Sometimes, when I read/see Tom/V being portrayed as emotionless, idk whether to laugh or cry, coz like...this man literally made all his decisions based on the way others made him feel.

Dumbledore made him feel excluded from the very first minute and the purebloods obviously behaved as they did because he was a 'mudblood'.

And so, they are the main subject of his acts of revenge. He never forgets Dumbledore and he never forgets to make the purebloods bow. Like, this shit is ingrained.

Apart from that, when it comes to Harry, this man literally wasted time he could have spent killing Harry to boast??? And for no reason, coz he literally had shit to be done and a BWL to kill, actively? Like, my man needed his validation, right, it had been 13+ years after all...

It's like...you expect him to be a cold, clinical muder-happy guy, but he's not. He's a red-hot, enraged murder happy guy that will spare you if you fawn over him, no matter how imbecilic or annoying you are (wormy and bella disrespectfully).

He runs purely on emotion, and it was these emotions, namely his 'fear' of death that caused him to go after a literal baby of all things, I'm just saying.

Idk, to me he's less psychopath and more borderline, and there's nothing you can say to change that. Even at 80 he was still all emotion. A smart dummy, if you will, which is why you (I) love him.

Squib!Harry?

For actual squib Harry, I’d likely keep it short, and probably make Neville the BWL rather than Harry. So with James and Lily tortured to death, there’s no one to care what happens to their squib son.

Harry grows up much like he did in canon - under the boot of his aunt and uncle. He doesn’t know why they hate him so much, doesn’t know what he did to deserve their anger and disgust, or what they mean when they call him a ‘freak’.

Unlike in canon, there is no miraculous growing of his hair after that awful haircut, there is no blue-haired teacher, or teleporting onto a rooftop to escape Dudley and his gang.

Unlike in canon, there is nothing for Harry to cling to. No spark of curiosity, no questioning the way of the world, no magic.

Harry suffers in silence for years, and when his eleventh birthday comes and goes without a hint of a letter, Petunia and Vernon are…confused. All these years they had thought - but the boy had never really done anything strange, had he? They wait a month, but there’s not a whisper from Hogwarts. August comes, and still no news, so they begin to wonder if maybe their nephew wasn’t as magical as they had thought.

Just when they start to think they had been forgotten, there’s a knock at the door.

It’s not Dumbledore. It’s not any witch or wizard. No, it’s much worse.

It’s a social worker, brought in by the referral of one of Harry’s concerned teachers, who had noticed the boy’s deteriorating state for months now.

A lot of things change that day.

Harry is taken away, given to an elderly couple a few counties over, and for the first time in his life Harry feels like he can breathe. He grows up, unaware of an entirely different world that rests just beyond his perception, and goes into engineering because knowing how things work satisfies a deep-seated itch inside his brain.

In this world, Harry never hears the name ‘Voldemort’, and never learns that he is defeated by a young man called Neville Longbottom.

But there are many ways this plot line could play out - this was just the first one that sprang to my head.

You could also do one where instead of trying to kill Harry, Voldemort merely bound his magic and then skedaddled. Sirius rocks up, finds baby Harry and the bodies of Lily and James, and then runs after Peter.

Dumbledore steps in to keep Sirius from going to Azkaban, since Voldemort isn’t dead this time and the war is ongoing, and lets him raise Harry just in case they can unlock his magic again.

Harry grows up being trained by Sirius, mainly in a physical sense since he can’t use magic, and starts to focus on being one of the chief strategist / tactician behind the Order’s movements, since he can’t fight on the front lines with them.

Everything changes though when, through pure happenstance, the Order manage to get their hands on a horcrux. Harry, after months of research, finds a way to use the magical energy of the horcrux to unlock his magic (because its a sliver of Voldemort’s soul, the curse on Harry’s magic registers it as the caster).

Only Harry’s magic is volatile. It’s been growing, unencumbered and unused, for years, and now that it’s awake? Oh, now that it’s awake it’s angry.

imagine that there was no BWL and Harry grew up in an orphanage and Voldemort discovers him doing dark magic in one of the empty Hogwarts classrooms because he wants his crush to like him back and Voldemort is so impressed by his ability of doing dark magic so he decides to mentor him in the arts to mold him into the perfect image of himself and overtime as they learn and grow together they begin to have feelings but are unsure of committing but then Voldemort decides to ask Harry out after a battle and he has flowers back in his office but during the battle somebody stabs Harry in the back and he dies and Voldemort regrets never confessing his love for him sooner

Idk if literally anyone else thinks about this, but I’m also always thinking about Harry being all sad because people don’t really see him when they look at him, they see the bwl or his parents

And yeah there’s a ton of people who do see Harry as just the bwl, but like,, outside of like,, the order and a couple of others, most people probably aren’t seeing Harry’s parents in him, like Lily and James weren’t famous till they died (outside of James being the sole heir to an old line, although it does raise the question of if people took issue with him marrying Lily since she was a muggleborn, anyways how many people would care that much about James being the last Potter outside of other old family lines?) so outside of the people they personally interacted with, most probably didn’t pay that much attention to them, whereas Harry is hella famous and has been that way for most of his life

Idk if I can actually articulate my point but anyways once again thinking about a lot of people from the marauders generation ending up in the hp generation, and Harry’s all worried about no one caring about him anymore because he thinks most people only care about him as a replacement for his parents, but a lot of the people from his generation are only excited to meet them because they’re Harry’s parents

Idk it’s also funny to me to think about it being like still in the middle of the war and the order really caring about Lily and James being back and feeling more confident, and outside of like Snape, most of the death eaters and Voldemort aren’t fully sure who they’re looking at for a few seconds, like they’ve just been so focused on Harry for so long, only caring about them when that prophecy came out

(and considering it had to have come out around when Harry was born because due dates are so fickle and he was 1 when they were killed, it had to be max a year till they were found, not too long in the grand scheme of things)

Also I’m imagining that this is more teenage James and Lily, so it doesn’t help that they don’t look exactly how they did before dying

(My reasoning for most death eaters not caring about James and Lily before the prophecy is that I believe the theory that most order members weren’t public knowledge, they didn’t have to go into hiding until the prophecy was made (if DE’s cared about them, no way they wouldn’t have been in a protected house from the start), we don’t really know what defying Voldemort means so it could’ve been anything, doesn’t necessarily mean it was in a way Voldemort would’ve cared about till he sat down to figure out which family the prophecy could be about and was like “oh wait”, and some other reasons that make sense only to me and idk how to word them)

(Like I really think they’d be in the same amount of being famous as Tonks would be pre-prophecy, she’s an order member, she’s an auror like James who probably doesn’t take shit from all those death eaters who should’ve been in Azkaban and are now living normal lives, and she has a dramatic family history, her mom was completely disowned from a very well known family for marrying her dad, when they didn’t even completely disown Sirius!! And then she had a baby with a known werewolf, yet there’s not ever really a sense that she’s that famous or that death eaters care that much about her)

BUT, a part of me does like him, even though i constantly feel guilty about it lol. i accept that he's a bad person who did bad things, but i can't help but feel bad for him, you know?

okay controversial but. teen remus was a victim of james & sirius. like. the marauders were such a stupid classist dynamic of a friend group, i ship prongsfoot because they're the only two that are dickheads enough to match each other. anyways, remus' thing was: he got into a bad situation and Could Not Get Out. his problem solving Thing is just run away, run away, run away, and never look back. at hogwarts, he couldn't do that. there were super popular kids who were his 'friends' and knew his deepest darkest secret. if he hadn't befriended them by luck on the train, he'd probably be another severus, because james and sirius are, again, classist dicks. but, as he did befriend them, he had nowhere to go after that which. as a dude with a fucked up childhood + trust issues + commitment/staying in one place issues,,, that sounds like a nightmare. as an adult tho the things he did were. unacceptable. i feel like they are direct effects from his fucked up youth? like he never got to grow up properly mentally/emotionally? he's still in the 'run away run away run away' mentality always. add being constantly discriminated against bc of something you cant control that people hate you for and its just. kskdhskshf. his life sounds like a nightmare i just can't help but feel for him :(

In a situation where Harry is still the BWL, and blood adopted a New Blood as an older sibling (e.g. Hermione), would they become Heir/Heiress Potter? Would they be able to become Lord/Lady Potter if he were to become High Lord Peverell? If they had their own cottage or something before the adoption, and this becoming Heir/Head of the House, would it become a family residence or remain a personal residence? If so, when does it become a family residence?

In this same train of thought, does the Head of the House have to reside in the family Manor/Castle or do they have to reside in one of the family properties, or can they reside in a private residence?

(I have been thinking about this a lot, lately, if you can't tell)

Yes, that's possible. Per your example, if Harry were Lord Potter and blood-adopted Hermione, she would be Heiress Potter until he had children. If he didn't have children by the time he became High Lord Peverell, she would become Lady Potter and his future children would be Peverells.

I always imagine them living in family-owned properties so they have the safety of blood wards held by the family magic.

So, hypothetically, that cottage would become a family property, but it could be exclusively for Hermione's use until she passes so she has a private place to go.

we can have tomarrymort stories where harry is not a potter, not the bwl and not abused to make him a martyr for dumbledore’s cause and people lap it up and sing praises for good writing but then if you have a tomarrymort story where harry isn’t obsessed with sports, a girl who used him as a emotional crutch to deal her bfs murder, a girl who dated half the boys he knows to get his attention or desserts then you’re forcing an oc on the tomarrymort fandom and you need to get a grip and be honest or leave.

Funny thing, is how Harry is often raised different in those not-a-Potter Harrymort fics and tends to not be interested in Quidditch OR Cho, but no one is attacking those writers for leaving those things out.

What’s so different when a goal-oriented Harry – who only changed because of one or two major events in his early youth – doesn’t care much about a sport(that he was forced into and never told he had the option of saying ‘No’ or quitting in canon) and that makes him ‘too OOC’ but it’s acceptable for a Harry who has anyone else as a biological father and grows up in a different house with different expectations entirely, to not be into Quidditch? To not date Cho Chang or even be interested in her?

Why are things like a sport, a food, and girl he crushed on for a few months, considered the things that make him Harry Potter? Why is it wrong to not make those important to his character in every damn fic? How does taking away being a Seeker, dating Cho, and eating Treacle Tart change who Harry Potter is? What do they really bring to the table?

Why do the things that actually make him Harry Potter, not have to actually appear in a fic for him to still be considered 'In-Character'?

Such as:

Being related to the people who thrice-defied Voldy.

Being prophesied to defeat Voldy.

Being attacked by Voldy because of it and ending up surviving the AK, getting a famous scar, and acquiring a shard of Voldy’s soul in the process.

Being taken away from his legal guardian and shoved onto abusive people that made sure he grew with the mentality that he wasn’t worth shit and that dying for the ‘greater good’ if an old man claims it’s necessary, is okay.

The things that dog his every step and control his future without him knowing it or being able to control it, are the things that shape him as a character.

But nooooooo. If he’s not Ron Weasley-level obsessed with Quidditch(which he never was tbh), salivating over Cho Chang, or mentioning Treacle Tart every chapter, he’s OOC.

Some of y'all just want canon!Harry and that's fine, but stop attacking people just cuz they want to focus on unique parts of Harry to tell the story they've come up with. And dear Christ on a cracker, if he is a totally different person by age 11, based on different experiences, him not playing Quidditch isn't going to make the world end nor make him any less Harry Potter and you're dumb if you say otherwise.

Hi Pen, I hope you're doing great! This may be an odd, random question, but as a big fan of your writing, I do wonder what does Voldemort in your stories think of Neville? Like, does he ever think of what would have happened if had gone after Neville instead or what Neville would be like as BWL? Or is he convinced that he made the 'right' choice and Neville's date of birth was just a coincidence? I re-read the start of NG recently and this occurred to me during their brief interaction...

hm, you know, I don’t think he really thinks of Neville too much. I feel like once he decided it was Harry that the prophecy referred to, that was that, and Neville longbottom didn’t cross his mind again as a potential future threat because he’d decided it was Harry, no way it could be anyone else, LV is always right on these matters, etc etc

Dungeons and Death Eaters - Harry learns how to be a "proper wizard" from a handful of kids in his neighborhood playing DnD

Just a Blade - twin!harry au, Harry lives in the shadow of his hero brother and catches the attention of Professor Riddle right from the start

Aberration - Obscural-Horcrux harry who is out of control, until Voldemort discovers him [actually a prompt from Penrot that i've saved]

War Ravaged - Post-nuclear war Harry steps back in time and stumbles upon 13 yr old Tom Riddle, and he decides, well, why not tell the boy about the future? Tom Riddle is not impressed with the future.
