My dad, was a Super contradiction! Always to me, he was larger than life.... but by his own description he was “Just a big dumb Dutchman”. (He’s def where I got my sarcastic & self-deprecating wit...😜 Oh & the❤️love of a good story) One of the things I always found amusing was his Belleek Porcelain collection. It was something he started later in life and one of the few things he ever collected for himself. His collection rivaled all the store displays I’ve ever seen... combined! He just loved it, this 6’ 3” giant of a man, who was raised dirt poor in a Mennonite family. He never went past the 8th grade, in a one room school house (he taught himself what he needed to learn.) And he worked HARD every dang day... he had this super fragile pottery addiction.😳🤣 So on Super hubs & my trip to Ireland this past week (somewhere that dad had always wanted to visit, but never did). I knew I had to get a piece of this Irish pottery. When I walked into the shop & saw this I knew I was gonna need to get this ONE, home. ♥️🍀The Shamrock line was a huge part of his collection, & till I got to the register I was already tearing up 😢 and started to explain to the cashier, why I needed this mug. 🍀She was so sweet, and waited till my story was over, & what she said next let me know that dad was definitely there with us.❤️💚She said “Well... I know he’d be sayin’ Good on you! Finally Friday! Got me thinking pretty deep this morning (you may wanna step back to avoid the splatter🤣) About how this mug right here came from a ball of clay... a bit of magic, some luck & visions in my head. ( I think we all can agree, that can be a scary place🤪) That less than 3 weeks ago this pot... wasn’t even a thing, but in fact... it’s taken decades to get here. That my past experiences started forming this mug years before I even started working with clay. From my time as a waitress I knew it needed to be light and balanced. Married to an alcoholic new it, like me would need strength. My time as Mom to a boy, I knew it should be able to bounce ... maybe at least once. My time in both retail & as a hairstylist, that it should be pretty or at least interesting and nice to touch. My time as a Cafe cook/owner taught me hard work, & small business things that it would take to sell it. My time in hell, working for a soul sucking corporation (you know who you are!🤣) showed me that, it surely can’t be all there is..... ALL of that got me here, to Super Hubs & Pottery.... and this mug. ❤️ How did you get here?? Miss fancy pants French butter keeper👩‍🎨 (Aka:Butter bell ) A few of you guys asked after the last post, “how exactly does this work???” So I’ve added a video to show how easy it is🤣 Take 1/4 cup of room temp butter and shove it into the lid🤷‍♀️. *Tip: Sticks def worked better🤣 The lid is thrown without a knob so it can sit on the table while filling or using. Then add 1/2 inch of water to the cup side & close. (Easy peasy!) This creates a water tight seal, keeping your butter both fresh & spreadable. 👌 Video credit: Super hubs ❤️ P.s. My first French butter keep. 🎉👌Mucho Bonita! (Which BTW happens to be my given name, no silly.....not mucho🤣😂) Bonita was a name I never really understood, I mean I knew it meant pretty in one language & good in another 🤣😂🤣( obviously... I AM, pretty good) 🤣😂🤣 But why my parents, (who are neither French or Spanish picked it) Something both my Mennonite grandmother and I’ve never understood.... 🤷‍♀️ Also they gave me this fancy, foreign name, then proceeded to only use it if I was in trouble. 🤷‍♀️You know like “BONITA FAYE! get over here!!!” (Which contrary to what you’re probs thinking wasn’t all that often)😜 Most of my life by almost everyone... I’m only known as Bonnie. So why give a “fancy” name, to mostly call you another?? 🤷‍♀️ I know I got a chuckle a couple years ago filling out a form they had me, of course as Bonita, but behind that was: AKA Bonnie...
