This is kind of a ramble of a question sorry. I'm a trans guy, and have been trying to figure out how much sexual attraction/desire I actually feel, with the idea of figuring out how into sex I'd be post bottom surgery. I do think I experience some attraction towards women - watched Alien last night and felt funny every time Sigourney Weaver opened her mouth - but I don't think I feel it as intensely as other people my age (15.5), and never seem to feel horny spontaneously without a specific trigger. I am dysphoric about my genitals to the point where actually being aroused/feeling any kind of sensation from them is mentally very uncomfortable. I’ve found a new favorite author in Terry Pratchett, whose writing style fits the way I think, write, and read like a puzzle piece, in a way no one’s ever has.

Dardanne's politoed was originally his family's pokémon. It followed him when he ran away from home.

Politoed dies of old age during the 2 years gap between b1w1 and b2w2.

Dardanne has some sort of selective mutism. He barely talks to strangers and can sometimes give incoherent answers due to stress. In b1w1, he physically cannot talk to people he considers "scary" (the Sages, the whole Harmonia family, gym leaders, anyone with some sort of authority over him)

Dardanne joined Plasma as a teenager after fleeing from his abusive home, with the family pet Politoed and a backpack. Ironically enough he ended up in an abusive organization, poor little dude. Basically, he was in a very vulnerable situation before joining, and ended up joining out of despair because at this point he had nowhere else to go. Also, the idea of helping pokémons who are in danger was of course very appealing to him

Dardanne has some sort of sibling-like relationship with Melony in b1w1, and Melony is the one showing him the ropes and mentoring him. They also relate to each other on having difficult home life (not in quite the same intensity tho), being trans and generally functionning in weird ways. They are also both native of Kalos.

Dardanne is one of the grunts who is in charge of escorting N through out Unova in b1w1. Dardanne slowly comes out of his shell and bonds with N as the both of them come to conclude that Team Plasma's ideology might be wrong. Dardanne and N also have some really cool bonding over childhood traumas and autism

N and Dardanne infodump on each other A LOT

At the best of their relationship, they go full on autism-mode and they stim with each other. Also if one of them makes a weird sound, you can be sure the other will repeat it, and it won't stop for hours

When Ghetsis reveals that the end goal of Team Plasma is to take over Unova with him as the new leader, Dardanne is devastated, because he lost the few landmarks he had finally acquiered; Team Plasma collapses on itself and everyone picks a side or goes back home. Dardanne doesn't have a home to go back to, refuses to follow Ghetsis, and N is gone.

Melony leaves Dardanne behind, as Mel chooses to follow Ghetsis, later becoming part of Neo Plasma

For a while, Dardanne hangs out in the abandoned Plasma Castle, looking for a sense of comfort, routine and happiness again

Between b1w1 and b2w2 he converts into a normal trainer. He doesn't catch pokémons, still following N's ideas from b1w1, and instead adopts pokémons who have been left behind by their owners or abused

When N comes back, Dardanne still feels a strong sense of loyalty to him after years of cult brainwashing, and despite trying his best not to, he will still act like N's grunt from time to time

Dardanne is generally a good person who's misguided, but he has a sharp tongue and will be mean if he judges it appropriate (if his selective mutism doesn't get in the way)

During b2w2, like several repentant ex-plasma grunts, Dardanne is taken care of by Alder to deconstruct the damages the cult brainwashing has done. Having been enrolled as an abused teenager, Dardanne has a lot to unpack

During b2w2, Dardanne lives by himself with his pokémons in a small isolated house. He regularly takes in abused pokémons and takes care of them, giving them back some trust in humans. As for work, Dardanne works at the local Pokémon Nursery

Overall, Dardanne is chaotic good. 8/10 Would give him a croissant

My Autistic Hobie Headcanon:

Hobie's Happy Place

Give him a weighted blanket and it's over.

Pressure is a really positive stim for Hobie. He loves weighted blankets. Put one on him and suddenly he's calm as hell. Stops talking and his breathing evens out. Kinda zones out as he gets comfy.

They keep one in the dressing rooms and tour buses so Hobie can center and ground himself. The performances can get intense and he gives it his all, so it's nice to go back to the tour bus and collapse in bed with his blanket.

Five minutes later and he's out like a light.

He likes to sleep with his head covered and curled up, or arms over his head. It's the only time he looks small.

If he can manage it, he'll make his favorite tea. Sitting outside to watch and listen to the waves, with his weighted blanket and mug in hand

i saw you say something about how trauma can make one appear autistic/etc (on the edwin post where steve yockey said he wasn't autistic), i was wondering if you could share a little more about that? it was interesting to learn and makes a bit of sense. /nf

I can try my best! I’ve been diagnosed with C-PTSD and in intensive trauma therapy for the last 3 years now, so I know some stuff, but I am in no way an expert. I'm just speaking from experience and what i've learned in therapy!

I think something to keep in mind is that things like C-PTSD and PTSD can delay the development of the brain - which is why some people actually consider C-PTSD to be a type of neurodivergence (though that’s not been medically confirmed). This is something that’s more prevalent in cases of very early childhood abuse, but I think that in Edwin’s case, given that he’s a teenager that went through 70 years of trauma, it can still apply. It can cause delays in social development (inability to connect with others and a persistent feeling of being an outsider being the two major effects), which results in difficulty in being vulnerable with others (though I think Edwin’s existence as a gay man in the 1910’s also plays into his difficulty with connection). There’s also a conversation to be had about attachment styles and how those come into play, but that’s a topic for another post.

People with C-PTSD can also have a very difficult time with change or unpredictability, because things being unpredictable often leads to an inability to feel safe. C-PTSD is developed by being subjected to inescapable environments that are consistently traumatizing for extended periods of time, and that trauma is often of an unpredictable nature (as seen with Edwin’s experience in Hell). In order to maintain some semblance of safety, people with C-PTSD can sometimes develop strict routines or habits that will provide a grounding structure to the world around them (sometimes reminiscent of behaviors associated with OCD and/or autism)

People with C-PTSD are also most often hypervigilant, which can lead to sensory sensitivities and sensory overload because of how permanently dialed in they are to their surroundings. I think that’s also part of what makes Edwin such a good detective; he notices everything. This can also lead to a heightened startle response, which is something we’ve seen from Edwin in the show.

this is by no means an exhaustive list, but here are some other traits that autism and C-PTSD often share:

dissociation

difficulty managing intense emotions

use of stimming to manage emotions

difficulty relaxing/sleeping

negative beliefs of self/the world

higher risk of repeated victimization
