Okay, so I have done nothing for Disability Pride Month. Zero comics, zero asks answered. Hell, I barely reblogged anything to here. And for a moment, I was quite upset about this. Because it wasn’t a case of me being too busy or the like. In fact, I have worked on a myriad of other things. I worked on everything except this blog. Unfortunately, I just could not (and never can) really control what I end up focusing on and subsequently dumping all of my energy into.

I felt really guilty about this, until I realized something:

It’s okay.

Beating myself up over something like this isn’t helpful. In fact, I would argue that it’s actively harmful. Trust me, wallowing in guilt does not do much to spark productivity. So, I started to remind myself of something I think a lot of people forget:

I’m trying my best.

And that is the one message I want to convey to all of you this Disability Pride Month. It’s okay if things are hard for you. It’s okay if you can’t seem to do as much, or do as well, as other people. It’s okay.

You are trying your best.

You are trying in a society that was not built for people like you. You are trying your best with the brain or body you have.

And yes, this goes for physically disabled individuals as well. I know my blog caters more to neurodivergence (because that is what I personally have experience with), but this is just as valid for you guys. You are trying you best in a world that isn’t always accessible, or perhaps judges you for whatever you have going on. And that’s valid. And your valid. I won’t go on extensively with this point, mainly because there are people much more qualified to speak about this particular facet of the disabled community. But I just wanted to mention you guys because you matter too.

No matter who you are, or what you are dealing with, don’t be too hard on yourself. Try your best, and push yourself when you want to (and when it’s healthy!!!), but do not berate yourself. Trust me, there are plenty of ignorant people who will try to do that, do not do it to yourself. You deserve kindness and understanding. And again, the world won’t always provide what you deserve. But you can give that to yourself. And we can give it to each other.
