I've written a few posts now talking about Harry's relationship to his own masculinity and how it relates to his sexuality and privately have been sorta on the cusp around the nebulous idea of Harry's gender identity, but I'm lacking textual evidence which is important to me.

I personally think ultimately Harry's relationship with his gender is broken on a fundamental level the way a lot of men who are subject to the extreme pitfalls of patriarchy often are.

Harry sees and has internalized his gender as being extremely monstrous as well as extremely tactile, his gender mostly exists in or manifests in the meat space that Is Physique.

I think Harry's transfeminine nature would be tied more to his desire to be perceived as non hostile, as something soft and worth loving than an internal sense of femininity.

Harry is just super sexist in a very reactionary and trauma filled way.

It’s so funny you said this because I forgot I have a whooooooole premise for a fanfic where Harry and Kim wind up adopting a kid they rescue from an abusive father they run across during an investigation.

Because like, I think Harry wouldn’t think about having kids actively — again, treating mechanics as narrative, there’s no variables attached to him making comments about being a father. I think it’s just something subconscious in the back of his mind. But confronted with a child in need, especially if it was a child who was traumatized and bonded to him as their savior and needed a home, well… you know how Harry is about Thought Projects.

Kim would take some convincing. I envision it as a foster situation at first — take care of the kid until a more permanent, stable solution turns up. Kim’s good at taking Harry’s flight of fancy and breaking it down into small steps to try until they hit their limit. And this kid is young enough that Kim isn’t reminded of the juvie punks who gave him grief (think of him with Lilienne’s daughter and demanding Harry rubs his face on lamby — he doesn’t hate kids and wants Harry to treat them well). And in the end, I think he’d cave and agree if the choices were that vs. the orphanage. Especially if Harry very earnestly made it clear he has a Plan(tm) and is committed to being on his best behavior.

And it makes me a little insane to think about Kim, being hesitant and cautious and formulating a million emergency procedures in case something fucks up, watching Harry and realizing… goddamn, he is a natural. And having a kid around gives Harry something to focus his energy into that isn’t complaining about being sober or working himself to death. Kim comes back to their shared apartment and Harry’s reading one of Kim’s fantastique novels aloud to a half-slumbering child asleep against his chest, lifting one finger in the universal sign of quiet. And Kim just lingering by the door feeling like his entire world has been altered irrevocably by Harry Du Bois treating a child with the kind of gentleness and love he wishes anyone had given him as a kid.

(Bonus if they’re not even fucking dating at the start of the fic because the idea of “Accidental Co-Parenting to Lovers” makes me scream internally)

You want to know what single line I think about the most out of anything in Disco Elysium?

Harry telling Evrart he would’ve been a great father.

Because it made me insane when I looked through the Fayde viewer and realized there’s absolutely no variables attached to that line. Nothing required for it to be an option — it’s something just innately Harry can believe about himself, a holdover from before — but also nothing new gained from it. It’s never referenced again. Kim says nothing and Evrart brushes it off and moves on.

And why??? Dora brings up the abortion in Harry’s dream completely unconnected to that line — again, something that just innately Harry must have lingered on enough to carry it with him through his amnesia. It makes me insane. It makes me insane thinking about Harrier Du Bois being a father and wanting to be a father so bad that it’s just inherent to who he is… but also that there’s nowhere really for that desire to go….. heartbreaking.

this was one of my favourite disco elysium scenes so i wanted to do a comic based on it, i hope i did it justice! the dialogue is tweaked a little in places to better suit the comic format but i didn't change much

5) ok this is the last one im writing and idk. theres so many good scenes and moments and nevermind. the chair. the fucking CHAIR and evrart. it took me 200hrs to see what happens when u PASS the composure check like. tbh failing this check is basically canon. slide down it like a jello shot. again like the megarich container guy this is one of those possible early moments of 'ou this games a fucking weird comedy' and i just. best way to assert dominance with the corrupt commie boss like 'what a great display of... idek what that was' and im pretty sure u lose a rep point with kim if u fail it too like. kim dont be mad this is just my interogattion technique im not giving the rcm a bad rep i promise kim

actually some honourable mentions: lamby, boardgames with kim, joyce pale convo, kim voice dilligent boy, THE CHURCH I DIDNT MENTION THE CHURCH i love doin the dance after gettin shot its so funny. love the rave kids. shivers voice theres a hole in my heart. the fucking 'lookin to score some d girl!' bit with kim & acele thats comedy gold actually. thats brilliant. i might just start listening everything. pinball with kim when u pass it im just like. kim why dyou sound so smitten . the piss and fuck jackets. actually i really like the whole bit with the working class woman that was Devasting. even more so when i realised u could actually tell her ud look for her husband ...... i liked the jamais vu viscal pleasure wheel bit after (i think that was added with the update? yes it was) altho i dont remember specifics just. his brain reconstructin smth as idk.. smth to make him feel better? felt bittersweet. i should go see that scene again.

ok ill fuckin wrap this up. 'are u... a really good detective?' great line and not a moment per say but. the fact that jean just. hangs around the whirling for several days in that fuckin wig like, obvs he doesnt move spots bcs its a video game (despite the edc lines showin that he does do other shit) cuz u need to know where to find him. but he just fuckin commits like. the character building from all this shit for whats technically a minor character. brilliant. doesnt HE have a fuckin job to do. also titus is always in the whirling for the same video game reason so like. yes. yes to that rarepair.

AND not to mention gartes reaction to it like... u really get the feeling that he Will get rid of the machine if harry fucks it up. however i do like the pass as well bcs a) harrys had enough cringe fail b) jeans deadbeat litany of 'yeah its shit it sucked awful' like. thats how he talks 2 harry when hes being NICE its so funny. het life partners <33
