Happy Noumenia 🌙
to those Hellenic Pagans who celebrate!
I'm new to this realm, and am learning how to worship and honor the Gods appropriately. Today, I'll be giving offerings and libations to Them, eating dinner with my partner at the kitchen table, cleaning the house, and planning the first Decameron of this lunar month.
This is my very first Noumenia, so if seasoned worshippers feel so inclined to send tips, reccomendations, and resources - I welcome them with open arms

I’m deranged. I didn’t bake a single thing when it was cool enough to justify turning the oven on, but give me 100+ days and I’m baking everything, all of it for offerings. I lost my desire to bake anything for a long time after I left the restaurant industry but I’m in the mood to delight my cadre of deities with unexpected little joyful things and it’s making me happy. And a little manic too?
This is koulouri; sesame covered rings of dough, baked until crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. Greeks claim them as their own but they’re probably of Turkish origin. Whoever first baked them cheers because they are delicious. If they look a little boring, they aren’t and I ate them all over Greece for breakfast with jam or honey or just plain. A stack of these will be on my Noumenia altar tonight but I’ll eat as many as I can. Sorry Selene, I am a bread whore.
Here’s the recipe (which I snagged on Pinterest and adapted a little for a chewier ring):
500 g AP or bread flour
2 tsp salt
3 tbsp olive oil plus a little to oil bowl
300g lukewarm water (I needed a little more)
2 tsp honey
8g yeast
2 tsp rose water (it didn’t make much difference but vanilla would be nice. Ouzo is in some recipes)
1 1/2 cup raw white sesame seeds
Medium bowl of cool water to dip rings into
Add water, yeast and honey to your mixing bowl. Let bloom 5 minutes, give it a quick stir and add flour and salt.
Mix on medium low speed for about 10 minutes to develop gluten. Dough should be soft but smooth and pliant.
Let rise 30 minutes or until doubled. Cut into 12 pieces (I only got 9 but I wanted big rings) and roll each piece into an 8-9 inch snake. Dip the ends into water to seal, pressing a little if needed. Let rest 5 minutes.
Quickly dip each ring into water and then press into sesame seeds on both sides. Place onto lined baking sheets about 2 inches apart. Bake for 20 minutes or so at 400f until golden. Cool and try not to eat them all.

On Noumenia
I more or less missed the entirety of Noumenia because work has been crazy lately and I'm saving money to visit my polycule, but I wanted to share a few words with each of you.
May Hestia's light and warmth light your life and your path forward always, may she keep you in a warm embrace that keeps you happy and healthy in all things you do. May the Theoi bless and keep each of you like parents with their worshippers as their beloved children, for you keep their message and their love alive in the minds of mankind. May you be safe, strong and secure always.

Honey Cake <3
Happy Noumenia! Today is the 1st of Skirophorion according to the hellenic lunar calendar. This is the honey cake I made and offered to Apollon, Hestia, Zeus, Hermes and to the gods in general.
Ingredients
210 g all-purpose flour 1-1/2 cups
67 g granulated sugar 1/3 cup
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
1 tablespoon grated lemon zest from 2 whole lemons
67 g Carapelli Organic Extra Virgin Olive Oil 1/3 cup
130 g unsweetened non-dairy milk 1/2 cup, such as soy or almond milk
113 g honey 1/3 cup
1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
Honey-Lemon Syrup
2 tablespoons lemon juice
2 tablespoons honey (maple syrup for vegan)
Lemon Glaze
130 g powdered sugar 1 cup
1-1/2 tablespoons lemon juice and up to 2 tablespoons
Optional Garnish:
3 whole fresh figs optional
1/3 cup raspberries optional
1/4 cup edible flowers optional
Instructions
》 Preheat oven to 350˚F. Grease a standard 8x4" loaf pan. Cut a piece of parchment paper to fit the bottom and long sides of the loaf pan with a little overhang.
》 Whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, salt and lemon zest in a medium-size mixing bowl.
》 In a separate bowl whisk together olive oil, milk, honey, vinegar, and vanilla.
》 Add wet mixture to dry and stir with a spatula until incorporated about 1 minute.
》 Spread cake batter into prepared pan and bake on center rack for about 45 minutes or until it is dark golden brown and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
》 To make Honey-Lemon Syrup simply whisk together the lemon juice and honey until dissolved.
》 When cake is done remove from oven cool cake in pan on cool rack for 10 minutes. Brush the top of the cake with honey-lemon syrup while it is still warm. Lift cake out of the loaf pan using the parchment paper overhang and cool to room temperature.
》 To make the lemon glaze, whisk lemon juice and powdered sugar until smooth. Start with 1-1/2 tablespoons of lemon juice and add more if the glaze seems too thick. Pour glaze over cooled cake.
》 Optionally decorate the top of the cake with fresh figs, raspberries and edible flowers.
note from me: this isn't my recipe or picture! mine isn't nearly as stunning! Here's a link to the website this is from <3 make sure the cake is room temperature, slightly warm when you put the glaze on. Then pop it in the refrigerator and it will harden well! It was delicious, and in place of apple cider vinegar I used more lemon juice. I'm vegan, so I was happy to find that I could make this cake vegan! I used self-rising flour in place of all-purpose, baking soda and baking powder.

Hey there! Deipnon and Noumenia are coming up again so I decided to post my routine for those two days.
My Deipnon and Noumenia Routines:
In ancient Greece the day started at sundown, so Deipnon and Noumenia would start at sundown/night time and end at the same time the next day, making night first.
Deipnon night:
Shower (prayer to Hygeia for cleansing and give an offering of water), wash face (with khernips if i feel like it), and brush teeth.
Bend 3 coins if not already bent (reason why is here).
Go to the crossroad and pray with my hands outward toward the crossroad, and offer the coins, tossing them out into the road.
Deipnon day:
Clean and cleanse!
I physically clean my entire room. Do all my laundry and put it away, vacuum, dust, wipe down any surfaces, clean everything on my altar, etc.
I then cleanse my whole room with my cedar bundle.
This is also the day I take down my ward, like my holly cross, hagstones, etc. and cleanse them with smoke (usually frankincense) or khernips.
My tarot deck, pendulum, and any divination tool get cleansed last. I then leave them on Apollo's shrine and say something like "Lord Apollo, god of divination and prophecy, hear my prayer! Please bless these tools with truth and accuracy this coming month. I thank you for your blessings." then offer the rest of the frankincense incense to him.
Noumenia night:
Shower (prayer to Hygeia for cleansing and give an offering of water), wash face (with khernips if i feel like it), and brush teeth.
Fill my silver chalices with drinking water and go out into the dark of night and offer it to Selene, pouring it out in her name.
Noumenia day:
Shower (prayer to Hygeia for cleansing and give an offering of water), wash face (with khernips if i feel like it), and brush teeth.
Make an offering to the household deities, Hestia, Zeus, Apollo, Hermes, and Hekate. I pray to them to protect my home, and also ask them to bless some of my wards with protection for the coming month, like my shells full of salt. I have four small shells I found at the beach that I will cleanse in khernips, dry, then place sea salt and crushed bay leaves into. I ask them to bless the salt with protection. I then place them in each corner of my room.
I spend the rest of the day relaxing. This was a day of no work for the ancient Greeks, so after I finish my wards I'm pretty tired from cleaning so much and am happy to lay around.

Just celebrated Noumenia! Unfortunately, it was my first one where I struggled a bit with my connection, but I know They’re there. I made my first kathiskos for Lord Zeus Ktesios, and made offerings to all my other Gods (except Lady Hekate, I’m waiting for tonight for Her).
Basically I’m very much being encouraged to find myself and talk to my loved ones this month—something I’ve been really struggling with. Lord Thanatos and Lord Hypnos are so encouraging of me working on my mental health, and I cannot thank Them enough for it.
Happy late Noumenia, to all who celebrate!
Khairete 🖤

Hello!
As I stated in my personal information page, I have quite a heavy schedule. I am currently working out a way to have consistent “sermon”-like posts. This may be monthly or weekly, just picking a set date for it.
Until then, I have re-posts in the queue and a few informational posts drafted as well. As I am just beginning & learning this new path and experience, patience is greatly appreciated!
I wish you all a happy and relaxing weekend! And Happy Noumenia to those celebrating

My Apartment's Gods
The Hellenic Polytheist community often seems split between two camps: Reconstructionism and Revivalism. I’d like to expand upon that topic at a later date, but for now, I've been reflecting on ways the lines between the two seem to blur and overlap, in my own experience.
I live in a small city apartment, and as you can imagine, my living situation requires certain accommodations.
For example, I reconstruct in that I offer libations and food offerings to the Gods, but in doing that I also adapt and revive those practices because I:
give my offerings and libations indoors, into an offering bowl rather than outside on the ground, because I do not have outdoor space.
libate water rather than wine, since we commonly drink water nowadays and I'm usually unable to drink for medical reasons.
pour my libations down the sink following prayer, because I do not have access to an outdoor means of disposal.
use everyday household items like drink tumblers and cereal bowls, because I have little space and few dedicated altar items.
offer common, everyday foods when I do not have more traditional items available.
I also reconstruct in my faith when I celebrate holidays and sacred days like Hekate's Deipnon and the Noumenia, but I revive these practices as well, because I:
make donations to local charities in Hekate's honor.
give my offerings and libations indoors, and take Hekate's special offerings outside to my complex's trash, because it's illegal to leave food outside.
make modern desserts and foods to feed my ancestors and celebrate the holy days, since my ancestors and any guests would expect local food.
keep my shrine to Hekate Propylaia indoors, because again, I do not have the privilege of owning a home for an outdoor space.
use minimal incense and candles to avoid creating a fire hazard in my building.
The above are just a few examples, but illustrate why I think the divide between Reconstructionsm and Revivalism is silly. I used to consider myself a staunch Reconstructionist, but as much as we try to adhere to "historical precedent," we can only do so much in our modern day.
Our homes are no longer built with the Gods' worship in mind, and our cities no longer celebrate the Immortals. Asphalt and concrete cover what would have been grass and earth, and modern laws and safety precautions prohibit us from pouring out libations whenever and wherever we please. We cannot expect access to a temple, although our family abroad are rebuilding some.
Still, we have home worship, as the ancients always did. Today, our homes look different. Our world and the life we live in it are drastically changed. We can't expect our worship will not also change, even if in spirit it remains the same.
I believe that as a community, Hellenic Polytheists can reach a happy medium, one which looks to the past for inspiration, but understands it will be shaped by the future. We all have more in common than we think, because we are all devoted to the Gods.

My Noumenia small celebration.
I did some journaling for Hestia, then we enjoyed some quiet time and then I read. I think my recent readings would be just her type of books, key concept is being cozy and happy 🥰
