In honor of Aloy's birthday, here's a snippet of that one time I had Tilda make Aloy a birthday cake in Prometheus Bound!

Carefully hiding the cake behind her, Tilda stepped forward, waiting in the doorframe even after it opened. Aloy was sitting on the desk in front of her bed, restlessly kicking her legs back and forth. When she looked up and caught Tilda’s expectant gaze, she smiled thinly, jerking her chin in silent invitation. Tilda walked toward her slowly, amused when Aloy tracked her movements with almost-playful suspicion, so different from the gaze she constantly turned her way when they first met, steeped in cautious apprehension. Halting within arm’s reach, Tilda shot her a hesitant smile, the closest she would likely ever appear to shy. “So,” she took a steadying breath, “I’m not sure if you’re aware, but Beta’s date of birth is approaching. I’m not sure if you know your own birthdate, but I thought”—she hesitated, oddly nervous, struggling to sound even remotely eloquent—“Well, I wanted to make Beta a ‘welcome home’ gift, and I thought that, with you two being so close, you could celebrate too, if you don’t know your date of birth, that is.” Aloy looked very confused. Sighing, Tilda brought the cake around, presenting it with a small smile, “What I mean is, happy maybe birthday, Aloy.”
