Finally finished the solid stitching, and by golly am I glad of that.
This kit has not been enjoyable at all as it ended up having 15 thread colours undersupplied that I had to replace with equivalent DMC threads. Significant sections in Q3 & 4, and all of the clouds in Q4 are composed of equivalent threads. The Q4 clouds also look different under certain lighting conditions to the Q3 clouds as the conversion thread equivalents were substantially different from supplied threads; I had to colour match as best I could & unpick that whole section 3 times as I worked through thread equivalent options.
Needless to say I sent the production company of the Dimensions Gold cross stitch kits a complaint as this is the worst quality kit from this line I have ever done in my 30 years of stitching.

I’m working on my first needlepoint project!!
(Fun fact that I just learned: needlepoint and cross stitch are both sub-types of embroidery.)
I got this magazine practically for free at a library book sale, and it came with the supplies you need to make the flower design on the front, as well as step-by-step instructions inside!
This was my first bit of progress, by June 30:
Progress that I then had to undo, because as it turns out, “one strand of stranded cotton” was not the thick strands I was supplied with exactly as they came. Those were BUNDLES of SIX STRANDS of stranded cotton. So my first stitch was six times thicker than it was supposed to be.
Once I took out that stitch and re-did it with my newly separated cotton, here was my next bit of progress, by July 21:
The blue flowers were a lot easier than the yellow flowers because I didn’t have to spend as much time counting. They were fun to make!
And here’s what I just finished!
The magazine has been pretty easy to follow along with so far, but I did have to look up videos on how to make an end knot, a starting knot(?), and the chain stitch I just finished. I didn’t understand the magazine instructions for that one.
Next up are French knots, woo-hoo! (My grandma just talked to me about these)

The Wedding Dress
Update The 2nd - I debated putting this in the original post but honestly its getting way too long so new post!
I have blocked the skirt! And she was big, measuring about 1.95 - 2m in diameter:
Yes, that is hanging on the wall in my halfway - that was the only place I could leave her safely away from my toddler for the 3 days it took to dry. I'm am still working out a way of blocking the bodice and hanging the entire thing back up to dry without the weight of the skirt dragging everything down while it's damp. Most likely i'll stuff the skirt into a laundry bag and suspend it underneath somehow. Previously the skirt hit me right under the knee but post-blocking it sits low to mid-calf length:
I have yet to finish the underdress, it's happening, I'm just really not keen on cutting pattern pieces recently.

a gif showing the progress on my mini cross stitch sunflowers! i've been working on this one for a couple weeks and i'm very glad i took so many photos along the way!
hoping to have this done by the weekend - it's going faster now that i'm down to mostly the table, vase, and background, which use a lot less colors than the flowers
thanks for reading!
