Trivia Tuesday —Hellcats Origin

Did You Know that the Hellcat armor was designed by concept artist Kory Lynn Hubbel in conjunction with a fan as part of a charity contest? This fan, Andrew Thivyanathan, was also featured as character in-game who can be found working as a de-glasser on Meridian.

Andrew wanted Hellcat to be based on the armor worn by Ancestor warriors in Halo 4's terminals. This remains the in-universe explanation for the armor as well, with Hellcat being developed using ancient human technology collected by ONI.

I find they're relationship bittersweet, though, at the height of their relationship, I can tell how each of them truly care for one another and the lengths they're willing to go for each other. (plus they're super cute ^-^💕)

Hornet

The hornet is probably my favourite vehicle in the halo universe, I loved playing the missions where it gets used in halo 3. I find its design to be a pretty perfect balance of futuristic technology that seems possible and realistic military design, I especially liked it’s ability to carry extra troops which modern halo aircraft’s don’t normally do in such an interesting fashion

The AV-14 Hornet is a VTOL capable aircraft in service since at least 2524, during the Insurrection. It served all the way into the Human-Covenant War from the Battle for Arcadia to the Battle of Installation 00.

The Hornet is often the mainline UNSC aircraft, that can carry two passengers and can hover in place over areas.

The most analogous vehicle to the Hornet is the Falcon, seen during the events Halo: Reach. It acts as the mainline UNSC air that game as well and features dual gunner seats. In-game versions can carry more passengers and some have a pilot-controlled main gun.

Halo 5 Banshee Ultra

This was the first time for a couple of things. For one, it was my first time messing with a model from a game less than a decade old. I was originally planning to just use the in-game model as a reference, like I usually do, but it quickly became apparent that this thing is just too... weird.

The "mouth" area in particular is just such a bizarre conglomeration of shapes; I still don't quite understand how they're supposed to go together. I suppose that's appropriate for an alien vessel, but the end result for me was that it was far more expedient to modify the in-game file rather than create something entirely new. Since I wasn't planning on selling these, I figured it wouldn't be a problem.

I originally wanted to make the hatch able to hinge open and closed, but it turned out that--unless I'm misinterpreting the model--the way it works in-game is physically impossible. It has to phase through itself when it opens.

The other big first for me with this commission was my first proper foray into the use of TurboDork's color-shifting paints. While I like how the stand came out, the flakes in that blue are awfully big, and the color isn't a perfect match. Someday I want to do another of these just for fun and try again with a more traditional color scheme.
