Every time I think about how Ren genuinely believed he had managed to build a good relationship with Strade and that Strade had loved him, how he viewed Strade as someone to look up to and learn from, how even after he had come to resent Strade and tried to deny the impact of the abuse Strade put him through he still had that sensitive spot that perked him up in fear, anger, longing.. I just get hit with this wave of despair, sadness, and a bit of understanding. He truly never had anyone care for him, and having Strade doing the bare minimum in order for Ren to survive warped his mindset to such an extent. Not to even start with how Strade viewed Ren as more of a pet or a possession. Whether Ren knew this or not, whether he had come to terms with it or not, he still held that small bit of doubt in him, since even if he wasn't exactly a PERSON to Strade, he was still cared for. He was "loved" in SOME way, he was WANTED. And he misses just that attention and affection he was given when he wasn't being tortured. Sigh

guys do we think we vilify ford too much

Look I KNOW the 2015 stan wars lore. I know the IMMENSE amount of ford hate that existed (and still exits somewhere) when not what he seems first aired. I know. i KNOW.

But with the modern fandom I feel like a lot of people make Ford a lot more crueler in fanart, fan fic, any type of fan work, specifically to try and avoid making him seem like a 100% good character.

I don't know if that makes sense, but i feel like so much of the modern fandom want to avoid the "trap" of worshipping a character that has done morally grey things, in this case Ford.

I'm not quite sure if my point makes sense here, but the over villification I've see in SOME fanworks (no disparaging!! They are still all so good don't stop) and I'm not talking about the evil ford aus, I'm talking about canon adjacent fan works that make ford more mean than he is. To the point where when I rewatch the actual series, I get whiplash from how silly canon ford actually is.

I have no examples and I actually don't think this ramble makes too much sense, but I just think a lot of the fandom over vilified ford to try and avoid making him seem over heroic.

Also I think a lot of people do this in fear of making twink ford. Which. Ok fair.

Fors is a flawed, sometimes morally grey character. He is led by paranoia and insecurity. But he isn't mean or cold or kid hating, (especially post weirdmagedon) he's just a lil autistic

Ight im analyzing Bake no hana or “flower of transformation” cus its in my brain

Spoilers for mizu5 (obv but heres your warning)

This is mostly line distribution but feel free to add more

So the first lines are about mizuki (obviously)

Probably about people looking at them weirdly and how they’re used to it — and how they’re cute but its “wrong” its “a sin”

Also this is a music thing but enas lyric “its off” is off beat with the song as well

Then more about mizuki crumbling and breaking sown with their secret because it was revealed before they could reveal it themselves

Next, i find it interesting how every time this lime is sung its by kanade, mafuyu, or both (+kaito)

Which could be in reference to the fact that neither of them were there when everything went down

They also seem to take on more narrator roles like in the beginning

Following this, Ena sings this line every time as well — likely in reference to her not being able to say anything to mizuki and being unable to take back the look on her face when mizuki found her—a face that could be seen aa disgust or “ugly” - “makeup” because its not how ena truly feels

(Which btw—i believe was mainly in part to “oh shit i just found out the secret ive been patiently waiting for before i was told and now i feel awful” and not “oh my god mizuki is trans” or whatever your interpretation of that is considering THEY STILL HAVENT CONFIRMED ANYTHING—which is slightly frustrating but alas we can wait)

Next, either mizuki not wanting to go back because they are tired of running—or even (and im leaning towards this one) they cant go bavk to being a kid, to being “how they were”,

“Blossoming” into this flower, they cant go back and not be trans, theyve bloomed into who they are, even if its “off” and “a sin”

(Im trying not to push trans stuff (NOT /neg) and just look at it as it is but its really hard to see it another way for me /lh —a trans person)

Next, another song thing—when mizuki tells everyone to disappear—they do

No one else sings except kaito, and then when they sing “stay with me” they come back

Then they repeat lines with kaito which could mean something-but it may also just be adding kaito to make it different the second time around because music theory

Nearing the end—this may very well be 1: mizuki not knowing the future and mafuyu-ing into sekai

But it could also be a nod to the player—not knowing the future-and until they do mizuki not showing up in the “real world”

And finally—the curse of being born the way they are, they’ve had enough of running (away from their problems, their mistakes) and have essentially done the game equivalent of —well— disappearing

Overall i really want a full version and i think what we have so far is very interesting—i dont have jpsekai so im probably missing some stuff-but i have seen mizu5 so thats where most of this came from

You know what makes me sad and upset about Ren

He lost his siblings, then get kidnapped by Strade and getting r worded, cut and hurt and treated like shit and he had to suffer from that asshole then Ren got Stockholm Syndrome, PTSD and trauma, even Strade teach him how to kill and torture a person and kidnapping someone he was only 19!?

After Strade died he kept those teaches in his head and he was about to drug Lawrence but if MC takes Lawrence's drink MC gets knocked out then taken to used to be Strade's house but now Ren's house, then Ren puts a shock collar and chain MC. Look i know there's different endings on the game but still and on the other endings he cried because he was he killed Strade which he didn't then he said he should've saved him and think Strade loved him that's a huge sign of Stockholm Syndrome it really upset me makes wanna cry because Strade doesn't love Ren he just loves hurting him

Than when Ren hit 47 years on TPOF he turned into a human trafficker selling MC to Derek, Celia or Mason but if you chose to pick Fox/Ren he would kill you and torture you more violently then the other characters ever did

This is why I feel awful and sad for Ren that's my rent...

Volume 1 ~ Chapter 5: The Emotion She Lacks

“Wanting to be loved seems hopeless the more you yearn for it.” The most heartfelt and relatable line in volume 1 of skip beat. There is nothing in this world I understand and relate to more than heartbreak. I’ve experienced every type of heartbreak a person could experience but much like Kyoko up to this current chapter, I’ve never experienced love being reciprocated. You spend so much time loving and caring for another person that you happen to lose yourself in the end. Love feels like such a basic human experience that everyone has felt at least once in their life and you for whatever reason can’t possibly experience what it feels like to be loved, no matter how bad you want to. So much so that the emotion that everyone has within them “love” turns into the exact opposite “hate”. Hatred for love, hatred for yourself for being incapable of being loved, and hatred for the people who get to experience it with ease. Yoshiki Nakamura did an excellent job at capturing this feeling and putting it into words. It almost makes you feel like Kyoko can speak, feel, and react to the thoughts you yourself can’t even express. I think this is the best panel in volume 1.

It's interesting seeing a fair amount of people in the Hanako tag complaining about recent chapters because my experience is catching up recently after not reading it for a while, so these chapters just made me remember how much I like these characters and how fun the interactions are and how absolutely devastating the manga is. Also, the severance mega arc was FULL of A*oi/A*kane (I swear to god i almost threw my kindle in that part where he grabbed her throat i may have to skip over that episode when the anime gets to it SHE DESERVES SO MUCH BETTER) (no i don't care that she nearly killed him earlier she was kinda brainwashed it's different also she should have finished the job), which is one of my most disliked parts of the manga, and I wasn't super crazy about Sumire and Hakubo's whole thing (I didn't hate it, it was clearly intentionally fucked up and that's interesting, but I wasn't super invested, Hakubo just wasn't interesting to me at all, though in contrast Sumire was a fascinating character and I wish we'd gotten more of her pov).

(Though obviously the Red House arc within was fantastic and perfect, and the Teru and Kou stuff and Hana Nene scenes got me emotionally like the sucker I am...the conclusion was good overall, so I don't know why I stopped there, I think I just got busy and was a bit burnt out by all that came before it)

So reading the recent chapters where we've finally moved on from that stuff, but had a lot of fun character interactions and weird scenarios and feels...this arc is focusing on things that are a lot more interesting to me.

( and a*kane...actually being tolerable??? He's always at his best when interacting with Teru, so that's not so surprising, but he has been surprisingly not as weird about aoi too, actually putting his happiness regarding her aside to see if this timeline was objectively better for everyone was surprising for him, and the first time the manga shown him to not be wildly possessive towards her so uh. good for him. And his reaction to the well and trying to help Teru was heartbreaking)

Probably why it's a good idea to take a bit of a break when something's gotten low priority or a tiny bit frustrating. Coming back to something and being like "oh I missed these losers oh I love them" will really help you see the strengths and focus on the bright side. The last two chapters were a bit of a jarring tone shift but kitty and nene getting to save the day mostly make up for that. So proud of my girl;.

Let me start off by saying this arc is the reason I hate amnesia plots. Like it’s the ONE TROPE I absolutely despise.  You want to know why I started hating this trope.  This amnesia plot.  Now when I see media with it, it gives me the ick.  Seriously though I dislike Umi with passion.  I’m sorry but I do.

Now I’ve mentioned to a few of you over messages (you should totally message me; I love talking about fic and HYD in general). I like Otome Games.  Now you are probably like Helen, what does this have to do with Hana Yori Dango.  Let me tell you, Otome games like to use the Amnesia trope quite frequently and it’s almost caused me to rage quit.  It is also the reason why I only just played Amnesia, and its fan disks the past year.  Which let you tell you Toma’s route is wild.

So back to my discussion of the Amnesia Trope. There was this one game I played called Lover Pretend and let me tell you. I disliked Kazuma already, but when he woke up at the hospital and he forgot the main heroine, I lost it. That game is one of my least favorite games I've ever played. I also think it’s the reason I dislike modern days games now.

See what that plot has done to me. I can't even enjoy media with amnesia plots now. When I was dragged to go see the movie The Vow years back, I walked out of the movie pissed. Yes, I get it's a true story, but still I didn't enjoy the film and its ending. So, thank you Hana Yori Dango for writing a plot that I will never ever use in any literary work I’ll write because of how much I despise this arc.
