wanted to punch the guy’s lights out an you didn’t blame him.
“Thanks Roy for being a great sport, up next…why our own Ms. Bo!”
Well crud..it was your turn, you felt Cain gripping your shoulder but you had no choice. You patted the invisible hand and walked up onto the stage, you saw how he leered at you.
“Well everyone, here she is Miss Bo. Where’s your boyfriend, oh I’m sorry dear I guess the rumors are true men don’t like chubby little bitches like you.”
Uh oh…now he didn’t, you watched your shadow shift and move, steadily growing behind your boss as he continued.
“Any single men out here wanna plow this porker? No? Well thats to be expected, lots of smart men know to stay away-“ the mic was yanked out of his hand, he spun around…only to be face to face with three murder colored eyes.
You reached an took the mic. “Sir, I’d like to introduce you to Cain, my beloved boyfriend of four very happy years. We met in middle school, started dating in collage. Thats all you need to know….Cain put him down please.”
You didn’t need to look, Cain had your boss by the scruff of his shirt, dangling him over the edge of the stage….he relented and sat him down; he turned and took the mic from you.
“An for the record; you call my girl anything other then her name…well..” he exposed his rarely seen mouth, inside were rows of razors ready to tear him apart.
“The last thing you’ll be seeing are these.”
You refrained from saying anything..especially about your bosses soiled trousers.
[later, after the picnic]
Back in your apartment, cuddled on the couch; sitting in his lap with a box of macarons and other sweet treats. You look up at Cain who still seemed a little mad from what he heard.
“Honey its ok, the boss got fired for what he said and we’re getting a new one, its all thanks to you.” You give him a kiss, that seemed to melt the grump off.
“Yeah, though I’m still upset that you went through all those nasty things…”
Oh no the puppy eyes…the sad ‘mama I need love’ puppy eyes. He always got his way when something happened. Last time he did this was when you had you wisdom teeth taken out and you were in pain.
“I know but you know what?”
Cain looks down at you.
“What?”
“You made it worth it, every day I’d come home to the best thing nature ever created.”
You saw stars dance in his sweet eyes as he hugged you tightly, for the rest of the night was filled again with cat videos and documentaries until the two of you slowly drifted off to sleep, you safely tucked into his loving embrace.
End.
[so you know all of this was inspired by the drawings of @semisolidmind and her monster boyfriend series oooh their sooo cute! Semi I hope you like this you inspired this!]
