Soulshipping rambling: Just how does Judai relate to his past life? How does that affect his relationship with Yubel?

Bunch of musing below, now updated with screenshots while I'm reposting stuff that never made it to tags because Tumblr is a functional website. I think this is the last repost but it's gonna be me yelling a lot about these two.

(Also, happy anniversary to these guys! GX episode 155 aired October 3, 2007.)

In their original lives Judai promised Yubel he’d only love them, after Yubel had already voluntarily become a monster dedicated to protecting him. In the present Judai remembers their past lives while Yubel is trying to destroy the universe, tortured into insanity by a combination of his mistake and the Light of Destruction’s corruption.

Before Judai remembers, he only sees Yubel as his mess that he has to clean up - if any emotional attachment remains, it's buried within his memory twice over. But once he remembers, he instantly flips from "you’re evil and deluded and I will stop you at any cost" to "I accept your love (metaphorically), you need healing and I will risk my entire existence to help you."

What exactly is he thinking at that moment when he flips? The decision to fuse with Yubel is about taking responsibility (growing up and redeeming himself for his mistakes) as well as - or even more than - a matter of love (acting on his feelings about Yubel). But also, there’s so many angles to what he’s feeling about those two things, and how much of each factors into exactly why he chooses to fuse their souls.

The flashback to their past lives is brief, less than three minutes of mostly exposition, and you don’t really get a full sense of just how much Judai connects with his past life beyond the line "I remember… They’re me and Yubel in our past lives" (paraphrased) before he watches his past self make that defining promise.

How much does he remember? Does he feel like a continuation of his past life in that moment, or like the next version of the young prince? I feel the answer to that question changes the meaning of his decision to fuse their souls together, in essence ensuring they can’t be separated again as a gesture of love and/or responsibility.

If he feels a sense of continuity with his past self, then that decision is a continuation of that promise to love Yubel, and an as-it-should-be reunion between guardian and guarded.

If he views his past self as someone connected to but separate from himself, then continuing that promise is more of a decision he takes upon himself to stay connected to someone he still feels tied to.

...Or maybe not. Maybe it’s simply a sense of duty to someone he’s hurt, someone he promised to love in another life and feels obligated to love in the present.

How much responsibility does he feel to uphold the vows of his past self? How much responsibility does he feel to heal someone who’s been hurt badly because of his mistakes (which, to be fair, were made because Yubel was attacking his neighbors to begin with)? Complicating this question is the massive sacrifice Yubel made to become what they are, a transformation that persists through lifetimes all for Judai's protection.

Yubel is tied to the past in a way that Judai doesn't have to be. Does this change the nature of what Judai feels toward Yubel? Is loving Yubel Judai's obligation, his nature, or his choice? Can it be multiple of these things, or all three?

You could argue it's none of those things, really; you could say Judai owes Yubel nothing and doesn't care about Yubel at all, but simply fused with them to save his friends and the world. I think that interpretation ignores how Judai's attitude towards Yubel visibly changes once he remembers the true depth of their connection, though, and what that says about how he views them.

But without direct word about what Judai was thinking during this moment, in the end the exact feelings Judai has about Yubel and the fusion are a matter of interpretation and/or headcanon. Regardless, it leaves room for a lot of fascinating questions about how their past bears upon the present...which are never revisited for some reason.

Well, that's what fandom is for I guess. The only value I have to contribute to the GX fandom is yelling about Soulshipping so here I am.

Mr. Wen, our relationship is like that fish. Do you know why? It's strict. WOH, episode 4, part 7. In his speech, WKX wants to provoke some kind of reaction from ZZS. After a while, ZZS replies to WKX that their relationship is like that fish, and does he know why? Because it's strict, which means that they don't know each other. WKX is silent. ZZS continues to say that since they met, he doesn't even know who he is, where he's from, or where he's going. Then he asks who WKX is, where he's from, and where he's going, which ZZS doesn't care about at all. Finally, ZZS adds that WKX has helped them many times, and I thank him for that. However, if WKX is curious and wants to see Bai Yi, he shouldn't waste his words. Hearing what ZZS is saying, WKX starts laughing. He turns to ZZS, telling him Ah Xu and asking why he's so grumpy today. He explains that it's his fault and he shouldn't check on ZZS and hurt him. He adds with emotion in his voice that it hurts him. WKX asks ZZS to forgive him this once because it won't happen again. WKX continues to say that he should ask ZZS what he wanted to know. Finally, he says that his Ah Xu wouldn't lie to him. ZZS is silent, pondering the answer. Suddenly, they are surrounded by a terrifying sound. ZZS and WKX look around, and ZCL covers his ears with his hands. A man hidden among the trees plays a terrible melody on a beautiful instrument. ZZS, WKX, GX and ZCL, surprised by the sound, sit on the river bank. On the boat, WKX, both girls also react badly to the sound. He grabs one of them by the head. ZCL also feels the sound despite his blocked ears, gets up and starts running. Seeing this, GX and WKX get up behind the boy. ZZS sits calmly in his seat, but after a moment he grabs WKX's flute, and WKX and GX try to ease the pain felt by ZCL. ZZS gets up and starts playing a melody on the flute, and WKX watches him carefully. Both sounds collide in the air. The man hidden in the forest continues to play the instrument. The girls on WKX's boat walk around the deck as if in a trance. Both of them, unable to control their bodies, jump out of the boat. ZZS continues to play the flute, and WKX and GX stop ZCL so he doesn't hurt himself. ZZS focuses strongly on the melody being played. The sound of the melody from the flute overpowers the man from the forest, who stops playing and runs away. The terrible melody has stopped, and ZCL drops his hands from his ears. ZZS stops playing the flute. A fragment of the scene where ZZS finally speaks up. It turns out that ZZS can respond just as sharply to WKX's taunts. He makes it clear to the other man that he doesn't want anything to do with him, but also subtly challenges him while thanking him for his help. WKX understood that he started the conversation a bit too hard and apologizes to ZZS. He tries to do everything so that ZZS won't be angry with him. ZZS, on the other hand, has to analyze WKX's words, he wants to know where WKX has such knowledge about Siji Manor and whether he is not a spy for Prince Jin. There is no time to think because all four of them are attacked by a mysterious sound. While WKX is dealing with ZCL, ZZS uses his skills and uses the flute to protect them. His safety no longer matters to him. The conversation that ZZH and GJ have in this scene is exciting, both gentlemen carefully hide their motives and it works out elegantly for them.

I read this one a whiiiiiile back but its like, my fave fic ever, im not even into dresden files i have no idea what happens there but the characters are interesting and the way they all interact is super interesting, the supernatural elements really blend incredibly well and THE DUELS OMG, some yugioh fics dont bother writting duels or just do the minimun but the duels here actually serve a purpose and AUGH its just so good, the author has another 5ds/marvel crossover but i have not read that one yet LOL.

Please… please I would love to hear about your ygo gx thoughts bc I’ve missed hearing about that show…

GX was so good so fucking good, it's my favorite out of the ygo spinoffs that I've watched (5d's and ArcV), it's got so many good characters and it even has a good and satisfying ending, I'm about to be so incoherent in these ramblings

Judai is a great character, he's not my favorite character out of the show but I still love him. Good boy who was so hopeful and friendly (to hide all the trauma) and then ended up having more horrific trauma and having to relearn how to be hopeful and friendly (but in a more genuine way, not simply repressing things as he used to). 10/10 would hug

With my fave being Yubel which you might guess. They were the og problematic fave. I remember being 10 and watching this dragon ruining things for everyone else like hm. I think this may awake a lot of things in me. And I watched the dub as a kid, where they are depicted as a woman, then I found out they are genderqueer in the original version and I was like even more in love. They just have all the things I love. Queer. Dramatic. Obsessive evil bastard. Mental health issue. Dragon.

And there's so many other quality characters. Steve Irwin with a whole crocodile and a magic eye whose powers are never actually elaborated upon at any point. Burned out former straight A student who did what everyone in academia eventually wishes aka become a BDSM emo and start electrocuting people. A dude who is also a dinosaur through a plot twist even Jurassic Park would never dream of. This show was throwing all the wildest concepts at us and it was fucking beautiful

But like. The thing is. Yes the character concepts were wild. Yes you had to employ a lot of suspension of disbelief at times even for a ygo show. But the character development was also so so good? And not just for the main character and maybe one or two other guys, but so many got their development! Manjoume, Shou and Kaiser, Asuka, they all got their season four spotlight to see their new goals, and even side characters like O'Brian got their small moments. Seeing them all go their ways was so beautiful

Ships are also damn good. Judai/Yubel/Johan polycule is very good. Also I can't get over the fact that this gay throuple is technically kind of canon in a very fucked up way. Most of the couples ygo wants you to ship are the hint hint nudge nudge flavor of straight shonen couples that never gets too explicit, but then GX season 3 gives you love triangle between two guys and one's guy genderqueer jealous ex who is also a dragon. Insane

Other good ships: Judai/Manjoume (hell yeah rivals), Edo/Kaiser (hell YEAH rivals), O'Brian/Jim (hunk boyfriends), Jim/Kenzan (fossil boyfriends), actually can we go for the ultimate muscle and ship O'Brian/Jim/Kenzan? But yes lots of shipping potential

Anyways it's kind of annoying there isn't a lot for GX on ao3, or at least there wasn't last I checked. There is so much fic potential. Maybe ffnet might have more, it usually does for old fandoms, but ffnet's interface frustrates me. Plus the fact that GX was kind of badly received, what with being the first spinoff, might have just cut out the number of fanworks even later on

It really is a pity tho that GX was unpopular at first. It's a really good series, it's almost a bit too goofy at first but the change in tone in later seasons is great, plus fitting too considering that it is a kind of coming age thing, all these high schoolers starting out full of hope and naivety and then getting trauma for it. The fact that it's also the only spinoff that has strong ties to DM gives it so much potential. I mean, does Manjoume's family have any particular ties to Kaiba corp? Which and how many of the GX kids would one day meet Yugi, or the rest of the DM gang? What if Judai on his travels ends up meeting people like the Ishtars? For that matter, did the Ishtars know about the multiple dimensions or the Supreme King? Because if anyone from DM was going to be aware of all the things we discover in GX, it would have been them

TOPIC: One Tough Cookie…Never Break Character, Flawless Integrity since the Year I was Born

Remembering the quote from my biological father, Mr. Manley Rochelle Nolen, "It does not matter where you are in the world." and my 2021 thought rebuttal, "You made a difference already the day you were born, life wants to see you do it."

I tried to get my money back regarding Lyft's CitiBike, but only was able to get a partial refund. I learn the new rules regarding credit and debit cards are put in place regarding 90 days or less to get refund and the responsibility is to work with the merchant first and second tries, then the bank or credit card company for the third try. There are most likely no refunds after sixty (60) days.

It was tax time again to file my Internal Revenue Service (IRS). I always file it paper because it does something to and overrides the another party that files as well.

I explored WeWork office location at 200 Berkeley St. I got the full tour plus they do mail and printing, too. They lacked storage lockers for the lower memberships. They did offer plenty for office space and open workspace. I explored based on the reason of potentially having another office job or desk job. I was ready, but the job offers never panned out.

I researched and purchased Warner Bros. Mortal Kombat 11 for my PC and smartphones, and watched the movie.

I saw a new book and skimmed through named, "The Power of Habit." Charles Duhigg (he went to Yale and Harvard). I never purchased the book because if you read through my blogs and see how I tried to be apart of them, the ivy leagues did not let me in so I began disconnecting and stop supporting or throwing my money at the ivy leagues ecosystem. I cannot stop all of it, but the ones I can read or see the credentials.

I met with Crunch Fitness Regional GX Manager to possibly teaching there and the new locations. The Regional GX Manager gave the encouragement to get NASM AFAA Group Fitness Instructor certification. I renewed my membership with Planet Fitness, but added Crunch Fitness because of the ability to bodybuild or powerlift with higher weights and group fitness classes. The Regional GX Manager stated Crunch did not accept IFTA certificates.

I took advantage of the Planet Fitness's Rockbot. The staff and I had fun liking and disliking each other's song played. I went through almost the entire catalog of songs, especially holiday themed stuff and Sunday/Saturday had the gospel. Every Massachusetts Planet Fitness knew I was in the building when I came in with Kelis 'Milkshake', Megan Thee Stallion 'Body', Justin Bieber 'Yummy', Drake 'Sticky', Shakira 'Waka Waka', or Martin Solveig '+1', 'Do It Right' and 'Places'

When Walmart is unavailable, of course, I go to the local Target in Boston or Cambridge. CVS Pharmacy always get me with the coupons in email and on the app.

I had to temporarily serve as a process server for Defendants in lawsuits. Cook County Sheriff's office plus ProofServe helped served the Chicago area of Defendants. I did like the electronic automation system. ProofServe also helped served the Boston area of Defendants. ProofServe was darn sure cheaper than ABC Legal, which tried have you make a mortgage or car payment to have someone served, thus maxing out my DiscoverCard.

I had a dental appointment with Trinity Dental, but from the dental exam I could not get my teeth cleaning because of long-term infections, but had really good tooth pulled (extracted) for one infection and still not teeth cleaned. I was referred to a specialist for dental work I did not want to examine how get the other long-term infection (root canal).

MGH Psychiatrist Thoughts: Do I have any thoughts on running for Mayor or President of the United States?

Obama, Kamala, and African-American/minority leaders are paving the way and making it more realistic. I know I have the skills and talent to do the position, but to make it real for me - for Mayor, I need one (1) million solid supports and voters or 70% of the entire voting rolls, plus 1 million dollars to run so that is $1.00 per person. For Governor, I need 70% of the entire voting rolls and $10.00 per voter. For President, I need solid 100 million voters to assure the win and $100 million dollars to start fundraising, which is $1.00 per person. This would make it realistic for me in The United States of America. I need my education debt paid for because I cannot or plan to go to Harvard University in getting more debt.

Otherwise, my realistic plans is my reality to do France and rise through the ranks to the Elyees Palace with family and all. I am not dumb, but only try once. France is my current focus. I can let go my rage and anger against America or the emotions created from life experiences.

After seeing candidates go into debt for position, I will never do.

I signed up for a Cannabis Delivery Driver, but they did not allow footwalkers or bike so you had to have a vehicle with insurance.

I had to renew my MassHealth (BMC Community Health Plan) with Massachusetts Department of Transition Assistance.

I donated to Massachusetts General Hospital, St. Francis House, and Pine Street Inn.

I did not win the Massachusetts VaxMillions giveaway, but registered.

I had my second Federal Express Fitness for Duty Evaluation.

I participated with Centers for Disease Control VAERS and vaccine safety programs in giving feedback on the COVID-19 vaccination process.

card technology and how LDS basically owns the market on not only real solid vision systems but also cards

this is gonna be a wordy post and i apologize in advance. ok first off i just wanna say i am probably the only person who thinks about this shit but i find world stuff and the like interesting to think about. call me obsessed, idc, ive watched arc v 5 times and i just really wanna share this.

it is canon that standard did not start with the other summoning methods, that they are relatively new. we arent ever told what cards are made out of specifically- but considering past shows and their connection to spirits we can assume they arent just simply cards. EX- gx and the crystal beast cards being made from actual gems.

for arc v, id say its the ‘energy signature’ of a card. reiji is shown to have technology that is able to read energy and also tell what kind of energy it is. He also uses a machine to copy pendulum monster cards and they are similar to the originals but not exactly the same. so either the ‘energy’ is the monster spirit itself, or its the magic nonsense that allows it to summon said spirit. either way- a card is not simple to make in the universe.

so that begs the question- how did LDS manage to get the other summoning methods?

well its shown that LDS actually has dimension hopping technology, though it seems rough and unfinished, i have no doubt reiji tried to use it again after his initial teleport to academia. whether he went there physically or not idk, but i theorize he was able to capture or hone in on the cards of those dimensions and copy them the same way he copied yuyas pendulum monsters.

except the LDS fusion/xyz/synchro cards are all weaker than the originals because he probably had limited data.

for fusion its easy to back this up since, anyone from standard who uses fusion doesnt actually use a regular ‘polymerization’ card- because reiji wasnt able to copy it one for one... (your probably thinking- what about kachidoki? well ill get back to that)

Even other characters like yuya, yuzu, and reiji himself are shown to not actually be able to use ‘polymerization’ more than once. standard users who have fusion monsters rely on other methods such as deck themed fusion cards, monster effects, or in the case of reiji: contract cards

this extends to the other methods too but in more subtle ways. hokuto is only able to xyz summon after changing his monsters levels, yaiba can only synchro summon using effects that treat monsters like tuners (both him and gon only have one tuner in their decks at the start) you could also argue that the fact they are missing ‘rank up’ cards or any support magic cards for synchro monsters as another way in which standard made xyz/synchro are weaker.

so- where the fuck am i going with this? well LDS is shown to be the only thing with access to these other cards. its not clear, but it looks like using the method can take a toll on the users body and i do not know if thats a matter of energy needed to summon a monster and having to train ones body or what but-

these cards are not easy to make, and there are limited copies in stock.

other summoning method cards are expensive to buy in standard. why am i saying this? well one- yu show duel school is shown to not have access to any, shuzo himself says hes never used the cards, and its possible that its because he cant afford it. none of the other schools in the tournament use other summoning methods. that is except...

kachidoki and his school.

not only that, but they also have a regular ‘polymerization’ card. your probably thinking this is where all this falls apart. but think about it- ryozanpaku is shown to be probably the second most popular and highest grossing duel school. its not a stretch to think they PAID LDS a hefty sum of money for their own stock of cards. and what did LDS give them? their first copies of the ‘polymerization’ cards. they are weaker but relatively work the same- but most of the students still rely on it AND monster effects.

but if thats the case- if these cards cost so much and only LDS has access to them... not only do they now own that market, theyve basically created a huge gap and money cap for players of the game in standard. people arent gonna wanna go to a duel school that does not have the means to teach them these other methods of play. standard summoning becomes a laughing stock- no one can win with just standard summoning! duel schools start going out of business because they simply lack students. LDS and only a FEW other schools remain and all of them focus on those methods- not standard summoning...

LDS has complete and total control of the market.

of course arc v doesnt show us if anywhere else in the standard dimension has this tech but if we’ve seen anything from reira- its quite likely japan is the most advanced in this field, as weapons and cards seem to go hand in hand because of their innate power to destroy... ANYWAYS

what does this mean for the game in standard? well if things kept going how they were its quite possible the level of entry into the game becomes so high that you have to be born with privilege to even have a chance at grabbing a spot and not being immediately kicked out.

but something more interesting- and the real like theory part i guess is... when something becomes too expensive to get- ppl start making knock offs. people start making fake cards, some of them work on the duel disk- others do not, but the older the card the easier to copy and cheat the duel disk code. suddenly theres a bunch of copies of strong ishijimas cards, or even yusho’s cards. (thats how the bully managed to make an exact replica of strong ishijimas deck)

theres just a group of people now who just dont even use duel disk and just play on mats- denounce the new summoning method and actively hate what the game has become- but its still seen as lesser... and still other methods cannot be copied.

theres no real end to this theory beyond the fact that this shit is kinda messed up and mirrors shit in our world to an eerie point but like... uh i hope you enjoyed this? i like thinking of the game duel monsters in the world of arc v instead of the normal ass card game that it is irl so-- uh yeah pls tell me what you think about this and add on to it if you have something to share! sorry for the long post--

Ranking the six main boy/girl ships in Yu-Gi-Oh from best to worst!

Not all main girl ships are created equally, I'm afraid. Let's take a look at each ship and see what's up! (Except Sevens because as I mentioned in a previous post, I am way too far behind to comment on anything in that show.)

First up is Anzu and Yugi! And YES I do ship them! However, I don't ship Atem and Anzu. Anzu was friends with Yugi, and started to see him in a different light when Atem started showing up. However, those changing feelings also started to influence her feelings about Yugi as well. We saw that in Duelist Kingdom. Then in season 2 when she realizes they're two separate people, she gets really confused! Anzu doesn't know how to feel anymore! Then Atem and Yugi are both playing wingman for each other, so that's not helping matters. I don't really ship Atem and Anzu because Atem just doesn't seem super interested in their date. I know he had other things on his mind, but if they wanted me to ship it, now was the time to show off some chemistry and they didn't.

We saw in GX that Yugi grows up to look just like Atem and he also grows more confident over the course of the series. After the end of Duel Monsters, I think they're both too hurt by Atem's passing to be digging on each other. But, distance makes the heart grow fonder, and I feel like she's gonna come back from the states and have some heart-pounding feelings when she sees him again. And Yugi's feelings didn't change, they were just put on the back burner. So hopefully when they meet back up, sparks are gonna fly! At least, I hope so. <3

Next up is Asuka and Judai! When I watched their first duel, I was 100% on board with this ship. They were cute, they had great banter, it was a fair fight. I loved it! But over the course of the series, I started losing interest in their relationship, fast. By the end of season 2 I was pretty convinced they had abandoned Asuka x Judai for Asuka x Manjoume, and honestly, I was 100% on board with that, I love a good romcom couple and those two have dysfunctional romcom energy. Plus they had evil power couple vibes when they were running the Society of Light together, so I thought for sure they were gonna have Manjoume and Asuka be better friends post possession.

Then season 3 came a long and I was like "woah, they DID do that on purpose! I was right!" when we saw the Judai x Johan x Yubel love triangle they spent the entire season on. Asuka and Manjoume were of course relegated to background characters, as was everyone who wasn't a transfer student. And then the series ended with a pretty definitive Judai x Yubel ending and I was like "cool I like it".

But then season 4 made me question everything by making it clear that Asuka was still crushing on Judai?!?! Uhhh.... what? You haven't mentioned this crush in OVER TWO YEARS ASUKA. You've both changed so much! I thought the whole point was "she had a fleeting crush on him in year 1, but people change and so do our feelings"! I thought they had her fall out of love with him on purpose!! You're telling me the writers just wanted us to ASSUME she was still in love with him this whole time?!

I honestly love the whole "had a crush on him, now that I know him better, he's an amazing friend but I don't like him that way anymore" dynamic and they RUINED IT so bad. And for what? To say "well they fought the whole time, but now look! They can tag duel together!" Well, jokes on them, because a few episodes later Judai and Johan will show off some of the tightest teamwork in the show and I'll have to throw Asuka x Judai in the trash. </3`

Yusei x Aki!!!!!! AHHHHHH I LOVE THEM. Their first duel is very romantic in my opinion. Yusei lives to help people, and it's actually a flaw of his that he'll help people no matter the cost. Usually that's sort of a "who cares" flaw in a protagonist, but for Yusei, it adds a lot of depth to his character. The reason he helps people even at the cost of himself is because he feels enormously guilty due to his parents' involvement in Zero Reverse, and he feels like he owes the world (but especially Satellite) everything. Yusei tried to go to jail in Kiryu's stead, but failed, and I think that only compounded his guilt even more.

Then, when Yusei sees the chance to help Aki, he does it. He's scared of her, but he rallies his courage to face her so that he can help her. And it's only natural that Aki would fall hopelessly in love with him after he continually put himself at risk over and over again JUST to help her. I love the episode where she rescues him from being kidnapped and then accompanies him on a riding duel. I think it hits me harder because it reminds me of how much I want to drive a motorcycle but can't because of reasons I won't go into. But part of her desire to learn to riding duel is because she wants to feel the same things Yusei feels. And that's so cute!

Unfortunately, I do have a certain headcanon that gets in the way of my shipping desires. I won't get into the whole headcanon, but I think Yusei might have ended up time travelling back in time to fix Zero Reverse and prevent Zone's future. And Aki wouldn't have come with him because we see her in the flashforward. Yusei is still giving her strength though. And I like to think that maybe a much older Yusei was able to help a much younger Aki control her powers and not enter a cult in the new timeline. And if my headcanon isn't true, then GET MARRIED AND HAVE BABIES GUYS. <3

On the one hand, I love Kotori x Yuma. They’re so adorable! Not only is Kotori surprisingly self-aware of her crush (usually the YGO girls love to deny it) but Yuma clearly treats her differently from the rest of his friends, even though he doesn’t know why (yet). Kotori’s confession at the end of the show is SO CUTE AND ADORABLE and Yuma accepts and I love it!

But… I can’t love it as much as I WANT to love it. Kotori’s character, especially in Zexal II is kind of boring. I liked her a lot in Zexal I actually. I thought it was fine to have a character not duel as long as she was doing something else. In season 1 she occasionally gets shit done. Or she’s there for comic relief like when she’s riding the duel coaster. Or arguing with Orbital 7. It wasn’t much, but it was something. In season 2, she’s a total non-entity. I thought the duel where she gets possessed was very funny, but I almost wish that her getting possessed by a Barian was played for drama rather than laughs.

I think what could have been cool is either a) after she can hear Astral, her and Astral team up for a duel or b) when watching Yuma she started to memorize his strategies. Or both. Or neither, just get this girl something to do BESIDES watch Yuma! In the end, my love for how adorable these two are is always somewhat soured by Kotori’s squandered potential. <3

Speaking of squandered potential, Yuzu and Yuya are next on the list. I love these two A TON! I’ll be perfectly honest and admit my biases here, I am NOT the biggest fan of Arc-V. The show had a lot of problems, and I’m harsher on it than most.

But one thing I really did like about the beginning of the show was Yuzu! She was independent, driven and her dueling was getting better as the show progressed. Just like Kotori, she became a non-entity in the latter seasons. However, I ship Yuya x Yuzu more than I ship Yuma x Kotori because Yuya was always keeping Yuzu in mind during the latter seasons. So it still felt like the ship was in focus, whereas with Kotori x Yuma, the ship kind of disappeared since more important things were going on. For Yuya, nothing was more important than getting Yuzu back, so really I had no choice BUT to ship it. How could I not? It was so sweet! She was his whole world! I wish we got more scenes with the two of them together though. Them never tag dueling is a crime against humanity. Also its total BS that only Yuya and Yuzu got to come back, but whatever, I guess. I was happy that the two of them reunited and even HAPPIER that the show was finally over. <3

Last and basically least, Yusaku x Aoi. Or Playmaker x Blue Maiden. I’ll be honest, I don’t ship this at all. The show doesn’t go through any effort to get us invested in their so-called “relationship” and if I had watched this show on its own, unaware of the series’ tropes, I wouldn’t have assumed they were a “ship” at all. With Judai x Asuka, I actually liked the fake out (at least until S4 when I wondered whether or not the fake out was actually on purpose or if the writers are just morons) but with Yusaku x Aoi I get frustrated because it wouldn’t have been that hard to GIVE them some chemistry. They’re both interesting characters, and I think Aoi and Yusaku could have had an interesting dynamic if Aoi had learned Playmaker’s identity a lot sooner.

What I think the show should have done was have Aoi discover Playmaker and Soulburner’s identity at the same time they discovered each other. Then have Aqua come into the fold a lot earlier. Trios are popular in fiction for a reason, and I think Yusaku, Takeru and Aoi would have been an excellent trio. Specifically, with both Yusaku and Aoi being so reserved, their relationship would be very understated. But that’s not a bad thing. It just means that the writers would have to put more focus on the little things. Like, maybe after a while of being friends, Yusaku sits next to her in class. That would be a small thing for other people, but for those two, that’s huge! I could also see there being a fun episode where Ai tries to trick them into going on a date but fails spectacularly. The two of them end up spending time together to foil the plan. That could be really cute! LITERALLY ANYTHING is better than NOTHING.

I guess what I’m trying to say is that I don’t ship this because the writers thought they could get me to ship it just by having boy meets girl and then having them shake hands over a hundred episodes later. And no. I refuse. I need a LITTLE more than that, please and thank you. </3

That was a very long post! All in all, 4/6 ain’t bad at all! Or maybe it’s more like a 3.5 since I only gave Kotori and Yuma a small heart? It doesn’t really matter, I’m a multishipper. At my heart and soul, I’ll ship anything. Like I said I don’t ship Judai and Asuka, but I totally have shippy fanart of them on my phone, lol. It’s more like… which of these ships would I defend in court and which ships do I only like because I’m trash that’ll ship anything?

Oh, I guess I did title this as a ranking... Well, I'm sure you can figure out my most and least favourites by how much I used caps lock, so it should be fine.

((I got intrigued about how Atticus might feel insecure about his and Alexis’ relationship after graduation. He’s always been the big brother to provide comfort and support, so what will he do when she spreads her wings. Plus I finally get to introduce Ms Mutou to GX Month))

To call Ms Mutou’s Office and Office was a bit of a stretch.

It was a decent sized room, probably an old classroom before that part of the building became Offices. She had a few beanbags and large cushions lying to one side and a few coffee tables amongst them. On the other side were a few tables and chairs and a station that provided coffee, tea and biscuits.

The truth is Ms Motou’s office wasn’t much of an office at all. But a room she had created for students to wind down in and relax as duelling could be stressful. So they could read, take a nap, play quieter games or duel without disks. There was also a spot called the confidentiality corner for students to vent their troubles to the young teacher. She couldn’t guarantee advice, but sometimes they just wanted someone to listen.

Today the office was on the empty side. Students were busy preparing for their final exams, and her adoption litter had gone no contact with her after her stunt with Dyspia. To be honest, she didn’t blame them. Sending her kids to a nightmare dimension where they had to confront the worst of themselves just to settle a petty squabble between friends probably was a bit extreme. Her cousin, Christina, had made it very clear she wasn’t speaking to her, and Megan said no hugs for a week. Even Mako said, “Leysa, I love you, but that was too far….”

So, needless to say, she was surprised when she saw Atticus was slated for a session in her confidentiality corner.

She had just finished making her tea when Atticus walked into the office

“Full disclosure, I’m still pissed off at you about the Dyspia thing”, The third year started, “but I need to get something off my chest and didn’t know where else to go.”

“You’ve come to the right place!” Leysa gestured for the other to take a seat “what seems to be the problem, Atticus?”

“It’s about Lexi…” Atticus sighed. “She’s excelling in all her classes and knows exactly what she wants to do after school, and knowing her, she’s going to be very successful….”

Leysa failed to see what the problem was. “And how does that make you feel?”

“I don’t know— I mean, I was convinced I was going to make it as a big musician, but now I’m not sure… some people would argue I’m past my prime. I mean, I’m 19 now….”

“I’m pretty sure 19 isn’t past your prime, Atticus. I mean, Guilmon Deltora didn’t make it big until he was 35, so you still have time…” Leysa assured. “Besides, didn’t you mention you wanted to be on reality TV? Anyone of any age can get stardom in that industry!”

She really didn’t want to encourage Atticus to be on Reality TV, but she was trying to cheer him up right now.

“I mean, yeah, but that’s not the problem… I guess… do you have any idea what it’s like to have a sibling that’s so much more popular and famous than you?”

“Atticus, my twin brother is Yugi Mutou”, Leysa deadpanned. “I have a fair idea.”

“Oh shit”

“You forgot?”

“Yeah”

“It’s cool. I’m used to it, continue?”

“Ok, right!” Atticus took a deep breath. “I guess I’m just anxious because well… Lexi is going to do so well in life and as a result she… she isn’t going to need me anymore… I’ve always watched her, protected her, encouraged her, but lately she’s been pushing me away, and I’m worried one day… she won’t want me in her life.”

Leysa slammed her hands on the table.

“Ok, Atticus! I know I’m overbearing but listen up. As someone who is the little sister, I can assure you there are times when I still turn to Yugi for advice. When we were living in separate countries, I would still call him when I was insecure! But this is not about me. This is about you and Lexi, and I assure you that she will still want you around, even need you around! She’s going to need someone to vent her problems too, someone’s shoulder to cry on, and someone to stand by her no matter what.”

“B-but doesn’t she have her friends for that?” Atticus asked, still not convinced.

“Ok, let me put it this way. Do you have any idea what Alexis went through to find you? She had sleepless nights, interrogated everyone she could, risked death several times and then visited your bedside every single day! Because she missed you, she loved you, and she wanted you to come home!” Leysa sighed “if you don’t believe me, then how about talking to her….”

“Wow… Lexi never told me any of that….” Atticus mumbled. Looking at his feet. “She did that?”

“All of it and more!”

“Wow…” Atticus sighed. Now he felt like a butt. “I’m going to go talk to her….”

“Good idea. Why not go to the secret hang out spot! Use the old swing of memories!”

“Good idea… thanks, Ms M… still mad at you, though.”

“I know!”

Alexis was confused about why Atticus had invited her to the secret lake where the adoption litter usually met up. But at the same time, it was nice for them to catch up alone as siblings.

“Lexi! Glad you could make it!!”

“Atti!!” Alexis smiled “so what’s the occasion?”

“I… I guess I wanted to play the swing of memories card… I wanted to do the big brother thing just a bit longer!” Atticus said quietly.

“A bit longer? What do you mean?” Alexis asked, confused.

“Well, you’re going to the pro leagues, aren’t you? Once you do that, you’ll be big and famous and successful. You won’t need to rely on me anymore.”

“As Megan always says, that’s bull hockey!” Alexis scoffed.

“W-what do you mean!?”

“Atticus, you idiot, I’ll always need you!” Alexis sighed and pulled her big brother into a hug. “You’ve always been there for me and believed in me… I don’t know what I’d do without you!”

“I’m sorry, Lexi….” Atticus sighed and hugged back. “I didn’t mean to make you upset….”

“It’s ok, Atticus… just know you’ll always be my big brother, and I’ll always need you!”

“I’ll always need you too, Alexis!!” Atticus teared up, “after hearing everything you went through for me… I hope you know how much you mean to me, and I can’t wait to see you make it big in the pro leagues….”

Alexis teared up too and hugged him again. Eventually smiling and turning to the old swing hanging from the tree. “Hey, do you want to…”

“Oh, absolutely!”

Alexis sat on the swing, and Atticus stood on it with one foot on either side of her. “Let’s go!”

Alexis kicked her feet, and whoosh, they were off. Free in the air as the sunset, the two of them giggling and sharing memories and making the most of their time together.

Principal Samejima knew that something had changed.  It had been a week already since the vast majority of his students had returned from that other world.  They'd told him what they could about what happened.  He knew that Juudai would return, sooner or later.  He had faith in that young man, who had already accomplished so very much. 

His attention dropped to the potted plant that concealed his favored hiding place for the Sangenma.  He'd hoped that when the students returned that so would they.  Yet there hadn't been a sign of them either.  No one knew where they were, though Johan Andersen had given his opinion that they still remained in the possession of Yubel.

That worried Samejima more than he wished to express.  While a human could not play those cards without them draining the life-force of all the spirits in the vicinity, a creature like Yubel had no such limitations.   From what O'Brien and Johan had been able to tell him, Yubel certainly controlled the three cards effortlessly. What could come of that, he had no idea.

But something had changed.  He'd heard a loud noise from outside but by the time he'd reached the window, whatever it was couldn't be seen.  He considered his options, then decided as Principal, he needed to go see what it was himself.  Straightening his jacket, he headed out with a decisive step.

When he stepped out of the main doors of the building, he saw something he truly hadn't expected.  Or in fairness, someone that he hadn't expected.

"Juudai-kun?"  He regarded the young Osiris Red as Juudai approached.  "You've returned?"  He knew what his eyes told him but he wasn't going to rule out the possibility of someone somehow pretending to be Juudai.   It wouldn't be at all the first time that illusions or shapeshifters or what all turned up.

But that brilliant smile told him otherwise - though he thought perhaps it's brilliance dimmed a trifle.  He'd heard what had happened in the other world, and he had a good idea of who else looked out from the world alongside of Juudai. He didn't let his guard down for a moment.

"Hey, Principal Samejima."  Juudai greeted with a wave.  "It's been a while." 

Samejima agreed.  He could see Marufuji Shou lurking not that far away, looking far happier than he had in the last week.  That definitely helped him believe this was truly Juudai.  "It's good to see you again." 

"Glad I got back."  Juudai shook his head for a second, then squared up his shoulders.  "There's something I need to give you.  Well, something someone needs to give you anyway."  His eyes flicked to one side and for a heartbeat, Samejima thought that he saw them flicker in two different colors.  

Then a tall creature stood there, a strange mix of dragon and demon, wings spread out over Juudai, arms folded over their chest. It had been ages since he'd seen even a picture of the card, but he knew who this was at once - Yubel.  The stories the others told had been very clear about what the powerful spirit looked like. 

"Yubel."  He wasn't sure if he said it with fear or respect.  Shou-kun hadn't said much about the final duel, only that Juudai ended it in some fashion and then 'went off on a journey to become a man'.  He'd suspected - but he'd had no evidence until now.

Juudai nudged the spirit lightly, a fond little smile on his lips.  "Go on.  Do it."

Yubel sighed a great and deep sigh before holding out their hand.  In it there rested three cards.  Samejima took a moment before he understood what they were, then quickly took them.  "The Sangenma..."

Juudai nodded, then nudged Yubel again.  Yubel glowered at him, but not in a way that made Samejima fearful for his student.  It really looked more like a pair of old and close friends, or even - even - well, he'd never thought of that before.

He shook his head to clear his mind before Yubel spoke.

"I took them to facilitate finding my beloved Juudai again.  I - should not have."  It seemed as if the words were being wrung out of them.  Samejima had no idea himself of what to say. 

"Thank you,"  he managed, tucking them into a pocket.  He would return them to their hiding place in due course.  For now, he glanced to Juudai.  "Is there anything else that you need right now?"

"Not now.  I just want something to eat and some sleep.  Tome-san's still awake, isn't she?"  Juudai wondered as Yubel faded away, clearly not thrilled with speaking to people.

"I believe so."  Samejima agreed.  Even if she wasn't, she would gladly have gotten up to fix Juudai something.  That was just the kind of person that she was.

Those eyes I saw before.  Those were Yubel's eyes.  In Juudai's face.  He didn't want to think about this a great deal.  He'd suspected something would happen that would bring Yubel back into Juudai's life sooner or later, but he still wasn't sure about all the details of what had happened, and he wasn't sure if he wanted to know.  He would figure it out later, perhaps.   For now, it was getting late, and he had a very full day coming far too soon.

Juudai nodded and raised one hand in farewell before turning and heading away, Shou joining him before he'd gone too far.  Samejima watched the two of them until they were hidden by the curve of the path, then turned and headed inside.  He could feel the weight of the Sangenma in his pocket and wanted them back into their sanctuary as quickly as he could.  He didn't have the talent to see spirits that others did, but he could feel their regard on his back no matter what.

Sometimes he wished there was someone else who could guard them, but he didn't know if even someone like Juudai could keep their power properly contained.  He didn't want to find out that any number of spirits died because of being in the wrong hands.  It had already come close to happening once before.  Perhaps it had been just as well that when they were stolen this last time, it was when they were in a world where their powers could be contained by other means. It could have been far, far worse.

At least Juudai had returned now.  Whether it were possible for Marufuji Ryou or Amon Garam to do so remained to be seen.  Though also from what he'd heard from Edo Phoenix, few people would miss Amon Garam if he didn't return.

But I will have to explain this to his family.  Garam Finance would not be easy to deal with.  He wondered if he could get Juudai to help with that. 

But that remained in the future.  For now, he headed to return the Sangenma to their proper resting place, and get on to his.  Tomorrow was a school day.

Notes: I actually do not find Samejima to be the useless idiot fanon likes to portray him as. I could go on and on why he does what he does, but the gist of it is, he’s fully aware of who Juudai is and always has been, and wants him to be a mature person capable of fulfilling his destiny to save the world. A destiny that he would have regardless of what Samejima did.

@yugirl made a ship meme for connectionshipping and I wanted to make one for galileanshipping.

Galileanshipping is a GX/5Ds polyship created by @kitsunephantom09 and myself, involving Jaden/Judai Yuki x Bastion/Daichi Misawa x Yusei Fudo x Jack Atlas. “Galilean” comes from the Galilean moons of Jupiter for which there are four major ones: Io, Europa, Ganymede, and Callisto.

Io is a moon covered in active volcanoes. Much like Jack’s Burning Soul. Europa is a moon covered in ice, much like Yusei’s Stardust Dragon and his calming yet cool demeanor. Ganymede, though another icy moon, is the largest and has the greatest magnetic pull. Much like Jaden, it draws attention and has a surface that retains both cold and hot. Callisto is the second largest moon, and yet does not retain the magnetic pull from Jupiter. It is outside the connection and therefore is not affected by tidal heating. It, too, is the most heavily cratered moon. Much like Bastion, it is alone and apart, scarred from years of abandonment, yet it is the most helpful, considered to be the best habitable moon for human life.

With the Galilean moons, the ship was created, giving a tie to the movement of space and time.

Who made the first move;

Technically it was an equal part from Jaden and Yusei. Jaden and Bastion were already in a relationship just as Yusei and Jack were. Yusei and Jaden met in BBT, and never forgot one another. Soon, they wanted to involve their current lovers, so Jaden and Yusei brought them all together and spoke honestly, telling the two they wanted to form a poly relationship.

Who said ‘I love you’ first;

Between Bastion and Jaden, Jaden said it first. Since returning from the Spirit World, he’s had a greater appreciation for people and those who stuck by his side, as well as those who suffer from their own darknesses. He learned to see Bastion and to learn from him, eventually forming into a deep love that couldn’t be contained.



Between Yusei and Jack, Jack said it first in an annoyed rage. They ended up together soon after that.

Between Yusei and Jaden, Yusei said it first. After bending time to see each other once more, Yusei found himself just unable to let Jaden go. He told him in full earnest emotions that he loved him and wanted him to stay in his era.



Between Yusei and Bastion, Yusei said it first. Yusei fell deeply in love with Bastion’s calculating thoughts, his need to write formulas, and his beauty and intelligence. It sort of just came out of his mouth, watching Bastion write his thoughts down upon the wall. And he just opened his mouth to compliment his ideas, but a ‘I love you’ came instead. Bastion didn’t talk to Yusei for a week, too flustered to even look him in the eye properly.



Between Bastion and Jack, it was Bastion. Their relationship starts off rocky, not as committed as the others are. But after some time, Bastion and Jack find they have a mutual affection for each other. Jack doesn’t know how to label it. Bastion does, and after a heated fight, Bastion states that he doesn’t want bad blood between them because he loves Jack. And from there on out, their relationship got better.

Between Jaden and Jack, they don't remember who said it first. They just seem to have said they loved each other always.

How often do they fight;

They have petty fights, small things that irk them that cause annoyance and talks. Yusei and Bastion are ones who want to talk everything out while Jaden and Jack are much more inclined to physical relief. Their petty fights don’t amount to much, but their big ones are disastrous. Often, its between Bastion and Jack the most as they have opposite opinions on several matters that are important to them. Yusei and Jaden often run interference. Yusei rarely fights with anyone, and it is typically resolved quickly. Jaden rarely fights, and if he does, he usually settles it with a duel or a fist fight.

Who’s the big spoon/little spoon;

There are two constants and there are two that change depending on the sleeping cycle or habits. Yusei is always the big spoon. He enjoys holding his partners and making them feel safe. Bastion is always the little spoon. He never asks for it, but his shoulders often slump in a way that indicates he needs affection, and his partners are more than willing to provide.

Jaden and Jack are flexible. They cuddle as the dynamics need or what they want. But, in a percentage, Jaden is big spoon 75% of the time and little spoon 25%. Jack is big spoon 45% of the time and little spoon 55%.

What are their nicknames for each other;

Yusei: (to Bastion) Bas; (to Jaden) Jay; (to Jack) my King

Jaden: (to Yusei) babe, daddy, Yu; (to Bastion) Bas, Basy, babe, pretty boy; (to Jack): Jackie, babe, baby, my King[after hearing from Yusei]

Bastion: he doesn’t really do nicknames, mainly calling everyone but their full name, but he does at times call Jaden ‘Jay’ when he’s flustered or aroused.

Who’s the better cook;

Bastion and Jack. Jack is the best cook of them all, having taken time to learn while under Godwin’s custody as it was often a stress reliever. Bastion is a bit of a health nut, so he cooks and enjoy it to make healthy snacks while Jack is all about baking treats and cakes.

Who remembers their anniversaries;

Bastion the most. He’s very aware of holidays and birthdays as well as anniversaries as he wants his partners to feel loved and adored. Yusei is a close second as he often makes sure their anniversaries are directed toward Bastion the most. Jack and Jaden don’t really care and often forget. To them its just another day. Yusei understands that to Bastion, it’s an event of their love, lasting longer and longer, and he is the one who needs the reminder the most. So Yusei is always sure that Bastion knows they all know (even if he’s the one reminding Jack and Jaden).

Their favorite thing to do together (besides sex);

Jack and Jaden love dueling one another. Either in standing duels or riding duels, they get the greatest enjoyment in challenging one another and beating the ever-living crap out of one another.

Yusei and Bastion adore working on projects together. That could be deck building or bike updating or even house updates or plans. They plan it out and they figure out all the nuances of their projects and they absolutely lose themselves in each other.

Jaden and Bastion love to cuddle. Jaden always starts it, Bastion just letting him hold him or pull him into his lap or Jaden lying on his. They can be in bed sleeping or they can be relaxing on the couch reading/watching tv, but their favorite thing is to physically be near one another.

Jaden and Yusei are often training, Yusei learning to harness his Clear Mind and Jaden controlling his Darkness powers. The two powers work pretty well to repel each other as well as work together. Jaden loves using his powers and Yusei loves pushing their limits as well as experimenting (sometimes Jack joins using Burning Soul while Bastion helps keep track of their scores/health/stats/etc. but more often than not, its mainly just Yusei and Jaden's thing)

Jack and Bastion are also cuddlers, but often they have emotional chats. Bastion and Jack just lie beside one another in the semi darkness of Jack’s room, talking in quiet tones about all sorts of emotional stuff. Babies, families, traumas, sex, fights, parents, growing up, etc. All sorts of things where they are crying or smiling or laughing.

Who ‘wears the pants’ in the relationship;

Yusei always wears the pants.

Jaden always wears the pants for Bas and Jack, and will sometimes wear the pants for Yusei but mostly doesn’t for him.

Jack wears the pants for Bas, but does not for Yusei and Jaden.

Bastion never wears the pants.

How they would get engaged;

Everyone but Bas aren’t really into marriage. They see no need for it. Bastion follows in their thoughts and never proposes, but he does dream of the idea of getting married. They do, however, eventually get married but more for financial and medical reasons than for romantic ones. Yusei and Bastion marry as Yusei understand Bastions dream for it better, and they take it much more seriously. So Yusei proposes to Bastion in a small but simple way, walking around town and then getting on one knee with a ring in hand. Bastion, of course, flushes red and cries, mumbling a yes before Yusei is standing, slipping the ring on, and kissing the daylights out of Bastion. When they do finally marry, Bastion takes on Yusei’s name in a hyphenation so he becomes Bastion Misawa-Fudo.

Jaden and Jack marry for the financial/medical reasons. They don't particularly do a proposal, they just say 'we should do it for xyz.' They do not take on each other’s name, and they don’t make a big deal of it.

What would their wedding be like;

Though they don’t care for marriage, each married couple does have a wedding.

Bastion and Yusei have a calm wedding with family and close friends where the only media allowed is Carly. The media is allowed since Yusei is a figure for the people, but mostly it is just the enjoyment of each other. Yusei wears a black tuxedo. Bastion wears a white tuxedo (though I have thought of Bastion wearing a white wedding gown). Their rings would be simple, just silver bands. But on the inside would be all of their names etched.

Jack and Jaden have a much bigger wedding with all the press and all the bells and whistles. Jack makes it a big extravaganza, wearing his best tuxedo with the finest threads. Jaden would wear a red tuxedo. There would be talk that Jaden is similar to the famous ‘Jaden Yuki’ that disappeared years ago, but often it is thought he is just named after the same man. They don’t correct that thinking. They too have simple silver bands, much to the presses’ disappointment, but inside is also all of their names.

How many kids would they have;

This has been plotted between Kit and I for a long while, as well as a recent addition from Yugirl.

lily i wish you could hear the noise i just made when i saw this. god. okay. i’m going in approximate chronological order here. also an important piece of context is my mom did not let us watch ~adult tv~ until approximately 2010 so even though i am theoretically old enough to remember, like, one tree hill, i did not watch it.

Reincarnation and Promises

ITP a lot of thoughts related to Soulshipping as I work on this fic, as yelled to my tabletop group who basically know nothing but what I’ve told them about GX but a lot about my love for reincarnation junk.

Just how does Judai relate to his past life? How does that affect his relationship with Yubel?

In their original lives Judai promised Yubel he'd only love them, after Yubel had already voluntarily become a monster dedicated to protecting him. In the present Judai remembers their past lives while Yubel is trying to destroy the universe, tortured into insanity by a combination of his mistake and the Light of Destruction’s corruption, and he instantly flips from "you're evil and deluded and I will stop you at any cost" to "I accept your love (by choosing Super Fusion), you need healing and I will risk my entire existence to help you."

What is he thinking at that moment when he flips? The decision to fuse with Yubel is about taking responsibility, growing up, and redemption as well as - or even more than - a matter of love. But also, there's so many angles to what he’s feeling about those two things, and how much of each factors into exactly why he chooses to metaphorically return Yubel’s love and fuse their souls.

The flashback to their past lives is brief, less than three minutes of episode most of which is exposition, and you don't really get a full sense of just how much Judai connects with his past life beyond the line "I remember... They're me and Yubel in our past lives" before he watches his past self make that defining promise.

How much does he remember? Does he feel like a continuation of his past life in that moment, or like the next version of the young prince? I feel the answer to that question changes the meaning of his decision to fuse their souls together, in essence ensuring they can't be separated again as a gesture of love and/or to take responsibility for how they’ve hurt Yubel. If he feels a sense of continuity with his past self then that decision is a continuation of that promise to love Yubel, and an as-it-should-be reunion between guardian and guarded. If he views his past self as someone connected to but separate from himself, then continuing that promise is more of a decision he takes upon himself to stay connected to someone he still feels tied to - or maybe not. Maybe it’s simply a sense of duty to someone he’s hurt, someone he promised to love in another life and feels obligated to love in the present.

How much responsibility does he feel to uphold the vows of his past self? How much responsibility does he feel to heal someone who's been hurt badly because of his mistakes (which were made because Yubel was attacking his neighbors to begin with)? Is loving Yubel his obligation, his nature, or his choice? Can it be multiple of these things, or even all three?

And on the other end Yubel made their choice long ago, without all those questions about their relation to a past life because their past is their present in ways Judai's is not. If Judai really wanted, he could probably reject everything about his past life and destroy Yubel to save the world. That's the least likely choice (and again, one he implicitly rejects when he chooses Super Fusion immediately after remembering), but he could probably do it. Yubel doesn't have that choice to reject the past or they barely have it, because they were remade entirely for him and both their existence and sense of self still kinda revolve around him.

The exact feelings Judai has about Yubel and the fusion are a matter of interpretation and/or headcanon, and trying to figure out what I think for fic purposes has brought up a lot of fascinating questions about how their past bears upon the present and the unevenness of Judai’s reincarnation combined with Yubel’s more constant nature. It’s definitely making some scenes both really fun, and also hard to finish before I settle my own thoughts here.

No. Why should I pay for you? We're not close. WOH, Episode 7, Part 15. WKX and GX look at the inn and see CWN talking to the waiter. The waiter asks which famous scholar CWN is. The embarrassed young man gestures and in a quiet voice to the waiter not to say it out loud. GX asks from the floor what happened and if CWN doesn't have any money. CWN denies it. The waiter, pleased with this, WKX states that CWN invited the girl to eat, but he didn't have any money and that can't be it. A delighted WKX gets up from the table and goes downstairs, and GX states that he shouldn't worry because he has money. The waiter comments that CWN lets the girl pay for him. WKX stands next to ZZS sitting at the table and, approaching ZZS, WKX states that he will pay for the boy. He then ostentatiously extends his hand and asks Ah Xu for his wallet. ZZS looks intently at WKX, who gestures for him to hurry up, and seeing no reaction, looks at ZZS. ZZS asks where WKX's wallet is, who sighs slightly offended and explains that people often make stupid mistakes. He adds that when they were walking down the street, he saw a handsome scholar who walked past him and even smiled. He explains that who would have thought that the man was a thief. ZZS just smiles, remembering WKX's arrogant behavior on the street. Meanwhile, CWN asks if it was the scholar in green robes with big eyes and fair skin. WKX turns to CWN, and ZZS also looks in that direction. CWN continues that he saw him in front of the calligraphy and painting stand. They even chatted for a while, and CWN stated that it must have been that man and that he stole his wallet. ZZS asks if WKX also fell into FBZ's trap. Surprised by ZZS's statement, CWN repeats the thief's name, claiming that he is a master of theft. He then turns to the waiter and explains that FBZ stole his wallet. GX, on the other hand, after bringing it down, looks closely at the person WKX is talking to. WKX sighs and continues telling ZZS that such a nice and weak scholar as he always gets cheated. He adds that everything is fine now and asks ZZS for his wallet again, holding out his hand intrusively. ZZS firmly refuses, explaining why he has to pay for WKX, since they are not close. WKX looks at him with pleading eyes. Seeing the situation WKX is in, GX asks who he is asking for money from and that he should leave this person alone, because he has something to pay with. WKX turns to the girl and tells her not to interfere in matters she shouldn't. WKX is glad that the young boy is in trouble and is clumsily trying to hide it. He himself is no better. WKX deliberately allowed himself to be robbed and now uses this fact to test ZZS's attitude towards him. He doesn't think that ZZS saw through his game from the beginning and decided to continue it by his own rules. ZZS guesses that in addition to Glazed Armor, WKX also lost his purse. He watches with pleasure and refuses to pay for WKX, and WKX does everything to convince ZZS to give him the purse. GX does not want her master to be humiliated and asks a stranger for help. She does not know who WKX's companion really is. How I love these scenes where ZZH and GJ talk in a very comical way. Their looks, gestures, body movements. They put so much emotion into this scene.

What should I know before buying a smartwatch?

A smartwatch is a bracelet-like wristwatch with an embedded operating system and sensors that can run applications, send or receive messages, show notifications, and more.

The first smartwatches were developed by PHTL Smartwatches. They were powered by the energy from a button cell battery. Later, in 1991, Seiko Epson Corporation created the prototypes of smartwatches. The description of this watch was filed in 1997 (see figure 1).

The concept of wearables has been gathering attention since 2007, when Apple launched its first iPhone. Nowadays, everyone is thinking about wearable devices due to their growing popularity. In 2014 Apple released its first real smartwatch: Apple Watch (see figure 2). 

Google also created a smartwatch called Android Wear (see figure 3). Samsung has released its line of Gear S3 watches (see figure 4). In the fall of 2016, Pebble Technology Corporation announced to stop making devices because it was bought by FitBit Inc.

What should I know before buying a smartwatch?

Before buying any type of device, you should know how to use it and what advantages it will bring. You can search the web for tips on choosing one or hiring an expert, but the most important thing is to check the specifications of a particular watch.

1. You don't need it

"The Apple Watch has been on the wrists of reviewers for ten days, and I haven't worn any other watch since setting it up," said Katyanna Quach from VentureBeat.  Some people are going to love this watch, but most people will probably not need it. According to a study made by Endeavour Partners, in 2015, about 58 million smartwatches were shipped. This year, Apple Watch sales are expected at $10 billion only for 2016 (see figure 5). That's why "if you want one, get it now," said Philip Elmer-DeWitt from Fortune.

2. You can use your phone instead

A smartwatch is like a smartphone companion, they are both powerful devices that offer similar benefits, but the main difference is that it's much easier to pull out your phone than take off your wrist to check what time it is. By having a smartwatch, you don't need to be so dependent on your smartphone: "On average, people touch their phones 150 times per day," said Ashley Carman from The Verge, "that's around 9,900 touches for the entire year". And not only smartphones are taking our attention: "Americans spend up to 90 minutes a day looking at their computers", according to Mary Meeker, who did this study in 2015 (see figure6).

3. It's for fitness enthusiasts more than the general public

"I think a lot of people are going to be disappointed with it as an everyday watch," said Jason Snell from Macworld. Indeed, smartwatches have initially been created for fitness enthusiasts. Tim Cook, an Apple CEO, said at the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) in June 2015: "the way I see it, if you're looking at a smartphone all day long, you probably aren't doing so well." Also, Phil Schiller claimed on stage that the primary goal of the Apple Watch was "to help customers stay fit.” Android Wear also has health-tracking features, and watches can track your heart rate (see figure 7). Fitbit also has its line of smartwatches, the Surge (see figure 8).

4. Choose Apple Watch over Android Wear smartwatches

"The Apple Watch is something people will want to buy and use on their wrist every day," said Joel Santo Domingo from The New York Times. He also did a review about Android Wear at the Google I/O conference in 2015, saying that it wasn't good enough yet: "I still find it frustrating to deal with notifications when they come in on Android Wear. For one thing, there's no way to archive or delete them directly-you can only respond or clear them" he said

5. go with a Pebble Time Round you are not into fitness tracking but want an affordable smartwatch -

 It is the only watch on this list that does not have a color screen, and it costs $250, a bit more than other models ($179 for Apple Watch Sport, $499 for the steel edition). However, if you don't care about having fitness features in your watch, this model is a better value. "It's exquisite [The Pebble Time Round] and every bit as functional with just enough app support to keep most people happy," said Rich Jaroslovsky from Bloomberg.

6. If pure fitness tracking is your priority

you should probably just get a fitness tracker - "When users buy the new Fitbit Alta HR or Charge 2, they're buying something that's going to sit in their lives and do something for them every day," said Stefan Etienne from Techcrunch. In this case, maybe you don't want a smartwatch because the battery life is shorter than most fitness trackers.

7. Nobody knows how long the battery will last

This problem was one of the most criticized things about Android Wear. According to several reviews, the battery lasts two days or less (see figure 10). "In the end, Apple Watch battery life is likely to be a big sticking point for potential buyers," said Anton Shilov from Computex. Users can extend it using Power Reserve mode, but they need to know when they charge it so that they don't miss any important notifications.

8. Want to look like a cyborg? Choose another watch

An unnamed reviewer said: "it looks like the most futuristic thing on your wrist," and added that he would wear it even if it didn't come with any innovative features. The Apple Watch Edition is made of 18K yellow or rose gold (with sapphire screen) and costs from $10,000 to $17,000 depending on the band you choose (see figure 11). One could also check out other smartwatches by Samsung (whose Gear S2 costs between $300 and $350), Asus, Huawei, or LG.

9. You shouldn't buy an Apple Watch hoping for a phablet replacement

"Size matters when it comes to a smartwatch. The LG Watch Urbane 2nd Edition is huge by comparison, with a 1.3-inch face that would look more at home on your wrist if you were rock climbing or deep-sea diving," said Andrew Hayward from TrustedReviews.

10. Do I have to charge my watch every day?

It depends on the model (see figure 12). Some Android Wear watches need charging every night, but there are not many reviews about it yet.

Conclusion

The best watch for you depends on how you plan to use it, your budget, and how vital battery life is for you. If you are looking for a good smartwatch that will last more than a day, the GX Smartwatch for the first thing you try out. 

If fitness tracking is your primary goal, get a Fitbit model. If you don't care about color screens or other fancy features, you can also save money and choose the Pebble Time Round.

GX Month Day 6: “Going Down With The Ships!”

You know what I’m talking about. We all have an armada parked in the bay, but there’s that one ship, that one ship, that you would die for. Today is all about OTPs and OT3s!

Wanted to do something for Fianceshipping too (cuz it it still very dear to me), but I’ll admit my Idol headcanons are a little more in depth.

“So what clubs are you thinking about joining?”

“Definitely music if they have one!” It’s the first week of middle school and Atticus practically vibrates as he walks towards the cafeteria with his new friend. New school, new people to meet, friends to make, and fun adventures to be had! And Atticus fully plans to make the most of it! “Or maybe track. Man, I’d love if there were a surfing club!”

Tashiro laughs. “This far inland?”

“You never know! I could try to start one!”

“Just joining the swimming club if you wanna play in water that badly.” Tashiro shakes his head, and Atticus gasps at him.

“For shame! How dare you compare the art of surfing to swimming! It’s like apples and oranges!”

“Still both fruit.” A cheeky grin.

Any further dramatic protest dies in his throat as another boy rounds the corner ahead and walks toward them with an open book. Atticus freezes where he stands.

He likes to people watch, so he’s noticed things recently. Girls have always been pretty, but lately...well, just this last week, he’s found himself comparing who looks better in their gym outfit like huh you’re kinda pretty wait that’s a dude or oo that shirt really shows off your muscles nice. It’s been confusing to say the least.

“Tenjoin?” Tashiro calls, but Atticus can’t bring himself to answer with his eyes glued to quite possibly the best looking person he has ever seen in his life please shove me against a locker and wreck me.

The guy passes, seemingly oblivious to Atticus’ eyes following him, and Atticus finally, finally peels his eyes away and snaps his jaw shut. How wrecked does he even look right now? Is he blushing? He’s gotta be blushing. Well, one thing is for sure.

“I’m not straight,” he croaks.

“Dude, what?”

The docks are peaceful. The sound of the waves lull Zane’s mind and emotions into a tranquil silence, not the buzzing numbness he’s learned to carry with him to combat the chaotic tempo from a life of stress. Out here, with the smell of salt on a gentle breeze, he feels relaxed.

It will be graduation soon.

He always thought they would graduate together.

Atticus’ disappearance hit Zane harder than he would have expected. The boy was practically sunshine incarnate when they met in middle school, something Zane never thought he’d be comfortable with. And yet Atticus barreled through all his defenses in a matter of weeks of and they’d been best friends ever since.

“Hey. I thought I’d find you out here.”

Zane turns at the sound of the voice. Atticus walks down the dock with a friendly wave and gentle smile on his lips. It’s not the same sunshine-and-rainbows smile it used to be, but it’s honest.

“So, nearly the big day, huh?” He leans casually against the light post. “You nervous?”

“It’d be stupid not to be,” Zane scoffs, relaxing into the familiar banter in a way even the ocean waves can’t induce.

Atticus laughs and sound warms Zane. His friend’s eyes are still haunted, but they’re also still just as warm as they’ve always been. Zane isn’t as oblivious as Atticus might want to believe; he sees the way Atticus looks at him, has looked at him for years. The emotions in those brown eyes have evolved, but the core of it all stays the same.

Atticus “the ladies man” fell for another man. It’s almost funny. He’s not even that subtle about it. But Atticus had never pressed the matter, and Zane can’t say he minds.

“Gotta admit tho, I’m kinda sad.” Atticus lowers his eyes to the wood under his feet. “Always thought it’d be the three of us, you know?” Shrugging, he lifts his gaze to the dark sky.

Zane does know. “You still don’t remember what happened?”

Atticus shakes his head. “If I did, I’d tell you. I have a feeling not telling you is what led to all of this.”

Zane doesn’t bother answering that. He’s fairly certain Atticus knew something about Yusuke’s disappearance at the time, but Atticus became edgy, evasive, and almost distant before his own disappearance. Zane blamed himself for doing nothing despite the warning signs. Now, he knows enough to doubt he’d have been able to do much.

He still wishes he’d tried.

��It’s fine,” he says automatically.

Atticus snorts. “Liar.”

Warm solid arms wrap around him and Zane leans into it.

“Nothing about this is fine,” Atticus’s voice shakes.

No, but sometimes one needs to pretend in order to survive.

It’s tiring.

They stand there like that for a while in the peaceful ambiance of the sea until finally making their way back to the dorms.

“Hey,” Atticus says, pulling them to a stop outside the doors. He looks troubled. “Just this once,” he murmurs, tugging on Zane’s jacket as he presses their lips-

What the fuck?!

By the time Zane’s brain reboots itself, Atticus has already run off into the building, and Zane stands there, hand to his lips, severely confused and reevaluating the last six years of his life.

Zane books a different trip from the island than the rest of his fellow graduates, he doesn’t want to feel cramped in the same space as dozens of other people, so the farewell fanfare has moved on as well. It’s just him and docks, and that’s how he likes it most days.

The quiet gives him space to think.

Just this once, Atticus said, and Zane’s not sure if he’s okay with that. If he’s completely honest with himself, Atticus is one of very few - if not the only - people that Zane feels comfortable and related around. He’s well grounded and practical under that playboy attitude of his, and he’s, well...Zane can understand to a certain extent why half the student population wants to fawn over him (not why they do - that is a level of impulse Zane can’t comprehend - but why they want to).

“Hey~!”

Speak of the devil. Zane jolts out of his thoughts as Atticus jogs over, waving his arm excited.

“Geez! Were you gonna leave without saying goodbye?” Atticus pouts dramatically. “I thought I was your bestie!”

“Who else would be?”

“Exactly! No one but me can crack that cold, stoic shell of yours!”

Zane rolls his eyes.

“Hey! That’s the part where you’re supposed to laugh! Damn, I must be out of practice...”

“Atticus,” Zane says, and the other teen looks up from his mussing to give Zane his full attention.

Now or never.

Steeling himself, Zane takes the plunge. He has zero idea what he’s doing but Atticus should get the message regardless if he mimics the other’s action from a few days ago. His brain doesn’t short circuit on him this time, thank gods.

“I don’t want it to be ‘just once’.”

Atticus stares at him like a deer in the headlights. Zane...expected something more. He expected Atticus to squeal or squeeze him or something, but all that comes in a shuddering breath and HOLD ON WAIT BACK UP WHY YOU ARE CRYING?!

“I- damnit you’re graduating I’m such an idiot!”

The carefully constructed I’m okay, nothing’s changed facade breaks apart in front of him and for the first two seconds Zane spirals into PANIC before the word vomit makes sense and drags him out of it.

“It wasn’t you.” Zane pulls the shaking mess against him. “You’re not that subtle. I’ve known for awhile. I just...refused to acknowledge it.”

“And then I was gone for two years.”

“Worse two years of my life,” Zane admits, and surprisingly means it, despite all the other bullshit. “I didn’t...expect this reaction.”

“I didn’t think I was going to cry either!” Atticus angrily swipes at the tears in his eyes. “Do you know how many times I fantasized about this? Crying was not part of the equation!”

“At least I know it’s honest.”

“Huh?”

“You fake your smile half the time.”

Atticus huffs. “It’s just how I cope.”

Pretending to be okay will break you, Zane could say, but that would just be hypocritical. He ruffles Atticus’ hair instead and revels in how Atticus leans into it.

“I’m glad tho,” Atticus whispers, then looks shyly up through his bangs. Shy is never a word anyone would associate with Atticus, but Zane knows better; he’s one of the few who gets to see that more vulnerable side. “Can you kiss me again?”

Zane obliges. Atticus’ lips are warm and soft, his face still damp, and it still sends tingles through Zane’s own lips down his chest. Butterflies? Huh, so that’s what it feels like. He could definitely get used to this.

Atticus smiles when they part, a small, gentle curve that Zane knows is genuine. “Next time, I want you to wreck me.” He winks.

Wreck what...? Oh. Snorting, Zane hides his face in his hand. Gods, this guy... “Next time. Sure.”

Halfway across the dock, Syrus stands frozen midstep, turns around, and walks away. Zane probably didn’t wanna see him anyway. What the fuck was that?! Nope, not gonna ask, none of his business. Zane can kiss whoever the frick he wants. Just keep walking.

And if Syrus feels the ghost of arms around his shoulders, he stubbornly ignores it.
