I have finished a pair of socks!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I like the pattern of the first sock more. I think the chaos suits the colors. But I like the second sock a bit more in general, because the cuff isn't as chaotic.
All in all it doesn't matter, because they are at home socks, and all the need to be is warm and comfy 😌
Thank you @roboticchibitan for making these socks possible with your hand dyed yarn 💛

These are my second attempt at knitting socks, I used the Hermione’s Everyday Sock pattern, it’s a very popular free pattern which uses misaligned knit and purls to create a texture along with a modified eye of partridge heel flap and gusset. I used West Yorkshire Spinners Signature 4-ply yarn in the Wood Pigeon colourway, hence why I call them my ‘pigeon socks’.
I took what I’d learned from my first pair of socks, which I had treated as a study and chance to experiment with how socks are made, and implemented it in these, mainly that I prefer DPN’s. Though I did take a risk on the second sock and tried out a pair of mini circs, I HATED them, I have a hypermobile disorder along with chronic tendonitis, I live in compression gloves as a result to manage the pain, the mini circs were so painful, it messed up my tension along with making the process less enjoyable and as a result I didn’t realise I’d messed up the pattern which is what you can see on the left sock in the image above, the one on the right has the correct texture. But despite that mess up I still love these socks and plan on knitting a pair using each of the bird themed yarns from West Yorkshire Spinners using different patterns.

I'm reading No Idle Hands: The Social History of American Knitting by Anne L. Macdonald and according to a woman from the 19th century who had traveled through the Oregon Trail, at the time:
“A good knitter in a long day could knit a pair of socks, the legs being six to eight inches long.”
Excuse me, what????

The finished fall Stardew Valley socks
I learned a lot from this project and while I still had a few issues with tension I feel a lot more confident with colourwork.

Finally finished and blocked these cute socks!
It was a fun experiment with color dominance in colorwork knitting and gave me a really thick, soft, cushiony fabric. They’re super comfy and almost more like slipper-socks.
Pattern: Call Them Cherry Blossoms by Tiina Kuu
Yarn: knitpicks palette and knitpicks stroll glimmer (discontinued)

April socks done!
I had to take a week off knitting, and the two weeks around that week I barely knitted, since I have this weird radiating pain from the outside of my shoulders. I still managed to finish these though! And I'm very happy with them. I don't know what yarn this is, as it’s the oldest sock yarn I had in my stash (hence why I chose to knit with it now). Still the same pattern as Februari and March, and the same as May will be (which I just started on! Handdyed yarn!)
Thank you and see you on the next update!

cleaning my room and i found the first thing i ever tried to knit as a child. theres a couple more strips of garter stitch done with clearly improved motor skills but i feel very sentimentaly attached to this somehow. it's like finding a preserved textile in a bog.

it's cool to compare it to my most recent finished object-- since actually teaching myself back in October. i love learning. i love seeing past evidence of my love of crafts.

I dyed this to pair with Haunted, and named it Batty.
I dyed these as they were twisted up, so the black and grey would not get to everything... I originally wanted to dye pastels into the white spots, but liked how smokey this felt.
50g sock yarn mini.

William's Willows Socks Pattern now available on my Etsy Shop and on Ravelry
My Instagram
“Have nothing in your house that you do not know to be useful, or believe to be beautiful.” -William Morris
These leafy socks are inspired by William Morris, one of the most important textile designers of the 19th century as well as a poet, artist and social activist. He was a major contributor to the revival of British textile crafts and production.
These socks are knit cuff down with the cuff worked in a rib stitch with US1.5 needles (2.5mm) which is then increased to US2.5 needles (3mm) for the colourwork. The heel is a slipped stitch heel flap and the toe is grafted with Kitchener stitch.

I'm getting to a point where I can knit basic socks almost entirely from memory. This pair is a gift to my partner.
