the semantic drift of the term "liminal" genuinely pisses me off and i know its petty. LIMINAL IS A TRANSITIONAL STAGE BETWEEN TWO STATES- OR. IF WE WANT TO WIDEN THE BOUNDARY HERE. IT COULD BE ON THE VERY EDGE OF BECOMING SOMETHING ELSE. just because something is abandoned doesn't mean its liminal. in fact, that shopping mall was MORE liminal when it was dying off and shutting down outlets every month than it is 5 years later when the space is fully abandoned.

A hill i will die standing on is that picky eaters deserve respect and accommodation and to eat food they enjoy too. Sensory issues, disliked flavors, allergies, intolerances, cultural differences, religious restrictions, moral or political choices, they all deserve to be given consideration if you know you're gonna be cooking for them and to not be excluded from the fundamental right to food & access to the many important social bonding acitivities centered around food

why do people think gender neutral bathrooms would have less privacy. i’d like to have ungendered restrooms with ceiling-to-floor walls and stall doors you can’t see over, under or between the cracks. i don’t want to and don’t need to know the gender of the person in the stall next to mine

The only downside to talking to small children like they’re normal people and treating them like normal people (as per my mom) is that as they develop into bigger children they are viscerally aware of every single moment in which they are pandered to like stupid little accessories (as per my dad, my teacher, the special ed aide, every adult in my middle school) and you end up getting a lot of phone calls from people reporting your kid for (checks notes) “undermining authority”, “disrupting the classroom environment”, “disobeying elder peers”, and “unionizing the grade eleven gym class with intent to incite a mutiny” (as per me) and you end up with a Grown Adult who will absolutely encourage and enable other people’s children to fuck the sustem

My spiciest disabled stall hot take is that people need to give abled parents assisting their children in the accessible stall a break. The parents are abled, yes, but they're not the ones we need to think about here: The person USING the access features is actually the child. The feature they're using is the extra space for a caregiver to assist them because they can't safely toilet on their own. If a parent is using the toilet, the access feature being used is still extra space for a caregiver because the child needs supervision and can't be left alone. It's not necessarily a disability as we tend to define it, but they're in the same category as fat people who can't fit in a regular stall in that they fuckin need it whether they're otherwise abled or not.
This is more of a reason we need more family restrooms and changing spaces, as well as more space in general in regular stalls so that fat people aren't literally being squeezed out of society and children get their needs met.

A lot of fantasy goes with Tolkien explanation of fantasy racism being the result of ancestral grudge.
Then you got Dungeon Meshi which is like:
"Elves and Dwarves hate each other because their respective empires make up 2/3 of the imperial core and are stuck in a cold war as the planet runs out of uncolonized land to grab. Elves are able to live in pastoral paradise because they've horded most of the settings farm-able land and natural capital, displacing and mass murdering any natives in the process. Orcs and goblins are hostile to other races because there the primary targets of an ongoing slavery and genocide campaign. The dividing line between human and inhuman is arbitrarily assigned via a phrenological pseudo-science that quickly falls apart when questioned by anyone who wasn't indoctrinated into it since birth."

this "negative" review of guillermo del toro's upcoming frankenstein movie is everything to me
"The Mexican director has chosen to emphasise the romanticism at the expense of the horror. Elordi plays the creature as a misunderstood, James Dean-like outsider with Oedipal issues rather than as an agent of evil and chaos. Even if his face and torso are latticed with suitably grotesque scars, staples and stitches, he is not only the most sympathetic character in the movie but the best-looking one too. It’s left to Oscar Isaac to provide the real villainy as the brilliant but egomaniacal scientist, Victor Frankenstein..."
HELLO YES IT'S ME, MARY SHELLEY CALLING, JUST WANTED TO ASK IF YOU'VE EVER SEEN A GUILLERMO DEL TORO MOVIE OR... I DON'T KNOW... READ MY BOOK?
"The film lurches between scenes of lush romantic melodrama and moments of Grand Guignol bloodletting."

Someone is eating a fresh orange in this McDonald's. I smelled it and my head snapped up like a hunting dog. That smell doesn't belong in this wicked place

It's so important to acknowledge the very real and sometimes truly horrible failings of the healthcare profession and the pharmaceutical industry while never ever ever letting them drive us into the arms of pseudoscientific bullshit. This is something I feel really strongly about.

Referring to IGM and CIMI generally as "gender affirming care for cis people with sex disorders" during arguments with TERFs is one of the most evil things perisex trans people and cis allies do regularly.
