Name: Lulu Kurun

Debut: 2023

Kurun is the name of a kind hearted Labrador. One day he had to leave his human and go to 'Angel Land', a beautiful island in the clouds. Deceased pets in Angel Land spend their time playing, making friends, and watching over their loved ones, waiting for the day they can meet again.

Lulu Kurun was part of the Next Kawaii project, where they placed 8th overall.

It seems quite obvious that this is meant to be a troupe of deceased pets. Which is quite depressing for a line of cute Sanrio characters. I suppose the aim was to make a unique concept and maybe help destigmatize death. A lot of the Next Kawaii Project characters tried to tackle difficult topic like low self esteem, but Lulu Kurun is truly wild for having dead pets be their central characters.

Maybe some children will see these characters and feel a bit better about their recently deceased pet, but I think the dark subject matter sabotaged these guys from placing any higher in the competition. They lost to the Puripuriunpis, which literally look like shit.

The designs are very sweet tho, I can see an animated short being made about them in the future. But I won't hold my breath.

Imagine you and your f/o are hamsters and are forced to compete in one of those "hamster squid games" YouTube video. The owner of the channel is neglectful and abusive and don't truly care about your well-being and only about the views. The two of you are forced to cross a bridge where the floor randomly dissapears. You are running across on your little legs when suddenly it disappears, your back legs slip through. You squeak in shock. Your f/o sqcreams (squeak + screams) in anguish and before you can react your f/o headbutts your rearend helping to push you back onto the bridge but they fall through the hole. The fall is too high for your f/o's hamster body and they die. You cry in anguish and your owner holds you up as the victor and the grab another hamster who looks a little like your f/o and pretends that they are your f/o and that they are ok but they are not.
