Rewatching bridgerton s1 since i first shotgunned it at the drop lol
Still so charming, the right side of campy in the context of regency, there’s some things that they were pretty heavy handed with but I can’t fault them, re things like having to make characters state their feminist agenda in awkward and broad terms, For The Casual Audience At Home Who Doesn’t Get The Genre
Still, my majorly unpopular opinion is that I don’t like Penelope at ALL lmao....... The reveal of who was writing the gossip rag rly shot my interest in the foot, and it took me a long time to pick up s2 bc of it, though I can at least appreciate that s2 did have a theme of ‘consequences’ for her, to some degree. It’s also the reason it’s taken me sooo long to rewatch s1, lmao, having to watch her ultimate act of cruelty, picking up her pen to play mean girl on anon and nearly ruining that girls life. Having to watch her pretend to befriend her all over again knowing what she’s going to do, in the end. Yuck!
dgmr, I actually think there’s a lot of humor in Penelope and Eloise, and can def appreciate them as two privileged white children going into their woke teen era for the first time, while still being a little selfish about it. It’s realistic. I think watching them grow apart bc Eloise was ready to start maturing in her beliefs, while Penelope wasn’t, was also an interesting direction to take that in, though I’ve got Thoughts about how it unfolded... Hopefully, in her season, she’ll grow up and I’ll enjoy the romance, even if I can’t forgive her for outing that girl’s business, whether she was trying to baby trap a Bridgerton or not!!
Anyway, my real takeaway from Bridgerton is that every single old woman in this show ATE. Watching the primary trio of older women in this show bring so much dynamic life to their characters is so enjoyable, they played them perfectly from the start, and the depth and weight given to them beneath being genre standard Matchmaking Matriarchs is so cathartic even tho I am literally a young person
#this isnt rly for anyone just waiting for something to finish#i could go on and on and on about it but anyway i am excited to get to s2#where they had the budget and slightly more subtlety for a more polished romance#ppl turned on s1 so fast bc the heat was searing in s2 but IT IS THERE FOR S1 I WILL WRITE ANOTHER POST BAOUT THIS LATER#i'm at the art gallery part... the establishment of the almost hand touch hold me.......#the fact that it happens every season isnt something i will ever take for granted itll snatch me every time#text posts#also i think penelope is well acted and a good idea just shakily executed#maybe ill write somethinbg about it someday but i dont want to poke the hive ik shes got fan#*fans#being an entitled wallflower type shes got hella fans on fandom sites LMAO#but i dislike that archetype whether its a man or woman#shame bc the actor is so cute and also made me lmao in harlots#shes literally beautiful and so i'm excited to see her in regencywear her mom doesnt pick out#hopefully they age them up or something.. it seems like they might part and reunite so maybe a timeskip?#but especially freshly rewatching s1 colin and penelope are SO YOUNG for the types of romance scenes we been getting#then again queen charlotte miniseries did keep her 17 and we had love scenes with her tho they were NOT LIKE s1 scenes lmao#but ughh thats a whole other topic and i'm just rambling dont get me started abt the intimacy direction in s1 vs later seasons#uhh ok later

More Penelope discourse
On the topic of female rage. Here’s something you may not want to hear: Penelope can be vicious. And I personally love her for it.
What I love about show Penelope is that she is a good person, she had a wonderful friendship with Eloise in s1 and trough most of s2, she cares about her family even when they are so dismissive of her, she likes dogs, she is is sweet and intuitive and funny and so terribly cute.
But she’s vicious.
And I’m sorry if that intimidates the crowd who likes their female characters to fit into the Mother, Witch, Harlot stereotype. But the truth is that women can be quite vicious creatures when we want to be, no matter how nice, no matter how good hearted, we are. If you push the wrong button we are willing to ruin lives, without remorse and without apology.
I find it really funny how so many people are intimidated by that aspect of show Penelope under the guise of ‘oh she’s not a good person’. Oh please what intimidates that crowd is that show Penelope IS a good person, that she does have good intentions. That she still has the capacity to be the villain of someone else’s story when she’s 100% the protagonist of her own.
Daphne sort of glossed over the concept of how women are expected to fit themselves into a box to survive in this world where they are punished for everything, but Penelope is a better example of what happens when a woman in Daphne’s situation of ‘sit still, be smart, and never get angry’ situation, has power.
Power to hurt back, if someone hurts her. And I personally think this makes Penelope’s character more interesting. The concept that good women can be monsters and still be the absolute most wonderful people you will ever meet, that’s just something you don’t see in media a lot. It may feel contradicting, but it is appealing to me.
It’s usually more understandable if the character starts out as a bad guy and then does does something unexpectedly good. But the whole “ how can a person be so good and yet....do something bad?”. Well that, that is what I call good writing.
That’s an aspect of Penelope I look forward to seeing in S3. I want to see Penelope show that just as she is good, she can be vicious and unapologetic if you cross her.
And that’s the tea.

I finished Harlots, and I want more!!! I haven't watched a show this fast in a long time, I was just very immersed - and I've now added a few books to my list!!! - the setting and the life of these people were so interesting, and I really liked the different classes!!!
I really LOVED a few characters here, Violet and Betsey were great and I liked them working outside of a house, but with the support of Nancy still, I really Amelia Scanwell, and I think they did an incredible job with her mother in s2!!! And then still character, but also shipping house, Will and Margaret got me immediately - I LOVE strong marriages/relationships at the center of a show, and I love blended families and the love Will has for Charlotte and Lucy was beautiful to see (also little Jacob is a star character in this show, I love him so much, he's such a good kid!!!!) - and then Nancy and Margaret, this love and trust and history with each other, how they are also partners, and this understanding of each other... and in this triangle you also have a really good Will and Nancy dynamic, this care and friendship that is beautiful to see!!!
Still with characters, I really like how season 2 and 3 brought you a different side of the justice, and you have these people who want to fulfil the law, but also learning that the law is not everything. Now I don't particularly like that s3 left so many characters behind, and having no idea where they went - you had lost Betsey before but you do learn what happens, not here - so it feels like a completely new show, which I wasn't ready for...
Continuing with season 3 thoughts, it was a bit of a let down after the first two... it wasn't the same, it still did interesting things... but the biggest thing is I feel that the ending wasn't satisfying (it's not a bad ending, but it does not leave you satisfied) - and this starts with Margaret Wells leaving!!! I don't mind the introduction of Jonas - I like him - but the leaving with nothing to come after, feels empty, I'm here waiting (and even more than at the end of s2 - that felt like a more satisfying goodbye)... and then it also feels the pairing up of Will and Nancy (with their own respectively women) feels like a bad choice, the pairings work and make sense, but I feel they implied too hard to make the audience forget Margaret was sent away in an unsatisfying matter!!!
I'll now come back to better things, season 1 and 2 were really good with more of a focused in the two factions, but also with always the side reality of the courtesan with the Wells sisters!!! The show also does a really good job mixing up the dynamics and pairings with the characters and keeping important relationships but bringing new ones as well - Will and Harriet was one I really liked, bc there's this understanding between them of being black but also raising biracial kids in that world, and then Nancy with all the girls!!!
Still on characters, Emily Lacey has such a good arc, she was never a favorite, but she was someone you wanted to see and follow, always planning and preparing!!! I also like, that just like with the justice becoming better, they also give us some culls that we don't mind seeing - my favorite is Fanny's favorite, and the line of coming to her because she reminds him of how his wife was hit well!!!
Really this is a good show, with good characters and setting, that got me crying for at least two episodes - I was especially a mess during 2x07!!! And I've now read all the Will and Margaret fic on ao3, but I'm following to check the Margaret and Nancy ones!!! Definitely recommending this show!!!

Headcanon dump when
you’ve made a grave mistake. media analysis is one of my special interests and i’m also a lifelong writer so this will definitely start to get incomprehensibly ranty (warning i literally gave like an essay length explanation of how i would rewrite heinz’ story in mml s2 and this whole thing devolves away from the question very quickly)
1. my funniest one and most out of pocket one i like to bring up is that i think doofenshmirtz is such a whore imo. an absolute harlot. i think he gets around. not like people are attracted to him or find him charming (he is NOT) but he will have been with everyone in the room, like, at least once. particularly the love muffin scientists, especially rodney, and he and monogram DEFINITELY were together at some point
2. on the monogram thing, i figured monogram “experimented” at one point before doof was an owca threat and dated heinz for a short period of time and that’s why they call eachother by their first names and are so familiar with eachother (heinz probably turned him from bi-curious to homophobic very quickly). i just think the idea is hilarious
3. obviously, heinz is transgender and so is perry, that’s a given. and as mentioned one of my previous posts, 2d doof is a karen archetype and your conservative aunt at thanksgiving dinner (you decide if he’s actually cishet or if he’s like blaire white)
4. less of a headcanon and more of an “i wish this happened”, i think monty and vanessa should have stayed together and i don’t like ferbnessa much but that’s also a pretty popular take. i like the perryshmirtz parallels what can i say. also this pairs very funnily with my first and second headcanons
5. buford and bajeet are qpps (they don’t know what that is but they are). ginger is supportive
6. another obvious one, i think pretty much everyone is neurodivergent because of course they are. to get specific on the ones i feel strongest about, heinz has audhd, perry is low-empathy autistic, the rest of the flynn-fletcher family besides linda are autistic, milo is autistic, cavendish is autistic, and dakota has adhd. thank you for listening to my ted talk. i’m actually.. 👉👈 writing my first ever fic, focused around how heinz and perry communicate with their contrasting neurodivergence that will be up on this account once i finally post it to ao3, and that goes a lot more in depth
7. this is actually something i feel differs a bit from most headcanons i see. my take is that norm initially (throughout most of pnf) does not see perry as a father figure at all and only tries to get that from doof, and is also jealous that perry gets all his attention, so kind of actively dislikes him. he also hasn’t made the connection that anyone other than heinz could fulfill that role for him, because in his robot brain, he will take father in the most literal definition, like they have to be directly responsible for creating you. and not something more complex and nuanced like it actually is because he’s a robot and he’s not gonna get that right away. but i feel like over time, he’d begin to realize those nuances, and start to accept perry as family, and get much more out of him as a father figure than heinz. especially since (unless it’s a human au) they would have similarly complicated relationships with not being human but also being fully sentient.
that was a long one and i still don’t feel like i covered all of it but maybe i’ll do a fic about that one too one day 💔
8. i don’t know, as i am writing this sentence, how explosive i will get with my details on this one, but my favorite proposed future for heinz is both a mix between doof 101 and act your age. so an open secret between my friends and i is that although i love both seasons of milo murphy’s law, i really. really. dislike the whole professor time thing. don’t get me wrong, i would keep the whole reveal and not change anything about the season 1 finale.
but, if i, alister r. zamir, were personally hired by dan povenmire and swampy marsh to write the continuation of said finale, i would make everyone including the audience think he’s professor time but have that be a RED HERRING and not ACTUALLY have him be professor time because i think that’s REALLY BAD!! (maybe make it sara or cavendish or even phineas and ferb since they already did that)
the reason why i, the new writer of milo murphy’s law season 2, think this sucks, is because heinz has spent his whole life trying to live up to the expectations of others, and in the shadow of others and is always striving for unreachable goals to substantiate his self worth. it’s like his whole character, it’s his whole thing, this is his canon ass story, so to just throoooww in that whole professor time thing VALIDATES this behavior and encourages him to keep holding himself at an unnecessarily high standard, PLUS the fate of the world is kind of in his hands now, so that’s FINE. AND IM FINE ABOUT IT AND IM NOT MAD. YOU ARE.
so coming back to doof 101 and act your age, particularly act your age (which i also don’t like as an episode but that’s another story), as somebody who suffers from The Serious Illnesses of the Mental Variety, heinz being able to move on, adjust his expectations, and not be doing great or amazing or rule the tristate whatever and just be fine with doing alright, is super meaningful and relatable to me
so i think they should have just stuck with that. i like the phineas and ferb characters included in mml and like i said id keep a lot of it, but i’d save all the heinz arc stuff for phineas and ferb exclusively cause i love the perry funding professor time thing and that whole deal is cute but also i hate it. because it’s so rushed. and everything with his development feels so out of place. and wrong. and it makes me throw a tantrum.
not to mention, but i WILL, how heinz is completely justified about being upset and falling into depression because of this whole ordeal, and they sorttt of treat it like he’s justified? but they also make him unbearably annoying and we as an audience are justifiably unsympathetic to that and it seems like you want me to feel bad for him sometimes but also hate his guts, which could have been an interesting conundrum ig, but even though i love milo murphy’s law, it’s character writing is farrr from strong enough to get any kind of interesting story or arc out of that
so like, in conclusion, dwampy, hire me, i will work for pennies
alright that’s not all of them but i’ve been writing for 20 minutes and my fingers hurt thank you very much for asking me i needed to get these out of my system
#phineas and ferb#milo murphy’s law#milo murphy’s law spoilers#mml spoilers#heinz doofenshmirtz#only tagging him since he gets brought up a lot#don’t want to clog the tags TOO much#asks#thank you:#anonymous

yk what i realized? at the heart of it, Good Omens is really just a show about Love. ever since season 1. Anathema and Pulsifer, the witchfinder and the harlot lady, and from day one: Aziraphale and Crowley. And its not even just the romantic type of love, but the love of the earth the world dogs (remember Adam and Dog?) love for friends. And we've had so many more intros to love in s2 like Maggie and Nina and Gabriel and Beelzebub, and once again, our wonderful ineffable duo Aziraphale and Crowley. And it's just so cute to me how there is so much that the show really explores without directly addressing. and how in its essence, Good Omens is just about the vastness of the universe and what it means to you when you love someone in it.

9 people you'd like to get to know better!
tagged by @firstaudrina, thank youu <3
three ships: Truly could say so many. Let's go with spirk, jace/maia, and (limiting myself to just one iwtv ship here) danlou
first ship: Hmm, I think the first time I remember really having shipping feelings was maybe rogue/gambit in the 90s X-Men animated series. Big deal for young me. I do also remember having strong feelings about whatever louis and lestat had going on in the iwtv movie when I was like 5, but I don't think I consciously shipped it until much later lol. First active ship, in terms of actually reading and writing fic about it was probably sora/riku from Kindom Hearts
last song: ...Purpose is Glorious from the Loki s2 vol 2 soundtrack. Listen, Natalie Holt knows how to do a score okay
last film: Killers of the Flower Moon. Somewhat mixed feelings about it, but Lily Gladstone is unquestionably fantastic
currently reading: Still carrying The Vampire Lestat around with me everywhere I go while not actually reading it 👍🏾 I'm going to try and actually get through the damn thing next week while I have some time
currently watching: nothing new since I unexpectedly mainlined the Loki series about a week ago, but I am Strongly Considering starting Harlots for Ye Olde Fancy Gerry Newsreader
currently consuming: nothing right now but I did have some surprisingly good fro yo earlier
currently craving: hmm, you know, I could go for some french toast tbh
tagging: @indelicateink, @redgitanako, @devotedchauffeur, @multifairyus, @thomas-the-goat-of-satan, @aryastark-valarmorghulis, @kirby97, @kristensteward, @sunsfavorite (no pressure tho)

shows you need to watch to understand my brain
again, i'm not guaranteeing the quality or likeability of any of these things. they are foundational for me, but they may not be to your taste. check for cws because i don't feel like listing them but i will make special note for things i find especially triggering for me personally.
Mononoke | モノノ怪 and its origin in Ayakashi: Samurai Horror Tales | 怪 〜ayakashi〜 Japanese Classic Horror, the Bakeneko story [化け猫] (severe cw for rape, sexual assault, kidnapping, imprisonment, murder, and gore in Bakeneko Story)
Apostle
Crimson Peak
Kingdom | 킹덤 (congratulations to kingdom for being the only zombie show that i will ever give a fuck about)
Hinterland | Y Gwyll (cw for a cop show)
Pacific Rim
Black Butler | 黒執事
Paranorman
Princess Tutu
And Then There Were None (2015)
The Great Queen Seondeok | 선덕여왕
House of Flying Daggers | 十面埋伏
Granada's The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes: The Copper Beeches (the entire show is incredible but like. i love the copper beeches it's my favorite holmes story of all time because it includes This Spectacular Sequence:
which is the best scene of all of holmes imo)
Derry Girls (all seasons)
Harlots (ONLY SEASONS ONE AND TWO because then they kill off my favorite character and i lose all interest)
Jeeves and Wooster (cw for period typical racism) (the link is to the pilot but the entire fucking show is a goldmine)
Shetland (cw for another cop show)
Geraldine McEwan's Miss Marple and David Suchet's Murder on the Orient Express (do not FUCKING talk to me about kenneth branagh i hate every single thing he's done with poirot with every fiber of my being)
Penny Dreadful (seasons 1-2 only, season 3 sucked, and city of angels does not exist)
Sailor Moon R: The Movie | 劇場版 美少女戦士セーラームーンR
Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries
Netflix's Daredevil (all seasons, yes, even s2, i'm obsessed with elodie's elektra)
Chobits (don't @ me i love my sweet robot children hideki doesn't fucking matter)
i'll add more as i think of them.
#alix's tv recs#looking at this list and i'm like wow. how much horror and mystery do i consume on the daily

Sorry if you answered this question already but I found your blog just yesterday so I'm very interested in the HOTD S2 casting stuff you're talking about! How do we know that Jessica Brown Findlay (who I loved in Downton Abbey!) was definitely the first choice for Alys? I saw no news anywhere so this awesome to know!
About two months ago, Olivia Cooke, Phia Saban, the head of costuming, and several of the Season 2 directors started following her on Instagram all in a space of two days.
And it was basically confirmed that she was cast as Alys by every insider that had connections to HOTD production.
Then, last week, rumors started circling that Rankin was brought in last minute to fill in as shooting started.
Everyone is not sure what happened, but if you've got your ear to the ground, there was chatter from a reddit group that write about celebrity encounters in London and someone wrote about something they saw and overheard at a pub ... and apparently someone very close to JBF also read that reddit thread and wasn't happy about what they reported seeing and overhearing.
Speculation, mere speculation, sir ... but a pretty good educated guess all things considered.
Though, there is a rumor that JFB is still cast in the show.
There is unsubstantiated chatter that there's going to be a flashback to Alicent and Gwayne's childhood and that Jessica Brown Findlay is going to do a cameo as Alicent and Gwayne's mother.
Which is funny, considering that Jessica Brown Findlay was supposed to cameo as Lyanna Stark in "Game of Thrones" Season 6, but she had a scheduling conflict while shooting "Harlots".
So who knows ...
