Capcom Museum Investigations Sketches
This is the 66th post in the Ace Attorney Investigations Collection Countdown: 15 days left until release!
Today's topic: concept art sketches from the Capcom Museum Ace Attorney Investigations Exhibit!
The Investigations exhibit on the Capcom Museum website has tons of amazing artworks, backgrounds, sketches, promotional material and even the old promotion video for Investigations! The exhibit itself might be closed by now (sadly) but you can still access all the art and stuff they posted including these sketches below. They're originally from the artbook but I had first seen them on the Capcom Museum website and they're lovely so I wanted to talk about them.

This one shows a bunch of concept work done for the life-size figurine of Miles for the Investigations promotion booth back then. The highlighted parts are considered to be particularly important for Miles to look like Miles, that includes the line between his eyebrows and the lock of hair standing out at the back of his head. It's often exactly these kinds of details that make characters suddenly look wrong if they're missing even if you don't actively notice them when they're there. I also love the image of Miles with just his waistcoat on, we've never seen him like that before! (Definitely gonna use this for future fanfic endeavours.)

The next two sketches are particular favourites of mine, they're from the Investigations main trio and I always love seeing them together! The first one shows them rushing to get somewhere (the scene of the crime, most likely). Miles is running in front, very focused and determined, followed by Gumshoe closely behind, with a more concerned look on his face. Kay looks like she's flying or jumping from somewhere above them, her arms stretched and her scarf flapping in the wind reminiscent of an action hero. It's a wonderfully dynamic image, even at the sketch stage, and I'd love to see a fully drawn and coloured version of this. It's amazing how all their personalities come through in such a simple action and how well their team dynamic comes across. Miles as the serious leader, Kay always rushing in headfirst as dramatically as possible and Gumshoe lacking a little behind but always there to support. So nice!

The second one shows them sitting on something (probably a bench) and, again, I love how their personalities and dynamic is expressed in just the way they're sitting! Miles is in the middle with his hands folded on his crossed legs and facing slightly upwards with a very serious expression like he's thinking about something particularly difficult to figure out. Kay is on his left fully croaching on the bench instead of sitting like she could jump up at any time, ready for action. She doesn't look quite as serious but still contemplative propping up her chin with her arm and looking off to the side. Gumshoe has his legs parallel to each other, his feet on the ground and his back straight, the perfect picture of how to sit on a bench. He looks completely relaxed with his hands in his lap and a happy smile on his face. Such a nice contrast between the three! I'd love to have this one fully drawn and coloured too but it's great in the sketch stage as well.

The last piece is a series of sketches done for the cute little comic that came with the Investigations 2 orchestra soundtrack (the final version with translation can be found here). Just from the sketches alone you can roughly tell what it's about, the intro is dramatic with Miles, Kay and Gumshoe all looking distressed, then the reveal that Kay and Gumshoe are wearing baseball gloves and hiding, to a final extremely rough sketch of Miles finding his broken King of Prosecutors' trophy with the culprit clearly being a baseball. Great little comic and the sketches already deliver so much! It's honestly amazing that Gumshoe would agree to playing catch in Miles' office considering he's the one who cleans and is so protective of it. Maybe he thought, in his naivety, that nothing would happen or that he could clean any mess they made before Miles returned... At least it was "only" the trophy that Miles isn't so attached to anyway but I can't imagine him being very happy about them playing ball games in his office 😅 Daily shenanigans of the Investigations crew!

[NEWS] Extended demo released! Download & Play now!
Hello! Today's update is super exciting because as the title says...
The extended demo of MY DEAR☆LOVE has been released!!! (Windows only)
After two long weeks of hard work (and many cups of coffee), we are happy to finally share what we have been working on!
We apologize for the delay. The development of this extended demo had taken longer than expected due to us working more hours for our day jobs, but it was our goal to release it this weekend, and we are glad that we were able to achieve it despite the setbacks. 
Extended Demo features:
Estimated 1 hour play time. The full version, MY DEAR☆LOVE PLUS+, has an estimated play time of 8-15 hours.
Meet the male love interest Atsuya and side character Hayato Arihara.
Stat-raising simulation mode is now playable! It can be accessed from the title screen.
Cooking mini game is now playable! You can make curry in the story mode, or make omurice in the mini game mode (accessible from the title screen).
Visual novel mode that extends to the end of the prologue.
1 full colour CG featuring the male love interest Atsuya.
Save/load feature and general settings menu with a toggle for Main Character portrait.
Keyboard input is available; please refer to the "Read Me" text file included in the demo file.
Japanese or English language option available in settings from the title screen only.
We apologize there is a bug in the cooking mini game: In the part where you cut the ingredients, the knife will not be aligned with your cursor in fullscreen mode. To avoid this, at the tutorial screen, switch to window mode by pressing the F key or F4 key on your keyboard. We are working on resolving this and will provide a fix as soon as possible.
*The game is in development. The demo does not represent the final game. CG gallery is not available in this demo. Please email us at [email protected] if you encounter any errors when playing the demo. 
Due to time constraints, we have had to prioritize certain functions and omit other aspects. However, we plan to release a version 2.2 update that will further enhance the player experience and provide fixes. 
Plans for the version 2.2 update:
Enhanced functions of the stat-raising simulation mode
More character sprite expression
More "cut-ins" which are in-game visuals that complement text
Enhanced graphics and staging effects, camerawork, etc.
Fixes to the GUI and other minor fixes
With the release of this extended demo, the mini demo will be removed from our game page on itch.io. Thank you to everyone who gave it a try! This week we will be progressively updating our Kickstarter campaign with new screenshots, Epilogue DLC story reveal, samples of the digital artbook, a teaser video, and possibly a teaser of our next game (a double-protagonist dating sim with optional GxG/BxB content!).
MY DEAR☆LOVE is set to release as a free game in early 2025. Our Kickstarter campaign, at a funding goal of $6,500 CAD (approximately $4,720 USD), is to fund the development of an extended version that will feature more upgrades, including new gameplay, more mini games, more CGs and story endings. We are dedicated to making this game a reality, and if we could have your support, we believe we can deliver it at its full creative potential and provide a even more enjoyable player experience. If we manage to reach the corresponding stretch goal of $11,000 CAD (approximately $7,987 USD), a MacOS port will be developed.
In closing, we would like to take a moment to show our appreciation for the support we have received. H9O6 is a small indie studio consisting of two creative minds (and a cat!) with big dreams. Monthly Update (April 2024)
Hello everyone, it's Chattercap!
I apologize for the slightly late April devlog, but I was in a bit of a daze after the MindMindMind release! Wow, March went by in a flash for me! Let's get down to it!
I released not one, but TWO games this month! (If you missed them, you can find the links in my pinned!)
Kanau

I spent the first part of the month programming and ironing out the Kanau release. I added mini CGs to my VN framework and also added the ability to rename your save files. After that, it was full steam ahead with actually implementing everything - all of the art, BGM, SFX, VA, and GUI, including updating the gallery. I also set up the itch page and put together some social media announcements. Since the content warnings were pretty stark with this one, I also added a trigger warning screen. After that, I had the game beta tested, and it was released by the 8th!
After that I…took a few days break, haha! (I should have gotten straight to work on MMM, but alas, I always enter some kind of trance right after a game release!)

For the first part of the month, I was mainly scripting as I needed to get the script done for the VAs as quickly as possible. MMM was my QUICKEST script to date, as I finished 20k words in less than 10 days, wow! (I think that the relatively simplistic prose, with a heavy emphasis on dialogue, helped a lot.) During that time I also reviewed the MMM voice acting auditions and made my selections; in addition, I made the promo artwork and reached out to someone for background photos.
After I was out of my post Kanau-release trance, I immediately started work on the sprites! Kalei's sprite was easy to finish, although Geist's sprite took a bit of time (I kept messing up his face…). I also finished all of the backgrounds and then started work on the CGs; I managed to finish one CG per day! While I was doing that, I also cleaned and adjusted the VA samples. On the final week of the month, I animated all of the art and then basically did the same things for MMM that I did for Kanau - adding all of the art, sound, and GUI, making the itch page, updating the gallery. I also put together a walkthrough and implemented name and pronoun selection. I managed to get MMM ready for beta-testing by the 25th, and I spent the rest of the time prepping VA announcements and putting together the artbook! MMM was released on the 29th!
Other
With new game releases comes a myriad of little tasks! I submitted both Kanau and MMM to IMDB and updated my carrd, Tumblr, Twitter, and patreon. I also added MMM to Steam! (It's here! You can wishlist it if you want; I'll probably upload it there fairly soon.)
And then…after MindMindMind I entered my post-game release coma again. I think I did a few things (started sketching the Hanasu cover art and an updated art for Actala, started a commission for an updated Actala logo, and continued writing the Hanasu script, but I'll be honest I've been in a bit of a daze…)
I'm really blown away with the reception that MMM has received, and I'm happy that so many people have played and enjoyed it; I'll upload a postmortem sometime soon, haha!
What's on the docket for next month?
Amare Jam is going on this month, and I hope to finish The Deepwater Witch for it! There are only a few CGs (and some optional mini CGs) to do, so I think I can! In addition, I want to finish the Hanasu script this month. After TDW is finished, I'll be working on Actala - doing updated backgrounds, sprites, and CGs. I want to work on both a Hanasu release and an updated Actala demo for a summer-ish timeframe (whether I can get both done for Otome Jam remains to be seen…)

My favorite is, not very originally, Jinx, but Mel and Ekko comes in as no 2 and 3. I can't rank one before the other, so it would be more correct to say they share second place. oushirou's been my most beloved, specialest, best boy since my first year in college. i was working my way through the games, and i saw his profile in some artbook scans, and i went... who the FUCK is this guy??? KAJSNKDJN. i hated his design so much; it didn't fit with the rest of the series's designs.
but he immediately won me over as a side character in the pc game, and then i was Doomed the second i booted up to play the PSP port with the added oushirou route (our 13yr anniversary is the day i started posting about playing his route lol). i became The Oushirou Guy™ in the eng fandom from that point on ;; and, of course, now i'm like "i need MORE characters who look like this guy, RIGHT NEOW" kjsnfkjn.
and then a year later -- 12 years ago tomorrow -- the last game released AND, FINALLY, he had his own karedanna cd! a fandom friend sent a rip to myself and my also-oushirou-lover friend, as we were waiting for ours to ship... and he proposes in it. my friend and i both made this day the wedding anniversary in commemoration. i even have some ancient joke art i made on the release day itself LMAO

i love him so much more than i think i let on; ren's my main right now, so that's what people know me for, but oushirou really is The Blueprint for me.
he's so self-driven. he could have lived a cushy, comfortable life following the family trade as a western fortune teller, but he would rather throw that -- and an unealthy relationship with his family -- away so he could follow his dreams of being a photographer and journalist.
and he's loyal. after his life is saved by another student (kazuki), and he realizes kazuki will be held back due to spending too many days recovering from the injuries he incurred, he makes sure he's also held back a year so he can play as kazuki's right-hand-man during the remainder of their time at seigetsu academy.
also like... ngl, him being a scorpio is like 👀 he's a freak like me LMAOOOO we can be like "every zodiac girlie hates our pussiessss" together. 💖
oh. and then of course he's the Ambiguously Queer Character of the series. he's a little fruity w it in general, he loves crossdressing, he's flirty with kazuki, homare, and shiki, he's stated outright that his love for kazuki and tsukiko are equal and he can't decide between them, and his fashion sense is just a little cherry on top ksjdnfk.
ugh. honeybee's just itching to call him a slur i s2g.... wait omg wait they actually had some one-off characters call him a slur in his first route KJASNDKDJNSDFKJN WAIT???????? I JUST REMEMBERED??????? it was one of the first scenes i translated from his route i'm lksnfkns oh my fucking god. and everything since then has been like. doubling down without actually calling him anything. crying omg ksjdnfkjns.
ANYWAY. just a year ago, he was the character everybody associated me with, only beaten out once ren appeared. even my art username is based on him (zerofoursix -> 0-4-6 -> o-shi-ro -> oushirou). he's pulled me through so many things, from shitty college experiences to my health issues... to even being part of the reason why i picked art back up after i took a 5-6yr hiatus due to art school burnout. ;;
i love him so so much, forever and ever, my beloved hentai sentai red*, my adhd king, my most skilled f/o by a LONG shot**, my scorpio twin, my misunderstood weirdo... he's Everything to me 😭💗
* think i've posted about it once before, but it's a running joke that he's a sentai hero who regularly saves tsukiko from creeps in his AW route ;;
** photographer, journalist, multilingual, fashion-forward, western fortune teller, super emotionally intelligent... i could go on. the guy hides SO MUCH of his power level around others.

I've been a bit busy so I'll post an update :) I will cross post this onto main eventually. I recently received merch hauls from Japan.
I'm very happy to get to add to my JuAli, LimGuda, KuroEne, and Hibari and Xanxus merch collections 🥰💗 I've added to my collection of physical merch of my fave charas and ships <3

I originally intended to keep my main account as just an art blog, but my friends convinced me to start posting my scans publically, so I'll eventually post my scans there. I also understand wanting to archive arts for archival purposes.
When I do, I will post them on main. I scan things for my fave interests: KHR, Magi, KagePro, and many more!

I got my hands on Akira Amano's KHR Exhibition artworks and scanned her "Akira Amano in Kyoto" KHR postcard set artworks.
I plan to scan stuff from Amano's The Characters Exhibition. I prioritize anything of Xanxus and Hibari, my KHR faves. On a secondary level, I prioritize anything of the Varia ^^
Xanxus is wearing purple and blue feathers in the recent art... Selena colours... This is such fuel for my XanLena ship ❤️💜💙
(Selena is my Viet NB KHR OC ^^ My wife!!! An assassin with a soft and gentle personality that prefers to keep to herself. Can be aloof at times. She likes gardening and collecting clothes as hobbies, and collecting endangered species, has man-eating/poisonous plants)

I think most Magi official arts have been scanned already, but I do intend to scan some Magi things eventually. I plan on translating the JuAli doujinshi I have eventually, and I have some Magi official arts to scan.
I do believe I have the JuAli chibi stickers and Nininbaori tournament Omake to scan (I bought the physical paper since it wasn't included in the volume version grrr)
They're arts that are already available online, but I think it'll still be cool to scan :) I prioritize anything related to Judar and Alibaba, my Magi faves.

The only difference is the cover. The contents are the same.

Kuroha/Saeru: Outer Science illustration from Sidu's artbook .dsd/V - Can Badge Merch
As always, I prioritize 9/6 when it comes to archiving KagePro arts (anything related to Kuroha, Takane/Ene, Haruka, Konoha). Other than 9/6, I'm interested in archiving Ayano and Mary's arts. I do intend to scan other chara arts later ^^
I'll be scanning slowly at my own pace, whenever I have free time. I'm still an amateur/hobbyist scanner, so please excuse if there are particles like dust on my scans.
I tend to re-scan stuff a LOT to try and remove as much of it as possible. Scanning is very time consuming and something I do as a hobby. My scanner scans very slow, but the quality comes out relatively good ^^ So I'll try my best.
Since Sidu's artbooks are 200 pages. I'll mainly focus on Sidu's new KagePro artworks in .dsd/V since most of them haven't been scanned online. Though I do intend to scan the other stuff eventually.
I sifted through the pages of .dsd/V, Sidu's most recent artbook that contains new KagePro arts that haven't been scanned yet.
I can already tell Sidu's Outer Science Kuroha/Saeru illust in .dsd/V is gonna give me so much trouble to try to scan and edit 😭
The colours are MUCH darker in the physical book. I'm pretty sure KagePro merch that uses Sidu's .dsd/V arts brightened the colours
I'll do my best. If the scan doesn't come out good, I also have mutuals in the scanlation community that can help me to make the scan look passable 🙏
I keep FGO scans private to mutuals only because FGO's official and fan-artists are VERY active in the community. They generally have rules to NOT share their personal works and doujinshis publically, which I will respect.
Scanning
I was originally very private about my interests and only talked about them in private Discord servers with friends, but I've opened up a lot more and started posting ideas publically within the past year :)
I think Tumblr has a file limit so the super high-res versions can't be posted, but I'll post them at a still relatively good quality
At first I only shared scans with my mutuals because I was very against the idea of my scans getting circulated beyond my control, reposted in low quality, and people possibly misusing my scans, etc.
I'd feel disrespected if that happened, cuz scanning is something I do in my free time.
My friends also do scanning stuff, and they also understood why some scanners are more selective about their scans. I was in this category too - I only let my mutuals have access to my scans.
Some scanners have laxer or stricter rules, choosing to share publically or only sharing in private spaces. I was only sharing my scans in private spaces since 2021.
My mutuals will have access to the OG files of my scans because I trust them to not misuse them. It gives me more comfort when I know who I personally gave permission to.
With that being said, I'd find it very disingenuous if people tried to become mutuals with me just to have access to my scans. Like... stuff like that happens naturally.
The exceptions in which I would give permission to non-mutuals to access the OG files of my scans would be if you're a scanner/archiver intending to edit and clean my scans, etc., for a community. If it's for something like a fandom wiki, I would generally give permission.

Please dont encourage people to use the manga section as a dating opportunity. When Viz released an English version of the Ranma 1/2 artbook, all i wanted to do was focus on Takahashi's artwork. I had been looking forward to it for weeks, and on release day, sprinted for the manga section. I was so happy to actually find it, instead of waiting for the bookstore to later stock it. But these guys kept bugging me and wouldn't go away until i gave them a dead email.

AAIC: The Gallery - Documentation
This is the 10th post in the Ace Attorney Investigations Collection Countdown: 71 days left until release!

I find documentation a bit of a weird name for it but this is the part of the gallery where you can see character design sheets, sketches and other illustrations. Both the TGAA Chronicles and the AJ Trilogy had such a section so it's especially nice to have the trend continue for this collection as well. It's divided into two parts, "Design Specs" for the sketches and design sheets and "Special Exhibits" for the other illustrations.
The design sheets seem to be a combination of the Investigations artbook and complete guide. I can't say for sure because you can't see the details and I have neither book in my possession, just judging from scans I've seen. I'm really happy to see all the design sketches but they seem to have skipped the drawings of the characters' animations and the commentary on the sketches. The former is somewhat understandable since you can easily look at all of the animations proper in the character compendium but I would be pretty sad about the latter. I always love reading the thoughts behind character designs and the characters themselves. I'm trying to get the companion books for the Investigations games anyway but they're still only available in Japanese so I can't read the text. I don't want to complain too much before I've actually confirmed this as it's entirely possible that they just don't want to focus on the text in these screenshots. We'll see.
The other illustrations seem to be special artworks of various types, like covers, promotional material or limited edition illustrations. I can even spot the comic for the Limited Edition of Investigations 1 in the corner! (I wonder if they'll translate it...) I know and love all of these amazing artworks so it's going to be great to have them in such high resolution in one place!
As for other things I noticed there seems to be a consistent disc icon in the corner of every screen in the gallery that was there in the character compendium as well. It could be a shortcut to the music collection part but why only to that and none of the others? Maybe it's a way to pick the music that plays in the gallery? That'd be cool!

Hello! It has been a day since our campaign has officially ended.
While we unfortunately did not reach our funding goal, we would like to thank everyone for joining and supporting us in our first ever Kickstarter campaign. Again, words alone cannot express our appreciation—your support means the world to us and motivates us to continue our creative endeavours.

This survey is intended for everyone, even if you are not a backer. It will serve as a mailing list for our future crowdfunding campaigns, in which emails will be limited to prelaunch and launch notifications. Please rest assured we will not use your email for any other purposes. You can email us anytime to opt out.
In our previous update, we mentioned we have a surprise for backers, which we will be fulfilling via backers-only update on this Kickstarter project. (As it turns out, unsuccessful projects can still post backers-only updates. We apologize for any confusion.) We are working hard and we hope to deliver the good news early next week. Please stay tuned!
What does this mean for the game?
We have touched upon this in a previous update. Kickstarter will cancel all pledges. No rewards will be produced, however we plan to release the following for sale in the future:
Epilogue DLC “Wedding Day”: a new 3-part story with new sprites for the major characters. KS-exclusive CGs and content that are part of the backer rewards will not be produced.
Digital Artbook: will only contain contents of the free release. Any KS-exclusive content or content that were planned for the extended version, MY DEAR☆LOVE PLUS+, will not be produced.
As stated in our campaign, MY DEAR☆LOVE is set to release for free and will be developed regardless of funding. We will continue to post updates on X (Twitter) and itch.io as development progresses. As of now, the free game is anticipated to release in December 2024.

We are currently working on polishing the demo for the upcoming Steam Next Fest with enhanced functions of the actual game mechanics, more complete graphics including character sprites, cut-ins and GUI; camera work and staging effects and etc. Any bugs found will be fixed as well. We may not be able to post regularly as we will be busy with game development, but we will remain active in the community because we are 100% dedicated to delivering this project!
Takeaways and Future Plans
Since H9O6 is a small studio that is completely self-funded, development can take much longer than expected due to time constraints and the lack of funding. To help speed up game development, we plan to offer exclusive in-depth progress reports and behind-the-scenes content of our projects through Ko-fi membership. We are still working on setting things up - follow us on our socials for more details!
This campaign has been an incredible journey for us, and we have learned a lot from it. We know we are a new presence in the indie games scene, and we launched prematurely with very little marketing prior. In spite of this, we were able to raise 26% of our funding goal. While it may not seem much, with all things considered, we have grown immensely both as an indie studio and as individuals, and we believe this alone is the biggest gain we could have ever asked for.
We would like to thank our backers for choosing to place your trust in us. Every pledge was an encouragement and a celebration, and we are truly grateful for the support we had received. When we say your support means the world to us, we mean it from the bottom of our hearts. It is with your support that we are able to stay strong and continue our creative endeavours, and we hope you will join us in our new adventures.
Moving forward, we will focus on finishing MY DEAR☆LOVE and our next game. We still have plans to develop the extended version, MY DEAR☆LOVE PLUS+, but for the time being, MY DEAR☆LOVE will remain a free release. Hello, I'm Hinata, the project lead and lead artist of MY DEAR☆LOVE.
My passion of creating multimedia contents has stemmed from my childhood—growing up with heavy indulgence of Japanese subcultures, especially works from the 80's and 90's. To pursue further, I had studied arts and Game Design at school. However, my creative pursuit had never been supported or regarded as worthwhile by the people around me. Thus, I had to give up due to family reasons.
Some time earlier this year, as I was tidying up the house, I rediscovered my school work that had yellowed over time. Interestingly, there were many pieces I remembered clearly, to the extent of every detail on how I brainstormed, how I felt, and how I painted. The flashback was as vivid as it could be, and I realized that it's time to take a step forward.
I would like to thank you all who have been standing alongside in the course of this campaign. It is my honour to have support, to receive feedback, and to witness the interest shown from you lovely people, because it's you who made me realize that there is no better world than this.

Hello! I am Oki and I am in charge of translation and other graphics of MY DEAR☆LOVE.
I have always been labelled as a daydreamer since childhood. I was the typical quiet kid in class, who was always either drawing or reading. My love for storytelling started early, and it grew much stronger when I was introduced to mainstream video games, through which I recognized the wonder of interactive fiction and the potential of video games as a form of artful entertainment. I went on to study game art, but I unfortunately lost the opportunity to pursue it as a career due to family issues and associated mental health problems.
For the past few years, I had struggled to give up pursuing creative endeavours as a career. I felt I had been lost for a long time, but I am ready to take chances now, because I know this is where my passion lies. I am proud of our immense growth over this short period of time, and I am confident that this campaign will serve as both a valuable learning experience and an important first step forward in our journey. Thank you for your belief in our work, and I hope to see you again very soon.
