Voldemort returns, looking punchably smug and carrying the largest stuffed lion Harry has ever seen. Competitive git. Harry holds his stuffed snake a little tighter and ignores the feeling of rejection. He’d meant it as a joke, anyway; there’s nothing to be disappointed about. Voldemort clears his throat. “I propose a trade.” And he holds out the stuffed lion to Harry, his other hand gesturing for the snake. Oh. Harry hands over the snake hesitantly and accepts the lion in turn. Did we just win each other stuffed animals? he thinks.

Summary: The first time Harry broke the taboo, he’d been beyond starving, with little to no choice. The second and third times were much the same.

But the fourth?

That’s when everything changed.

Summary: Harry wanted to be outraged on behalf of the castle that he still considered to be his home. Hogwarts didn't deserve to have a piece of Tom Riddle lodged inside it like a particularly vicious splinter.

But there was something he was annoyed about even more than the fact that he was once again alive at the same time as a once and future dark lord. For the first time in his life, he sympathized with Voldemort, and knew that in this one instance, Voldemort might sympathize with him.

Harry looked at Tom head-on, and said, "Albus Dumbledore is a bastard."

Both turned down for the position of Hogwarts DADA professor, Tom and Harry have a few things to say to each other.

Ahvshsvs laughing at Dumbledore in this fic. "I am happy to have done right by you.", He says, while making another mistake. Aberforth, Tom & Harry bonding over insulting Albus. They got drunk and planned to build a new school- it was hilarious.

"Do you want to grab a drink at the Hog's Head? Dumbledore's brother works there. He can join us in insulting Dumbledore."

Harry should have just let Tom die of old age like any other sane person would have done.

What really endeared me to the Vampire Harry and/or Vampire Tom troupe. COFFIN SHOPPING!!! (⁠≧⁠▽⁠≦⁠) They're idiots who love each other very much. You know that love strengthened, and deepened with time? Yeah, like that. They're everything for each other. I love the whole crew (⁠ ⁠ꈍ⁠ᴗ⁠ꈍ⁠). Harry's endearing habit of knitting clothes for Tom. Artist Harry who draws (or redraws, as Tom makes a...sketch first) Tom's coffin designs ಥ⁠‿⁠ಥ. Vampire Ollivander [insert shaky eyes]. Ginny is our lord and savior for putting up with these idiots. Ron Weasley is also our savior- because of him there are no....casualties. Jealous Tom [insert shaky red eyes]. Fluff- seriously, I read this when I need a pick me up (⁠ ⁠˘⁠ ⁠³⁠˘⁠)⁠♥. Harry laid a hand on Tom’s chest and said, “Okay.” Tom’s anger floundered, replaced with confusion. The harsh, inhuman lines of his face smoothed out as he tilted back, withdrawing from Harry’s touch like it had burned him. “I said okay,” Harry told him. “I do have you, don’t I? You’re right. I choose to be here, with you, and I’ve done that for about seventy years now.”

Summary: Surely what he was dealing with was some level of deity, because quite suddenly the man was standing in front of him. No trace of apparition, no burst of speed. The man had parted through space and now towered over him, translucent and human-like.

Harry offered up his bleeding hand.

Hermit Harry- still magical, though. His lifestyle is so calming, no kidding (⁠ ⁠╹⁠▽⁠╹⁠ ⁠). I love the world building (?) In it where it shows his simple life. Love the cute niffler and the gnome family (⁠ ⁠ꈍ⁠ᴗ⁠ꈍ⁠). Harry taking care of his magical garden and Voldemort supplying the rare seeds ಥ⁠‿⁠ಥ. *Screams* BWVSSGSVSGSGGS VEE AND HARRY'S RELATIONSHIP IS JUST 👌. Mutual Devotion [insert vibing emoji].

Blood glared against pale skin, ruby-bright, gathering in bunches and trickling down a bare chest. The man was so much taller than Harry, so much more, even while still so insubstantial. He eclipsed the world, staring down with those red, unblinking eyes and such pale, scaled skin.

He leaned in to rasp into Harry’s ear, “Worship me.”

Harry/Voldemort. Rated M. 133600 words.

Three men go to the moon to save the world.

If I can read only one fic ever again in my life because of some reason, I choose Almagest.

Beautiful theremin space opera telling a raw story about flawed people. Political, philosophical, romantic, sensual, kinky, funny, literary, musical, passionate, curious, unafraid, desperate, vulnerable, tragic, dark, profoundly human fairytale tempest.

Harry doesn't stop fighting for the right thing. Voldemort is doomed but he won't let "impossible" stop him. Dumbledore is brilliant, flawed and dangerous. They are the beating hearts at the center of the fic. My absolute all time favorite characterizations for them.

The pacing, the scale, the plot, the passion, the dynamics are absolutely incredible. The finale is a brutal victory march. The prose is lyrical and vivid. I don't want to spoil anything. So I am going to leave you with a quote by Ovid used in the fic which gets the vibe of the characters and the story.

"And now the measure of my song is done: The work has reached its end; the book is mine, None shall unwrite these words."

Almagest is a swansong. It burns everything it's got. Feels like a wildfire destroying a forest so that new pine cones can start growing, because "bright rose a different sun".

The perfect fic for New Year's Eve.

I remember seeing so many “Harry potters blood must be liquid luck” jokes but I’m being so fr I actually would love that as a fanfic. Idk like Voldemort finding out his nemesis is LITERALLY made of luck?? He has golden blood?? (Vampire Voldemort maybe ?? 👀) he kidnaps him and keeps Harry locked away (lowkey like repunzal au ngl) and just drinks from him when he needs luck or smthn idk but he keeps Harry taken care of (like pampered) and Harry being the abused child he is just accepts it cus even if Voldemort doesn’t love him like a father (or maybe he does 😃) (creepy old bastard) atleast he takes care of him and Harry can be useful. Also he doesn’t have to die anymore so that’s a plus 🤷 but the liquid luck blood leads to more physical effects besides just the color of his blood. Like he’s unnaturally good at predicting things (he becomes one of Voldemorts generals maybe?) and just seems to always know what to do. Also due to these effects he doesn’t try and run (besides maybe at first) bc nothings telling him he has to, like his mind is perfectly content being Voldemorts arm candy and general and if he has more luck staying then why try and leave?? Anyways they eventually fall in love and rule Great Britain (and maybe the world but like as a shadow government type deal) as a power couple 😘 (also I hc that Harry came to be with Voldemort right around Hogwarts letter time bc that’s when he would’ve been most susceptible and mold able)

The Discreet Gentleman's Connection by pluto (gayrights420) [Drarry, E, 80.4k] 🌼🔥 I had the absolute pleasure of beta-ing for this fic, so when I say it is amazing, it truly is just that. Fast burn on the smut via Floo sex, slow burn on the in-person falling in love. Satisfying in all the best possible ways.

2. A fic that made me laugh

AITA for being "obsessed" with my childhood nemesis? by @rainstormradish [Drarry, M, 4.3k] 🌼📲 Draco on a reddit forum is hilarious just on its own, but the banter and formatting really bring this fic to life. Amazingly creative, had me in stitches!

3. A comfort fic

The Eighth Tale by @letteredlettered [Drarry, E, 12.0k] 💔⏳ An oldie but a goodie. I constantly find myself coming back to this fic and having my mind blown every single time. Time travel timey-wimey angst.

4. A fic with art

Dating Draco - A Visual Game by @itsphantasmagoria [Drarry, M, Video Game] 🌼🎮 This is a fic in video game form!! Amazing art and lovely story where YOU get to make the choices for Drarry's happily ever after.

5. A favorite series

The Journal of Dreadful Things by @lilbeanz [Drarry, G, 112k, WIP] 🌼📖 Hilarious, witty, AND COMES WITH ART!! Lilbeanz draws and writes a wonderfully delightful series starting from Draco's First Year. His characterization had me in hysterics. Book 4 is starting soon!

Moonstruck by @prettyremus [Wolfstar, E, 3.8k] 🔥🐺 Found this gem while scrolling through the werewolf smut tag (don't judge me). I love the switch in dynamic with Sirius taming Remus's wolf through, ahem, rough sex.

7. An unreliable narrator fic

Sea of White by @dividawrites [Harrymort, E, 8.6k] 🔥🤍 Deliciously hot, creepy, and strangely sweet. Love their dynamic here, the unrestrained lust. Harrymort "die" and lose their memories, so, of course, then they bang.

8. A fic that made me cry

Far Apart, Far Away by @unmistakablyoatmeal [Hinny, minor Drarry, T, 1.6k] 💔💍 Infidelity angst has never been this good. I love the layers of emotion in this fic. Quick punchy sections that really pulled me in.

9. A Muggle(?) AU fic

Pleasant Hope by @ac1d6urn, @sinick [Snarry, E, 41.6k] 💔⛪️ Pastor Severus!! The angst, pining, and self-discovery in this fic is superb! I love the interwoven magic and detailed world-building of this little town.

The Last Trial of Peter Pettigrew by @sleepstxtic [Prongstail, M, 20.8k] 💔 🐀 Holy moly, this fic!!!! Is this my new favorite fic?? Possibly. The concept is brilliant, so creative and nuanced. The Peter character study using outsider perspectives is genius. Seamlessly balances canon and new scenes.

11. A pre-canon fic

Careless by @tax-onomic [Luther, E, 1.5k] 🔥🪞 Lucius/Arthur my beloved rare pair!! I am captain of the Luther ship, and Tax's fic hits all the right spots. The pining, the sniping, the prickly personalities with emotional vulnerability underneath! And all in the middle of a hot smut scene. Perfect.

12. A canon-compliant fic

Scottish by thepadfoots [Chedric, G, 749] 💔🌟 Lovely Cho character study focused around her Asian identity and the boy she loved.

13. A fic rated G (more like T though)

Lion-Hearted Girl by MinnieQuill (odainath) [Minmione, G, 4.5k] 💔🦁 I know the large age gap might scare some, but their relationship feels very organic in this fic. The setting is grim, but there is always hope in the darkness!

14. A fic rated T

You're So Vane by @patriceavril [Romelina, T, 6.8k] 🌼💄Romilda is so delightfully characterized, I was smiling through the entire fic. Angelina is the perfect foil (and love interest) to Romilda's attentions.

15. A rare pair fic (less than 2000 fics on AO3)

Snakeskin by @cntrl15 [Bellastoria, E, 3.7k] 🔥👠 Talk about a rare pair! Astoria/Bellatrix only has 2 tagged fics on AO3: this fic and the drabble I wrote based on it. But read this fic, and you'll see why I felt the need to write more in this universe.

16. A fest fic

Master of None by @nanneramma [Snormac, G, 5.5k] 🌼🧘 Severus is so wonderfully cranky, and Cormac is fine AF. The surprise pairing of 2023 that I never knew I needed and now I'm obsessed with!

17. An under-rated fic

Sun, Shadow, Shade by @naomijameston [Snuna, G, 700] 🌼☀️ Post-war fluff. Sunshine Luna is the perfect match for sullen Snape. A short and sweet fic for this underrated ship.

18. A canon-divergent fic

but somebody's gotta do it by nocturn [Pangulus, T, 920] 😄🧟‍♂️ This fic will make you say WTF but also huh, okay that totally works. The concept is WILD but Lyra executes it wonderfully. Pansy drags Regulus out of the inferi lake and they flirt a little while he gets de-corpsified lol.

19. A dark fic

In his embrace by @loneamaryllis [Snarrymort, het!Snarry, E, 48k] ⚡️👀 Dark and dirty but so so good. A Voldemort Wins AU where fem!Harry is taken as prisoner. Snape's mindset as he tries to save her (and is forced to rape her) is so twisted and mesmerizing. Mind the tags!

Ooh, good question! My all-time favorites, probably unsurprisingly, are No Glory and Mine / Hauntingly, all by @obsidianpen.

I haven't read a TON of Harrymort because I've only recently reentered the fandom after many years away, but I am taking recs! Lol

Some others I've recently read and really enjoyed were Consuming Shadows by @childotkw, Heir Apparent by @monsieurclavier, Love in the Dark by @shouldertallabyss, and Surface Pressure by handsonmyheart. I just started reading Hole in the Wall by tomrddle and am vibing with it so far!

Such a hard question, there are a lot of wonderful ones that I really like. But here are a few:

His Darkest Devotion by Lomonaaeren: Soulmate AU but Harry is hiding his mark and trying not to catch Tom's attention because he thinks that Minister Riddle is an evil dark lord. The first chapters are filled with so much tension and the reveal is a great pay-off.

Too old to be this young by Nadia_Castillo: An older Harry travels to an alternative dimension where there's no Voldemort, just Minister Riddle. The dialogue and the descriptions are very funny lkdajsdja

Anytime At All by duplicity: Muggle!Harry and Wizard!Tom have a relationship. The story is beautiful and warms my heart, it made me laugh too kek.

Dripping Fingers by May_May_0_0: Harry draws on Tom's diary and Tom loves his art. The story is really sweet and Harry is just so kind.

Retreat by Lomonaaeren: Arranged marriage AU where Harry is definitely not having a good time. That is until he and Voldemort manage to understand each other and then the story is sweet and kinda cute.

It's A Masquerade, Darling by ChubbyPanda15: Harry does his best to avoid notice and be average at Hogwarts. But Tom sees him and notice his potential and talent and wants Harry to be recognized. The romance is really cute.

Between Thought and Reality by Maeglin_Yedi: Harry travels back in time but he is now in the body of a girl. He changes Tom, gives him another path and and I just find the story really interesting.

Here are a few fics that I find to be especially outstanding and creative and well written.

Amulette d'amour by The_Carnivorous_Muffin, Vinelle (words: 58,092 | not rated | Tom Riddle/Alphard Black)

Tom is commissioned to repair a magical amulet.

Why I rec it: Listen. This fic is absolutely phenomenal. It has a fascinating and well developed exploration of wizarding society, brilliant and highly complex and multifaceted characterization, and very original and unique plotting. It's extraordinarily well written and is both thought provoking and dramatic as well as laugh out loud funny in places. It's not a fic premise or pairing I would ever have imagined but it's legitimately an outstanding piece of writing that will live rent free in your head.

At Your Service by Faith Wood (faithwood) ( words: 95,752 | rating: E drarry )

Hogwarts students are in danger; Harry is determined to save them all. There’s only one thing he knows for certain: Draco Malfoy is somehow involved.

Why I rec it: This is the closest to book 8 that I've seen. Stylistically it really recalls the feel and structure of the canon books and it has a lot of really cool plot developments and world building. It follows on nicely from the rest of the series and expands on whats there. It feels like a book 8 where drarry happens.

It begins with Vernon Dursley’s body, dead across the table. In which Voldemort is dosed with amortentia, and nothing is better for it.

Why I rec it: It takes a crack plot premise and runs with it and really makes it work in a serious way. This fic is DARK and very unique and creative in its plot resolution. It kept me on the edge of my seat and is incredibly innovative and dramatic.

Running on Air by eleventy7 ( words: 74,876 | rating: T | drarry)

Draco Malfoy has been missing for three years. Harry is assigned the cold case and finds himself slowly falling in love with the memories he collects.

Why I rec it: Brilliantly well done characterization and amazing world building and plot. The relationship and characters all develop so naturally and the writing is incredibly beautiful. It never feels rushed and yet you can't put it down.

Denude by Faith Wood (faithwood) (words: 4,172 | rating: E | drarry | CW: Underage)

This is a HBP AU. It's set a few days after the Sectumsempra scene and takes the story in another direction, asking the question: "What if the Sectumsempra scene had a greater impact on Harry and Draco?" Harry and Draco are sixteen. In medias res beginning. Non-linear storytelling.

Why I rec it: Stylistically it feels like it could be taken out of book 6. The characterization and dialogue is so spot on and its very emotionally evocative.

Sparkling Cyanide by Asenora (words: 1,415 | rating: G | Gen | complete)

Tom Riddle had nothing to do with the death of Hepzibah Smith. Hokey had just had enough of being a slave.

Why I rec it: Amazingly creative world building and premise and characterization. It feels brand new and yet wholly plausible and right.

Harrymort. Rated M. 24900 words.

An epic romance which has inspiration from two fairytales.

Harry is Voldemort's prisoner. He is under house arrest in Grimmauld Place. Because he is depressed and bored he starts wearing Walburga's clothes. The fic has that strange beauty of eldritcher's writing where they can start a fic with an outrageous premise and then turn into a heartbreaking love story.

Omphale is the barbarian queen who takes Hercules prisoner. She makes him dress in her clothes and she wears his lion fur and weapons. "She is a better man than Hercules" is the tldr of their story depending on the version.

Beren and Luthien is a famous LotR love story. He sees her for the first time when she is dancing in a forest and wearing a blue dress.

I love how beautiful this fic is about the switching of power and roles. Who is the prisoner? Who is the savior? Who has more power? Who is more dangerous? This fic is a nonstop mindfuck. Luthien/Beren and Omphale/Hercules are powercouples with a lot of switching between gender roles in their arcs! We get to see the same dynamic between Harry and Voldemort in this fic.

Omphale is about Harry. A crossdressing hero who saves the wizarding world when they have lost hope. His strength is love, of course. It's also about Voldemort and his complicated feels about love, gender and power. It's also a race against time adventure to save the world.

Time calls for a hero, and Harry answers, full of poetry and courage, full of love for a foundling lost.

One of the most beautiful fics I have read.

It's amazing to me that even after 20+ years of writing in this ship, there are still so many new themes and tropes and angles to explore.

I’m tired of being ashamed.. I like snake face Voldemort and way to young Harry. Harry being groomed into being his wife, terribly codependent, they disgust and astound everyone around them, they fuck. Idc what age. They fuck. But not infront of the death eaters or anything cus Voldemort is a weird fuck like that. Also he grew up in the 50’s that guy wants a housewife. But also Harry is only docile with him, he is too high above everyone else to show submission around them. Voldemorts death eaters are Harry’s death eaters and they hate it (the death eaters not harrymort ) the death eaters think their lord has been corrupted while the order think Harry is being held captive and doesn’t actually love Voldemort. (He does love Voldemort btw, he’s like his dad AND husband )

I've been a Tomarrymort shipper for just over 6 months now, so it's just too early to reread my favorite fics. But there's always A LOT of discussions of Either must die at the hand of the other by @metalomagnetic on my Telegram channel, so I decided to reread it for the first time. And this fic is just bloody brilliant. It's even better for the second time than the first. It evokes so many emotions for me, and I've never saved as many quotes from any fic as I do from this one. It's absolutely one of the best I've read so far 😭
