A Little Sunshine and Some Explosions

Katsuki Bakugo x Fem!Reader ︶꒦꒷♡꒷꒦︶︶꒦꒷♡꒷꒦︶︶꒦꒷♡꒷꒦︶︶꒦꒷꒷꒦︶
The vibrant hues of autumn blanketed U.A. Academy as you made your way across campus, the cool breeze dancing around you and rustling the leaves underfoot. The air was rich with the smell of pumpkin spice, and laughter echoed from groups of students sharing their Halloween plans. It felt like everyone was caught up in the spirit of the season, and you couldn’t help but feel that familiar buzz of excitement tingling in your chest.
You approached your dorm, anticipation bubbling inside you as you unlocked the door. The moment you stepped inside, the warmth of the room enveloped you. Katsuki Bakugo was sprawled on your couch, his muscular frame taking up a substantial portion of the seat. His signature scowl was set in place as he scrolled through his phone, completely engrossed. The sight made you smile; it was comforting to see him in a familiar environment, surrounded by your own Halloween decorations—a mishmash of pumpkins, string lights, and cheesy ghost cutouts that you had hung up just a few days ago.
“Hey, idiot,” he grunted, his eyes still glued to the screen as you kicked off your shoes and flopped down beside him.
“Hey, Katsuki! Are you ready for Halloween?” you chirped, unable to keep the excitement from your voice. You could practically feel your smile radiating through the air.
He finally glanced over, eyebrows raised, clearly unimpressed. “We’re just picking out pumpkins, right? This isn’t some Halloween parade.”
“Of course! But I thought we could carve them together afterward, and maybe bake some spooky cookies? It’ll be fun!” You reached for a pumpkin-shaped cookie cutter you’d set on the table, holding it up with pride.
Bakugo rolled his eyes, but you caught the slight twitch of his lips that hinted he was fighting back a smile. “Why would I wanna bake cookies when we could just order takeout? It’s Halloween; I’m not wasting my time on baking when I could be blowing stuff up.”
“Blowing stuff up is not on the agenda, mister!” you said, shaking your head as you leaned closer to him. “It’s about having fun! And you can’t deny that pumpkin cookies are the best.”
“Whatever. You’re a dork,” he shot back, but his tone was lighter than before, the corners of his mouth betraying him again.
You turned your attention to the assortment of pumpkins on the table, looking for the perfect one to carve. “So, I was thinking about our costumes. You’ll be Bowser, right? I can’t wait to be Princess Peach!”
“Peach? Seriously?” He raised an eyebrow, looking genuinely puzzled. “You wanna wear a frilly pink dress? Do you even have any idea how ridiculous that sounds?”
“Yes! It’ll be adorable! And don’t pretend you don’t want to wear the Bowser costume. It’ll be hilarious!” You beamed at him, knowing you could break through his tough exterior if you just kept pushing a little.
He let out an exasperated sigh, but you could see the hint of interest flickering in his eyes. “Yeah, and I’ll look like an idiot.”
“An adorable idiot,” you corrected with a playful nudge. “I have a plan to make it epic!”
Bakugo crossed his arms, still pretending to be uninterested, but you could see the way he leaned in slightly, as if he was genuinely intrigued. “What’s the plan then, oh great costume designer?”
You laughed, moving to your closet and rummaging through your supplies. “Well, since I have curly brown hair, I thought we could dye my hair for the costume! I need to be the real Princess Peach, and that means I need to look the part!”
Bakugo raised an eyebrow, his gaze steady. “You think dyeing your hair is gonna make you look like a princess?”
“Of course! I’m going to bleach it first and then add some cute pink streaks!” You held up the bottles of bleach and dye, your eyes sparkling with excitement. “And you get to help me!”
“Help you?” He scoffed, leaning back against the couch with a dismissive expression. “You think I’m gonna sit around while you turn your hair into a rainbow?”
“Come on! It’ll be fun! Plus, it’s Halloween, and you can’t just say no to your adorable girlfriend,” you said, grinning widely.
“Don’t use that on me,” he grumbled, but there was an unmistakable warmth in his voice that made you feel giddy inside. You knew he was softening, even if he didn’t want to admit it.
With a triumphant smile, you grabbed a chair and placed it in front of your bathroom mirror. “Alright, let’s get started! You can be my dye assistant!”
He begrudgingly stood up, his gruff demeanor still in place, but you caught the slight hint of a smile on his lips as he followed you. “Just don’t get any of this on me,” he warned, crossing his arms again as you set everything up.
“I promise I won’t! Just sit still, and don’t complain too much,” you replied, trying to keep a straight face as you prepared the bleach.
As you began the process, you couldn’t help but steal glances at Bakugo. He was watching intently, and despite his grumpy exterior, you sensed a certain fondness in his gaze. “You know,” you said, trying to fill the silence, “I really appreciate you helping me with this. I know it’s not your usual thing.”
“Don’t think I’m doing this for you,” he shot back, but his tone was less harsh than usual, and you could see the way he fought back a smile. “I just don’t want you to look like a total idiot.”
You giggled as you applied the bleach, careful to follow the instructions. “You say that, but I know you’re secretly enjoying this. I can tell!”
He rolled his eyes but didn’t deny it. “I’ll enjoy it even more if it doesn’t take forever. Just don’t mess it up.”
After a while, the bleach was ready to be rinsed out, and as you moved to wash your hair, you caught his eye in the mirror. “See? It’s not so bad being a little creative. Halloween is all about fun!”
Bakugo just shrugged, trying to act tough. “Fun doesn’t mean looking like a clown.”
“Maybe for you,” you teased, splashing some water playfully toward him. He flinched back, eyebrows furrowing as a drop hit his arm.
“Hey! Watch it, idiot!” he snapped, but you could see the amusement dancing in his eyes.
Once your hair was rinsed and ready for the dye, you held up the pink dye with a triumphant grin. “Now for the best part!”
Bakugo crossed his arms again, watching with a mix of skepticism and curiosity. “Are you sure this is gonna look good? I don’t want to be the one who has to tell you it’s a disaster.”
“Trust me, it’ll look amazing!” You applied the dye carefully, trying to keep your hands steady as you worked. “And it’ll look even better with your Bowser costume.”
“Yeah, yeah,” he replied, but you could tell he was softening, that glimmer of interest growing as he watched you work.
When you finished, you stepped back and admired your handiwork in the mirror, your hair now a lovely shade of pastel pink with soft curls framing your face. You turned to Bakugo, your heart racing. “How does it look?”
He stepped closer, scrutinizing your hair with a serious expression. “It actually looks decent,” he admitted, his voice gruff but with a hint of something warmer beneath it. “Not that I care or anything.”
You laughed, your joy spilling over as you turned back to the mirror, fluffing your hair with your hands. “See? I told you it would be worth it!”
“Now you just need a crown or something,” he muttered, still trying to maintain his grumpy facade but failing as he watched you with a hint of pride in his eyes.
“Right! Let’s find some accessories to complete the look. We need to make sure everyone knows who you’re dressed as!” You grabbed a bag filled with random Halloween decorations and began rummaging through it.
As you searched, Bakugo leaned against the doorframe, watching you with a relaxed posture that you didn’t often see. “You really like this, huh?” he asked, almost contemplative.
“Absolutely! It’s my favorite time of year. Plus, spending time with you makes it even better,” you replied, your sincerity shining through.
He glanced away, but you could see the faint blush creeping onto his cheeks. “Don’t go getting all mushy on me,” he grumbled, but there was no bite in his words.
You found a glittery crown that you’d made a few years back and placed it atop your head, spinning around dramatically. “Ta-da! Princess Peach, at your service!” You giggled, trying to mimic a royal voice.
Bakugo couldn’t help but chuckle, his scowl finally breaking. “You look ridiculous.”
“Ridiculously cute!” you shot back, playfully sticking out your tongue. “Now let’s find your Bowser accessories. I’m thinking something fierce!”
You rummaged through the bag until you found a pair of spiky wristbands. “Perfect! These will make you look intimidating!”
Bakugo took them, inspecting them closely before smirking. “I guess they’ll do. Just don’t expect me to act all goofy like you.”
“Aw, come on! Just a little bit of goofy is good for the soul!” you replied, bouncing on your toes with excitement. “How about a scary roar when we show up at the party?”
“Don’t push it,” he warned, but there was an unmistakable spark of mischief in his eyes.
As you moved to adjust the crown in the mirror, you felt a sudden burst of warmth in your heart. You turned to Bakugo, who was staring at you with an intensity that made your stomach flutter. “Thanks for spending time with me today. I know you could be doing anything else.”
He shrugged, a slight smile forming on his lips. “Don’t think it’s because I like you or anything. I just figured I’d make sure you don’t screw this up.”
“Right, right,” you teased, enjoying the banter. “But I’ll take it! Let’s have the best Halloween ever, Bowser and Peach style!”

🎃Wheel of Halloween🎃
There's a post of a tweet saying that every 31st of the month should be a Halloween, and you know what? I'm a Halloween Witch. I'm an Idolater. I'm an urban techno witch who lives an air conditioned life, can't stand nature bigger than a park or local landscaping, and hates leaving the city except to drive to another damn city.
I have been struggling to connect to the Wheel of the Year or the Solstices/Equinoxes for freaking years.
But a cycle of Halloweens?
That.
That I can fucking do.
So, without further ado, I present the shit I will be actually celebrating. Ya don't have to join me, but I will be posting about it for those that wanna follow along, with options and cutouts for those who don't want to or can't do the more party elements.
With luck, I'll pick up on August 31st and go from there, if not, I'll start with actual Halloween.
Halloween
October 31st
It's muthafucking Halloween. I have ideas and will post about them more as we get closer, but you know what this one is.
New Year's Eve
December 31st
This one actually also exists, but I have plans for tying it to the January 31st one to bookend the year. The primary purpose of this Eve is gratitude and sharing the good things from the year before, casting off the trappings of the old year, and to bring the new one in with luck and prosperity.
Candle's Eve
January 31st
One month from the casting out of the old year, it's time to set things for the new. Cleansing and cleaning, setting intentions (not resolutions) for the year to come, making the Mask of the Year to call on who I aspire to be, burning the intentions set last year with last years candle, and blessing a candle to burn this years intentions next year are all features. Food and drink suggestions available when I actually post this up.
Hallow Ides
March 31st
Couple of these have fun names, and this is one of them. It's a party holiday, involving a picnic and a special cake/cupcakes/muffins.
The costume element is that I'll swap clothes or looks with someone I'm celebrating with (or dress up as someone else if celebrating solo).
There's a drinking element (non-alcoholic is fine) that results in a stack o' good luck charms.
And for my trick, I can and will sing the filthiest songs, tell the dirtiest jokes, read a romance novel or erotica, just go ham on the bawdy shit.
Alternatives for ace and non-sexing folk will be forthcoming in the relevant post, but it's my damn Wheel and I'm doing bawdy shit for myself.
Blessed Eve
May 31st
Not a bonfire person, but I'm definitely gonna have a cookout and grill up some burgers! Also a neat drink and cookies that both double as offerings!
Flower masks and crowns are involved to hide from the spring spirits that might fux me upa.
There's a Blessing Bouquet that goes up early, is used to exorcise and re-bless my property/house, and then is ceremonially burned.
An ash blessing to seal the prosperity into my house ties the whole thing off.
Fortune's Eve
July 31st
This one pretty heavily revolves around a ritual game of betting and chance that I came up with based on a cool concept tied into the holiday I'm aiming at. Game generates lucky candy and a good luck charm.
Hella apples involved including a ceremonial apple and cider. Veils worn for the blindness of luck, and a strong theme of having a game day.
Neewollah
August 31st
I'm actually pretty stoked for this one, and will do a more expansive post on it later this week. I really hope I can pull this together in time this year.
Idea is a bit Opposite Day, a bit of LiarWeen vibe.
Trick the cosmos into taking away the bad shit and giving me good shit through a ritual lying ceremony, wearing a mask of duality to further confuse the issue. Ritual ash anointing to lock things down and ensure I get the stuff I want and ward off the shit I got rid of.
Candy (obvs) but I (and anyone celebrating with me) has to ask, and the person giving it has to make a point of saying no...while forking over.
And of course, games like Never Have I Ever or Two Truths & A Lie, drinking optional. (I will...probably...drink. Just saying.)
Where's the Eighth One?
Wheel has eight Sabbats, yeah?
In the grand tradition of the Satanist/Luciferian practices I stuck with for so long, Number 8 is my Birthday.
Or yours, if you decide to try this.
I'll decide what I wanna do about Birthday when I get there. You do you, tho.
And That's The Wheel of Halloween!
So yes, some of those are closer to recognizable Sabbats. Some of them are so far off that they're not in the same neighborhood. Spoiler: the ones you don't recognize are based (very, very loosely) on Roman festivals that occur in the corresponding month.
Why Roman?
Cause they had a religious festival for everything, there's records I can squint at, and they had a strong mystery tradition that plays well with my schtick.
I am not a dedicated Rome fanby, to be clear, the empire is just very much gone, very well attested, and I can most likely swipe the shape of their shit without worrying about stepping on anyone.
And even then, I'm mixing time periods, even up to hijacking Medieval Xtian shit where and when I see fit. Cause I was baptized Catholic, and that shit is my culture to use.
Neewollah Posting Hopefully Soon! Stay Tuned!
And of course, feel free to reach out for asks, questions, and readings if ya want 'em.

In the Spirit of Halloween | Milo Manheim (Fluff)
NOTE: Happy Saturday everyone! As promised, here is the other Halloween one. I am slowly having more free time. Hoping to write more this upcoming week. Let me know if you guys have any suggestions like more smut? More fluff? More Milo? Make a zed / Wally/Ryan/Joseph?
Have a good weekend.
Y/N = Your Name
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The months of October have been crazy for Milo and me. From going to Halloween parties every Friday and Saturday to going to haunted houses and Halloween-themed escape rooms on Sundays, we were doing our best to spend as much time together as possible before he leaves to film. Since I work Monday through Friday, the weekends are when we have more time together.
Today is officially Halloween and it’s been raining all day. Milo and I had planned on dressing up and passing out candy to trick-or-treaters, but we just decided to stay in and celebrate anyway.
“Y/N?” I heard Milo’s voice coming from our bedroom.
“Yeah?” I responded from our bathroom. I always shower when I get home from work.
“Come in the kitchen when you’re done!”
I finished up my shower and got out to put on some comfortable ‘The Nightmare Before Christmas’ pajamas. I went to the kitchen when I was done. Milo was looking in our pantry for something.
“Here!” I said happily.
Milo turned around. I noticed he changed his clothes too. When I got home, he was wearing his usual t-shirt and jeans, but he changed into a cute Oogie Boogie onesie pj’s. He looks so adorable.
I giggled instantly when I saw him.
“You like my outfit?” He said as he did a quick spin showing it off.
“Yes, I do. You look cute” I told him. “So, what did you call me for exactly?”
He smiled mischievously. “I found some stuff that can make our Halloween date better”
I looked at him suspiciously. “Okay… What did you find?”
Milo went to the fridge and pulled out some stuff as I sat on one of the stools we have here. He brought them in front of me. Pillsbury pizza crust, mozzarella, pizza sauce, and my all-time favorite, Pillsbury Halloween cookies.
“Were making our pizzas?” I asked excitedly.
“Yes, BUT….” He said as he turned around and looked through our drawer. He turned back around to face me and showed me some Halloween cutouts we had.
“Oh, my goodness. This sounds like fun! Thank you, babe,” I said as I got up and walked up next to him.
“You’re welcome. I know you were a bit bummed out earlier about our plans changing.”
“I was a little bit, but with us going out a lot, I realized alone time with you and no one else around sounded amazing.”
“Agreed. Let’s not do that again next year. Except maybe the escape rooms. I liked those”
“Nerd,” I said jokingly.
“You know what. I’ll take that as a compliment because, without me, you would still be stuck there.” Milo said. We slightly laughed. “I’m going to miss moments like these,” Milo said to me as our gazes met again.
“Me too.”
“But as soon as I am done, I am coming home straight to you,” Milos said as he placed his hands on my waist and mine did the same to his. I would wrap my arms around his neck, but our height difference does not allow us to do so.
I smiled at him. “Good. I will be here waiting”
“I love you, Y/N”
“I love you, too, Milo.”
Milo leaned down and kissed me. I kissed him back. It was a quick kiss though, so we had to pull back.
“Shall we get started?” Milo asked.
“Yes! I’m getting hungry already.”
Milo began opening both cans of Pillsbury pizza crust. He laid one crust in front of me and the other in front of him. He put the Halloween cutouts he had found in front of us as well. I saw him reach for the pumpkin cut out. I picked the ghost cut out. We pressed them on our dough.
“Mine looks like a chunky pumpkin right now,” Milo said as he pointed to his pumpkin-shaped crust.
I giggled. “My ghost looks a little lopsided, but it’s okay. It makes it look spookier”
He laughed. “Oh, it’s spooky alright”
We took turns cutting our pizza into different shapes.
“These are very….” Milo said as he looked at both of our creations together. “Unique!”
“They do,” I said as we laughed.
Milo passed me the jar of pizza sauce and the mozzarella.
“I couldn’t find pepperoni here. I know you like it sometimes.”
“It’s fine. The cheese will do”
We covered our pizza crusts with sauce and mozzarella cheese. Once we were done Milo transferred them onto a baking tray. Our little figure truly looked funny. He preheated the oven while we cleaned up and washed our hands.
When the oven beeped, Milo placed the tray in the oven.
“Do you want to prepare the cookies now or after we eat?” Milo asked as he picked up the cookie packet.
“Let’s do it right now so we can watch a horror movie without having to pause.”
“Are you just saying that because you’ll be too scared to walk to the kitchen after watching half a movie?”
“Maybe...”
Milo laughed. “Okay, you big baby”
“Hey last time we watched a horror movie, you were the one who was terrified of getting up at night”
“I thought we weren’t gonna talk about that anymore…. Oops”
Milo playfully glared at me. “Meanie”
I laughed and opened the cookie package. “Which tray are we going to use for these?”
Milo went to look in our cabinets for an extra tray. “Found one!”
He brought over the tray, and we began to align the cookies in rows. Once we were done, the pizzas were done. Perfect timing.
Milo took our pizzas and put our cookies in.
“At least now we can wait for the pizzas to cool down while the cookies bake,” Milo said. “Wanna clean up here while I set up the living room?”
“Sure,” I said.
Milo nodded and left the kitchen. I began to pick up our mess in the kitchen.
By the time the timer went off for the cookies, I was done cleaning. I took out the tray and placed it next to the pizza tray.
“Babe!” I said from the kitchen. “Everything is ready. Want me to serve us?”
“Yes please!” I heard Milo respond.
I pulled out some cute Halloween-themed plates I found the other day and placed our pizzas in one and our cookies in the other. I also bought us these cute ghost cups a couple of days ago. I got those out and served us some coke.
I grabbed the plates first and walked to the living room. When I got there, it was nicely decorated. The Halloween décor we had around the house was now all over our living room but looked great. Blankets all over our couch. What I loved the most was the cute Halloween lights. Purple, orange, and red.
“No wonder you were so quiet,” I said. “Oh, Milo this looks amazing.”
Milo smiled. “Thank you. I wanted to make it extra for you.”
I walked over to the living room table and placed the plates there. “You always do.”
“Why don’t you get comfortable and pick the movie while I go get us our drinks”
“Sure. I already served them though. They’re on the counter.”
Milo went to the kitchen to grab our drinks and came back. “These are adorable. Where’d you get these?”
“Probably family dollar or dollar tree… I saw them and thought they were cute”
Milo giggled. “What movie did you pick?”
“I picked the original IT movie”
“I guess we’re spending the night in the living room tonight” Milo joked.
The rest of the night we spent it in the living room. We ate our pizzas and some cookie.
Milo cuddled me close to him. The smell of his cologne calmed me down a bit. I did find it funny how he would easily jump or yell “oh shit” when he would get scared. I think I ended up cuddling him more during the night since he got more scared than me.
Happy Halloween!! 🎃
I hope everyone's having a spooky month. I've personally fucked up by making cookies as an excuse to use pumpkin cookie cutters, then realising the batter isn't fit for making cutout cookies... I've learned how to make pumpkin spice tho
I wanna finally do the voiceover for the video today, so it'll come out in a few days if I will. 🌸
Throw the Ultimate Halloween Party: Fun for Kids and Adults Alike!
Halloween is our favorite time of year at Mimish, and for good reason! There’s no pressure to be perfect; it’s all about dressing up, indulging in sweet treats, dancing the night away, and having a blast with family and friends. Whether you’re trick-or-treating around the neighborhood, in your apartment building, or within a community, Halloween is a perfect way to connect with neighbors, share smiles, and create lasting memories. We say: Go all out and have the best Halloween ever!
Here are some of our favorite tips that we use for our own parties. Invite your kids, their friends, parents, and even extended family. Halloween parties, for us, always have an open-door policy! We host ours in our building’s common party room, and everyone is welcome to drop by throughout the day. Here’s how to throw a spook-tacular party that’s fun for all ages.
1. Costumes Are a Must
Encourage everyone—yes, even the adults—to dress up in their favorite costumes. Whether they want to go all out as their favorite movie character, a spooky ghoul, or a classic ghost, Halloween is the time to embrace creativity and fun. You’ll get a mix of superheroes, vampires, princesses, and mummies, which always adds to the festive vibe.
2. Create the Perfect Halloween Playlist
Music is the heart of every great party. For Halloween, combine upbeat pop and dance hits with some creepy, nostalgic classics. We always include:
The Monster Mash – A Halloween essential.
Songs from Beetlejuice – With a special nod to the legendary Harry Belafonte (his “Jump in the Line” is always a hit!).
Tracks from The Nightmare Before Christmas – A fun mix of whimsy and spookiness.
Thriller by Michael Jackson – Because no Halloween is complete without a group dance to this iconic song.
Throw in some current hits, and you’ve got a playlist that will have everyone dancing from dusk until the witching hour.
3. Creepy Craft Stations for Kids
Set up a few craft tables with supplies that let kids’ imaginations run wild! Some of our favorite spooky crafts include:
Bug bags with plastic creepy crawlies like spiders, snakes, and eyeballs.
Glow sticks and necklaces that are always a hit—great for both crafting and wearing while trick-or-treating.
Pumpkin painting or decorating with fun, easy-to-use stickers, googly eyes, and markers.
Kids can create their own eerie masterpieces while parents enjoy mingling, keeping the fun going for all ages.
4. Snacks & Sweets with a Spooky Twist
Food can be the highlight of a Halloween party, so have fun with it! We like to include festive treats such as:
Witch Hat Cookies and Monster Cupcakes for the kids—adorable and delicious!
Mummy Hot Dogs (pigs in a blanket wrapped to look like mummies).
Ghost-shaped pizzas with mozzarella ghost cutouts. And for the adults, take it up a notch with a:
“Bloody” Mary Station – Garnished with candied bacon, pickles, and other savory treats. It’s the perfect spooky sip for grown-ups.
For some inspiration, we love checking out Halloween menus from Martha Stewart to make the food just as festive as the decorations.
5. Game Time!
A Halloween party isn’t complete without a few games:
Pin the Hat on the Witch is a fun twist on the classic “Pin the Tail on the Donkey.”
Pumpkin Bowling using mini pumpkins and empty soda bottles wrapped in ghostly white paper.
Bobbing for Apples—an oldie but a goodie.
You can also host a costume contest with fun prizes for categories like “Most Creative,” “Funniest,” and “Spookiest” costumes!
6. Trick-or-Treating Fun
If your party falls on Halloween itself, organize a trick-or-treat walk through your neighborhood or building. It's a fun way for kids to gather candy, show off their costumes, and meet new friends. Plus, adults get to enjoy the creativity that goes into the neighborhood's decorations.
At Mimish we love creating lasting memories with our family and friends through these fun traditions. Halloween is all about having fun, sharing laughter, and making the most out of one magical night. So gather your loved ones, get dressed up, and throw a party that’s sure to be remembered!
Final Tip: Enjoy Every Moment
Whether you’re hosting or attending, the most important part of any Halloween party is to let loose and enjoy the moment. From the littlest ghouls to the grown-up monsters, Halloween is the one night of the year where everyone can embrace the fun and spooky spirit.
So, here’s to the best Halloween ever—Say Yes to New Adventures, especially the ones filled with ghosts and goblins!
Catch Me if You Candy (A Bakeshop Mystery #17) by Ellie Alexander Review
Plot
Halloween has arrived in picturesque Ashland, Oregon, and all of the ghouls and goblins have descended on Main Street for the annual parade. It’s a giant street party and Torte is right in the mix.
Jules Capshaw and her team have been baking up autumn delights and trick-or-Torte bags filled with sugar cookie cutouts, spiced cider, and mummy munch. It’s the end of the season at the Oregon Shakespeare Festival, which means that the costumes for the parade are going to be out of this world. The elaborate guises even extend to pets. The grand marshal of this year’s parade is no other than a regal pug aptly named King George. Jules is delighted to get to share the experience with Carlos and Ramiro, but things take a dark turn when she discovers a dragon slumped in front of the bakeshop.
Jules is distraught when she realizes the dragon is dead. She’s also shaken because a few days before the parade, her mother's Mahjong partner Helen discovered a warning note about a dragon in an antique game set. Jules hopes it’s just a random coincidence, but as the clues begin to unfold it becomes evident that there’s been a murder on All Hallow’s Eve. Can Juliet sift out the truth before the killer comes after her?
Discussion
The subplot with the dog community, Jax, Pippe, Terry...it definitely read like a soap opera! I enjoyed this book, especially the costumes of the different characters. Lance was fabulous as always, but what on earth was he doing with Richard?! He has a lot to answer for! I can't wait to see Jules and Carlos's adventures with Ramiro and his family.
there's this girl i remember. her name was Stacey, her hair was dyed blonde, she had blue eyes, she loved sweaters, her skin glowed, i can't remember how her face looked though, even though it's not something you can easily forget.
she loved to participate in school activities and was a cheerleader, i remember this halloween some kids and i went to her house to carve pumpkins, she and her mom were kind and gave us cookies.
I was never close to her though, nor was her friend, she was the kind of person that is so far from you in some way, you almost never see them outside school and it's hard to see them as a cardboard cutout, i wish i talked to her, i wish i went to her room, i wish we would've become friends, the friends that you lay in bed and talk quietly with while you wait for your mom to pick you up, she talks quickly and as much as she can because this means something to her.
I wish i had cried with her thinking about graduating, helped her pick a color that you think matches her best for her prom dress, the one you promise never to stop talking to, i wish i had visited at a part time job in a gas station, i wish i gave her a Christmas present to show her that i care, i wish i had seen her children and talked to her about how much they had grown at a clothing shop. I wish I was there
Ghost Surprise Cookies
These pumpkin-flavored ghost surprise cookies were quite time consuming but very fun to make. The dough recipe and sprinkled ghost concept are from originally from this Constellation inspiration blog post, but I adapted the recipe to make surprise cookies filled with mini choc chips, halloween sprinkles, and dragees and added details about the decorating process. The adapted recipe is in my google drive under "Ghost Surprise Cookies" and includes detailed instructions for decorating and assembling. I'm going to be making some changes to the recipe after actually making the cookies, notably specifying that the dough has to be chilled for at least six hours before working with it because the pumpkin puree makes it really soft, halving the royal icing amount, and eliminating the small amount of white soft peak royal icing that you keep for gluing the cookies together: black works better because it's more inconspicuous, and you have to have some black anyway. The recipe in the google drive will have the changes. NB: We used water to thin the royal icing because what I saw in the royal icing recipe I used, but I have also seen people use egg whites, and I wonder if that would work better, because the royal icing took longer to dry than I expected and was less crunchy as well.
