eli’s costume dilemma (much to the amusement of his moms)
you: “so you wanna be spider man? like from the comic books?”
elijah, obviously irritated: “no :( i wanna be a spider who is also human!”
abby, overheard from the kitchen: “hey! we don’t raise our voices at your mama!”
elijah, quieter voice: “sorry mama. i’m just… frustrated”
you raise your brows at his choice of words.
you: “why are you frustrated?”
abby walks in from the kitchen, she wipes her hands on a dish towel then swings the towel over her shoulder
elijah: “everyone thinks i’m going to be spider-man but i wanna be a spider who is also human. it is different.” he pouts.
you open your arms and he climbs up to sit next to you. it’s a perfectly strategic move to hide your smiling face from his sad one.
you, brushing his hair back in a comforting manner: “and what is the difference again?”
elijah: “he was made into a spider but is human. i was born as a spider-human”
abby makes eye contact with you: “what a weirdo” she mouths then turns around to head back into the kitchen to work on dinner again
you hide your smile by kissing elijah’s temple
you, once you tame your laughter: “okay, baby. then a spider-human is what you will be. what do you need help with?”
elijah, thoughtful to your question, though obvious to the irony and absurdity of his costume: “i need to make four more legs appear on my body”
you: “hmm what about paper towel rolls? momma puts them in the recycling bin so I bet some are still there. why don’t you go look?”
elijah, happier than before: “ok! thank you mama!”
elijah detaches from you and sprints to the kitchen
abby, overheard in the kitchen, to elijah who must have ran right to her: “okay my little spider-human, what are we working with here?”
#i just think its funny that he doesn’t wanna be a superhero. he wants to be a bug human hybrid#some kids are so weird <3 good for them#elijah is a very particular kid#has anyone ever watched the japanese movie house?#well that movie was based on a kid being asked about they think a horror movie is like#that movie is fucked up. kids are kinda fucked up.#abby anderson x reader#abby anderson x you#mads’ headcanons#elijah isaac genevieve#mom!abby#momma!abby#mama!reader#family fic#abby anderson imagine

The Type of Dad Poly!Ilichil Is
Made this for anyone interested in my poly!ilichil x oc book~~ This is the kind of dad they all are with their daughter, Reyna. If you guys have any questions, my asks are open! Hope you enjoy!
Johnny - suburban dad Makes everyone's food, packs Reyna's school bag, asks about her day, gets her settled in her car seat and makes sure she’s safe, gets her after school snacks. He’s the one on all her paperwork, so he’s gotta be there for everythingggggggg-- Dance recitals, sports games, pre-k graduation, etc.
Taeyong - tired dad Falls asleep everywhere in the house with Reyna laying on top of him. He didn’t get to spend much time with her when she was a baby because of his enlistment, so he does a lot to make up time with her now. Likes to spoil her with expensive gifts. Teaches her to dance. Front row for all of her school events and performances so he can record and take pics like an embaeassinglty proud dad.
Yuta - fashionista dad Picks out all of Reyna's outfits, buys all of her clothes, very critical of the outfits the other boys try to put her in whenever he's not around. Goes with her to the hair salon to make sure the stylist doesn’t fuck up his daughter’s hair— Loves to wear matching outfits with her omfg….. Very casual, so he only picks her up when she runs over to him and asks. Teaches her to speak Japanese, insists that she only speaks Japanese when talking to him. Takes her to Japan whenever she's on break from school. Loves to take her to concerts, having her run on stage before the show starts and the stadium is empty, making sure her noise cancelling headphones are snug on her head every time he runs off stage between sets, etc. Average rockstar dad things.
Doyoung - cuddle bug dad If he can’t sleep, he’ll steal Reyna from Ahri’s room and sleep with her in his room. He loves to watch her run around in her princess costumes omfg. He loves to make her laugh because he thinks her laugh is the cutest thing in the whole wide world-- She has a bright, wide, gummy laugh just like him. He’s just all around supportive. Buys stuffed animals for her, specifically bunnies. He does the chores around the house, he takes Reyna when Ahri needs a break, he helps Johnny with paperwork and any tasks for Reyna, etc. Basically just the back bone to everyone else’s dad traits.
Jaehyun - bestest dad in the whole world Loves to hold her and carry her around the house. Loves cuddling with her and watching movies with her. He takes her to work in the years before grade school starts, then he starts taking her on holidays and weekends when Yuta doesn't steal her away to Japan. He’ll have her run around practice rooms, sit in the board room chairs that are too big for her, watch as he records music in the music booths, etc. If he could take her everywhere, have her attached to his hip 25/8, he would. He loves doing everything with her.
Jungwoo - silly dad Sneaks her snacks, takes her to do fun things. Is very protective and will bat off all the little kids who try to flirt with her on the playground. Cries on her first day of school. Play date dad-- Drops her off at the other parents' houses, scopes out if it's safe or not, runs the interrogations (He will interrogate the kids, too, no one is safe from protective dad!Jungwoo). If it's a sleepover, he'll overpack her bags and sit in the car in the driveway for, like 10 min, worrying about her before he finally goes home.
Mark - late bloomer He’s figuring it out, he just needs more time… He’s a lil scared…. But when he’s missed her lots after tour or something, he’ll fight everyone else to hold her in his arms for hours to days on end. Haechan has a folder full of pictures and videos of Mark and Reyna sleeping or playing together. When Mark and Hyuck are on tour and he bring up missing her, Hyuck will pull out his phone.
Haechan - the most girl dad to ever girl dad Bro is obsessed with Reyna even before she’s born ok. Buys her everything she wants. Plays silly games with her. Will dress up as a princess for tea time. Makes silly faces with her as their silent love language. Spoils her to Hell and back because he doesn't want her to lift a single finger ever. If one of the boys tries to give her chores to do, Haechan will do them for her, even though he hates doing chores. Teaches her bad habits because it’s fun for them to do together even tho Ahri and Johnny beg him not to…

(This post is a bit random so if you get it you get it if you don't get it it's fine)
It's 2024. I should be going to the disco, which I dislike.
Instead, I decided to hyperfixate on a Welshman.
One thing that baffles me to this day, and trust me it has happened more than once, is has anyone ever tried to protest at least a bit to still have Matt as John? Did no one try hard enough? Or have the attempts failed?
I mean-
I'm a newer fan (even with content crumbs I am a fan) still, so I can't be sure, but I'm amazed that in all these years that have passed, no one ever did anything, and now he can't even play Constantine (I think).
And now, the only role I've seen is him dubbing John 💀
Ignoring this discourse about John, I've decided to search for other roles, movies, and series, and what I've found was interesting, to say the least.
I am becoming passionate about him for various reasons. Other than wanting to revive pre-pandemic activities, I have noticed a pattern: I enjoy searching for things that I only watch. These are some thoughts I had about some things I could not find in Italy:
Hard to find (for example, I'm still searching for "The Halcyon," and the funniest thing about this is that in Italy, it was shown on TV (on an RAI channel, RAI is an Italian broadcaster) during 2017 and it's not available on their platform.
Region-locked content (the DCAU being region-locked is such a crime; we only have House of Mystery, and that's it) or even trying to watch a simple cameo when the entire series is region-locked (the Harley Quinn one). However (and this is good news), while searching for Away (one of his movies to watch), I found Tubi and used a free VPN. It was slow, but it worked, and I watched it.
Expensive (I paid Assassin's Creed Black Flag in installments, so that wasn't expensive, but still...)
It was a play, so they haven't recorded it, but to see and better understand the role he played (in this case, read), I read Thérèse Raquin by Émile Zola, and it was still effective.
Not even available on Chili (an Italian streaming platform on which you can rent or buy movies), the title only appears but is not available for streaming (lol).
Using Vinted or secondhand shops in general (it’s not the best time for me to go fully secondhand, but I suppose I could find some things there).
At the moment, I've watched just what I could easily find without resorting to piracy (which is ironic, since in Assassin's Creed Black Flag, Matt voices Edward Kenway, a pirate.).
In this list of things I could easily find, we have:
Constantine (thanks to another fan)
Criminal Minds/Criminal Minds Suspect Behavior (I had Disney Plus for a month, so I've watched it from there)
Flypaper, Adverse (Prime Video)
Arrow (Prime video)
Legends of Tomorrow (Netflix and Mediaset infinity)
House Of Mystery (Amazon prime, you have to rent it but still)
While writing this I found that "Layer cake" is on Sky, which I have and Now TV too.
Pocket Money (While watching it I just understood two words out of an entire short and I'm a c2 in English 💀)
Away, Wild Decembers, Armistice, Blood Monkey
So, you might have been asking yourself... Have I gone mad? To search and find for stuff not even available in my own country? In my own continent, too?
But I thought this is what comes with being a fan of someone, even if the career is what it is.
Considering me being unlucky, I was never able to see Matt when he acted and then had premieres at the same time.
Asssassin’s Creed Black Flag? I was 10, a child, lol.
Legends Of Tomorrow? I liked anime, manga and everything japanese.
And the list goes on...
It's nice to see what was like and what I couldn't live, gosh, I'm praying hard that we get to see him act again, I want and I wish to be present, live or not.
I wanted to make a really nice speech but nothing comes to mind, when I get it maybe I'll post it 💀

As a fan of horror who is also an absolute wuss when it comes to actually consuming horror, I am so fucking stoked Horikoshi implemented a fuck load of horror imagery and theming with Dabi and his whole story. The Frankenstein resemblance has been mentioned everywhere already so I won't touch on that but be sure I love that too.
With just his looks there's so much. The burnt purple skin. The staples covering him and looking to be holding him together, made even better and gruesome with Horikoshi's detailed artwork. His black clothing and ripped jacket that also has staples on them(gotta follow that theme). The bright blue eyes that you just know would appear to glow in his eyes sockets when framed by the purple scarring under them, like permanent eyebags. That his whole lower jaw is scarred and stapled so you can almost see Dabi unhinging his jaw in your mind. In Japan there's a supernatural creature called Onibi, spirits born from the corpses of humans and animals who take the form of blue fire. Are often also resentful spirits. Blue fire in general seems to be associate with the supernatural and the dead there(anyone who knows more feel free to correct me or add onto that tho).
But even beyond his design, his whole backstory and character is jam-packed with horror imagery. The Todoroki's being the most traditionally japanese in the whole series adds even more(seriously Japan has such amasing horror stories, whether it's movies or games or books, if you're interested pls try and check some stuff out).
Died as a young child, and kids in horror movies are both infamous and a staple, especially when they're wearing white. Touya died wearing his white track suit. His new costume is based on japanese burial clothing. Touya burned to death alone on a mountain, a cremation of his own making. No corpse was ever found except part of his jaw. The horror stories writes itself with just that, like you cannot tell me there's not an urban legend based on Touya's death on that mountain in-universe. Is the ghost of a child said to forever wander the mountain, searching for his lost jaw, or waiting for someone to finally join him in his solitude?
But then he didn't actually die. He was brought to a facility that was actually a front for human experimentation and also works as a supply of spare children in case the plans of the man behind all this don't work out with the child he has already taken. Touya wakes up to find out his body is unfamiliar to him. Three years has passed him by. His body was so far gone parts from other people had to be supplied. Normal in the case of skin grafts, but what else needed to be switched out? And either way Touya was operated on without his knowledge and then watched over and taken care of by people he does not know. And when he wakes up no one refers to him by name and he's told he can't go home.
But he does. And finds a shrine dedicated to him, his existence forgotten and left behind, and the rage and grief this spikes in him is enough for a new entity to be born. Something dark and twisted but stronger than Touya. Someone who can take revenge for the life that was lost in such a cruel way. No one else will, so Touya, Dabi, has to do it himself.
Always the ghost of the Todoroki family, there for others to simper by his shrine and use his memory in any way they please to fit them.
In reality he's been a vengeful spirit for years, finally taking his control and agency back. The sacrifice come back to life to take revenge on those who wronged him. The ghost that escaped the house.
#bnha#dabi#horikoshi really went ahead and decided “I'm going to create a character with so many horror vibes and theming”#and created one of the most unique character designs ever#i just love his design so much and having all of *waves upwards* that#makes it even better i just love dabi so much

When’s the last time you ate bread? I'm about to eat a sandwich.
What’s the last movie you watched on your own? I watched Mrs. Doubtfire earlier and now Freaky Friday is on.
What about the last movie you watched with another person? My mom and I watched some of Avengers: Endgame last night before bed.
How many coats do you own? I have a few. I kinda feel ready to go through my clothes again and try to get rid of some more.
What about shoes? I have 6 pairs of shoes.
One word to describe your most recent ex? Funny.
Where, in your current country, would you like to live, other than where you do now? I'm honestly not sure. I know I don't want to stay here forever. I'd love to move in the very near future, but that probably won't happen.
Do you like snow? Yes.
Do you like sheer clothing? No.
Have you ever seen anyone famous in the street? When I first saw the Jonas Brothers early on I did actually see Joe and Kevin behind the building near their tour bus. I acted like the awkward weirdo I am and waved at them like a giddy idiot, ha. I was too nervous to actually go over there, though. Trust me, I kicked myself forever after that for not going up to meet them and getting a picture. It was the perfect opportunity.
Are you hungry right now? I am, so I'm gonna take a break from this and eat my sandwich.
Are you regularly tired? Yes. In fact, after I ate my sandwich I ended up taking like a 3 hour "nap." So, this is now being done much later, ha.
What was the last thing to upset you? I've been been extra irritable and sensitive again lately, which is something that I actually felt my depression med I started taking last year was helping with. I was also prescribed Rexulti in additon to what I'm taking, but I haven't taken it as consistently for different reasons and I'm wondering if that has something to do with it. I'm also on an anti-anxiety med, which had been helping with that as well so I don't know. And I already know I won't be able to get an increase in the dosage for any of those. Sigh.
How’s the weather been today? I didn't go out at all, but according to the weather app it was like 93 F today. Not fall weather at all that's for sure.
What was the first tattoo you got or what would be the first tattoo you’ll get? I don't have any, but since I was a teenager I've wanted to get 'free bird'.
What was the last store you went into and did you buy anything? It's this store called Daiso, which is kinda like a Japanese Dollar Store or a little more. It's got a lot of cute stuff. I always get a little carried away whenever I go in there.
Have you ever been late for school or work? Yeah. I hate being late so it wasn't a common occurrence. I used to be really anal about that.
Do you prefer to shower in the morning or at night? Always at night.
What is your favourite kind of fruit cobbler? Not a fruit cobbler kind of person.
Is there a basement in your house? If so, what is it used for? No.
Have you driven a car today? I don't drive.
Do you have a small, medium or large bedroom? It's too small. I've definitely outgrown it. Or maybe I have too much stuff but no it's just small okay shhh
Where was your first job and how old were you? I haven't had a job, yet.
Have you eaten soup this week? No. That doesn't sound appealing still it still feels very much like summer and I hate it.
Are you a fan of The Office? I just couldn't get into it.
When was the last time you started a new medication? A couple months ago.
What is your favourite type of nut? I very rarely eat nuts, it's been quite awhile since I've had any like I don't even remember. But anyway, that being said I do like a few like peanuts, cashews, pistachios, and season (not plain) almonds.
Do you know anyone who doesn’t have a middle name? Yeah.
Have you put your phone on silent today? No. The only time I do that is when I'm at the theater, and admittedly not always then. Not like my phone is blowing up with notifications.
Can you name all 50 US state capital cities? No, but I can name all 50 states in alphabetical order.
Do you read John Green novels? I only read a few.
Have you ever been to Universal Studios? I went once when I was like 7 and don't remember a whole lot to be honest. We also went to Disneyland after that and that I definitely remember.
Can you tie balloons? I can, but it can be hard sometimes.
When was the last time you were at a pet store? It's been a long time.

Spiritual Practice/Religion (If Any): I'm an Eclectic Pagan, so while I DO celebrate holidays like Christmas and Easter with my family, I also observe Pagan holidays that correlate with the seasons and also engage in some spiritual practices that would be considered witchcraft by some. No disrespect to anyone who doesn't follow the same spirituality or religion as me whatsoever! Whatever you celebrate and however you practice your spirituality, even if you don't practice it in the slightest, I wish you nothing but good fortune and happiness! (if you ever have any questions about my traditions, holidays, and practices, feel free to let me know! I'm always happy to answer! ^w^)

Favorite Color: Yellow!
Favorite Anime: Probably either Fruits Basket or Sasaki & Miyano! I have many favorites that come and go, but these two remain comfort shows for me.

The Kind Of Content I Hope To Create: Gameplay and ASMR acting! While I may experiment with other things as well, these are the two main things I want to do.
Alright, before I go, I'm just going to make a quick PSA here so you know what to expect in my little corner of the internet!
I advise that anyone under the age of 18 not interact with my content. While I DO try to keep things wholesome and chill, I AM an adult and at times I WILL use adult language or engage with media not appropriate for children.
Any bigotry of any sort will not be tolerated. Whether it be about race, religion, nationality, gender identity, sexuality, or anything of the sort, that sort of behavior will not be tolerated and will be handled accordingly if I see it here.
I am involved in many fandom spaces and love many pieces of media, so my posts will appear to be all over the place. If there is a piece of media you don't like, I WILL be tagging accordingly so you can avoid posts about it if you so choose.
Don't be afraid to approach if you want to have a conversation! I'm always happy to chat! ^w^
With that, I believe that's it! I hope that we can have a nice, chill time together in this little corner of the internet so we can all hopefully have a break from how chaotic real life can be. So let's try and be kind to each other and have a nice time, okay?
I hope you enjoy your stay and stay tuned for any content I create in the future!
Wishing you well my dears! Farewell!

Diary Entry 013: Digital Pen Pal Letter
【日記のエンタリー十三番:デジタルなペンパルの手紙】
Dear Pen Pal,
Hey Pen Pal! I know we were already able to get in contact before, but I still want to write you this letter. Moreover, I write about my everyday life and American culture on this blog. As a result, I think I'll write a digital pen pal letter for you today. I'm already writing you a letter by hand, so don't worry, OK? Also, I already know your name, but because anyone can see this blog, I'll call you "Pen Pal". So now then, shall we start?
About Myself,
My name is Brooke. I am currently 17 years old, but on November 19, I will turn 18! I live in a yellow house near my town's high school in the state of New Jersey (But I go to a different high school. I'll talk about that later). When I started high school, my parents divorced, so therefore I live with my mom, sister, and pet dog. My hobbies and interests are listening to music, playing video games, reading manga, and studying Japanese.
I love listening to music! Especially vocaloid music. My favorite vocaloid artists are Kikuo and Maretu. Actually, I really like to buy vocaloid CDs, so I have a whole collection! It was so expensive! By the way, I recently went to one of Kikuo's concerts in New York City. It was so fun! Besides listening to music, I like to play video games, too. my favorite video games are The Legend of Zelda and Splatoon 3 (especially TOTK and Side Order). Actually, I'm going to dress up as Princess Zelda from TOTK for Halloween. I'm so excited! About reading manga... Before I didn't like to read books, but recently I've been getting into reading manga because they're easier to read. For now, my favorite manga are Goodnight Pun Pun and Blood on the Tracks, but I already finished reading them! Now then, as for studying Japanese, for me personally, I like typing in Japanese better because I find it easier. I have this blog for that express reason. Besides typing in Japanese, I can speak some Japanese, but I don't think I'm that good at it. Either way, because I want to be a Japanese teacher in the future, I want to become better at Japanese!
My School
I used to go to a public school before, but because I have Depression, ADHD, and Unspecified Anxiety Disorder, sometimes I'm unable to go to school. As a result, I'm currently attending a "Special School". Have you ever watched the movie "Totto-chan: The Little Girl at the Window"? In that movie, Totto chan's school and my school are sort of the same, except a lot of kids with mental health issues go to my school. Actually, I think Totto chan has ADHD, too. I was taken aback! Anyways, if you want to learn more about special schools, this video is about a special school in America, although the students in said video are more troublesome than my classmates (thank God!). Also, there aren't any Japanese subtitles.
End
終わる
これで、君へ私からペンパルの手紙が終わります。読んでくれて、ありがとうございました。また、私について質問を聞いたら、インスタグラムで連絡してくださいね?以上です。それじゃ、またね!
In conclusion, my pen pal letter from me to you is over. Thank you for reading it! Also, if you have a question about me, please feel free to message me on Instagram, ok? That's it. Anyways, see you later!
-Brooke

Barefoot Gen
Films like this really show why media is an effective tool for empathy.
When we learn about the nukes that America dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki in academic environments, its all too easy to pity momentarily, compartmentalize the tragedy and move on. But the reality of it was that even after surviving instant death by incineration, living around the area was waking hell, unlike any other bombing anyone has ever dealt with, and seeing the atrocities in film form really puts things into perspective.
When the movie opens, we're greeted by a family struggling to get by in WWII wartime as rations are low and most people are poor. Considering that I knew the movie was about the bombings, I spent the first 30 minutes of the film being charmed by the family, but also mentally preparing myself for the worst, when it came. The important part of these first 30 minutes of the movie is to show that the people affected by the bombings weren't the people instigating and taking part in war. They were civilians, even opposed to the war and the Japanese government's decisions at the time, as shown through Gen's father.
When the bombs actually drop, its a miracle at all that Gen survives, considering the girl next to her when the bomb drops is dead and partially incinerated. He goes back to his house which is now in flames, and Gen and his mother watch their family burn as they cannot lift the debris.
The living are portrayed like zombies, and soon after the streets are littered with dead bodies. The black rain that comes is said to cause cancer and deathly illnesses caused by radiation poisoning for years to come. The water that they attempt to give to people ends up killing them. Civilians and soldiers who are cleaning up the dead die horribly from radiation poisoning, losing their hair and coughing up blood. Healthcare systems and are flooded with people half alive, with wounds covering their body and maggots festering inside of those wounds. Gen loses his hair to radiation poisoning, and they take in a little boy Ryuta. There is not enough food to eat between the main characters or to keep the baby alive, and when the boys get enough money to buy powdered milk, they are too late and the baby has died from malnutrition.
Considering all that happens to them, its a little surprising that any of the main characters survived at all. I found that maybe the film might even be downplaying the effects of the radiation (the main characters being essentially fine from radiation, the wheat growing in the ground but potentially contaminated and not safe to eat) and omitting where they would get water for the sake of the theme of growth and survival, or perhaps for the sake of time. I am wondering if this is better portrayed in the original manga, where the story is loosely based off the author's real experience as a survivor of the Hiroshima nuke.
Even with that though, I think the film effectively portrayed the horrors of the event and I think the themes of resilience and regrowth have merit as Hiroshima is now a thriving city again with a population of 1.2 million.

ꞝ Julian.
he’s the type of person who would say “if not friend then why friend shaped” while watching a big, wild animal and genuinely suffer for not being able to pet it.
loves whistling and does it all the time. especially during serious situation. like, imagine him driving full speed while whistling robin hood’s theme all smiley.
he loves red velvet cakes, although he doesn’t enjoy sweets that much he finds its taste to be very nice & love the looks of it.

he loves summer, it’s his favorite season. he detests cold weather and becomes very gloomy when winter hits, and is actually pretty scared of storms since he was a child.
has several dreamcatcher in his house. he makes them himself, it’s one of his favorite hobbies. dreamcatchers make him feel safe and he finds them aesthetically pleasing.
he always kisses inanna goodnight on her head before going to sleep and pets her until she falls asleep. he absolutely love her more than anything and spoils her so much.
ꞝ Portia.
all the kids of vesuvia know her and love her, she’s everyone big sister. she always lets them play with her hair, making little braids and flowers crowns (she also keeps all the flowers kids give to her in a small box in her room).
hates pants. she finds them to be uncomfortable and ugly. indeed she only has dresses in her wardrobe, of all lenghts and shapes.
loves puzzles. she could spend hours doing them.
ꞝ Lucio.
he is scared of cats. like, way too unnecessarily much. he got scratched once, cried his eyes out, and decided from that day on he would tell anyone he’s allergic to cats to hide his fear.
he could eat green grape all day. he loves its taste, even though he hates the seeds.
he has the worst posture ever, and is always complaining about back pains (he’s totally unaware he sists like a C).

Do you ever worry about your future? (i.e.: college, marriage, kids, etc)
Well I can't say it doesn't happen, but it's not really worrying about marriage and kids because I know deep in my soul that these things just aren't for me. Whenever I try to imagine myself in those roles, I want to jump out of my skin, so no, I'm pretty sure that's out of the picture. Still, I do worry about whether people around me can accept me the way I am and whether everyone will move on and build their own families, leaving me utterly alone. Now those are the worries that keep me up at night.
Does your family use coasters? Is anyone in your family excessively tidy?
Usually we do. And yes, my mum is sometimes ridiculously tidy.
What’s your least favorite chore to do around the house? Do you have to do this often?
Cleaning the kitchen or bathroom sink or the shower drain for sure. I used to hate dishes, but I have a dishwasher now, and tbh, this is much much worse.
If you went to your mom/dad or whoever you live with and said “hey, I’ll clean the whole house if you give me 20 bucks” would they go for it? Would you raise the price?
I don't think my sister would go for it because: 1) she doesn't earn her own money yet and 2) why the fuck would she accept when I do it for free anyway
Are you usually late, early or right on time?
Usually a bit early, though it really depends on the traffic.
If you wrote a journal entry about your last date, what would it say?
I don't write journal entries.
On a scale of 1 to 5 how organized are you?
I think I come across as much more organized than I actually am tbh. So I don't really know. Maybe like 2.5 or 3.
Name a movie you can watch over and over again and not be bored with?
Let's say Mean Girls.
Do you wear pajamas to places other than at your house?
Well yeah, if I travel somewhere and stay at an apartment or a hotel.
Do you take showers in the morning or at night more?
In the evening usually.
What is the wallpaper on your cellphone?
It's just a white Samsung theme with a little cartoon cat.
Do you still have your tonsils?
Yup.
What is the worst thing someone has ever done to you?
It's hard to remember the specifics since I'm currently in a pretty good mood and would rather not ruin it by reminiscing about the people that have wronged me in the past lol
Have you ever gone nude/streaked in public?
Not since I was a very small child.
Do you snore? Steal the covers? Roll around in your sleep?
I think I sleep like a corpse most of the time. Like, sounds do wake me up, but when it's quiet, I don't move an inch.
Why aren’t you with the person you love?
I don't love anyone romantically. Otherwise, I am with a bunch of people that I love.
Could you go out in public looking like you do now?\
I mean, I'm a bit of a mess but sure.
Do you like the rain?
Yes, sometimes it fits the mood.
What is your mom listed under in your phone?
I listed her as "mother" in Japanese because I don't want to forget how to write it.
Do you like going to the dentist?
I do actually. I'm a bit of a minority in this, but I find all those medical procedures and checkups kind of interesting. Like, I doubt I'd enjoy if anything was seriously wrong with me, but when it's these small things, I really don't mind.
Are you afraid of speaking to large audiences?
Yes. I'm afraid of speaking to small audiences too.
Are you afraid to tell the truth sometimes?
All the time.
What’s one quality about yourself that you feel sets you back but also helps you?
Uhhh, well sometimes I feel like my natural tendency to question everything might be it. Of course that's good, but it also makes me not really trust anyone, you know? Like, I have friends that I've known for over a decade and I still sometimes question their words and motives, which kind of sucks on my part.
Was anyone who had been in your company today in a bad mood?
I haven't been in anyone's company yet.
The last time you felt sick what exactly was wrong?
I don't remember the last time that happened.
What did you do today?
Got up, had my usual standup call, did some research for the next article, wrote like 10 words then gave up because I already met my quota for this month and it's Friday. Maybe I'll just catch up on Sunday, or maybe I won't even bother.

#32 Yankee Doodle Dandy (1942)
Happy Independence Day! Sit back and watch The Man Who Owned Broadway hold FDR hostage for two hours while he divulges his entire life story because Mr. Roosevelt has nothing else important to focus his time on in the 1940s.
The good 'ol US of A has a very complicated history, and continues to make baffling policy decisions (to put it lightly). There is no lack of amount of dissenting opinions or criticisms proudly proclaimed against our country, and waving an American flag is a great indicator someone may be a bigoted right-wing nut job. But back in 1942, when this film was released, we were at the height of pro-American propaganda. There was no lack of Government made pieces of media, but Hollywood chipped in with Casablanca, This is the Army, The Great Dictator, Buck Private... Shit, the fucking Looney Tunes were making fun of Hitler. We continue to make films about America's Great War, because even though we killed over 100k Japanese civilians by bombing the shit out of them, entering the war is probably the last time anyone would admit America was "morally justified" in involving themselves in foreign conflicts.
When we entered Vietnam, and with our country's atrocities now being filmed and broadcast across the world, positive public opinion started to plummet, never recovering to those WW2 levels. Even attempts at a pro-Vietnam war propaganda, like John Wayne's The Green Berets, didn't produce the patriotic fervor the United States government wanted. Right after 9/11 it came closer than it ever had, because there's nothing like a terrorist attack on domestic soil to persuade citizens of a country to give up their basic rights to privacy and wear mass produced t-shirts made in overseas sweat shops proclaiming "Our Colors Don't Run". With the now 24-hour news media cycle and the amplification of all kinds of varying opinions, even during the Bush administration we could hear vocal outcry to their several war crimes. Sure, we'll still have American Sniper, but nothing will ever come off as sincere and rousing as a bunch of mannequins waving an American flag back and forth on a Broadway stage.
Because boy howdy, this is excellently made propaganda. Yankee Doodle Dandy is a fictionalized retelling of real-life actor/dancer/singer/composer/producer George M. Cohan, an Irish-American who grew up on the stage with his family by his side. The film is a squishy-timeline'd recounting of his rise to fame and wealth based on his talent and drive to succeed. And the in the most American origin story of all, its genesis may have been a result of its lead actor's desire to prove he wasn't a commie.
George M. Cohan is played by James Cagney, typically known for his roles in gangster movies even though he loved to sing and dance (I am convinced Hugh Jackman is trying to mimic his career). The real life Mr. Cohan was annoyed by Cagney's initial casting because he thought he was too pretty, leaning more toward someone like Fred Astaire, who is as goofy as he is good looking. Mr. Cohan was overruled, however, and by the time he viewed the film shortly before his death, he confessed he was a fool for his protests. James Cagney is lovely in this - he's charismatic and funny, improvising many of the bits that had me laughing out loud. He also worked with Mr. Cohan on this movie, and the script went through a lot of rewrites based on his feedback.
We open the movie on an older George M. Cohan performing on stage as FDR in a musical titled "I'd Rather Be Right". On opening night, after making out with his wife backstage in front of everybody, he receives a telegram from the White House from what George assumes is an annoyed Mr. Roosevelt. Only then does Mr. Cohan question whether or not its appropriate to impersonate a sitting president during an active war as he tucks his tail between his legs and takes the train to Washington.
Upon being greeted by a valet that remembers George's first visit to the grounds 30 years ago, we're treated to the mental image of that racist fucking asshole Teddy Roosevelt getting so jazzed up by Mr. Cohan's rendition of "You're a Grand Old Flag" that he would gleefully sing it in the bathtub. George is brought up to President Franklin Delano Roosevelt's office where a very well-meaning actor gives a faceless performance that will later be dubbed over in post. The president praises Mr. Cohan's patriotism, declaring, "That's one thing I've always admired about you Irish-Americans. You carry your love of country like a flag, right out in the open."
George informs the president that he inherited his nationalism from his father, who ran away to proudly fight in the civil war. Not to shit on my entire people, but I find it hard to believe that Irish-Americans were passionate about abolishing slavery for all people back in the 1860s. Mr. Cohan then takes this opportunity to kick-off the framing device by relaying his entire life story to a sitting president who clearly has nothing else to do.
Picture it: Providence, Rhode Island, 1878. It's the Forth of July, and Jerry Cohan, dressed like a leprechaun and sporting the worst Irish accent that I've heard since I've tried to do one myself, is rushing off the stage and back to the house to meet his newborn son George Washington Michael Cohan. With a baby sister, Josie (played by Cagney's real-life sister Jeanne), born several years later, the kids join the family business and the entire troop begin touring the vaudeville circuit as the aptly named 4 Cohans.
youtube
They're making this poor kid play a violin on his head while tap dancing. Lindsey Sterling could never.
Also, 13 minutes in and we've already got our first blackface performance. Add it to the list.
After snagging his first lead role at thirteen chucking eggs and flour at adults on stage, little Georgie lets the fame immediately go to his head. He can't help himself from mouthing off to Ed Albee, a theater owner who makes the mistake of offering The 4 Cohan's third billing in his new show (even though it'll double their salary) losing them the opportunity. His reformation comes shortly after he gets the shit kicked out of him by his father and a roaming gang of theater-going children because sometimes scrubs gotta get hit. The family then spends the next 10 years floundering around from city to city until George meets Mary, an "18-year-old" girl who visits him backstage to get advice on how to start in showbusiness. After fucking with her to test the waters on a potential grandfather fetish, he claims he can get her a gig with the show.
youtube
George rides his ego right into the next town, having his ingénue change her act last minute to a George M. Cohan original without informing the manager ahead of time. The manager is so incensed Mary replaced the (mysteriously now drunk) dog act with untested nonsense that he fires her, George, and George's family.
"Drunk or sober, the dog act goes on in the next show," might be my favorite line in all the 71 reviews I've written.
Black-balled and suddenly unemployed, Georgie teams up with Mary and starts shopping his material around to whatever producers will take a meeting. After several months of no dough (and with the goodwill of their landlord running thin), George pretends to sell one of his shows so his family will drop his toxic butt and tour without him to earn a bit of cash while "the show is in rehearsal". After they leave, George continues to pedal hoping he will Secret a career into existence.
youtube
"Who's strong and brave, here to save the American way..."
While working the circuit, George teams up with Sam H. Harris, a playwright that is having about as much luck with selling his content as Mr. Cohan is. They con an old man with his wife's money burning a hole in his pocket to buy a show about some jockey named "Little Johnny Jones" that George wrote because he was short and he wanted to star in it.
youtube
The only reason I know this song is because of Steel Magnolias. I also had no idea those weird bottlecap costumes were a real thing; I thought it was something Mary Poppins made up.
youtube
TIL Mr. Jelly Legs here wrote "Give My Regards to Broadway" for this musical in 1904.
With the success of George's Broadway show, he telegrams his family to join him back in New York so they can reestablish the act on a bigger stage. Gaining notoriety has also afforded him the opportunity to recruit big name stars like Fay Templeton, although she doesn't seem very keen on the idea since Mr. Cohan is mostly known for showy displays of patriotism, which she hates for some reason. It isn't until she hears him sing a repackaged "Give My Regards to Broadway" as a love song about living 45 minutes outside the city that piques her interest. The deal is well and truly sold after she hears "Mary", a song he wrote for his sweetheart. When George comes home to his song's namesake, he proposes marriage to take the edge off of some famous lady stealing her gig, and she accepts because her only role in this movie is to be as supportive of George as possible.
The proposal is genuinely adorable, though, as she tells him she loves looking after him, and he says he could cast her for that part for the rest of their lives. When she coyly asks to see some of the script they kiss, and then Cagney improvises the line, "Not bad for a first reading."
Mary is an amalgamation of the real-life George Cohan's two wives, and her song was originally written for one of Mr. Cohan's daughters, of which none are mentioned in this movie. Mary's inclusion was against the advisement of Mr. Cohan, who would have preferred neither of his wives were mentioned at all. The actress who plays her, Joan Leslie, turned 17-years-old on set. Like, I want to reiterate, she was a literal child, and they had to shut down filming early when she was involved because she legally couldn't work at night.
Anyway, George M. Cohan goes peak Americana with his latest show "George Washington Jr.", which features cameos from the boy scouts, veterans, African Americans singing in front of the Lincoln memorial, that fucking racist Teddy Roosevelt, and a seemingly infinite amount of American flags.
After his parents retire to run a farm and his sister gets married, he tries to go "legit" by writing a 3 act play with no songs that bombs. He doesn't have enough time to process his failure before a torpedo sinks the Lusitania. George tries to tap dance his way into the army but they reject him for being too advanced in age at an ancient thirty-nine years old. Instead, they argue he is much more valuable writing catchy propaganda for the troops.
youtube
After the war ends, George continues to make bangers (like more than 40 of them, dude's a workhorse). At that pace, it was common for him to have multiple shows running on Broadway at the same time. Sometime off-camera his mother and sister die, with his father following soon afterward. With his entire family gone, George processes his grief by quitting showbusiness and touring the world with Mary. He then takes an attempt at retirement on the farm until his old partner Sam calls asking him to come back for one. last. show. And take a guess who he wants George to play.
youtube
Now back at present day, we discover that FDR didn't call up Mr. Cohan for some late-night pillow talk. He wanted to award George M. Cohan with the Congressional Medal of Congress "for his Contribution to the America Spirit". Mr. Cohan is so touched by the gesture that he dances his way down the stairs, which is something Cagney improvised because he's in the top 10 most charming men who have ever been born.
youtube
Here's where I have the privilege of telling you that this is clearly not how the real George M. Cohan was awarded The Congressional Gold Medal of Honor for songwriting. While Cohan was a democrat and initially supportive of FDR, he did not approve of the president's view on unions. Cohan was a staunch union buster (sad trombone), so he refused to pick up his award for 4 years in order to avoid meeting with the president with the hope that his term would run out. FDR eventually was like, 'dude, come and get this thing it's taking up space', and Cohan begrudgingly accepted it in 1940 out of duty for his country. Apparently all was forgiven once Roosevelt hugged him, although I'm not sure it changed either of their opinions on labor laws.
It's a shame I'm not a blind flag-waving patriot, because this film is delightful. It's hard not to fall in love with the characters, and I genuinely laughed out loud in several parts at their dialogue. James Cagney can easily take credit for the majority of this - his improvised bits brought Mr. Cohan to life. I let out a surprised yelp when he took off his old man toupee, threw it on the ground and stomped on it - who thinks of that?? He even reprised this role several years later in The Seven Little Foys (Eddy Foy Jr. made a brief cameo in Yankee Doodle Dandy depicting his father). Like with Barbra Streisand and Fanny Brice, I'm sure going to have a hard time separating Cagney's depiction of George M. Cohan from his real-life counterpart.
If you can stomach a film that whole heartedly celebrates this quagmire of a nation (and full transparency, I failed last year because I just had my reproductive rights snatched away from me and was exhausted from googling which doctors in my state would give a single woman with no kids a tubal ligation), it's a pretty entertaining watch.
My mother thanks you, my father thanks you, my sister thanks you, and I assure you, I thank you for reading! If you’ve enjoyed this post, please consider helping me fund this project by donating to my ko-fi :)

yuta's room becomes the unofficial sex room of the house since its the one with all the toys and stuff in it, so i imagine the kids are generally not allowed in there just in case. of course exceptions are made when reyna decides that she needs her dad in the middle of the night but going into that room without an adult is almost always an absolute no no.
Oh you can bet money the door is locked at all times once Reyna is born. They’re not taking ANY chances. Even if he’s home, Yuta has the door locked, and Reyna knows that if she ever wants to see him while he’s inside for whatever reason, then she needs to knock or find one of her other parents- Cuz there’s physically no way for her to get inside lmao.
But in the middle of the night, when she gets a nightmare, she wants her chichi real bad, so she stumbles towards his room, rubbing her sleepy eyes. She knocks, “Chichi…..” she pouts quietly to not wake anyone up. “Chichiiiii…….” But no one’s answering the door. She huffs and goes to Johnny’s room where her mom is sleeping, “Eoma…” she shakes Ahri awake, “Eoma, can you wake chichi up? I had a nightmare.” Ahri sits up and grabs Reyna, propping her on her hip as she stands, “You okay?” Reyna sniffles and nods, “I want to cuddle with chichi.” Ahri sighs and carries Reyna back to Yuta’s room. She knocks louder and more adamantly than Reyna had, “Yuta, open up.” It takes a few min, but Yuta eventually opens up, his long red hair all tangled and sticking to his face, his eyes not even open when he mumbles, “What is it?” “Reyna had a nightmare.” Ahri hands Reyna over to Yuta. He puts her on his hip and steps out of his room, making sure Jungwoo isnt bothered by them since he’s fast asleep in Yuta’s bed after a, uh, long night of adult cuddling! “Let’s get you back in bed,” he tells his daughter in Japanese. With a kiss on Ahri’s cheek and using his free hand to pat her ass, Ahri is sent back to bed in Johnny’s room while Yuta takes Reyna back to her room. “What scared you, princess?” “The monster in my closet.” “What monster?” “The one like in that movie you and daddy were watching earlier.” Yuta sighs to himself. He and Mark thought Reyna was in her room coloring while they were watching The Babadook in the living room….. They didn’t realize she was lurking and watching, scarring her childhood. Great. “That’s just a movie, baby.” He slides Reyna into bed then cuddles up with her. “No monster’s gonna hurt you.” “Promise?” “Hai. Monsters are scared of me, remember?” Reyna nuzzles her face against Yuta’s chest. “Remember, these guys are here to protect you too…” He reaches for the stuffed animals on her bed— He had Yu and Uta plushies custom made for her. He balances them on top of Reyna’s hip, and when they fall, they both giggle and reach out for them so that Reyna can hug both Yu and Uta simultaneously while still hiding her face against Yuta’s bare chest. “But Uta isn’t scary, chichi.” “What? She’s scarier than Yu.” “Really?” “Yeah. Monsters are scared of girls ‘cause they’re so powerful and cool. So that’s why they’re scared of you more than you’re scare of them.” “But chichi and Yu will still protect me, right?” “Of course.” “Good.” Yuta smiles to himself and squeezes Reyna. At least she’s not upset anymore and can fall asleep while cuddling her dad and her two plushies.

Day 14
We're almost halfway through the month and the last few days have been pretty heavy. If anyone read all four days' worth of “bipolar” writing, thank you so much and I'm so sorry. And if anyone has read all fourteen days' worth of writing total , besides S-, who reads everything I write, I don't know what to say. Anyone who reads my writing and enjoys it moves me to continue my craft, and I am exceedingly grateful. So today's thousand words is going to be about my love of storytelling.
We've already established that I love reading, and I love writing. I also love movies and TV shows, Youtube and/or Tiktok videos and online articles: stories can unfold in so many different ways. From an anecdote over coffee to an epic tale at the cinema, storytelling shapes and enriches my life. I love a story that makes me laugh or just feel good, that's why my go-to favorite shows are comedies and slice of life anime. I also love something that stretches my imagination or makes me reflect, and that is why I love science fiction.
When I was little, my parents would rent a few movies over the weekend, and that would be how we would unwind as a family, we'd watch together. After S- and I got married, we would rent movies too, but he would rent movies he'd seen that I hadn't and I would rent movies that I'd seen and he hadn't, so we could get to know each other's tastes. He only messed up twice: he had me watch Twelve Monkeys (1995) and Hero (2002). I would probably be able to watch them at this point in life, but then I was too sensitive, and those movies made me cry uncontrollably. S- was very distressed.
One of my very best friends took a cinematic course in college where she learned about film noir, westerns, and I can't remember the third genre. Anyway, she would come over and we would watch classic movies from One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest (1975) to In the Heat of the Night (1967). I was used to classic movies because my mom loved old musicals, but exploring everything from Hitchcock's works to Casablanca helped me to develop a taste for pacing, dialogue, jump scares and plot twists.
When S- and I were dating, I told him how much I had loved the movie Serenity (2005). When he figured out that I had seen the movie but was unaware of the show, he went out and bought the DVD box set and I watched it. Apart from some TV shows I had watched as a kid, like 3rd Rock From The Sun and The Pretender, oh, and of course Star Trek Voyager, I didn't watch that much TV. Our TV was reserved for movies; we didn’t have Cable.
So S- and I started renting or buying certain boxed sets of TV shows on DVD, from House MD to Babylon Five and Stargate SGI + Atlantis. I developed such an obsession with the Stargate world that I wrote a fanfic about Elizabeth Weir, called Weir's Gate. It's the only fanfic I have ever written. When we finally broke down and got Netflix, we started watching a lot of shows, and some of them were anime. Thanks to anime, I started reading manga, because I wanted to know how the stories continued.
Anime on Netflix led to anime on Crunchyroll. That was when my appetite for slice of life formed. From Laid Back Camp to Chihayafuru, I love to immerse myself in Japanese culture. We didn't keep Netflix. I know, what's wrong with us? Crunchyroll seems to suit us better, as does Disney Plus. If we start subscribing to all the streaming services out there, we'll go broke. We have to pick and choose. I'll be honest, even though I have a healthy (or unhealthy, depending on your point of view) love of science fiction, it wasn't until The Mandalorian that I started to have affection for Star Wars. Please don't hurt me.
So the point I am trying to make is that as time has gone on, I have found all these different formats of stories to entertain me, from musicals as a kid, because my mom had four VHS tapes that my sister and I would watch together, to science fiction and sitcoms as a young adult, and also anime, in healthy doses, as well as classic black and white movies: my tastes in stories are ever evolving. And that is only visual media. In my reading I have discovered authors like Ken Follett and Barbara Kingsolver. Plus we lived near a comic book store for a few years, so I accumulated TPBs and graphic novels!
My daughter recently introduced me to certain Youtubers who tell stories through their artwork, most notably Neytirix. One of her videos features her garden, and how she fixed it up with the help of her mom, and at the end of her video she shares the art piece that she was inspired to create from her experiences. Spoiler alert: it is breathtaking. Another artist who uses nostalgia in her storytelling quite a bit is Whatsupbeanie, who I first started following on Instagram, but now also follow on Tumblr.
Most of the stories I enjoy are wholesome. From Fred Astaire to Alina Tysoe, all my life I have gravitated to something visually colorful and uplifting. And yet. Sometimes I crave a story that will destroy me. Run me through, pierce me to my very soul. Why? I have no idea. And yet other times I want to escape to a completely different reality: far off in the future or far off on some distant planet. All of these tastes are reflected in my writing. We write the stories we would like to read. Or at least we should. Our stories should stir us first. When I cry while writing a scene, S- cries while reading it, I kid you not.
So to cap it all off, what I am trying to say is with each passing year I am honing my skill as a storyteller through my love of stories. I'm not copying or plagiarizing, I'm absorbing. I'm assimilating and creating my own spin. Because nobody can tell a story the way I can, and I can't tell a story the way anyone else can. I need to embrace my distinct perspective, my distinct style, my choice of words. A close friend told me recently that I can't write a weak character. That made me want to try. She also told me my weak character would turn out to be strong in the end. That is probably true. Some of my friends REALLY know me well.

Top 10 movies watched in 2022
With this second 2022 in review post it's finally time to announce the best 10 movies I watched this year. Before we properly begin, I must explain that I included all the movies I watched for the first time in 2022. This means some of the movies in the ranking might have been released in earlier years (although I admit most of them are from 2022).
With that out of the way, let's begin:
10-Encanto (2021)
Beautiful animation, great characters, an important message and an iconic soundtrack. What more could one ask for?
9-The House (2022)
I know a lot of people disliked this move, but I found it haunting and weird in the best of ways. The stop-motion is really unique and takes the eerie vibes of the stories to the next level.
8-Apollo 10 ½: A Space Age Childhood (2022)
This movie is just so charming. It made me feel so much nostalgia for a time in which I didn't even exist yet. I think most people can relate to the story and the characters, even if you didn't grow up in the 60s.
7-Shiva Baby (2020)
I don't think I've ever seen something quite like this movie. It's pretty much a comedy, but with the cinematography, directing and the music you'd find in a horror film. It's hilarious, claustrophobic and anxiety-inducing. Truly one of a kind.
6-Dune: Part One (2021)
Villeneuve is a science fiction master and one of the best filmmakers in the world. Incredible production values, great acting and an absorbing story make for an unforgettable experience.
5-Drive My Car (2021)
It's slow paced and long in that way that Japanese directors have mastered, but this goes the extra mile and becomes something truly special. It's not for everybody, but if you're on the same wavelength you'll love it.
4-Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery (2022)
Rian Johnson does it again and reinvents the whodunnit genre with another surprising, hilarious and thrilling movie. Let's hope he keeps making sequels for a really long time, cause I could watch a thousand of them.
3-Turning Red (2022)
The animation is delightful and refreshing, and the story is relatable for anyone who has gone through puberty. It just perfectly captures what it's like to be 13. Also, kudos to the soundtrack too.
2-Everything EveryWhere All At Once (2022)
What can I say about this movie that hasn't been said alrady. It's relentlessly original and an audiovisual marvel. And, on top of that, it wears its heart on the sleeve with a beautiful underlying message that makes sure the movie has as much substance as style.
1-Flee (2021)
What an incredible movie. It takes a very refreshing approach to documentary filmmaking, but it never forgets how important its story is and makes sure to give it the focus it deserves and needs. A must-watch.
Bonus:
Tbh, if I had seen it for the first time this year, Better Days (2019) would have probably been number 1. When I first watched it, I was not in my best moment and I found the movie too heavy and grim, so it didn't even make my yearly top 10. I rewatched it in 2022 and I was just floored by how good it was. So yeah, it deserrves a mention.

You've probably answered this before, but here goes anyway! Which BLs are your absolute top 15? Any country, any pairing, any tropes! I really wanna hear your list :)
Also, top 5 for absolute worst BLs!
Absolute Top 15 Best (and Worst) BLs
To be perfectly honest I hadn't done this yet because I've been patiently waiting for 10 BLs to exist in the universe that i've rated 10/10. It hasn't happened yet so...
Absolute Top 15 BLs
No particular order, these are all my beloved babies.
RATED 10/10
1. Seven Days (Japan 2015)
One of the best live action yaois ever made, with perfectly structured angst, fantastic characters and acting, and no problematic tropes (rare in Japanese BL). The leads have excellent chemistry although it’s low heat there’s still some really cute mutual kisses.
Popular first year Seiryo has a policy of going out with any girl who asks… for one week. On a lark, third year Yuzuru tests to see if that policy also applies to boys. Seiryo agrees that it does. Along the way they accidentally fall in love, although each is convinced the other one thinks it’s just for a week.
Full review here. Last I checked could find it on DramaCool in 2 parts Seven Days: Monday - Thursday, Seven Days: Friday - Sunday) sometimes it shows up on YouTube.
2. Color Rush (Korea 2021)
A unique paranormal twist elevates this classic high school drama into a pitch-perfect allegory for the queer coming out experience and one of the best BLs of all time (I will fight you on this).
Monos can only see in grey scale, until they meet their probes. But when they do, monos can turn into obsessive monsters over the one person that turns on the world color. When Yeon Woo meets his probe, however, that boy seems a lot more obsessed with him.
Full review here. I did not like the 2nd season as much. Color Rush is on Viki. Watch the movie version.
3. Light On Me (Korea 2021)
Korea does an elegant pastiche of traditional live action yaoi but all tropes are cleverly deployed to bolster one of the most riveting love triangles ever put on screen… and I don’t like love triangles!
TaeKyung is a bit awkward and introverted and has never really wanted friends, but suddenly he thinks that might have been a bad life choice. So he joins the student council where he meets, among others, two very different boys who both want more than friendship from him.
Light On Me is on Viki.
4. To My Star (Korea 2021)
It’s is a touch quirky to get into, but utterly charming once it hits its stride. This is the ultimate grumpy/sunshine pairing plus the most appealing light-filled kitchen of our dreams.
Famous actor (adorable bundle of neurosis) takes refuge in the house of a reserved chef and is immediately smitten by Mr Tall Dark & Glowering. The chef is also smitten but refuses to admit it to himself or anyone else.
Full review here. (I did not like season 2 as much.) To My Star is on Viki.
5. We Best Love 1 & 2 (Taiwan 2021)
WBL is composed of two parts: We Best Love: No 1 for You & We Best Love: Fighting Mr 2nd. The 1st season is a short run classic university set BL combining the best of Korea & Thailand’s modern takes on genre. The 2nd season moves into the office, and employs Japanese style in terms of setting, obsession, and mature concepts. WBL thus successfully managed to pick up and combine the best features of Korean, Thai, and Japanese BL as it exists right now. Couple that to the insane chemistry from the leads, and we have one of the greatest BLs of all time, cooking to a recipe I doubt anyone else will ever be able to replicate since only Taiwan is this flexible.
Story wise it’s pretty classic: Shi De has been in love with Shu Yi since childhood, but Shu Yi has always seen them as rivals. In university, events finally conspire for Shi De to make his move. It’s the ultimate tsundere uke versus the ultimate pining seme. Part two follows them into the workplace after a breakup.
I love this show so much, odds are I’m currently rewatching it as you read this. WBL is on WeTV.
6. Until We Meet Again (Thailand 2019)
Thailand’s only entry in my 10/10 category (from the BL mass producer). This is non BL trope reliant fated mates (AKA soulmates) romance that just happens to have the right setting and age of protagonists to fit the BL genre. UWMA is a work of narrative genius, and all the actors all turn in stellar performances, it is the best Thai BL from a storytelling perspective. Possibly the best BL story we’ll ever get. It also takes full advantage of Thailand's signature full treatment, never dragging despite 17 full episodes.
Timid sweetheart Pharm meets older serious Dean on his first day of university and is both irresistibly drawn to him and inexplicably sad. Dean starts an intense slow courtship but they both begin to realize they’ve been through this all before and one of them, 30 years ago in a previous life, made a terrible mistake. Can their current selves survive the sins and betrayals of their past?
UWMA can be seen on YouTube.
7. Semantic Error (Korea 2022)
Korea hits it entirely out of the Parks (pun on the actors’ last names intended) by doing a university set BL with everything we might expect but done exactly right, their signature quality executed perfectly, and added bonus good story, great pacing, and fantastic chemistry. This one is actually flawless. You cannot ask for more from a BL, let alone a KBL.
Talented graphic artist Jaeyoung (emotional agro older seme) discovers Sangwoo has outed him as a slacker which means he’s not graduating this year. He sets out to find out who Sangwoo is and get revenge, accidentally develops a big o’crush. Sangwoo is a morally grounded strict routine based reserved programmer (logical uke) who’s world is entirely shaken by the chaos that is Jaeyoung. I love “the only one who can bully him is me” trope especially when said bully melts into all over whipped for his boy.
Jaeyoung pined like a master. Like Park Seo Ham took lessons from Sam Lin. And Sangwoo crumbles into complete submission like he’s been waiting for Jaeyoung his whole life. It’s an absolute pleasure to watch these two on screen together.
Full review here. Semantic Error is on Viki.
8. Our Dating Sim (Korea 2023)
This is a perfect short form KBL, an office set reunion romance featuring geeks that really suits 8 eps with no fluff and no chaff. I adored every aspect from the casting to the pristinely simple premise to the quietly smooth execution. Sure it’s low stakes, but that makes it high domesticity and extremely warm and gentle.
This is a fuzzy blanket of a story - a cozy BL. It lives in my rewatch pile and you know what’s best about it? Every single episode is in that pile. There’s no skipping with this one, it might be good natured and calmly sweet but it’s tight and the pacing is excellent. Full review here.
On Viki. You want the series NOT the movie version.
9. I Cannot Reach You (Japan 2023)
AKA I Can't Reach You AKA Kimi ni wa Todokanai
This classic friends-to-lovers BL is everything Japan does best. Angsty. Emo. Aching. Driven by real thirst. Yamato is deeply in love with his childhood bestie, Kakeru, and has been for ages, unable to hide his ungainly damaging high school need. He wants Kakeru in every way possible and it oozes off of the screen.
Kakeru is silly and a little simple, but not frenetic or overly camp about it. He is earnest, and genuinely wants to keep Yamato in his life which means giving a romance (and gayness) a fair chance. We watch him realize his affection and what form it can take in a truly authentic way.
This show was impossibly kind to both of its lead characters (and all of the sides) and I felt almost honored that I got to watch something so lovely and rare play out on my screen. (Full review here.)
Kimi ni is not widely available. Some Netflix have it. It's indie subbed.
These are the only 9 BLs (of over 600+ watched & judged) that I've rated 10/10.
I consider Absolute BL 1 & 2 (Japan 2021-2022) mocumentaries and not true BLs. But I also gave them both 10/10.
But you asked for 15 so here are 6 more (again no particular order).
RATED 9/10
HIStory 2: Crossing the Line (Taiwan 2018) - Taiwan’s best example of classic BL with a sports romance foundation using some of the most prototypical (but fortunately least offensive) yaoi tropes (Viki)
Be Loved In House: I Do (Taiwan 2021) - a cute classy office set BL with a few plot raised eyebrows, but no other concerns, plus ALL THE TROPES and a general sweet softness that’s pretty rare from Taiwan, who usually prefer to go hard (Viki)
Utsukushii Kare AKA My Beautiful Man (Japan 2021) One of the best most traditionally live action yaoi to release in the last decade. It used seriously old school manga derived problematic and kinky tropes, like whipping boy, for a truly classic piece that also manages to hit up modern themes of communication, consent, and self acceptance. It’s a wonderful BL, uniquely dirty and harsh in the best possible way. (GaGaOOLaLa)
Bad Buddy (Thailand 2022) - GMMTV’s flagship BL started 2022 on a BANG (okay no actual banging but you know what I mean), starring heavy hitters Ohm & Nanon in a pitch perfect university Romeo & Romeo masterpiece that will give you domesticity meets pain whiplash throughout and jet lag at the end. (YouTube)
Cherry Blossoms After Winter (Korea 2022) - Korea took on early Japanese sweet yaoi but gave it their signature softness and precise production style with a STUNNING color palette (beautiful pastels, sun-saturated over-exposure), manga framing style, some traditional BL character archetypes, that tiny edge of bullying roughness and out-of-control seme, plus FINALLY a palatable take on the stepbrothers trope and it was, in a word, classic. Sophisticated and understated CBAW is not slow, it’s just subtle. It's dream-like and atmospheric, as if the whole thing took place under cold water on a warm spring day. Is there plot or peril? Not really. Do we care? Also, not really. Look, I can’t help it, I’m old school and so is this show. I grew up reading sweet yaoi, and this was THAT YAOI just on my screen. There’s no objectivity with me and CBAW. It’s a beautiful pastiche and I loved it for how it made me feel and what it reminded me of. It’s not flawless, but it is a wonderful quintessentially BL experience. (Viki)
Takara-kun and Amagi-kun (Japan 2023) - Reserved cool kid who must lean to communicate to keep the tiny disaster nugget he’s madly in love with. It is beyond charming: soft and gentle, packed with cuteness and high school angst. Did anything actually happen? No. Was it emotionally tense and paced well enough for me not to notice? Absolutely. Was there plot? Not really. Did I enjoy the hell out of it, anyway? Oh yes. Full review. (Viki)
I have quite a few more 9/10 ratings then these but I tried to pick the ones that were the MOST BL-ish of the BLs. (Which is why Old Fashion Cupcake - my beloved - didn’t make the cut.)

this post subject to change as my taste does, and as new BLs appear, however tumblr has a bug where it will stop me from editing old posts suddenly and without warning. So at some point I may have to redo it.
So this is dated Nov 2023 - not responsible for great BL after that point.

Game over
Tw: poorly written
The cashier looks you up and down, then back at the game you were purchasing. "You sure ya' want this game?" she questioned in a judgemental tone. You scowl at her attitude, "yeah. My friend has been bugging me to get it." you weren't lying, but this wasn't the game your friend bothered you into buying. This game intrigued you more than the game you were originally meant to buy.
"Dating in Morioh Cho." the cashier reads the title out loud. Her expression changes, "ah, I remember this game. The boss found it in an old box of games. If I remember they were from Japan in the 90’s." she scans the game case and places the game into a small plastic bag.
You grab the bag and walk towards the exit, you halt your next action when the cashier shouts at you, in an attempt to grab your attention. "Hey, the game may not work. Feel free to bring it back whenever."
The breeze of the A.C greets you at the door when you enter the house. It felt so nice to be in a cool environment; the summer heat was unforgiving most of the time. No matter where you were, you found yourself melting from the sun's radiation. The only time you weren't an ice cream melting into a puddle was when you stayed inside your house, where the A.C was.
You grab cold water from the fridge and walk towards your room. As soon as the door opens you flop onto your bed, the chilly untouched sheets cool your skin. You grab the plastic GameStop bag and take out the game. The cover of the game is pretty interesting, the cover has a purple heart with an arrow piercing it, in bold letters the title says "Dating in Morioh Cho."
You open the case, hurting your fingertips in the process. Inside was a filthy disk covered in dust and smudged with fingerprints from someone's dirty hands. You take the hem of your shirt and clean it off. Now that the disk was clean, you place it into your console.
Before anything appears on the screen, sentimental music fades in setting the mood. You could only describe the music as watching the sunset with a significant other. The sky is a blend of yellow and pink, you have your head laying on their shoulder: Something nostalgic in an old romantic movie.
The opening starts and shows a Japanese school. Four options pop into the screen: Start dating, settings, new game, and chat.
You were confused why there was a chat option. This was a dating simulator. Why would you need to chat with anyone? Not wanting to think much about the weird option you press the 'start dating' option.
Narrator: Your legs start to burn as you pedal your way towards school. You needed to make it before you were tardy. Due to the rapid speed of your bike, you began to lose control. You swerve left and right to give you less of a chance of crashing or getting hit by any incoming cars. A rock in the road causes you to fly in the air; you close your eye awaiting the pain from hitting the concrete. Unexpectedly something catches you before you hit the ground.
???: are you okay?!
Narrator: you open your eyes to get a look at your Savior. He had deep blue eyes and a unique well-kept haircut. wait a minute, this was Josuke Higashikata, the most popular boy in school.
Josuke: hey, are you okay? You could have gotten hurt.
Before josuke's character's lips moved while his dialogue auto-played. But his character just looked at you in awe. "Maybe it's a glitch." Josuke's character quickly pulled itself out of its trance as his lips moved as the dialogue played.
Josuke: You're new. What's your name?
Enter name; (y/n)
You have entered the name y/n.
Josuke: wow! You have a pretty name.
Narrator: A smile expands on the teen's face, he had seen you around school a few times. This was the first time he'd ever spoken to you. He helps you onto your feet.
Josuke: Wanna walk to school. I'll carry your bicycle.
Y/n: yeah, I don't mind.
Narrator: the two of them start to walk to school, they introduce themselves to each other. They found themselves in a conversation about their interests, surprisingly they both enjoyed prince and fashion. They became so interested in the conversation they didn't notice they had already arrived at their destination.
You became obsessed with the game after a few months. The bizarre thing was no one recognized the game you spoke of. You decided to look online for the game, maybe there was a fandom. All the results google gave you told you the game ceased to exist, which confused you since you had the game, whatever.
Josuke and you had passed the friends stage, now you were on your first date. Tonino's restaurant was the first background in the game that wasn't the school. It was refreshing to have more scenery.
Josuke: I and my best friend Okuyasu used to come here often. We don't anymore, he's a phony now. All the people here are fake, except you and me.
Y/n: Don't worry JoJo, I won't leave ya'
Narrator: Josuke flushes at both the nickname and your words. He attempts to cover up his red cheeks by turning around where his back was facing you.
Josuke: thanks...It gets lonely at times.
Narrator: Not soon after Tonio arrives with a plate of spaghetti. When Tonio read your palms he decided to give you a plate of spaghetti because, in his words, "you both remind me of the tramp and the lady."
Narrator: The two ate their food, trying their best not to maintain eye contact with each other. It was a bit embarrassing they were eating from the same plate, both fighting over whom gets the next meatball.
Josuke: oh, I forgot. If you are too tired to play the game, you can chat with me. You can chat with me by clicking 'chat' in the menu.
Now it made sense for the reason the option was there. Not only that, you wouldn't have to wait for everything to load. It was clever.
Josuke: anyway, I don't think I've ever said this but-"
Narrator: Josuke shifts his position and places a hand on his cheek while he stares deeply into your eyes.
Josuke: you're beautiful. Everything about you is; your hair, smile, eyes. Hell, I really think that (band name) shirt is cute on ya'.
You paused at the mention of your shirt. How'd he know what shirt you were wearing? You carried on with the game. To you, it could have been some bizarre coincidence.
-
Every day after school, you and Josuke chated online. He was fun to converse with. You wanted to talk to him more than you wanted to speak with your actual friends. Embarrassing as it was, you started to develop a crush on Josuke. But in your defense, Josuke seemed so human. He responded to your massages felt like a random teen boy who definitely wasn't a video game character.
The more time you spent with Josuke, the more Josuke became...obsessive. If you didn't reply to Josuke's texts he'd text you every two seconds, "y/n why aren't you talking to me?" "Stop talking to that asshole and talk to me!" "Who are you with?" These questions and texts freaked you out. How would he know you were talking to a guy?!
Random times you would find your computer screen on with Josuke staring dead at you. Did you leave the game on unconsciously?
Even though you had already looked up the game and got no results, you had to look up Josuke's name. Many articles popped up. From reading most of the articles, you got the story. Josuke Higashikata was a student in Morioh Cho. One day he vanished with no trace left behind.
Your eyes widened when you saw an image of the boy. Josuke looked just like the Josuke in the game.
This game was possessed. That was all you needed to take it back to the GameStop.
You paced around in circles in your room while you clutched your phone. "Gamestop is closed?!" you repeated your friend's words in disbelief. "They don't close today!" this situation was freaking you out. All you wanted to do was get rid of this cursed game. "Fine, I can wait. I'll get rid of the game tomorrow." with that, the conversation was over.
You walked over towards your computer with the game case in hand. You reached over to the disc but stopped when you saw the computer screen in the corner of your eye. "Josuke...?"
Josuke stood still as he watched you, his chest lifted up and then down like he was breathing. His eyes held no sign of life in them, which scared you. "Y/n, what are you planning to do tomorrow?" Josuke spoke for the first time. His voice was pixelated and hard to understand.
By instinct, you rushed to unplug the computer. When you looked back at the computer, Josuke hadn't left his spot. He seemed more pissed off than he was before. "You're taking the game back, aren't you." he grits his teeth. "How are you talking to me?!" you asked searching around for something to whack the computer. “I’m a real person y/n. I’m imprisoned in here.” You began to back away from the computer once you realized Josuke was getting closer.
Josuke’s hand extended out until his hand came out of the computer screen. His pixelated hand turned into a fleshy hand. He was coming out of your computer! You flew to the door, slammed it open, and raced down the flight of stairs.
Josukes shouts of your name were close, you couldn't care. You made it to the front door, “How?!” you cried out. The door was boarded up. You obviously didn't do it. Was Josuke always able to leave the computer?
You didn't have time to think. Josuke’s stomping was getting closer by the minute. Running out of choices, you hid in the laundry room. You open the dryer and crawl inside. It was uncomfortable. But you could deal with it.
It had been a while since you had heard Josuke. How long? Possibly about 15 minutes. Your legs were sore from the cramped space you had been sitting in, and all you wanted to do was escape and stretch. You decided to escape through the window upstairs. You reached over to open the dryer until you heard the sound of knocking.
“Babe, I know you're in here. Be good and come out. I promise your punishment won't be as bad.”
