One of the pinnacles of Baroque music, and Western music as a whole: Handel’s Messiah, which he wrote in 3 weeks. One friend walked in on the German-British composer while composing it, to find him weeping uncontrollably. I can understand this, as the work has lifted my entire being since childhood. Anyone who has not been introduced to this magnum opus is missing out. Not only is the work so magnificent, but also a template in counterpoint, as shown in For unto us a child is born. Enjoy!

Theme is Detail. 

Just gorgeous, this detail on some random wall in Kom Ombo. The boat travelling through the reeds and lotus, the birds springing from the reeds. And that’s just the major panel.

Note the editing that’s happened to the figures in the boat - and to poor old Min who looks like he’s had his phallus chiselled off. Ouch!

Hard to tell if this is incised or low relief work.
