enemies to lovers but it’s years down the line and they’re settled and domestic and their lives have blended together, maybe they even have some kids, and the enemies portion of their story is just the thing they use to roast one another endlessly

Yeah, also of note in ESB: in the scene right before The Most Awkward Dinner Party of All Time, Han is obviously trying his very best to trust his old buddy Lando, and he does dismiss Leia's concerns somewhat in an attempt to calm her down. But he mentions that Lando probably has people who can fix Threepio and Leia's like, "Yeah, no. Absolutely not." And then Lando busts in, offers the exact thing that Han just suggested, and Han just turns him down.

And, like, I know part of his response is for the joke, but also how often have we seen media where the response would be something like, "Well, somebody is against it or I would totally take you up on that offer" or even just straight-up saying, "Sure! Thanks, pal! What a kind offer!"? Like, he keeps their disagreement between him and Leia and presents a united front to Lando, and I know I'm reading far, far more into this that anyone ever intended, but it's just a decent example of an actually healthy dynamic around couple disagreements, personal preferences, and boundaries that is often ignored for a joke in a lot of media.

This is why when people act like Han and Leia's relationship would just be rife with bickering and endless misery, I'm genuinely like...did we watch the same movies? Because they bickered a bunch before they worked things out...and after they worked things out, there were disagreements and even frustration, but they seem to actually be on each other's team?

I mean, goodness gracious, at the beginning of ESB when Han doesn't get the emotional response he wants from Leia when he's leaving, he is a huge baby about it (I'm not saying either of them acted like mature adults in that scene, but he was being really dramatic). Compare that to ROTJ, when he thinks that Leia -- the woman he is in love with -- is literally in love with someone else, and he offers to step aside and not make it into a thing. Like, these people care about each other and appear to be on each other's side once they're able to get past whatever had them all worked up at the beginning of ESB.

Anyway...this got really long...but, yeah, Han actually cares about Leia and stops being an asshole way earlier than people often give him credit for.

How have I somehow never noticed until now that after Leia angrily tells Han to stop using royal nicknames for her, he never once refers to her that way again. In both ESB and ROTJ. He actually respected her request omfg

How Do You Know? (Han Solo x Leia Organa)

Hanleia Week Day One: Tradition. Feat. Anakin Solo. @hanleiacelebration

"I love you."

"I know."

"Why do you guys always say that?"

"Huh?" Han tried not to jump in surprise as he looked down at the budding adolescent beside him. His children had a nasty habit of being able to hide their presence until it was too late.

Young Anakin's nose crinkled. "Why do you always say 'I know' whenever the other one says 'I love you'? Aren't you supposed to say 'I love you' back?"

Han couldn't help the lopsided grin that tugged at the corner of his mouth.

"Do you want to tell him, Princess?" he asked.

Leia laughed softly, haloed in the blue light of her hologram, "It's a bit of a tradition at this point. We said it to each other once, and now it's just natural."

"But doesn't it sound kind of... Smug?" Anakin asked. He'd always had trouble with social norms and expectations. Han squeezed his baby boy's shoulder in reassurance.

"Your father is smug, honey," Leia explained in the same reassuring tone.

"Your mother's not off the hook either," Han insisted.

"How did it start?" Anakin asked, "Were you fighting, or...?"

"All the time."

"Han!"

"Your mother and I had been kidnapped by Darth Vader, the bait in a trap for Uncle Luke. They were going to freeze me in carbonite, which they usually just use for storing tibanna gas to ship out to other planets. The carbon freeze is great for preserving the gas and fuel, but they didn't know if it would kill me or not."

"But it didn't!" Anakin said quickly, his face pale and eyes wide.

"It didn't," Han reassured him, "But it was pretty scary. And that was the first time your mom told me that she loved me."

"In front of Grandpa?"

"Darth Vader is not your grandfather," Leia said in her no-nonsense tone, the one that still made Han's head spin.

Anakin looked thoughtful, "So when Mom said that she loved you, you just said 'I know'?"

"Okay, well it sounds bad when you put it like that-" He looked to Leia on the holo, hoping she would back him up.

Leia's hologram was smiling, that ice-melting, full body smile that must have been a Skywalker trait, her chin propped in her hand as she watched Han flounder.

"Wanna help me out here?"

"No, I think you got it, hotshot. Why did you say 'I know'?"

Han realized he had never really thought about it before. In the heat of the moment, in front of Vader, Fett, and half a platoon of stormtroopers, it just felt right. But why?

"Your mom's pretty tough, Nik," He said at last, "A senator, a princess, a general, she had to be. Back then, after everything that happened to her, she hated letting anyone get under her skin."

"Even you?" They were his parents, of course Anakin wouldn't be able to imagine a situation where they hated each other.

"Especially him," Leia grinned, "He was the worst."

"So when I told her 'I know', it was a way for me to tell her that I understood that she loved me, but also that I understood who she was as a person. That I knew how big it was that she told me this in front of people that hated us, and that I knew she would move the stars in order to save me."

Anakin was quiet now, deep in thought over this confession. Han glanced back at Leia, and caught a glimpse of her trying to wipe away her tears. He could hear Threepio in the background somewhere, asking if she required a handkerchief, but Leia dismissed him.

"Did you ever tell her you loved her back?" Anakin asked.

"Absolutely," Han beamed at his son. "When we were destroying the Death Star on Endor, she got shot protecting me. When I tried to help her, some stormtroopers cornered us and I thought it was all over. I'd have done anything to protect your mom then and there, but before I could do anything, Mom showed me that she was still holding her blaster. Since the stormtroopers didn't see it, she could take them by surprise.

"I knew I loved your mom before then, but that reminder of how strong she was, how smart she was, I was a goner."

"That's when he told me he loved me." Leia said. She sounded like a giddy schoolgirl rather than the chief of State, her chin propped up in her hands as she listened to Han talk about how much he loved her.

"And you told him that you knew?" Anakin asked.

"Yes, I knew. And I still know." Leia said.

Anakin's brow crinkled again, "When was the first time you told me that you loved me?" he asked the hologram of his mother.

"Oh, Anakin, I told you that I loved you before you were born," Leia said. Anakin's face grew red and shy, but he was the one who asked.

"Alright, Mom's gotta go now, kiddo, say goodbye."

"Bye, Mom!" Anakin waved to the hologram, and was quickly distracted by the puzzle games on his holo pad once again,leaving Han alone with his wife. Finally.

"I love you sweetheart. More than you know."

"Well I don't know about that," Leia teased. She blew a kiss through the holo.

"I'll see you tonight."

"Don't be late, I'm making grilled nuna and mashed potatoes."

Leia sighed, "I'm so glad I had babies with you."

Han couldn't stop a cocky grin, "I know."

Hello there. You're my giftee for the HanLeia Holiday exchange. When I found out, I was excited, and, I have to admit, kind of intimidated. Because you're such a legend among HanLeia shippers. And this is my first time ever participating in a huge fandom event like this. It'll be a challenge, but one I hope I'm worthy of rising to.

In regards to your prompts, I'm debating between going with the rumors one or the hidden talent one. With all due respect, I'm not familiar with the song "II Most Wanted," by Beyonce and Miley Cyrus. (Although, I will definitely give it a listen, in case it does spark some inspiration.)

Your likes and dislikes, wants and do not wants seem to be easy for me to stick to. Because I have similar tastes. In the end, I hope you enjoy whatever I end up writing.

I remember feeling similar to what you describe the first time I did one of these, both excited to do it and a little intimidated by the prospect at the same time. Honestly, I still get a little “I’m so excited / I’m so scared” even now because I always want to do right by my giftee. I’m confident you’ll do great. I was just wondering if anyone had any recommendations for my Leia playlist? I'm struggling a bit with trying to figure out what artists or songs she'd listen to/give off her vibes. I definitely think Fleetwood Mac since..well, Carrie Fisher and Stevie Nicks have always reminded me of eachother for some reason!

But other than that I'm not too sure. And I'm thinking of making maybe a hanleia playlist ad well! But I'm not sure if anyone would be interested. Lmk!!

there is no goodbye (the high republic) - an elzar-centric post-fallen star fic. won't say too much about this one bc spoilers but pretty much explores elzar's thoughts/feelings immediately after the fallen star ghosts that we knew (star wars rebels) - this is my next big rebels writing project! part sequel fic following the characters after rebels ends, part resurrection fic, all self-indulgent! UNTITLED (star wars rebels) - a post-s3 kanera fic. a could be canon fic exploring my interpretation of kanan and hera's relationship around this point in the show. pretty much all tender fluff! UNTITLED (original trilogy) - an esb hanleia fic aka the obligatory trip to bespin and leia coming to terms with her feelings fic! UNTITLED (star wars rebels/ahsoka show) - a sabine/shin (wolfwren) vampire/vampire hunter au UNTITLED (the acolyte) - a jecki and yord gen hurt/comfort 'they both survive khofar' au fic. not a lot of plot to this one, just wanted to write them comforting each other after being fucked up by the same event UNTITLED (the acolyte) - a yord-centric righteous vengeance crusade against qimir au (i don't actually have anything written for this. right now this is mostly just an idea that won't leave me alone and i would love to write it!)

and a few other wips from other fandoms:

forever is the sweetest con (tlou) - a joel/tess fic (which...this actually might be done?? i think i meant to write more, but i didn't leave myself any notes so idk where i was going to go further with this. and it leaves off on a good spot so this may or may not be added to!) UNTITLED (bbc merlin) - lancelot character study fic UNTITLED (rings of power) - a halbrand(sauron)/galadriel fic. mostly smut probably. some galadriel character study might worm its way in here. remembering (pjo; working title) - a posally fic dreams (pjo; another working title) - also a posally fic

i think those are all my main wips that i would like to (hopefully) get to this year! (sorry for the lack of titles lol. i tend to title my fics after i've finished them).

im being half delusional, but also some things make me 👀 bc what was the point of finn and poe discussing finn's love life and explicitly stating the 'just friends' thing with rey and rose in rr and all the hanleia parallels not just in the movies but comics and general framing

i know there's a finnpoe kiss somewhere in the vault /hj
